What are your headcanons on each of the idols' families?

For example: I headcanon the Squid Sisters to be the daughters of that one cuttlefish idol group; with Marie being the kid of the one in blue while Callie is the kid of the one in pink.

(I'd especially would love to know your headcanons on Marina's family since there's ZERO mention of them)

My headcanons on each of the idols' families? Hmm, that's a very interesting question.

I feel like Callie and Marie's parents used to be idols themselves, and that's why they made them sing at folk singing competitions when they were kids. They probably didn't force them to do it either as Callie and Marie have a genuine passion for music and they never speak poorly about their parents. So it all worked out in the end for them. Maybe their parents were the Idols you are talking about, that is an interesting theory/headcanon.

Pearl's parents to me, probably suck and are just pompous rich assholes. Standard typical rich parents that treat their child as a toy they can put their money into and not their love. I think they might have been the reason on why Pearl decided to become a punk rocker for a bit, because she wanted to rebel and say "MAN SCREW YOU MUM AND DAD!!!!!!"

Now Marina's parents/family? I think they were just never in the picture to be honest. They just raised her to be a perfect solider and nothing more, because Octarian society is always in a state of collapse so... There's no room in their eyes to properly raise a child unfortunately...

Maybe it explains why Marina becomes so in love with Pearl, because she's the only person in her life who has given her any sort of love and respect.... No wonder she fucking freaks out when Pearl even remotely suggestions Off the Hook breaking apart in the Final Fest dialogue.... I'm gonna leave it there before i start feeling sad for my girl Marina.

ANYWAYS! Shiver's parents/family

I feel like they are the very distant and cold type of parents. They probably didn't treat her all that warmly and they disciplined her a lot so that she can become a powerful shark tamer. I don't Shiver's parents were physically abusing her or anything, i think they were just being VERY strict with her and not being the most lovey dovey parents out there you know?

It might explain why Shiver calls herself cold blooded but she still desperately wants to hang out with her high school buddies Frye and Big Man.... She didn't get that warm attention she needed as a kid and now seeks it badly as an adult....

I headcanon Shiver as a lonely person who struggles with loneliness and doesn't know how to properly show her love to others. She tried to set up a hang out plan for FrostyFest as shown by the dialogue but... it didn't pan out as she wanted... It probably destroyed her...

Damn... I'm getting real sad with these huh? HAHAHA! Okay, no more sad shit.

Frye's family is probably amazing and quite large. I can imagine get-togethers to be humongous and Frye loves to see her family. She has such a strong connection to her siblings and i bet her parents too. Frye probably has the best relationship with her family out of any of the 7 Idols.

I mean look at this joyful little fella, she must have had great parents to make her end up into becoming this happy little gal.

Big Man? I'm gonna be honest, i got nothing for him...

He's my least favourite Idol and i genuinely don't care enough about him to come up with headcanons. I'm so sorry Big Man fans. He aint a pretty cephalopod woman so i don't care (I'm joking.)

okay now into the actual hcs lol.

(little note: this includes all of members of the sanford family alive during the rebellion, not the 75th. amethyst lives through the 75th, but does not live to see the rebellion. just a btw so no one gets confused!)

brilliant sanford —

brill and marvel were not close. he always agreed with what his mother said about training and marvel never felt safe talking to him.

that said, he was affected when he died. after all, marvel was his son. he had raised him.

but brill had never second guessed the system he grew up within (“kiss the capitol’s ass or die” basically). he didn't magically start thinking the games were immoral. his brother had died in the games and he still didn’t think the games were horrible and unjust. his son being killed did not make him have a sudden change in perspective.

brill basically had a whole “there will be no talk of treason under my roof” talk with his wife and daughter and pearl was like “your roof? this is my house”. so yeah, lots of fighting and arguments over meals in the Sanford’s home during the period after the 74th games ending to the victory tour.

he doesn't side with the rebels during the rebellion. he doesn’t side with the capitol loyalists either, though, which is bigger than him just siding with the rebels honestly. the sanfords were big capitol supporters during the Dark Days. brill had grown up learning about it. he knew what was expected of him. he just didn’t do it.

he never publicly sided with either side, but brill gave his life to save his wife and daughter from a capitol bomb. in a way, that was him choosing his side. and it wasn’t the capitol.

bonus hc for brilliant: he used to watch his brother’s games. not the actual games, but the interviews and the clips of the reapings. he can’t bring himself to watch the actual games. he never has. amethyst convinced the capitol officials wanting brill’s opinions on his brother that brill was deathly ill. in truth, it wasn’t all that far off; he refused to go out anywhere and was bedridden for weeks. maybe he did have some rebellious thoughts during that time. he never admitted to them.

pearl nelson —

pearl nelson has been pissed for years. her son’s death is really just the final straw for her.

she doesn’t speak to amethyst for months after it. if she has to, she tells brill to tell amethyst for her. brill finds it ridiculous but pearl looks about one ill timed comment away from killing someone, so he does it anyway.

important member in the rebellion in One, especially relating to the civilian aspect of it. she has been smuggling information and rebel plans since the late 40s, when she was still a teenager.

she’s less active in the public speaking and publishing aspect of panem’s history restoration but she does occasionally speak out, usually anytime anyone even tries to say something bad about her dad.

she never expected to live to see a free panem. she had hoped, but hoping and experiencing it are two very different things. there’s quite a lot more healing and therapy than she had expected too.

she starts a tiny garden off of her house after the war, since her first one had been bombed. the tiny garden quickly grows much, much larger as more people move and relocate and add plants and flowers and trees to the garden as they go. after pearl passes away, the garden is renamed to “Nelson Park” and each bench in the park has a plaque honoring a war hero during the rebellion. the fountain in the middle of the park is surrounded by twelve plaques for each victor from One.

bonus hc for pearl: she’s the only one of the sanford extended family to never go to the Academy. argent refused to send her, and pearl never showed any interest in winning the hunger games either.

