Actually I’m curious to know more about your modern monster hunter setting in general! What’s it like? What kind of adaptations have people made to coexist alongside the monsters while technology has improved? What does hunting look like now? :0

it's not really a monster hunter setting, as in it's not focused on hunting monsters down (although there's certainly people that do). the quick explanation is that this universe is like our modern world but monsters exist, both as animals (Lee) and sentient creatures (Raz, Donovan). so you got vampires, werewolves, unicorns, ghosts, dragons and a very long etcetera of creatures attempting to coexist with humankind. depends on where you ask you'll get different responses about monsters: some think they're a plague, some think they're deserving of respect just as any other human is, some think they're just doing their thing and don't care about them. and of course, each country has its own legislation regarding monsters. regardless, sentient monsters prefer to keep their identities to themselves, just in case. think of mutants in the X-Men universe, that's the kind of vibe i wanna go for with this setting

there's always been some kind of "way" of knowing if someone was a monster or not, usually through some kind of superstitious ritual of sorts. wether they actually worked or not is another whole story. once human society reached its technological boom, the supernatural was approached with the scientific method and monsters started getting properly researched. look no further than Raz, who was approached by a government funded research facility to help humankind learn more about monsters and help them integrate into their society. this has... controversial results. i've yet to decide on any canon events for this universe bc as of now it only exists as a static setting, and i'd like to explore more of the societal aspects of a world with monsters! the task seems titanic and very intimidating to me but i'll get to it one day, i promise

on the more mundane side of worldbuilding, ghostbusters are a real service you can call if your house gets haunted. there's also fauna control but to keep animonsters (came up with that on the spot, does it work?) away from human settlements. think of it like wild animal culling, or invasive species control. things like that exist and have existed in this world for a very long time just like any other jobs. of course, technology has aided both people who want to preserve animonsters as part of the ecosystem and people who want to exhibit their pelts and bones in their living rooms. regular guns have a variable rate of success against monsters overall, but there are certain research centers that are pioneering substances that are specially noxious to them. very little knowledge on this field is public, though

What color is yours? Might is pink, and I decorated the back with a bunch of small stickers that went with the color 💞 and you're right, I'm definitely going to have to look for sdv when they have the black friday sales (as long as they're actually good- the sales have sucked the past few years here in the us)

Sometimes I'll eat just plain crackers haha, we have so many different brands and flavors of crackers over here it's not even funny. Gas stations alone have walls upon walls of different kind of chips (or crisps, because I know over there chips to you is what you call your version of french fries) I know you don't have sweet tea because I already mentioned that but do you have milkshakes? Because from what I've heard the us is pretty much one of the only places where you can get a real, authentic milkshake that isn't super liquidy (of course I've never been out of the states so I wouldn't know for sure)

After many moons spent under the dsmp, seeing discourse and analysis alike, i have come to the conclusion i simply do not have the energy to care about any lore outside of c!tubbo and c!tommy's and will only defend them. the problems come up when you attack other people for their perspectives on the medium or spread misinformation about different characters based on only watching the perspective you like, but you know - if you’re not doing analysis, you really don’t need to look that deep into it.

i mean... we're not trying to - being against punitive justice is about the fact punishment is wrong, not just certain types of it. asking me what a "fitting punishment" would be is sort of very not getting the point.

hurting people further is not going to teach them anything and it’s not going to help anyone, why is it necessary?

so the answer is: none. he shouldn’t be punished, actually! he should learn on his own that what he did wasn’t right, and that’s about it. that’s the thing about transformative justice. him becoming a better person who Wouldn’t Do That again because it goes against who he is.

however, there’s also restorative justice, which is working to “make it up” to the victims. to which i propose; dream has the revival book and could literally bring him back once he is out of the prison. give him some powder maybe. md would probably be chill w/ that.

no i’m - i’m pretty sure that’s just how it works. dream still owns the smp, but he himself has said wayy back at the beginning “everyone can build and go wherever they want” and that was that. it was one of his rules on the smp, it was his main problem with l’manberg. being able to build anywhere were the rules that he “had the right” to enforce. and he did, not because he was a god, but because it was his smp, his home that he claimed for his friends. wouldn’t call it a big debate, it’s really that simple.

I immediately thought of this blog when I read this. 

Not saying you’re misogynist, of course. This blog is just so fascinating, and for someone to dismiss it all like that is frustrating. 

I mean, of course they weren’t referring to you directly, but still. 

For someone to brush off people’s interesting, thought-provoking theories as nothing but misogyny is kind of close-minded, in my opinion. 

But this makes me curious. Do you think you’d still feel the same way about Bill if he was more feminine-coded? Would it matter?

And what do you think about that statement? Are you as annoyed by it as I am?

