Doing a face inspo for Mai sounds fun! She definitely has the most distinctive face of all the young, female characters in the show. It's very strong, sharp and high fashion... So sharp it could puncture the hull of an Empire-class Fire Nation battleship...

Her face is also very interesting because her facial proportions are very similar to pre-Meiji Japanese beauty ideals, before their standards became more Westernized. She's got features that you see in most Ukiyo-e (浮世絵) paintings of women: Slim face, narrow eyes, long nose, and pale skin.

This is also why the Kyoshi Warrior look--- which is heavily inspired by traditional Japanese theatre--- suits her so well.

When I was little, about five or six, I wanted a dog. On the way there, though, I changed my mind and said I wanted a cat. Something about mom saying I can't change my mind like that, I can't really recall it correctly (memory issues) and I'm going by what she told me.

When we got there, we saw a little kitten that was getting picked on by other cats. A little tortoise shell cat. We felt bad for her and we got her, thus making my first pet a cat.

She was born sick. If we wanted her to have kittens herself, she wouldn't be able to without some kinda issues (i.e. her dying).

You wanna know what we did though?

We loved her. We loved her to fucking pieces for the nine years we had her. Yeah she became more and more grouchy over the years with her little fat self, but she was loved. It broke my heart when she passed away.

If I were to get another pet at any point, and I see a cat who's just like that, or blind or deaf or doesn't have all four legs or anything else that seems "less adoptable" to other people, guess what?

I'd get that one every single time. If I had my first cat show up the way she was before she died, grouchy and grumpy as hell, I'd grab that one in a heartbeat.

I dunno why I just went on about my first cat on a post like this, but pets like that are just as perfect to me as any other pet who aren't grouchy or deaf or anything else.

I'm just gonna stop before I go on for eternity and make myself cry even more lol

This was meant to be a quick warm up, but it turned into a comic that I’ve wanted to draw for a while. This is something that is extremely important to me, and I appreciate it if you read it.

A while ago, I heard a story that broke my heart. A family went a cat shelter to adopt. The daughter fell in love with a 3-legged cat. The father straight up said “absolutely not”. Because he was missing a leg. That cat was that close to having a family that loved him, but the missing leg held him back. Why?!

Many people have the initial instinct of “nope” when they see an imperfect animal. I get it, but less-adoptable does NOT mean less loveable. 9 out of 10 people will choose a kitten over an adult cat. And those 10% that would get an adult cat often overlook “different” animals.

All I want people to do is be open to the idea of having a “different” pet in their lives. Choose the pet that you fall in love with, but at least give all of them a fair shot at winning your heart.

Don’t dismiss them, they deserve a loving home just as much as any other cat. They still purr, they still love a warm lap, they still play, they still love you. Trust me, next time you are in the market for a new kitty, just go over to that one cat that’s missing an eye and see what he’s all about!

Hello, I was wondering: what may be the most popular choices of weapons for non benders in the Earth Kingdom?

In general, I think archery would be popular among benders of all nations, since they're capable of getting a lethal shot in before the bender even realizes they're being attacked. Hence why the Yuyan Archers are such a threat.

I think heavy, blunt force weapons would be especially popular with the Earth Kingdom's non-benders, as they have the best chance of deflecting an earthbending attack. Examples:

War Hammer / Mace (Chui / 锤)

Meteor Hammers / Double-Headed Flail (Liúxīng Chuí / 流星錘)

Whip Chain / Iron Whip (Tiěbiān / 鐵鞭)

Metal Club (Kanabo / 金砕棒) - For Kyoshi Island.
