I know what you mean, I blinked and now I'm ready to turn 28 years old, it's insanity really. I don't have my children but I am newly engaged and thinking about whether or not I want to be the one to plan everything or not. I do want t freeze time too but I want to keep enjoying it and see what lies ahead for me and the future. Oh my, that does sound like a stressful day so I would've been right there crying with you.
Tumblr media
Anyone else used to think that time was passing by too slow? I blinked and somehow I'm in my 30s with two toddlers, wondering why there aren't enough hours in the day to get everything done. Now time can't slow down at all it seems. There are some moments I want to freeze forever, but others that I will happily let whirl by. One of those being the time that my youngest daughter threw up while her older sister dumped her breakfast on the floor. I think we all cried that day. @hfrpstarters

Sun-Kissed and Serene: Dakota Johnson Makes a Splash in Malibu
Tumblr media
Sunshine, sand, and good company – Dakota Johnson kicked off summer in style with a fun-filled beach day in Malibu. The 34-year-old actress showcased her radiant energy as she hit the shore alongside her good friend Jeremy Allen White, his adorable daughters Ezer and Dolores, and another companion. Opting for a relaxed hairstyle, her hair flowed freely in the ocean breeze. Jeremy, sporting white swim trunks, doted on his daughters, whom he shares with his former partner Addison Timlin. The joy on Johnson's face was undeniable as she embraced the beauty of the beach. Playful laughter filled the air as she dashed through the waves, taking a refreshing dip in the ocean. Later, with her hair damp from the saltwater, she continued to soak up the sun and enjoy the company. This beach escape comes amidst a busy promotional period for Johnson's latest film, "Daddio." The movie explores an unexpected conversation between a taxi driver, played by the legendary Sean Penn, and a young woman, portrayed by Johnson, who takes a cab ride back to her Manhattan apartment after arriving at JFK International Airport. "Daddio" is slated for release on June 28th. The Malibu outing also follows recent reports surrounding Johnson's personal life, specifically her rumored split and subsequent reconciliation with musician Chris Martin. Let's delve into her career path, highlighting her rise to fame and her current foray into more diverse roles. Born into a Hollywood family (daughter of actors Don Johnson and Melanie Griffith), Johnson's early exposure to the industry sparked her own acting aspirations. She made her debut at a young age, appearing in her stepfather Antonio Banderas' directed film "Crazy in Alabama" (1999). However, her family encouraged her to focus on education before pursuing acting full-time. Johnson's career gained momentum in the late 2000s with supporting roles in films like "Beastly" (2011) and "21 Jump Street" (2012). The turning point arrived in 2015 with the controversial erotic drama "Fifty Shades of Grey." The film catapulted Johnson to international fame, albeit with mixed critical reception Despite the success of "Fifty Shades," Johnson actively sought roles that showcased her versatility as an actress. She gravitated towards independent films, appearing in critically acclaimed projects like "Black Mass" (2015) and "A Bigger Splash" (2015). These films allowed her to explore darker and more complex characters, establishing her ability to go beyond the persona created in "Fifty Shades." Johnson demonstrated her comedic timing in films like "How to Be Single" (2016) and the charming coming-of-age story "The Peanut Butter Falcon" (2019). She also ventured into horror with the chilling "Suspiria" (2018), a remake of the classic giallo film. In recent years, Johnson has continued to choose projects that challenge her. She starred in the psychological drama "The Lost Daughter" (2021) and the critically acclaimed romantic comedy "Cha Cha Real Smooth" (2022), which she also produced under her company TeaTime Pictures. This move into producing underscores her desire to be involved not just in front of the camera, but behind the scenes as well. Dakota Johnson's career trajectory is a testament to her dedication to her craft. By actively seeking diverse roles and venturing into production, she is carving a unique path in Hollywood. With her talent, work ethic, and willingness to take risks, Dakota Johnson promises to continue captivating audiences for years to come. Read the full article

I think Lauren and Layla happened to go to an even together with the group. Conversed and got a long in a way and then followed one another. I'm not sure if it was that deep. Maybe Layla is a girls girl. JAW and Cam don't follow her . I don't think Noel follows Addison Timlin White. Etc. I'm sure Layla and Cam do have some slight bitter feelings or whatever when can used to make jokes about noel being his , or maybe she doesn't find him all that appealing in the way that he's a complete flirt to a bunch of girls at the same time or whatever. I don't know.
All of what you said could be true. We’ve become trained to believe that when Shameless costars hang out, it is always documented on social media for clout. And it very well may be the case. So if we didn’t see an actual Layla-Lauren interaction, then it didn’t happen.
