Fun story. When I was actively being stalked (both online and IRL), I contacted the police exactly one time. I showed them the physical notes that had been left under the wiper blade on my car after I blocked the man on social media. I showed them the previous Facebook messages this man had sent me that described, in detail, what he wanted to do to me.

The police said they couldn’t help me because the man had not actually physically done any of those things to me. He’d just talked about his desires. They even made excuses for him. He’s awkward. He’s lonely. You’re pretty. It’s a compliment.

So friendly reminder that when a man with a record and weapons makes verbal/written threats against a woman, there’s nothing police can do.

But when a frustrated woman being denied medical coverage with no record and no weapons makes a “verbal threat” against a corporation, she’s arrested immediately.

I was giving CPR to a friend whose head me and my friends could not find.

Like, she was a body without a head, but it looked like the head was never there to begin with.

Still, we knew it was supposed to be there so we kept on searching for it so we could reattach it, with no luck.

We looked for it everywhere in the sand.

It took me like 30 minutes to realize my mouth-to-mouth was not working since there was no mouth on the other side.

We never did find the head, but I did manage to restart my friend's heart.

I was weirdly blasé about it all.

It was not gorey at all, just unsettling.

The final TF2 issue really got to me. Spoilers, but it’s the reveal that all of this suffering and murder and war over gravel and shitty land was for nothing but senseless, bottomless hatred. That the administrator can’t even remember where this revenge plot started as she flashes through different false memories of her parents’ deaths. There was never a tragic backstory or justification, only terrible people doing despicable things. And despite how crass and stupid and unserious TF2 is, the story subverts every expectation by showing the survivors and inheritors willingly breaking the cycle. Ms. Pauling lies to the administrator and chooses not to save her, and finally lets her die. (Hurts even more if you read into the subtext that Ms. Pauling is in love with the administrator.) She lets the final cache of Australium go and walks away from the burden and legacy of a century-old bloodfeud. Hale lets Gray’s daughter go and live her life freely. Spy is the first to arrive at Scout’s house and meet his big family, finally takes off his mask, and helps with the kids. Even Merasmus exhaustedly makes peace with himself and Soldier and chooses not to curse him or something. There’s nothing to finish, no promises to keep, and no one to avenge. The only thing to do is break the cycle and walk away.

It feels odd how happy and warm everything is, but it feels so right and earned. These bloodthirsty, awful, violent men were expendable cogs in a machine of endless violence, and they found a way out. It’s a genuinely great message about letting go the past that burdens you and finding the will and a way to hit the bricks, change, and be happy. Maybe they don’t technically deserve happiness, but they’ve got it nonetheless, and they’re not gonna let it go to waste. They’re still all crazy and violent, but on their own terms now and with people who love them! Smiles.

Actually, I think that homophobes in Congress wanted to find a way to criminalize being gay well before a twink got fucked on camera in a Senate hearing room and the video was released to conservative media as an act of revenge porn because the staffer in question told a genocidal and homophobic congressman “Free Palestine” to his face.

There are rapists on the US Supreme Court and I’m supposed to clutch my pearls over two men having consensual sex in the Senate? Oh! Heavens to Betsy! The first time sex acts have been committed in a government building! Are the shades of Congress to be thus polluted?

But, for the record, no amount of sanitizing your sex life or sanding down of your LGBT edges will make bigots accept you. So, don’t debase yourself by capitulating an inch to them, especially in ways that throw your fellow community members under the bus.

So. No matter what happens, I'll still be here making daily good news posts. Once the final results are called I'll stop with the election psas completely and go back to doing what I'm here to do. No more PSAs and no bad news.

This fucking sucks. But no matter what, there are people doing good in the world. There are people making progress. There are people who care so much.

If you can't hold onto hope, I don't blame you. And I'll still be here to keep putting little pieces of it in front of you.

The US isn't the center of the world, however outsized and violent its power may be. There are other countries and there are people within this country who are doing good, important things. So, I'll get a lot more international for a while, I suppose.
