You know I feel like the placement of Beast Yeast and Odyssey is kind of confusing for newer players, especially if they don’t really interact with the fandom and know when the stories are supposed to take place

Odyssey’s not as bad, but you unlock it after finishing Episode 12, when it only happens after Episode 14, after the Dark Cacao storyline. It’s probably not the worst thing, but if you decide to start it after Episode 12, I feel like it could be confusing as to why Dark Cacao’s there at the least, since you haven’t met him or you’ve only barely seen him if you’ve started Episode 13

But as for Beast Yeast, you unlock it after finishing Episode 8, despite it taking place after both Odyssey and probably more importantly, Episode 18. Heck, you unlock it right before the Pure Vanilla story. So I mean starting off, you might not even understand why Pure Vanilla’s there. As I recall, you don’t really know what happened to Pure Vanilla by that point and that he’s still around, we were still led to believe he’s dead, right? And then you don’t really have the full context as to why they’re in Beast Yeast, since we only get the reason at the end of Episode 18, or who the Crème Republic is that gave them the airship, and if the other Ancients are referenced later on, what the heck they’re doing there. I mean okay, it might not be incomprehensible, players can probably understand that these are story events they just haven’t seen yet, but why place unlocking it so far behind the rest of the story? Because those new players don’t have context for over half the story by this point

Yeah it’s not as confusing for us already having played the game and being there when the story updates come out, but what about newer players who don’t have that context and maybe don’t interact with the fandom that much to know what’s going on?

I’m conflicted because I tend to see a lot of people (both non-Wildchip fans and even some casual fans of the ship) complain about the only content of WB and Chip being content shipping the two of them together, and while objectively I absolutely do agree there’s been a persistent problem with boiling down WB and Chip to just their relationship w/ each other (and honestly that’s just a problem with the CRK shipping community as a whole and honestly I’d wager to guess that’s a large reason as to why so many people look at it with disdain), there’s always the monkey brain side of me that whenever I see these complaints my tunnel vision brought on by constantly scouring the Wildchip tags and being in a constant state of being starved for content kicks in and it just goes ‘:(’

Narratively Hollyberry's special event story (the dragon one) is my favorite (I adore the way Holly is written and the way she motivates people to love, care and believe). Otherwise very normal about all the bazar scenes with Chip and Wildberry in Odyssey

I'm so sorry this took so long, I've been really busy lately :(

So actually I headcanon that his berserk form is connected to his soul jam. Kind of like a little side effect. Y'know what use is a sword if not to harm others? If not to shed blood? (and also this sword hurts its owner too!) and it's the soul jam of resolution which is also dictionary definition, literally a firm decision that you're unwavering in. If Dark Cacao ever goes back on his decision to take the sword, guess what! He goes berserk until it consumes all of his life force and kills him. woo. 

He used to be able to control the berserk form a little, being able to turn partially into it to fight and stuff. He did lose the power to do so as he got older. Turning into his half-form and full form basically torturing him every time he tried to use it. It also completely removes pretty much all mental capacity for intelligent thought, so he can't use it in a "productive" way even if he wanted to. Basically just blind destruction with no distinction between friend or foe.

Personally, I have his berserk form more or less as kind of an allegory for illness, a physical manifestation of internal pain. He was making it a fuel to keep going instead of actually confronting the “bad stuff” that happened. He was taking how it hurt him and using that to keep going, instead of confronting it head-on and getting it to stop hurting him. Eventually, he couldn't keep doing this, it was destroying him and he was losing control. So now, he couldn’t use it for anything, aka, his pain isn't useful anymore. Anyway, he does still transform into his berserk form (albeit unintentionally) but only during times of extreme stress and triggers like certain sounds, textures, and tastes. It's also triggered through more physical means, if he stands too long his legs start turning to smoke, if he fights too long his eyes glow white, it's torture every time. In very special cases (Pomegranate Cookie) he goes full berserk, it usually takes him out for weeks, unable to do much, hardly able to take care of himself, much less able to make himself useful as a king or as a warrior.

Actually, after he stopped going berserk back in book 14, I think he was cut open pretty much everywhere underneath his armor. His guts were spilling out, and were barely contained by his armor. It basically cut him almost completely in half. He still managed to fight afterwards, obviously at great personal cost, but he was still able to fight. Weeks after, he could barely move, he was stuck in bed, and even small things like sitting up were a huge struggle. The only reason he's not dead is because of his soul jam, the same reason he was cursed in the first place. His immortality at the cost of eternal suffering and the like.

After book 14, he forces enough energy to attend the council of heroes (AKA Cookie Odyssey chapter 1) but the smallest things keep setting him off, turning him slightly berserk every time. He is spending every second he can lying down in his tent. It prevents his wounds from healing, and it also keeps him from thinking clearly. When he tried killing Clotted Cream the, admittedly very little, healing that was done was immediately reversed. He ended up barely functioning, with the only reason he was able to continue with the council was because Hollyberry noticed him limping and had Pure Vanilla heal him. Which only did so much, because it’s…A curse that's both caused by and stopped by his immortality, and you can't just fix that without probably killing him instantly. So, he doesn’t have a permanent solution, and he’s stuck with this until the end of time.

I am kind of curious as to what people think about this one:

Red Velvet/Dark Choco/Licorice

But more specifically, how people interpret their dynamic after Dark Choco leaves. Like, are Velvet and Licorice heartbroken? Do they understand? Or will all three go through a tragic breakup?

Btw, I'm not asking you specifically (of course, you're free to answer tho if you'd like /gen), I suppose I wanna know how people interpret them after Chapters 13 and 14.

(I have not finished watching the Odyssey storyline, so there might be some things I'm missing.)

I do know about RedChocoLico, and I have some familiarity with DarkLico, but I can’t say I have much on it. I’m not sure what people who do think about this particular scenario

Though I will say, I don’t think Odyssey sheds light on their dynamic, considering I think the Cookies of Darkness only have a brief cameo in the section. Or at least, that’s what I’ve been told, I’m not actually sure

Oh yeah, so I got to finishing Cookies in Black the other day, and I’m gonna be honest, with this and the Astronaut stinger

It feels sort of like they’re setting the next update up to be the next part of the Sugar Nova Odyssey story. Like what they did with the Schneeball/Marble Bread update and the Season 9 story

I mean it makes sense, considering next month’s November, which is the anniversary month, which from what I understand, usually has something important happen to celebrate, like the Legendary Treasure last year, or Millennial Tree Magic Candy the year before that. And they just did the Treasure, so the latter it seems to be

But also we just got Black Sugar Swan the month before this one, so I’m not entirely sure? But if not next month, then it can’t be the one after since that’s the holiday month, so it’d have to be January. Though maybe this’ll be a Special Season like with Choco Bar in March?

I don’t know, we’ll see in probably a few hours if it’ll happen or not

But in other news, the Astronuts mention a Planet Stevia, which I know from prior speculation is another sugar substitute like xylitol. So I feel it’s likely that Planet Stevia is going to be where one of the other Novas live, and a place we explore. Likely next Sugar Nova story, but it could be another one in the future
