Itzel

Movie: Emperor's New Groove

Storyline: The "girl next door" neighbor of Pacha, Itzel was a young woman who herded Llama so well she developed a reputation for being a llama whisperer. She was selected to be part of the Emperor's chosen brides but was rejected. In anger, and to defend the other candidates, Itzel insulted the spoiled king...and gets promptly kicked out of the palace. Later on, she finds out Kuzco was cursed into a llama. She poked fun at his predicament before realizing the power vacuum his absence would cause. She decided to help Pacha and Kuzco, and from there she and Kuzco learn they have more in common than they thought.

Princess Bron:

Movie: A Bug's Life

Storyline: The sister of Atta and Dot, and the middle child of the Royal Family. A fire ant, Bron always knew she was an outcast among her peers. Bron fell fast for a rouge grasshopper named Soar, who unlike his peers he doesn't believe in mistreating ants. Together with Flik they hatch a plan to scare Hopper and his gang off the island forever. Bron also has trouble with Atta as the two have different opinions on how to handle the crisis. But after certain events the two sisters come to understand each other and eventually lead their people to freedom. At the end Bron and Saur leave to form their own colony but with bugs of all types.

Alma Mater

But over the course of the film Alma gains a deeper appreciation for her heritage which helps her when she does go out into the big world. Alma inherited Doc Hudson's office, then left to pursue a career at CHROME. She also helped a Lemon named Lucia with her dreams of becoming a racer.

Storyline: Lucia was a young Italian woman with dreams of becoming a race car. The problem? She was a Lemon, and often was sickly. But she refused to let her condition pull her down. Studying and modifying techniques, she grew to become a name in the Lemon community as a talent. However when she submitted her application to several organizations she was turned down. She was very close to giving up until she met a pink Tow Truck named Alma. Befriending Alma, thr two would go on to help CHROME take down a conspiracy and, Lucia ends up forming her own league allowing Lemons and other "defect" cars a chance to pursue careers in racing.

Storyline: Originally a schoolteacher from Earth, Zephyr was captured by Zurg after she stood up to him when he tried to take over her town. She was very snarky, and wasn't the least bit intimidated by his posturing. Which confused the hell outta the Evil Emperor! She'd get rescued by Star Command and over the years, she and Zurg had one encounter after the other. But SOMEHOW to the shock of everyone Zurg was actually kinda liking her ferocity. And hard as Zephyr didn't want to admit, she did come to respect Zurg for his consistency. The two ended up secretly dating, and eventually secretly married. Now with a ton shit of power Empress Zephyr wanted to help the galaxy than to conquer it so she took on the role of the diplomat to make sure intergalactic war didn't break out.

Hazel

Storyline: After losing her job Hazel is making ends meet doing odd jobs. She gets a gig babysitting for a couple's three year old daughter. One night after hearing some noise, Hazel discovers a secret room Boo's door...that leads to the Monster World. Encountering creatures who seem more scared of her than she is of them, Hazel is nearly caught but comes across Mike and Sully.. Together the trio and Boo must find the door to take them back into the human world. Returning to the castle Temperance pleaded for Elsa's freedom. It was then she learned of Hans plot to kill the royal family. Finding a freed Elsa, Temperance told Elsa what she had found and the two rush to stop Hans. After saving Anna, Arendelle is restored and Temperance is rewarded with a knighthood. Temperance learns the importance of listening to others, and being honest and open.

Diamond

Fandom: The Muppets

Storyline: A fan story combining two of my favorite shows: Enchanted and The Muppets. Diamond is the Muppets assistant who wants to make it big as a star One night she comes across The Prince, who had been taken from his home dimension, and takes him in. Feeling a bit sympathetic towards The Prince Diamond teaches him about the modern world and brings him along to meet the Muppets. Because of The Prince's natural talent at comedy the Muppets sign him a gig at their upcoming show. Meanwhile Diamond learns to appreciate community and helping others (The Muppets) that it isn't just a one woman show.

Kendrix Tennyson

Movie: Tangled the Series

Personality: Hotheaded, thorny, passionate, protective

Love Interest: Varian

Story: A peasant girl who befriended Rapunzel and Eugene during the movie Tangled. She returns in the series as a maiden for Rapunzel, starts to become interested in astronomy. She befriends Varian but due to the events of Varian's betrayal she put their friendship on hold. Later it is revealed Kendrix has the power of the Earth Drop, and that she and Rapunzel must find the missing Moondrop to restore balance. The Moon Drop ends up becoming Varian (not Cass in a surprising twist); leaving Kendrix with complicated feelings over completing her mission or her friendship with Varian.

How “Lost In Thoughts All Alone” Connects To Each Route Of Three Houses

OKAY. SO RIGHT OUT THE GATE. I KNOW THIS SOUNDS MONUMENTALLY STUPID BUT HEAR ME OUT. I KNOW THERE IS 0% CHANCE OF THIS BEING INTENDED BECAUSE INTSYS IS INTSYS AND ALSO THESE ARE TWO ENTIRELY DIFFERENT WORLDS BUT THESE VERSES ACTUALLY FIT SOMEWHAT AND IMMA TRY TO BREAK IT DOWN. FAIR WARNING THERE’S GONNA BE SO MUCH STRETCHING THAT YOU’RE GONNA THINK YOU’RE IN A YOGA CLASS.

You can listen to the song itself in its entirety here, I’ll be going by verses and talking about the routes/characters I think each fits. And I’ll be putting this under a read more because I know this is going to be long also @iturbide​ here’s the essay

First Verse/Opening Verse - Byleth/Sothis

You are the ocean's gray waves, destined to seek Life beyond the shore just out of reach Yet the waters ever change, flowing like time The path is yours to climb

This one isn’t too difficult to talk about. This is the opening verse of the song, and the first verse Azura sings in Fates. This verse also plays in between almost all of the verses in the song - note I said almost. It also plays at the end of the song. This fits Byleth, and by extension Sothis rather well. Byleth is the driving force behind how each route, behind each character’s growth. They manipulate time, constantly going back in time over and over again, whether it’s to take another path, or to try and save a life. Byleth is the one with the power here, and no matter how many times they go back, no matter how they make time bend to their will, it always flows back - the “Golden Route” so many desire is always out of reach, no matter how many routes they play. 

