A solo stan who is thinking about checking other groups out?
There is nothing wrong with being a solo stan (as in only liking 1 group) as long as you are kind and courteous to other groups.
Also this post might not be for you.
But if you are a solo stan (usually starting with BTS) or just in need of finding new groups and thinking about spreading your wings here are some suggestions. 🙂
When I first got into kpop way back in the 2010 years I had no clue what I had stumbled on and I only liked 2 groups max for the longest time because I didnt know about any other groups. Since then I’ve come to love so many groups that I wish I knew about sooner.
Now mind you. I am primarily a boy group stan so there are not a lot of girl groups on her so please forgive me. -*edit I’ve decided to do a part 2 of just girl groups so stay tuned
This is also under the impression you already know BTS and their brother group TXT.
also if your fav is not on this list I dearly apologize. I picked groups that might be a good intro to like multiple groups.
Groups down below ˅˅˅˅
SEVENTEEN:
-13 Member group under Pledis Entertainment.
- Debuted May 26, 2015
-Popular in Korea and slowly gaining popularity internationally.

-In October of 2019, member Wonho (the orange hair in the gif) left the group due to rumors and lies being spread about him. He didn’t want to hurt Monsta X’s reputation so he left the group but fans have strongly opposed this, fighting for starship to help clear his name and have him return. The protest continues on even after almost a month.
(Trust me, if you knew this group and Wonho, you would understand why fans are opposing this.)

Broduce 101: Episode 5 (The Fanservice Filler)
Get yourself a glass of water, kids, she’s a long one.
The episode opens up with BoA coming in to talk to all the trainees about the strain of their situation, sympathizing by recalling her own trainee days in SM’s prison cells studios and her debut in 2000. She talks about her own lack of confidence after performances that didn’t go as well as she’d hoped, and the importance of true ability. She’s so cute, worrying for a minute that it sounds like she was showing off her immense experience, but it’s bracing to remember that legends start out where they did, had the same concerns and tears.
BoA must have had a tough trainee life; maybe not as fiercely competitive but definitely not as well organised as the SM trainees that followed. Considering she debuted at 15, it’s remarkable how much she’s accomplished, but it must have been lonely as a teenaged solo female singer once she started out in a foreign country. They really should have brought her on in Season 1: she would have related even more deeply to the female trainees, and they to her.
Cut to sad shots of the boys working hard at their dream as that mournful Nayana instrumental plays.
This episode has Season 1′s Yoojung, Sohee and Sohye on the guest panel for their comments. It’s nice to see the girls again, even knowing that they’ve only been brought on to react appropriately to the script and move it along.
Sidenote: Every time I see Sohye I feel a fresh sense of appreciation for kpop stylists, she looks so put together, nothing like her first appearance on this mess with those wispy bangs and the badly done lip colour gradation.
We move onto a montage of the 98 trainees entering the set with the chairs of doom. They’re all very cheerful, prettied up with some hair changes - a far cry from the shivering wet kittens that rolled in the first episode. They all do some highly entertaining extra poses, mostly sticking to the old faithful kpop heart. Here’s a few that stood out to me:
Cube chicks did some chic hearts.
FNC Yoo Hwiseung did a lip swipe that led to a heart. They both made me miss Nam Woohyun.
Me, an Inspirit: When will my boys return from war
Yuehua boys were the Power Rangers.
Hip Hop President Jang Moonbok did a hair flip. Get him that shampoo commercial @pantene
Kim Taemin hooked his arm under his leg to do a finger heart. A cutie.
K-Tigers Byun Hyunbin danced and winked.
The Ardor & Able Hotshot boys did a pose from their audition routine. I said this before, but Noh Taehyun’s ashy blond is a good look.
Star Road Takada Kenta made a face that makes him look like a puppy as he walked to his seat.
The MMO boys had to go all out to contort their bodies and faces to do their hearts.
Maroo kids did a finger frame thing that made them look like preschoolers. Park Jihoon with his freshly fluffy hair got a close up to highlight what a puppy he is.
Broduce maknae Lee Woojin was excited to see his hyungs and had a moment with Wink Guy Jihoon where they both scratched each others’ chins. Possibly already in the top five most adorable moments of this season.
I don’t know what exactly it was the RBW kids did, but it looked inappropriate. Butts were groped.
Tiptoe Oppa Park Sungwoo stayed true to the brand by tiptoeing.
