Seeing the look on the other's face, brought her joy. She was so happy to be able to make something for him, especially after he'd given her such an amazing treat for her birthday.

Orihime held the bamboo soup contained in her hands softly, wrapped in a cute cloth that was something a bit more traditional. The cloth was a various patchwork of blue hues that reminded her of Ishida-kun, a deep blue that was almost the color of his hair with a lighter blue work. It had the Asanocha Sashiko flower, the design of the whole thing reminded her of him. So it was only appropriate that she use it to wrap the container with his food.

"Of course! It's your birthday, you deserve a dish."

His hand came out as he invited her to come eat with him, her cheeks a soft blush. Not that she didn't expect them to share a meal, so why were her cheeks feeling warm?

"I-I hope it's yummy." She placed the warm container in his hold. "I had to search around a bit until I found a recipe that sounded right."

Orihime wouldn't mention the use of her allowance for it, that wasn't what a gift was about. "If you want to share it, I am happy to. I think I made enough for there to be plenty of extra for you."

"Happiest of Birthdays, Ishida-kun! I brought you this!" Just as he had for her birthday, Orihime made him a treat. But unlike a cake or the traditional sweet, the girl had worked hard to make him his favorite meal. "I hope you like it!"

This year, his birthday was on a Wednesday, in the middle of the school week. Everyone was busy, including himself as the class president, president of their year as well. It felt like a normal day, nothing special to celebrate.

They were walking past Orihime's house after school when she brought something out, a container of stew, that he soon recognised the smell of the flavours.

"Wait, is this?"

He mentioned he especially liked mackerel miso stew, as his mother made it for him when he was younger, it was something he mentioned in passing while they were talking about food in the past.

"Thanks, Inoue-san," Uryu replied with a smile. He was grateful, honestly it was even more thoughtful than the cake he made for her on her birthday.

"If you wouldn't mind coming with me to my place, we can try some together too," he offered, hands reaching out to hold the container for her.

"Let me carry it at least, you must have worked hard on it."

She'd never expected anyone to remember her birthday this year. Hell she even almost forgot it herself. It wasn't her fault that she was always so busy. Nanao was usually the one to keep things running on time and was rather strict about getting documents filed away correctly. When she heard the Captain's voice, she knew she was in good company. Captain Hitsugaya was someone she admired. She turned and accepted the gift and adjusted her glasses. "Thank you, Captain Hitsugaya. Sometimes it's hard to file all of this, I never had this much responsibility in the 8th."

Ishida-kun was holding it up to her, telling her happy birthday. Orihime came down to the level of it to take a closer look, hands together in fists as they rested at her chin.

"Ishida-kun, this is the cutest cake I have ever seen!!"

Soft earth-toned eyes looked up at him now, still in the adorable position. "All white with the cutest of designs, and the hearts! Did you really make this for me?" Oblivious that it even looked like a wedding cake.

~*~ Trust didn’t come easy to the young soul. She didn’t let most people get close enough to touch her or even break down her walls that guarded her heart. Kaisa struggled a lot to allow herself enough trust to feel safe enough around someone to sleep, let alone sleeping on them. She’d ended up overworking herself to the point of exhaustion and he was the closest person around that she was comfortable with.

The younger soul was trying to stay up, but her eyelids were heavy and she couldn’t even keep her head from lolling to the side. Every few moments she’d jolted a little, just barely coming back before her eyes would close again. Without really thinking Kaisa scooted closer to her Lieutenant and put her head against his arm and sighed softly.

“You tell anyone I will hurt you…” she murmured in almost a whisper.

Within moments of leaning her head against him she was lightly snoring, asleep for the first time in at least 72 hours.

Renji paled seeing the overly cheerful man approach him. Nothing good ever came out of interacting with this shady shopkeeper. Always getting tricked into doing stupid things, just because of this one man. He wanted to cry.

BUT! He would not be so foolish as to allow it to happen every time. It might have taken a thousand times, but Renji definitely had learned his lesson.

"Thanks fer the offer, but I'm gonna have t' politely decline," he held up a hand. He didn't voice it out loud, but this 'errand' of Urahara's was probably not going to end well.

Although... the offer was super tempting... no no no, he mustn't give into the temptation!

She didn't have to argue much with Ishida-kun for him, a smile laid on her face still as he agreed with her. "Excellent." Orihime's voice chirped. When she tried to think of where they could go to get what they needed, Ishida-kun told her not to worry. He seemed to pull everything they needed out of nowhere, finding everything like magic. Orihime was impressed. He set them up so she could easily cut the cake and eat. "You are so amazing, Ishida-kun! A whole Swiss Army knife." Or so, it seemed to her.

