18: Share an unusual headcanon.

HMMMM I've been blanking on this one. Not sure exactly how unusual these are.

Fingon has, more or less, two modes--"sure, whatever you say" and "stubborn as fuck." Maedhros is a total control freak much prefers the former mode, haha. Usually Fingon (who is quite used to navigating around control freaks--see. Fingolfin & Turgon) plays into this, and will go along with Maedhros' tendencies to commandeer a situation. Until a certain point, when he'll just quietly break off and do his own thing -- no warning. He doesn't want to a fight (the fact that the fight will happen anyways must be pointed out here). That communication breakdown is one of the sources of conflict in the relationship.

HMMM another unusual headcanon--I definitely favor a Fingon that dabbles occasionally in pretty femme presentation. Not something anyone really politically wants to advertise for him, though, considering Noldor gender biases.

24: What’s a Russingon AU you often daydream about?

8. Which character(s) do you find easiest to write?

i don't find Doffy or Smoker to be particularly difficult? once i outlined each story and determined their motivations, it's been easy enough to keep them on track in terms of characterization and development (though i was intimidated by doffy early on)

also Brook in The HΩuse on Rumbar Boulevard has been a joy to write, he's a breeze and SO MUCH FUN

9. Which character(s) do you find most difficult to write?

i've been poking at a Marco (One Piece) fic and tbh he's tough, it's hard to nail his demeanor and speaking voice (i refuse to add 'yoi' all over the damn place when writing in english LMAO)

also Kurama (YYH), but not because i personally have trouble writing him per se...i just have a very specific characterization of him in mind and it's pissed people off before (like bro people are SO PRECIOUS ABOUT HIM!??? wtfffff)...i have felt self-conscious about my plans for him in The Sight Unseen as a result...also the OC i've paired with him isn't the fandom's normal OC archetype for a kurama fic and i've gotten the rudest fucking comments about it saying Rei is not "special enough" for him LMAOOOOOOOOOOOOO.........it's wild what people find acceptable for this fictional blorbo (like they think they can somehow dictate which OCs are 'allowed' or not) but you do you booboo, live your truth, LMAO

i've been posting lately about The Art of Queen Sacrifice, my upcoming Doffy/OC fic...it takes place in an AU setting that's more in line with a historical pirate setting, with no Devil Fruit powers, and i'm really eager to show it to you all....OBLIGATORY MOODBOARD REPOST:

i also have a ton of OCCULT PIECE stories to share...i have fics planned for Marco, Katakuri, Shanks, Mihawk, Pedro, Crocodile, Buggy, Sabo, and many more...i just love exploring the lore of that gigantic AU, and every story is a new opportunity to map out new connections and the history of the modern, urban fantasy AU setting

19. Do you prefer canon-compliant, AUs, or something in-between?

it's one or the other and NO in-between at all

i love writing canon compliant shit...There's Fire and The Grasp of Gilded Strings are both as canon compliant as they can be considering One Piece is unfinished, and i designed both stories to fit seamlessly with canon without disrupting it...i want them to read as additional side-stories that complement the canon, and for both of them, i'm achieved that (though of course future Smoker or Doffy developments during or post-Egghead, which is where we are now in canon, could derail my plans)

tbh, setting things post-canon for complete series is my overall preference when remaining canon compliant...canon can never "unmake" anything i write when the series is complete, and i used to write exclusively for completed series before falling in love with One Piece

on the opposite side of the spectrum, OCCULT PIECE is a clear indicator of how much i love completely AU settings...i love making my own playground within the bounds of fandom <3

i don't write pairings of canon characters, so OC/CC is my preferred pairing to write (and read)

the entire OCCULT PIECE world is alive in my head and i daydream about it constantly...i think Sanji is at work in the Baratie restaurant in the OCCULT PIECE world and he occasionally serves meals to the couples in the OccP universe, so it's funny to think about him serving Zoro and the Witch on a date

i think about Rei and Kurama going dancing a lot...also i headcanon that she's the OC in The Hunt sometimes, and if that story is their married life, i can't help but think about what she and Kurama got up to on their honeymoon LMAOOOOOO...planning on writing that one down someday because it's gonna be 🔥

also i daydream the conclusions of There's Fire, Beyond the Fracture and Gilded ALL THE TIME, i've basically lived out those stories a million times already LMAO

I’m currently developing a timeline for the Norad vs Sechs war, and I was wondering if you had any fun facts about the Sechs Empire that the wikis don’t mention or headcanons you’d like to share. I’ve got a lot of ideas already, but I love using other people’s toys in my sandbox when I can!