And yet no matter what, you keep going back. Byleth, though I guess at this point I’m talking about the player, is destined to continue trying to reach that happy ending, they’re destined to keep searching for a way to make that happy ending a reality.

The path is yours to climb indeed - as many choose to try and make one, unaware that the path they create is one treaded many times over.

Birthright’s Verse - Dimitri Alexandre Blaiddyd (Azure Moon)

In the white light, a hand reaches through A double-edged blade cuts your heart in two Waking dreams fade away, Embrace the brand-new day Sing with me a song of birthrights and love The light scatters to the sky above Dawn breaks through the gloom, white as a bone Lost in thoughts all alone

I imagine the white light being referred to here being the reunion scene, and the hand as being Byleth’s. Remember how Azure Moon’s reunion scene left Dimitri shrouded in the darkness, and Byleth in the light? The double-edged blade here could refer to Edelgard herself - he may have been happy to reunite with his step-sister, but it was the reveal of her being the Flame Emperor that “cut his heart in two”, breaking his heart and making him fall victim to his rage. His “waking dreams fading away” to “embrace the brand new day” may refer to his ghosts, how they grow quieter (not quite disappearing entirely, but fading away for now) in the wake of Rodrigue’s death and Byleth’s words finally reaching through to him. 

“Sing me a song of birthrights and love” I think could refer to Dimitri’s mindset. He feels bound by his birthright as the future king of Faerghus, and the love he feels for both his family and his country. When Edelgard’s deception is revealed, a good chunk of the reason his breakdown is so bad is due to the fact she seemingly betrayed that love, betrayed the love that was shown to her by his father and her mother. He views it as her willingly betraying them and directly causing their deaths along with Glenn’s and the genocide of an entire country. He feels it is his birthright not only to right the wrongs committed by his country, but to avenge what happened to his loved ones. 

The next two lines I think reflect his finally quelling his rage, no longer letting it consume him. That “white as a bone” line I can imagine talking about his path - his intentions may have been honorable at the beginning, but his path is no less gory than the one he wanted the head of.

And the final line? It describes Dimitri for a good portion of Azure Moon. He’s lost in his thoughts, all alone, pushing away his support because he believes himself unworthy. 

Conquest’s Verse - Edelgard von Hresvelg (Crimson Flower)

Embrace the dark you call a home, Gaze upon an empty, white throne A legacy of lies, A familiar disguise Sing with me a song of conquest and fate The black pillar cracks beneath its weight Night breaks through the day, hard as a stone Lost in thoughts all alone

No I did NOT just pick this verse for Edelgard because of the conquest thing I PROMISE. I SWEAR THERE’S MORE TO THIS THAN JUST THE CONQUEST LINE I PROMISE

ANYWAY I imagined that first line referring to Edelgard marching home and assuming the throne. The Empire is far from a bright place, and she’s embracing it as she declares herself emperor in order to declare war on the church. The “empty white throne” line? It could mean one of two things, if not both. The first thing could be telling her to gaze upon Faerghus’s empty throne, the throne she made empty by killing her step-brother - even if she didn’t remember him being her brother. The second thing could be referring to Sothis’s empty throne, as she’s unknowingly following in the footsteps of Nemesis by killing the Goddess and her followers - first with the death of Seiros, and then the dissolution of Sothis’s crest stone (even if she didn’t directly play a part in the latter, Edelgard’s route is the only route where the crest stone disappears for good). If you stretch, you could also make it so that this refers to if you kill Claude, but the throne of Almyra wouldn’t be empty - it would just be angry and ready for war.

The next two lines could refer to the Agarthans. “A legacy of lies, a familiar disguise” could refer to Patricia and Arundel respectively. Edelgard’s mother was revealed by Cornelia to maybe having a hand in the Tragedy of Duscur and making that image of Patricia as a kind woman a lie - though this is in the Azure Moon route, so this could be handwaved. This line could instead refer to how Edelgard views Rhea and the church - they’ve passed on a “legacy of lies”, hiding the horrific truth behind the Relics and the Crests, claiming them to be gifts from the Goddess. The latter line, “a familiar disguise”, could be about Arundel. It’s revealed that Arundel is actually Thales in disguise, and Arundel is Edelgard’s uncle - someone she undoubtedly would’ve been familiar with. 

“The black pillar cracks beneath its weight” could be talking about the weight of Edelgard’s war. Even if the game states that Crimson Flower had no consequences in the end, there are undoubtedly consequences scattered across the land. The newly “unified” Fodlan would be cracking under that weight, with new cracks appearing with every new rebellion, every new attack. Every instance that could tell Edelgard that perhaps declaring war so hastily might have been a mistake. 

“Night breaks through the day” can very easily be equated to Edelgard’s war in conquering all of Fodlan. “Hard as a stone” would be her resolve - no matter what route you choose, Edelgard is steadfast in her belief that she is in the right. She never falters, never once wonders if she was wrong. Her only regret when you kill her in Azure Moon is wishing Byleth walked at her side - not regretting her war, regretting that Byleth was not on her side.

And of course, the final line. Edelgard is alone in her thoughts, even with Hubert seemingly knowing everything. She’s lost in her thoughts of conquest, and similar to Dimitri, vengeance. She may not be haunted by ghosts like he is, but she’s certainly haunted by her ticking clock and the deaths of her siblings as they fell in the experiments, one by one, until she stood alone. It could also refer to the ending of Crimson Flower - now that she’s won her war, what now? Stability would not come right away, and the increasing attacks and rebellions depending on certain choices could have Edelgard lost in her thoughts, perhaps wondering for the first time if she should have chosen differently.

((Fair warning, this is where most of the stretching begins - Revelations is strange in that it actually has 2 verses of its own - it has an opening to replace the “You are the ocean’s grey waves” verse, and a verse more similar to the other two routes.))

Revelation’s Verses - Claude von Riegan & Rhea/Seiros (Verdant Wind/Silver Snow)

The path you walk on belongs to destiny, just let it flow All of your joy and your pain will fall like the tide, let it flow Life is not just filled with happiness, or sorrow Even the thorn in your heart, in time it may become a rose

A burdened heart sinks into the ground A veil falls away without a sound Not day nor night, wrong nor right For truth and peace you fight Sing with me a song of silence and blood The rain falls, but can't wash away the mud Within my ancient heart dwells madness and pride Can no one hear my cry?