She had led them to somewhere they could sit down, wanting to ensure enough space to comfortably do so. She'd found a bench, both sitting and placing the tray on her legs. The other told her to cut the cake and take the first taste, it was tradition. Her eyes were bright, and the excitement of eating something made specifically for her was definitely seen and felt Her attention turned to the knife, starting to cut the cake. She didn't just cut one piece, she made sure to cut them both, setting one on the small plates and handing him his piece. "Here you go, I am so happy I get to share this treat with you." Once he grabbed the plate, she would place hers on the tray and then bring her hands up in a prayer form, giving a soft grace with a small bow to her head and then up. Picking up the plate and grabbing her fork, she nabbed a small piece of the treat and looked at the one beside her. "Bone Apple teeth!"

Once the cake made it to her tongue, her eyes watered. The look of pure joy was on her face as she chewed just the ever-slowest. "This is the best cake I have ever eaten." It was a little taste of heaven in her mouth.

Orihime was probably the most popular girl in their year, while Uryu was the most popular guy, though he was generally cold and distant to everyone compared to her. He had a soft spot for Orihime, as he knew how hard she worked, why he put his full effort into the cake he made for her birthday, she at least deserved that much.

“Wait, eat it together?” Uryu repeated with a blink, since his logic dictated that only she should be allowed to eat her own birthday cake. But at the same time, he could see why it may be awkward having him just watch her eat her own cake without joining in.

“Alright.” He smiled at her gently, her personality was radiating as always. He was glad she was happy with his present as she took it from him, well Uryu supposed he did deserve to eat some of his own made cake too.

“Don’t worry, I’ve come prepared,” he reassured her as he let Orhime lead on where they should sit. He then went over to grab a tray, big enough to put the cake on with utensils on the side, which included a knife. He promptly handed it to her, so she could do the honours.

“Here, it’s tradition for you to cut and taste the cake first, right?”

She dug her face into his back, fists covering her eyes. Pe was still shaking.

“Thank you. I… shouldn’t have wandered off. I just don’t understand why I should be hunted because of what I am. It’s not like I chose to be this.”

Quincy or not, she hoped Uryu could understand.

Uryu rushed to the Arrancar's side, surrounded by hollows from the hollow bait he gave her to snack on. With a flurry of arrows, he cleared the way for her safety. He should have been more attentive and noticed she had wandered off sooner.

"Please do not leave my side, it is for your protection as well as mine, Mode," Uryu told her, letting Pe rest against his back as they walked back home. "Life can be unfair that way, as the natural order of things."

Uryu had rescued Mode in passing as he was heading back to Karukara town from Hueco Mundo, hoping he and his friends could make it back in time to back up Ichigo who had left first. He didn't notice that he had an Arrancar following him until they got there, which soon resulted in her living with him and his father.

"Also, don't tell my father about this, I would not hear the end of it," Uryu added. Hollows were the natural enemies of the Quincy, Arrancar included. It was a miracle to use some logic to keep Mode around, then again, she did resemble his mother to an extent.

"Stupid! How am I supposed to hold still if you are tickling me?" Rukia muttered, hissing slightly in pain as she felt Renji's fingers over her injury. It was careless of her, an oversight that she didn't see the second hollow sneak up in her blind spot. Stupid and careless of me!

She continued to sulk, replaying the scene in her head and thinking of all the possibilities she could have done had she been more aware. Rukia would make note of what adjustments to make for future battles. Of course, Renji had seen the blood and insisted on returning to the Kurosaki house for treatment before continuing on patrol.

"Insufferable busy body!" Rukia huffed, crossing her arms and wincing at the inadvertent pain the movement cost her. "I'd feel better if we had finished that patrol! It was just a scratch, you know. I wasn't in danger of dying."

"Well maybe if you held still, I wouldn't be tickin' ya!" Renji responded, trying to stop Rukia from squirming. Rukia got injured from their patrol together, while it wasn't major, it required some patch work after so it didn't escalate.

Renji took it upon himself to bandage Rukia's waist, trying to prove a point to her that he could take care of her while on the field. Still, they ended up in Ichigo's room anyway, since it became one of their main bases of operations besides the Urahara Shop.

"Feeling better?" Renji asked her after, though somehow it looked like they had a fight on Ichigo's bed.
