Oof, yeah I didn't give you a whole lot to go on with the tags, did I? 😂 It was a very angsty last part, but still full of fluff and good-hearted moments. 💗 Can't wait to see what you thought of Part 9!!

Haha right? If you've ever seen the movie What's Your Number? (Chris Evans and Anna Ferris) There's a scene there I was kind of drawing from with that early morning "let me sneak out of bed before he sees my bedraggled ass" loll.

Loved that you addressed that! That was a hard subject to write around. I ended up letting Emily decide in the series that I'm currently working on. She's sixteen, after all. Old enough to make those kinds of decisions ��

Ooh yeah I had to. It was the crux of the conflict in this chapter, and I thought it was a great opportunity to create one last hurdle to overcome in this narrative.

Lol omg we're twinning again, Ursula!! 🤣 Like-minded as usual on giving the decision to Emily. 💗 I totally agree that she's old enough to decide for herself, especially considering how much she's gone through.

Emily might be my favorite character overall. Love that girl, her quotes, and the way you write her! 🫶😂

The chat she had with Carla was quite unexpected and then went as expected. I love that she spoke up and advocated for Beau, though. That took some guts, considering she's taking to the ex-wife of the man she wants to date 👀💪

Yeah I thought it was important to have that final tete-a-tete between the reader and Carla. After what the reader's been through, she's not so afraid of Carla as she might have been before. 😂 But she tried to broach this as respectfully as possible.

Ouch. Such a Carla line and kinda mean. I love the subtle hint of jealousy you can read between the lines 😆

Ooooh yeah, Carla got a bit bitchy and mean there. Definitely defensive, and a hint jealous. 😝 She thinks the reader is trying to tell her how to raise her daughter (not the case, but I could see how someone like Carla would take it that way).

Like, I said above. I made the same decision. Again, great minds think alike, Pheebs 😘

Part 9: A Choice to Make

There was a man in your bed.

You were pleased to discover that, although your kidnapping of two days ago hadn’t been a dream, being held warm and secure in someone’s arms this morning wasn’t either.

After slowly blinking awake, you looked up from a familiar freckled shoulder to find Beau’s peaceful face. His hair was a floppy mess, his mouth parted in sleep. It made you smile.

His arm was heavy around your waist. It was nice, but you contemplated how you were going to get over to the bathroom and freshen up; maybe fix your hair, brush your teeth, put a little makeup on…

You were careful in how you grasped his hand. You were about to try and peel his arm off without waking him.

“If my alarm hasn’t gone off, means it ain’t morning yet,” Beau rumbled with his eyes still closed.

You stifled a laugh, but you tried again to pull his arm away. He held you to him tighter.

“Where you think you’re goin’?” he asked. His southern drawl was thicker when he was sleepy.

You giggled lightly and rested back against his bare chest in defeat.

“Was gonna try and fix myself up a little, before you saw me in the raw light of day,” you confessed.

You’d caught a glimpse of the yellowing bruise on your cheek last night in the bathroom mirror. It wasn’t a pretty sight. You weren’t really sure how Beau could see past it.

But at your words, Beau finally cracked his eyes open. He made a show of glancing up and down your body, clad in just your black silk camisole. He couldn’t see the rest of you under the blankets, but what he did see, he liked quite a lot—aside from the parts of you that were still healing.

“You look just right to me,” he remarked, tugging at a strand of your wild, likely knotted hair. “Damn beautiful too.”

Your smile of amusement grew, along with your blush.

“Flatterer,” you accused. Though you rolled off his arm, fearing you were cutting off his circulation. You moved onto his chest instead, where he held you by your waist and you rested your head over his steady-beating heart.

“Nope. That’s the truth, darlin’,” he said, with a deep sigh. You didn’t see the way his eyes closed in contentment. He knew he’d have to get back into work today, not to mention check on Emily and Carla. For now though, he could focus on this. On you.

“Where do we go from here?” you asked. It was a mere whisper against his skin, but he heard you just fine. It was a good question.

“Eggs or pancakes?” he posed.

You smiled, but you shoved at his shoulder.

“You know what I mean,” you said wryly.

Beau’s resulting deep breath raised you as well. He nodded, brushing your hair back away from your face. You pushed up enough to look up at him.

He gave you a quirking smile.

“I want this to stick,” he admitted. “I wanna take you on a proper date and make it official.”

You smiled back at him. “I’d like that.”

“Okay,” he nodded. “We’re in agreement.”

But you didn’t realize that anything official would take more time than either of you thought.

Two weeks later, you returned to the precinct with another basket, this one full of snickerdoodle cookies for the whole squad. Poppernak was especially excited when you handed them over to him.

Beau must’ve heard your voice, because he came out of his office to greet you with a broad smile.

“Well, hey there,” he said. You went to him with a smile of your own, but you waited until he’d led you into his office by the small of your back.

Once he shut the door behind him, he pulled you close by the waist and greeted you with a proper kiss. You didn’t even mind the scratch of his beard against your chin. You just caressed his cheek and met him with as much as he gave.

But all too soon, the kiss dimmed to embers, your lips parting softly from his. He thumbed at your cheek.

“To what do I owe this little visit?” he asked.

“Nothing really,” you said. He sat on the edge of his desk, and you followed him, standing between his legs. His hand stayed comfortable on your hip. You toyed with the top button near his collar.

“Fall semester is starting up in a couple of weeks. I don’t have too much of the summer left,” you said. “I’m trying to be ready but…I don’t know.”

You were a bit nervous about it. After the ordeal of this past month, you’d started seeing a therapist to work through some of that trauma. Sometimes you had nightmares, found it hard to focus on things during the day. You worried that it would affect your work once your classes started up.

Beau knew what that thinly veiled worry in your eyes meant; you’d confided in him after your first therapy session a few days ago. He had been supportive, and even somewhat open to your suggestion that he see a professional himself, for the things he still held deep inside.

“The rocky summer’s almost over,” he encouraged, squeezing your hip. “You’re gonna do great, sweetheart.”

You thanked him with a smile, though your fingers became more gripping on his shirt.

“There is something else that’s kinda bothering me,” you said.

Beau grabbed your hand and held it. “What’s that?”

You leveled him with a knowing look.

“I’m just curious on what we’re doing exactly,” you said. “Considering you still haven’t asked me out ‘officially official.’”

Beau’s lips pressed together with a guilty sort of smile.

“Okay, yes, I’ve been working on that,” he said.

You laughed incredulously. “What’s to work on? It’s a simple question. I promise you, I have a simple answer.”

“But it’s not quite that simple,” he said. That made you pause, along with the sobered look on his face. You slipped your hand out of his and crossed your arms.

“What do you mean, Beau?” you asked.

He grasped your arms gently and let out a deep breath.

“Okay. I just talked with Carla last night,” he said.