Seo Sunghyuk, who we all root for in our hearts, did a full kneeling bow. Why is he so earnest, someone save him.
Starship kids did a bit where they went from Baekho level sang namja to bowing profusely.
Of course, because they have to apply some sweet numbing cream before ripping my heart out, Yoojung takes us from the set full of nervous trainees to some footage of when former IOI members, Fantagio girls Kim Doyeon and Choi Yoojung herself came to visit the trainees. It looks to be from the same day that they had gathered to pick a centre from the A level trainees, the theatre in the round set.
Unsurprisingly, the group of male trainees are kicked to see my pretty girls walk in with that godawful song Pick Me from the season before playing. They edit the girls some shabang shabang, but much like Yuehua Justin, they don’t need it. They’re here to create some filler footage pick a dancing king from among the trainees, with a random song dance battle.
Yoojung demonstrates as Bang, Bang plays, a song she must not be familiar to, I’m sure. The boys love it because she’s a cutie. Samuel spins in his interview chair, asking, ‘Is my face red? Is my face red?’ and Yoojung giggles at the edit as she watches from the panel.
The winner and his whole rank will get a prize. They all cheer. I bet they hope it’s an actual meal that they don’t have to fight over.
Instantly, it gets super competitive (they must be hungry).
youtube
MMO Daniel and Jeju boy Joo Haknyeon b-boy, Daniel’s obviously good but Haknyeon unexpectedly holds his own. Samuel is overtly strategic for a sixteen year old - I wonder if this is what being a trainee that long does. Fantagio Ong-ssi does his popping, and we learn Park Jihoon has a background in whacking.
Hong Eunki, however, is by far the most impressive. He does some pretty dirty body contortions, his butt and limbs move like they’re made of liquid. I have to avert my eyes because I really am not that type of noona. Then, out of nowhere, he does a contemporary freestyle to Skinny Love, with an interview voiceover that explains that his father didn’t like his dancing so he had to practice in secret. His lines are so gorgeous they bring tears to your eyes, it’s hard to be objective when Jung Jung joins in halfway.
They do a very pretty collaboration, showing off their training - I’d really recommend watching it. Everyone watching screams as they do a spontaneous collaboration, very emotive and skillful. One of the training likens the bit to a musical, watching a man leave another man. The editing loops one or two moves constantly for reasons beyond me.
Yoojung coerces Lai Guanlin out, and he does the dance moves Cube managed to teach him before throwing him into this mess to capitalise on his good looks. Ahn Hyunseob embarrasses himself in what I’m learning to accept as the norm, while Jang Moonbok hilariously dances to What Does The Fox Say? with Jung Jung. He gets really into it.
The boys then do a bit of Very Very Very, Lee Daehwi in particular kills it even as Park Jisung uses every inch of his meme face to dance. It takes Sohye worryingly wrong to recognise her own song but the girls all love it, pulling out all the reactions for Mnet.
Hong Eunki wins the D Level trainees spanking new product placement opportunities sneakers. Just give them some meat. Or maybe kimbap. They show them off at the practice hall another day, Eunki and new BFF Jung Jung doing some extra standing splits that Lee Daehwi and Ha Sungwoon try and fail to emulate.
Cut to an early morning at the dorms, all the boys sleeping in their tiny bunk beds. Cue a morning horn, and Nayana plays, muscle memory making them all sleepily dance along even as they struggle to open their eyes. They’re given ten minutes to get to the training ground, making all of them run out wildly without getting the chance to slap on some BB cream or run a brush through their hair. National Leader Angel Jonghyun runs to get there first, which he enjoys for half a second before realising he was now too tired to dance.
This takes me back to that annoying segment last season when they asked a bunch of mostly underage girls on a diet whether they want to lose weight. This season, they present trainer Kim Seunghyun (Maknae Lee Woojin compares him to a bear lol) to the group of skinny boys, most of whom, again, are younger than me. They’re not to lose weight, but look manlier, I guess? It’s still ridiculous, and I appreciate whatever weird double jointed trick Pledis Choi Minki pulls out to widen his shoulders as Kim Seunghyun says he’ll measure their shoulder width.
Jang Moonbok’s long mane of pin straight silkiness makes the trainer laugh as he presents his shoulders, and they slap some ~shalala~ over Kim Seunghyun shifting it over his shoulder. Moonbok’s shoulders measure 54 cm, btw. For comparison, Kim Woobin’s are 57 cm, but Jang Moonbok’s height is four stacked mini-marshmallows, so it’s not bad. Kang Daniel hits 60 cm, which Mnet thinks warrants a shot of Lee Woojin.
