There was some grumbling from her, she Tsukuyomi pulled her husband back into bed by his wrist, her arm soon going around him as she re-affirmed her hold she once had on him.

“... The sun... is still out....” She murmured sleepily. “... To early... to get up....”

Tsukuyomi was partly wondering if the Lord Protector had fell asleep. They both had been very quiet & not moving, very comfortable sitting beside each other on a bench, as they looked outside to the stars & moon above. In feeling his head rest on her shoulder, it made him appear like he was asleep... & it was very, very cute, bring her to lean her own head against his gently.

Lucius paused for a bit, listening to his wife as she spoke, holding his hand. There were two differing opinions on what might be needed in this situation, but only one was to be acted upon.. and in it two, this loving couple, at times, had a tendency to be stubborn too.

“I was expecting you to stick by me, no matter how much I persuade you to do otherwise.” He responded, with an initial smile on his face. “After all, your love and care for me is infinite, of course you would never leave my side in a situation like this. It is in your promise, your vow.. and I truly am grateful for you and your tender care, I always will.”

That was when the smile left his face.

“Please forgive me then, for what I am about to do.”

He didn’t say another words, the grip on her hands tightened as an aura would envelop her.. until she was completely encased in it.

And then, in a flash… she was gone. He had whisked her away, just far enough to ensure he had to do what he had to do.. but that she could still return to him afterwards.

At least, he hoped anyway.

Regardless of what they might have thought what was required here, in the end, it was still born from the desire to protect what was most important to each of them; the village & each other. It was obvious in the wife’s eyes, to everyone around, how worried sick she was about him. That she just wanted to keep her husband safe.

“I will always stick by you, that what love drives one to do.” For a while, a smile did crawl onto Tsukuyomi’s face. She was stubborn indeed, but stubborn only out of her love for him. For a moment, she thought he was going to allow her to stay by his side in this endeavor, but her thought would be quite wrong.

She felt him squeeze her hands like that, followed quickly by that aura, & her expression changed swiftly. She knew what he was doing right away.

“W-wait-!” She tried to call out, to get him to stop, but he clearly had his mind made up before he had even begun. By the time she had reacted...

... she was already gone.

It was an impassioned speech, most certainly.. and in some ways Lucius expected this, for Lady Tsukuyomi to flip the switch and stand up for her husband. It was natural, she looked out for him.. but at the same time, he looked out for her. While expected, it was not what he wanted to see, for he did not want her to become a target as well. She was not who they were after, nor should she become so.

He did not underestimate this boy, this boy had something to him.. and whether or not he could take him on his own, if there was a lesson to be learnt, it had to be found out right here, right now.

Closing his eyes for a moment, he put a hand on his wife’s shoulder, before turning to her as his eyes opened, a little smile coming to him.

“It is okay, my dear. I can handle him. You do not need to put yourself in harms way.. and I do not want you getting hurt.”

No matter what happens, if anyone had to face this, it had to be him, just him.

How could she not, with her husband being put in danger this way? She loved her beloved Lucius, so dearly with her life, she couldn’t stand someone stating that they’ll take him away from her, to god only knows where; & likely never to return.

Even if too, she could tell that this boy was something different from others, that was not something that would scare her away. Still over, the blonde was still a boy, too young to understand what had been explained to them, & also likely too young to be at his full potential. In her mind, a bit of discipline was what he needed, & that can’t be so difficult for both of them.

He managed to collect her attention again, with his hand being put on her shoulder.

“But... my love....” She began, her own hands going to move & hold his. “I do not want you in harms way either. I know it is seemingly impossible, but I vowed I would never leave your side, in both the good & bad times. I intend to keep my promise.”

She didn’t want to leave him here alone. What sort of wife would she be if she did?

It all made sense, but as much as it made sense, it would take more than logical explanation to break a mindset someone has had since they were little. And as much as Lucius and his wife looked like a loving couple, the blonde’s thinking seemed to snap back, the long term belief hitting him like a brick.

“Nnnngh, enough!” And just like that, he pulled out his IDND, aiming it at Lucius. “The only true guidance is Light! Anything otherwise is only a fallacy! What trickery is this? Trying to convince me to give up everything in my life?”

There was this pause from Lucius, remaining calm throughout.