It wasn’t a great way to kick things off if he wanted to reassure you. He seemed to know that, and so he spoke quickly.

“After everything that’s happened, she’s thinking of selling the house and taking Emily back to Houston,” he said.

Your face fell with shock. You laid a hand on his chest; to steady him or yourself, you didn’t know which.

“Oh wow,” you uttered.

“Yeah,” he nodded. He dragged a hand over his mouth. You had a feeling this news had been keeping him up at night.

But, you had to voice a thought that began to make your stomach churn with unease.

“Are you…would you move back too?” you asked.

Beau met your gaze with a conflicted one of his own.

“Besides the fact that I got a lot of ghosts in Houston, there are important reasons why I should stay. Why I want to stay,” he said. He picked up your hand again and held it with both of his. “But I also want and need to be there for my daughter.”

You nodded, even as tears burned in your eyes. You knew how hard this time was for Emily right now. What she needed was stability. She needed her father.

“I don’t know what to do here,” Beau admitted.

It was hard, but you breathed through your upset and tried to reign in your tears. You met his gaze and squeezed his hand back.

“You know what I want,” you said, “but you need to do what you think is best. Both for Emily, and for yourself.”

“That’s not an easy question to answer,” he said.

You shook your head. “It might not be, but that’s where we are.”

Your eyes fell to your joined hands, until Beau propped a finger under your chin, guiding your face back up to his. He gave you a kiss that was supposed to be sweet, and comforting.

He only succeeded for the moment.

“Oh God, it’s like I don’t even know you!” you exclaimed. Though you were still laughing.

Beau raised a finger in protest. “Hey, I stand by pineapple on pizza—”

“Alone, Dad. You stand alone,” Emily said. She had a recorder app going on her phone, placed between the three of you in your living room. This marked Episode 1 of her podcast, and already it was going off the rails.

“It ain’t that bad. That’s all I’m saying,” he laughed, holding up placating hands. “Pizza is pizza.”

“Said the human garbage disposal,” you smirked. “Where do you put that one, in your second or third stomach?”

“Nah, the fourth one,” he said, patting said stomach. “It’s got the most room. Very handy at a buffet. Or at Donno’s diner when he puts out the weekly specials.”

You laughed. Beau grinned. Emily made a face of disgust.

“Okay, gross,” she said. “Moving on to the next question.”

“How many you got there anyway?” Beau asked, reaching for the piece of paper she’d printed off with all of these “Questions for Couples.” He’d caught sight of a few spicy ones on there that he’d rather not be asked by his daughter, let alone put on record.

Emily snatched the paper away before he could take it from her.

“Okay, next. What’s the first thing you noticed about each other when you met?” she read off.

You and Beau glanced at each other with curious smiles. That was something neither of you had talked about just yet.

“How about for you?” Emily directed her question at you first. You blinked wider eyes.

“Oh! Um…” you trailed. Beau crossed his arms, adopting a sly, expectant smile. You bit your lip to avoid laughing in embarrassment.

“Okay, well, as you know, we met on that camping trip. If I remember right, I saw him from behind first,” you recalled.

“Liked what you saw, huh?” he teased. You laughed and tried not to blush in embarrassment.

“I noticed how tall he was. I wondered if a mountain man was coming to join us,” you quipped. Beau’s smile kicked up a notch. “But it wasn’t until he turned around, and I saw his handsome face…for me, it was his eyes.”

You were a bit bashful to admit that, but when you looked over at Beau, said handsome face had softened a touch. His hand snuck behind you to settle at the curve of your waist, stroking a thumb along your back.

“And for you, Dad?” Emily asked.

You shot him an expectant look. Beau cleared his throat, looking between his daughter and back to you. Then his smile returned.

“Well, I noticed right off the bat that she was beautiful, of course.”

“Good answer,” Emily nodded, laughing a little. You couldn’t help blushing.

Beau slipped his hand off your waist to come up and brush your cheek instead.

“For me though, it was her smile that did me in,” he said. “She looked up at me, and I uh…yeah. That got me. Was thinking about her for a while after Cassie and I left the camp.”

With that admission, you found yourself melting further. You looked down at your folded hands in your lap, trying to save face, but Beau wouldn’t have it. He took one of your hands in his, brought it up to his lips, and pressed a kiss over your knuckles, making your face warm up further.

Emily watched you both in amusement. She smirked at the next question listed on the page.

“Okay, who pays on dates? Is it Dad every time?” she asked.

Your expression turned dry as you glanced at Beau.

“Well, I wouldn’t know, considering we haven’t been on a real date yet,” you remarked.

Beau gave a tight smile.

“All right,” he said. “Next question, please.”

A couple of days later, you crossed paths with Carla by chance while you were getting office supplies. She was getting moving boxes. There was a stack of them in her cart.

After exchanging some painful small talk, you heeded a gut instinct that had you offering to buy her lunch. So the two of you went to a café in the same plaza, where you each had a sandwich and fries.

“Can I ask you something?” you said.

Carla smiled, taking another fry. “You mean can you ask me something uncomfortable?”

You stifled an awkward laugh. She really was a good lawyer.

“Yeah, that,” you said.

“Sure,” she replied.

You stared back at her for a moment, steeling yourself. You both knew what this was about to be. It was a conversation weeks in the making, but it didn’t make it any easier to begin.

You decided to peel off the Band-Aid.

“Do you still love him?” you asked. You knew you didn’t have to specify whom. Carla sighed and set down her iced tea.

“In a way,” she replied. “I’ll always care about Beau, and I want him to be happy, I do. This has all just been…too much.”

“I understand that,” you said.

Carla hid it well, but there was pain behind her eyes as she looked away. Your heart broke for her a bit. She’d barely been remarried a year before this hellish summer uprooted her entire life.

Now she and her daughter were living in a big empty house that was meant to be for three. Carla had just finished telling you about her plans to sell it, but that also implied that she and Emily were moving.

“Part of this is my fault, I know,” said Carla. “I’m the one who married a man like Avery—”

You gently stopped her with a hand on her wrist. You met her gaze with empathy.

“What he did, and what happened after, that wasn’t your fault,” you said. “I know what it’s like to be with a man who lies.”

It took her a moment, but Carla accepted that with a slow nod. You took your hand back, and once again, you tried to gain your courage to dive into deeper waters.

“I also understand that you have to do what you feel is right for Emily, but…”

Carla met you with a more wry tilt of her head. “Let me guess. You don’t think we should leave Montana?”

Your gaze fell. “I know it’s not really my place to say—”

“And if it was?” she countered.

Your lips pressed together. Well, if she wanted to hear your opinion, then she would have it.

“Look, Carla, I was with Emily through the worst of it,” you said. “I know very well what she’s been through. But another out-of-state move when she’d just started getting acclimated, possibly separating her from her father, is that the right call?”

“You’re assuming Beau would stay. For you?” Carla asked. Her words were pointed. Sharp enough to cut you.