paris sanford —

she had to go on the run after the 75th for obvious reasons (she had known about the rebel plan and had been involved in it as one of One’s mentors).

she also had to smuggle herself on a train out of the capitol by hiding in a fruit crate to Six and running into the freezing cold forest directly off of the district. everyone’s convinced she’s dead. she’s not.

she knows peacekeepers are on her trail and has to hide her footsteps and never stay in the same place for more than a few hours at most. she sometimes ventures back into Six and hides in bars on the edge of the border just to throw them off. it’s also a good way of figuring out what’s going on with the rebellion. it’s how she figures out who is in Thirteen and who is in capitol custody.

it’s also how she meets delta lincoln, the mother of james lincoln, Six’s first victor. she’s in her seventies now, but she helps the rebellion in anyway she can. through her, paris is able to continue helping the rebellion from afar.

she’s one of my favorites and i always like to imagine she’s one of the few Coin didn’t calculate in the victor’s purge (or deliberately left out) and she did survive. but that’s just my opinion lol.

bonus hc for paris: she was never supposed to go into the games. paris was amazing in all subjects at the Academy except for any kind of combat. she excelled in educational classes; sword fighting… not so much. because of this, she was supposed to be drawn out after she turned fifteen. it didn’t work out, as paris was reaped, by “coincidence”, and One’s designated volunteer that year got the memo that she wasn’t supposed to volunteer for paris. no one expected her to come back, and yet.

harrison sanford —

harrison never agreed with sending marvel to the Academy early. he genuinely fought amethyst on it, but amy is about as movable as mount everest when she sets her mind on something. unfortunately for both of them, harrison would rather die than back down from anyone. they have a lot of arguments.

harrison sides with the rebels. he’s executed by peacekeepers in One’s square. his last words were as follows: “i know what side my grandson would have been on. it’s not the capitol’s.”

bonus hc for harrison: his wife’s name was arabela alderidge. she passed away during the 60s (lot of victors from One were dying in the 60s ngl lol).

sapphire sanford —

after pearl, sapphire is probably the closest to punching someone in the face if they say one more thing about her brother.

she refuses to go to the Academy after his death. paris starts homeschooling her (since a sanford going to public school would probably cause deaths in One).

sapphire and marvel were close. like really close. their large age differences just made sapphire think that her brother was the coolest person to ever exist when she was younger and that admiration never really went away, especially because she never went through the bitchy teenager phase with him.

paris had to go on the run after the 75th, so pearl and sapphire held the rebellion in One strong with the miners and various rebellious nobles.

she survives the rebellion along with her mother. she never stops talking about marvel during the rebuilding process and after that. she makes sure that no one in the entire country of panem will ever forget the name of the boy they killed. she talks about what he was like on talk shows and writes books and articles about what growing up being taught how honorable going into the hunger games was and how that affected her in the long run.

bonus hc for sapphire: she’s the only biological sanford born during the hunger games era who didn’t complete the test at the Academy at twelve since she wasn’t attending classes at the time.

reasons for lack of some characters:

alister sanford dies during the 46th hunger games (won by emmelyn “lyme” gray of D2). amethyst is devastated, especially because it’s the same year hermes died, but she’s one of those people that just ignores all of their pain and puts all of their energy into something else to help keep their mind off of it to the point that it’s unhealthy. in this case, it was the Academy.

bonus hc for alister: he’s one of the few career victors who has never worked or trained anyone at the academy. it isn’t his thing. never was.

amethyst hansen dies right after katniss blows up the 75th hunger games. like, literally right after. harrison went to her house to talk to her about katniss literally blowing up the arena and she’s just dead. and he’s like “damn now i need someone else to talk to.”

bonus hc for amethyst: she doesn’t mentor tributes. ever. she doesn’t have the patience needed for it. she’s much better at training them because at least than she can yell at them.

sylvia sanford dies during the fall of the 72nd (won by cassandra mcpearson of D2).

bonus hc for sylvia: zircon was her only successful tribute, and he sees her as a sort of mother figure to him. she sees him as a son after her adopted daughter died in the 50th.

I saw you are doing Gemcyt and I have headcanon about lapis jimmy

Ok so We all know about the canary curse and how Jimmy always dies first well my idea on how to transfer that into a gem au is instead of dying the most he poofs the most 

His form is very breakable so something that other gem’s would be able to power through like a very hard punch could make him retreat into his gem instantly

He would also not be able to keep his form after being stabbed like bismuth during the breakin point fight or Pearl during sword training 

His defective programming is so unnoticeable that he was in denial about it for a very long time and didn’t realize he was an off color until way later 

Sometimes the defective coding that causes his form to be so week will fail completely making him poof at a random time with out an external reason

When he reforms he becomes a shining target because it is literally a full minute of him cycling through all his many many past forms

Endermen headcanons, pt 3

The people

1. How are the different genders treated? How do they act?: the two genders are generally treated equally. This is because their deity is female, but their representative, the Dragon's Champion, is male. This causes very little gender bias, with any favor generally leaning towards females. The two genders usually don't act differently, except during courtship, when the female is more aggressive.

2. Coming of age stuff?: an Enderman comes of age between 14 and 17 years of age, when their Pearl finishes developing and they can teleport without aid. The Enderman who comes of age is celebrated and given an adult name.

3. Who's in charge? Why?: the Dragon, descendant of Ender (the First Dragon), is in charge because of Her immense strength and because of the skill required to kill Her. Her Champion is second in command because She said so.

4. Are the people human?: no, they are Endermen

5. How do they raise their children? Describe a family unit: Family units are called Hauntings. Hauntings typically have between 2 and 5 members, but Hauntings in the End can have up to 20 members. Hauntings may or may not have a mated pair, matriarch, patriarch, or both, but often include siblings and close friends. Child rearing is a group effort.