“I see… you are experiencing cognitive dissonance. It is a natural reaction, but I must adivse you against doing anything hasty.  There is no need to use your weapon in this environment, nobody means you any harm.”

There was this.. grumble, from the blonde, before he spoke up again. “Let’s focus on the matter at hand. I am only after you, nobody else here. If you will not comply in accompanying me back to the Ministry of Science Headquarters in Authrum, I have been authorised to use force for you to comply.”

“…..I see.” The protector mused. “I am afraid, in either of those scenarios, as I have mentioned, leaves my town exposed. I will not be subject to such a decision either way. If I must fight you, to remain in this town to protect it, then I will. I have received your warning, I hope you have received mine, boy.”

Annnnd, like a drop of a dime, this otherwise calm, & good seeming situation, was boiling over into chaos. Tsukuyomi’s heart just about leap out of her chest, seeing the blonde boy pulled out that strange looking device & pointing it at Lucius, with her grip on her husband’s arm tightening like a vice.

“And who are you, & this Ministry of Science, to take a man away from his home? From his family? You have no right to snatch a person away from their family, & for what? Because your worried about some pointless bloodline of his, so you want to dedicate his life for him because of it? Or even outright take his life or all I dare know! How dare you! What sort of person are you to take a husband away from his wife without ripe reason?!”

Tsukuyomi has heard more then enough. She had been silent all this time, hoping that this might be able to blow over peacefully & the boy will leave them alone, if her husband’s words could just pierce his skull. But at this point, it seemed like that never was an option, for it was either go peacefully, or be brought forcefully.

“Lord Lucius is staying here. If you will not leave of your own accord, then I will see you out personally.”

So, the same options will be present back. Bowen could either leave on his own, or he will be thrown out forcefully. It was Tsukuyomi’s own warning.

You… don’t want to do that. It might not even be possible to do that, not with Lucius’ estimations of him. But he felt the boy wouldn’t be ‘trashing the place’, but instead focus more on his target.

“Think about it as such. What is Light? What is Darkness? Fundamentally, these two things are merely elements. Neither of them are more powerful or overbearing than the other, on it’s own. It is the perception that people have towards these elements, their influence, their use of such an element as a driving force for their own goals, whether it be for the greater good or the forces of evil, that bring about an imbalance. You may not be willingly wanting destruction, but your belief of the Light as the one true element of peace renders you ignorant that not all people who preach the Darkness is wanting to bring about the end? Not everyone of the Darkness wants to plunge the world into the black void. Some of us find peace and solitude in it. But we are exiled, persecuted, hunted, by those outside, for our beliefs, treated as satanists, devil worshippers, when as you can see. That is not the case. You can look for yourself. We are a village of peace. Are we not?”

“..Y…yeah?”

“Then as you can see, there is no need to worry for me, for my village. I am here to protect my people. I owe it to them that their lives are kept safe. We are safe for the moment from those who wish to destroy us, but that will not be forever. I am sure people will try and find me, try to persuade me into some other goal, but in the end, they will not succeed. To take me away from my people, is an attack on the village itself, to expose it to those who wish to eradicate us all, in the name of such a blind 'Justice’. Do you.. want to be that person, young man? Do you want to be responsible for taking away such a protector, of such lives and livelihoods? You seem like a man who wants to save lives, not ruin them, are you not?”

“…Guh….”

“Good & evil are only relative terms, which can only be applied to people, to that which is capable of thought, just like peace & destruction. Elements are not capable of thought, it is all dependent on whose who wield those elements.” Good & evil are, after all, different in every person’s eyes, as are peace & destruction. Each person has their own way of thinking, & could see things differently to the person next to them. If only everyone knew this, many things would be better in the world... but that’s food for thought at a different time.

And soon,Tsukuyomi was holding onto her husband’s arm closely, with a smile that could only be described as sweet. Like a wife’s eternal love.

“Correction, we are both here to protect our people, as we have for centuries. Isn’t that correct, my love?” Tsukuyomi would never once let Lucius believe he was alone in his life’s struggles. She was with him in the past, she is with him now, & she will always be with him, forever.

Now things were really going to get good, as Lucius let out a sigh, before addressing the blonde.