Ah, I'm flattered you asked! Honestly, I might not have much useful info, because so much of what I do is vibes-based, and I kind of keep things vague on purpose because I'm paranoid about accidentally contradicting some bit of canon lore I missed.

BUT!

-Even as far back as the RF1 era, I imagine the Empire as being more roughly "20th century" than Norad. I've touched on this in my fics, with the references to things like large hospitals and universities being much more commonplace than they are in Norad. I've also made references to them having more modern medicine; Edward has placed IVs and Terry has gotten one, more surgical technologies, etc. One thing I haven't referenced because it just hasn't come up is that I think they have radio! (At least by Terry's time, probably not in Edward's.)

-I've mentioned this before, and it's kind of building on the last thing... But yeah, I do choose to believe they have weird magitech cyborgs! (Which is just making me think of FMA, and yeah, that technology level/mix is about right. Plus an almost cyberpunk style of dense urbanism, but with a more fantasy-tinged aesthetic.)

-I remember you mentioning that the LGBT community is more underground in the Empire, and that's actually a minor plot point in one of my fics! (Sorry for being vague, people who've read it know what I'm talking about, and I don't want to spoil anyone who hasn't because it's a big part of the lore I came up with for a character even though it's small overall.)

-Terry's distinctive speech patterns are probably at least partly regional! But pretty specific to the particular time and place where he grew up, since Edward doesn't speak similarly.

🍄 Share a head canon for one of your favourite ships or pairings? Okay bear with me because my headcanons are a bit silly

This is so specific and only applies to my Urban Fantasy Monster AU, and the pair is for Werewolf Broganes. I stand by my headcanon that Keith will shift into wolf form and demand rubs, cuddles, and anything he wants by using his puppy eyes to his full advantage.

Shiro is simultaneously the only one who can resist, and the one most likely to succumb to the puppy eyes. Shiro's puppy eyes aren't the bets, but he can SMILE and look like such a happy gigantic werewolf.

Ozai (and Iroh) AUs

Since I've started writing in them both on here but never formally wrote up information about them, here we go.

First off, in general, Ozai tends to be a little younger in these verses. He's around 40 at the start of ATLA and usually in his early 30s in these verses. Why? Because I find it a more interesting area for development, that's all. He and Ursa are in a tumultuous but mostly stable marriage, Zuko and Azula are rather young and repeating much of the strife Iroh and Ozai themselves have. Usually Lu Ten is already dead but Ozai hasn't (yet) made an attack on his father to claim the throne nor has he scarred and banished zuko (yet).

It makes sense to have Zuko older when Zuko is the main muse, but Zuko isn't my muse and so I shift the narrative a bit earlier to put more focus on my muses.

There's still a 15 year gap between him and Iroh, putting Iroh around his mid-late 40s. Iroh can, and has, been mistaken for Ozai's father, much to the former's amusement and the latter's annoyance.

Most of these AUs feature similar, but milder, events compared to canon. This is also to facilitate Ozai's growth and allow him to develop in ways that were never an option in canon.

He's still a dick, though.

That, and, to make him easier to interact with, as engaging with him in canon is virtually impossible unless you're Zuko, Iroh, or Azula.

He's still a firebender or equivalent in all verses unless explicitly noted.

Modern AU

Azulon serves as the current CEO of Ember Strokes (畫的餘燼) with his sons serving close behind him. Whether this is literal or metaphorical depends on which son you're referring to, as Ozai tends to literally be right behind Azulon in all things he does, while Iroh tends to be halfway across the world, promoting the company as a loveable and relatable figure.