6. Pets? Livestock?: N/A

7. Describe some of the people in your tribe. How do they interact with the rest of the tribe?: The Dragon's Champion is the Dragon's second in command and the Dragon's representative to the Endermen. More often than not, the Champion is also seen as the Dragon's "mate", caring for Her and Her Egg as well as claiming the Egg as his own. The Dragonscale cloak the Champion wears can be many styles, but is always made from the hide of the current Dragon's predecessor. The strongest nweket (baby Enderman) of the generation is taken from their mother and given to the current Champion to raise as his own and to train as the next Champion. There is only ever one Champion and Champion-in-training (called a Nwegurd, meaning "new guard") at a time. The Nwegurd is the Champion for the youngest generation currently living. The Nwegurd is given a name ending in "-gurd", and once they become Champion, they are given a name ending in "-cant" (meaning "champion"). The Nwegurd only becomes Champion when the old Champion dies. Being chosen as Nwegurd is a great honor -- and a greater curse. The Champion and Nwegurd have the respect of all Endermen, but can never gave a true Haunting. They cannot take on a mate or produce children of their own blood. The most responsibilities are expected of them, including making sure the Dragon and the other Endermen have eaten before you can even start your own meal, putting yourself forward as the first line of defense, and executing Endermen that rebel against the Dragon. The Champion often takes on more Draconic features the longer they are Champion. These effects stem from merely being in the Dragon's presence for so long. These "gifts" include scales, horns, a Dragon tail (rarely), and Dragon wings (rarely). When a Nwegurd is chosen, they are brought before the Dragon for their first gift: the Dragon language.

my Kotlc main crew as human ethnicity headcanons (so it helps me visualise what they’re wearing) (and it’d be a lot cooler if the elves had a richer culture than just Western Europe and Britain whatever):

In this post: Sophie, Fitz, Biana, Keefe

Sophie: she’s very much American, girl was born and raised on the west coast and grew up with surfer culture. But, I do think that the Ruewens would have Great British roots (for Edaline) and possibly South African (for Grady, although idk if it’s Dutch, English or whatever).

Despite the American heritage, Soph incorporates as much human culture as she can in her outfits (in the later books) and ends up looking like a mix of Taylor Momson and Avril Lavigne(age appropriate outfits, please), a bit of 2000s surfer influence (salty hair, t-shirt style rash shirts, stickers all over her board, etc.) but usually does so when at home. It does get kind of hard when there’s so many ruffles and lace and gems on her clothes but she likes to ‘up-cycle’ them aka hack at them with scissors.

At formal occasions, she wears the most moveable Elvin clothes (which would be closer linked to the regency era since the dresses seem the most ‘juvenile’, not really looking for that word, but they aren’t too flashy either). The gloves that she has to wear for her enhancing are better blended in since it goes with the style. Think Bridgeton because although the costumes weren’t 100% historically accurate, they do get creative with the patterns and seem more fun for teens to wear (Emma too, not the costume critique but the shapes).

Biana and Fitz: I’ve already drawn desi! Biana (and have received wonderful feedback, thank u:) but I do think the south Asian fashion, especially the one linked to formal occasions, truly fit the Vackers. I will admit that I do not know nearly enough about south Asian dress and the significance but if there are any aspects that hold cultural significance that I shouldn’t use, I’ll gladly change whatever needs to be change in my very loose idea of it.

With all the layering and excess of gold and rich materials, it screams royalty, which is essentially what the Vackers are in the Elvin world. Plus, in L*ura’s artwork, they’re wearing just that although just from a different culture? Idk what era or country it’s based off of, it could very well be intentional since elves…. But with tiktok, I’ve seen many people style their traditional skirts, tops and saris to make a more contemporary silhouette that works better for everyday like and it’d be fun to imagine that Fitz and Biana do that as well.

On top of that, all the accessories would chime as they walk: bringing attention to the high status, and finding Della and Biana when invisible. They would probably tone it down for school since everyone has uniforms but play around with accessories or wear a sari instead of a cape. For formal occasions, these guys look like gods. Decked out in the finest fabrics, gold and turning heads. I’d like to believe that they have their initials embroidered onto their clothing and some ‘fans’ like to collect whatever items they’ve forgotten as ‘rare finds’. It’s pretty creepy but they could resell if for $$$. Of course, with all the pressure around being picture perfect, the two youngest Vackers would be really chill when they’re at home.

Keefe: With the art I’ve seen of Lady Gisela, I think Keefe’s family would be Eastern European as it looks like she’s wearing a kokoshnik. It also looks like she’s from medieval times but I’ll skip past that. So Slavic, which is kind of sad because Keefe with an Australian accent would’ve been very cool. Now onto the Hair™️. He’d probably be forced by his parents to wear the traditional white shirts and red embroidery when living his day to day life. Although I think Keefe would rebel, as he always does, by making his own designs with a needle and thread, turning a previously parent dominated item of clothing into his own. He’d also wear a lot of pearls (in necklaces, earrings, bracelets) since they were so prominent in the Eastern European royalty (thinking of the ball the Tsars held). If he’s doing training with Ro, he’d probably be wearing a breathable Rubakha with a military style jacket on top (if he’s not too sweaty).

He’s probably got a few fur capes for formal occasions which embroidery on them and expensive lining. And a couple of ushankas. He’s also definitely raided his mother’s closet filled with those scarves babushkas always wear and turned them into soft sculptures or stretched out to form a canvas.

Do you have any theories or headcanons on the origins of Gemkind?

A lot, though many of those are big time spoilers. Here’s a few safe ones:

- Gems in their current, finalized designs are very different from White Diamond’s original creations. For example, they did not originally have the ability to retreat into their gemstones when damaged.

- White Diamond designed a few of the first Gems, including Pearls. Yellow and Blue mostly took over when they were created, and Yellow was saddled with that responsibility in its entirety following the Crystal Gem rebellion. There have been very few brand new Gem designs since the start of Era 2.

