this time, nagito had a go at trying to untangle the blanket; having better luck than you, he got it out in one pull, deeming finally successful as you let out a muted yet victorious “yahoo!”

absentmindedly rubbing your cold foot against nagito's legs underneath the loose and wrinkled covers, you laughed as you watched him wince. "s/o, your feet feel like iceblocks." nagito somewhat pouted, before realization hit him.

"but i don't mind." a smile spread to his face like a disease, he had this expression that looked like he had just thought of something extremely clever.

making the worst romantic gesture in the history of romance, he decided it'd be cute to entangle his toes with yours. "i'll be closer to hope after all."

not like this, dude. not like this.

"n- nagito..." you nearly pleaded.

stars traced his face when he smiled as if nothing was wrong, even though he had practically committed a felony... of boundaries. "yes, my hope?"

"... n- nothing, let's just play." you stammered, 'it's okay, it was cute.' you said to yourself.

after a moment of composure, you gave nagito a controller and yourself the 'player one' controller, so you could choose the menu and etcetera just in case nagito didn't know how it worked. "have you played before?" you asked with half your attention on him, snuggling back into him as you faced towards the large screen, already selecting your character.

"i have. a couple rounds, actually; with chiaki. we ended up tying." he smiled fondly at the memory, thumbs fiddling with the familiar controls as he recalled the day they tied to an unbelievably clutch match.

"wow, really?" you mumbled, slightly perplexed. "i would assume she would win, but i guess your luck kind of evens it out, huh?" you relaxed your neck against his shoulder, glancing at him.

"well... sort of." nagito tilted his head as he thought of how he'd explain, "at the start, she had actually been the one winning with astonishing numbers... seriously astounding. i got to see hope firsthand... anyway- but then i'd keep getting all the good power-ups, especially this one shinier one — i apologize, my hope, i'm not exactly familiar with the game — and before i'd know it, my thumb would slip and i would end up accidentally winning." the soft clicking of the buttons stopped as he finally chose his character at the end of his sentence. it was luigi. not mario, luigi. just because he thought he was too shitty to be a primary character.

"chiaki insisted on doing best out of 5, but i kept miraculously beating her with the powerups, and yet also getting launched off the cliff by my own thumbs, so i doubt it was very fun for her."

you had stopped fiddling with your controller too, because now you were really invested in the battles of nagito and chiaki and how their ultimate evened out.

"i had half a mind to make her win for hope, but chiaki would catch on every time." you chuckled, "well, that's chiaki. she was always pretty observant, huh?"

he smiled back at you, wrapping his arms around your waist instead of awkwardly hovering his hands above your head like he was doing earlier. "well anyway, i'm sorry for boring you with the details of my catastrophic luck. are you ready to play?" his hands rested comfortably at your lap.

"yup. let's hope i'm good enough to at least tie with you."

"i'm certain you'll win, s/o. you're my greatest hope after all." nagito glanced underneath his chin and at your face; revealing to you, his expression that you just knew, was one of slight mischief.

"i know that look... well then, fine! in the name of hope, i forbid you from letting me win." you craned your neck up, sticking your tongue up at him challengingly.

you saw through him in 0.5 seconds. what a record!

normally, people would feel a bit defeated, but all he thought of was how hopefully amazing that was.

"okay, okay. i promise i'll do my best." he yielded.

as soon as you caught his thumb hovering over the button to press continue, you quickly stopped him before he could start the count-down of the game.

"oh, wait! i almost forgot!" you yelped, turning around quickly in his lap.

"what is it?" nagito spoke softly, looking a bit worried.

you slowly looked up at him, acting as if you had to muster all your courage to do so. "could i get my good luck kiss? pretty please?"

nagito blinked once at you.

then twice.

"s/o... this could also mean a really bad luck kiss, you do realize that?" nagito warned, tone half-serious as to not ruin the already playful mood you had tried so hard to set.

"of course i do, but i'm still willing to! it's worth it."

you continued, this time, with your eyes glued to his. "because, nagito, you're worth it to me." you knew how important it was to assure him, because, although you couldn't read every single thought in his mind, you just knew he was putting himself down. he always had that same kicked-puppy look when he did.

he truly hoped you meant it, because even if you didn't, it'd be too late to take it back. his heart had already absorbed the memory of you saying that, and the giddy feeling he had gotten in return for it felt like 10,000 feeling punches.

“then i hope you don't mind me reciprocating the feeling.” he beamed back at you, leaning in for a soft, gentle kiss he hoped you enjoyed as much as he did.

he was smiling. you've never been so happy to see him smile— and that was enough to put a smile on your face too.

"i'm so glad someone like you had trusted someone like me with this information about yourself." nagito grinned, his heart feeling full and grateful; it was a bit weird to be feeling this happy, but he always felt happy and worthy when you trusted him with information about yourself, when you opened up just a little to him. it made him feel like he was good enough for you, even if he didn't always feel like he was.

you sniffled, brain falling down from the adrenaline as you soon felt waves of emotion hit you. you felt a bit stupid for feeling so worried; of course nagito would accept you, he's nagito. "sorry- i was- i guess i was a little nervous..? haha." you chuckled sheepishly.

"i'm truly sorry to make you feel like you couldn't tell me about stuff like that, but i guess i can't blame you... i'm me, after all." nagito groveled,—speaking as if being himself was the worst thing you could've ever been cursed with—before smacking himself upside the head.