The history of Ember Strokes is unclear, but the most prominent figure was Sozin, who rocketed the company from being a small and mostly local business to country-wide and then international fame. A lot of the history prior to Sozin taking over the company has been lost, and neither Azulon nor Ozai feel inclined to dig deeper into it.

(Iroh may, yes, but not quite yet.)

Nonetheless, the accepted history of the company is that it started in artwork, traced back to a singular artist who used fire to create strange and unique pieces covering a wide variety of topics. Unfortunately, that original technique has been lost, but Ember Strokes still deals heavily in art and the surrounding areas, such as clothing, furniture, jewelry, and others.

The company puts an emphasis on cultural heritage and respecting history, focusing heavily on traditional pieces and techniques that capture the beauty of nature and yes, fire.

Keeping up appearances is important to them, so much so that Azulon and Ozai regularly wear traditional robes and a vast majority of their primary residence doesn't even have electricity, instead relying on fire and the sun and only using technology when strictly necessary.

Azulon's relationship to Ozai and Iroh is arguably more twisted in this verse; as Iroh grew into a teenager, Azulon began to fear that he'd lose control of the boy or that he'd choose to abandon Ember Strokes and leave them without an heir, and so he had Ozai, making sure to have a stronger hold over the boy.

Ozai is oblivious to any other possibilities--as far as he's considered, his life belongs to his father and the company and he's blind to the unhealthy degree of control Azulon has over him, even well into adulthood.

Ozai's hatred of Iroh developed on its own, however; while it's true that Azulon holds some favoritism towards his firstborn, it's not nearly as extreme as Ozai believes it to be. It's simply that the two have different uses and strengths and Azulon puts them to use as efficiently as possible.

He does, essentially, intend for Iroh to be the face of the company while Ozai handles the financial business in the background. In an ideal world, they'd work together well, balancing each other's flaws, but Ozai hates Iroh too much for it to ever work out. He'd much rather Iroh not have a part in the company at all.

As for the children...Lu Ten sadly passed away in an vehicle accident about a year ago. As well as Iroh is holding together, he's still heavy in his grief and noticeably different.

Zuko and Azula are mostly left to their own devices, usually watched by some sort of tutor, babysitter, or servant as Ozai is extremely busy and hardly ever spends time with them, except for the occasional family dinner or sparring.

Ozai finds Zuko far too soft for the business and has no intention of training him to take it over or even letting him be a part of it. Kicking the boy out is unnecessary, but Ozai doesn't think he has any value there. Azula, of course, is the one he's training to support him and one day take over the company.

Although the company is mostly legal...there is some underground shenanigans going on, mostly on Azulon's level that he hasn't yet revealed to the brothers. The arrangement that lead to Ursa's marriage to Ozai was one of them.

Urban Fantasy AU

Much the same as the above, except the family's rule over fire is well known and respected among human mages.

Kings and Knights (Fantasy) AU

Ozai is one of two princes of Lóngdǎo (龍島), an intensely volcanic region. The kingdom is highly aggressive and there's a general belief that the world would be better under their control.

Much like the other AUs, Ozai has not yet seized control of the kingdom and is trying to prove himself a superior heir to Iroh.

Particularly, he's interested in killing a dragon, an extremely respectable and honorable feat to his people...and something his brother has already done. (Or at least has claimed to do.)

Headcanon / Notes of my muse portrayal of the CC kids following HoFas

So not a ton is going to change; aside from the fact none of them have titles. They're still the same idiots all sharing one brain cell. Just now they're idiots who were born and remained full powered. LOOK OUT WORLD.

Lidia and Ruhn are clearly still in the Aux. As are Dec and Flynn and Hunt.

Bryce is running the antique shop where Dani and Seren probably hang out a whole lot. Naevia too. Giving Bryce this sweet feeling of nostalgia.