- Anti-organic specialists such as Malachites did not exist prior to the start of Era 2. The way their powers work (think something along the lines of Spinel’s injector) suggests some form of retribution was behind their conception.

- Though every kind of Gem is an inorganic life form, a few Gems actually require organic materials in their production, such as Petrified Woods.

- The way broken Gems have something resembling a splintered consciousness was originally a flaw, but it proved too useful in combat to fix.

- Some species have actually tried to replicate the Gems’ ability to reform, to varying degrees of success.

- Though Gems have always had the ability to summon a personal weapon, it was actually Rose Quartz who “discovered” this ability and taught it to the Crystal Gems. Only veterans among Homeworld’s forces do it nowadays, as there is a stigma associated with the rebels in doing so.

Do you have any headcanons about Percy and Audrey's daughters? Oddly specific headcanon questions (if you like): what are their favorite animals, and what are the things they do that most annoy their parents?

Dad was reading his paper. Mum was buttering her toast. Lucy was delicately drinking her morning coffee. Molly sat at the table with a loud thump, the buckles of her leather jacket clanking a bit. 

"I cut my hair," Molly announced to the table. 

"I saw," her father hummed, taking a bite of toast he hadn't bothered to put jam on.

"It's nice," her mother said with a smile. "Very tall!"

"It's a mohawk."

"Mmm hmm," said Dad, not bothering to look up at it again. Molly crossed her arms. She'd hoped for more of a response than this. Lucy rolled her eyes and shook her head.

"Teddy's was taller. And blue."

"Well... Well I was considering changing the color. Everyone wants Weasley-red hair, and I'm just as ready to get rid of it. Might dye it."

"Dye it?" her father asked, finally looking over his paper. Oh he thought he was going to dictate to her that she couldn't dye her hair? Well he had another thought coming if-- "Red hair doesn't turn out all that well with a lot of different dyes, so you might want to get it done by a professional or something. Your Uncle Bill tried to dye his on his own and it turned the color of sick. If you need me to pay for it, I'm happy to, but you might want to just charm your hair instead. I'm not the best at them, but we can work on it together if you like."

"Oh why do I even BOTHER!" Molly let out, kicking the table leg. 

Her dad was looking at her with a bored expression. "Bother with what?" 

"NEVERMIND!" Molly barked, feeling every long inch of her the fool. Every time she tried to get a rise out of her dad it didn't work. The rest of the meal she pouted and picked at her food. Dad finally folded his paper, cleaned up the kitchen, grabbed his briefcase and kissed each of them on the top of their head as he always did, though he gave a laugh as he had to lean in at a funny angle to kiss Molly on the top of her heavily gelled hair. He Flooed to work, and Molly was left wanting to toss a plate at the wall. 

"What's wrong, verucca?" asked Mum, cleaning up the table.

"Maybe I should get a tattoo of a miniature donkey."

"And you're pouting about this because..."

"No matter what I do, someone in this gigantic family has done it first!"

"You know, if you're wanting to rebel, maybe you should ask your father for advice," her mother laughed. "After all, your father is the most rebellious one in the family." 

"No he's not!" Molly scoffed.

Lucy's eyebrows popped in surprise. "He kind of is!"

"How?" 

Her father abided by rules, was polite all the time, dressed like an accountant, and generally was the stuffiest person she knew.   

"Well, while everyone else in the family was getting tattoos, piercings, dressing cool, being loud, playing Quidditch and doing dangerous or fun jobs, your dad was the only one dressing unobtrusively, doing unglamorous work at the Ministry, and is a bit more--"

"Boring?"

"Reserved!" her mother said with a look that made Molly's cheeks turn red. Okay, she'd crossed the line there. "If everyone was 'the cool kid' no one would be. And your dad cuts his own path in a very colorful family."

Molly gave a sullen shrug. She didn't want to admit being wrong quite yet. 

"Well, I have to get going myself. Clean up your dishes, girls. I'll see you later today." Her Mum kissed Lucy on top of the head, then kissed Molly on her forehead, avoiding her hair. "You can probably get this mohawk look with less hair product, yes?"

"Probably..."

Her mother lightly cuffed the back of her head. "Be nice about your dad!" she called before Apparating away.

Percy gave a sigh as Audrey snuggled up to him, her curls falling across his chest. 

"Molly's really pushing the limits of my patience right now."

"Same here," Audrey laughed. "She truly is embodying a 'rebel without a cause.'"

"That she is. I don't care what she does, I just care that she's actively trying to irritate me?"

"Hmm... Maybe you should feign shock. She might float the idea of getting a miniature donkey tattoo in front of you at breakfast tomorrow."

"A tattoo? Oh horror of horrors! I've never in all my years imagined my daughter wanting to... to..."

"Desecrate her body!"

"Yes! Desecrate her body in such a devious fashion! I am shocked. SHOCKED!"

The two of them folded into one another, laughing.

"Honestly, if she came out wearing a matching pink sweater set, a hair bow and pearls, then I'd actually be shocked and appalled."

"Thank goodness she doesn't know about Umbridge then," Audrey snorted. 

"Two months until Hogwarts...  You think this 'causeless rebel' phase will pass soon?"

"If it doesn't, maybe we should send her to your Mum's for a bit. She can get all the shocked reactions she wants then."

"I'd like to enjoy some time with her before school starts," Percy frowned. "Maybe we should send her to the Burrow sooner rather than later."

Whenever her articulation is concerned, Pearl is well known for her rather precise but sometimes long-winded dialogue. She is prone to ramble whenever given the chance & hardly replies to a question or comment with a single sentence. Usually one to articulate herself almost flawlessly, Pearl can come off as haughty or patronizing from time to time -- this, however, has not always been the case. 

