World War I.

Anthony J. Crowley leaves to fight in France. After a year, he is wounded and ends up in the infirmary. There he meets the field doctor Aziraphale Fell, who heals his wounds and somehow manages to warm his heart. He falls in love with him, but he's unable to tell him anything. So, every night in the trenches - when it rains water, fire or mud - he writes letters. Letters and letters that will never arrive.

The war becomes more and more violent, as do his feelings. He steals Aziraphale's fountain pen, then his photograph from the infirmary tent. He puts it in his wallet, to keep it close to his heart.

Each day he advances on the battlefield, he vows to deliver those letters to Aziraphale's caring and gentle hands, but each time he returns, he fails to keep his oath.

One day, the last time he sees the sun touch the ground, he loses his life. In his last moments, the only thing he cares about is not letting blood stain Aziraphale's photograph.

The last thing he sees, just before drifting off to eternal sleep, is Aziraphale's smile.

Two days later, a corporal reaches the medical tent and hands Aziraphale Crowley's last item.

Crowley always thought his love was unrequited, but Aziraphale fell in love with him too, a year earlier, the first time he saw Crowley, playing with a stray kitten and a tender smile.

That's what happens when I rewatch 1917, War Horse and All Quiet on the Western Front all in one day.

3.He also stole Aziraphale's photograph (it's the last thing he saw).

4. Once it's returned to him (together with the letters) Aziraphale sees behind his photo, Crowley's last promise. The one he couldn't keep.

5. Crowley always thought his love was one-sided.

6. But Aziraphale actually fell for him first, after seeing him playing with a cat, a long time before.

As I sit here in the cold embrace of this ditch, the distant echoes of battle remind me of how fleeting moments are. Each day feels like a cruel gift, and yet your sight warms me against the chill. I find solace in thoughts of your gentle hards, the way they skillfully mend wounds while my heart aches for a different kind of healing.

You may never know the depth of my devotion admiration, how your laughter dances through my mind like sunlight breaking through storm clouds.

Sydari is primarily an archer (funny how Josh goes for that sort aye?) where as Josh is best at melee combat with some close ranged magic thrown in for good measure. Sydari makes up for Joshi's piss poor long distance vision whereas Josh takes on larger opponents almost to the point where it's a problem. The two work best in this configuration. Also Josh just...kinda obsesses over showing off to his partners. During a dragon fight, Josh usually gets right in the beast's face whilst Sydari hits it with precise shots and the odd shout if her throat can handle it. He's still amazed by how she can devour the thing's life force. 💌 | a love note from one to the other

That's basically what You is about. Long extended love notes (POV musings) between characters. An important aspect of Sydari's character is that she gained literacy skills very late. There was a month-long period where the two officially split where Sydari dictates a letter to Josh (currently writing this You chapter) that Josh doesn't receive until the two run into each other by accident. It explains why she was upset and how she knows she overreacted by telling him to disappear. The chapter The World Eater's Eyrie is after a six-year separation. I'll post a snippet here vvv.

You were sitting on the edge of the circular pond that surrounded the structure. The waters were a strange, almost greenish black that reminded me of the oil used in Dwemeri machines. Pots of the greasy stuff that you used to have strewn across the floor of my armoury, which you had commandeered into a workshop for yourself as you messed with that old Dwemer device. You were talking about cracking their communications network or something to that effect. Getting that machine to work was an obsession of yours.

I called out to you, neglecting to consider just how quickly that would destroy my voice again. I didn’t care, all I wanted was for you to see that I was here.

You looked up from whatever it was you had been doing, I think you’d been drawing at the time. The stone and the people working on it…or I had figured that’s what you were doing when I flicked through your journals as you held me in your arms on the beach that night.

You had dropped it in the ash as I approached. The setting sun cast a golden hue onto your ashen skin. It brought an intensity to your eyes that I had missed. That rich crimson that always seemed to have a spark in it…even during your worst days.

