I have mentioned in my previous post how everyone related to the biological bat family is Jewish, but I need to talk a moment about Damian Wayne's aunts.
Because this boy has 5 Jewish aunts. And not just from Bruce's side.
Let's review them, alright?
1. One of the most famous out of them, Kate Kane aka Batwoman. The Jewish icon and Bruce's cousin. (Once removed or-something still counts!)
2. Beth Kane or Red Alice, Kate's twin. She's his aunt as well, the same as Kate.
3. Bette Kane, aka flamebird, another cousin of Bruce. Also shares the same Jewish blood.
Just wait, now is the more interesting part I've been waiting for:
4. Nyssa Raatco. (Very different from the Arrowverse version).
Talia's older sister. Daughter of Ra's Al Ghul and her Jewish mom. A badass Jewish Arab assassin, and one of my favorite Jewish aunts of Damian.
And the last one might be more controversial, because I know she's *technically* not family but still
Harey Quinn is the 5 Jewish aunt of Damian I'LL DIE DEFENDING IT.
My source?
AUNTIE QUINN!?!!
DC fans don't get mad at me I know Harley is not batfamily I just think she's an aunt figure to Damian. She's not part of the whole batfam, she's his aunt exclusively. She's Damian's fifth Jewish aunt fight me.
Yap I'll see myself out 🚪←🏃

I would like to clarify two al Ghul family members that people often seem to mix up:
Nyssa Raatko, also known as Nyssa al Ghul: daughter of Ra’s al Ghul, older half sister to Talia. She figured out how to make Lazarus Pits reusable, and she killed Ra’s in Batman: Death and the Maidens, then took over the League of Assassins for a while.
Nyssa in Batgirl Vol. 1 #68
Daughter of Acheron: Ra’s al Ghul’s half sister, Talia and Nyssa’s half-aunt. She’s the one Ra’s sent to attempt to get pregnant from Tim in Red Robin. We don’t know much about her, but she is decidedly NOT Nyssa.
Daughter of Acheron in Red Robin #24
Red Robin #25
#nyssa raatko#tim drake#red robin (2009)#daughter of acheron#al ghul family#it’s totally fair ppl mix them up because daughter of Acheron is kind of a nobody in terms of. appearing anywhere else.#but I’m a stickler for details and they are solidly different characters. nyssa doesn’t like Ra’s enough to just. obey him like that#nyssa al ghul#ra’s al ghul#heroesriseandfall#dc ref#batgirl (2000)

the other things i like about the arkhamverse are nyssa raatko and that one generic criminal who rates every experience against 'waitin' for food drops in arkham city'

Annual reminder that dc is full of Jewish characters and writers including in their mainstream comics
Batman, Batwoman, Harley Quinn, Hal Jordan, Ray Palmer, Felicity Smoak, and Nyssa Raatko (one of Ra’s Al-Ghul’s daughters)
That isn’t even all of them either, most of them are ethnically Jewish and not religiously but it still makes them Jewish either way