     Pearl’s change of speech is inevitably linked to her shift in status & occupation; beginning with her role as a servant on Homeworld, & altering drastically throughout growing more & more independent, with most of her alterations becoming evident during the GEM WAR. -- to Pearl, these changes made out of her own volition [alongside becoming a “knight”] hold immense importance. After all, they embody a break with the diamond authority & a step towards personal freedom.

DISCLAIMER: The following includes my own headcanons & ideas & should, by no means, to be perceived as canon. While my headcanons are usually rooted in canon lore & use analysis of aforesaid material, the very ideas are my own.

1) HOMEWORLD. as a default pearl in White Diamond’s service, Pearl possessed a high-pitched equally default voice, very clear but also extremely monotone & robotic, lacking any signs or traces of individuality. She usually articulated herself by using specific sentence components alongside ending or beginning aforesaid sentences with “MY DIAMOND”. As a default [lacking common configurations] her vocabulary as such was fairly limited. She rarely used pronouns to refer to herself. Instead, she spoke in allegories by using her superiors as a means to convey whatever she was supposed to convey [”My Diamond would like to see you now” instead of “I am here to pick you up” or “My Diamond enjoys dance performances” instead of “I like to dance”]. Needless to say, Pearl never truly expressed her own wishes or thoughts but indirectly stated her concerns through, again, using “her diamond” as a reference. While other pearls sometimes spoke more freely in private, Pearl never felt the wish to do so. In addition to her linguistic limitations, she also yielded to behavioural rules & regulations. -- pearls were only allowed to talk whenever spoken to, were supposed to listen to verbal & gestural commands [an example for a keyphrase being “that will be all” followed by clapping twice]. -- this usually led to Pearl developing the habit to silently stand in the background, waiting for a command or anything similar. 

    The first alteration to her common manner of articulation was made after being handed to Pink Diamond, approximately 1500 years after her emergence. Pink often asked Pearl questions & encouraged her to speak up whenever she felt the need. It took Pearl several years to actually do so. -- eventually, in an attempt to “make Pink happy” she unsolicitedly, on her own volition, suggested interstellar travel; Pink Diamond rejoiced & believed she had finally gotten through to her silent & dull “companion”. Things did not progress much further from there, however, even if Pearl started adapting by learning how to use the pronouns “I” & “me” instead of constantly expressing herself through referring to Pink as “her diamond”. 

2) LIFE ON EARTH / THE GEM WAR. partially in an attempt to further adjust to her NEW lifestyle, Pearl started speaking more freely, allowing emotions to influence her pronunciation, developing her own, personal sentence structure & melody. Whenever Rose & her travelled to Earth together, Pearl grew more confident; instead of reverting to her head-voice, Pearl focused on speaking in a lower pitch, in addition to shortening words [i.e. negations]. Still, she hardly initiated conversations, waited for commands or questions, sometimes fell back into old habits or apologized for “speaking out of turn”. However, shortly after the outbreak of the rebellion, Pearl started to ramble more frequently, laughed & learned eagerly. -- it was difficult at first & required a lot of concentration & new-found strenuousness but she managed, at least in a certain scope, eventually.

     Upon meeting other Gems, things grew more complicated & complex. At first, Pearl was usually assumed to be Rose Quartz’ personal servant & thus addressed as such. This proved to be an issue that triggered Pearl’s programming & basically erased what progress she had made so far. While she could speak more freely with Rose, the stress that other gems evoked caused her to go back into servant mode, forcing her to silence herself to prohibit any personal “slip-ups” that could have led to her revealing Rose’s & her status. -- she had never learned how to talk to any Gem aside from other pearls or diamonds, leaving her with no other choice than to relearn how to properly react & respond to people in specific social scenarios. To overcome her conditioning’s interference & personal inability to muster up the nerves to actually converse, Pearl spoke in a strictly monosyllabic manner at first. “Yes”, “No”, “Okay”, “So?” “What?”, “Go there”, “Negative”, “Positive”, etc were commonly the only words others would come to hear. -- either that or she did not say anything at all. 

     -- --. Needless to say, part of Pearl’s status as “Terrifying Renegade” came from her being perceived as mute, usually glaring at whoever happened to be in her proximity, rather letting her deeds “do the talking”. While people never truly expected a pearl to speak, it was the way she carried herself, the way she poofed / shattered enemies seemingly out of nowhere before disappearing again that struck fellow rebels & Homeworld soldiers with fear. -- instead of a soft-spoken, demure “yes, my quartz” other gems would hear gruff retorts or receive nought but a long, direct stare. -- needless to say, many perceived that as quite unnerving. 

     In truth, however, Pearl had troubles rearranging her sentences, ever afraid of "messing up”. Speaking had suddenly become a fight of its own; on the one hand, she fought her programming by not only speaking out of turn but also by using words & phrases she was not supposed to use, addressing Rose not as DIAMOND but by her NAME or as LEADER OF THE REBELLION while on the other concentrating on using the right pronunciation, taking the pitch of her voice, sentence melody & social etiquette into consideration. Most of her attempts came out languidly spoken & overcautiously phrased; Pearl had to completely remodel EVERYTHING she knew whilst constantly biting her tongue whenever the urge to be “just a pearl” arose. -- most of her learning process consisted out of observing other Gems & listening to their conversations, through reading, or having Rose teach her specific vocabulary during sword-fighting practice. Due to this, it took her quite a while overcome her emotional limitations, her fear of failure, & the ongoing inner conflict which the very situation had inevitably set free. 

3) POST WAR / SHOW-CANON. at this point in time, after approximately 1000 years, Pearl had come a long way. Her affinity to pay close attention to every spoken word led to her developing quite the pristine grammar & a low-pitched voice alongside quite a lively tone. Nowadays, she usually speaks rather formally, using little to no abbreviations unless she interacts with people she knows [such as Steven, Garnet, Rose & Amethyst]. Additionally, she has a hard time keeping her sentences brief; she rambles, & joyously so. 

