She shared it with me and another friend first, and because she hasn’t been active on Tumblr in a long time, I didn’t think she would post it here. Ever. HAPPY 7th ANNIVERSARY, RESTRAINT!

This first chapter of this novel-length J2 AU fic was posted on Valentine’s Day, 2010. I personally never even thought of reading it until the erudite and scholarly electricmonk333 kinda/sorta made me promise to give it a try.

I had to discuss it with Sim every day while I was immersed in that world. This author, the amazing DarkEmeralds, writes this universe, these characters, and this language as if she had personally lived through it. Since it’s Regency England, that’s impossible, unless she’s a witch, but that WOULD explain why this is just so, so good.

Forty-three chapters (!!!) later, I finished it. After sobbing for roughly ten minutes, I thanked Sim for *ahem* encouraging me to read it, then immediately turned around and recommended it to my fic girl, samndeansandwich, who is now texting me with her feels on the regular. 

Restraint has its own page on the Fanlore wiki. My valentine to all my followers is this link, which will tell you the history of the fic, give a synopsis and some details (but not too many), and place it in context with all the other J2 AU fics out there.