How do you feel about Damien’s Mom Talia Al Ghul? Because some people said she’s a victim of bad racist writing and she’s had a bad portrayal in the animated movies. Is Talia really just victim of bad writing or she’s actually a horrible mother/person? I’m just confused because when I read the comics about Talia and the bad things she did and I just assumed that’s was part of her character because she’s a morally questionable villain of course she’s not a “good civilian person.” I knew DC is a dark adult comic book series and I already expected going in that the villain characters like Talia would committed terrible/horrible actions against the heroes. Like for example when she drugged Bruce and took advantage of him, I was slightly shocked but wasn’t surprised. Cuz to me this was the dark stuff DC was known for doing.
Alrighty, so the answer is a little bit of both!
TW for sexual assault mentions, miscarriage, parental abuse, etc.
There's a TL;DR ("too long, didn't read" summary) under the cut if you don't wanna read my report which is pretty awesome and was fun to write.
So, nobody seems to be able to agree on who Talia is at her core, and that's generally par for the course for a comic book character with multiple writers. She's been around since 1971, so that's already 52 years! And like Greek myth, there's just a lot of different interpretations of the character.
Let's get to the nitty gritty before we talk history. In 2006, writer Grant Morrison established that Talia drugged and raped Bruce, conceiving their son Damian (and also for some reason adding a whole unnecessary "artificial womb" thing? I don't get it either). However, this is based off the fact, which Morrison later admitted, that they misremembered the story they based the Batman and Son arc off of, and later comic arcs (in 2012 and 2014) would retcon the incident as consensual. Put a pin in this.
Talia was originally more of a damsel in distress slash prize for Bruce. Remember, this was the 70s. Her main deal is being the daughter of Ra's al Ghul and thus if Batman marries her, he becomes the heir, which Ra's wants. Despite not wanting to succeed Ra's, Bruce and Talia do share romantic attraction and Ra's considers them married. Then, later on, they do actually marry and she gets pregnant, and then Talia realizes that Bruce will always be in danger having to protect her and their child, so she fakes a miscarriage and they dissolve their marriage. She gives the child to an orphanage, and he is given the name Ibn al Xu'ffasch, or "son of the bat". This is the story arc Morrison adapted later.
Talia was kinda badass in the period before 2006, where she was sort of an anti-villain. She breaks out and starts having her own self after Ra's engages her to Bane whom she despises. She, under the name Talia Head, runs LexCorp as CEO while Lex Luthor is President of the United States, and basically not only tips Superman off about all his plans, but sells LexCorp's shares to Wayne Enterprises leaving Lex functionally penniless. Then she gets brainwashed and basically evil-fied by her half-sister Nyssa Raatko who literally kills her over and over, resurrecting her each time in the Lazarus Pit as an extreme form of torture and reprogramming. She usually does more evil shit after this like joining leagues of supervillains and such. However, her motives of helping Jason Todd recover and train are usually ascribed to her love for Bruce and not wanting Jason to kill him.
Then after 2006 she goes full tilt crazy ex girlfriend and murders people, trained Selina Kyle to resist any and all psychological coercion to reveal Bruce's identity, and PLANTS A DEVICE IN DAMIAN'S SPINE THAT LETS HER CONTROL HIS BODY, and reveals that she's started cloning him because she thinks he's too weak and disowns him.
Then comes the New 52 (the part where DC did a reboot to make everybody darker and "more realistic" that absolutely nobody liked, so it started in 2011 and then DC did another reboot in 2016 to make it better) and Talia is just off the wall completely evil. Genocide, cloning Damian, killing Damian, being resurrected, then fighting an ancient alien cult and claiming she's redeemed, then literally rejoining the League of Assassins moments later.
