my wwdits season 5 cross stitch is finally finished and ready to mail out to a friend! i started drafting the pattern the night this episode aired - this line hit me immediately as a summation of what the whole dang show's about.

the pattern is just hosted on stitchfiddle, but if you'd like a PDF just let me know we can figure it out. this would be a fun one to get creative with the colors, this border's begging for some juicy variegation 👀 please tag me if you do end up taking this on!

day 3 is favorite iteration/continuity and for this one, I chose idw2- controversial, but I really liked it all things considered. Decided to slap together a few of my favorite parts from the series (aka cool space stuff, the gals, and obviously cyclonus because if I ever not like cyclonus then I am dead and an imposter has taken my place)

You can create your own interpretation of what is happening but I’ll put my au details as well

I’m sure this looks like dark shadow deciding to possess Tokoyami’s corpse but I can’t imagine they would choose to continue living without him. Instead the true story is much worse.

Introducing the “Came Back Wrong” AU. Tokoyami and dark shadow were always in mutual agreement that dying wasn’t that bad because they would get to be together still and go to Valhalla or whatever. But when dark shadow is watching tokoyami actively bleed out in front of them, they suddenly change their mind. They make an impulsive decision and decide to sacrifice themself by infuse all of their dark energy with Tokoyami’s cells (this is a form of quirk evolution). It’s bad enough that dark shadow didnt survive, but unfortunately, tokoyami doesn’t seem to make it through the process entirely either.

This new creature inhabiting their body has both of their memories and a mixture of their personalities, but it’s also something entirely new. They don’t breathe and their heart doesn’t beat, they are only sustained by dark energy now. Their body can shift between a shadow and human form. They end up going by Tsukuyomi because that is familiar to both of their halves. They often come off as creepy with their unusual and shifting mannerisms.

Tsuku is probably the most perturbed by their new existence. They are grieving themself, and constantly lonely. But also happy to be so close to their other half; it’s confusing especially when their memories and feelings differ on certain subjects.

Worst of all is their friends having to mourn them too while watching this person ferrying around the living corpse of their friends. I think they would get along well with kurogiri.

I am usually a proponent of the theory that the making of Alastor’s deal is what made him disappear for seven years. But hear me out.

Alastor makes his deal pretty much immediately after he arrived in hell but NOT for more power. Imagine for a second that Alastor IS that powerful when he lands in hell. That’s not the problem. The problem is that Alastor lost one of the things he considers a key component of his sense of self when he arrived in hell: his voice. Because the character we perceive as Alastor isn’t him at all. The shadow is the real Alastor and what we see is actually a doll that he puppets around.

The reason all of his magic stems from the shadows? Well that’s just him. The little doll minions? Prototypes for Alastor’s puppet body. The stitches, the smile? Well you can’t sew a seamless doll nor can you change one’s face very easily.

So you have an Alastor new to hell and incredibly powerful but he is a radio man and shadows can’t talk so he does what everyone in hell does. He makes a deal to get his puppet life and a voice. Since it is a vessel though, it can’t hold all of his power without crumbling apart. But now maybe he doesn’t need the doll anymore. Maybe he can talk through his cane or he can make himself a new body. Well suddenly there really is no reason to have his power locked away like it is. So he is looking for the loophole he couldn’t add to the original deal. Because shadows can’t talk.