Someone needs to bring me a grown Bran and Ace. As they have about 16 years on their little sister. Which I think gives them a relationship a lot like Bryce and Ruhn once had -- without the years of tension and separation.

Let's just all assume they found a way to preserve the first light. Either by collab-ing with the Ocean Queen or instituting a tax system along with this new government. Cause a lot of the fun of Crescent City is that it's an Urban/Modern fantasy with magic AND tech.

Family vacations to Avallen to see the ponies!

Also I kind of really want to add a Tharion/Sathia and Ithan/Perry kiddo to the mix. We need to keep the LARGE GROUP OF IDIOTS theme going.

Just bring me more kiddos in general.

Adrian and Maddox are most likely no longer training to be bodyguards as the titles are gone but they are training to be Aux and so there is SOME expectation they'll stop the stupid shit. They never do.

So yeah...the biggest thing that would change would be the idea of the Drop. So obvs the whole thing with Seren and the Drop will be cut out but I think "Drop Parties" might still be a thing. But instead of being tied to an actual drop they've become the Vanir version of a Sweet Sixteen almost. Held when a Vanir reaches 18/19.

What’s something new that you tried in a fic this year? How did it turn out and would you do it again?

And What Came Next is barely a "fic" - there is no plot arc and maybe 5% of a character arc. It's just some scenes of varying degrees of completeness connected by what's basically just written-out headcanon, mostly fluffy, post-"canon" for my Silmarillion OC Celechwes and her family, including OC children. It's the sort of thing that usually just lives in my head and in random chats with friends. But so many people have been so eagerly supportive of Celechwes and her story, and I've been trying to lean into AO3 as an archive not just for truly polished fanworks but all fannish creations I want to save - with the guideline that if I would want to read this stuff from someone else, the collected headcanons and bullet-point fics, shouldn't I share my own? So I posted it and lo, people liked it! They exclaimed excitedly in the comments!

Moral of the story: if you're worried that what you're posting is too self-indulgent and incomplete, it's not. There is no such thing. Admittedly it helps that I'd already spent about 65k establishing the relevant characters in a fic that did have plot and character arcs.

4. What piece of media inspired you the most?

Well, obviously I was still on this Silmarillion kick for most of the year... (It's fading now, but I have some really good WIPs that I'm determined to finish.)

Ooh but my favorite new books of the year were the Heartstrikers series by Rachel Aaron! Urban fantasy ft. internecine draconic family politics, vengeful nature spirits and genii locorum, aggressively offered and maintained friendship as a problem-solving method, manipulative seers as another problem-solving method, ghost cats (and armies of undead) as yet a third option, a couple apocalypses, pest control, compelling characters with opposing agendas and vivid worldbuilding and all that good stuff! I want to reread them and then maybe write a next-gen story.

My favorite little thing I wrote is this of Maedhros returning to what once was Himring.

18. What was the hardest fic to title?

Oh, god. "And What Comes Next" is so hopelessly generic, which I guess is appropriate given its content. I'm not really satisfied with "The Struggle of Squeamishness" (S&D Tier). "Magic Traps" was hard specifically because the whole Kate Daniels series has titles in this very specific form - Magic Binds, Magic Bleeds, Magic Triumphs, etc - and I wanted to follow it, but all the best words were already used.

26. If you had to choose one, what was THE most satisfying writing moment of your year?

I worked really hard and for nearly a year, in bits and pieces, on The Minstrel and the Star, trying to capture this very messily nuanced but intense relationship, including an air of worship that I really don't normally go in for, and I'm still not sure I managed to express it exactly as I envision it... But one reviewer described it as "Numinous as well as luminous", which is so exactly what I intended that I must have done something right.

27. Did you do anything special to celebrate finishing a fic?

Er, usually I go to bed. Bedtime is the #1 effective deadline for me to grit my teeth and figure out how to write the last few lines of any given fic. Write sleep-deprived, edit sober, as they say.

Leuke Island

Sometimes when you are researching you end up going off the beaten path. This is one of the reasons I love urban fantasy games - the real world is filled with history, myth, and folklore, which is absolutely EVERYWHERE once you start to see it. 

