Yes! I wrote for the community so it’s really cool to discuss the characters

Angst is NOT my thing, but probably do you remember? which just has Michael fall asleep before Max can ask about Alex, so it ends in their still fractured pre-show relationship

All my fic has happy endings pretty much! But the one that probably felt the most joyful to me personally ours which was my first foray into malexa and just ends with the sweetest big group moment

Nope! Not since I moved into the rnm fandom, barring like one comment on a Forrest fic all I’ve ever gotten is really really nice interactions <3

Haha yes, all kinds. From the softest vanilla euphemism full sex to weak ass bdsm (sorry I haven’t quite got hardcore there yet- like I keep blushing and backing out on letting Max wear a collar)

Not really- I have one crossover written and another in the works. Rnm/Tvd which kinda writes itself.

Nope- ik I would be terrible to work with cause I’m super particular, but I’m not against the idea.

The Joniz kidnapping fic! I started back during s3 and formatted the entire thing, only for them to reveal more info on Jones so I had to replay it, and then he actually kidnapped Liz, fed her and dressed her and I was like ‘this is my fic!’

16. What are your writing strengths?

Idk- I think I put a lot of care and effort into making the characters actions and reactions plausible and realistic, cause I studied psychology for a bit and it’s one of my interests, so I just apply it a little too hard. Which feeds into a weakness cause it means I always feel incapable of characters pov’s I don’t think about an absurd amount

I love it personally- but the little Spanish I did retain from highschool isn’t enough to actually write it (so I use google translate) but I’m hoping once I have more free time to take up duolingo and actually learn it

Ok. Because today is a good day and I’ve been inspired by a barrage of Daredevil fic (here) and this adorable Reddit story about a woman realizing her friend has a crush on her because of her heart monitor, have a sketch of an idea for Roswell that is 100% cracky fluff.

(This is honestly just the bones of an idea and if someone wanted to take it and run with it I would be delighted because this is all I got.)

We know that Kyle would have extensively examined Michael and Isobel as the only alien subjects he had in preparation for Max’s surgery. Let’s suppose that he found both their heartrates to be a little higher than the human average, but comparable to each other. Given that their normal body temperature is also slightly above human average, Kyle figures that makes sense.

Let’s suppose that when they bring Max back, his resting heartrate is worryingly low compared to Michael and Isobel’s average. But, seeing that he’s in a coma and even human heartrates drop when unconscious, Kyle doesn’t panic. And when Max is finally, properly, back in the land of the living and Kyle gets him through a real exam, his heartrate is back up with Michael and Isobel’s where it should be.

Let’s further suppose, then, that at some point Kyle is giving Max a checkup and he’s in the middle of taking Max’s pulse when Liz and Alex walk in. Max lights up, Liz gives him a small kiss to say hello, and Kyle frowns. 

Being a doctor, he’s aware of what happens to people’s hearts when they see someone they love, or someone they’re attracted to (hopefully both at once but he’s not judging). He’s heard plenty of stories of heartrates spiking when significant others walk in the room, and a couple awkward instances of non-significant others producing the same result. He’s even had it happen to him a few times. 

Given how sappily gone for Liz Max is, he was expecting some kind of reaction. But nary a flutter from Max, and his heartrate remains fast and steady under Kyle’s fingers at his wrist. 

Alex notices the look, and asks what’s wrong. Kyle tries to brush it off but Liz is on him like a shark. Pinching his nose and hoping fervently he didn’t just torpedo Max and Liz’s chances at a happy relationship, Kyle explains. Liz, always the scientist, pursues; ignoring the way the tips of Max’s ears are turning red.

“What do you mean it didn’t change?”

“Exactly that, his pulse was normal and then you walked in and it didn’t change.”

“Normal how?”

Kyle gets out the files on Michael and Isobel he always has with him when he’s examining Max, for comparison’s sake, and points to their matching resting heartrates. Liz immediately starts poring over the records but Alex looks at Max fidgeting almost guiltily on the table and then tilts his head at Kyle.

“Kyle...”

“Yeah?”

“...you were the one who did Michael and Isobel’s exams?”

“Yeah.”

“And you took their pulse like that, with your fingers on their wrist?”

“Well, yeah.”

“And both of them registered as high?”

“Compared to humans, yeah.”

Alex looks like he’s trying to hide a smile while also looking like he wants to sink into the floor.

“Kyle.”

“What??”

“It’s because you’re hot.”

Liz’s head snaps up and Kyle’s brain refuses to process words anymore.

“...what.”