Incidentally, apparently Grant Morrison wrote Bruce, Talia, and Damian from their own experiences as a child of divorce, which is just... wow. Like... that's just a lot to unpack there, but we're just gonna step past it.
As of the DC Rebirth reboot, Talia is more or less sort of back to being anti-villain, still yes a killer, but also more emotionally open and supportive of her son and back to trying for true redemption.
Let's take, as I usually try to do, the sum total of these experiences and from other sources and try to average it out.
Unfortunately, despite the retconning, a lot of people now still see Talia's rape of Bruce as canon. I did too for the longest time, and honestly, although it makes Talia despicable and completely irredeemable in a very visceral way, it also does allow for interesting dynamics for Bruce and Damian, the batfam and Talia, Bruce in general, and allows there to be discussion for the tragically underconsidered circumstance for female-on-male sexual assault, and by having Batman, who is often used by hypermasculine dudebros for their weird ideals of stoic toxic masculinity be a victim, and be vulnerable, and go through this could be a deeply powerful arc that nobody in comics really wants to touch. It does however, deprive us of an interesting and nuanced Talia and instead catapults her right into mustache-twirling evil.
Ultimately, Talia is the daughter and heir of Ra's al Ghul. She sees no problem murdering people, and in fact she usually shares her father's genocidal ambitions of culling much of the human race to help preserve the planet. Ra's boils down to an ecoterrorist and genocidal maniac, and Talia his henchman, though when she does strike out on her own, I can't quite get a handle on her motivations. She does tout a desire for "equality and peace" but there's really no standard she gives for what this means, so I can't really see if she's just crazy or if she has good intentions.
I think, even at her best, Talia is a perfectionist and is very strict, intent on Damian being who she wants him to be. I think she has very little empathy or compassion for others, although parts of her, at her best, regret this and she tries to grow. At her worst, she is irredeemably evil, and at her best she is... morally shady to the point of never really being able to be thought of as a good guy.
I can't speak to whether or not racism plays a part in her portrayal either as mustache twirling villain or whatever. I don't know that it's necessarily bad writing because I don't know if Talia was ever intended to not be a horrible person or morally ambiguous, apart from the early days when she was mainly a figure to be pursued by Batman. When it comes down to it, adding sexual assault to her list of crimes is not going to change much because she's a mass murderer, an ecoterrorist, an abusive mother any way you slice it because she's training her child as an assassin, and generally just not great. A fascinating character, yes, but a terrible person.
TL;DR: Talia al Ghul is a terrible person in general, but the Big Incident you refer to has been retconned and is based off a poorly-remembered story. However, considering she's a mass murderer, assassin, eco-terrorist, and also let's face it classist villain, she's still not great even if you remove that from her rap sheet. She's done some cool stuff like putting Lex Luthor in his place and that one Elseworlds story where she left Bruce and gave her son to an orphanage to protect him, but otherwise, once she was made her own character and not just a love-interest-of-the-week, Talia has been morally ambiguous at best and irredeemable at worst. I can't say if it's racist or not because I don't know the motivations in her writing, but I don't know that it's necessarily bad writing to make her unsympathetically evil.

