I was thinking the other day that man, kokuto neji is such a character and I haven't liked a writer character like this since... shang qinghua?

which naturally led me to this thought: jj fic with svsss-style au where neji transmigrates/gets isekai'd into the world of havenna. as domina, of course.

it's extra fucked up imo because at least when sqh transmigrated in his book, he made up all of those characters and they mostly stayed in the realm of fantasy. like, sure, lbh was kinda based on himself in some ways and mbj was his ideal fantasy, but they still mostly stayed fictional, you know? sqq (sy) had to fix his plots because the characters sqh wrote strayed too far from their original plotlines

but theater makes a fictional world a bit too real and personal, especially when you use real people as inspirations for your writing. with neji, he'd be looking at rukiora and see three different people (mitsuki acting as rukiora; rukiora who was written based on a younger version of neji; rukiora who is her own person in this weirdly real world of havenna). neji would see fugio and to him that is both sou acting as fugio and the fugio who grew up with poison flowers. miguel is both fumi and the guy who ran away from his neshiromi fields. the only constant would probably be chicchi. she is too much like kisa in that... well. neji didn't really have a backstory for chicchi. chicchi is a blank canvas just like kisa is as an actor.

anyway. yeah, very sv-style character arc where neji, much like shen yuan in sv, is forced to humanize the villain. except this villain was his creation and is also tied to a bunch of personal issues for neji that he Doesn't Want To Think About and also he doesn't? really understand the character he wrote tbh?

isn't art supposed to process your emotions for you!! why must he process these himself!!

can you imagine neji, who always casts himself as a seer of some sort (fortune teller, ushinoko) or someone who generally has some control over his future or his "creation" (who is mary if not just another side of neji anyway; she's takihime redux, and takihime is also. neji). imagine this dude being transported inside the play he wrote but he doesn't understand it and he has no control over it and everyone's acting both in character and out of character. he both knows and doesn't know these people. they're fictional but also... real? does he treat them as real people? is domina real? he wanted his actors to imbue parts of themselves into his characters. are these people really just characters from a script? are they his quartz classmates? is he allowed to even hope that that's the case?

it's both THE improv exercise of his dreams and also. a nightmare

the nice thing about living at work being offline for chunks at a time is the people u used to really dislike seeing on the dash (by no one's fault, promise), it doesn't really bother you anymore when you see them pop up as recs or smth. like. neat. lol. it's nice! it's comforting. i feel like I've def moved on from things, its liberating.

(( Since height discussion is rolling around on the dash again, and I don't just want to restate Miranda's exact dimensions ( and yes, I'm still thinking about her new weight as I try to figure that out for the redesign since it's years old ), I'll share one of my creature design opinions.

I actually strongly dislike designs that are "too big".

Partially this is because I just really hate the kindergarten mentality that plagues monster and creature discussions, that bigger is always cooler and better, and being the biggest must mean that it's the absolute best. It's childish, it's overly simplistic, it's entirely unrealistic, I'm sick of it. People want to use bigness as shorthand for better and they offer nothing else to support that, just alluding to the ideas that they want to play with instead of understanding what actually gives them the impact they want. At the very worst, it makes the designs seem "floaty" and detached from reality in a very, very bad way.

But primarily? I like big designs that you actually have a context for. An animal the size of a building isn't something anyone is going to encounter, not on land, and it means nothing to me for that. But a design that sits comfortably within the range of other extant animals? That's much easier to understand and to put into context of your own body and how things exist around them. Using restraint makes these things hit all the harder for me, because it helps give them weight, helps you compare your everyday environment to the dimensions of the design, helps you understand every single way them and the way they move interacts with their environment and the people around them.

Bear skulls are smaller than you think. So are elk and bison skulls. So are lion skulls. But they are always much, much larger when that same space is taken up by a living animal that could actually hurt you, that you have examples of animal attacks that you can pull up for exact reference on what they can do, that you might have to actually stand next to something that is both so much smaller than you expected and so much larger. And I think that works far, far better in character designs than just borrowing from the first big animal you see.

Hmmmm. Kinda, sorta, really bummed to see confirmation that Goro is DLC in P5T. Not unexpected (because why would they actually give him anything) but still extremely disheartening. I genuinely can't tell if it's just because they actually don't give a shit about him or if it's because they know he's popular so thrusting him into DLC hell means more money for them, or perhaps it's some combination of both. But I'm just....really tired. Either way I'm a dumbass and will buy the game because I am genuinely curious and would like to experience it for myself. I'm also an even bigger dumbass because I will gladly beg for any crumbs they can give us of Goro (as long as they don't destroy his character). Still, I just feel really drained after the last few days since the leak happened. Between people taking advantage to come out of the woodwork and harass/hate on Goro to the people that enjoy him and the fact that Atlus constantly treats Goro as if he doesn't exist half the time I'm so damn exhausted.

While I do have show verses I will be TAILORING THEM basically au versions of the show bc Rand - is just...Rand won't be the Rand you see in the show. The Dragon is not the friends that you made along the way and Rand also didn't fck off to Cairhien to work in a mental health facility. He is v much Channeling and grappling with his own sanity at this time and he did fight his own battles. He also wasn't all HELP ME PLS to a fckn Forsaken. Just so show watchers know. It's a show verse but an AU show verse. ahem. He also cannot be shielded by ONE aes sedai and he isn't just a plot device for everyone else.