“I won’t lie. I don’t want to lose him…but despite his responsibilities here as Sheriff, I suspect he might leave if you asked him to. If it was for his daughter,” you said. Letting out a breath, you looked down at your folded hands on the table. “I love Emily. I want him to do what’s right for her. But selfishly, I want him to take care of himself too.”

Carla considered that, and you, with a nod.

The two of you continued sipping your iced teas for a while in silence.

When you asked for the check, the server informed you that Carla had already paid for it.

The woman gave you a parting smile before she left. You weren’t sure if she’d done it to treat you, or just to win.

That same night, Carla invited Beau over for dinner with her and Emily. It was pizza Friday, like they used to do as a family.

It was familiar, but different now.

They all were different.

Carla asked them to join her in the living room afterwards, with Emily sitting in a lounge chair while her parents sat on the couch. Beau wasn’t sure what Carla was up to, but he was going along with it.

She took in a deep breath, folding her hands in her lap, and focused on her daughter.

“Em, I need to ask you something.”

The girl looked confused, and a little apprehensive at this point.

“O-kay…”

“I know this past month has been…hard for all of us,” said Carla. “Especially for you, sweetheart.”

She took Emily’s hand.

“You know I think it’s best that we go back to Houston,” said Carla. Emily dimmed at that, and her mother could see it. It pained Carla inside to come to a realization…

“But, I think maybe I made that decision for me, not for you,” she said. She had to blink back the sting of tears. “So, what I’m asking is, do you want to go…or do you want to stay here in Montana?”

Beau glanced over at his ex-wife in surprise. He’d never known Carla to change her mind on anything. But now, now he had hope.

He tried not to show any of that to his daughter though. This was up to her now, and he would support whatever she said next.

“R-Really? I get to choose?” Emily asked. She had the beginnings of tears in her eyes as she looked between her parents.

Carla nodded, attempting a smile through her own tears. “Yes. I, and I’m sure your father, want to do what’s best for you here. What do you want to do?”

Emily considered the question. Yeah, she missed her friends back at school in Houston. They still texted and kept in touch through social media all the time, but she knew it wasn’t the same.

She hadn’t been happy about moving to Montana at first…but after meeting Cassie and Denise, helping them with their cases—it made Emily feel like she was doing work that mattered. That something she did really, truly mattered, and would help people. That was a cool feeling.

Also, she’d met you. She’d begun to find a kind of older sister in you. Someone who encouraged her projects and her creative side without thinking it was too weird, or too annoying. And of course, she could see what you meant to her dad now.

Besides all that though, she just had this gut feeling. Like going back to Houston would be like going backwards.

Emily’s lower lip wobbled. She tried to stop it, but her emotions bubbled over.

“I like it here,” she admitted. “I…I want to stay.”

Beau welcomed his daughter over into a warm hug between them on the couch. Carla rubbed her back and nodded.

“Okay,” she said. “Then we’ll do that.”

They stayed like that for a while. Until eventually, the teen wanted to go back to editing her podcast. She was getting a hang of the editing software, and she wanted to post it online by the end of the week.

“Okay, but I want to hear the final cut before that gets released into cyberspace,” Beau called after her when she ran off into her room.

Carla shook her head and wiped her face dry.

“I still can’t believe you let her record you,” she said with a laugh.

“You and me both,” Beau admitted. If you hadn’t cajoled him into it, he probably wouldn’t have.

And the thought of you had him smiling to himself, more warmly. He’d couldn’t wait to call you…but no, this was something he should tell you in person. He turned to Carla.

“You’re sure about this? About staying?” he asked.

She nodded with a sigh. “We’ll just downsize to a smaller house. Though I will need you to keep sharing more of the custody responsibilities with Emily, presuming you’re able to get out of that trailer of yours.”

Beau wanted to argue that there was nothing wrong with his trailer (sure, it was a bit small. They’d been managing just fine). But as to not look a gift horse-in-the-mouth, all he did was nod in agreement.

“I’ll work on that,” he said.

“Thank you. Beau, I’m grateful for you,” Carla said. Her eyes were honest. “You gave me our daughter. And I’m glad you’ve gotten better, that you’ve been able to work through some of your issues. I think your girlfriend has had something to do with that.”

A smile quirked at Beau’s lips, and he nodded.

“That she has,” he said.

After his shift the following day, Beau met you at the end of your painting lesson at the local art studio. Everyone was starting to pack up their painting supplies. He managed to come up from behind and surprise you.

He tapped you on one shoulder, but appeared on your other side, pressing a kiss to your cheek. He laughed in light of your gasp.

“Hey, baby,” he greeted.

You narrowed your eyes at him in amusement.

“Hey, yourself,” you replied. “Good timing! I just finished.”

While you gathered up your supplies, Beau admired your latest painting that was still drying on the canvas. He whistled lowly.

It was a landscape of Mount Helena. There was mist near its mountain peaks, and dense trees at its base, and wide plains of green, dotted by a couple of horses ranging free.

You swiveled toward him in your chair and looked up at him with a smile. The same one that caught his eye when he met you.

“After everything, everything, I don’t regret coming here,” you said. Your voice shook a little, and your eyes shone with emotion. You stood from your seat and slipped your hand into his. “This is still the place where I got the courage to start over. And it’s where I met you.”

Beau’s face softened.

“So no matter what you decide to do,” you said, “I won’t ever regret knowing you, Beau Arlen.”

His own smile crinkled the corners of his eyes then. He swept a gentle thumb across your cheek.

“I came to tell you that Carla and Emily are staying in Montana,” he said. “So am I.”

You sucked in a trembling breath. Your tears bubbled over and fell, but his hands were there to catch them, framing your face.

“But aside from all that,” he said, with a note of humor gleaming in his eyes. “I’d really, really, like to ask you out to dinner tonight. Call it ‘officially official.’”

You laughed and smiled so bright. You nodded and let him pull you into a warm embrace. He just surprised you by hefting you into his arms next. You yelped and clung to his shoulders.

Your art instructor, as well as a couple of lesson goers remaining in the studio, clapped and whooped and laughed at the way he started carrying you towards the exit.

“Wait, wait, go back! My stuff!” you said, gesturing at your workstation.

Beau graciously backed up so you could grab your bag of paint supplies and your canvas from the easel. It was a little awkward, but you both laughed as he tried to angle you out the door of the studio. He started walking you down the sidewalk.

“Where’re you taking me? My car’s that way,” you pointed in the opposite direction.

“I believe I asked you to dinner,” said Beau, with a teasing grin. “I don’t wanna waste no time.”

You wanted to point out that your hands were stained with paint, and you weren’t dressed for a date in your jeans and plain sweater, and this wasn’t exactly what you meant by asking you out…but maybe you didn’t need a “color-coded list” for everything.