Batfam Fancast Part 13: The Al Ghuls
Oh baby my first request! @callmekohaii asked and they shall recieve.
The eternal Al Ghuls. Ra's,Talia,Dusan,Nyssa and Damian. For centuries this family has affected the world in more ways then we will ever know. Integral to the League of Assassins this family are known to be pompous and pretentious aristocrats. So who will be these immortal individuals?
Before we go any further we do have a major conflict to resolve. That problem is the ethnicity of the family. When potrayed before they had rather problematic castings, however the very concept of these characters are problematic in of themselves. Being Middle Eastern aristocratic type people that create conflict based on personal extremist ideals. Similar to the Drake family I have to be careful with how I elaborate and edit on these characters stories and must be thoughtful with how I want to portray these characters without stepping on anyone's toes.
I also have to remember to cast people that aren't completely Americanized, unlike most of the Batfamily who are all east coast American besides Alfred. Actors who are of Middle Eastern or Asian descent seem to be my best bet and have some actors be mixed as well.
Ra's Al Ghul
The leader of the League of Assassins, the Demon's Head, Grandpappy Stabby Stab. The figurehead of the family, Ra's Al Ghul is a legendary DC character, a well-known Batman villain that can keep up with the likes of Batman. Obsessed with destroying the world to remake in his own image he will do anything and everything for his goals, but still hold himself to degree of honor. However he is hypocritical holding onto old ideals that won't have him accept more liberal ideas. He still respects people of similar status though. Even seeing the like Bruce Wayne and Tim Drake as potential successors. Yet still forgoes someone like his Son or Daughters as successors no matter their enthusiasm for it.
There is only one actor that can covers all the things needed for this character and has been with him for over a decade. Oded Fehr has been voicing Ra's Al Ghul for Young Justice since 2011. He is 52 years old, has experience with action thanks to the Mummy movies and is Israeli. He is by far the best choice for this mastermind.
Nyssa Raatko
Nyssa Raatko also known as Nyssa al Ghul is the oldest known daughter of Ra's and half-sister to Talia. She was born early 18th and disassociates herself from her father sometime in the early 20th century. She has lived through WW2, her family she had were victims of the Nazis concentration camps. Even when she begged for help her father did nothing leaving her there. This left her spiteful and out for revenge.
Unlike canon a major change I'm going to make is the WW2 backstory, instead of a Nazi Concentration Camp, It's a Japanese prison in the Philippines. They tried to escape to the Philippines till the war spread there, her husband and sons dying after the "Bataan Death March" and Nyssa becoming one of the many women who are victims of the Japanese, becoming a Comfort Woman. Her evolution post WW2 however is to have her path of vengeance though violence changed into kindness... with violence. Using the generations of wealth she had acquired she becomes an icon of peace to the public, helping third world countries develop, using her sect of League Assassins to kill whoever stops her development, no matter their morals or even compassionate actions. She accidently becomes the very thing she wished to not associate with.
For Nyssa I need an actress who is most likely more mixed compared to Ra's, living in Southeast Asia. She doesn't have to be white and has to be active enough to do some to little fighting.
Elodie Yung is the only actress I thought of. She's the only half asian actress with martial arts training and enough experience in both action and acting. You might remember her as Elektra in Daredevil and as the main character in The Cleaning Lady.
Dusan Al Ghul
The tragic Dusan Al Ghul son of Ra's Al Ghul. A disappointment to his father's eyes he would do anything for his respect, even rising through the ranks under the guise of the White Ghost. He also albino for some reason. I think instead of him being Albino I want to emphasize him being an unintended child. Using those old ideals the Al Ghul's follow he is a bastard in his eyes, it's not just Ra's Al Ghul but the whole family that shuns him.Think Jon Snow or Gendry from Game of Thrones. Decades of longing lead to Dusan's obsessive drive for his family's love.
Joe Taslim has been nothing but delight finding international stardom thanks to The Raid:Redemption and later the HBO/Cinemax show Warrior. Staring in one of the best contemporary action films and martial arts drama, he is perfect to play this bastard son.
Talia Al Ghul
Daughter of the Demon and Mother to Damian, she is a main stay when it come to the Al Ghuls, a master manipulator like her father she later commanded the organization known as Leviathan. From villain to ally, then back to villain it's hard to say where her true loyalty will stand. She sees her methods as absolute and only the most stubborn of personalities could ever change her mind. Not even her own son persuade her, even willing to kill her own son for her own ambitions.
Many of the castings are rather difficult, yet this was a rather easy character to make. Known for her work in the show The Boys and as the character Farah Karim in Call of Duty Claudia Doumit is a Austrailian actress of Lebenese descent. Her prolific filmography has shown she is more than capable of playing this popular anti villain.
Damian Wayne
The newest Robin and biological son of Batman Damian Wayne is DC current wannabe shonen protaganist. He's a great character when writers remember that League of Assassin training means nothing when you fight beside the people who beat them constantly.
Brutal, short-tempered, and looking to be accepted, his assassin upbringing has left many holes in his ability to socialize in modern society. Unable to relate to anybody besides the more upscale aristocratic part of the world. He wishes to grow up so fast only to forget that growing up is part of the process. A major change I want to address is his upbringing, I want to emphasize the brutally conservative nature of the League of Assassins and the cycle of abuse his family continues to use. By embracing his father's side of the family he learns to forge his own identity and unlike many writers right now, learns that he does not want to be Batman and luckily has Brothers willing to carry that weight for him.
Another major character dynamic I want to switch is between Tim Drake and Dick Grayson. I want the antagonistic nature between him and Tim to go from rivals to family, with Tim filling in as the Big Brother role. Dick being the oldest needs to fill the mentor role, especially since he is the Batman to his Robin. By Dick having the more begrudging frenemy nature allows for them to grow as master and student. Think of Damian as Ahsoka Tano with Tim and Dick as Anakin and Obi-Wan during the Clone Wars. Damian grows on you as a character while the other two are more established and likable. You can even fit Drake and Josh on here with Damian as Megan.
Boy have I seen some terrible fancast for this boi. Like I hate all of them, why you casting 20 something you heathens? IMDB, Google, the damn Disney Channel. Can you not find 1 non white child actor? Gordon Cormier is a 13 year old Filipino Canadian actor who is going to play Aang in the Avatar The Last Airbender live action adaption. He is the only actor who can fit all the criteria that I have put for this character. I have scoured the globe and no one in his age bracket will work besides him. If this young man can play Aang, he can play Damian Wayne.

