@lostxndbroken Zulu and Dean Winchester.
The middle east coastal waters has been a dangerous place this summer with deaths happening every few days. Not shark attacks, but something more supernatural. A sea serpent from the deep, child of jormungandr the world eater from norse mythology, come to the surface feast on humans. In the same waters had been merfolk, but since the danger came they had mostly fled to safer waters. Save for one. Zulu Nightshade had never been close to his school and thus being a loner he was left behind to fend for himself.
It was nothing new. He was no fighter but he was a fast swimmer, confidant he could get away if the serpent targeted him. In the meantime the merman stayed close to shore to try and help the humans that swam from becoming seafood for this nasty creature. They seemed to have become aware of the danger and most stopped coming into the water. But there was a boat he thought was a fishing vessel, it had a big net but a human was swimming around the boat. It also smelled like blood was in the water. Was the man injured and couldn't make it onto the vessel? He had to hurry before the sea serpent was drawn to the blood. Zulu quickly swam up from the shadowy depths to help what he thought was an injured human back onto their boat.

Stone
She cost him everything. Now, he’s forced to protect her.
Stone Metcalfe embodies the Metcalfe legacy—blue eyes, an unfair amount of good looks, and hardcore patriot-laced character. But a foolish lapse in judgment dismantles his name and career. Humiliated and furious, he retreats to his mountain lodge to hide from media hounds and eke out a new life. However, one phone call from an old Army buddy upends Stone’s best-laid plans. Supermodel Brighton Buchanan had designers and men eating out of her hand until a terrible mistake trapped her in the soul-eating world of human trafficking. Years later, she is used by her captors to take down the best man she’s ever known. The man she loves. Hope lost, she’s unexpectedly freed—and thrown back into Stone’s life. Being forgiven is out of the question considering how much he hates her. Believing danger and her are one wrong move away, Brighton will do anything to keep him from being ruined again—even if it means going back to that life. As everything is falling apart and threats mount against Brighton, Stone realizes forgiveness is the easy part. Protecting her—and his heart—is another story.
MY REVIEW: 4.5/5 Stars!
So exciting getting to see more of the Metcalfe's! We got introduced to Canyon back in the Discarded Heroes series, and by extension, a brief intro to other Metcalfe's through that series. Then of course, we got Leif's story in Storm Rising. And now, we're getting the rest of the family! Overall, Stone was great. I did want to smack him for the way he was treating Brighton. Yes, what happened was bad and she did play a part in it, but at the same time, her choice wasn't as black and white as he wanted things to be. I was glad that he finally pulled his head out and listened to her. And then realized why he was as mad about things as he was. Then of course, I loved that he threw himself into trying with everything he had (loved the way he started trying to get her to understand he wasn't going to let anyone hurt her). Brighton was interesting. On the one hand, it was interesting watching her fighting to decide if she could even try to hope. I could understand her not wanting to be around Stone when he was being a butt, and that she maybe wasn't thinking too clearly, but I did have to wonder at why she thought running away was a good idea. I did like that she seemed to feel like Stone was worth the chance, so she kind of thought about sticking around. I did wish she'd managed to signal or something when Finch showed up. I did like the fact that she got Mari out of the car though. There were some grammatical/spelling errors scattered through the book that distracted me/pulled me out of things. And I will admit that I would have loved a little more on how Horvath located Brighton and everything. That part seemed to get a little glossed over; Stone got the call and then they're defending the lodge and he's acknowledging how he feels. I mean, I was glad that everything with those feelings got resolved but I did feel like the path to get there was a little foggy and could have been cleared a bit more. I loved the Zulu reference/cameo and the Nightshade cameos! Please tell me more of those are coming? I mean, since it is Canyon's team and this series is about the Metcalfe's, at the very least, the rest of Nightshade has to step in to help, right? And will we get to see how Leif and Iskra are handling life? Also maybe a throwback/cameo to Tox?

"Just fuck me already" (not sure from who xD maybe Ambrose, Lennox, Dean. Or anyone you wish for, for any of your humanoid/furries )
Just fuck me already meme {accepting}
Lounging in the shallow crystal clear waters of a hidden cove Zulu and Dean were sharing an intimate kiss under the starlight. The hunter had become so entranced by the sea beauty he had joined the merman in the water completely nude. They had swam around for a little while, then embraced and Dean had initiated the kiss that lead them to fully making out.
Fuck was not in Zulu's vocabulary but given how the human was acting it was easy to conclude what Dean wanted from him. "I don't know if we can mate, my parts are different than a human's..." The murman responded as he caressed Dean's body, down his side and hip as his eyes trailed down to the erection beneath the clear water they were in. "We can try if you really want to."

