“L-Lucius!!” 

This hadn’t been good. She hadn’t even gotten a chance to figure out what happened herself, she just woke up this way, & just when she was ready to look into it, she ran into him.

It didn’t look good on her. It looked like a stranger had broken into the house he shared with Lady Tsukuyomi, his wife; who was no where to be seen.

“P-please listen to me for a moment!!”

There was some grumbling from her, she Tsukuyomi pulled her husband back into bed by his wrist, her arm soon going around him as she re-affirmed her hold she once had on him.

“... The sun... is still out....” She murmured sleepily. “... To early... to get up....”

Tsukuyomi was partly wondering if the Lord Protector had fell asleep. They both had been very quiet & not moving, very comfortable sitting beside each other on a bench, as they looked outside to the stars & moon above. In feeling his head rest on her shoulder, it made him appear like he was asleep... & it was very, very cute, bring her to lean her own head against his gently.

Lucius paused for a bit, listening to his wife as she spoke, holding his hand. There were two differing opinions on what might be needed in this situation, but only one was to be acted upon.. and in it two, this loving couple, at times, had a tendency to be stubborn too.

“I was expecting you to stick by me, no matter how much I persuade you to do otherwise.” He responded, with an initial smile on his face. “After all, your love and care for me is infinite, of course you would never leave my side in a situation like this. It is in your promise, your vow.. and I truly am grateful for you and your tender care, I always will.”

That was when the smile left his face.

“Please forgive me then, for what I am about to do.”

He didn’t say another words, the grip on her hands tightened as an aura would envelop her.. until she was completely encased in it.

And then, in a flash… she was gone. He had whisked her away, just far enough to ensure he had to do what he had to do.. but that she could still return to him afterwards.

At least, he hoped anyway.

Regardless of what they might have thought what was required here, in the end, it was still born from the desire to protect what was most important to each of them; the village & each other. It was obvious in the wife’s eyes, to everyone around, how worried sick she was about him. That she just wanted to keep her husband safe.

“I will always stick by you, that what love drives one to do.” For a while, a smile did crawl onto Tsukuyomi’s face. She was stubborn indeed, but stubborn only out of her love for him. For a moment, she thought he was going to allow her to stay by his side in this endeavor, but her thought would be quite wrong.

She felt him squeeze her hands like that, followed quickly by that aura, & her expression changed swiftly. She knew what he was doing right away.

“W-wait-!” She tried to call out, to get him to stop, but he clearly had his mind made up before he had even begun. By the time she had reacted...

... she was already gone.

Of course, despite being the same soul, if Lucius was in her shoes, he would feel the same way too, to be in a body that wasn’t your own, that you didn’t have the same capabilities you previously had. That you didn’t feel strong anymore. It would be confronting, scary, it could leave a horrible feeling in your chest, stomach, of uncertainty. What could happen next.

He was looking out for her because she was tired, but it seemed she thought otherwise.

“..If you feel that you are up for it, we can start right away.”

If she wanted to immediately find a way of returning to her own body and she was capable, he would help her every step of the way, he was going to anyway.

He just hoped.. she wasn’t going to collapse if she was feeling so tired.

“I just... I worry about what could happen if I stay like this long.”

Honestly, there no way of knowing if, well, anything will happen if Tsukuyomi stayed like this for any period of time; other then her becoming used to her new body. ... And that in itself she didn’t like.

“Maybe there’s something in our old books we can find? That would explain this & a possibly reversal spell? Maybe we should begin with that.”

Look, body aside, it’s still Violet. That’s what matters. He wasn’t used to this, sure, and he can tell she isn’t either, but he’s still going to treat her as his wife regardless. A big contrast though to the big, strong woman that he knew her to be however!

Tired. Well, was it to be expected given that this has just happened? “How about we take a nap, my dear?” He suggested to her. “It might do us both good to have a rest.”

Yes, yes, no matter what, this was always going to be Violet, no appearance shift was going to change that. Even if Violet didn’t feel like herself anymore, looking in a mirror just made her feel uncomfortable. She didn’t like being so small, so weak, did she even have the same strength she did before? The same abilities over the moon & the dark she learned alongside Lucius? It didn’t feel like it.

“Is that a smart idea? Shouldn’t we be trying to change me back as soon as possible?”

It was meant to be a broader term than just her physical looks. Sure, she looked cute, still pretty, but nothing like the woman she originally was, the true beauty that he knew and fell in love with. She was still the same wonderful soul, regardless.