     Yet despite all of her improvements & pride, most of her “lofty” & eloquent talk is deeply rooted in a certain hyper-awareness & a terrible fear of “messing up” or falling back into old patterns. Even if she has long moved past the servant phase of her life she still feels like she has to prove that she is as smart as anyone, that she is not “just a pearl” but in fact as good as any other gem. Her urge to earn validation makes itself known in various situations, often subconsciously coercing her to “show off”. -- her desire to constantly share what she knows, her patronizing manner of addressing / calling out mistakes or correcting “grammatical flaws”, her seemingly neverending ramblings; it all ties back to her past & having been confronted with her status throughout her entire life. 

     While she is quite GOOD at covering up her insecurities through partially “faked” bravado, her inferiority complex often shows whenever she is agitated or emotions get the best of her. In the worst cases, her nervousness & emotional instability makes her speak faster than she thinks, lets her stumble over her own words, has her trail off, swallow vocals & consonants or have her at a loss of words. It makes it harder for her to express what she means, pushing her into this unbearable situation of not knowing how to continue or what to say; she loses her red thread & tries to save face by fleeing the premise.  -- it is something she hates but cannot really control.

kitty has always been a hard worker, even if she can only manage to care about things in short bursts; whether it was cheerleading, student council or planning alexis’ birthday parties, she can always be counted upon to put her all into it ( at least until something else catches her eye )

she really is smarter than people give her credit for, especially herself; due to the whites’ focus on measurable intelligence, kitty doesn’t view her ability to intrinsically understand people as a form of intelligence, but. y’know. it is.

despite spending most summers of her life in the hamptons, kitty cannot swim. she’s able to get past it by wearing life jackets whenever she gets on a yacht and staying clear of the railings, but she’s got a fear of being underwater that she doesn’t plan to face any time soon

they’ve yet to discover the person kitty white can’t twist to her will, whether willingly falling under the spell of her clean white smile or being convinced in a conversation that doing her bidding is really best for everyone; it’s the one thing ( besides wealth ) that all the whites share

I headcanon that Cotton Candy Garnet also give the best compliments which make anyone's day. She is oblivious at how much she affects the others with her simple compliments!

Garnet was a ray of light in the rebels camp.

She was curious, always looking around with wide eyes for things she could do and places she could explore. Pearl, whenever she wasn’t with Rose, was running after Garnet to make sure that the Fusion didn’t get into trouble. But even when she did, it was so hard for Pearl or anyone else to get mad at her, especially when it was obvious how hard Garnet was trying to help or understand the earth.

It wouldn’t be a day at the camp if someone didn’t see Garnet with a new discovery in her hands. Whether it was a frog, something that was one of her favourite discoveries, or some other small animal. Rose found it adorable, always sitting with her as Garnet would gush about her newest friend, gently petting the creature. 

Even when she unfused, something that was getting rarer and rarer by the day, Sapphire and Ruby were favourites among the rebels. They would walk around the camp holding hands, just happy to be with each other, no matter what they were doing. Every time one saw those two sharing a soft moment between each other or whenever they saw Garnet, freshly refused and basking in the feel of it, they would think, ‘This. This is one of the things that we’re fighting for.’

But even with all of those things, it was the compliments that won Garnet the majority of her friends in the camp. The compliments were never forced or something planned to get any Gem to like her. It was always genuine, usually said with a soft and shy smile. The first time she gave one to Bismuth, the Fusion found herself caught in a tight hug and being swung back and forth as Bismuth gushed over her.

Yes, Garnet was a breath of fresh air in the rebels camp. And someone that reminded the rebels who they were fighting for.

everyone has heard of the kennedy’s. however, poppy isn’t from that part of the family. no, she has never personally been a household name, but she has had all of the responsibility of that infamous surname. 

born the youngest of three to archie and verity kennedy, poppy grew up with every luxury that could be afforded in her parent’s estate in cambridge, massachusetts. yet she never quite realize how lucky she had it.

her father was a second born son of the famous family, but her mother had been a relative no one from savannah, ga, who worked her way to a teaching position at harvard university. the two fell in love quickly despite the mild disapproval from the rest of the family.

at the age of four, her father decided to enter the world of politics. it wasn’t a shock, of course. it sort of came with the genealogy. it did mean that poppy was expected to become an american sweetheart. asking perfection from a four year old was a bit much. 

as she aged, poppy grew to resent the caricature that she’d been painted into. she knew that rebelling publicly would not be tolerated. not to mention, her grandmother was terrified any heathens in their family would fall victim to the family curse. 

instead, she became a perfect princess in the public eye, and a bit of a chaotic mess behind closed doors. she doesn’t control her impulses very effectively, and her temper is even worse when she gets provoked. 

since she could not control much of the rest of her life, poppy did become very controlling of her eating. she also spent a good deal of time flirting with men who had no business reciprocating it. then the worst happened.

pictures had been taken without knowledge or consent, and it was threatened to be spread around to tabloids. they did not paint poppy in a very good light. think lindsey lohan circa 2009. in a panic, poppy tried to clean up the mess herself. however, it was her family that made all of it go away swiftly.

eventually, her parents found it best to send her away to boarding schools. the first few didn’t work out. poppy insisted they were nightmare academies run by the worst of the worst of prejudiced assholes. her mother finally consented to letting poppy choose her own avenue for education.

that’s how poppy ended up at gallagher. she made the decision for herself to enter the world of espionage. she discovered that she had a knack for it. it was as if all her family had forced on her had made her the perfect candidate.

gallagher has given her a sense of purpose and direction. it’s helped channel some of her more chaotic tendencies, though it has exacerbated others. she debated a few majors, but finally settled on the two that would be most valuable to her unique position when she left the academy. 

