This ask is about the post you reblogged with the Ultima voting and I agree: Ultima is not a perfectly written character at all, but most of his critics are definitely comparing him with other FF Villains.

The funny thing is if he was written like a revisit of characters like Sephiroth, Kefka or even Garland pre or post-Stranger of Paradise; everyone would whine anyway.

Which is ironic, as technically he IS a revisit of a FF villain: The Final Fantasy Tactics' Ultima, who basically acted the exact same way as he did, with the sole exception that she didn't act as a god creator. Said game that some critics also whine that FFXVI isn't: a dark and tragic story for the heroes, realistic politic drama, mysterious conspiracy in the shadows, powerful magical beings- wait what do you mean FFXVI also has that? ...And yet, funnily enough, it was reviled when first released in 1997 because it was a spinoff, had a weird and complicated gameplay and THE new hot stuff FFVII came first.

Life is funny that way. If annoying...

Yeahhhh...There is a long and terrible tradition with Final Fantasy in general where the newest game gets lambasted as awful until the next one comes out, at which point the previous starts to be hailed as a misunderstood masterpiece.

And I'm just not into that. Life is short and the clock is never not ticking. If I dislike a game enough that I'd want to publicly bitch about it, I just stop playing it. No sense in giving it more oxygen, and even less sense in giving others with a different opinion grief.

As for Ultima, my argument was that there's nothing particularly wrong with how he's written, but that some people just don't like him because he's not their favorite archetype. I see a lot of that--people deciding that "not my favorite kind"= "flawed writing". This is annoying to me, because it shows that some folks just don't know how to discern between their personal opinion and objective analysis, or are so attached to their opinions that they treat them as facts, which in my book is a symptom of extreme arrogance. And what usually follows on the heels of this arrogance is mean-spirited behavior towards other fans who don't agree with them...and on and on.

Only one! Most of mine are all in FF.net, maybe one day I'll post them there, but for now, yeah, single fic.

2. What’s your total Ao3 word count?

Today (10/30/2023), measly 45k, but I'll be posting two chapters this week, so... 50k soon?

3. What fandoms do you write for?

Now, Spider-Man and Batman, but I've mostly published Doctor Who fics, usually crossovers.

4. What are your top 5 fics by kudos?

5) Maelstrom in the Darkness - An Essay on Blindness: What if Uzumaki Naruto had been incurably blind from birth? Oh, I wish I had time to write more, so many ideas, so LITTLE TIME!

4) Smoke on the Water - The Untold Stories! Based on the popular "Smoke on the Water" story by Sir-Mercutio-McHuffer, who authorized me to publish chapters as a separate, sorta-not-exactly-canon bonus chapters!

3) Different Doctors Meet a Most Unique Universe: after a talk with @zaziecurie , I started writing this collection of short stories about The Doctor in Steven Universe's reality, different takes as his many incarnations (4, 10 and 12 posted, but I had other ideas)

Sure, always! I don't have too many comments, but what I get, I try to reply on the same day or the following, at most!

My short story Destiny is Not A Game , in FF.net, based on the finale of the game X-Men: Destiny.

Hate in ao3? Maybe... overzealous criticism?

Used to, but they are for my wife's eyes only !

Currently, Spider-Man x Batman comics, but the craziest were my forays into Doctor Whooves stories (my focus, as always, had been more of a whovian than ever a brony, I'll admit)

Nope! Maybe I'll do it myself for Arachnomaly, one day!

Yes, long time ago, but never published it - it was a crossover with The Idealist 33. Actually, I fibbed, I heavily edited a chapter for their story, Doctor Whooves?, chapter 7, which almost makes it half mine, kinda?

Oh, wow, let's see, there are so many... NaruHina ? Though I always had a spot for NaruIno? In RWBY, Dragonslayer, just for the fics I've read. Peter Parker x Kitty Pryde, just because of the Ultimate Comics, but PeterxMJ for life.

15. What’s a WIP you want to finish but doubt you ever will?

Well, "Spider-Man Must Not Ruin the Future" is an old project, Spectacular Spider-Man crossover with X-Men: Evolution, trying to integrate both realities in one story.