While researching the Patreon post on Macaria, I ended up tangenting into the reading about the Blessed Isles on which the ancient Greek dead reside. Unlike the way Planescape and Pathfinder interpret all afterlives as taking place in other dimensions, the ancient Greeks believed at various points in time the Islands were physical places people could travel to (although at other times, they were also part of the Underworld proper). Those islands have been placed everywhere from Sicily, to The Canary Islands, to the Azores, to Bermuda. 

So as I’m reading the Wikipedia page on Elysium, I see a bit where Achilles has been linked with an actual island in the Black Sea. I dig this, because I’ve been researching Pontus for a different project and I feel like people underestimate how far north Hellenic culture made it in Eastern Europe. Since I’m on wikipedia, I hover over the link to get a preview of the page and since I saw the Greek name I ignore the title and go straight to the text. Sounds neat, there was a temple, it was a major religious site for Black Sea colonists, and formal worship of Achilles is not something I’ve seen a lot of (albeit, I’m not a classicist). 

Then I look at the island’s English name. And I fucking start swearing. 

You see, I knew this island. Anyone who’s paying attention to the Ukraine war probably knows this island. Its proper modern name is Zmiinyi, but in English it is often called Snake Island. 

Yeah, that’s the island where Ukrainian soldiers told a Russian warship to go fuck itself. That very same tiny little island where a bunch of Ukrainians made their stand against Russian aggression - that was once holy ground for Achilles. 

While I definitely have a headcanon about what that island is like in Scion’s World, I’m not about to gamify the conflict in Ukraine because that would be a millions different types of crass. It’s staying firmly inside my brain. But I couldn’t not share this. And I also can’t get the image of Achilles giving a Russian warship the finger out of my head.

The Tummy Date, aka Dirk & Vanessa (WIP): An experimental story of intentional kink that started out as a love letter to my favorite fic of the same name on StomachacheCafe (may it rest in peace). I love the OCs that came from it enough that I'll probably end up writing more for them. Set in the same universe as WAIC.

Wild Mountain Honey (WIP): More self-indulgent goodness centered around a bear shifter named Orson, the small mountain town he calls home, and his love interest Jia, a burnt out big city lawyer who's inexplicably attracted to Orson's big appetite. This is still in its early development stages, but the eventual goal is more or less kinky supernatural romance meets Hallmark movie. Set in the same universe as AMOM.

Kinky Blorbo Micro Manifestos

Ask me about any of these if you want exuberant infodumps and hyperspecific headcanons. Pretty much all of these have at least one back-burner plot bunny attached to them.

John Pope and Sara from Falling Skies: Pope is my blorbo to end all blorbos, the bright star on my horizon, my #1 t-kiss F/O. Sara is his kick-ass girlfriend, one of my favorite female characters ever, and someone I'm working up the courage to also make my t-kiss F/O. He's a trigger-happy berserker who's also a chef and eats more times on-camera than anyone else on the show, she's a plucky former graphic designer who asked him for Pringles at gunpoint—need I say more?

Nick Burkhardt and Sean Renard from Grimm (TV): The stars of the first kinky fanfic I ever felt brave enough to actually post online (which I will continue Someday���). I low-key ship them and Adalind in a kinky OT3. Sean x Cheesecake 4ever (based on an outtake that would've been memed in a larger fandom).

Pete Latimer and Myka Bering from Warehouse 13: This show is best known for its amazing and tragically non-canon femslash ship, Bering and Wells, but y'all, we are sleeping on Pete. He had as much kinky canon material (proportionally at least) as a certain gruff-voiced monster-hunter, right down to a signature favorite dessert, and he may have his flaws but his masculinity is a hell of a lot healthier overall. Meanwhile, Myka is a canonical stress eater with a canonical sweet tooth and a canonical best friend/partner (Pete) who's always trying to get her to relax. Pyka was queerplatonic and I will die on that hill.