As far as who follows who, there’s a long list of people that I’m surprised don’t follow each other from the show and from other projects too. I think ultimately there’s no point in reading too much into it.

Like Me
Written 5/16/17
Tumblr media
Ahh hubris, we meet again. Every time I think I've thwarted you, you sneak back in at unexpected times. This time you weaseled into my preconceived notion of a psychedelic art film that I was positive I would hate.
A couple weeks ago I was lucky enough to attend the Overlook Film Festival, a horror festival which had its debut this year at Mt. Hood in Oregon at the Timberline Lodge (the famous set for the outdoor scenes from The Shining). I learned quite a lot from this festival, mainly that I'm becoming a boring old lady who would rather watch Wheel of Fortune in my hotel room than alter my sleep schedule for a weekend to stay up partying. I also learned that my love of film is changing. I am still particular about what a movie should or shouldn't be, and what it should and shouldn't include (any movie with badly done flash backs is dead to me), but the types of movies and stories that I enjoy are surprising me more and more.
Tumblr media
Before the festival started, my boyfriend and I sat down and looked at the line up and circled everything we wanted to see, based on youtube trailers and vague synopses. Like Me was at the top of my boyfriend's list, and around the middle of mine (I know it would be more dramatic to say it was at the bottom of mine, but there was some seriously weird shit playing...). Because we usually do whatever I want to do, I selflessly put Like Me at the top of our conjoined list and made sure we went to the very first showing. We made the mistake of eating breakfast right beforehand (do not, I repeat, DO NOT follow in my foolish footsteps). I sat gingerly in my seat, excited for my boyfriend to get to see something his was super excited for, but mostly focusing on finding my favorite critic in the crowd.
The opening, dissonant christmas music pulled my eyes back to the screen. The beautiful shot of a tackily lit convenience kiosk made me sit up straighter, and the perfect pacing and mystery of the opening sequence pulled me deep into a world that I was eager to explore.
Tumblr media
I've never seen a food gore film, let alone a psychedelic food gore film about the dangers of online fame, but as someone who struggles with overeating and puts food on a unmatched pedestal, I found this story oddly intimate.
I really dislike films that have unrelated style, and I was worried that Like Me's art-house cinematography would be just there to make the film different, more "expressive", when in reality the style of shooting and set design was not only related to the story, it was the story. This modern day obsession with shocking each other, with being the most shocking, the biggest, the loudest, the brightest, is only elevated by the relations formed on the internet. Kiya (Addison Timlin) is so desperate for recognition by people who don't even know what she looks like, that all morals and common sense pale in comparison to her art. We see the world as she sees the world, as something to capture, manipulate, and force in other peoples' faces to establish her artistic dominance.
This film plays with the perfect amount of mystery. Kiya is kept from us, like something precious that we haven't earned yet, and cloaked in the mysteries of her erratic actions and lack of exposition. We know the perfect amount of nothing, not enough to know who the writer thinks she is, but enough to decide who we think she is.
Tumblr media
Her impassioned rivalry with Burt (Ian Nelson) is spot on. Everything about this asshole exemplifies modern internet interactions. A bit exaggerated perhaps, but completely relatable, and the conclusion of his character is satisfyingly classic. I loved the juxtaposition of Kiya and everyone around her. There are really only five characters; four of them are stereotypical portraits of people that we've all met, and one is someone who we will never meet. I think it takes a very introspective writer to put those two types together, with very little middle ground. We have Kiya, who is so strange and out there that relating to her is a headache, so we stop trying about five minutes in and just enjoy the ride she's taking us on. Then there's Burt, who we've all met, and most of us would like to never meet again. There's Marshall (Larry Fessenden), who's so classic it's almost funny, but he's still given such a level of depth and care that it's clear that the writer thought long and hard about the whens and whys of his life. Any writer would have to be careful with a character like Marshall, because he needs to be the perfect balance of relatable and grotesque.  Robert Mockler somehow made a relationship between two people horrifying and beautiful, and not in a "tragic love" way, in a "I'm going to force feed you gummy bears until you puke, tie you up and stick you in my trunk, then we'll have a deep conversation about life" way. While we're on the subject: ew. I will never eat gummy candy again. But this type of nauseating imagery did solidify a very particular way that Kiya sees the world.
If you're going to make an art film, this is the way to do it. Make sure your character would be into the way that you're telling their story. It might not make sense for a straightforward character to be driving a car and suddenly be surrounded by red, blobby, animated blood, but it does for Kiya. She finds everything interesting. It reminds me a bit of Paterson (Jim Jarmush, Adam Driver, if you haven't seen it, do immediately) in that the world is placed in front of us as an extraordinary canvas for creativity. The big difference between Kiya and Paterson is that Paterson looks at the world and finds beauty in what is, whereas Kiya looks at the world and finds beauty in what it could be, if you just tweak it a bit...and add a lot of milk and jello.