Alex sighs and pushes his sleeve up, looking like he’d rather be doing literally anything else. 

“Take my pulse.”

Kyle hesitates, then lightly takes Alex’s proffered wrist and starts keeping time. He pauses when he does the mental math and comes out high.

“...it’s fast.”

“Yes.” Alex rolls his sleeve back down and steps away self-consciously, “Because you’re hot.”

“Oh my god.”

Liz is squinting at Max, who looks like he’d really prefer to be dead again. Kyle stares blankly down at Michael and Isobel’s files, realization dawning.

“Oh my god.”

(Michael calls Alex “traitor” for at least a week. Isobel refuses to be embarrassed. “What, like he didn’t already know? He doesn’t need me to stroke his ego.” She gives Kyle an up and down and smirks. “Other things though...” 

Rosa laughs herself sick and renames Kyle “alien catnip” in her phone. Maria teases Michael mercilessly every time he comes to the Pony until he pointedly asks her if she thinks Kyle is hot too and she pleads the fifth.)

Kyle who spent all this time trying to save Max's dumb ass gonna act all annoyed that Max had to save him Like the fact that Max who is dying and his powers have been faltering pulled on all of his strength and the strength of his previous effort just to save Kyle because it's gosh damn Kyle Valenti and unlike Maria's think fast delayed reaction bit when she jumped off that roof he actually had to come face to face with a dying Kyle and nothing and no one around but him and he summoned everything even if it kills him the way they all just keep sacrificing themselves to save each other and the weight of that is just too much to process so I can't wait until we get a shirtless Kyle scene with him staring at that eridescent handprint blazoned across his torso what a diference two years makes since he first saw it on Liz's chest congrats my love you too are one of Max's people. He like cares about you and stuff Two yrs later and NOT saving Kyle just isn't an option even when once again for his own self preservation all signs point to NOT healing him

There are so many beautiful scenes that I'm just loving this season. The Kyle storyline in the first three episodes were pure gold. I love Michael Trevino so much and he is just unstoppable this season and I'm really looking forward to having him back on screen. The dynamic between him and Max is just undescribable and honestly this is the first time in my decade long fandom life in different shows that I have a crack ship that I enjoy so much. I am a big Echo shipper but damn I probably wouldn't mind Valevans either 😅

Other than that I am loving Maria storyline and enjoy her and Gregory very much. But more than that I just love love love her being badass and like Liz said she is her own saviour. Cause I really enjoyed in second season in episode six how she was the badass one that saved everyone else. So I'm looking forward to more of that. I mean beside Liz she is the only one that figured that was Jones and not Max.

Oh and Nathan is just killing it this season. I always loved his acting cause you really feel every emotion he feels but he is just magnificent as Jones and while I was very scared of the whole doppelganger storyline cause it's very CW storyline I am completely hooked and want more of Jones. But also eagerly waiting for my baby Max to come back.

First of all, Anon, I want to apologize for being so late to respond to this. I truly did not mean to drop y'all for over a week, but real life has been kicking my ass right now.

100% agree with you about Trevino and Valevans. They were sooo delightful at the start of this season, and I'm suffering dearly missing both Max and Kyle this last few eps. Hopefully we'll get them both back on Monday. Nathan is indeed killing it as Jones, but he's not Max.

And yes, Maria and Greg are so cute in a quiet way and I love that for her. And am very much enjoying just how much Maria and really all the ladies have been driving the narrative forward, kicking ass and supporting each other these last few episodes. It's delightful to see and I'm really hoping we'll get more of it going forward.

@thatblackdress mo,,, my sweet moseph,,,,, I am thinking abt kyle running a little bookstore and ann coming in once a month and she asks for a recommendation once but it’s so perfect she asks for more every time she comes in. and she loves each title he puts in her hands. and he starts planning ahead, coming up with a whole ass list & keeping some pulled aside so that he’s already holding one up and explaining why she should read it before the door has even closed behind her. and she’s SO charmed she starts coming in twice a month and then once a week. and he starts using these books to flirt with her, the most obvious being abt a may-december romance. and the tension is thick as hell by the time he leans over the counter and she meets him halfway for the sweetest kiss they’ve ever tasted

Fandom(s): Very much Roswell New Mexico rn, but I would definitely not write off (ha) dipping back into Les Mis, because I love it so much there.

Where you post: AO3. tumblr is such a horrible nightmare for finding and tracking things, and unless it’s an ask meme like this or replies to asks, posting on tumblr makes me generally nervous.

