kaori doesn't keep bodies in the basement. there are no shrines to eldritch gods, no altars to sacrifice unwilling victims upon. but there is a death certificate, the clothes she died in. and there are the souls of sorcerers wrapped in talismans, waiting to be implanted into their new hosts.
kenjaku is comfortable planning well in advance, the best outcomes often come out of an excess of preparedness.
just look at yuji.
"shhh," she whispers, kissing the top of his head and closing the door with her foot as she turns both of them away from the entrance to the basement. "it's okay. mama just wants to make sure you don't fall and get hurt in the dark."
her little miracle is deposited onto the kitchen counter softly, kaori immediately crouching to take yuji's little hand in hers and pepper it with kisses. he's going to be a handful, she knows, but he's also going to be stronger than he could ever imagine.
the perfect child, the perfect host.
"you're too little still, but i promise one day i'll tell you all about the things at the bottom of the stairs." with a grin, she pinches his nose. "all those boring papers and old pieces of furniture that mama and daddy can't let go of."