Again, there’s gonna be a LOT of stretching. I think that first verse might not actually be for Claude or Rhea exactly - that verse sounds a lot more like it’s meant for Byleth. Telling them to accept that they’ll not have their golden route, accept that life isn’t just happiness - but it isn’t just sorrow either. And yet Byleth persists. 

The second verse though - the first half I think fits Claude more, and the second half fits Rhea more. Though you could argue those last two lines also fit Nemesis emerging from Shambala in Verdant Wind - I don’t think so, but it’s there.

Claude’s definitely got a burdened heart - he’s got so many trust issues that if you could build with them, you’d have a skyscraper. But it’s through his interactions with the Deer, and by extension Byleth, that the walls he put up to protect himself slowly fall away. The mask he put on of a carefree individual silently gets dropped, and by post timeskip, you can see that Claude trusts his Deer - and Byleth, if this is Verdant Wind - with everything. He’s the neutral route in this, he doesn’t choose to fight for either side, his fight isn’t for either side. He’s fighting to destroy the borders between lands, fighting for the truth (in that his route is the one where you learn everything), and for peace, equality. He may be the funny upside down meme to most, but he’s the only one of the three to actually fight for truth and peace, the real versions of both - you don’t get to learn the truth in Azure Moon, and in you only get to see what Edelgard believes is the truth in Crimson Flower. 

Rhea’s the one who knows everything. She knows the truth behind the Relics, the Crest Stones, Crests, everything - and yet she stays silent. She stays silent, afraid that more would follow in the footsteps of Nemesis and bring more bloodshed - hence the “sing me a song of silence and blood”. The next line could refer to how no matter what she does, the darker parts of history wouldn’t be scrubbed away. Even if she did succeed in her attempts to bring back Sothis, in an attempt to wash away the dirt from their past, what then? Did she really think Sothis would welcome her back with open arms, with what she’d done to achieve her goal? And the last two lines...those are rather self-explanatory. Say what you will, for a time, Rhea did indeed go mad. She believed herself to be in the right, much like Edelgard did, and became furious when anyone said otherwise. That’s shown in her ruthless execution of those who opposed her, and her downward spiral in Crimson Flower. The final line, “can no one hear my cry?” may refer to how, even if one of her brothers and her niece were there by her side, neither knew what she had become. Neither ever knew what lengths she went to, nor did they know how much pain she was in to have driven her to madness, driven her to the belief that creating and killing at least twelve vessels in an attempt to create the perfect one for Sothis was right. Perhaps if someone had heard her cry, things would have been much different.

Interestingly, this is the only verse to not end with “lost in thoughts all alone”. If you think about it in the terms of Claude and Rhea, this may be for different reasons. Claude is remarkably well-adjusted for someone thrown into war - he gives a “power of friendship” speech during the final fight for crying out loud, if anything, he’s actually grown for the better. He’s not lost in thoughts all alone because he’s learned to actually lean on others for support. In Rhea’s case, her not being lost in her thoughts all alone would be for an entirely different reason - she isn’t lost in her thoughts. She’s not thinking clearly, but she isn’t lost like Dimitri or Edelgard. She isn’t so lost that she can’t command troops outside of “KILL EVERY LAST ONE OF THEM”, nor does she question if she was in the wrong like Edelgard might’ve had the latter won her war at the cost of stability. To the very end, she doesn’t regret her decisions - she may not have made them with a clear mind, but she knows what she did, and she isn’t lost thinking of what might have been. 

((TECHNICALLY there is one more verse, sung by Shigure in the Heirs of Fate DLC. The reason it’s not brought up? That one is much more context sensitive - the only line I can really think of fitting anywhere is “Endless dawn came but not without a price” possibly referring to the end of the war in every route, with “dawn” here referring to peace, and the price being the countless lives lost in the war. Then again, each route’s definition of “peace” is rather shaky, some more so than others, so it could refer to each individual leader’s goals being reached in their routes at the cost of a war.))

The dark letters stop after only three and when Sansa leans in closer she realises that she knows that name and she knows that handwriting already.

carve your heart into mine: Sansa spent many evenings sewing her wedding dress by the fire, dreaming of her husband. The gown spilled out of her hands like a silver river, burning brighter from the light of the flames. She had embroidered it with a noble husband in mind, but she wed her lowborn love in the godswood, with snowflakes falling on her veil.

Into the Darkness of the Grave: The tragic death of Eddard Stark’s cousin Lyanna brings her estranged son back to Winterfell House, the family’s old plantation home, for her funeral.

The Other Shoe: If anyone had told Sansa Stark that she would be married to Jon Snow, expecting a child with him at the age of nineteen she would have laughed at them. Not because Jon was a bad person, for he had slowly come out of his shell in the past seven years; not because she was young, her parents were married right out of Hogwarts; simply because Sansa Stark seemed to be the anthesis of a happy ending.

several sunlit days: Everyone knows you don’t date Robb Stark’s sisters unless you want to spend your days avoiding hexes and angry bludgers shot at your head. Too bad Jon’s traitorous feelings could care less.

the unexpected champion: Jon must swim to The Black Lake and retrieve something *cough* Sansa *cough* stolen from him. This task makes him realize who he should invite to the Yule Ball.

Where Did You Sleep Last Night: Sansa needs a new guitarist, Jon needs a new band, and the two of them definitely don’t need each other.

and labor till the work is done: Stark Industries is a family legacy she was hoping to avoid: Robb is a project manager, grooming to eventually be a partner, Arya is a summer intern with Bran sure to follow next year and Rickon in another three, and even Jon Snow, who is technically not family but who has been around for as long as Sansa can remember, works as an estimator. But Sansa is not who she was at sixteen or eighteen or even twenty and she’s still in the process of learning what’s truly important, like who she is, who she wants to be, and what kind of people she wants in her life.

One Of The Few Things: Jaime and Sansa spend a lot of time pining over Brienne and Jon together. Sometimes, they actually even do their jobs.

