Hello I hope you are still assigning fursonas (if not i am so sorry).

I've got creaky bones and badly bleached hair, work in a grocery store that seems to be managed solely by people who would rather it burn down than stand another day, I walk significantly faster than everyone else I know without even meaning too, and I am tall. My only hobbies are reading and collecting images on my 100+ pinterest boards. I have no spice tolerance but I love spicy food. I habitually stay up until the wee hours of the morning for absolutely no reason, it just feels right. I love swimming so much like ouguhjf swimming is my happy place (it doesnt count as a hobby its on maslows hierarchy of needs).

my thinking is that simon saw wade's reaction to nathan's arm breaking (a very valid and normal reaction for anyone to have during a gruesome event, especially a young child) and duke's problem solving of carrying nathan to the hospital

(i have a headcanon [more of a wish lmao] that duke's troubled had activated when he was carrying nathan to the hospital, thus giving him the super strength necessary to do so...and i know simon saw that and only saw potential and his heir)

but the moment became such a stark difference like......simon watching wade react in fear and nausea, to duke taking the initivate to rescue nathan and not shy away from what happened.

so from that day on, duke was simon's heir over wade.

duke crocker is the only motherfucker that loved audrey for who she was instead of what she could do for them. nathan didn't get obsessed with her until after he realized he could feel her, and the ONLY reason brody was attracted to her at all was because she wasn't fawning over him like everyone else. audrey parker had three love interests and two of them only liked her because she's immune to the troubles

and don’t even get me started on the fucking narrative foil status of audrey and duke, which, while not always explicitly romantic, ALWAYS makes for a more interesting character interaction than "guy who is just there."

i like the three of them as a poly group, and i like nathan and duke as a pair, but nathan and audrey as a couple are shit tier compared to duke and audrey and it's actually kind of wild to me that that seems to be the unpopular opinion here.

3. What work are you most proud of (regardless of kudos/hits)?

I did answer but because I wrote so much I'll share another!

The Haunting at Hoffman Lodge - I'm really proud of this one because for so long I've wanted to write a ghost hunters au fic for Rhea, Felix and the others and I really only got one shots out. It's not finished but I am really happy for what I did write and hope I can get back it in the future!

15. What WIP are you taking into next year with you?

I did answer but I have so many wips lol, The Haunting at Hoffman's Lodge (ghost hunter au), Bound by Twin Moons (witch/werewolf au), my one smut fic that I need to write a second chapter for! I also have a plan to write a canon divergence au for Rogue One. Let's see if I can actually finish one of them lol

17. Your favorite character to write this year?

Another one I really enjoyed was Jyn Erso. She is such an intriguing character for me and I really enjoyed learning about her in Rogue One, but I still want to know more so getting the chance to write her was a blast, even though the story was very bittersweet.

18. The character that gave you the most trouble writing this year?

Duke Crocker. That man is charming, funny, witty, quick on his feet and I am not any of that lol I had to listen to him talk a lot to try and get in his head and figure out how he would respond when interacting with Paige. But I did it though and it was a lot of fun.

29. Favorite line/passage you wrote this year?

I am very proud of this passage from my fic, Treasure at Sea. Felix and Max have been captured by Captain Hawthorne (Rhea) and this is one of their interactions:

“You two seem like a feisty pair,” Captain Hawthorne chuckled, stopping in front of them again. “Maybe I’ll get my answer from one of you men.” She reached up with her rapier and removed the cloth from Max’s mouth, then moving to Felix. The rapier was cold against Felix’s skin, but a moment later it was gone and so was the cloth. “So, tell me boy,” Captain Hawthorne asked, her braid dangling between them as she leaned forward to place the rapier under Felix’s chin, lifting it up so he was looking at her. “Why were you on a ship that attacked me?” Felix was speechless. Her voice was like music and in that instant, he knew he was in love, there was nothing else to it. Everything about this was like those stories he heard from men in the pub, the grand adventures they went on. He stared up at her, mouth agape as she asked again, what were they doing there.

Resurfacing has to be one of my favourite Nuke episodes. Every moment of their interaction is gold, from the plan to arrest the person who wants to kill Duke, to the story about the tacks, to the game of counterfeit-money poker and the "there's a world of opportunity out there if only you'd get over this law and order fetish".

And not least because that is such a good inspiration for possible alternative timelines that might provide fuel for fic.

This is my latest idea on that front, which I'll have to try and turn into a proper fic some time:

It's 1983, you're Garland Wuornos, and two of Haven's prominent citizens are giving you a headache.

One is a career criminal and murder suspect who's abusing his wife and son. The other had been respectable enough until the Troubles arrived and Driscoll got his claws into him: then it wasn't long before he developed a taste for Troubled blood and became a serial killer. And though he might not be actively beating his son, his parenting is negligent at best. But it's worse even than that, because while Max Hansen might be preparing his son for life as a career criminal, Simon Crocker is raising his to kill Troubled people - and in a place like Haven, you know which is the biggest long-term threat to your town.