The humans had his full trust now and he allowed them to handle his body as needed to lift him up. He made sure to flatten his fins against himself so they didn't get caught on anything as he was moved and placed along the side of the boat. Zulu looked to the water and nodded but he paused to take off a piece of the jewelry he wore to give to Dean. A little broach of a sea turtle that he clipped onto the pocket of Dean's flannel.
"Come back to visit. Want to help with the monster." Zulu told him with a look of still wanting to help. At the very least he wanted to make sure that they were successful with the hunt. After this goodby the merman rolled off the side with a splashy plop and let himself sink down some before moving to swim. His dark scales and fins looked like a cloud of oil under the water with how it shimmered blue and purple, in moments though he disappeared when the light could no longer reach.
Sam nudged his brother's shoulder and grinned at him. "I think he likes you~ Pretty cute for being half fish." He had to tease Dead, especially after being given a gift. The younger brother headed back to the helm to start the boat back up and drive to the docks. "Should we come back for Zulu's help. I don't want him to get hurt any more because of us."
Dean didn’t even notice the eye rolling, but after such explanation, the older hunter nodded. Understanding that no one could see him or who knows what they’ll do to him. Of course, Zulu also needed the water. He gave the merman a little smile when he touched his hand, giving it a little squeeze before he got onto his feet and nodded that he was ready to lift Zulu up.
Dean positioned himself at Zulu’s back and hooked his arms under his. He checked Sam if he was ready and when he was, he lifted him up and brought him over to the side.
“Is this good enough?”

He was preoccupied for a moment examining Dean but then he felt the current in the water change. Zulu whipped his head around towards the shadow and a look of horror cast over his face. The merman grabbed Dean by his waist and swam with him as fast as he could away. He looked towards the surface and saw the hull of the boat. Whipping his tail as hard as he could he swam to the surface next to the boat.
They both broke the surface and Zulu shoved Dean towards the boat. Then was suddenly grabbed from below, a scream cut off as he was yanked below the surface. The sea monster's dark silhouette circling around the boat.
The guilt of hurting the merman had never departed from him completely. It even kept him awake at night longer than usual. Dean had seen him heal as he and Sam helped with getting the kelp. Witnessing such a process was captivating. Knowing that he wasn’t wounded anymore helped to ease some of the guilt. Zulu was no harm to them or to anyone. He looked like the gentlest soul he’d ever met. There was something about him he couldn’t place, a connection perhaps?
Swimming down with his diver’s gear, he hoped to spot Zulu and give him a sign that it was them, not the monster. With the breathing piece between his lips, moving his legs to push himself forward.
Quickly, he noticed his new friend, or so he hoped, and waved at him. Dean couldn’t talk with his gear on, but he could see the expression. Was that amusement? When Zulu tapped the mask, Dean babbled through his mouthpiece, releasing bubbles that shot up to the surface. How was he going to ask if he had seen the monster? Dean looked around and realized that he didn’t have to ask, as an enormous shadow was approaching them.

Since being released the merman had been resting, recovering his energy from the stressful day previously. Sleeping at the sea floor, just thirty feet deep since they weren't too far from shore. Zulu was curled up, black flowing fins swaying with the kelp in the gentle current. When he felt something larger than the average fish getting closer the merman woke up and was going to dart thinking it might be the monster. Instead it was a familiar human.
He swam gracefully over to meet Dean and circled around him, curious as to what he had on. Some metal container on his back, the fake fins on his feet looked so silly! The amusement clear on Zulu's face as he inspected them then swam up to give Dean's mask a puzzled tap.

Dean nodded slowly. “But we have to be careful with the where information. The last thing we want or need are overzealous hunters ridding them from this world. So far there is no reason to go hunting his kind down and I don’t want them to just assume…” He’s already done that and it gotten Zulu hurt quite bad.
When all suited up, Dean sat at the edge and dropped himself into the water, back first. Dean looked around before he swam deeper little by little, swirling from side to side to look for Zulu, no idea where he had to look precisely. It’s not like he could call out for him with the oxygen mask around his lips.