It wasn’t his intention to sour the mood by any means, just giving a little laugh as he held her a tad tighter. “My apologies, my love.”

She knew what he meant, but she couldn’t help but feel that should a compliment didn’t sit right with her body being this way. Perhaps it wasn’t a surprise, she missed her original body, feeling so small, skinny & weak... she hated it.

She never felt so weak like this... like... really... really weak.

“Gods... I feel so tired....” She mumbled a bit, yet she didn’t know why, she only just woke up sometime ago. “Just how weak is this body?”

Why such a sweetheart?

This was something they were both going to get through together. First came the comfort, easing her pain. He kept her close, holding her warmly. It was different, her frame, how her body was now compared to before, but she was still Violet, that was the main thing.

“You are always welcome, my beautiful Violet~”

Even with him trying to comfort her, she just couldn’t help but be disgusted with herself. She was so petite & small now, it was so different from her usually body. She didn’t feel like herself, she felt like somebody else. he calling her beautiful didn’t change that feeling. If anything, it might have made that feeling worse.

“... Please don’t call me beautiful while I’m like this.”

So many questions indeed. How did it happen? How did he not know. How can this be reversed? What was to come next? What are the consequences of this transformation.

…Why her?

“Shh.. do not be sorry, my sweetheart.” He soothed. It was not her fault, it was never her fault. The look in her eyes, he saw it.. he met it with a kiss to her forehead. Even he wondered if there was some way he could have prevented it. What if he stayed up?

But neither of them knew.

The main thing to think of, was not why this happened or if they could have stopped it then, but what to do about it now.

Why her indeed. Why her indeed.

Though, she was quite still upset about this all, having Lucius here, believing her & comforting her, was able to make a small smile reach her face. She at least had him in this all. And really, the scariest thing for her was how he may have reacted, that he might not have believed her.

Having his support made this burden easier to shoulder.

“Thank you, Lucius.”

She… she doesn’t know?

She doesn’t know how she ended up like this?

The one relief, that he ascertained, believed, that she was the love of his life. His hands on her shoulders would only linger for a bit longer, but he was already wanting to pull her into a close hug.

“This… just happened overnight?” He asked her. “That you were fine when you went to bed.. but woke up like this?” Then it was likely that it happened while she was asleep, so he deduced. She was certainly smaller, everything about her was different now! How long did the transition take? He wouldn’t know.

“Well, I supposed we had better figure out what has happened and why. I am sorry this, must be very stressful for you.” He was speaking a little softer now. “But, I will be with you every step of the way, my love. I am here, for you.”

To her, it just seemed like she slept right through whatever process made this happen. Normal yesterday, different today. She had no idea, was this an accident? Was she targeted deliberately? So many questions.

“I’m... I’m sorry, Lucius.”

Tsukuyomi head seemed to drop.

She just felt so bad, not just for getting him involved, but for having this happen at all. She felt like she should of had a way to prevent this, somehow, someway. Maybe if she had stayed up? And you could see that in her eyes, she looked so upset, disappointed in herself. 

This shouldn’t of happened at all.

So she claims.

It was natural to ask for proof. The sad thing was that the physical side of things, well, there wasn’t anything to go on. The only thing he could rely on was her words, what she would say.

What would she say?

How can she prove that she is who she says she is? He could think of many memories when the two were alone. Truly alone. The journey they had been on. It had been quite a tumultuous adventure, with his torment, her rescue, the refuge in their forever home, the night that strange man showed up, naive to the balance. You could pick from so much.

There was only one person who was brought to the virgin sacrifice. Only one person whom he rescued. Surely nobody else knew of that, where she came from. No, nobody knew that.

Nobody but…

Her…

A realisation came to him. Maybe his heart clicked. Gazing upon her long enough. She might be in a different body.

But the soul can recognise it’s other half, it always can.

“…Violet…”

A gasp, now approaching her. Hands reaching out to her shoulders, one through the side of her hair.

“Violet, my sweet… what happened to you?”

“I... I don’t know.”

The mix of emotions that filled Lady Tsukuyomi made her feel like a mess. At first there was relief, relief that Lucius believed her. That he saw through the deception of this appearance change. That he knew he beloved no matter how much she’d change. Having his hands on her shoulders was a comfort too.

But that didn’t change the worry or the confusion of why this happened at all. She still, no matter how she thought of an explanation for this, why it happened & why it happened to her out of everyone in the world.

“I was... perfectly fine yesterday. Yet, when I woke up this morning, I noticed my body was much smaller then normal, & when I looked in the mirror... I looked like... well... this. I have no idea what happened between yesterday & today.”