💌 - What would a love letter from your f/o look like?

jacks has two modes… love letter where it’s him putting up a front and trying to sound cool (giving an expensive gift with a note or something like that…), and love letter where he got drunk & wrote a sonnet abt chrysi that lost the plot halfway through, but when jacks woke up, he decided it was good enough & he wrote a silly, dumb little post-script that calls back to their childhood. the sonnet always winds up on the fridge and he always screams abt it. it was MEANT to be PRIVATE!!!!!!!!!!!!

🍷 - What was your first date like? 

the nature of them is that they never seem to have a first date.. it’s always a romantic friendship that slowly blurs the lines more and more… truly the lyrics “best friends, ex-friends to the end, better off as lovers, and not the other way around”…

atm, the au where i have the most definitive “first date” is the babysitter’s a vampire au. after azure and castor left, and after chrysi finally healed from her bite wounds / blood loss / vampire venom, jacks decided to celebrate (and take their minds off of what they’d both gone through) by preparing a picnic in a sunny field together. they’re both alive, they can both enjoy the sunlight, and they like each other. that’s enough for both of them. ((chrysi still couldn’t move around much, bc she was still weak, so jacks wound up carrying her back to the car after the end of their date… then they went home and watched movies while curled up together <33))

YEAAAAASSS, chrysijacks cat parents REAL. well, mostly chrysi brings home a new cat and jacks is like, “well. this is a new roommate, i guess, since you won’t take it back, huh?” correct to assume as much!!! currently, they have three cats (i’m thinking of making it four…). one is a grey tabby, one’s a calico, and the other is still in development.. might jst be an orange kitty. but they have cats and jacks can’t do anything abt it. fortunately, he likes them too <3

🎃 - What Halloween costumes would you and your f/o wear? Do you match?

bc of chrysi’s Thing w halloween, she always dresses up as something she’s been / is, so generally she dresses up as a cheerleader!! i think that jacks would get her a varsity jacket that says “heartbreaker” on the back as his own way of playing her game.. + it would be oversized, so it’s an adequately “boyfriend-sized” jacket :))

jacks would match her halloween outfit exactly one (1) time… but he’s too much of a peacock, so after that, he tends to dress up as something unrelated.. but it would be fun if he kept to chrysi’s color scheme!! so if he were to dress up as a court jester (since chrysi’s his princess 🫶🏻), it would be red and black as well!

chrysijacks movie dates are always of horror movies, and jacks is always hiding his face in the crook of chrysi’s neck.. he’s always like “ahah, no, it’s fine!! i rlly like cuddling during horror movies!!” but he jst puts chrysi on his lap so he doesn’t have to see the screen. coward. it’s okay though, chrysi’s kissing him or whatever.

Traditionally she would say she'd look for someone kind, loving and compassionate and in theory that still holds. I can imagine her saying that when someone asks and Vincent just starts cracking up nearby. She does believe in it! Shed say thats what happened with the two of them, because it makes it more fairytale-esque and romantic.

💗 GROWING HEART - if they have a crush, is it noticable? what changes when they're in love?

Jilly with a crush is even more excitable around them, laughs more and then gets embarrassed about her laugh, blushes more at innuendos or sex jokes though she doesnt usually, likely to flee from interactions w them bcs it makes her scared gdfgdfgdfgh. Jilly in love is much more affectionate and clingy and likely to talk about her beloved frequently, much to her friends dismay. Less self conscious once she has a lover!

-All of them? Physical touch is a big one, she's major touch starved and wants to hug/ be held, hold hands, cuddle up to and sit on her lover. Giver of many smooches. That's her big one but she also loves giving gifts, spending a lot of time with someone and receiving words of affirmation.

And I love it :< I love how you gave Gojo something special from Utahime and how he could've had a letter from Uta in high school too but fate came and he wasnt able to put it in her locker but if he was able to, then their story must have gone way different and I think him receiving a notebook from her decades just before he proposes is a lot better than how Uta's relationship with geto, nanami, and shoko became.

I also love how this line from geto must have pushed Gojo to who he is today.