They do some planks. Lee Woojin struggles, Lee Daehwi and Choi Minki create some gifs for the fan vaults with their faces. It gets progressively harder, and Park Woodam almost bounces out the door at some point. They finally battle one on one, taking each other down as they continue a one armed plank.
Seo Sunghyuk has an unforeseen number of wins, until he has to take on Park Jihoon. His nervousness comes back and he needs to reassured about whether Wink Guy’s fans would destroy him but Jihoon fights back. Mnet is really making up for not giving him enough screen time earlier, that was a nice bit that shouldn’t cause any splash back on Sunghyuk when he wins.
Filler segments continue as the trainees split up into their group mission teams and have to arm wrestle. They’re encouraged to flash the camera and I once again have to avert my eyes as underage stomachs are exposed. Tiptoe Oppa’s got me with the age appropriate musculature though.
They have a staring contest before arm wrestling and it only embarrasses them. Justin launches a battalion of winks at Hunus Sanggyun, who giggles, having completely forgotten his earlier disdain about Justin’s cuteness. Shit talking commences.
Takada Kenta, to his opponent: Itadakimasu.
His opponent: >_>
Lee Woojin: WHOAAAAA. OH SNAP ITADAKIMASU...what does it mean?
Jung Sewoon: ....I’ll eat well/with thanks.
Lee Woojin: Oh! ^_^
Yoon Yongbin destroyed well known puppy Kim Taemin. Lee Seokyu tried to use his cracking high note for strength but C2K Kim Seongri in his precious few seconds of footage proved to be funnier than I’d thought, doing some weird kung-fu-esque yells before crushing him. Baekho came forward to humiliate all of Boy in Love team 1. Like I’d said in my quick recap, it was an embarrassingly quick defeat. Of course, Mnet played that law of the jungle background track over this.
Watch this track become Baekho’s calling card once he gets called to variety shows after escaping this mess.
In a move that’s really going to help him and indicates that he’s been on varieties before, Baekho goes up against Haknyeon for teasing Lai Guanlin before defeating him earlier. They play it up appropriately, Guanlin loves having his hyung avenge him. This bit gets some nice screen time for all of them, and a new and unexpected broship sails.
Knowing how to behave in segments like this really shows you whether trainees have a natural ability to entertain, so usually I enjoy them despite how very predictable they are. Of course, because this is an Mnet reality show and features heavy editing and scripting, I’m left uncertain of who really has those variety skills. Like they’d intended, however, you are left feeling mildly fond of the kids as we go back to stark reality from filler footage.
Back to the set with the chairs of doom for the rankings, and the looming eliminations.

[SPOILERS] my thoughts on pd101 + jelpi’s yoon heeseok
aight here’s a lil rant.
i’ll start right off the bat that this is just a personal opinion and one not based off much at the moment. this is just my commentary and criticism of yoon heeseok, jellyfish’s trainee for broduce 101, and an overall opinion of pd101 in general.
long post in lapslock ahead.
i have watched the season 2 ver of pick me, their cute attempt of season 1′s pick me, the raw of episode one, a few of those special clips released before ep1 (all of heeseok’s and a few of samuel’s and daehwi’s) and a few performance evaluations (heeseok’s, samuel’s, fnc’s (sorry), and i think bnm’s) i’m stating this, because i have not watched everything-- this opinion is based on what i have seen, what i speculate may happen, and comparing it to semina.
OKAY SO TO START THINGS OFF i’m a lil disappointed. i don’t think sending heeseok on his own was a smart move on jelpi, but i think its a) they don’t have enough male trainees, as seen with the recent call for male auditions and b) they’re not here to win it like in season 1
i’ll explain b) a lil more-- when jelpi debuted gugudan, they got a bunch of backlash because “””apparently””” sejeong, mina and even nayoung deserved “”””better”””” more specifically sejeong because her akgae fans are ridiculous. the group is really talented, but judging by the production quality (not the song, because i liked it) of wonderland’s mv, it was super rushed. they could have rode the hype train along with pristin and possibly fantagio girls but they chose to debut in 2016 and jelpi... it wasn’t a smart move. jelpi is probably aware that the backlash is a result of their immense popularity (again, more so sejeong). the best line to tread would be sending a trainee who may not grab everyone’s attention, but company power will allow them to sit comfortably (evident by heeseok’s position of 26th despite barely aNY SCREEN TIME) and allow them to gain exposure and a steady fanbase-- but not to the extent of god sejeong.