Maybe you could let yourself be a little spontaneous for once.

“Okay, Beau,” you breathed a laugh, and rested your head on his shoulder. “Take me wherever you want.”

“Oh, don’t you worry,” he said slyly. He kissed your forehead. “I’ve got plans for you.”

When he reached the passenger side of his truck, he set you down on your feet. He unlocked it and held the door open while you set down your things. You pivoted on your heel and grabbed the front of his shirt, so you could pull him down to you for a kiss.

He tasted like the promise of good days to come.

this was the song that made me fall in love like I still remember walking through the parking lot in college in the sweltering heat after another miserable lonely day trying to find my car and hearing this verse for the first time...people's go to points of emphasis with DOOM are usually the insanely intricate rhyme schemes and the characters/personas he'd perform under but in his prime he was also one of the most vivid narrators hip-hop had ever seen like he'd paint a scene and make you feel like you were right in the middle of it or experiencing it unfold via a floating terence malick ass camera or st was on par with the way people like nas or ghostface could like this first verse in strange ways is already a whole ass movie on its own and then in the second he expands the aperture to integrate what's happening on the micro level in the first verse to its global context/the war on terror seamlessly, effortlessly...and then tagging the entire thing with the tex avery clip lmfao (idk whether credit for that choice goes to him or madlib or both but it's one of the most perfectly inspired tv/film samples in all of hip-hop) that itself ties up the song's exploration of various abusive power dynamics in a hilarious but also genuinely sad way lmao and also perfectly sets up the extension of said thematic territory via the violent, hyper-misogynistic first person pov of the viktor vaughn vaudeville villain character in the next track 😱🤯

ITS NOT MY JOB TO FIGURE OUT HOW TO DO IT THO LOL) Also Carlito’s Way but mostly because I loved saying Benny Blanco from the Bronx. Does Sukiyaki Western Django count?? lol

Most overrated movie: The Hangover. I think its dumb. And not funny dumb.

Movie with the best soundtrack: Velvet Goldmine, A Life Less Ordinary, Moulin Rouge, Black Panther, Knives Out, honestly??? The star wars compilation is a really good soundtrack to work to.

Movie you can watch over and over: You throw a popcorn movie at me and I can watch it a ton of times. But usually while doing other stuff. So the entire MCU (yes even the bad ones) are really good to watch over and over. Star Wars is the same way.

The emo kid in me will never, ever die. I know this is a pretty "standard" list, but my god do all of these albums hold emotion and memories for me. Close runner ups were Paramore - Brand New Eyes, Fall Out Boy - From Under the Cork Tree, Halestorm - A Strange Case Of..., A Day to Remember - Homesick, Avril Lavigne - Let Go, and any Rise Against album.

American Idiot was my introduction to Green Day and this album changed my whole view on music and introduced me to so many bands that I'm forever thankful for. Screaming St. Jimmy and Jesus of Suburbia during the Revolution Radio tour was cathartic.

Slipknot I actually found while playing Guitar Hero 3, Before I Forget immediately hooking me by the sound alone. They're still one of my favorite bands to date and whom I've seen the most in concert. (I think 6? It'll be 7 in September!) Snuff off of All Hope Is Gone still makes me cry, no matter how many times I listen to it.

It was so, so fucking hard choosing between Three Cheers for Sweet Revenge and The Black Parade; the only reason I chose the Black Parade is because Famous Last Words will forever be one of my favorite songs of all time. Three Cheers is special to me as well, it was my intro album to MCR through MTV's Top 10 Countdowns after school (dating myself here tremendously lmao). The Ghost of You is also one of my favorite songs of all time, too, but I had the Black Parade on repeat for years. Seeing them on tour in 2022 was one of the highlights of my entire lifetime.

I sobbed the day Chester Bennington passed away, the entire commute home with their discography on blast. I still can't bring myself to listen to One More Light as a whole. It's one of my biggest regrets not seeing them live when I had the chance. I discovered Hybrid Theory first, but Meteora was an emotional attachment. I carried it around in my CD player at school for years (before iPods...again, dating myself lmfao) every day, along with Fallen. I burned through two copies of this CD from playing it so often. And so...many...Teen Titans & Naruto AMVs.

Evanescence, my beloved. Front to back, a no skip album. Whisper and Imaginary are still two of their best songs and I wish more people talked about them (no hate to Bring Me To Life, but you get it). Haunted as well.

where was their first date ?: their first date was surprisingly really cute? like i know their meeting was essentially a meet-ugly, instead of a meet-cute, since they they didn’t like each other so much. but since they ended up becoming close friends, and claudia ends up writing to him while he’s overseas, after a while raymond ends up asking her out. it’s after he gives her her first kiss and she’s so fucking shocked, but in like, the best way ever. because she never assumed he liked her and probably assumed dayting just wasn’t his thing. also when she’s younger she doesn’t want a boyfriend, not really, but then when raymond asks her if she wants to date him, they end up going for dinner and then to play laser tag and they had fun. it was during the springtime because i love the idea of them going to the park often before that. because i feel liek the park is ‘their’ place, you know? so before their first date, in a way, they had lots of friend dates.

what my muse would do to cheer your’s up: claudia makes a lot of stupid as fuck jokes to make raymond laugh when he’s feeling down. like she has no idea what he went through overseas and she knows shit all about the assassin stuff because she doesn’t know he’s an assassin. but she does know how debilitating ptsd can be so she’d want to make sure that he was fine, so she’d make him smile, she’d hold him, she’d make him his favorite foods. she’d also talk to him about nothing and everything just so he can have the company. and i feel like he returns the favor when her bipolar is acting up. because they are just really supportive and helpful with each other when it comes helping each other with their mental health issues.

who wakes the other up with kisses ( and where ) ?: raymond for sure. at first claudia was surprised by it cause he doesn't come off as a romantic at all. so when was asleep, and got woken up with kisses, she giggled and told him to stop being a fucking sap, even though she was super into it. i think at some point, when she wakes up earlier than him, she'll wake him up with kisses too. Or she'll fucking jump on him and straddle him, put her forehead to his and be like "wake up, raymond, darling…" lol

who would pour water on the other to wake them up ?: claudia sksksk he would've had to do something to piss her off the day before for her to resort to childish behavior like. i can't think of what the thing is on the top of my head, but it'd be bad. maybe it's the day after she finds out he's a vigilqnte murderer in the verse where he is and she isn't.

how my muse would wake your’s up: i said above, with kisses or by pouncing on him. but on days where she's behaving, she'll wake him up gently by getting on top of him to nuzzle him awake. he usually smirks while she does it and will try to keep from laughing. and when he does end up laughing, he'll give her lots of mouth kisses and turn her on her back so her can kiss her more.

