This was the last place Dani wanted to be, after all, she'd left the relationship for a reason. A shitty reason, but a reason nonetheless. She'd felt like her and Rhys were getting too serious, and she was too afraid that he'd be interested in taking the next step and propose, so she left. She probably should have reached out and explained herself, and she absolutely should have reached out when she'd taken the pregnancy test and it was positive and she definitely should've reached out when she'd made the wild decision to keep the baby. But no, she'd never reached out any of those times she should have.

Instead she'd been raising their child Raelynn by herself, and doing a pretty damn decent job if she did say so herself. But at 3 years old, Rae had started asking about her dad, and like a cruel twist of fate, Dani was planning a wedding back in the town that Rhys still lived. Rather than accidentally run into him, she figured it was better to meet him on her own terms, despite how desperately she didn't want to. The hand that wasn't holding Raelynn's knocked on the door, and she silently prayed for no answer, but she wasn't so lucky as the door opened. God, how was it possible that he looked even better than he had when they were together.

Her lower lip instantly darted between her teeth. "Uh, hey Rhys..." she started, not able to get much more out than that before the little brunette at her feet was peeking out behind her legs. "Who are you?" she piped up.

The brunette chuckled softly at his response, her head nodding as she ran a hand through her hair. It wasn't like she'd had some sort of epiphany about love, she'd just sort of fallen into it and found it was something she was rather good at. She was surprisingly skilled at selling others a dream she no longer believed in. "Yeah, I know." she agreed. "But it makes good money, so." she offered with a small shrug. A fuller laugh left Dani at his question, her head shaking. "Absolutely not. Me loving a good cow or chicken is definitely something that hasn't changed." she assured through her chuckles.

She had been the first and last long term relationship he'd had. After their breakup, Daniel had just assumed that he was doomed to walk in his father's footsteps. He'd heard it often enough from his mother. Just like your fucking father. Things ending with Dani had just solidified something he already believed. He was meant to be alone. An eyebrow lifted slightly. "No shit? Huh...can't say I saw that one coming." She hadn't seemed like much of a believer in fairytales towards the end either. Part of that, he was sure, was his fault. Maybe that had changed. Maybe she'd met someone who made her believe again. "That depends. You're not a vegan or vegetarian are you?"

What's crazy is that Barristan has the character development that people pretend Jaime has but because he supports Dany and doesn't spend all of his page time talking/thinking about how evil Targaryens are, it gets ignored

Starter for @missautumn based on: planning a celebrity wedding and whoops we actually know each other, how has it been so long, and where did this chemistry come from?

Despite the fact that Dani had done a few celebrity weddings, it was still a surprise to her anytime she got contracted to do one. Sure, she knew she was good at what she did, but oftentimes she was excellent at selling herself short in her talents. Still, somehow she had the knack for managing petty immature celebrities who wanted all their love dreams to come true, and so here she was.

The brunette steeled herself with a deep breath, the first time meeting the couple was always one of the most important. Sure, even though she had the job, it was key that the people actually getting married liked her as well. As she walked over, a forced, yet effortless looking smile on her lips, it dipped slightly when the groom turned around and her brows furrowed slightly, grateful he seemed to be alone for a moment as recognition crossed her features. She hadn't seen him in years. "Wait...this is your wedding?"

The fact that Dani was in a relationship was a surprise in itself considering she didn't think love was something worth pursuing in the first place, but Dustin's persistence had worn down all her defenses and much to her own surprise, she was happy. But now this, this stupid test, this stupid positive test. She felt physically ill, and she was sure that it wasn't just due to the hormones. They had agreed they didn't want kids; she wasn't interested in fucking up another human the way her parents had her. Yet, here she was. She'd gone out to grocery shop to get her mind off it, returning she called out to the male, though she stopped dead when she noticed the test she'd discarded in his hand. Her mouth opened and closed without any words uttered before she opened again. "Uh, n-no. It's - it's mine." She'd only taken it a few hours ago, she hadn't even had time to properly process yet, let alone consider how she was going to tell Dustin. "I just found out..." she offered, not wanting him to think it was a secret she'd been sitting on for more than the last few hours.

This was the last time he’d go digging in the trash, even if he thought he had dropped something. The trash wasn’t a good place for a pregnancy test regardless, so maybe it wasn’t really his fault. Still, he couldn’t help but stare at it until he heard her voice, tightening his grip as he went to meet her. A few feet away, he stopped, waiving the stick so she knew he had found it. “One of your friends, are they pregnant?” He could only hope.