“Young man. Please understand, I am not someone who wishes to be found, whether it be for your… concerns.. or for the fact that as my wife has already mentioned, I am living my own life. I do not wish to be dragged into such outside conflict, whether it be because of who I am.. or because of what people want to do with me.. or to me. This, is my home. These people are my family, whom I have sworn to protect. We are an isolated community deliberately shelted from the rest of the world, to live in our peace. People have judged us, feared us, tried to destroy us, for what we believe in, yet, we are doing no harm. We never mean any harm to anyone. There is no reason for us to be targeted, if we are living peacefully, just as there is no reason for you, to target me, if I am living in peace.”

As much as Bowen was miffed, he could see where he was coming from…

“Haaah. Look, I get it, it seems…. you’ve got a life of your own and you aren’t causing trouble to anyone, there’s been no talk of that at all in this world, I get that. I also get that people in this world are trying to hunt down this village just because they are scared of you.. but what I can see is no hostility. I’m more concerned about people coming after you. Dangerous people, who probably have all the magic and resources used to raze your village and make you into a pawn… or a messiah.. just for their own selfish gains.”

“…You say it like it has not happened before? I am aware that people seek to make me into my ancestor. I managed to escape, with my wife, to lose them, to find refuge and start a proper life. Sure, they may try and find me, but I am of a level now where they could not even get close to having a second attempt. We too have our own magic, to keep us undetected from those who hunt us.. or me. As long as we are careful.. we will be fine.”

“..But surely.. there are those who might detect your magic? Is it.. really all that foolproof? These people, they have already done nasty things before, and their abilities of the dark.. they can tap into people, bring out their negative emotions. You say you have fended this off before but.. I don’t think you’d be invulnerable to what some of these people are really capable of.”

A laugh escaped the tall man.

“Dear boy. The abilities of the dark, the Darkness, it is a fallacy. The Dark has been abused for millennia by those who only see it is a power for corruption and greed. That is not the fault of the element, that is the fault of those using it. It is.. the same as the Light really. Yes, the Light in it’s purest form is just as peaceful and as good as the Dark, but it is constantly abused by those who wield it in a blind belief that it must vanquish the Dark in order to bring peace among all. For too long, this has resulted in a prejudice against those who are already peaceful… and painted those commencing such atrocities as heroes and champions. I even feel that you… are following in that same blind path, as those before you.”

“…W…what?”

As much as Tsukuyomi wanted to simply throw the blonde boy out of the village, considering she didn’t trust him to just start trashing the place if they posed resistance to him, but she stilled her hand.

As much as she may not have trust him, it was possible that her husband could talk sense into the boy. Maybe. Considering he was allowing Lucius to talk to him... & actually appeared to be listening.

It was a big misconception indeed, taught to generations, for generations. It had nothing to do with powers whatsoever, but all about belief and prejudice, blanketed in the belief of ‘justice’, whatever that was. It wasn’t justice, it was indeed tyranny, a reckless fantasy that light always gives hope and life and that the dark only brings about the end. Not so, never so.

There was a moment when he was lead to wonder about what she was saying, that he was the first person, supposedly, to come to this village for a long, long time. Not only that, but maybe his target might well be living hiw own life, not ever wanting to be found. As much as he commended such a thing, there was always the concern that outside forces would do all in their power to find him, even to come for those he held so dear.

“Hmm…” Bowen closed his eyes for a bit, in thought of wondering what to do next… until..

“…Lord Lucius! Lord Lucius!”

The voice of a middle aged man rang out as he made his way through the crowd, rushing to the scene… and to the couple standing in the middle… more so trying to get the attention of the man.

“Lord Lucius, the flowers, they are concerned, they are flopping in worry, that there is someone coming to bring despair to the town. Oh, Lord Lucius.. please tell me it is not so.”

There was a pause in the other man, as if trying to ignore the other, but he only got closer… close enough to tapping him on the shoulder.

“…Lord Lucius.. say something.. are you okay?”

“Yes.. Dar-Bell. Everything is fine. How about you go tell the flowers that I will take care of it.”

The other man’s eyes lit up in relief.

“Oh.. thank you Lord Lucius! I will tend to them right away!”