Overall: from one side to the other, which is an exr soulmates fic because I’m a slut for a soulmate au. I am, um. Not so in love with this one six years on, but hey ho, that’s what six years will do. 🤷‍♂️

Most Popular Multi-Chapter (by kudos)

This year: Finding You, which is the ‘what if Michael and Alex joined Max and Liz on their road trip, no Noah meaning no Rosa murder, and everyone has a happier time than they do in canon’ fic that I am very happy about, even if it now feels like I wrote it five years ago, rather than this year. It’s a lovely summery fic.

Overall: Just Another Guy With A Bow, which is another one I’m not super in love with these days, mostly because I shipped Clint/Coulson only for that brief period of intense Avengers obsession I went through in 2012/13, and don’t anymore, and I look back at that fic and all I can think is that it really should’ve been Natasha/Clint. 😂 I love their bits so much.

Favourite story you've written so far: It’s gotta be Shadow Work. I wrote almost 200k in 3 months, and I’m so happy with the result. My runner-up would actually be The House That Dripped Blood though, which is funny because that’s my spooky Les Mis fic, so what you should take from this is that I apparently love scaring people.

Fic you were nervous to post: I don’t really get nervous about posting fic in terms of worrying about reception, but I guess either Weaving Olden Dances (an exr faery au) because there are a lot of different pronouns in that and I hoped that they would be easily understood by readers, or you don’t get to rehearse (an exr Buffy au) because it was the first non-linear fic I’d written and again, I hoped it would be easy enough to understand and follow.

How do you choose your titles? Almost always song lyrics, or the title just appears perfectly formed in my brain. But the title is never decided until after the fic is finished.

Do you outline? All my Les Mis fics were outlined af, but I’m weirdly more flexible for RNM, and Idk what that’s about. There is always an outline regardless, but I’ve written a bunch of RNM fic where I start out not knowing how it’ll end, which was never the case with my Les Mis fics.

Complete: 79 on AO3, a handful more back on ff.net but we don’t talk about those. I don’t start posting fic until I’ve finished it and only have final edits to make.

In Progress: Oof, I’m only actively working on the malexa HDM au rn, but I also have started a malex arranged marriage in space au, a continuation of the aforementioned malex d/s au, the attack dog au (malex in space, Michael is genetically predisposed to loyalty), the maribel roller derby au, and I do want to maybe get back to Underground Dreaming (the les mis urban magic au) next year, because I’ve written so many fics for that and not posted them.

Coming soon/not yet started: I want to write a kaliz sequel to Cut to the Feeling, the valevans sex pollen fic, and I have finished but not yet posted a Michael/Alex/Maria/Rosa sedoretu au. I was holding off on posting because of all the RNM big bang fics, but I’ll probably post that soon.

I'm sorry, I didn't see this or meant to get back to it but never did.

Valevans.

Valevans looks like two very attractive men appreciating the finer qualities in one another.

Max is more open. He likes to see the good in people, so even though he was jealous of Kyle in high school and thought he was a jerk, he is in awe and highly respects Kyle as an adult.

He sees Kyle as aspirational because he sees how Kyle transformed into this great guy, and it makes him think about how he can overcome the worst of himself too. And Max always thinks of himself in a dark light a lot. He can't help it.

Kyle begrudgingly accepts Max. He could very well think the absolute worst of him, but Kyle isn't the type to paint someone with a narrow brush. Begrudgingly becoming his ally has made him see Max in ways he wouldn't have normally done, and he knows they share things like a personal moral and ethical code that run parallel with each other and sometimes overlap.

Valevans looks like Max embracing Kyle completely. He's the first to consider them actual friends and would probably describe Kyle as a friend before Kyle would ever dare.

Max is a puppy. In the aftermath of Liz's departure rather than slipping into a depression, he reaches out. It looks like hanging out at the Wild Pony. Grabbing a seat next to Kyle as he has a drink.

Kyle doesn't turn him away. Which Max sees as a good sign. Max is the pursuer.

Kyle always acts more put off than he really is. The more time he has spent with Max, the more he actually likes the guy. Although, he never openly admits that.

And Max actually gives him something that other relationships don't. Max ... listens. He's a really good listener and not just in the moment, but he retains what he hears and applies it where he deems fit. And it's considerate.

Max is very considerate, and Kyle isn't used to that. Max remembers little minutia like Kyle's favorite beer or the song he likes to work out to most. He remembers the anniversary of Jim's death, and he's quick to send out a text to see if he needs anything. He'll even go as far as asking him out for a "favor" for the sole purpose of just distracting him.

Max is the type to bring Kyle lunch on his lunch break. Kyle doesn't know how to take that at first.