who would start a food fight while baking or cooking ?: claudia. she's a bit childish at times and has a playful sense of humor whenever she's not working. her and raymond would be in the kitchen baking because that what claudia does after retiring from the fbi. then claudia gets this wild idea to put icing on his nose, kiss it, and then ray puts a handful on her cheek and it turns into an all out war that ends with a huge mess and them laughing so hard that they both cry. and rory eventually walks in to see what the commotion is all about sees, the message and just leaves. HES NOT HELPING CLEAN THAT SHIT UP. NO THANK BRUH

who would suggest putting marijuana in the brownies ?: oh god claudia, but only for her and group of lady friends cause raymond is a former addict.

who said i love you first and how ( or when ) did they say it ?: claudia says it first, surprisingly. the two of them are in his room, listening to some music that ray likes, and she ends up resting her head against his shoulder. the reaches for his hand - albit awkwardly - and turns up to look at him. she ends up smiling because even though he’s a bit goofy looking to others, she thinks he’s really handsome and he looks even handsomer while he’s in thought while listening to music. he catches her staring, goes “what?” and she blurts out that she loves him. she’s so embarrassed when he doesn’t say it back immediately, and almost leaves his room so she doesn’t like get teary eyed. but before she can leave, ray grabs her by her elbow and pulls her down to him, giving her a soft kiss before telling her he loved and pulling her down to him.

who would get into a physical altercation over the other ?: they both would fight for the other. like claudia will hear some bitch talking shit about ray and she’ll be ready to fucking pouce - man, woman, nonbinary - and the only person who can stop her will be raymond lmfao. she will be like so mad that anyone would even THINK to talk about her mans like that. like how could they do that - how? also ray doesn’t tolerate people talking shit about claudia either. so really people need to like keep their words to themselves when it comes to these chaotic dumbasses.

who insists on purchasing a pet together ( and what kind of pet ) ?: lol claudia. raymond doesn’t like the idea because at the time they’re like in their early twenties with a baby, and adding more responsibility to what they already have could be too much for them. but claudia assures him that she can take care of a dog and rory. he kinda of doesn’t budge on it at first, but then claudia does puppy dog eyes and pouts all day about it. does that thing where she fake cries like a brat. and like he gives in because he can’t deal with it anymore. anyways, they get the dog and ends up being a mental health dog and he’s raymond’s best friend after that. like he prefers raymond to claudia and claudia is always so fucking butt-hurt about it.

who is louder ( in and out of bed ) ?: claudia is louder in and out of bed oh lord. she honestly is such a noisy person in bed because she likes how she sounds and wants her partner to know that she’s enjoying herself. like if she’s not being noisy it’s either really emotional sex or like she’s not feeling it at all. there’s no inbetween when it comes to her tbh. like no inbetween at all. she just has no middle ground. raymond is quieter but more dominant and he actually makes some noises (like you said he does)

who would initiate dancing in the rain ?: claudia because she just enjoys the idea of it. she loves copying what she sees in the movies and i bet she saw something that made her do it. raymond gave her an odd look when she asked, but since it’s ray, he did it anyways, and ended up having a blast. i think as an anniversary gift to themselves, if it’s raining they’ll dance in it. and if it’s not, the two of them will dance in the sprinklers cause they’re fucking secretly saps. SECRETLY. Okay, not so secretly. Everyone knows how gross they are by that point. They both went from ‘don’t touch me’ to always holding onto the other always and i think it confused the shit out of the few friends that they shared between them.

who would be the one to suggest marriage ?: raymond. claudia wasn’t sure if she wanted to get married. she really liked the thought, especially, since she was pregnant with rory before they got married, but she never expected them to actually get married because ray had talked shit about marriage to her in the past. but then, one day, she was going through a bag he’d left on the ground and she found her ring while he was standing behind her and instead of saying sorry, that bitch screamed and said yes. that fool could’ve been holding a ring for a friend, but claudia didn’t give a fuck, they were getting married now. but the ring was for her so yeah.

if she could, though, she’ll own all the blue butterfly pokemon... not for the sole sake of having a practical balanced team, mind you, but for aesthetic reasons. ALSO, there was no option to input various different ones so i have to admit i cheated a little by editing those last three icons to include polar! vivillon, tundra! vivillon, and marine! vivillon. ngl, after learning she couldn’t have more than one, i was a bit annoyed. LIKE, C’MON, you cowards!! why can’t you let vivi live out her butterfly dream??

either way, i’m really tempted to make her have this team by natural default and adjust her pokemon verse, so that her trainer class is ‘Collector’. i mean, there was never a female equivalent trainer sprite, so i get people seeing Collector trainers as these stereotypical fat boys wearing glasses, but still, it’s extremely fitting for her to be one imo. )

⇢ so instead of making myself a team build like normal people do, i decided to incorporate a few headcanons about vivi’s ideal pokemon team underneath the cut! of course, that wasn’t originally part of the meme but with me, there’s no such thing as ‘low investment’ in a pokemon au, lol. feel free not to mimic me, though!

Breloom ( Portobello )

Portobello had been caught as a Shroomish in Petalburg Forest. Though sociable by nature, his habit of gossiping about his trainer, the people his trainer associates with, and the other Pokemon would irk those who are more reclusive. While contained inside his Pokeball, it can be said that he’s very observant. Like his trainer, however, he has a gluttonous streak and tends to easily get lost. Portobello’s a curious yet naive soul who has a habit of wandering off on his own when Vivian isn’t looking, which is why she would often be reluctant to release him from his Pokeball for an extended period of time. In fact, out of everyone else, Vivian tends to worry about him the most.

Steelix ( Squiggles )

An Onix that Vivian evolved through trading. Contrary to what his intimidating stature might suggest, Squiggles is actually a gentle giant that can’t bring himself to ignore trainers or Pokemon in need. He’s quick to lend a helping hand without expecting compensation. Additionally enough, he is the type to be easily emotional and cry actual tears of happiness when others are kind to him. Since Vivian is his trainer, Squiggles cares a whole lot about her. If it’s one downside he has, though, it’s that he can be rather stubborn.

Gyarados ( Nemo )

Nemo used to be one of the numerous Magikarp a fisherman had caught, but Vivian had rescued him from being minced fish meat by carrying him out of the pail; in other words, Vivian basically stole him without the fisherman ever noticing. At the time, she wanted a Gyarados and didn’t feel like catching a Magikarp herself, because she was lazy. Regardless, Nemo still thinks he owes his life to her. As far as personality goes, he’s aggressive and vulgar. When it comes to his trainer, Nemo can be prone to violence if she’s being harassed. On top of that, he does love a good battle and is the Pokemon Vivian would use most frequently.