But what else was he to think? A strange woman in his home? For what reason? Demons could take all sorts of forms. Even in the village he never felt he was truly safe, not completely. He could be so easily content in Violet’s arms, that was when he felt his most safe, but he still had to wonder if demons would ever spring upon this village and try and take him away from the world he found to call home.

The woman looked insecure. A natural concern if she needed help, if she had come to seek him out for something. Was it to do with the village? Was it to do with beyond the village? He had never seen her before, so it was a possibility she wasn’t a villager.

A natural need to help her out, but still the fact she was in his house, what if it was an act? To lull him into a false sense of security before attacking him and knocking him out cold?

Nothing could prepare him for the words that came out of her mouth.

“!!!”

She’s… she’s claiming she’s… but… that’s impossible? It wasn’t that long since he saw her leave before, right? What could have happened between? How is he even supposed to believe this woman is… his wife?

“…Explain yourself. Prove to me that you are who you claim to be…”

“Lucius, I’m serious. It’s me.”

Could she say she blamed him for not believing her? Of course not, she knew just how insane this all sounded, she hardly believed it herself, yet she was the subject to... whatever this appearance change was about.

She still couldn’t find a reason for this happening, no matter how much she racked her brain. She hadn’t been experimenting with any new spells or potions, or anything of the sort, & as far as she knew, no one else in the village was either.

He says he wants proof of who she said she was, which she could understand, but what could she do for proof. Any personal effect or gifts he may have given her weren’t with her, either stored somewhere safe or had disappeared when her appearance changed. So...

“Lucius...” Still there was a way. 

“I swear to you, it’s me, Violet. The young girl you save from a deadly fate when we were much younger. The virgin sacrifice you gave a new life, after struggle & error, as a teacher & wife.”

It didn’t look good at all. The moment he bumped into the individual in question, he took a few steps back. This woman…

Who was she?

No really, he didn’t recognise her at all!

Yet she knows his name.. she wants to speak with him.

She’s in his house… already a sign of suspicion. But… there is no sign of forced entry?

The male kept his distance from her, he was on the alert for anything she might do. He could kick her out, but it is only fair he listen. That is what a good guardian of the village is supposed to do, right?

“…Speak…”

The last thing she wanted was for him to think she was an intruder. Really, she could never do something like intrude on someone else’s space, but as she is now, no one would know any better.

“Lucius...”

She rubbed her arm a bit, so much distance. All she really wanted to do was curl up in his arms, but going near him as she was, that was dangerous. There’s no telling to the sort reaction he’d have if she took a step closer.

“... It’s me...”

Explaining how this happened was something she couldn’t even do, she didn’t have the answers on her own. But if she wanted to convince him who she was, she knew there was one name she could use over her current, more well known, name.

“... It’s Violet.”

It was an impassioned speech, most certainly.. and in some ways Lucius expected this, for Lady Tsukuyomi to flip the switch and stand up for her husband. It was natural, she looked out for him.. but at the same time, he looked out for her. While expected, it was not what he wanted to see, for he did not want her to become a target as well. She was not who they were after, nor should she become so.

He did not underestimate this boy, this boy had something to him.. and whether or not he could take him on his own, if there was a lesson to be learnt, it had to be found out right here, right now.

Closing his eyes for a moment, he put a hand on his wife’s shoulder, before turning to her as his eyes opened, a little smile coming to him.

“It is okay, my dear. I can handle him. You do not need to put yourself in harms way.. and I do not want you getting hurt.”

No matter what happens, if anyone had to face this, it had to be him, just him.

How could she not, with her husband being put in danger this way? She loved her beloved Lucius, so dearly with her life, she couldn’t stand someone stating that they’ll take him away from her, to god only knows where; & likely never to return.

Even if too, she could tell that this boy was something different from others, that was not something that would scare her away. Still over, the blonde was still a boy, too young to understand what had been explained to them, & also likely too young to be at his full potential. In her mind, a bit of discipline was what he needed, & that can’t be so difficult for both of them.

He managed to collect her attention again, with his hand being put on her shoulder.

“But... my love....” She began, her own hands going to move & hold his. “I do not want you in harms way either. I know it is seemingly impossible, but I vowed I would never leave your side, in both the good & bad times. I intend to keep my promise.”

She didn’t want to leave him here alone. What sort of wife would she be if she did?