So when Simon dies (the case quickly closed, because the existence of any official record of what actually happened would be unfortunate) and the Crocker kid is left an orphan, you know that the best thing you can do for the safety of your town is take him in. There's another kid you'd considered adopting, but you haven't the space (or the time or energy) for two, and if you need to choose between them, you need to consider not only their wellbeing but Haven's.

You don't know what Nathan Hansen might do for this town when he's grown, but the potential of Duke Crocker to affect Haven's future is obvious.

You can only hope that if he grows up as Duke Wuornos instead, maybe you can turn that from the negative impact of his biological father to the (hopefully) positive impact of his adoptive dad.

Rupert Giles, from Buffy the Vampire Slayer. He’s a remarkably charismatic character portrayed so well by Tony Head. A stodgy librarian by day, a super-hero mentor by night, Giles is best known for tolerating a ton of teenage bullshit while genuinely trying to save the world, if everyone would just stop mooning over romances or popularity for five minutes. Bloody colonials.

Kaylee, from Firefly. She’s just so stinkin’ adorable that I cannot fail to adore her. She’s a straightforward character with a natural knack for a “man’s job” and she keeps Serenity flying long as she’s got workin’ parts, and she’s still allowed to be girly. Kaylee seems able to find the bright side in just about anything she encounters, and she’s so engaging and shiny that she adds enjoyment to any scene she pops into.

Perrin Aybara, from The Wheel of Time. I like that he’s a big burly blacksmith, yet super shy and quiet and careful. Might be a frequently used trope, but I’m always a sucker for it.He’s such a loyal friend who is slow to judge, but quick to aid. He runs with wolves like he is one himself, leads armies that follow out of love and loyalty, and cannot for the life of him manage to handle his wife’s wild side, not even a little bit.

Rocket Raccoon, from Marvel Comics and Movies. Seeing something small and fuzzy and cute be so filled with anger and sarcasm and spite gives me life. He’s got a whole lot of bravado and bad attitude to cover up some high-quality backstory pain, which shows through now and again. To me, he comes across as something broken that the team helps glue back together, and I really like that Found Family aspect.

Jake (and Oy) from Steven King’s Dark Tower Series. Jake is a fascinating character because he has a story of his own to tell while also being a significant moral test to the main character. Roland must decide between Jake, his recently acquired traveling companion, or the personal quest he’s been on for most of his life. Oy is a dog-like ‘pet’, but has a big part to play both with the group of the story and for individual characters, and is treated as another traveling companion instead of just an animal.

Vlad Taltos, from Steven Brust’s Jhereg Series. A flippant and sarcastic professional assassin in a world of myth and magic takes his telepathic animal companion on adventures! Really flippant and sarcastic adventures. Vlad’s attitudes and reactions to events that impact his life are entertaining to read, and here and there you’ll find some deep social commentary hidden within the witty banter and tough character decisions. He’s a very engaging character with plenty of faults and imperfections whose line of work can include a certain amount of dark hilarity.

Commander Sisko, from Star Trek: Deep Space Nine. He punched Q. Right in the face.

No, there’s more: While I wasn’t a big fan of the spiritual sub-plot of the show, I’m a huge fan of the rest of it, and Sisko is part of why. Watching him grow and change through the seasons, as well as how his relationships with his crew and his son develop was great for me. He had no tolerance for subtle politics, but he played them just fine. He had a knack for seeing two problems and realizing the ways in which those problems could interact to create a solution to something.

But he punched Q. Right in the face.

Q, from at least three Star Treks, plus a delightful number of books. Q is amazing. He may come off as commanding, brash, demeaning, narcissistic, demanding, and obnoxious, but hints through the TV shows and the books show that he’s, in many ways, very child-like. Partly in that he has something approaching wonder about humans and how they live, and an insatiable curiosity for how they handle various sorts of adversity, and partly in that he constantly follows you around yelling and yanking on your clothing to try and get attention because he’s Just That Insecure.

Duke Crocker, from Haven. A laid-back, responsibility-free smuggler, Duke gets very reluctantly dragged into deeper mysteries of the town, where he winds up having to, despite his criminal nature, help the police in handling the supernatural dumpster-fire that is Haven, Maine. He’s got some great lines and a witty sarcasm that I always enjoy in characters, and he’s thrown into the job of ‘hero’ without wanting to be anywhere near any of that, which helped make him a very engaging character.

Hermoine Granger, from Harry Potter. Everyone likes to see representation, so I always love it when nerdiness saves the day. Like me, she was always ready and excited for school and her studies, much to the confusion and occasional mockery of other students. Also like me, she was exceptional at applying her studies to daily life with spells and potions. Okay, maybe I lacked the spells and potions, but it was still nice to see youthful nerdery be positively displayed in a main character.