I think what bugs me the most about the type of analysis that is common in this fandom is that sometimes people are obsessed with not actually looking at choices being made by characters and instead try to project extra-textual symbolism/parallels they pulled out of thin air or use essentialist arguments to predict a certain character’s trajectory. There is already a weird tendency to blame bloodlines instead of institutions, oppressive/destructive social constructs/systems, and abusive cycles. This series repeatedly deconstructs bio essentialist ideas in a multitude of ways. Characters being viewed as monsters for the way they are born is a concept that is repeatedly torn down. There is a combination of nature & nurture at play with these characters, I admit, but it is nuanced. Your environment and your nature are in constant conversation with each other. Certain environmental factors will worsen certain attributes, while repress others etc. Your blood is not evil, nor is it pure, it just is, and your nature will be affected by your rearing, tragedies you face, and the environment you live in. Monsters are created and developed, not born. This whole concept is apparent with all the siblings in the series. Dany & Viserys are drastically different people, and make different choices despite having similar experiences and the same blood. Same can be said for Joff, Myrcella, and Tommen. Another very good example are the Lannister siblings. The twins’ idea of “one soul in two bodies” is deconstructed, and they are faced with how dissimilar they actually are. All three siblings have differences in nature, as revealed by their behavior as young children & their current values and motivations, and they are all shaped very differently by their environment. Cersei is affected by the oppressive system of the patriarchy, Jaime by the trauma due to the violent construct of knighthood, and Tyrion by the rampant ableism of the world around him. Tywin also shapes them by giving each of them their own flavor of parental abuse based on the role he wants them to play in his legacy. It is so apparent just how these characters became what they are, and how they navigate their world as a result of a nuanced combination of nature and nurturer. But in the end, it comes down to choices that they keep making. Characters on the right path can also falter sometimes, weigh their values wrong, and make bad decisions at certain points. Not to mention how thoughts and words do not speak as much as actions and actual choices that are made do. You all take bio essentialist arguments that some characters in the text make at face value, even when it is obviously bullshit. Any analysis that hinges entirely on “this character is the son/daughter of this character”, or “this thing on the surface parallels this other thing from something I read/watched”, “this character is a dragon. Dragons plant no trees”, “this character is a monster”, “this character is from this house”, “this character is related to this character” etc instead of actually looking at what said characters do or try to do is gonna lead to unconvincing arguments that are antithetical to one of the main ideas that this series is built on. To me it feels like these books are communicating that in spite of your birth, your origin, your trauma, your prophecies, etc it is primarily your choices that lead you to where you are and the legacy that you create. Cersei’s prophecy will come true as a result of the choices she makes. Dany’s many prophecies are also as a result of choices she makes, she was not just gifted with everything that she has achieved, she is an active agent who makes choices that push her a certain direction. This is also why it is weird when everybody wants to make characters have a predetermined trajectory solely based on “what” they are, or who they are related to.

Not only does George say this in interviews, it is an explicit thesis statement in the text itself:

This is the concluding statement of Jaime’s ASoS arc. Like “The things I do for love”, “So many vows...”, and “The heroes […] the best and the worst, and those who were a bit of both”, as extremely relevant it is to him in specific, it is a major thesis statement for the series as whole, and overlaps with many characters, just like how other characters also have a bunch of these overlapping arc theses. So can we please primarily look at the choices characters make and what ultimately motivated them to make these choices rather than thinking their ending and what they “are” as characters is set in stone because of the reasons mentioned. I feel like how you all engage with some of these characters contradicts the deconstruction of this kind of essentialism that is so apparent in these books.

She listened as he spoke and another laugh left her lips as she nodded. "Now see, that's exactly where I had put you before they out voted me." she teased, watching as he shivered dramatically. It seemed almost unfair, how easily they were able to pick things up as though no time had passed between them. It made her wonder why he hadn't reached out sooner, or rather, why she hadn't let herself do any reaching out either. Dani chuckled as he looked down at himself as though he didn't quite believe her compliment.

