I have written a lot less this year than in the past. When I first started writing in late 2021 I published roughly 80k words in 4 months, followed by 120k in 2022 and 83k in 2023. This year clocked in at only 46k. Despite the downward trend, I still wrote some stuff. Here’s a list:

🛼 Keep the Skates On - Explicit - 4k

Self indulgent roller skating fic for Erotic Grope Fest that I say is just a blowjob on wheels but in reality has some good backstory built in via flashbacks of their meet cute.

This story was also immortalized via art by the crazy talented Rimeswithpurple. Even just the shot of Baz’s skates and Simon’s shoes is so cinematic and big brained it still blows my mind.

💦Swimple Times, Swimple Pleasures - Mature - 2.5k

Baz and Simon rent a backyard pool for an hour while in Nebraska and sexy times ensue. Hopefully no one is watching…

This was a gift fic meant to immortalized an interesting yet lovely afternoon with friends in Omaha at SSCONE. Good times.

⏱️Back and Back and Back - Mature - 21k (WIP)

My time travel, canon divergent AU in which Baz is visited throughout his childhood by a Dragon Man he comes to find is an older version of his Watford roommate and nemesis.

My poor abandoned WIP. What can I say? It’s fully plotted via outline but I just lost steam writing this one. The school year took over in the fall and it just seemed unwieldy to come back to. But I love this story and playing with what might change in canon with this twist and what could have stubbornly stayed the same. I’m a completionist in many ways so there’s a good chance I’ll come back to this but without anything like a fest deadline lighting a fire under me it may be a while.

🕺The Wedding Planner - Teen - 6k

Baz, the wedding planner for a high profile wedding, gets roped into standing in for the bride in a dance lesson with the groom. The only problem is the frustratingly handsome groom and him have a past…

This fic was written in collaboration with Rimeswithpurple for CORB. Arianna killed it with the art, and it was such a joy to bring words to her idea. This story is a 40k fic disguised in a smaller package. I used a lot of flashbacks to build out the backstory (a similar strategy that I used in Keep the Skates On) which was wonderfully helpful because without it, I doubt I would have been able to write either fic. I think I was really feeling incapable of writing plotty stuff after temporarily shelving Back and Back and Back, and for both of these fics I found I could not write from the beginning because I didn’t want to do the slog through the set up. What ultimately worked for both was opening a new doc, starting the story in the middle, and filling in backstory as I went where necessary. This worked wonders, especially when I was crunched for time or feeling uninspired. I wrote the parts I wanted to write, which helped me get invested, and then the other bits followed easily. I’m such a linear writer that I never thought this strategy would work for me (starting with the scene I wanted to write) but! Cheat code! Start there and still write straight through! Amazing!

🎁 From the Heart - Teen - 12k

Watford, truce era, canon divergent story in which Simon finds Baz’s list of gift ideas for his Secret Santa assignment and freaks out when he realizes it’s for him. Baz? Trying to be thoughtful toward Simon? Cute gift giving crises soon follows.

This was a gift for @bookishbroadwayandblind for the Carry On discord server’s Secret Snowflake Exchange. This was so fun to write. Just fluffy, cute, pining with very low angst and a satisfying get together. Come for the silly premise, stay for the feeeeelings.

It’s nice to see these all stacked up because even though I wrote a lot less this year, AO3 still says I had 3k hits, 391 kudos, 109 comment threads, 77 bookmarks and 42 work subscriptions in 2024. That ain’t nothing! Thank you to everyone who engaged with these stories ✌🏻

-This was the first year I struggled with keeping up with people’s tumblr tags and posts and I feel a little sad when the notifs pile up and I haven’t responded. Sorry fam!

-Similarly, my AO3 inbox is full of comments I haven’t responded to which also bums me out. I kept it at zero for 3 years (I never delete, I either respond or mark responses as read) and my damn WIP has made me feel incapable of responding to nice comments because I’ve left it languishing. I love our comment culture in this fandom and I would like to get around to responding at some point.

-While organizing and helping to facilitate CORB can be really fun, there were a lot of behind the scenes challenges this year, some of which are still buzzing around my head.