It all made sense, but as much as it made sense, it would take more than logical explanation to break a mindset someone has had since they were little. And as much as Lucius and his wife looked like a loving couple, the blonde’s thinking seemed to snap back, the long term belief hitting him like a brick.

“Nnnngh, enough!” And just like that, he pulled out his IDND, aiming it at Lucius. “The only true guidance is Light! Anything otherwise is only a fallacy! What trickery is this? Trying to convince me to give up everything in my life?”

There was this pause from Lucius, remaining calm throughout.

“I see… you are experiencing cognitive dissonance. It is a natural reaction, but I must adivse you against doing anything hasty.  There is no need to use your weapon in this environment, nobody means you any harm.”

There was this.. grumble, from the blonde, before he spoke up again. “Let’s focus on the matter at hand. I am only after you, nobody else here. If you will not comply in accompanying me back to the Ministry of Science Headquarters in Authrum, I have been authorised to use force for you to comply.”

“…..I see.” The protector mused. “I am afraid, in either of those scenarios, as I have mentioned, leaves my town exposed. I will not be subject to such a decision either way. If I must fight you, to remain in this town to protect it, then I will. I have received your warning, I hope you have received mine, boy.”

Annnnd, like a drop of a dime, this otherwise calm, & good seeming situation, was boiling over into chaos. Tsukuyomi’s heart just about leap out of her chest, seeing the blonde boy pulled out that strange looking device & pointing it at Lucius, with her grip on her husband’s arm tightening like a vice.

“And who are you, & this Ministry of Science, to take a man away from his home? From his family? You have no right to snatch a person away from their family, & for what? Because your worried about some pointless bloodline of his, so you want to dedicate his life for him because of it? Or even outright take his life or all I dare know! How dare you! What sort of person are you to take a husband away from his wife without ripe reason?!”

Tsukuyomi has heard more then enough. She had been silent all this time, hoping that this might be able to blow over peacefully & the boy will leave them alone, if her husband’s words could just pierce his skull. But at this point, it seemed like that never was an option, for it was either go peacefully, or be brought forcefully.

“Lord Lucius is staying here. If you will not leave of your own accord, then I will see you out personally.”

So, the same options will be present back. Bowen could either leave on his own, or he will be thrown out forcefully. It was Tsukuyomi’s own warning.

You… don’t want to do that. It might not even be possible to do that, not with Lucius’ estimations of him. But he felt the boy wouldn’t be ‘trashing the place’, but instead focus more on his target.

“Think about it as such. What is Light? What is Darkness? Fundamentally, these two things are merely elements. Neither of them are more powerful or overbearing than the other, on it’s own. It is the perception that people have towards these elements, their influence, their use of such an element as a driving force for their own goals, whether it be for the greater good or the forces of evil, that bring about an imbalance. You may not be willingly wanting destruction, but your belief of the Light as the one true element of peace renders you ignorant that not all people who preach the Darkness is wanting to bring about the end? Not everyone of the Darkness wants to plunge the world into the black void. Some of us find peace and solitude in it. But we are exiled, persecuted, hunted, by those outside, for our beliefs, treated as satanists, devil worshippers, when as you can see. That is not the case. You can look for yourself. We are a village of peace. Are we not?”

“..Y…yeah?”

“Then as you can see, there is no need to worry for me, for my village. I am here to protect my people. I owe it to them that their lives are kept safe. We are safe for the moment from those who wish to destroy us, but that will not be forever. I am sure people will try and find me, try to persuade me into some other goal, but in the end, they will not succeed. To take me away from my people, is an attack on the village itself, to expose it to those who wish to eradicate us all, in the name of such a blind 'Justice’. Do you.. want to be that person, young man? Do you want to be responsible for taking away such a protector, of such lives and livelihoods? You seem like a man who wants to save lives, not ruin them, are you not?”

“…Guh….”

“Good & evil are only relative terms, which can only be applied to people, to that which is capable of thought, just like peace & destruction. Elements are not capable of thought, it is all dependent on whose who wield those elements.” Good & evil are, after all, different in every person’s eyes, as are peace & destruction. Each person has their own way of thinking, & could see things differently to the person next to them. If only everyone knew this, many things would be better in the world... but that’s food for thought at a different time.

And soon,Tsukuyomi was holding onto her husband’s arm closely, with a smile that could only be described as sweet. Like a wife’s eternal love.

“Correction, we are both here to protect our people, as we have for centuries. Isn’t that correct, my love?” Tsukuyomi would never once let Lucius believe he was alone in his life’s struggles. She was with him in the past, she is with him now, & she will always be with him, forever.