The brunette shook her head slightly, "Hey now, you already got the compliment, don't fish for more." she joked, scrunching her nose up at him teasingly. He noticed the photographer before she did, so when he moved closer it took her a moment to adjust, and she did her best to put her practiced smile onto her lips for the photo. It was like when he was that close, it was easy for the door with all of her old memories of them to unlock and flood her mind, and right now, she would've preferred to keep it closed, or at least, she thought she did. His question pulled her from her thoughts and she shook her head instantly. "Oh, uh no." She wasn't about to launch into how she hardly dated, how he was one of the last people she'd actually been able to see herself with. Instead she returned the question. "What about you? Did you take advantage of the plus one on the invite?"

He couldn't deny that it felt good to hear her laugh, especially when he was the cause of it. Was it really that easy? All of this anxiety in his head and then the moment he got around her it felt as easy as breathing. "Yeah they kind of enhance each other's deviousness if that's even a word. But I'm not complaining at all, better than being seated next to Jeremy's cousins. No matter how old we get they still act like we're 15 and I would like to get drunk tonight without wedgies or wet Willy's." He shivered at the thought and took a sip of his drink.

"You think?" He looked at himself and smiled. "I'm glad you think so. I bought a new suit for this. Can't be the reason the photos don't come out nice." As he said it, the photographer came around to take a photo of the table and Clark leaned in closer to Dani as the picture was taken. He did his best to stay still, slightly affected by the familiarity of her scent and all the memories it brought up for him. He wondered if she thought about those times as much as he did. Clark shook himself out of his daydreams though as he pulled away and went back to his drink. "So uh, no date? Or did they just not make the cut to make it as a wedding date?"

I want you guys to understand that Viserys and Dany, in the mind of Robert and Stannis, were kind of ok. They were left with carers in a non-Valyrian affiliated city, a host that could use them well even! Marriage into the Iron Bank? Educating them as anti-slavers? Both of these were not only possible but the most likely. And if not, merchants of which there are several would no doubt treat them well to get royal blood on their lines. When Dany gets married to Drogo, they picture Viserys using his sister as a power grab, it is weird to marry your sister off so young, but they picture her educated and dowagered.

And this would have been their lives if Doran was not so cautious that he left them uncared for with a sick man who did not understand Essos politics at all. Not blaming the man wholly, though his inaction keeps leaving the ones under his care unprotected more than once, it was a tragedy of errors on many different fronts but. Never did they imagine a former prince would end so low. Much less his baby sister. I don't think they could have legally helped if they could even they were outside their kingdom?

Hi ! I have question, not too sensitive I hope...since this is a very pro Aegon III blog, could you explain to me why you love him so much ?

I've always struggled to love/understand the character, like yes, he seems nice overall, he's pretty and quiet (though the beautiful melancholic ones have never done it for me *looking at you Rhaegar*), he went through lots of trauma, and his relationship with Daenaera is cute, but nevertheless i've always found Viserys II and even Jace more pleasant and competent.

Like what i love about the most about Aegon III is that he's the son of Rhaenyra and Daemon, but that's not exactly a personality trait (well, it could be considering his parents, but you know what i mean).

Maybe there's something I'm missing about him (or maybe I'm just not receptive to this kind of character), so could you pretty please explain to me what is so great about him so that I might hopefully start to enjoy him as much as you do ? :)

I would like to start by saying that I don't really see the point in trying to convince anyone to like X or Y character. I certainly hope that people have enough of their own opinion to go by that and not by what someone else thinks or what by others like.

What is the problem of you not linking Aegon III?

I personally see none. I would also argue that you don't have to like Aegon III just because he was Daemon and Rhaenyra's son. For instance I like Corlys and Rhaenys yet their children are as bland as oatmeal and have 0 personality. I won't like them only because of who their parents are, much less make up traits and a personality George couldn't be bothered to give them.

We don't have to like every character. I myself have many that do nothing for me - many from Daemon and Rhaenyra's line - and that I struggle to understand what others might like about them. We are all different and to each their own. I am a firm believer that as long as we stay in our lanes, don't make sh:t up to try and prove a point (headcanons are not the same as canon), and don't harass anyone over their tastes, we don't owe anyone an explanation about why we like or don't like a character.

Now, as to why I like Aegon III, and what I think is so great about him, I believe canon explains itself much better than my own simple words could. I could transcribe everything written, however, since my time is limited and it has been over a month since my last update, I will give you three quotes, spoken by Aegon III himself that not only prove that he was very much Daemon and Rhaenyra's son, but also his own person, one with empathy, and with a little bit of light and fire left to him, even after all the darkness he endured. That an a tiny scene that people sleep on ;) this was a boy every inch worthy of being named after Aegon the Conqueror.

