day 3: desperately pining/relaxing

summary: macaque and kier train together, just like old times.

In Kier's backyard, there was a large patch of dirt that was surrounded by walls of flower bushes and trees, and that was where Kier spent their days training, that is if they had any free time at all.

And now of course, Macaque was practically begging on his knees to train with Kier, just for once.

"C'mon, It'll be just like old times. You used to kick my ass almost every single match, remember?" Macaque said softly as he brushed his tail against Kier's back slyly, his breath hot against their neck as he stood behind them.

Kier grumbled, dropping the half eaten sandwich on the plate. They turned to face Macaque's pleading eyes.

"Fine. But just this once." Kier emphasized, in a stern voice.

Macaque gleamed, grabbing their hand and dragging them off the dining table chair. Macaque scattered to the back porch, despite Kier's protests to slow down.

Once they both stepped onto the patio, Macaque took a breath of the cold autumn air, the red and orange fallen leaves twirled around their feet. Kier's golden retriever, Naga, was fast asleep on the porch— enjoying the cold weather just as much as Kier and Macaque.

Macaque let go of Kier's hand, lingering for a split second before stepping onto the dirt. Kier follows.

They stand on opposite sides of each other, both in a fighting stance. There was a purple glint in Macaque's eyes, as he gave a subtle smirk. “Just so you know, I’m not gonna go soft on you.”

Kier stifled a laugh. “You know I like a good challenge.”

Kier grounded themselves as they took a breath in. They balled up their fist, hardening their gaze.

“Ready?” said Macaque.

Kier nodded, snarling.

And with that, they both barreled towards each other. Macaque was the first one to land a punch right in the gut, knocking back Kier. They waved their arms to regain balance, head swung back and legs tensing up. Kier let out a pained wince.

Quickly recovering, They regained their posture. Kier ran towards Macaque as he hovered above the ground, seamlessly taunting them.

They jumped up, turning their body in a full circle as they went in for a kick. The wind swung with their raised leg.

This time, a gust of fire seemingly comes out of thin air in front of the two of them, like a wall. Macaque reacted quickly, shielding his face as he fell back onto the solid dirt surface, feet making a harsh ‘thump’ sound.

Smoke filled the air as the fire died out in mid air, Kier hits the ground with a thud.

“Fire, huh? Last time we fought like this, you could barely make a puff of smoke!” Macaque mused with a grin as he multiplied himself into two, his shadow clones, running towards Kier.

“Well, there’s more where that came from.” quipped Kier, with a slightly strained voice as they landed a punch on Macaque, another wave of fire barreling towards him.

As Macaque dodged, he switched to his shadow form and practically melted to the ground, blended in with the darkness.

Kier used their strength to push one of the long stems from a nearby rose bush. Kier made the stem latch around one of the shadow clones. The other shadow clone tried to pounce on them, Kier swiftly jumped back. They were glistening with sweat, breath starting to grow heavy.

As soon as the stem tied up the first clone, it vanished. Kier sighed in relief, Plant and earth magic was much harder than fire magic, Kier learned that a long time ago.

Now Kier had to worry about the other clone and Macaque himself. The clone was sprinting towards them. Kier tried to keep an eye on the ground as they scratched the shadow with their sharp claws. It too went away like a wisp of air.

The silence that followed afterwards was almost suffocating. There was nothing but the gentle blow of the wind. Kier glanced around, knowing that he was somewhere beneath those shadows.

That was soon interrupted when a firm hand latched onto their shoulder.

“Over here..” Macaque whispered softly just over their shoulder, that same purple glint from before radiating in his eyes. Before Kier could even turn around, Macaque pounced right on them. They both rolled over on the ground, wrapped in each other like a hive of bundled up honeybees.

When they finally stopped barrelling over each other, Macaque was right on top of Kier, pinning them down. The sun peeked through the stormy clouds just as Kier opened their eyes, they whirred and gently groaned as they felt a twinge of pain all over their body.

Macaque only looked at them with wide eyes, panting, sweat dripping off his face.

Kier’s mouth went slightly agape as Macaque’s eyes glistened in the light. His golden eyes almost complimented the fiery star in the sky. His raven tufts of fur and hair had a blue-ish tint, glowing just like the moon’s light.

Kier didn’t struggle against Macaque’s grasp. He was an aggressive flame that could ravage forests with an easy sweep, and Kier would happily burn in those flames if they could feel that warmth.

There was a gentleness in his gaze, Kier could feel their face become warm flesh as they breathed in his scent.

Macaque could only think of how Kier’s brown eyes were like pools of golden honey, and how badly he wanted to run his fingers through their hair while staring into those eyes. He knew it would feel like clouds, or cotton candy.

And Macaque had an urge, a need— to kiss them until their knees buckled and their mind clouded up, he wanted to make them forget about everything.

God, they just looked so kissable.

Kier gulped, before speaking after a long silence. “Alright, alright, I surrender.”

Macaque sighed, pushing away any previous thoughts. He dropped right on top of Kier, resting on them like they were the most comfortable bed in the world. Macaque closed his eyes. Kier sort of layed there, a bit stunned.

But slowly, Kier raised their hands up to latch onto Macaque. Before Kier can rest their hands on him, he tensed up. They wondered if that was a sign to back off, but Macaque slowly relaxed as Kier gently placed their hands on him. One on his back, and one in his soft hair.

Kier scratched and ran their fingers through Macaque’s hair as he was cradled in Kier’s neck. Their eyes were locked on the sky as they counted each breath Macaque took in their mind. He let out quiet and gentle purrs.

Macaque slowly opened his eyes. He wanted to say something, something that Kier would remember. Those words he desperately needed to say trailed in his breath.

“Kier?” Macaque spoke up.

“Hm.” Kier hummed, looking down at the man in their arms.

“I..” He trailed off, recollecting what he wanted to say.

“I missed this. I missed you.” Macaque said under his breath.

Kier sucked in a breath, eyes widened slightly. Macaque felt the tension in the air, and he wished he could take back every word, every action leading up to this point.

That is, until Kier gently smiled. Kier wrapped their arms around him tighter, and Macaque took them in an embrace, just as they had done.

“I missed you too, Macaque. I missed you so much.”

There was a whole weight lifted off of his shoulders, and everything was light again.

Naga woke up from his slumber, quickly sprouting up and going to sit beside the two. Naga flopped beside them, as Kier reached to pet the dog’s fur. Macaque quietly chuckled.

“Let’s stay here for a while, then we can go in for some tea.” Kier whispered against him as they buried their nose in his hair, softly breathing.

Macaque smiled.

“I’d like that.”