As his rukh turned black, Ren Gyokuen took advantage of her son’s new transformation to try to seize control for herself through him. Through her, he came to understand just how far this world had come and the fate of Alma Torran. Together, along with Ren Koutoku and Al-Thamen, Hakuyuu plotted their next step and his seat of control.

     On the eve of his twenty-second birthday, they struck. Fire and smoke rose into the air, screams echoing across Rakushou as he and his mother looked on from a balcony. Ren Hakutoku, the reigning Emperor, fell. Feigning grief, they held a grand funeral, and the same day Hakuyuu took the throne, sealing the Kou Empire’s fate.

     Quickly the country’s regime change. The seats on the council were replaced by those loyal to him and his mother, and darkness covered the land. People came to fear him and his rule. I figure that if the Shinigami put bounties over their heads after the first war, Lille would be one of the richest prizes. - Is your muse powerful: YES / NO ?  Could they be considered OP:  YES / NO ? Also they’re bringing forth a kingdom of heaven, so, Lille adamantly believes there should be no doubt as to the righteousness of their war. )

After his death, Lille would be broken and restless. )

Explain: Lille did not believe in the wholeness and the consistence of the hope for a Quincy nation before he came to meet Yhwach. Not only because he was young, but also because his world was extremely small, narrowed down to his and a few more families that, together with some regularly human ones, made up his community. Meeting Yhwach, coming in contact with his people and bonding with them over their belonging to the same group, certainly broadened Lille’s horizons. The oppression and deaths they endured over the centuries only contributed to further solidify his belief that the Quincy will never be free as long as Shinigami exist and retain the power to shape the asset of the world(s). He believes in their common dream, and he loves his people fiercely.

Explain here:   He perceives Soul Society as a paragon of evil, and although he’s not so well-navigated in the specifics of its politics, Lille knows it is rotten to the core. ‘Things’ in Soul Society cannot possibly go well as long as Shinigami have the power.

He left everything he knew and did everything in his power to find him, Lille worships him to the point of fanatism; being allowed to serve Yhwach is the greatest honor, and consequently, what’s most on his mind revolves around Yhwach and serving him well.  He also takes the matters of the Quincy to heart, and despite not being very sociable, he’s also fond of his comrades - he shared a lot with them.

Explain:  Lille is a character with more religious and spiritual implications than political, but every Quincy character is, in a way or another, affected by politics. He’s no exception, but because he has a kind of black-and-white worldview, he can be somewhat naive in that regard.

05.0. How do they feel in their current location: POSITIVE / NEGATIVE / NEUTRAL ? 05.1. Why is that?:  Quincy originally belong to the broad spaces of the world of the living, and Lille undoubtedly misses them. That said, the hidden state of the Wandenreich prevented the total extermination of a good chunk of their people and protected them for centuries, it’s his home and he’s adapted to it pretty well. As a sniper, hiding in the shadows of the enemy and waiting to strike is pretty much his natural condition.

If goal or not, any future plans? Share here:  Apart from the realization of Yhwach’s goal, his only ambition is to continue serving his king and the Quincy. I’m sure Lille would deny himself the possibility to fall in love and build a family, as it would be a distraction from a lifetime long vocation.

08.0. Who is the worst person in their eyes?:  Genryusai Yamamoto 08.1. What should happen to them?  Execution (quick / slow death) / Imprisonment / Stripped of their powers / Torture / Repay for their sins / Pay a Fine / Social Work / lose their loved ones / Exile / other… (add more). 08.2. Explanation:  He remembers Yamamoto’s flames vividly. He remembers the smell of burnt flesh of his comrades, the screams, and how the man (who was truly nothing more than a murderer who donned an aura of respectability) took their God and king away from them. The right to kill the man belongs to Yhwach, but Lille would have very much liked to put a gaping hole in his head.

Would they try to prevent it: YES / NO / DEPENDS ? 09.3. Explanation:  The Quincy are his people, lbr no Quincy would be alright with what was done to them. Lille is a very proud individual, and he could never cope with the shock, the shame, the humiliation and the pain of seeing his people, people like him that weren’t lucky enough to be protected by the Schatten Bereich, be systematically exterminated and experimented on. Just thinking about it makes him furious.

10.0. Would they ever switch sides: YES / NO ? 10.1. If yes, What could bring them to do so?:    - 10.2. Would they create a new one: YES / NO ?  or join a current one? If so, which:  Lille is a loner, truly like a sniper. He would never betray Yhwach, but post-war, I cannot see him actively searching for other surviving quincies to start a new community; he cherishes his solitude, and especially after the war, I think he’d be much more withdrawn in the attempt to cope with the defeat.

What does it involve?:  He’d do anything Yhwach asked of him, but as a general rule, he leaves children and civilians out of things.  11.2. What does it NOT involve?:  He doesn’t ‘fight fair’, he fights and kills mercilessly.

Visored:   positive / negative / neutral.   ━   because:  they’re Shinigami, and they’re Hollows. Also, the fact that despite what was done to them, they accepted to go back to Soul Society and now fight within the ranks of the Gotei? Huh. 

Espada:   positive / negative / neutral.   ━   because:  they’re Hollows, it doesn’t matter how human or civilized they might look. There’s always that ugly shudder crawling up his spine that makes Lille immediately pull the trigger. 

Quincy:   positive / negative / neutral.   ━   because:  again, they’re his people. He believe their war to be a righteous one and he’s protective of them. I’m not sure how important the concept of ‘Quincy pride’ is to Lille, because he’s already a proud individual and his pride stems largely from his bond with Yhwach, rather than from the simple belonging to the Quincy as a community. Lille doesnt’ even contribute much to their communal life anyway, so haha. Still, pride aside, he loves the Quincy, and that love made the slights against them brew a deep, burdening ire within him that carried on through the centuries.

Aizen:   positive / negative / neutral.   ━   because:  he’s a traitor of his kind, and even had the presumption to call himself ‘a god’. There’s no greater heresy.

Yhwach:   positive / negative / neutral.   ━   because:  not to get redundant but Yhwach is the God he worships, fights for, waited for. He crossed land and water just because, one night, he heard Yhwach’s voice calling him. He found his people and was given a purpose thanks to Yhwach, he fought in a war without hope for Yhwach. He waited almost 1000 years, patiently, for Yhwach to awaken and regain his senses. It’s difficult to express with words the link that ties the divinity and the devotee; i think it’s trust, wonder, faith and love. 