Batman/Bruce Wayne and Catwoman/Selina Kyle from Batman: The Animated Series: I've had a long-time crush on TAS Batman, and tummying him is the inevitable result of that. It's practically canon that BatCat is some flavor of kinky, so Selina talking Bruce into self-care via feedism doesn't seem like much of a stretch to me. I'm also 100% down for kinky WonderBat and/or WonderBatCat.

The Leverage OT3 (Eliot Spencer, Alec Hardison, and Parker): I'm still working my way past season one, but I have already made it my life's sidequest to believably tummy these three in various ways. Eliot's a hobbyist chef in desperate need of R&R, Hardison's hacker snacking provides endless windows of opportunity, and Parker has a major sweet tooth and zero inhibitions.

Flip from Slumberland (2022): Y'all. Y'all. I am feral over this man. A goofy outlaw and reluctant father played by Jason Momoa with fangs and a clingy T-shirt who carries snacks in his pockets and spends half the movie touching his belly is illegally tailored to my interests. Also the movie was hilarious and adorable and gave me feels and you should watch it.

It’s easy to write urban magic, the accentuation of real, or adding tropes to contemporary settings.

There is the short story about a man and a woman who saw each other, once at a bodega, once at a laundromat. Neither one knew that they saw each other twice, at two different locations, they think the first time they saw the other was the only time. Their descriptions of the other are illustrating narratives that make up the first two chapters.

It has been hard to return to that story (and any of my creative outlets recently, but that one in particular is difficult), I think it’s because of two reasons.

I tend to overuse fantasy tropes in things that should stay purely real. There, naturally, as is the case when writing fiction of any sort is the suspension of disbelief. This, i think, in most respects should be a factor of analysis when writing or analyzing media.

My reason for that is because critical thinking is important when making large moral, cultural, or any other real sort of assertations on a piece of media. Fun headcanons, are just that, but anything more extreme requires a degree of discretion and grounding. Otherwise you can end up being disrespectful or bigoted towards real issues or sensitive topics that necessitate common sense and an average amount of empathy.

To be more self-reflective, however, i want my writing to be more fun than what i think my life is. Other people might enjoy or feel intense emotions on my behalf when i tell them about different parts and events in my life, they find it interesting. And i have no problem with that, i am more than willing to share, especially when it’s about something I’m passionate about. But as i was crawling into bed tonight, i was thinking about another short story i want to write, possible characters and scenes. One could be autobiographical. Which brought up the question: who would i be in this story?

If someone were to write about me, the same way i write my characters, what would they say? Would I be described the way i want, would it be better or worse?

And then, as i got into my bed, with stuffed animals and a yellow bedspread, I realize how much of an aesthete image i have curated my room to be. All of my artwork, the furniture layout, how i unintentionally let all of the art have similar color palettes. All of my stuffed animals, bags, and even items that other people have bought me, all come together in the most accurate, physical representation of myself. I feel like my bedroom says more about me and i ever could. Which is really crazy to think about. Like, perhaps i need to become better at portraying my person, fantasizing myself rather than the more uncontrollable things around me.

TL//DR I gravitate towards magical elements and need to implement that in my life in the same amount this short story should receive. I don’t let myself have enough fun, there is too much flightiness.

2) A major relationship that ended this year was the one that influenced my recently finished novel. This novel was originally written as a hopeful piece. It was going to be a sad-manic pixie dream girl, trying to please herself rather than a man. But one comes along, who is more pathetic than her, they have organic relationship issues, then genuinely fall in love after healing in proximity to each other. Which is basically what happens in the novel, but is way more centric on the main, female character.

However, when i got into that relationship, i ended up using poems and other writings to add and also referenced actual moments and conversations from that relationship. I had stopped writing it at one point because i had written enough that i caught up to present day. When we broke up, i was able to come up with a solid ending because i was free, i was able to see clearly and learn from my mistakes. There is a conversation that the main girl has with her love interest and it is almost verbatim what i would say if i ever ran into my ex again. It took breaking up to evoke that sorrow, the emotional experience needed to provide a nuanced, creative outlook for the novel. There are certain characters who are stand ins for people or concepts i wished to convey. I want to able to do something like that with this new short story (the one described at the beginning of this and the one most recently mentioned).

