His 1970 debut solo album included the hit “Move On Up.” He created and produced so many classic soul-funk-RnB soundtracks for 1970s Black films including “Super Fly,” "Claudine" (Gladys Knight and the Pips), "Sparkle" (Aretha Franklin), “Let’s Do It Again” (Staple Singers), and “A Piece of the Action” (Mavis Staples).

Monday's Dusty Grooves | Curtis Mayfield's Back to the World Coming hot on the heels of Curtis Mayfield’s powerhouse “Superfly” album was his 1973 release of the wonderful Back To The World album. Mayfield's music always had a socially-conscious and political bent to it, but the tracks on Back To The World cranked this conceit up to an even higher degree, largely inspired the increasingly industrial world around him, and the social and environmental concerns that followed it. Since it’s Memorial Day, it would only be right to start my morning ride in my ‘64 Dodge with the titled track “Back to the World”. “Back to the World” has powerful and timely lyrical content mainly dealing with life in the U.S. after the vietnam war which had just ended as the last troops were finally on their way back home. The title track and 1st song on the album is told from the viewpoint of a soldier whose made it back home only to be told that A) The war had not been won and B) Nothing really had changed for the better since he’d left and in many ways was now worse. It’s a very descriptive and chilling realization that now the soldier was in the midst of a another war for freedom of thought and expression “Back In The World”. Idris Muhammad was an American #jazz drummer who recorded with @ahmad.jamal.official, #loudonaldson, @pharoahsandersofficial, and @tetemontoliu. Born Leo Morris in New Orleans, he grew up in the city's 13th Ward in a home next door to a dry cleaner’s shop. Muhammad claimed the sound of the shop’s steam presser influenced his hi-hat technique. He showed early talent as a percussionist, playing in a #MardiGras parade at age 9, and began his professional career while still a teenager, playing on @fatsdominoofficials' #BlueberryHill" He toured with @officialsamcooke, and later worked with #JerryButler and @curtislmayfield, mostly working in #rnb until the mid-1960s. #wikipedia One of my favorite things when discovering music is when I accidentally find the original sample used in a more or less newer tune.