Mayuri:   positive / negative / neutral.   ━   because:  the idea that such a cruel, disgusting criminal still walks freely in the Soul Society as a high-ranked officer viscerally upsets Lille. He would kill him without even wanting to see that face of his.

Kurosaki:   positive / negative / neutral.   ━   because:  a Gemischt Quincy, brainwashed and exploited by Soul Society sounds like a terribly sad story. I think that, while not knowing him and acknowledging the threat Ichigo poses, Lille pities him.

Soul King:   positive / negative / neutral.   ━   because:  he respects the Soul King for what he has been and for constituting the primordial archetype of the Quincy people, but he sides with Yhwach in wanting to end the agony and the unacceptable disrespect paid to that poor creature.

Gerard: they are the oldest members of the Schutzstaffel (and Pernida doesn’t really count), the way they interact makes me think that there’s a familiarity between them you don’t see elsewhere. I think they’ve been together through a lot, having fought together and shared the same expectant devotion. They’re definitely brothers in arms and good friends.

    The paladins’ defeat of Sendak’s armada and Honerva’s latest robeast/mech ushers in some universal reprieve and a period of healing and restoration for Planet Earth. Keith is the last of the paladins to wake up, having sustained the most serious injuries from the lion fall and the battle before it.

    Two things happen upon his release from the hospital: he is promoted to the title of Commander -- making him the youngest O-5 in Garrison history -- and he is ordered to take a period of extended leave where he is to do nothing but focus on the healing of his wounds, both physical and emotional. Keith is too antsy to remain idle for too long, however, so Iverson agrees to let him provide occasional flight demonstrations and instruction to hopeful young cadets. He and the rest of the paladins all fall into a steady rhythm then, helping with rebuilding efforts for both the Garrison and planet Earth as a whole and relieved to have finally reached a period of peace.

    But that peace is only a short-lived illusion for Keith; at night, he’s plagued by weird, clairvoyant dreams. These dreams are partly after-effects of his time in the quantum abyss (clear visions of the past and blurry glimpses of the future) mingled with illusions fed to him by Honerva and her druids through his quintessence sensitivity. Unbeknownst to Keith, only some of the things he sees are real past events and true future possibilities while the rest are all fake: hurtful ‘memories’ set to twist his perception of the past and terrible bad-end type of events intended to rattle him and drag him further away from the people he cares about.

    Honerva’s goal? To finish what Operation: Kuron started and cripple Voltron through a psychological attack on its black paladin. With her biggest threat out of the picture, she’ll be able to bring back Lotor from the quintessence field with the power of Oriande and help him regain power as the Galra’s true emperor.

    Though Keith already suspects some of the things he sees in the dreams are not real, he has no way to explain them. Repressing what he sees, he attempts to carry on as usual, though his rising insecurities lead him to raise up walls that the others had dutifully worked to lower over the past few years. Eventually, the frequency and rising intensity of the dreams becomes suffocating and drives him to a point where he can’t even allow himself to sleep for fear of what he’ll see. 

    An attack on his person by the druids starts unraveling the mystery for him and ultimately directs team Voltron toward facing their greatest enemy yet: Honerva herself.