And so the buffoon scurried off past the crowd and out of sight in haste… leaving the blonde surprised… and with a tad look of anger in his face.

“…Lord Lucius, huh?”

“............................................”

... Is that a vein sticking out of Tsukuyomi’s head I see?

“... You have to be kidding me....”

She knows that this is a village out in the middle of nowhere... but come on... this was an unnatural level of obliviousness & stupidity.

It wasn’t really a question that cat was outta the bag now, it was like popping a balloon in a small room filled with people. The real question was, what the blonde male was going to do now, with what had been brought to his table, he knew who Lucius was now, that he was indeed living here in this village... & that Tsukuyomi had attempted to lie to him about that.

What was he going to do?

There was one thing about this… boy… that had Lucius concerned. You never judged a book by it’s cover. Yeah, he seems harmless, but the aura he was getting from the blonde, it was like this guy was on a whole different level. It made him wonder if this person could fight.. and fight hard. Would it be better to just make it out that he had been lead down the wrong path.. that his target wasn’t actually here at all?

“While it is agreed upon that lineage does not equal future or intent, it is the susceptibility to such a road that we are worried about. The Demon King tainted the blood of his lineage throughout. There are parties out there who wish to find such an individual and use him for their own purposes. Even if… he isn’t intent on becoming like his ancestor, these people would either turn him into such an individual… or use his abilities as a pawn.. for further chaos and destruction.

…This is starting to sound familiar to him.

She was beginning to think this sounded familiar too, she had heard every piece of bologna like this about her husband before... not just about her husband, but about the darkness too. That it somehow made someone more susceptible to another person’s influence, or that it was a focus point for chaos & destruction. How likely is the young boy going to believe them if they tell him something like this was attempted before, & failed?

“Well... as far as I know, no such person has come here.” Tsukuyomi began lying through her teeth, while squeezing Lucius’s hand tightly. She knows all of them have been listening, & hopefully all of the villagers will play along too. They know Lucius would never hurt a soul, or let any of them get hurt by someone else, but what are the odds that this blonde will believe that? Especially with what he’s saying?

He knew she would be, she would definitely be by his side. Indeed, one would imagine she didn’t like hearing those words, being Lucius’ wife and all. The last time that was brought up was, well, when an actual cult was trying to make him into the next Demon King.

Did the blonde know who the man was? Did he have identification, proof? No, surely not, no such thing could end up outside of this world, right?

“My organisation has grave concerns that this individual, by blood, has the ability to cause multiversal concern, should he follow in the footsteps of his father, that his following into the darkness presses concern that negative entities could approach him.. and that he could be turned with little resistance.”

…What dribble is this? Lucius had never heard such cliched tripe for a long time. The darkness, evil? Negative entities? Surely if they existed, they would have made an attempt to get him by now.

For the moment, he kept his mouth shut, letting his wife do the talking. It was better to not identify himself just yet, in the hopes that this boy could be convinced otherwise.

But then again too, did they really just send a boy to take on this matter? Some kid like him? Are they crazy?

Lucius wasn’t the only one who thought it strange for any sort of organisation to send a child to handle a matter like this, if it was truly as important as said boy implies. So, there must have been something about this boy they didn’t know... though, it was also something obvious about him, at least to the husband & wife.

“You are concerned of the man’s future actions due to his heritage?” Tsukuyomi had an eyebrow go up on her face, for she hadn’t heard this ridiculousness in a while either. “That is a rather low bar to pin a person too, merely that whoever their father or great grandfather happened to be, condemns who they are & what they do with themselves, isn’t it?”

It was quite the sight, to have this big man ready to protect the town, but with his wife right there by his side, linking arms together, like they were indeed, in this together.

But it was also a sight to see the threat in the form of such a young individual, but he looked like he was here for something.. and it wasn’t good. It was like his presence was enough to draw out what he might be looking for.

“I’m looking for the one they call Lucius.” He stated. “The descendant of the Demon King.”

The look on Lucius’ face soured when he heard those words. It was in that instant, he knew why this guy was here.. and it wasn’t in regards to the town at all.

Of course, Tsukuyomi was in this together with Lucius, husbands & wives would always endure whatever troubles together. And she would made sure, he always knew, she would be right there by his side.