Welcome to the DC Comics JewShowdown!
In which 32 Jewish DC characters (the ones who matter) will battle it out in a who-can-eat-the-most-maror-without-water competition. Or just vote for your favorite ig
(Don't try to zoom in on this thing, I'll be listing off the contestants here, the quality in this is awful, and I stretched the pics out so far to fit the frame so they're plain ugly)
I'll be starting off with 16 matches (Oh fuck) and progress from there. Here are the starting matches:
Albert Rothstein Vs. Alice Cohen II Barbara Gordon/Batgirl (DC Super Hero Girls TV Series) Vs. Barry Allen (DCEU) Benjamin Gruener/Reaper I Vs. Bruce Wayne Cissie King-Jones/Arrowette (formerly) Vs. Michael Schorr Dan Dreiberg/Nite Owl (Watchmen) Vs. Wesley Dodds/Sandman I Beth Kane/Alice Vs. Eric Cohen Eric Strauss Vs. Frieda Goren Gim Allon Vs. Booster Gold/Michael Carter (ignore my typo in the image) Green Lantern (Hal Jordan) Vs. Jesus of Nazareth (New Earth) Harleen Quinzel Vs. Jonathan Osterman (Watchmen) Katherine Kane Vs. Morris Edelstein/Morgan Edge (Earth-One) Miriam Bätzel/Miri Marvel (DC Bombshells) Vs. Moyshe Nakhman Myndi Mayer Vs. Nyssa Raatko Rachel Goldman/Sublime (Wildstorm) Vs. Rory Regan Sebastian Ives Vs. Ursula Zandt (Watchmen) Willow Zimmerman Vs. Zatanna Zatara (DC Bombshells)
This will be split into 4 rounds each divided in two (hence the two sides), and a final round. there's gonna be a day to vote for each poll, and you can find all of them in the #DC Jewish tournament tag. Starting with Round 1A, the first 8 matches I'll post all in one batch, and so on (I think it'll be clearer once I post them) I. I'll post the entirety of round 1A once this post reaches 10 notes bc I'm anxious and I need to know there is an audience, and 10 notes in enough for me. I'll post round 1B once the voting for round 1A will be closed, and do the same for the rest.
some explanations for some characters that might not seem like they fit here: All but three characters here were listed as Jews (I am Jewish, I can say that) in the DC Database category page and I've made sure there's a source to that (DCEU Barry calling himself a Jewish Boy, DC Superhero Girls Babs being in a Happy Hanukka post from the show's account, etc). The three characters that weren't are Bruce Wayne (Jewish by association with Kate Kane bc her writers don't know how Judaism works and once made her dad Jewish which would make his sister, Bruce's mom Jewish and make him Jewish), Booster Gold (confirmed to be Jewish by Jeff Katz, a Booster Gold writer, on Twitter) and Cissie King-Jones (I decided she's Jewish, and it's my poll, so shut up), and I have explanations for them all.
Enjoy!

Phantom and the Super Sons
Here’s my fic for Crossover Danuary Week, day six! DP x Any Comic Super Sons ( @amorpho )
Summary: In the aftermath of being mind-controlled and forced to kill countless people with his powers, Danny is recovering in the infirmary at the Hall of Justice. The heroes all insist he's not to blame for what Nyssa Raatko made him do, but he's having trouble internalizing it, even after weeks. Just as his boredom is starting to overcome his guilty conscious, Robin and Superboy come to break him out and take him to their secret base, the Fortress of Attitude.
[Sequel to the DP x DC fic I wrote for Crossover Danuary Week 2022, but that one was super dark so if you don’t want to read it, I included a non-graphic summary of it in the end notes of this fic so you can have the necessary context.]
Rated T, implied/referenced torture and mind-control, past character death, past child abuse, and some violence

The Grandson of Ra's al Ghul: Arrowverse Fanfiction

This is the story of the grandson of Ra's al Ghul, and he is not who you think he is. A story of an OC of mine and some more OC's.