I don’t believe I’ve said this before, not once in my life, but this is a really great set of STAR WARS fics that really gave me a lot of feelings and just made me feel all fizzy and happy inside. One of the things I most appreciate about this fic is that it’s not grimdark for the sake of being grimdark or edgy, but that I knew from the outset that this wasn’t going to be a happy fic, that it does justice to what has happened to Obi-Wan and Anakin, that to have broken them, it must have been something so terrible that it can’t be undone again, that that’s how strong the characters were before and that’s what the weight of this story and these events mean. Where that’s ultimately headed, I’m still not even sure, but I’m eager to find out–even as I’m sad that there’s only one more chapter left, because I feel like, with the way things have been set up, it could be a bittersweet ending or it could be an entirely tragic ending. The bits of memory that have floated back, even the good parts, just hurt more for the contrast against what they are now and the associations of what happened later that they bring with them.    It’s also lovely for Ahsoka’s role in this, the emotion she brings to the reader and to the other characters, both when they do and don’t recognize her, she’s used so very well for that effect. It shows just how little of who they used to be is left, and yet there are still echoes, which is so sad, but is exactly what this scenario calls for. The fight against Ahsoka and the realization of what’s looming even beyond that, all of it has such great pacing, I could just read and read and read, if I had the rest of it available in front of them. The memories floating to the surface, the clashing of senses of self between Obi-Wan and Anakin and Sen and Koh, the fight with Ahsoka, the rapidly approaching next fight, all of it was beautifully done, there’s something so elegant about this story, something beautiful even as it’s horrible and broken. I’m going to be sad when this fic ends, but I’m also looking forward to the conclusion and having hurt feelings about it, in the exact way I should. ✦ Equinox by lilyconrad, obi-wan/anakin, NSFW, sith!obi-wan, 22.2k wip    During the Clone Wars, Obi-Wan and Anakin crash on a remote planet and take shelter in the ruins of a grand estate only to find they are not alone.    Chapter 4: This is an update rec and will focus on this chapter, rather than the fic as a whole. I’m also going split this rec into two parts, the first half will be my usual mostly non-spoilery version, the second will be a much more detailed reaction. Because I want to and I have things to say! Non-spoilery: I’ll preface this by saying that this fic was written for me and so it’s tailored to my wants, so I cannot speak with true objectivity on it, but I can still recognize when something is beautifully written and when it’s just ridiculously good. While reading this fic, it was like I could feel my brain lighting up from it, there was almost a physical feeling in my nerves for how much I enjoyed a certain scene in this chapter, where Obi-Wan and Isten (Sith!Anakin) have a conversation and it gets at the heart of what is so, so fascinating about these two pairs meeting–they’re not the same as their other self, but they are a negative image of each other, and that the contrasts are all there, beautifully done, but there’s also more comparisons than Obi-Wan (or Anakin) would be comfortable with. And it takes nothing away from the canon, nor does it make these beautiful Soft Sith versions any less the ones of my heart, and that’s exactly what I hoped for.    The tension in that scene, after the almost lazy and unhurried scene between Obi-Wan and Anakin, is incredible, that this Isten is recognizable as Anakin in some ways and everything that means to Obi-Wan, but he’s so different and that means the tone changes, it changes in the way the scene unfolds, in the showing of it, not the author telling it. And, oh, good god, that scene doesn’t even have to be explicit to be smoking hot, the imagery is ridiculously good, and the final scene, the reason why Obi-Wan goes, what he sees, what it says about those two as well as himself and Anakin, all of it just smacked my id down to the floor and told it not to get up again, in the best possible way. Of course, that’s not even all, there’s a growing mystery, there are little character details all over the place, and a beautifully creepy scene in the hallway that’s only a moment, but had me hooked for the plot, too, not just the gorgeous twining around all four of these characters do with each other.    SPOILERS: I think the above rec could be read without having read the chapter itself, but beyond this point I’m absolutely going to talk about specific things and I think the chapter is better read first–but I still want to do this because a) FEELINGS and b) I know I like reading responses from other people sometimes, too! I loved all of this chapter, it’s easily my favorite of the fic yet, I loved the way Obi-Wan and Anakin’s relationship is this friendship fraught with the same issues we all recognize from canon, that they care deeply about each other, but they’re wound tightly because of the war and that there’s that bit of distance between them that feels not right. Then along comes the Sith duo, especially Isten, who can’t help poking at them, for whatever reason he does it, because he’s bored, because he likes doing it, because Veris (Sith!Obi-Wan) wanted him to, because he has a plan, because he just wants to see things explode, or even just because Obi-Wan is still a version of his Master. And he’s so like Anakin in some ways, so much of a cocky attitude, so much power roiling through him, and yet he’s more settled in his skin than Anakin himself is, there’s something that feels like it’s clicked into place for him, and that scene does a lot to show Obi-Wan just exactly what that is. He needles this version of his Master with how he and Veris are together, how he listens to Veris, how Obi-Wan wants to know why that is, and then shows him.    It’s not even an explicit scene, but it was still one of the hottest things I’ve ever read, how he sinks to his knees and loosens his clothing and touches himself, softly pleads with his Master to touch him, how much he wants this. That Obi-Wan isn’t out of line to think that Veris forces him to be the way he is, to see him still wearing his tabards because Veris likes it (and that was a beautifully subtle touch, for further comparisons and contrasts), to see the way Veris grabs him by the hair to pull his head back, to hear Isten say that Veris has him every night, but that it unfolds and we see that it’s what Isten wants, that he enjoys the guiding hand Veris uses on him, that he easily gives it over for the control Veris can wrap him up in, despite his incredible strength and power. And that it’s a scene about the way Obi-Wan reacts, the iron in his voice when he commands Isten to stop that, the way Isten stills at it and the moment of intense satisfaction it brings Obi-Wan before he’s horrified, that spark of finally reigning Anakin in, finally putting necessary boundaries on him, then the guilt that he would enjoy it, despite that Isten flourishes under it, needs it. That comparison to go with the contrast, what it says not just about this other version of Anakin, but how it immediately turns thoughts to this Anakin, how little control he has over himself, how much more unsettled and unstable he feels, how much more angry he is, and it can’t help but intrigue.    Not that the fic is done with me yet! Oh, to have Obi-Wan happen to see Veris and Isten in the middle of actual fucking, especially after Anakin had stumbled over them as well, was delightfully executed here, it wasn’t just that it made sense, but that it got at my feelings, that this was still a version of Anakin and, if he was in trouble, Obi-Wan had to help him, no matter that it might have been a trap they were setting. It says everything about Obi-Wan, that he recognizes the potential risks here, he’s not blind about what it could be, but if there’s a chance, he has to help. It’s still Anakin. Even if it’s not, because the scene with the Jedi is… even when they’re sharing a room, even when it’s clear they’re very close, there’s that sense of distance, it’s something just a little less warm, which is so different from Veris and Isten, the sheer amount of intimacy and want. Of course it’s different, they’re in a different type of relationship, there’s going to be more of a specific kind of passion to lovers than there will be to friends, but I still felt it, it’s never said in the writing specifically, but I felt it.    The imagery in the scene Obi-Wan witnesses, as Isten’s hands are tied to the headboard as Veris fucks him, only an open tunic on him as his long legs wrap around his Master, everything else, even his glove, bared to his Master, no stubborness or forcing himself to be stronger than he is, just letting his Master hold him and have him and fuck him. Pleading for more of it, complately trusting Veris to have every part of him, parts Anakin keeps angrily hidden. And, oh, when Veris calls Isten Anakin, it’s this beautiful shock to my system, to Obi-Wan’s as well, that we’d gotten used to thinking of them otherwise, even with the reason he came here was because this was some version of Anakin, but to hear Veris say his name, to hold him so dear, how beautiful and wanted this Anakin is to him. When Isten comes at Veris’ command and then he rolls them over to have Isten continue riding him, the memories of the first time Obi-Wan had another man riding him like that, how everything about it twines together around the image of Anakin Anakin Anakin in my mind, was also gorgeous. I loved these scenes for the sex, they were ridiculously pleasing to me on a personal level, but it’s also all the things that aren’t so different after all, everything that’s being said about these characters and their motivations under the surface, what’s true about all of them, that’s what really light my mind up like I can’t even describe.    