1. How many works do you have on AO3?

er, 190 apparently. Not really sure how that happened. There are a few more on the way for the AU-gust challenge :)

2. What's your total AO3 word count?

Not including the episode notes; 491,066

3. How many fandoms have you written for and what are they?

It’s actually more than I thought: the total list is 16, though almost all of my fics are for Haven. In fact I got curious enough to work it out; literally 90% of them involve Haven.

Hmmmmm well … maybe ‘Made of Aether and Held Together with Love’ (an alternative version of Dwight and Duke’s final scene). Or I like the ending to the series that begins with ‘I Could Stand To See A Little More’, and also the ending to ‘Tell Me You Meant It’, aaaannndddd the ending to ‘The Three Of Us’ which I just went to re-read and it actually made me cry because it is kind of emotional but in a happy way :)

7. Do you write crossovers? If so, what is the craziest one you've written?

Yes, I’ve got a few. Not sure about the craziest, maybe The Smuggler and The Big Bad’… Haven and Buffy ... what happens when a vampire drinks Crocker blood full of aether?

8. Do you write smut? If so, what kind?

Yesssss, mostly M/M or M/M/F, mostly Nuke or Threegulls. Almost all of it is Haven. There’s some fluffy stuff, some angsty stuff, some stuff with restraints and planned out games, some where they just jump each other, some getting-together stuff, some established-relationship stuff, some based closely on canon, some in AU settings pretty far from canon, some non-con stuff, some crossovers. I’m currently working on something involving shibari (even though I know nothing about it, so we’ll see how that goes!) Oh and a couple of things in the works for Lost Girl :)

9. Do you respond to comments, why or why not?

Yes - it’s lovely to get comments, so it just seems like the natural thing to respond.

10. Have you ever received hate on a fic?

No. Mostly due to writing in a small and friendly fandom I think :)

11. Have you ever had a fic stolen?

Someone copied and pasted some of my stuff into their fic (without any prior interaction with me). That was a pretty surreal experience reading my exact words in some stranger’s fic. 

12. Have you ever had a fic translated?

Yes!!! Amazingly yes! Into Russian!!! Still blows my mind that that happened. The original is here (explicit PWP)

13. Have you ever co-written a fic before?

Not much, a little bit with @greyhavenisback - ‘Proposal’ (fluffy Nuke fluff :)

14. What's your all time favourite ship?

Nathan/Duke

15. What's a WIP that you want to finish but don't think you ever will?

Too many. There's a Buffy/Firefly crossover that I’m kind of sad I stalled on. And a Haven/Firefly crossover that I can’t quite seem to get together, even though I know how I want it to end which is usually a fairly solid sign I’ll finish something. And my current ongoing WIP has potential plot spanning at least 27 years so that … is going to keep me busy for a while lol

16. What are your writing strengths?

Well … we’ve established I’ve written a fair amount of smut, so I guess that’s probably on the list. Most of those top-five-by-kudos are pretty smutty ones. And, idk maybe characterisation, dialogue. I think what I’m drawn to most is describing how these characters talk to each other, how they feel about each other, how they react to each other. So sometimes that’s a line of dialogue, sometimes it’s trying to describe the tone of voice or the type of smile or the way one person reaches for another, or the way their breath catches when one of those other things happens. Trying to capture an emotion and pin it down into words on a page. I think that’s a big part of what keeps me writing so hopefully I have some aptitude in it XD I’ve had some really nice comments about specific lines of dialogue being in character :)

17. What are your writing weaknesses?

Plot. Planning anything out, but specifically any detailed kind of a plot. Like I always have really vague thoughts that it would be cool to do a Haven crossover with something like White Collar or Leverage … but those intricate crimes and cons type of plot lines are really just beyond me.

18. What are your thoughts on writing dialogue in other languages in a fic?

I don’t have the language skills to do that. It’s not something I’ve come across as a reader.

19. What was the first fandom you wrote for?

Haven! I never expected to even read any fanfiction, let alone write anything. Then Duke Crocker and Nathan Wuornos buried their way into my head and here we are ;)

20. What's your favourite fic you've written?

Ooooof, I’m supposed to pick one?

OK Let’s go with Made of Aether and Held Together with Love (an alternative version of Dwight and Duke’s final scene, in 1770 words) because it tackles the one aspect of canon that I really can not get my head around why the writers did that. Like, I’m not saying everything else is perfect but I can kind of let most things go. And I can understand why they might have wanted to write Duke’s ending the way they did … but in that case, guys, you can’t also give Lizzie the ending you did. It doesn’t make any sense; pick one or the other. And there’s no attempt in the show to explain that contradiction; it just feels like they didn’t think it through, which is frustrating.

And I like how that fic worked out and how I can visualise it happening because it would have been so easy for them to actually film it like that - I can almost convince myself it actually happened on screen ;)