Looking ahead to 2025

As many have said in their own posts, the community and friendships are the best parts of fandom and I hope to continue to cultivate those in 2025. That’s my main goal. Keep these relationships and keep vibing with y’all. I’m sure I’ll still be reading fic and ogling fanart. I’d like to get back to doing more fic rec posts and organizing them in some way. Maybe I’ll finish my WIP. Hopefully I’ll reply to all those lovely comments in my inbox. I might help mod some other fests. CORB is in need of new mods. I’ll organize a way to either get myself some help or possibly pass the torch if there’s interest in it running again.

🍓 ⇢ how did you get into writing fanfiction? it started with me being a dedicated reader on wattpad and tumblr, falling into so many different stories and getting swept away by them. i was on Tumblr for about a year, just as a reader, but then i stumbled upon the writings of @ellecdc and @moonstruckme. their stories were crafted with so much heart and creativity that i couldn’t resist giving it a try myself. they made it look like magic, and that’s when i felt like maybe t could create some magic of my own too.

🍄 ⇢ share a headcanon for one of your favorite ships or pairings: i have this headcanon for wolfstar that hits me right in the heart. remus has these restless nights sometimes—nights when the world feels too heavy, and he’s caught in his own thoughts, even if he doesn’t say it. sirius always seems to know, though, and without a word, he’ll reach over and tangle their fingers together, giving remus’s hand the gentlest squeeze. it's a simple gesture, but it’s like sirius telling him, “i’m here; you’re not alone.” and now i just made myself cry and smile like a crazy person 😔

❄️ ⇢ what's your dream theme/plot for a fic, and who would write it best? i’ve always dreamed of a series where the reader is a bakery owner and roommates with doctor!remus, teacher!james, and chef!sirius. each marauders-era character would have a different job, and the series would just follow their chaotic, loving lives with plenty of humor, banter, and maybe even a little angst. ideally, i’d have to write it myself (or collab with someone!), but if i were to choose someone else, i’d definitely go to you, @ellecdc, or @lupinsweater—because you three are basically AU royalty!

🦋 ⇢ share something that's been on your heart and mind lately: okay, this might get a little sad, so heads up. lately, I’ve been feeling insecure and just… not good about myself. i posted a rant about it recently, but it’s been on my mind a lot. i keep catching myself wondering if I’ll ever feel truly pretty or beautiful. some comments from my friends (who i love dearly) made me realize that, as much as i adore romance and the idea of love, maybe i'm just a hopeless romantic who might never get to experience the kind of love I dream about. i hate to ramble like this, but it's been weighing on me a bit. sorry for unloading it here, and thanks for listening.

Buck was very much still grieving Curt, he didn’t drink, he didn’t smoke, he didn’t gamble. So he sat in the bar quietly as Bucky drank away his pain pretending as if it didn’t happen. He’d see him keep looking to his side to poke fun at Curt or create some trouble. Then Bucky's face would falter from his drunk smile and shoot a glance over to where Buck sat in the corner. Where they would sit in the corner with Curt smashed between them like some homoerotic sandwich.

Buck sat with his knee pressed into Bucky’s some guys were playing craps but they were just observing. “Maybe if you flew your missions during the day you’d hit your targets.” Demarco pointed a finger at the four RAF pilots sitting across from them.

“Maybe if you flew your missions at night you wouldn’t lose so many forts.” One of the RAF bastards scoffed looking at them. The table went quiet and everyone began to turn glances to John and Gale.

John felt Buck go tense next to him and grab his leg gently. He could tell he was uncomfortable. John knew better than anyone else Buck was now just beginning to get his time to grieve for Curt. After they found out Curt and Dickie didn’t make it they wrote their parents letters. Then packed up their stuff to send back.

Bucky had been an absolute mess, he had cried so much and so hard he was shaking and could barely get out of bed for a few days. Buck had taken care of him until he was ready to try going back to normal.

“I think we’re gonna call it a night, boys.” Bucky slapped the table lightly.

“Oh, are you Majors too sensitive to own up to your mistakes?” One of the RAF officers taunted.

Bucky felt his face go red as he narrowed his eyes, shoving the guys out of the booth so him and Buck could get out. “Do you wanna settle up my tab?” Bucky took his wallet out and handed the money to Buck, he watched as the blonde walked over to the bartender.

Bucky grabbed the collar of the RAF jerks jacket forcing him to look up into his eyes. “Don’t ever talk to him that way again or disrespect our men who laid down their lives flying missions. Your asses can’t do it successfully.” Bucky pointed a finger at him aggressively, he could see the other man shaking and his lip quivering, “Understood, yank?” Bucky spoke, mocking their accents.