Just as a small note, none of this is to make you like him, it is intended to answer the question of what makes me like him and I think these quotes and the small moment speak for themselves. Alas, I am biased.

"I shall," King Aegon said. "You are sitting in my chair." (Fire and Blood, pg. 704)

"There will be no progress," the king declared, as he was seated. "I will not spend a year upon a horse, sleeping in strange beds and trading empty courtesies with drunken lords, half of whom would gladly see me dead if it gained them a groat. If any man requires word with me, he will find me on the Iron Throne." (Fire and Blood, pg. 704)

"I mean to give the smallfolk peace and food and justice. If that will not suffice to win their love, let Mushroom make a progress. Or perhaps we might send a dancing bear. Someone once told me that the commons love nothing half as much as dancing bears. You may call a halt to this feast tonight as well. Send the lords home to their own keeps and give food to the hungry. Full bellies and dancing bears shall be my policy." (Fire and Blood, pg. 704)

It wasn't Dani's job to get Caleb to marry Victoria, she knew that, all she needed to do was plan the blonde woman's fairytale wedding, which would've been easier with his help, sure, but she didn't need him. Which begged the question, why she kept trying to get him to participate when she knew he wouldn't. Maybe a part of her did just like spending time with him, but she wasn't ready to admit that to herself just yet. The brunette's brows rose slightly at his offer. She couldn't deny, it did sound fun, though her lips twisted in mock thought for a moment before she let out a slow sigh. "Decide on a cake flavor, make an actual choice." she started. "And then I'll go for a ride with you." she countered.

avoiding responsibilities was his specialty. truthfully, he had no plans to go through with this marriage he just hadn't quite figured a way out of it. making victoria hate him was proving to be more difficult than he had imagined, considering she ended up obsessed with him. sleeping with the cute wedding planner might help though. as she rose without taking his hand, he still offered a flash of a smile before dropping his own hand. "we could just go for a ride on my bike, see what catches our interest along the way. c'mon, you know you wanna." by no means was caleb a planner, but he was looking forward to heading elsewhere and taking her along for the ride.

"so, do you know how long you're sticking around for?" dani asked as she finished making breakfast for the two of them. the town was small enough that they rarely had any new faces around, and she couldn't help but be drawn to them the minute they walked into the gym. it was almost like she was pulled right away, plus seeing her throw a punch at one of the creepy regulars was just the cherry on top of it all. things moved a little faster than she thought they should have but she hadn't felt this great for the longest time. as she slid the omelet onto a plate, she set it down in front of them and went to grab some coffee before sitting down herself. "there's not too much shit to do here anyway." she said with a shrug. she wouldn't be surprised if she was only here for a bit before trying to find somewhere a bit more exciting to go to. "but if you stick around for a little bit, you're more than welcome to come and hangout at the gym whenever you want." she said with a chuckle.

“You don’t know my brother. He’s always doing some stupid shit. Damn miracle that he ain’t dead yet,” he says. “Dumbass is too stubborn to die.”

The image of Johnnie suddenly flashes in his mind – worse off than he’s ever been after any brawl or crash, torn up face covered in blood and black and barely awake enough to throw up what little was left in his stomach in a half-brained attempt to stop an overdose – and brief levity is gone. They had all played fast and loose with death. Johnnie treated it like a game more often than not, because everything was a damn game to him. At least one he was good at playing. But that…that was too close. That was way too damn close. This wasn’t a nasty bike crash or a fight gone sour. That was an execution, one he had no right living through with how much shit he had in his system. To say it’s a miracle he’s alive is an understatement. There ain’t too many people out there that can survive getting black-brained. Dale ain’t anything in way of a believer, but he thanks whatever god or devil that decided to give his brother the luck he has.

He clears his throat, forcing the image out of his mind and focusing on the present.

“Planned on coming out here to take care of them myself, but, uh,” he gestures to the blazing pile. “You beat me to the punch.”

The guy hums. but doesn’t bother looking up from whatever he’s fiddling with in his hand.

“You didn’t have to do that,” he says eventually. “I don’t know your brother.”

“Guessed that much. But still- you saved me the trouble of dealing with that myself. Thought if I couldn’t at least buy you a drink, saving your sorry ass ain’t a half bad fill-in.”

“You didn’t-” he cut himself off with a sharp exhale, the sudden resolve dying out just as fast as it appeared. He rubs at his injured leg, and only chokes out a quiet, “Ok.”
