Jordan stops her from leaving entirely and Devon hates how her feet stay glued to the ground, even as the back of her neck feels warm for humiliating herself in front of her friend. Because that's all they'll ever really be. But the awkwardness remains between them, despite Jordan saying otherwise, and Devon isn't sure whether to stay or go like she initially intended. Stabbing herself in the face would be easier than disappointing Jordan, so she slowly turns back around. "Okay, sorry. We don't have to talk about it." Her brain searches for any other topic to fill the gaping silence and she's coming up fairly short. "Gonna do anything fun for the holidays?"
It's the way Devon flinches back that makes her realize that maybe she's, again, fucking things up. Not that it really surprises her, fucking things up is right up top of the list of this she's exceedeling good at. But it's different with Devon, as most things seem to be, and the disinterested feeling that follows the realization that she's screwing up everything doesn't fill her like it usually does. And she feels at a crossroads. She should say something, do something... "Dev wait, no..." it's the way she knows no matter what she does or says, she's gonna fuck up anyway, but she can't bear to not try. "Please... you don't bother me, don't... I'm sorry if I made you think that." she sighs once more, looks down at the ground, kicks at some dirt and shrugs. "I don't... I don't want you to go."

After the absolute mess that Cam had made out of things, it served them right that she spent the holiday with Jordan. She doubted that Jordan would agree to come over and willingly be in a small apartment with her brother, but that was his own fault. It wasn’t a hardship for her to spend time with Jordan, and as they cooked together, looking the very picture of domestic bliss, Devon felt at home for the first time with someone outside of her family.
As she frosted the last of the sugar cookies she’d made, the blonde kept looking up to glance at her friend. Girlfriend? Something more. At least she hoped. Talking was something that they still had some difficulty with, but they had kissed once, and Jordan hadn’t run away screaming, so that had to be a good sign, right? Her face split into a grin as Jordan spoke to her, and she nodded, stepping around the corner so she could come up beside her. “It’s really nice,” she agreed.
A sudden feeling of boldness struck her, and she eyed the spoon Jordan was using to stir the sauce. Grabbing the other blonde’s wrist slowly, Devon pulled the spoon closer and blew on it before tasting the sauce as offered, while her eyes remained trained on Jordan’s the entire time. Licking her lips, she leaned back and smiled innocently at her. “Tastes great.”

Every time Jordan gets that look on her face, Devon wants to take back whatever she said or did to put it there. It often felt like Devon was the only one who could affect the other girl so deeply, and not in a positive way. It shouldn’t surprise her when her outburst makes Jordan curl in on herself, like she’s waiting for a blow to fall on her. It makes her hate Jordan’s parents, and moreso, it makes her hate herself. “I’m-” The conversation that Jordan was referring to had been completely random, and certainly not one that Devon expected her to remember. Why would anyone remember anything about her? Looking away, Devon tries to squash the tiny voice that lingers in the back of her mind. “I just think you’re going to get disappointed. I’m not a good person.” And that was the crux of it. Jordan, for all of her “scariness” was one of the sweetest people in the world, while Devon, who might look like an angel, was selfish and callous, the furthest thing from a hero. “You’re the good one here, not me.”

She hates this magic that Codie has been bestowed with, the same magic that twisted and ravaged Declan's body. She can't help but see her brother when she sees her roommate like this, the inky blackness seeping into her eyes. It's a product of whatever magic Codie uses, and it leaves Devon useless in its face, probably because in the eyes of nature, these are some of the intended consequences. It doesn't need to be healed. It makes Devon want to scream because what the fuck is the point of having magic like hers if it forces her to just sit by and watch while her loved ones suffer? "The information is fucking useless if you can't stand on your feet long enough to use it!" How does Codie not understand that without her, none of them stand a fucking chance?
what was your plan ?? you could’ve gotten yourself killed ! - devon/codie
"The plan was to look! Like always!" Codie shouts back at Devon, shoulders bunching up towards her ears, teeth bared - she looks more like a feral animal like this than she has in some time - but the side effects have started to settle in from her so-called 'looking'. Her skin has taken on an almost gray pallor, and her sclera have started to darken into black. "I can't help what goes wrong, but I know I can get information like this - it's the only thing I can do for us right now, since I can't actually fucking go over there."

Devon knew that inviting Jordan to have dinner with her brothers was always touch and go. No matter how many times she tried to make Cam promise to be nice, he always had to make a comment that sent her girlfriend retreating back into her shell, even though he never meant any harm with it. She just knew that Jordan had a hard time because of her own difficulties with family. Teasing and gentle ribbing had never been a part of her life, and it always made Devon want to go kill them all over again for it. For hurting Jordan like that.
The wink was supposed to be another teasing gesture, something to help steady Jordan, only it had the opposite effect when it sent her running from the room. Devon was up and out of her chair almost immediately after, ignoring the snickering coming from her brothers, and she followed Jordan to the small bathroom in the hall. Shutting the door behind her so they could have some privacy, she slowly approached from the side, so she wouldn’t startle her too much. “Babe?” She rubbed her back gently, trying to help loosen the tension that had built up over the course of the night, and a hand reached out to tilt Jordan’s face toward her.
“It’s okay. I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to cause something,” she murmured softly. She stepped forward again, close enough so she could wrap her arms around Jordan’s waist and hug her close. “Do you want to go home?”