Kyle doesn't mind Max's company when he wants to hang out with someone. Max has a way of enjoying all the little things. Just being in Kyle's company seems to be enough and ... that feels good. It's so simple.

They're not all easy. When they disagree, they get passionate, and they come toe to toe, face to face, and the space between them is but a breath as they jut their chins out and get all Alpha.

They can't even argue without gravitating to each other, invading each others space, and those moments are so charged that even they are aware that the tipping point could bring them to blows or to ... something else.

It's the "something else" that breaks the spell. Both sensing the attraction that is there but not knowing what to do with that.

Max is not opposed. He's long since accepted that maybe none of his kind are binary in their sexuality, but he never really allowed himself to think about anyone like that except Liz.

And Kyle, he learned a long time ago that sexuality is fluid. Something that would give him pause or send him spiraling as a kid just doesn't as a grown man.

Max only allowed Liz in, but then, in hindsight, he thinks that's why he's drawn to Kyle so much. Kyle understands what it's like to love Liz.

He understands what it's like to lose her. He understands what it's like to love her and also feel hurt and betrayed by her. It bonds them in this way that he doesn't have the words for, but mainly, it makes him appreciate Kyle even more.

He's the one that falls first. Slowly, ever so slowly, and then it just overwhelms him.

They're having another one of their disagreements when his annoyance melts into something else entirely. It actually makes him mad. He wants to be mad at Kyle, but he can't.

It slips out of him, and he ducks his head in that almost bashful way, relinquishing control, but Kyle doesn't let him off that easy. He never does.

Kyle holds his feet to the fire. He never backs down. The spark in Kyle's eye is distracting, and Max is tired of fighting what he's feeling.

He's also tired of fighting, so he reaches his hand out to place it on Kyle's shoulder only managing a squeeze before Kyle shakes him off.

And when Kyle says his name with a different kind of heat, he knows he's not in whatever they're in alone.

But Kyle fights it too. Probably for bigger and more complex reasons than him. But something shifts when they're aware of the moment they're in and the things they both are feeling.

They're suspended in time, and at some point, neither of them even remembers who makes the first real move toward each other.

It's slow at first, a pull, hesitant, cautious, two consent kings giving the other ample time to back out before it's too late.

Their lips against each other are hesitant too... tentative pressing of warm lips slotting against one another, until they aren't.

It's hard and fast, and passionate. They grunt and growl, fingers digging into the other's skin, clutching the other closer.

They are not careful. They are not soft.

And it's almost amusing that their kissing would also be like two cowboys dueling at high noon.

They fight like men. They kiss like men. And they probably will f**k like them too.

Domestic Valevans is bickering all the time, but it's always with a playful edge. One or both of them end up laughing at some point, and they can't actually stay mad at each other for long.

It's Max cooking Kyle dinner after a long shift and sometimes giving him a back rub too.

It's Kyle bringing takeout to the station for Max's lunch and the two of them sharing a quick bite before getting back to work.

Kyle acts like he doesn't know shite about what Max likes, but he pays attention to everything, and Max always feels seen.

Max knows when Kyle doesn't want to talk. He'll sit with him in complete silence for hours. Sometimes doing nothing, other times reading a book, but he won't leave Kyle's side.

Max leaves books everywhere. The kitchen counter. The dresser. On top of the hamper in the bathroom.

Kyle leaves the bottles he drinks shakes out of in the sink and doesn't put water in them which makes washing the dishes a bitch.

Kyle loves action movies, but Max is kind of a dork and a dope. Geeky movies and romance.

They both are more sentimental than they let on, so date night actually becomes a competition of one-upping each other. They both always win.

Kyle frets a lot over Max's heart and other alien related things, but he does it while pretending to be annoyed. Max finds this amusing.

They see each other's darkness, call each other out, but they also see each other's goodness too.

No one else can make sense of their thing, but they don't care because it's their thing.

BJD '17 Goals

So I figured I'd chat a bit about what I'd like to do in 2017. 2016 was a slow year (it was hell, tbh) but I improved my sewing skills by leaps, so much that I'll be opening my shop, Dragons Delight Studio, on Monday even though there may not be much at first. I am getting quicker on my machine though. There are a couple of things I would like to get done this year. One is Night's tail which is super simple. All I need to get is the armature and new magnet. Second is sculpt Ulara's tail. I'll probably order a colored Apoxie sculpt because it's going to be a one time thing and I doubt it will ever get cast in resin. Third is to simply to maintain my shop well enough that I may bring some new members of the crew home. Which brings me to my wishlist! I'll probably stick with top 3. 1. Amber (Supia Ji-in, tan) 2. Thackery's head (Migidoll Jina, since Migi is slowly discontinuing all of his older sculpts.) 3. Ulara (Supia Eunice, tan) because my mermaid needs to be home. (Besides, a relationship is building between her and Valevan! Awkward couple shots FTW!)