Dean looked over at his brother with a frown. “This isn’t the pirates of the Caribbean or the little mermaid, Sammy… Maybe the real deal is totally different? Maybe there are more kinds out there, ocean and fresh water, I dunno!” He shrugged. Zulu was a very handsome creature, but he wasn’t going to tell Sam that. Already teasing when Zulu gave him a gift.
“The treatment worked, he was all healed, you saw it. I just don’t like the sound of him being bait. We have to tell him, ask him if he’s willing. He might want to help us but not being bait, who could blame him?”
When docked, Dean got off. “Come on Sammy! We got a net to get and a piece of shit to catch.” He walked over to his car.
Sam considered Dean's point and nodded in agreement. Having some backup underneath the surface would benefit the hunt and give them an advantage. "You're right, but he doesn't look like the kind of merfolk from tales of sinking ships and drowning sailors. More like ones that sit on rocks to sing and look pretty." The younger brother said, though both could either be all truth or lies since it was the first merfolk they've encountered.
"If Zulu can swim faster than either of us he might be better bait. That is if the sea kelp treatment did it's work." He suggested as they docked and proceeded to tie up the boat once the engine was shut off.

Dean didn’t know what to say when he was handed a little sea turtle broach as a gift. He looked down at his flannel shirt and then back at Zulu. “Thank you…” He didn’t think he earned it, if it weren’t for Sam, he might have been dead. Sam earned it. “I will come back… We will come back.” After that he watched him drop back into the water, admiring the oil-like effect until it was gone.
The Winchester snapped his head to his little brother. “Oh shut up, you brat…” He scowled. Fucking tease. He looked back at the water but Zulu was no longer there.
After a couple of minutes, Dean walked to his brother. “If he wants to help, we should let him help. We can swim and all, but we are risking a lot more in the water than he is. He can help. He’s at an advantage in there, we’re not, absolutely not… Can we really turn his help down?”
The humans had his full trust now and he allowed them to handle his body as needed to lift him up. Zulu looked between the brothers then pushed himself to a sitting position. He reached for Dean's hand and gave him a reassuring smile. "I need the water." The merman told him. "Will hide in the kelp forest, the monster wont see me." He said and looked back at Sam with a nod.
The younger brother nodded back and looked to his brother. "Lets slide him over to the side and try to lift him. Hold him under his arms and I'll get his tail."

As Zulu checked his wounds, Dean did the same and it was indeed better. “It looks a lot better…” It was such a relief. The older one grinned widely and looked up at Sam, glad that they managed to save his life, save someone innocent. But the smile disappeared upon learning that he was all by himself.
“Sam… Wait, he looks really tired and are we going to send him back where that monster floats around?” Somehow he didn’t want to part from Zulu. It was weird. Dean doesn’t grow attached so easily.
He sat up straight and looked down at Zulu, not sure what was going on, but he wanted Zulu to be safe and rested. “Go get a new net, I’ll stay and watch the ship…” He knew it wasn’t a ship, but hey, Sam knew what he meant.

Sam helped with getting as much kelp as possible then knelt with Dean beside the merman to drape all of the gooey sea plants over him. Soon looking like they put a blanket of Kelp over Zulu.
The merman opened his eyes to look to Dean when his hand was taken again and he stayed still. He's used kelp before but never had so many injuries. After a few long minutes Zulu reached down to the kelp and moved it aside to check himself, the wounds were closed and scales were growing back. "Better." He said with a tired smile.
The younger brother breathed a sigh of relief and he grabbed Dean's shoulder, proud that they managed to save this creature. "Good, That's real good... Do you want to go back into the water now? You have someone like you to look after you?" Sam asked, curious if there were more that could look after Zulu.
Zulu looked to the back of the boat and sighed. "They left when danger arrived." He said sadly and looked back to the humans.
"We can't keep him Dean." Sam whispered to his brother. "Lets get him back into the water then head back to shore. We're going to need a new net. We're still on a hunt."

Dean felt a slight panic in his chest when at first it didn’t seem to work, but after a bit of waiting he saw that it was and he released a breath that he didn’t know he was holding. But instead of seeing relief on the merman, he saw discomfort. “Don’t move too much…” Dean said and lied down next to the merman, taking his hand back in his and tried to be the comfort again before he wrapped him up in kelp.
Never in his life had he seen something, someone like Zulu, nor did he ever see such healing process. It was fascinating to say the least, but he didn’t want the other to be in pain for it. “Hold on…”

Zulu lied down on the deck when Dean moved to begin draping the kelp over the wounds. At first it didn't seem to be doing anything and the merman continued to slowly bleed from the wounds. But after the third patch of kelp there was some shimmering beneath the kelp. Something in the sea plant seemed to activate the merman's magic and his body began to heal.
A soft groan came from the merman as the healing process began, it seemed to be just as painful as getting the wounds. Zulu tried to move, wanting to curl up and hide.