♛ → personality

poppy is the neapolitan ice cream of people; full of classic flavor, but a blend of opposites. her entire life has been very hot and cold. she’s got a perfect veneer of politician princess in a set of pretty pearls, but underneath it’s a wild streak with quick snap anger. she’s clever and quick on her feet, but often doesn’t attempt to live up to her full potential. poppy can’t stand the idea of being a disappointment to her family. she wants to make them proud more than anything, and simultaneously wants everyone to think she doesn’t care at all. sometimes it feels like she’s tearing apart at the seams and fraying into nothingness. all that being said, she has a great sense of humor across the board, she’s a fiercely loyal friend, and has an insatiable zest for life. everyone knows that if they want someone who is down for an adventure, to call poppy. she’ll be there in a heartbeat, and often with literal ice cream.

♛ → headcanons

nicknames are sort of a ‘thing’ in poppy’s family. she isn’t sure why or how the name poppy came about. it certainly isn’t in reference to any of her other posh names, but she’s been called that by everyone for as long as she can remember. 

poppy’s relationship with her parents is tenuous at best, but her relationship with her siblings is as close as possible. her brother is the oldest, and her sister is the middle child. unfortunately, they both had even more responsibilities heaped on them than poppy ever had, but she would be lost without their guidance and love. 

the kennedy family has retreats a few times a year in the countryside in massachusetts. that’s where poppy first learned to love weaponry. they would hunt, shoot targets, fence, and get history lessons on their twice great grandfather’s prized collection of rare war memorabilia. 

poppy is a self-proclaimed movie expert. while she loves movies, television, and even video games. it’s movies that stole her heart at a young age. old school hollywood makes her eyes dazzle with day dreams. 

the summers she spent with her mother’s side of the family in the south were always her favorite. despite it being unbearably hot, there were far less to worry about hidden away from massachusetts. there would even be days when poppy felt completely normal. she craves that feeling, despite suspecting it will be hard to come by even as a spy.

RELATIONSHIP  HEADCANONS :  parents

I would like to pre-face this headcanon with a note that Jason’s parents love and care deeply for both Jason and their youngest Pearl and that their love is most certainly unconditional but they are human and they make mistakes, they feel emotions and have their own faults and issues

Jason also loves and cares deeply for his parents and while describing things in his perspective might allude that he doesn’t, this is not the case

DAVID  DENMAN  as  Sam Scott :  Jason’s relationship with his father is his most complicated. Sam is presented as the most prominent authority in Jason’s life and as such, Jason is almost constantly compelled to defy him due to his ODD while Sam believes that Jason’s defiance is a character flaw as opposed to a behavioral disorder which causes him to believe that Jason is at best, strong-willed and stubborn and at worst, disrespectful and insolent. Jason and Sam have periodically butted heads even before Jason’s car accident, they would often argue with Sam using disciplinary force throughout Jason’s childhood. While Sam was never violent, he had a tendency to belittle, shame and manipulate Jason into “good behavior”, which has always only been a temporary solution to Jason’s perceived “bad behavior”.

Sam is also responsible for putting unrealistically high expectations on his son’s shoulders, something that causes Jason to hold himself to impossible standards as a result. While Sam genuinely believes in his son’s ability and skill, he becomes overbearing and pressures Jason into feeling like he must be perfect in order to earn Sam’s approval and respect and has made him feel that he is only ever loved when he is better than everyone else around him.

While Sam had attempted to teach Jason how to fish, Jason quite simply did not have the attention span nor the patience for his father’s favourite hobby and their only shared experience or activity was with sports, in particular football. However as soon as Jason’s position as a Football player became a commodity, it stopped being a hobby and turned into just another thing that Jason believed he had to be perfect at. Much of Jason’s impostor syndrome is a direct cause from his unstable relationship with his father, with Jason desperately wishing to gain his father’s approval and respect while simultaneously being compelled to defy, rebel and resist anyone and anything that attempts to control him.

BRIT  MARLING  as  Beverly  Scott :  Beverly Scott is an art dealer and her work often takes her out of town, as such when she is home Beverly is usually a passive member of the family, differing to Sam who is able to spend most of his time in Angel Grove with Jason. By doing so, she often dismisses, invalidates or minimizes Jason’s struggles and feelings by giving little advice, support or comfort where it is needed and is almost solely interested in maintaining a calm and positive household to the point that when Jason and Sam argue, rather than deal with the root cause behind the arguments, attempts to brush the issues aside in favor for keeping the peace.

Because of this, Jason does not trust her to understand where he is coming from and therefore never confides in her when he is going through anything. While Beverly does not mean to be neglectful, she is, to the point that she often finds herself unable to recognize Jason’s thoughts, feelings or mannerisms and is often out of touch with his life or interests without even realizing it.

11. Hmm... I’d love to see the 1.0 versions of Smoky Quartz and Sunstone! Or a Steven/Lars fusion, just to see how pink it would be. I’m not sure about voices though? If Terry Farrell does voicework I can maybe see her as Smoky.

13. Ooh boy!

Pearl- When she was newly made on homeworld she looked up to Yellow and Blue Pearls a lot. They were the older, wiser, (comparatively) more experienced ones and she hung onto every word they said. In Blue’s case, it wasn’t much, but Yellow was really into the attention and would tell her stuff like “I went to a colony with Yellow Diamond and it wasn’t completely terraformed and it rained, which is when liquids fall out of the sky, it was terrifying” and our Pearl is quaking in her boots like wow, omg, you’re so brave for facing that. And in the present the tables have turned and she loves it.

All the Pearls get together and complain about stuff to blow off steam every so often and it usually stays lighthearted but occasionally they’ll get serious and then you maybe don’t wanna be in the room because there’s throwing things and crying and screaming all those great curse words they learned at Little Homeschool. It’s very cathartic.

She’s got some kind of impostor syndrome because of being the *Terrifying Renegade* and the kinda poster girl for the rebellion, despite not technically actually running away or anything. By the time the fake shattering happened, she’s mostly accepted that she’s really a rebel even if she’s doing it with Rose but even to the present day it’s one the things that really fucks her up. I dunno if there were other Pearls in the rebellion but she’d probably be half admiring/ half awkward around the real runaways.