Funny enough, that she didn’t take all to well to hearing those words either, even though the boy wasn’t speaking about her. Tsukuyomi hadn’t heard anyone refer to her husband like that in... years... & the last time someone had... it wasn’t done positively.

She did try to keep a straight face, even as Lucius’s expression went into a unhappy frown, even squeezing his arm lightly to try & comfort him. To remind him that, even if this was about him, he still was not alone.

“And why would you be looking for such a man?”

Indeed it had not ever happened before. A sudden presence appearing in  the middle in the village. How did this one just get through? Still, best to take care of it now, and think about all of it later.

With a nod, Lucius ran, at speeds unimaginable. It actually did not take him long at all to make it to the town center. Upon arrival, passing through the bewildered crowds, did he come across something that was just as strange. It was no monster, no armoured figure, no shining angel.

…It was a man. Blonde hair, in navy blue clothing, but oh did he look so very, very serious.. and the power, the presence, it clearly came from him.

Who was he… and what did he want?

Tsukuyomi could be fast, though she wasn’t nearly as fast as Lucius, it’s why she let him go onward ahead. And despite her lack of speed, she did manage to eventually catch up to the Lord Protector, her hands finding their way around his arm, so that he would know she was there with him now.

Yet, what she happened upon, when she reach the village & rejoin the man’s side was... something much more innocent looking then she expected. A boy, one that barely looked of age in fact, with aggressively blonde hair & blue eyes, with a serious look that seemed to be keeping everyone from really speaking to him. Though everyone was certainly looking at him, no one was actually talking to him.

“... Can we help you, young man?” Well, if no one else was going to speak, then she will.

So she should be worried, this was all so very, very worrying.

“I can feel it, it is so very strong, it could not be anything else. I can feel it coming from the center of the village. We must hurry, it could be anything.” And that was what concerned him the most. What was it. How much of a danger is this presence to the people he was meant to protect?

“W-what-?!” What the man said next to Tsukuyomi didn’t seem to make her feel any better about the situation, but it had her getting up from the hammock too. A strong light presence... at the center of the village. That’s... never happened before, even Tsukuyomi normally had the ability to sense things before they reached being close to village, how did this one manage to sneak by? Had they been lazy...?

... Whatever there was no time for that now.

“Please. Go. You’re faster then me, I will catch up.”

A quiet wedding sounds like them, to just have it as them, as eachother, for a wedding was about their union together, to be connected for all eternity.

The hammock was rocking, but he was keen to get off. Still, he kept a grip on Violet to keep her stable. Sadly, all that relaxation had gone, he was now looking very, very concerned.

“I can feel a presence. A presence of light. While comforting, I can feel ill intention. We have to see what it is.”

She could see all the worry on his face, & the way he was moving, he wouldn’t normally be in such a rush, much less on a hammock. And that in turn made her worried.

“A presence...?” Just that in itself made an eyebrow raise on her head, they know how hard it was to find this place. “Are... you sure? No one has arrived here in years, the idea of someone suddenly showing it difficult to believe.”

They probably were husband and wife already, having taken that vow and now living that long drawn honeymoon, every single night. Everyone seemed to well be safe in this village of night.

…That is, until something would come along to endanger everything.

Eyes shot open, as the male sensed an energy. He moved to sit up a bit from the hammock. Something was wrong, something is very, very wrong.

“…We need to get going, now.”

One wouldn’t be surprised, if they had married oh so long ago, with a quiet little wedding in the village possibly even. And they were just enjoying the love of such a union, in their comforting new home.

“Eh?” As the male once cuddling with her began to sit up, the hammock began to rock, making Tsukuyomi’s grip around him tighten a bit. He definitely surprised her, he was so relaxed but a moment ago.

“Sweetie...? What’s the matter?”

It pretty much is. Were they married? They might as well be given this sort of affection and closeness. They probably won’t be needed for a while anyway. This village was practically isolated from everything, they were just there in case something was to happen. That was a good thing, for it gave them far more time to spend together like this.

Who knows actually, they probably would have gotten married very long ago. They had been together so long, & clearly love each other so deeply, there was surely plenty of people in the village who believed it. That their two protectors, as husband & wife, it’s no wonder everyone were enraptured looking at them. Everyone in this safe little village of night.