Polar Vivillon ( Knife ), Tundra Vivillon ( Spoon ), Marine Vivillon ( Fork )

Since it’s said that Vivillon’s appearance is scattered throughout the world, Vivian would eventually come across three different types that correspond with her favourite colour: blue. Knife would be found by a spring, Spoon would be found by a meadow, and finally, Fork would be found at Allearth Forest. Of course, both were distant female cousins, but they still differed from each other in mannerisms. While Knife is the more whimsical one, Spoon happens to be calmly rational, and Fork is on the slightly shyer side to the point where around strangers, she tends to hide behind Vivian’s back.

felix is yellow, gold, orange, and brown, bc theyre warm colours like him!! the brighter colours are bc hes bright like the sun and the browns when its a more chill day, and its all down to earth and just feels like home.

Top Ten Favorite Album Covers

Okay, so I was tagged in a meme that asks you to list your top ten favorite album covers and why, so that’s what this is below the cut. Some of them aren’t even included in my favorite albums list; the reasons why they’re included will be listed in the ‘why’ parts.

1. Guns N’ Roses “Appetite For Destruction” album

This is an album that is in the list of favorites, and I think it’s been there since I was eleven years old. The reason why it’s first on this list is because of how much of an influence it’s had on my life since I was three or four years old. My mother had the album, and the first Christmas I can actually remember helping her set up the tree, this was the album playing in the background as we strung up lights and hung ornaments. I also remember my mom having a window decal of the Appetite cross in her window, and I can remember all the times I’d raise her blinds so I could stare at the little skulls and trace the outline of their shape with my finger. And I wasn’t even a hardcore fan yet, much less a casual fan.

I didn’t become an actual fan of Guns N’ Roses until I was eleven, but those are memories that have stuck with me my entire life. The album cover itself is fucking ICONIC, with other fandoms and bands copying the design many, many times throughout the years. Pretty well known fact: The second album pictured is what Appetite was originally meant to look like, but Geffen saw it going over badly, so they had the boys change it before releasing. The Appetite cross was made the cover, instead, and it’s actually based on the same tattoo Axl has on his forearm.

2. Britney Spears “Britney” album

You may ask me, “Why not the BOMT cover? Or the Oops cover?” Well, there’s many reasons. The biggest is the Britney album, her third release, was when I officially became a stan. This was also a huge shift in Britney’s career, as she went from being a bubblegum pop crusader to a more hip hop sort of sound and being a complete sex kitten.

I was fifteen when this album was released, and apart of Britney’s main demographic-- which, back then, was pre-teen and teenage girls. A lot of my friends were forced to leave Britney behind because their parents thought what she was doing was too sexual, too risque: but not my mom. My mom hated pop altogether, but she would never censor what I wanted to watch or listen to.

I adored every song on this album, and I even still have my original copy; though, since I’ve had it since fecking 2001, it tends to skip on several songs now.

3. Guns N’ Roses “Use Your Illusion I/II” album(s)

If you know me at all, you know that Use Your Illusion II is cited as my favorite album of all time: and with good reason. But seeing as both albums embody the amazingness that is Guns N’ Roses, in all their glory, I felt both should be included. (Not to mention, my all-time favorite Guns song is “Coma”, which can be found on Use Your Illusion I.)

I’m one of those fans who can imitate the Axl falsetto, and I know every Guns N’ Roses song by heart-- I even know Axl’s ad-libs by heart, every waver in his voice, every spoken word, and every growl, screech, and pant: And if you want to see something REALLY funny, play any of their albums to watch me try to imitate ALL the extra noises while also trying to sing the verses and the chorus/bridge. It’s great fun.

But the reason why both are here is because I will be quick to cite this as Guns best album(s)/best work, with deep, thought-provoking lyrics and songs you can really relate to: and so I associate both covers and their paintings with masterpieces.

4. Hole’s “Live Through This” album

I was eight years old when this album was released, and my mom was a huge rock fan: it was inevitable that she was going to buy it. At some point I overheard her listening to it, and I liked it so much that I went and snagged it from her room when she wasn’t looking one afternoon. I was shocked that a woman could have just as much fury and disdain for the world as the male rockers I so often heard, and I was mesmerized. I got my best friend at the time, Penny, into the album as well, and every weekend we could be found in my bedroom dancing along to the whole of this album, and screaming out every snarled “FUCK” at the top of our lungs because it was a WOMAN CURSING AND IT WAS COOL.

This still remains one of my favorite albums to this day, though its meaning to me has quite obviously changed over time.

5. Marilyn Manson’s “Portrait of an American Family/Smells Like Children” album(s)

First off, these are both included in my top ten list because the covers are just fucking cool. They’re also both included because these are my favorite Marilyn albums, uncontested even by Antichrist Superstar or Mechanical Animals. These are also the two albums I had the full length posters from in my room when I was a pre-teen, with the first’s poster on one of my closet doors, and the second’s poster on the wall near the door frame to my bedroom.

Both covers leave me feeling some kind of way, which is usually being hit by waves of nostalgia and urge to listen to either one, or both.

6. Alice In Chain’s “Facelift” album

This is another album that was an impressionable part of my childhood. I remember when this album cover alone used to scare the piss out of me: but I also adored just how brightly colored it was, at the same time. It was one of my mom’s favorites to listen to on the way to work, which meant that I typically heard it on the way to school. I spent my first and second grade years always getting into trouble for singing the lyrics to Man in the Box and We Die Young.

7. The original Rocky Horror Picture Show soundtrack

Over the years, there’s been a LOT of Rocky Horror official albums. It seems like a new one comes out every big anniversary -- though they still have yet to actually put BOTH Planet Schmanet Janet AND Planet Hot Dog on one of them, after over forty years.

This one, however, happens to be the original soundtrack. If you have a Rocky Horror album, this is probably the one you also have. By the time I bought this album I was well into both the movie and the stage show, but the cover itself was still every bit as strange to me as the story had been during my first (and second) watch. Even the back cover of the album is pretty memorable to me, which looks something like this:

Frankly, this is one of the absolute MUST HAVE Rocky albums to me. I have three of them: this one, the 1973 London RHS official cast recording (it looks like this), and the 1974 Roxy RHS official cast recording (looks like this). Other Rocky albums tend to come and go with me -- meaning I’ve lost them over time -- and while the 25th anniversary soundtrack is memorable to me because it was the first to FINALLY include Planet Schmanet Janet, this is one I absolutely have to keep up with.

(And I have, for the record, just as I have all of my quintessential three.)

8. Guns N’ Roses “GN’R Lies” album

For anyone who knows Guns, you probably already know that this is just the Live ?!*@ Like a Suicide demo in its first four tracks, with four others tacked on. It’s also the album that houses the popular “Patience”. A mock up of tabloids, the little short pieces are actually humorous to read, if you ever get the chance. There’s even a section that’s called, “Can Axl Help You?”, where you’re encouraged to ask Axl Rose for life advice-- a Geffen address is even given.

It simply had to make the list simply because its an album that was a big part of my growing up.