Oof these are all sad... let’s say that she uses her holograms to learn stuff! When she sees someone doing something and she decides she wants to do that too then she records and plays it back later and tries to imitate what happens on the recording. Which leads to little idiosyncrasies, like she plays the violin in a particular way (I don’t know anything about violins so I can’t get specific) because the musician she copied 300 years ago or something played it just a little bit off.

Garnet- It took her too long to figure out how her future vision worked when she first started using it. Like, she’d know how to activate it and tell the difference between visions and reality, but at first didn’t actually understand that she could change the outcomes. She would see the visions and think “Hmm, there are twelve different outcomes but which one will happen? No idea, just got to wait and see.” When she realized that her actions would affect the futures she saw she was so excited. Like, wow, the coolest thing!

She only realized Rose was the reason she couldn’t ask questions after the Pink Diamond reveal. Until then, she thought it was a weird fusion thing that wasn’t anyone’s fault. It’s not that she never put it together with “No more questions, you already are the answer,” but she assumed it was some kind of subliminal thing because she was so new and confused that it just got lodged in her subconscious and stuck. Which doesn’t make much sense but hey, what else was she supposed to guess?

It is canon that her shades are prescription, but my headcanon is that Bismuth made them! Ruby was always nearsighted but never knew it until after she and Sapphire fused because Sapph brought it up once like, “Hey, why is Garnet’s eyesight so blurry?” and Ruby was like “That’s just how eyes are.” They didn’t unfuse enough for it to be worth getting Ruby her own glasses, but since it looks like they’re unfusing regularly in SUF she might get some now! Also, all three eyes have different prescriptions, with the purple (middle) one having the best vision and the blue one the weakest.

Amethyst- Her poofing most often isn’t just because she takes the most risks, it’s because of her shapeshifting skill. Her form is more ‘elastic’ than average, which may or may not be because she was overcooked, but it means she has more control over her shapeshifted form with the downside that it’s a little more fragile. She probably gets checked out by the gem equivalent of a doctor at some point and is officially told this.

Her Little Homeschool classes (other than doing whatever you want 101 and 201) are Eating Food, Advanced Eating Food, one about human socializing, one about sleeping, and one about being rude (why, when, how, and the textbook is a very long list of curse words, some of which people don’t even use anymore until gems start bringing them back) (oops)

Gems in general don’t have a sense of taste but Amethyst is so good at shapeshifting that she can make taste buds that are actually pretty functional. She doesn’t do it often, though, because the stuff she likes to eat doesn’t taste very good. It’s all about the texture for her. Like motor oil (smooth), a whole watermelon (crunchy, wet inside), charcoal (crumbles and dust gets everywhere).

General gem headcanon- Homeworld was never laidback and lovey-dovey but it was way more accepting of off-colors and other weirdos before Era 2. After the rebellion, there was a huge crackdown and things got way stricter and worse. This was part of Lapis’s culture shock when she went back briefly.

Lars’s crew (Flourite, Rhodonite, Padparascha, the Rutiles) are all Era 2. Rutiles are supposed to be painters, like wall painters, not like artist painters. They have to work with Bismuths a lot. (That last comes partially from a discussion in a discord I’m in but I really like it)

Sort of running off what I said about Ruby, it’s depressingly common for gems to have vision problems and not know about it. There’s technically a system where gems can apply to get corrective lenses issued to them but it barely gets used because there’s no vision testing otherwise so everyone goes around thinking the world is naturally blurred. 

Oh yeah, and Onion is just a normal kid. He’s not evil or scary or secretly a living plant. He’s nonverbal and has food issues and okay, he tried to bury the city in toy capsules once but like, I would have done that in elementary school if I had the chance. I just want people to stop being like “oooh what a scary terrifying nonhuman kid!!1!”

14. I love the Zoo arc because it’s the first real glimpse of non CG gem society and because I find the Zumans incredibly fascinating. Obviously, their whole thing couldn’t be more different from the Crystal Gems but like... a small group of humans living surrounded by gems, with a culture completely different than humans on Earth vs a small group of gems living surrounded by humans, with a culture completely different than gems on Homeworld. Makes you think. Or not.

Honorable mentions go to the Sardonyx arc and the Pink Diamond murder mystery.

25. I’m honestly not that big a fan of AUs. I’ve found a few I’m into (b-sides, and this one fic which you mightve written?? I’m gonna check. yep, that one 90s appalachian au where Pearl’s a wanted criminal and Rose has no boundaries) but generally not my thing. I guess I get attached to characters as they are, so it’s hard for me to keep that connection when all of a sudden they’re horse breeders in the 1200s or whatever. Sorry that sounded harsh but unfortunately it’s the truth.

Aaaaaand this makes me a huge hypocrite but I have created an AU! It began when I started listening to this song, got annoyed that I couldn’t properly daydream about Pearl to it, and starting constructing an elaborate series of events that has mutated to the point where it has nothing to do with the song anymore. The short version is that at some point after the flashback portion of We Need To Talk, Pearl gives Rose an “Either Greg Leaves Or I Do” ultimatum. Rose thinks she’s joking. She’s not. Pearl then walks out of the temple, does her damnedest to make herself absolutely uncontactable, and spends the next two decades hitchhiking, fighting gem monsters, and generally screwing around (not literally). Eventually, she returns and things are more or less “Hey guys, I’m back! Where’s Rose? What’s this kid doing in the temple?” and I don’t even know what happens after that. Chaos, probably, Crying, yelling, confused baby Steven who has no idea who Pearl is. Who knows!

There’s also a Flight Rising AU but that has no plot: it is solely an excuse to draw gems as dragons, and I have barely even done that. I’ve only created mental images of gems as dragons and then not drawn them. I should get around to that