What’s a fic idea you’ve had that you will never write?

Never say never (lol), but all sorts like I have ideas ALL the time and not enough time in the day, but probably the Liz/Max/Kyle/Jenna ot4 where they’re just chilling and in love that kinda just documents their life as two married “couples” and the moment they decide maybe the suburbs isn’t a bad idea cause then they’ll have space to all live together…

Is there a fic that got a different response than you were expecting?

Ummm- not really? Except maybe the first Valevans one I wrote at the drop of the peak intrest in the pairing? So I think use me absolutely

Do you have specific playlists for writing fics?

Most long fic has its own playlist and anything short usually as on to three songs, but those are all specific to the fic of that makes sense

At what point in the process do you come up with titles?

Either it pops in my head the second I envision the fic, it’s a lyric from a song I listen to on repeat or a scrape together something after the whole thing is written

Have you ever deleted an entire scene after spending hours laboring over it? If so, why?

Never, just huge chunks of them and then rewrote them with a different vibe or jumping off point (I am ascend addict, once it’s in my brain it stays)

Do you know how your fic will end before you start writing?

That really depends, long fic yes (the general vibes as well as the endings for all major players) for medium fics it depends on the writing bug that bites me (sometimes I super excited dive in and write 3k and post it the same day- less these days that I’ve actually started writing and editing and working on my fic) and for short fics there isn’t really an end to be had since they’re one scene- the whole thing just comes as the initial idea

also, for future reference I’ve had a lot going on in my life as of late- so fox has been slow, but once I get passed the first two weeks of November I’ll be freed up to finish the Valevans rwrb au and start slowly adding onto Treading Water, but slowly since I’m hoping to get the first draft of my novel finished by the Spring <3

But Kyle had grumbled something about college and tomatoes growing on a balcony in New York. Then had proceeded to show up at his place with wood and too many bags of soil.

summary: There’s an indistinguishable something burning in his stomach at every stupid word out of Max’s mouth. Each time his lips wrap around something even more ill timed and ridiculous, Kyle has to refrain from grabbing at him. From digging his nails in and making Max feel the same chaotic pain that flares through his chest when Max talks.

“You said you wanted to see this through,” Max says stupidly. Like Kyle had meant ‘this’. He’d meant he wanted to save Max, not help him implode the last remaining pieces of his life.

“This isn’t what I meant okay?” Kyle says exasperatedly, pinching the bridge of his nose.

summary: He’s exhausted. The kind that seems to settle over his shoulders weighing each step down before he even takes it.

Kyle’s mind was spinning out, trying to recoup and recover. Even if he was actively not thinking. He had only called time of death on two occasions. A secret third had been on his tongue once, back before the death would have impacted him on multiple levels. Before he had become accustomed to the warmth in Max’s voice when he addressed him.

Bonnie Parker has been missing for almost a month when her case finds itself added to all of their plates.

Much to Max’s chagrin he might have invented a fake girlfriend to get her off his back months back. And now has to find a doctor to pretend to be his romantic partner or ruin his mother’s favorite holiday.

Kyle Valenti doesn’t owe Max anything but the opportunity to have his rival under his thumb is one he can’t just pass by…

summary: Kyle almost didn’t crawl out of the house, or do much more than grab the bag Rosa had so graciously packed a few days back. He was doing this spitefully after all, boarding a plane to Mexico, all so he could post photos all over social media. Make sure everyone knew he was drinking Tequila and lounging on the beach. That the time he’d requested off work and the money he’d thrown into this vacation wouldn’t go to waste.

Prove to the world that Steph was the last thing on his mind. Even as he grumbles in his own mind about her while walking through the airport.

I talked a little about what inspired it here! As for what I’ve enjoyed the most about writing it is Max and Kyle’s easy friendship, like just how simply they play off of each other once that antagonism has so unwillingly melted away. And a snippet cause I feel bad for not having much to say:

It had become a habit since that first time they’d done it, drove out to Project Shepherd and then Flint Manes’s house. Max easily grabbing his keys and nodding towards the jeep or Kyle nonchalantly continuing their conversation while opening his passenger side door to signal to the tall dork that they were taking his car.