there’s also rumours that mnet is forcing companies to join else they would be blocked, so perhaps they sent heeseok for the heck of it. don’t get me wrong, i love heeseok from what i’ve seen in those special clips-- he’s got a beautiful ballad voice, quirky, determined in small things (like makin meringues), a lil sneaky (where in that guess the item game, heeseok grabbed the bottle of soju to his side so his competitor couldn’t touch it) and a lil awkward like hakyeon-- they even look alike. he’s got the visuals and height too. heeseok is the kind of guy who would do well in a group or would compliment another person well in a duo. i just don’t think that sending him on his own was a good idea, even if it was for the reason b. he reminds me a little like kim nayoung-- the full package but just isn’t sure of themselves.
... which is why i still think he’d be a good addition to bro-ioi ahaha.
i’ve seen some people compare him to SeMiNa but you just can’t? all the girls had approximately a year experience, with nayoung at starship (edit: sorry i meant star empire) for more i believe. they absolutely slayed nikki yanofsky’s something new (proud canadian, proud jelpi stan). they even arranged the phrases differently so it would flow better, allowed nayoung’s rasp to come through, mina’s solo dance, and the MICROPHONE PASSING I MEAN fam. indeed, they were most definitely something new. they were on top of their shit. heeseok, however, has 6 months of trainee experience. 6 months, 1 year, it all looks potato potato no? but those 6 months really do make a difference and heeseok choosing chained up as his audition song is endearing but absolutely generic. how many times have you seen people sing their company sunbae’s songs? doesn’t it get boring? moreover, while vixx doesn’t have your typical “hype” choreo like bts and exo, it’s sharp and precise and moves in motion with the song-- and most definitely awkward without a group.
[big spoiler] and thus, baby fish was put into f group. dun dun dunnn.
[another big spoiler] people were disappointed-- i know i was. i was expecting a lot from heeseok, not just as a follow up of SeMiNa, but jellyfish in general is a talented company. not to worry (?) though-- i’ve been looking through the wikipedia page and apparently [here comes dat spoi] heeseok jumped to b group, which is the second or third highest jump in group for season 2? (with vibe’s taedong jumping from f to a and yuehua’s hyeonseop jumping from d to a)
so this just further’s my previous comment about heeseok being hard-working-- it shows here. albeit, i haven’t watched the re-evaluations episode (if it’s even out) and this could be completely wrong, but if its true then this is very... spotlight worthy.
...
how much do you wanna bet that mnet’s barely going to show shit
here comes my rant on how a) how i see things panning out and b) why mnet is the biggest gentleman’s pickle. i can already tell heeseok isn’t going to make it to the final line-up. if we’re lucky, he might survive until the 35 boys 5 concepts episode (though who knows if they might change it to 30, or 25 even) and he gets enough exposure like the s1 cube trainees before being outed. but look: he’s barely got screentime. jellyfish’s intro was short, they didn’t show his whole performance (and somehow is pitting him as a comparison to fnc), i don’t think got a SINGLE solo shot in either pick me version (i saw him once in the s1 retake behind someone else).
mnet is picking favourites but what else is new.
they’re hyping up the fact nu’est is joining but gave like... one nod to the fact hotshot, topp dogg, and jjcc members are joining, samuel is being touted as the new somi, daehwi as the new yoojung, mnet is using the same ol tropes to rope people in. don’t get me wrong, i’ve been rooting for samuel and nu’est before it starting airing, but this blatant show of favouritism pretty much decides who’s going to be a part of the final line-up.
update: just watched heeseok’s re-evaulation video and yes, [spoiler] he has been bumped to b. was i right about him barely getting any recognition? yeah, kind of.
overall, i just wanted to voice my frustration at jellyfish’s choice in not sending more trainees (though there might be none who wanted to join/in the company atm), why you shouldn’t compare heeseok to SeMiNa and why, despite being a good choice to add to the bro-ioi line up, he’s probably not going to get in.
this is a mess
#jellyfish entertainment#yoon heeseok#jelpi#produce 101#broduce 101#pd101 season 2#kashi shut up#don't take this too seriously i just wanted to make a point#and rant