A perfect opening. I perfect ending. A perfect everything in between. I am so insanely jealous of Robert Mockler's first film and I so eagerly await his second, and I will try my very best in the future to not judge a film by its flashing lights and strange cut-and-paste imagery.

SXSW Film 2017 – Wet Edition
A steady rainy mist that lasted from Friday through Sunday during opening weekend of the SXSW Film Festival did little to dampen the spirits of those attending this year. If anything, it strengthened the resolve to brave the elements and long lines to catch world premieres of instant renown.
My hipster suede shoes were soaked by wet murk by Saturday afternoon. It was synchronicity in motion that random freebies being handed out on street corners included socks. At one point Saturday night I donned a spare pair of hiking shoes that I keep in my car trunk and never wear. Had I ever worn them I would know they were a half-size too small, although they were definitely waterproof.
Sunday’s strategy saw a return to the still damp suede shoes with a sock change every four hours. The sun eventually came out in full force on Monday just after noon. At that time I was scheduled to participate in a paintball war with other journalists and Sharlto Copley, a promotion for the film Free Fire, but the ground was soaking with mud and even with the protective clothing there was no respite for the shoes. So I wussed out and returned to Hicksville.
The shoes were the least of my cares. SXSW is all about new contacts and discoveries, seeing forgotten friends, breakfast parties and complimentary rubbing of the flesh. Some of the best conversations I’ve ever had occurred in a SXSW film premiere line. This year one exchange of words resulted in a participant culling a video on his smartphone that depicted bees learning. Everyone around pulled in to watch. A fake bee on a stick shows a real bee how to put a ball into a hole and get a sugar reward. Then the bee is putting the ball in the hole, and then the alpha bee is teaching another bee the same thing. And we haven’t even gotten to the real movies yet.
World Premiere Capsules:
Like Me revolves around an outcast young femme that uses social media to document an ever-increasing crime spree. At first Kiya (Addison Timlin) video captures a convenience store robbery, but soon resorts to kidnapping and putting her captive in bizarre sexual tableaus. This could well be an extended episode of Black Mirror.
Song to Song evokes Austin in the multiple uses of locations set in the capital city, some of which are long gone. The film was shot in 2012, but Terrence Malick is known for taking years to edit a film as well as an idiosyncratic style that consists of voice-over narration of the dialogue. There’s a sense that the characters that populate this universe have no souls, and at the same time the filmmaking excels in production value.
Alien: Covenant was teased by Sir Ridley Scott, who previewed about twenty-minutes of footage from the May release. Katherine Waterston, Danny McBride and Michael Fassbinder also participated in the stage presentation. Spoilers included the suggestion that the space craft the crew has landed on the planet gets destroyed during an alien infiltration, and the hint that the new cast meets up with characters from Prometheus.
Baby Driver has Edgar Wright in Walter Hill mode. A tightly constructed car heist film with an accelerated cast that delivers its narrative beats in time to the soon-to-be-talked-about soundtrack. Opens 11 August.
Lucky stars Harry Dean Stanton as a drinking and smoking 90-year-old in a California desert town populated by other eccentric types. Co-starring David Lynch, Tom Skerritt, James Darren and Beth Grant. Stanton anchors the film with his solid performance.
Atomic Blonde features Charlize Theron as a double agent on a mission in Berlin during the fall of the wall (1989). A high body count follows. At the screening Q&A, Theron talked about the extensive training she did for the role, admitting she “cracked two rear teeth” while clenching her jaws during certain exercises. Open late July.
Becoming Bond centers on the only actor to play Bond in a motion picture once – George Lazenby. More than one Bond aficionado considers On Her Majesty’s Secret Service to be at the top of the two-dozen Bond films extant. Lazenby worked as a car salesman and his good looks and strong personality got him the audition that sealed the deal. In addition to select clips from the Bond film, BB recreates moments from Lazenby’s life with help from co-stars like Dana Carvey and Jane Seymour.
Bill Nye: Science Guy documents Nye debating with people who believe the Earth is 6,000 years old and deny climate change. Nice balance of science and Nye’s personal life.
La Barracuda mixes the Austin music scene with the tale of a bastard child of a popular and now deceased folksinger. Sophie Reid plays Sinaloa, the haunted lead as who hitchhikes into Austin straight from Brighton ready to meet her half-sister and extended family. Tension ensues when Sinaloa reveals nasty anger management issues. Butch Hancock, The Mastersons and Colin Gilmore appear in supporting roles during concert sequences.
