GUYS I DID IT!
youtube
This video saved my life. Thank you blackpenredpen!
Image ID: two pictures of an iPad open to the notes feature. The first picture shows a Desmos graph of two polar curves overlapping and below it are the words “area of region inside curve 1 and outside curve 2” and two hand drawn graphs separating out their respective components and the beginning of an equation for the area. The second picture contains the scratch work done in purple for simplifying the integral and evaluating it, eventually resulting in a circled answer: pi over four. End ID]
First day back from break and calculus is already trying to kill me. This is going to be a long three weeks.
Please send any help you can offer on polar equations.

How to find the principal square root of a complex number

Your blog is super cool! I am not very familiar with most of the higher concepts on here but a lot of what you post rings a vague bell in my head of what I learned in school, and it is just super fun to read about anyway! Do you have any favorite math YouTubers? I like to watch math videos sometimes
Ooh yes omg
Vihart doesnt post too often, but theyre the one who got me into math :) the videos work pretty well for high schoolers, but if you have a deeper understanding of math you can find a lot of easter eggs, references and smart jokes in there
I'll always have a sweet spot in my heart for Numberphile - they don't go in too much depth but they do show a wide range of subjects and interesting concepts
If you like calculus, two fun youtubers are BlackPenRedPen and Flammable Maths. Both of them are based around solving complicated equations and integrals. BPRP is a bit dryer and easier to follow, and FM is a bit of a silly reddit-esque chronically online addicted to memes vibe (which can be pretty funny from time to time)

Suggest some websites for uni mathematics that you use or came across? Or any other resources?
most of the time my maths questions are quite specific and after some googling, i’m usually able to come across pdf’s that help me with whatever i’m struggling with.
nonetheless, having resources to come back to is extremely useful, especially if you just don’t know wtf is going on in lectures. so here’s some stuff i find very helpful:
Mathematical Methods in the Physical Sciences by Mary L. Boas — i swear the whole physics department simps over this book. it gets mentioned in literally every office hour/drop in session. we all just love Boas
Mathematical Methods for Physics and Engineering by Riley, Hobson and Bence — just ordered a physical copy because this is THE MATHS BOOK for physics students. it contains everything you’ll ever need and more (PhD students still use it!) and i literally use it every day. it’s less rigorous than Boas and you can definitely tell it was written by physicists, but that’s what makes it so useful for me because they knew EXACTLY what I need
Dr. Trefor Bazett on YouTube — idk why, but his explanations just. make. sense. and he’s even put full courses on his channel! what a legend
blackpenredpen on YouTube — personally, i haven’t really watched a lot of their stuff, but my housemates absolutely swear by it
this is definitely only a fraction of all of the resources out there and there is definitely a strong bias towards physics, so please feel free to add more!