@rivenfate sent in 27: grab a fistful of my muse’s hair ( for devon )
She missed, or at least Devon is going to assume that Codie missed her shoulder or something, because there was currently a giant terrifying shadow wolf lurking outside of their window, and panic was the only proper response to it. It was supposed to be a quiet night, and Devon had been staring out the window while ignoring the open biology book in her lap ( her focus was preoccupied by a certain goth girl who shall not be named ). Two glowing eyes suddenly appeared in the darkness, and she was screaming before she even knew what was happening. It wasn’t until Codie grabbed her and clapped a hand over her mouth that Devon realized what she was doing and stopped.
“What the fuck is that?” she whisper-screeched at her roommate, who didn’t look alarmed in the slightest. In fact, she looked happy? As Codie walked towards the window, Devon swiped at her, trying to hold her back and away from whatever this monstrous-looking thing was. And then she opened the window and started cooing at it, and it was… purring? The book that she had grabbed for her protection tumbled to the ground and she stared as her roommate practically nuzzled at this monstrosity. “Codie… what the fuck?”

The squawk she let out was half-indignance, half-surprise, but when she glanced over at the girl who was supposedly staring at her legs, she only saw the side of her face, and a deep blush coloring her cheeks. Damn it, Cam was right. A part of her wanted to dump the rest of her drink over his head, but that wouldn’t be fair considering he was only pointing out the truth in his insufferable Cam way. Also a little aggressive. Maybe she could dump the drink over the girl’s head so she would stop staring. But then her brother started talking about Jordan, and her eyes slid back towards him in a laser-focused glare. “Shut up,” she grumbled, crossing her arms over her chest. “Jordan likes my legs just fine. In fact, I’m pretty sure they’re one of her favorite things about me. Especially when they’re wrapped around her head.”

@ofvalor sent in “ 🔴 ( my muse helping your muse clean blood off of them. ) - for devon and cam
It was like someone else took over, and she watched everything through her eyes like a movie, but not quite. She could feel the blood that splashed across her face, despite her best efforts to keep the evidence to a minimal. Devon hadn’t been expecting them to fight back quite so hard, but it seemed fight or flight truly did make a difference when your life was at stake. And when it was all over, she carefully and methodically prepped the evidence she had painstakingly gathered over the last several weeks. The gun registered in Christian Holloway’s name, purchased at a gun show two states away. The knife was an unexpected touch, but would still sell the story of a domestic dispute gone bad. Simple enough to get Jane Holloway’s fingerprints on the blade to confirm it. Any other evidence of Devon’s presence there could be explained away by the dreadfully awkward “meet the parents” dinner that she had insisted on a week or so ago.
When she left the house, she texted Codie, leaving behind a trail of messages that would confirm an alibi for both her and Jordan, in the rare event that the police suspected something more, but she had been careful. No one knew what she was doing, save Cam. Her friends and girlfriend believed that she had been called home for some family time, and that she would rejoin them in a few days. Even Declan was kept in the dark, just to save him the concern and anxiety that he already drowned in. No, this was her burden to bear. All that was left was to clean herself.
When Cam found her shaking in her bathtub an hour later, blood still dried along her skin, he didn’t say a word. He had always been good at that. He simply took the rag from her trembling fingers and began to scrub away the blood in efficient yet gentle strokes. She was guessing that this was not the first time he had done this, but judging by the thin line of his lips, he wasn’t particularly pleased at seeing his sister so distressed. The water finally ran clear, her long blonde hair free of blood once more, and he wrapped her up in a towel larger than herself, like she was six years old again and their mother was working late, not like she had just murdered her girlfriend’s parents in cold blood.
“We’re kind of fucked up aren’t we?” she chuckled, exhaustion creeping in. Eventually, this reaction would fade, as she grew more accustomed to the lives that she and Cam were starting to lead, but Devon had to admit that she didn’t hate having this closeness with her brother, as rare as it was. “Thanks for helping me.”

There's something about the way that Jordan sighs that makes Devon flinch back. She knows she's way past the border of annoying and has firmly been at the obnoxious stage for a few days, but she knows something is off, and she can't shake the feeling that it has something to do with her. Jordan is always quiet, but lately, it feels like she's been pulling away from her, and Devon has spent the last week trying to figure out what went wrong. But Jordan is stonewalling her yet again, and she thinks maybe it's time to stop making an idiot out of herself in front of someone who clearly doesn't want her around. "Sorry, okay... yeah. If you say so," she says, pasting on a too-wide smile. "Sorry to bother you then. I'll see you in class."
❛ why won't you just tell me what i did wrong? ❜ - devon/jordan | @silencedrage
Jordan sighs, deep and heavy and tired... she just can't remember how many times Devon's asked the same question over the past week or so... and it's not really Devon's fault, Jordan's been sort of... keeping her distance ( or avoiding, if you wanna go into detail ). " You've done nothing wrong Dev, I already told you." and it's true, really. It's not Devon's fault that Jordan's ridiculously into her and she doesn't know how to... not be it. " it's just been... a weird couple days ?." it comes out as a question, rather than the confident statement Jordan was never expecting to let out ( she's not the best liar --most times more like... unapologetically honest ) and she knows Devon won't be fooled, but she also hopes it's enough to stop her from asking more questions.