9. Danzig’s 1988 self-titled album

Y’all have no idea how much of a role this man played in my life, despite me not exactly being a fan of him. My mother was, and there’s also something else I can’t mention here: but parts of it include me having conversations with Glenn himself, one of which where he asked me, “Does your mom make you eat your vegetables?”, and my reply being a cocky, “My mama doesn’t make me eat anything I don’t wanna eat, Mister Danzig.” So yes, this one’s kind of personal to me, but it’s also not my story to tell. Make sense? No? Cool.

Danzig was one of the first concerts I went to. I think it was my mom’s way of testing the waters with me and concerts, because I started going to them at an early age. I was seven when I was brought to my first Danzig show, and I distinctly remember seeing him and his band every two years or more after that up until I was sixteen. I saw Marilyn Manson for the first time because of him, and was exposed to Marilyn as such-- same with KoЯn and Six Feet Under. The dude introduced me to some really kickass bands, because he’d always feature new metal acts on his tours.

My childhood is intertwined with this album, Lucifuge, Satan’s Child, and every other Danzig album and Misfits album in between. As a result, this is a band and a man I know without having to actually be a fan; because of this, if I’m ever freaking out about something unfamiliar, this is one of the best things to play to help me calm my nerves: and this album in particular. Just put on Soul on Fire on and give me a few minutes to stop freaking out.

10. Type O Negative’s “Bloody Kisses” album

Another album my mother introduced me to as a little kidlet, and also one of my favorite albums of all-time: this one was dodgy when I was younger, because from the very first song, this is a fucking experience. This is goth metal at its finest-- and Machine Screw is one HELL of an introduction to the band/the album. With all of the orgasmic moans and it unforgivingly launching into Christian Woman right after, a song about a religious chick being down with the thought of... I can’t even say it because I know it’s going to offend one of you motherfuckers (go listen to the song if you want to know what she’s down with, lmfao): I was sure my mom would overhear me playing this album and chew my ass out, because this wasn’t just profanities being screamed at the top of someone’s lungs, or angry lyrics. This was pure gothic sex, and Peter’s voice only further stresses that point.

Hell, I was even scared I’d get in trouble for eyeing the cover art for too long: for an album that belonged to my mother, that she’d seen before.

lol how do rp? i made an rp blog for an unrelated fandom from you but i've been way too scared to post on it or get involved

Hope this advice helps you! I’ll start with some things you should have in place before starting to RP, which might boost your confidence in actually getting started!

1. Don’t use a sideblog. It’s a pain in the ass for everyone, including you. Always make your rp blog its own separate blog. (It’s not hard to go and make yet another gmail account.)

2. Pick a username that doesn’t suck, by which i mean: make sure it’s easy to spell and not hard to remember. It’s easiest if it relates in some way to the character, and originality doesn’t matter too much. For example, my Hitch blog is @hitchisms. Avoid dashes in your username too, as tag tracking doesn’t work well with them. Here’s some other RP urls I’ve had for characters:

Basically, you don’t want anyone to be confused about whether or not you’re RPing a canon character or not, and you also want to make it easy for people to remember you even if you’re an original character. In the Pokemon fandom it got to be hard to keep track of all of the original RPers due to all of the sun/moon urls.

3. In your description be CLEAR about who you’re rping!

You should also put the tag you’re tracking in there if your url is a canon url. You can see I didn’t do that for my Gelgar blog, but sometimes it’s useful to have there. I usually list the tag I track in my rules, though.

And speaking of that, because my next point is related to this: FOR GOODNESS’ SAKE PLEASE USE A THEME THAT ISN’T HARD TO READ.

The point of RPing is to write, and the point of writing is to be read. If people can’t read your writing, what’s the point of any of this? How is RPing fun if your blog is a minefield to navigate? I grew to hate those fancy themes with random stars and shit as links because I just can’t see well enough to find them anymore–but most of the time, I know it’s not my vision that’s impaired lmao.

Aesthetic should NEVER overcast actual functional purpose. You’re there to write characters you love. You want people to be able to read your description and rule pages.

4. Make some PAGES.

This seems daunting, but it’s not that bad. Really, all you absolutely need is some kind of “about” page. Sometimes I throw other pages in there, too, though, to give people more information. And sometimes I’m just an asshole.

My muse page (which is an “about” about the character, since she would be considered my inspiration for writing and therefore a muse) is literally just this:

I suggest looking at other people’s profiles in your fandom to see if there is any kind of pattern. I personally do the same kind of profile for most of my muses:

I try to keep things short and sweet in the sense that there is a lot of information on the profile page, but it’s not, you know, anything I describe with a lot of text. At the bottom of this (you can read the full page at my Anabel blog link up there), I include a “brief history” or rough outline of a history.

You also kind of need a rules page. If you don’t have one, people may not want to follow you, but you have options: you can keep it simple or you can be elaborate!

Shorter is probably better, but I implore you to be honest with yourself and include things there that may be a problem. As you can see above, I had to include warnings for content that my Hitch blog could run into. It’s better to be safe than to accidentally hurt someone. My Gelgar blog always had a very short set of rules because I started RPing him for fun and didn’t feel that I needed to be selective about who I RP’d with.

I usually break up my rules pages into various categories just to break up the text. A lot of general rules apply across most RP communities but it doesn’t hurt to be clear about it.

Now, the rest is really up to you. As you can see from my above “pages” images, I like having a few different kinds of pages.

Verses aren’t always things I include; it really depends on the character. For Akane, I wanted the option to be able to RP at any point in her career that I wanted to, so I made two verses: one where she’s still a newbie, and one that takes place after the newbieness of season one came to a close. As you can see from the text below, I was considering adding a possible enforcer verse: probably an idea I cooked up with @daantooine.

Relationships pages aren’t strictly necessary. Anabel doesn’t have one because she has so few canonical interactions that I mostly included her information in her profile page. Someone from SnK, however, probably will have many (even if casual) connections in the military and it’s useful for other RPers to kind of see how your character may currently view theirs.

As it says at the top of this page, though, relationships may change; my Gelgar had a very different relationship with two very different interpretations of Lynne! His relationship with Auruo and Hange were both based 100% on RP interactions I had with other RPers; we established a rapport and I drew from that.

Lastly, I think a page I enjoy having that others may not? Threads.

This makes it easy for you to re-read your RPs if you want to. I’ll admit, it can be a pain to remember to add things to the list, but it is worth it if you get really attached to character interaction (as I did with this particular Lynne). Thanks @hairjel! Rest in pieces @momtaku.

5. Make sure everything is updated how you like it: your muse page, about pages, headcanons, rules. If you use icons, have them ready to go. (No bigger than 100x100 for heaven’s sake.) Decide on a posting format.

Tiny text? Bolded dialogue? Fancy lettering? It doesn’t have to be fancy. My Gelgar threads never were formatted much.

Here are my Hitch threads and one from my Anabel blog, too.