Also an untitled story where the six original Mighty Morphing Power Rangers get saved by the arrival of Black Dino Thunder Ranger, hilarity and feelings ensue (those who know, will understand the potential!)

16. What are your writing strengths?

I've been told that, when I get the character, I REEALLY get them. Like,

If I feel the chapter needs to be short, it will be short. Sometimes, I can get too concise for my own good.

Also mispeling, but I've been getting better, I think.

18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language in fic?

I'm always writing in another language, but I've been venturing on writing a character who communicates mostly in ASL.

Like you said, Araki didn't explored nor studied well how the mafia works, as the canon hierarchy shown is missing an actual underboss (the actual 2nd in command, consiglieri is the advisor and equal to the don). So basically, Doppio is the underboss as he's the one who orders the Unitá Speciale. To be an actual consigliere, Doppio would have to give advice & argue with Diavolo to ensure that the latter doesn't eff up things. Which considering the canon... yeah. Which-

Lmao, you bring up a really good point there. (That kind of makes me wish there was an AU of this dynamic that existed.)

The best thing I can come up with for all of the inaccuracies is that Diavolo's paranoia and power-lusting makes him not trust or want to have any second-in-command or equal to argue with him, so he intentionally messes up the typical power structure in order to be the sole one in control (in which case it's kind of a wonder how well he manages to run the mafia tbh...) but yeah, I think the more likely answer is just that Araki didn't really know what he was doing.

Hello. Sorry to bother you. I'm sending this ask, because an idea for a fic came to me and it's based on your fic "The Tower". The plot still needs to be worked on, but its focus is on the aftermath of the ending and what happens to Clive. What I would like to ask is if I may write it? I'll perfectly understand if you don't feel comfortable with these kind of things (having a work based on your own work/ideas) or simply don't trust on my writing. It's no problem. É o único senão daquele post é mesmo a linguagem. Sim, há turistas tão rudes que só apetece dar-lhes um chuto na cara (especialmente quando se trabalha no turismo). Mas se vou pedir alguém que respeite o meu país, eu não começar a falar de forma agressiva e toda "edgy". O mais provável é que nem toda a gente vai levar a sério e vai fazer pior.

Ainda ficam a pensar ‘wow se os portugueses são todos assim nem vale a pena visitar’ haha. Acho que nós recebemos muito bem e a realidade é que Portugal precisa do turismo. Concordo com tudo o que está no post porque sim, existe gente sem noção nenhuma. Mas acho a agressividade completamente desmedida e desnecessária. Enfim.

@zaziecurie I know what you mean. They may be the first ones to release the chapter, but the quality of their translation has been going downhill.

The thing with Jaimini’s Box is that they take longer, but they do a more accurate translating job. This week, for example, the chapter wasn’t even up yet at 4am today (2 days later than Mangastream) when I went to sleep, but it was well worth the wait.

Another site I enjoyed was PowerManga, although sadly, they haven’t been translating and uploading anything for a while now. They used to take even longer than JB, but their translations were amazing.

Yup! Specter of Torment’s just not coming out for the other consoles until April and details about King Knight’s DLC haven’t been released yet.

Só 1 pequena nota: não gosto mt da cena entre a Irene e a Amelia na ver. espanhola. A razão é devido ao motivo da Irene: daquilo q percebi, como a Amelia é feminista, logo esta será lésbica. O que é estranho já que a Irene vem dos anos 60 e teve contacto com o séc. XXI antes da série começar. Não sei explicar, mas parece tolo o motivo. Espero que na ver. Tuga, esta Irene terá melhores motivos para beijar/namoricar outra(s) mulhere(s) -anos 60 = free love p.ex-

Também achei um pouco vindo do nada no original, mas se pensarmos bem a Irene espanhola é um bocado atiradiça (apesar de estar casada!!!) com quase todas as mulheres com que interage, para mim faz sentido nesse contexto. A Irene vem dos 60? Tinha ideia que vinha dos 30...ou isso foi coisa que mudou na versão portuguesa?