“Understood, sir.” the man swallowed as Bucky let go, shoving him back slightly.

John walked alongside Buck back to the barracks, their hands interlocked as John kicked a rock.

“You didn’t have to do that,” Buck sighed, stealing a quick glance over at John. he had his eyes gazed on the rock he was kicking. John let out an exasperated sigh and gave Buck's hand a squeeze.

“Well it’s not okay for them to disrespect the men who died, especially Curt, they knew him. He punched the one for Christ's sake.” Bucky grumbled, he didn’t feel the need to only protect Buck. He felt that he needed to make sure Curt didn’t die in vain. As Well as not letting him be forgotten. He had put Curts small lucky four leaf clover pendant on his dog tags. Curt had always slept with it under his pillow and now Bucky clutched it to go to sleep at night.

“I know, I appreciate you standing up for yourself and I. Well you know and the ones we lost.” Buck rubbed his thumb over Bucky's hand.

“Let’s lay down, yeah?” Bucky opened the door to his room and let Buck in. He just wanted to spoon Buck till they fell asleep. This time around he wouldn’t take his time with Buck for granted.

The first fan fiction and fandom that I came across was Naruto. I fell in love with Naruto and Sasuke. I had read a bunch of stories but there was this idea I had, and I kept hoping to come across it, to scratch the 'what if' that wouldn't leave me alone. Only, I never found one like the idea, so I said, 'fuck it, I'll write it myself'. So I did. My first ever Harry Potter writing was the same scenario. I had this Harry and Fred Weasley idea, and I wanted to see it, so I wrote it. Then I found Drarry and its rinse and repeat.

Improper formatting. WALLS OF TEXT. Multiple people speaking in the same paragraph. Constant and atrocious misspelling of the character's names. Your story might be great, but if I can't follow it, I'm not gonna give it a chance.

Also: people who use their tags or author's note to spit on any section of the fandom. I'm not talking about a simple "TCEST DNI" or whatever here because while I don't think those have any point, I get it. But if you follow that up with 2-3 tags/lines of how tcesters/ship enjoyers/any other group is gross and scum and should die in a fire, you've put a bad taste in my mouth and your story is already ruined for me, because it feels like continuing to read means I'm going HELL YEAH to whatever hate you're spewing. (Y'all can hate TCEST/kink/that random character all you want, I totally get it. But I'm here to read your fic, not be an awkward audience to your bitching.)

...see, this is putting me on the spot because I can't think of a single one. I'm just not the come-up-with-headcanons type. I mean-- I get a distinct impression in my head of how characters are personality-wise and how they will react to the Situations (TM) but I'm mostly drawing off canon and the things that are not strictly in canon are flavourings I tend to come up with spur of the moment and don't really think about too hard? I... do not know how to explain that better. Clearly if you read my stuff, Headcanons Are Involved, but I don't have anything concrete because to me the characters are malleable from story to story, and I tend to stick with the most plausible consistency canon will give me and add embellishments to that.

In short, I have no idea how to answer this question. This is the same as being asked what my favourite colour scheme is. Some things I just do not know, I just know while I'm implementing them in a very subconscious kind of way. (Yes, I'm not making sense. LMAO. Sorry!)

This is probably why a lot of my stories tend to be action adventure/continuations of canon and not like the deep dives that other authors do into angst and horrible emotional trauma. I'm just shallow as fuck, apparently. 8|a

ooo, neither tbh. Unless its a one-shot or a mini fic where I add a S/O or like my unpublished Uber fic where I had to add several OG characters, I don’t like adding new ones bc I think it disrupts the story a lot and I normally don’t read fics when people do that. And personally, unless it’s the ones that are supposed to be halrious and satire, I think self-inserts are kinda cringey bc most people who write them over-sexulize the characters and add weird stuff in that makes me cringe (key word: MOST not ALL) but also I just cant imagine myself dating someone let alone my comfort characters.

if you have a scene you want to write for a fic, start writing it but ONLY WRITE THE DIALOGUE. You can add who said it but I do it all the time and it gives me new ideas and gradually helps me continue a fic. It’s also easier to add detail in between when you are focused on that instead of getting to the next dialogue scene.

Probably anything to do with serial killers. Also most character deaths, sad/unhappy endings... I read fanfic to be happy. (Which is why I always promise happy endings even if there's lots of angst and sadness first! XD)