There is one problem, though: i have not healed from that relationship. It was two years long and ended in February. So it has been some time, i have talked to other people, and absolutely not my ex. But in retelling and retelling all of the bad moments and doing my utmost hardest to not remember the good parts because they hurt, blocking out the worst ones because they do the same, i realize how much i need to let go.

I don’t ever have to forgive him for what he did to me, how horrible he made me feel, but i wrote a fucking novel about it already. I don’t need to keep doing it; I don’t need to do that ever again. Once was already too much, to be honest, anyway. The relationship is over. He has no hold over me. Memories can hurt, but they cant touch me ever again. I am free to heal and let new lights in. And i am more than willing to do that.

TL//DR healing from relationships is so liberating. Truly forgiving yourself for being involved or wrapped up in something so harmful for a long time, even after it ended will only make things worse. Nothing comes from remaining in the same place. Embracing who I have become is healthy. Sure a lot of interesting things to me were sparked during the relationship, to give me something to talk to him about, but i genuinely like them. That can’t harm me. He doesn’t know what i say or do, and that is good too. Healing will allow me to write something else, something pretty too.

I am happy. I needed to write this down. For clarity. For truth.

I'm super hyped for this game because I think about Modern AUs a lot for Tamlin? It's not normally my genre, but he just gets the muse flowing!

I have a couple variations of MODERN AU that I like for Tamlin! I guess they're more related to scenarios/fic ideas than Tamlin-specific headcanons, but I wanted to share anyway because I'm excited about them.

AMERICANA / HIGH SCHOOL TAMLIN: Tamlin comes from a long line of guy's guys. You know, the typical American dream. His father and his brothers were some kind of sports stars throughout their schooling, then went on to work for their father's company (which was passed down from his father, a lot of nepotism). All Tamlin wants is to take music class, join the school band and maybe take a poetry class because he really loves the arts, but he's build like a Ford F-150 so obviously, he has to be on the football team. Enter the rich kids (the IC). Everyone wants to be them, they're super popular and very cliquey. The leader of the group is the very stylish and spoiled Rhysand. This, my friends, is how we get a classic 90's high school romcom where it turns out both of them are more than what they seem, and they find honest little moments between them hidden away from the prying eyes of their classmates, their fathers and their expectations. Very soft AU.

In most of the Modern AUs, I imagine there's a lot of Tamlin forced to follow in his father's/brothers' footsteps which is always something he isn't passionate about, usually business (sometimes shady, sometimes not).

MERCENARY x RETURNING STUDENT AU / BL-INSPIRED: I don't know if this counts, but it's a self-indulgent headcanon (and fic that I'm writing for myself). It's more urban fantasy, but set in modern times. It's heavily inspired by my favourite BL manhwas. Tamlin's family died in an accident while Tamlin was in university, and shortly after his mother fell ill and into a coma. His father was rich, but dealt in shadier/criminal business, so when he died along with his would-be heirs, his rivals basically tore his company apart and now Tamlin is in a lot of debt. He worked for years to pay back as much as he can, and manage his mother's bills, but now he's in a place where he can go back to school (so he can get better jobs). Moving back into a small college town, he accidentally ends up being roommates with a mercenary-in-disguise (Johan, it's Johan) who initially wants nothing to do with him. Little by little, Johan notices the way Tamlin is struggling to exist, so he helps him out and more and more until they fall in love. In this AU, Tamlin was originally pushed to take business in school because of his father, but he was very passionate about folklore, specifically Fairy folklore (he grew up listening to his mother's stories). When he returns as an adult student, he's in computer science (for the comedy) and sucks at it, which gives room for his mercenary boyfriend to help him. It's very cute. I also love Tamlin being older than all the other students and just not keeping up with the trends.

Anyway, those are my thoughts! Long story short, my kink is writing scenarios/fics where Tamlin is absolutely adored!!!