Of course, there is actually a developing mystery here–slow bits of plot being teased about why this mansion is here, what drew them to it, why the Force feels so strange here, what’s happening with Anakin at the end, what was the shadow that wonderfully creepy doing there, what do the journals mean or even say, who was watching them that wasn’t the Sith? All of it has me absolutely hooked, it’s all building and building and I actually loved this chapter enough to be satisfied for the next two weeks, but also that I am so ready for this fic to be in my hot little hands now. At least let me speak the truth to my love. At least. Please, she pleaded with them silently. “There is one Jedi—one whom I truly know all of us can trust absolutely …” Her voice trailed off into appalled silence when she realized that she wasn’t talking about Anakin.    This is a fic about exploring Padme’s character and her relationship with Anakin and that it’s a complicated, messy thing. There’s such passion between them, but Anakin is not stable and their relationship never developed strong foundations and this is a fic about Padme caring so deeply, but re-evaluating a lot of things in her life. I can understand how canon Padme got there, her compassion often overwhelmed her objectivity, so I was wary of this fic straying too far into Perfect Padme territory as much of fanon tends to do with her, but instead I got a really beautiful look at her character, how much she cares and loves, but she’s disturbed by things she’s seeing and the fic does a lovely job of showing the flaws in this relationship, how toxic it has become, while still obviously writing both of them with depth and sympathy. This is Anakin who is not in a good place, who is crossing boundaries he shouldn’t, who scares her sometimes, who cannot trust her even when she gives him no reason not to. This is not an easy thing, because Padme can’t help but feel how much pain he’s in, she can’t help but soften towards him when he’s trying to pull back from disaster, she can’t help but love him so much. It’s such a delicate balance, but this fic does justice to it, and I’m greatly looking forward to where it goes from here. ✦ Bad Actors With Bad Habits (Some Sad Singers, They Just Play Tragic) by citizenjess (givehimonemore), obi-wan/anakin, dark themes, read the warnings!, 5.9k    Tired of his Padawan’s poor behavior, Obi-Wan sets out to teach him an unorthodox lesson.    This is a fic where you should definitely read the warnings ahead of time, but I found that I really enjoyed this one because I knew what I was getting ahead of time and because what really got me were the little touches. The way Anakin is twisted around, wanting to be a Jedi and yet wanting something else, too. The way Obi-Wan is frustrated by him, but also clearly cares so much for him. The way Anakin is such an utter brat the entire way through this, the way he seems to desperately want Obi-Wan’s attention, for Obi-Wan to kiss him, to climb on Obi-Wan’s lap and ride him. And the sex was lovely as well, I greatly enjoy Anakin being this cheeky obnoxious little shit (that’s layered over the myriad of issues he has and how much he wants Obi-Wan’s attention and touch) who is eager to get Obi-Wan inside him already, to ride him until they’re both satisfied. For a story with dark themes, it’s one that doesn’t hit my embarrassment squick and instead engaged me the whole way through, so I’m glad I read it! ✦ Attachments by Shadow Padawan, obi-wan/anakin & cast, fluff, 1.1k    It had been attachment that had almost turned Anakin to the Dark Side. But it had been attachment that had forced Obi-Wan to go against the Council…    This is a short, but super cute, fluffy little piece where everything is happy and good and sometimes I just really, really need that! It’s a fix it AU and everything went right and now things are happy and sweet, which is what I was looking for when I picked this one up. :D ✦ It’s Not a Rule if You Don’t Try and Break It by avarand, obi-wan/anakin & ahsoka/barriss & mace/depa & cast, NSFW, a/b/o, 15k    The Jedi Temple takes matching its Alpha Sentinels and Omega Guides very seriously. All Omega Guides must register with the Republic and the Temple. Anakin refuses, but gets caught anyway. But if he meets enough candidates and still says no, they gotta let him go. Problem is, there’s this posh Alpha Jedi with auburn hair.    I read this fic in pretty much one sitty and it was exactly what I was looking for when I picked it up–it happily embraces the tropes of a/b/o, it does some world-building but doesn’t get too heavily into it at the expense of the characters and what I’m here for (the relationship between Obi-Wan and Anakin), it’s basically like a romcom with added alpha/omega elements thrown in. It was just fun, it seemed fond of all the cast that was included, I never had to cringe when anyone was on the page, like one of my faves was going to get treated badly, because it kept to that warm feeling. It’s not entirely soft, there’s stuff in the background that needed fixing, but what drew me to this one was that it felt good here, that this fic was kind to the groups that I loved! And then there was some very id-pleasing sex, where it was just like the courtship between Obi-Wan and Anakin, that there were occasional rough edges, but it was still pretty sweet, and Anakin got to be open and vulnerable as he pleaded to just fuck him already, just push into him and satisfy him already, and then Obi-Wan finally did and they fit together perfectly. It’s definitely a soft-edged fic and grabs hold of the traditional tropes with both hands, but that’s what I wanted when I picked it up, I wanted something that would be kind and gentle to me as a reader! ✦ Staggering Is For Those With Nothing To Live Up To by shiningjedi, mace & ponds & cast, 3.3k wip    Ponds has fought side-by-side with his general for over two years, so if Windu thinks that he can’t tell when something’s off, then, with all due respect, he’s made a serious error of judgement.    I really, really enjoyed seeing Mace & Ponds fic, it’s something we get so very little of, seeing Mace with the clones, and this isn’t terribly long yet, but I’m intrigued by it and I felt it was worth reading just to get some of the interaction here, to see Ponds being frustrated and fond by turns, as most clones are about the Jedi that lead them. It’s off to a good start and I would love to see more, but even just a glimpse gives me a lot of feelings for these characters all over again! ✦ Three People Who Knew But Never Told by LurkingCrow, luke & mon & pooja & kix & cast, 5.2k    A brief look at a few characters who might have guessed the secret of Luke’s parentage, but canonically either never did or never said so.    Oh, this was a lovely and bittersweet series of exactly what it promised, that it’s little scenes and character explorations that could so easily have fit between the scenes of canon and work together with it perfectly. The choice of characters is an interesting one, but each one of them makes sense, each one of them had enough information and had seen Anakin and Padme together enough to know, and each of them had reasons to keep their silence. Each one of them is such a strong, good look at each character and the strength of their motivations and care for this person they’ve only really seen from a distance mostly, it’s a collection of scenes that show the weight of what happened to this galaxy, that these three are such clear examples of the strength people have and the weight they try to bear up under, what the Empire has done to everyone. There’s so much oppression and suffering here but they each survive in their own way. And, oh, it’s such a good look at them looking at this child of Anakin and Padme, balanced between the hope he brings and how much they miss the people that he came from. ✦ It’s the Greatest Thing You’d Ever Imagine by WinterSky101, obi-wan/anakin/padme & bail, empress!padme, 2.1k    Padmé is crowned Empress of the Galaxy.    This fic is sort of two things at once–the first half is about Padme accepting the title of Empress of the galaxy and the second half is about the Obianidala banter. I enjoyed the look at Padme’s character and I enjoyed the banter between the three of them, the way they all played off each other, especially when Anakin is a petulant brat in a really adorable way, Anakin and Padme really were the highlight of this piece for me! ✦ Hello Again verse part 1 / part 2 by delicatefury, obi-wan & anakin & cast, 2.3k wip    When Anakin Skywalker is born, Obi-Wan Kenobi is flooded with dreams-memories-visions of a life already lived.    These are two scenes from a much larger AU, which hasn’t been written yet but oh boy did these two pieces capture my attention something fierce and are already giving me the good stuff, so even if nothing more comes of this one, I’m already happy. It’s an AU where they both are flooded with memories much earlier on and Anakin knows that his Very Important Person is a Jedi and is somewhere in the Temple and, oh my god, I didn’t know how much I needed an AU where todder!Anakin is looking for someone, the Jedi don’t know who, they think it’s someone else, and then eventually, WHAM, he and Obi-Wan are finally reunited in the most hilarious and adorable way pretty much ever. I had so many feelings during their reunion (and almost-reunion!) and the writing is so sharp and perfect and engaging, I practically grinned until my face hurt the entire way through both pieces, I loved them so much.