In recent years I started using small text & bolding the dialogue. It sounds silly, but it makes it easy for another RPer to respond to the dialogue portion. It’s not always the most important part, but during a conversation it’s awkward if something doesn’t get responded to. Some RPers in the Pokémon fandom quite liked it and also adopted it!

6. Cutting posts. This is important because threads get long and ugly as they get reblogged. There’s an x-kit extension called Editable Reblogs that lets you cut out previous replies to the RP, leaving you with the above format so that when you type in a tag for the thread/chrono, it shows them all in chronological order and you can read straight through with no repeated bits!

7. Tagging. Always tag your posts with the other RPers url. everything else is up to you, but from my tags pages (on Hitch in particular) you can get an idea of the kinds of tags I use. Just remember that consistency is key.

From this point forward it’s all about networking and throwing yourself into the mix. Find other RPers, creep on their blogs, find out people you might like to RP with, and when you feel your blog is ready, follow them. Typically when someone followed me, I’d go check out their blog. Some people require you to send in passwords to prove you’ve read the rules, so be aware of that. That seems to be a very fandom-dependent thing, though, so it’s not prevalent in all fandoms.

Once you’ve followed all your blogs, or at least a few, make a “promo.” Here’s a link to a bunch I reblogged on my Anabel! In the Pokémon fandom, promos tend to be short, and many of them just use one icon. Having a promo allows people to kind of “network” your blog–pass it around to encourage other people to follow you/interact with you.

After this, most people do a “starter call” which is essentially just a post like this:

Most people put an icon in there, but since I don’t typically use icons, I didn’t use one here.

Making a starter call does put the pressure on you to start a thread and fling your writing out there, but it’s less daunting if you have other examples of your writing floating around: for example, the about/muse page we talked about earlier.

If you had the chance to do something illegal and get away with it, would you? this entirely depends on what the illegal thing is? like, would i ever cause a person bodily harm? probably not. something less insane and petty? probably. like if i knew i could steal a tv and get away with it, i probably would.

What do you do to calm down? i listen to music and sit in my room. i light candles. im big into aroma therapy and so i tend to always have lavender or vanilla scents in my space. i pet my cat and make him sit with me. purring kitties lower my anxiety like, a lot. other times i take a bath. 7) Describe your ideal date(?) i’m adding the question mark to pretend this is a question somewhere we can talk - theres a place in NYC thats a bar but also an arcade filled with old old games like the original tekken and street fighter. i like going there for chill vibes and then likely walking along the water pier in central park at sunset. its really quiet in that part of the city and on a date i really just want to talk, get to know you, figure out your energy. if its the weekend id happily head to the IFC center for a midnight showing of a classic and then depart at 3AM feeling like ive actually connected with someone who challenges me intellectually and culturally

HEADCANON / RANT : MC.U VS. 616 CLINT

clint u. absolute buffoon. u difficult boy. u total garbage man. listen i wont go in too long of a rant ( edit: oops nvm ) but one thing that just. really really upsets me about the mc.u’s treatment of clint is. how much they just completely nerfed his personality. in the movies he’s??? complacent and quiet and follow’s orders and brooding and is just. A Good Soldier, and so bLAND when that’s litERALLY THE Opposite of him.

he’s witty and he doesn’t shut up and he’s so sardonic, and jaded, and exhausted!! he’s morally grey!! he’s terrible at following authority!! he respect’s steve but literally gets in fights with him aLL THE TIME. he naturally wants to lead, like look at west-coast avengers! and sure as he develops he’ll try more but he caaaan’t follow orders well. and the mc.u literally took anyway any of the?? wonderfully human, depth-granting flaws that he had.

what’s his flaw in the movies?????? they shoe-horned moral ambiguity into like five minutes of the final movie and that was it? whenever someone asks me my favorite avenger / super hero i . always always say hawkeye and people 99% of the time give me a look and go ‘why?? he’s so boring??’ and im like i knOW MC.U HIM IS BUT YOU DON’T UNDERSTAnd asdfasdf and if the MC.U is all you know I don’t blame you at all this isn’t?? me attacking people for not knowing comics it’s me screaming at the movies for taking this wonderful, relatable, absolute mess of a character who tries to be good anyway despite all his flaws and just going. ‘uh we need a sixth avenger but we cant have it be spiderman yet so lets??? use this hawkguye person but not actually read anything about his character lmfao’

I remember when I first started reading hawkeye comics what. really made me fall inlove w/ m.att frac.tion is that in an interview he refered to clint as something like “the human embodiment of an on fire garbage can with a heart of gold” and that has always stuck with me!! because he’s not just. some quiet serious soldier like the MC.U portrays him as and that’s why he’s a hero, no! he actively chooses to try and be good now, and it’s a struggle he has to continue with all the time! yes he has a soft heart and it’s one of gold but he comes from a difficult, abusive, dangerous childhood and so he’s been punished and hurt so many times and he could just turn totally rogue and angry and destructive ( which he. has. a few times ) he’s made so many mistakes but he keeps on trying.

and that’s just !! the bad parts!! what about the good?? like he sees a hurt dog in the street and literally just throws money at a hospital until they promise to save him and is. so so distressed about it. how he literally can’t turn away someone in need of help, how he tries so hard to pull himself together just to be a good enough mentor to kate even tho he’s... such a mess. how he defeats mafia in his neighborhood literally just so that the people living in his building can have a moer peaceful life

anyway this all started bc i was. looking through the tags of some of his ?? Romantic interests ( b.obbi, n.at, jes.sica ) and i was. screaming inside bc I want to ship them and I do but he’s such a mess lmao that he’s just. screwed some of these up so bad. like him and jess had a lot of potential but he’s . just so bad at commitment. him and b.obbi have had. sO MUCH HAPPEN TO THEM that at this point is it like?? can they even trust again??

and dont get me started him and n.at have gone through so much and done so much and it hasn’t all been good but for like just a minute some of it has been?? so so lovely and even through the bad they just?? some comics always manage to make me feel like they’re absolutely meant for each other ( others are like. they’re not gonna work romantically. and i respect that. comic multi-verse is so large it’s intimidating but also so ?? good for exploring so many topics and relationships ) but also it makes me soft bc I’m?? a super multi-ship person and i also just?? adore them together platonically because they make such incredible friends?? they really understand certain parts of each other in a way no one else can because they just know each other so well and?? I love that even if they don’t work out in a romantic relationship they’ll always be so close and !! clint will always love her platonically because they’re. just. such good friends.

and don’t even get me sTARTED PART 2. on the friendship between kate and clint, they mean the absolute world to me and it’s really like he lost his way and is spiraling but she makes him want to be a better person bc in a way she’s looking up to him and depending on him ( though he. really depends on her so much more even though he’s the mentor ) and he tries, and makes mistakes, and tries again and they fight but they forgive each other and they work together and!!