Part IV: Pierre Bezukhov

The titles are run across images of the Battle of Boradin in paintings, which somehow look worse than the film did. 

The attack of Moscow by the French is being considered. The unthinkable is now being discussed as to how to deal with a reality. 

The General chooses to give the order to retreat beyond Moscow, rather than fight the French, preventing their advancing to the Holy City. 

The area is evacuated. The home where Nataša walked among its rooms singing is now stripped of its belongings and the family prepares to flee. 

Napoleon waits outside the city for a group to come to him and hand him the city. Word comes to him that it is empty, and we see the spooky reality of empty streets in one of the world’s greatest capitals. 

Emperor Napoleon now takes Moscow and surveys conquered streets. The churches with their gilded portraits of Christ and the saints, the sacre blue of tiles and paintings, the unrestrained wealth of the Orthodox Church on display. It is insanely ordained. 

Word comes to the people who have fled that Moscow is burning and we see it on the horizon.

Word also comes to Nataša that Prince Andrei is wounded from the battle in the last film and may die. Nataša sits in a chair and doesn’t eat, doesn’t sleep, doesn’t speak. She will not be kept from him.

Nataša goes to Andrei’s bedside where he says he loves her now more than ever before. 

Count Pierre hides his identity with the hope of infiltrating the agency troops and killing Napoleon himself. 

In the midst of the carnage, he encounters a woman whose grandchild is believed lost in a fire which engulfed their mansion. The daughter leads him literally through a field of flaming ground to eventually discover the child in a rear garden. The family is nowhere to be found when he returns with the daughter. 

There are more fires than anything else you can point to. 

He gets in a tussle with soldiers looting, and is taken prisoner. 

Everywhere is chaos as the French loot the city of treasure, simultaneously setting it alight and carousing. Men are hung seemingly at random. Hospitals for the insane and intern are torched. Men are shot tied and blindfolded. Soldiers drink from vast casks of wine and spirits, as huge buildings collapse in flames. Tapestries are thrown from windows to be ignored and trampled. 

Meanwhile in St Petersburg, news of the destruction is met with something not quite approaching belief or understanding. Of more import to them is Hélène’s death. 

Back in Moscow, Count Pierre is considered a Russian spy and will be shot in a cabbage field. The group of people sentenced to death is tied in pairs to a stump and shot, them cut down, dragged away, and then next pair is brought into place. 

I’ve been waiting this entire time to see this image in the story. — — — —

We watch as a single teenaged male is shot in slow motion, then we see his view as he is buried in the earth below the stump. 

Pierre revisits the memory later, in a dream, for he has somehow he spared. 

He finds shelter in a burnt husk of a shed, along with others like him. 

Prince Andrei recuperates in a white plastered room somewhere over a large body of water, where Nataša sits nearby, knitting. He feels he will die, but she assures him he will survive. He sleeps, dreaming that society is coming past him, almost reviewing him. His ghost, or spirit, perhaps, walks from the room and opens a vast door, to a room beyond which is endless and dark, and he enters it. He has dreamed of death. He wakes, his sister and younger brother greet him, but it is goodbye.

Fade to white, cross-fade to clouds, fade to black. 

We see General Kutsov who gave the order to abandon Moscow. He knows history will judge him harshly. 

Napoleon wanted peace, but received no word of it, nor any answer at all. They march from Moscow, abandoning the city they held for a short time. They take with them the prisoners captured in the Mother of Cities, shooting those who cannot march in the mud any longer. 

Pierre realizes that life continues, and death is a part of it. At the beginning of the first film, we see things growing, and that we all are a part of the whole: we grow from it, we return to it, we are of it all, all of it is us and we are all of it. All we go to is home, and all of life is the same to experience. It’s a bit like the Buddhist view of everything being interconnected. This, when a soldier tells him to keep to the area for prisoners, he cannot help but laugh at the notion that he must stay in one area when all of the world is the right place for everyone.

At 1:16, we shift to back and white for a couple of shots. Is it there for the effect of mist and fog reducing the colour? Then we’re back to full spectrum for a reunification sequence, then we’re back to black and white for a death, then back to colour again as the news reaches the dead boy’s mother. Odd. There must be a reason for that…?

The French troops, lead by Napoleon, Prince of Vicenza, now march west through the lands they razed on the way east. Food is unavailable because they destroyed it on the way into Russia, and any which might be still there is covered by snow. Soldiers, prisoners, civilians alike, all fight for places near fires, hacking at carcasses of horses and cattle which are frozen solid, hoping for some food. Corpses are scavenged for clothes to keep warm. Forests are searched for anything that can be fed to fires. Oddly, everyone begins sharing songs half-remembered and those who know some verses join them with other’s memories. In desperate times, all become brothers.

Because the French are gone, General Kutsov declares a great victory! It may be insane, but for the sake of people’s self-worth, it is an important declaration. ‘The bad guys have left’ allows the episode to end and rebuilding to begin. Life mist be rekindled, and this is how it starts to happen.

We end as we began, with the idea that, if evil men become stronger when they come together for a common purpose, so then do honest men. This, we must all work together for a common goal.