It’s always alright to get my thoughts on certain subjects, Anon! And lucky for you, I have lots of thoughts on this.

First of all, thank you for liking my blog! I put a lot of work into it, and I still look back on everything I’ve done here fondly. This blog is my only fandom-specific blog that’s still semi-active even after I’ve left the fandom. 

And, about what you said about misogyny... I don’t actually think that’s what the article is talking about. It’s not misogyny for someone to pick apart Bill Cipher, but it’s misogyny if someone offers that level of potential depth to a male character while instantly condemning a female character. 

But... honestly, from my experience? These two groups of people are different groups. 

I used to run in those “anti” circles, back in 2015? 2016? Before the whole “SU criti/cal” thing started to become popular. But I could still kinda see hints of it? It was back when SU was hailed as THE perfect show, before people knocked it off the pedestal they put it on. 

Anyway. These people hated redemption arcs. They saw Bill as this irredeemable monolith of a character, and any alternate interpretations were met with outright malice. I got called out once for, and I am not joking, headcanoning Bill as an abuse victim. They claimed I was “excusing his actions,” but when I asked to please show a screenshot of where I said that this excused him, they couldn’t. Because I never said that. 

(I ended up publishing the whole headcanon on my main blog, and people loved it. That reception is what pushed me to create this blog.)

I don’t doubt at least some of those people became the type to nitpick SU. So I feel that the same people that nitpick male characters are also the type to nitpick female ones. They’re just nitpickers with a black-and-white sense of morality.

But there are always exceptions to the rule- people who love morally gray male characters but hate morally grey female characters. Yes, some of these motivations may be spurred on by misogyny. But what frustrates me is the initial assumption of malice. I’m not saying the article itself is guilty of this, as it seems to be speaking to a general problem, but more those tumblr posts or tweets trying to “call people out” if they gravitate towards more morally gray male characters than female ones.

Which brings me to my answer to your question: No, I don’t think I would like Bill as much, had he been a woman.

But please let me explain first. 

First, you need to know some facts about me:

I am transmasculine. (Not a trans man- I’m nonbinary.)

I have a personality disorder. I’m not comfortable disclosing which one, but it’s one of the cluster B ones.

I was abused, and my reaction to the abuse was extreme anger and irritability. (Hence the PD.)

Another important fact is that my abuser was a woman. She’s my mother. I had to live with constant emotional abuse, gaslighting, neglect and other forms of malice for my whole life. I’m still not free yet, and I’m turning 20 in a month. (No, literally, exactly one month to the day.)

I was abused my whole life by a vindictive, manipulative shit of a woman, and it made me into a vindictive, manipulative shit of a person. The key difference is that I am actively trying not to be a vindictive, manipulative shit.

When I pick apart asshole male characters, I see myself in them. I do a deep dive into the whys, the hows the whos of why they ended up the way that they did, because it makes me feel liberated. It’s personally liberating to see someone like me, whom everyone sees as a monster, have a backstory that shows that monsters aren’t born, they’re made. It’s liberating to see them try and change, it’s liberating to give them someone to help them change no matter what, it’s liberating to look harder. Because that’s what I wanted. I wanted someone to look at me and see past the violent, angry 15 year old that I was, and actually help me. I wanted someone to see I was a victim, that I didn’t like being the way that I was. I wanted someone to help me and be there for me, even though I was messed up and awful.

(But don’t feel too bad for me- A few years ago I met someone wonderful through this very fandom who was exactly the kind of person I needed. And last November I proposed to him and he said yes!)

When I see a morally grey female character... all I can see is my abuser. I see in them the person that hurt me. I don’t want to look deeper, just as I don’t care about my mother’s long rambles about how shitty her childhood was. Was she also abused? Yes. Do I care? Nope! I don’t feel that same drive to pick apart female characters that act like the male ones I like, because of my trauma.

 And honestly? Just because I gravitate towards male characters more doesn’t make me a misogynist. How I treat actual real life women does. I do examine my behavior to make sure I’m not being misogynistic- in fact, it was worry that I was being misogynistic in my dislike of these characters that made me think hard enough to have such a long answer to your question. 

Maybe someone liking only male characters is an indicator of misogyny. Maybe it isn’t. I’m not shy about talking about what happened to me but people should not have to disclose their traumas in order to be “allowed” to consume fiction in a way some stranger doesn’t like. 

And there actually is a specific subset of morally grey female characters I like: my own OCs. 

I guess it’s the fact that I created them and thus can control how they act? They’re all assholes and I love them so much, but I don’t feel that same aversion as I do with characters that aren’t mine. Because the lack of control I had over my own abusive situation is what fucked me up so hard, but now I do have the control. If I watch a TV show, I don’t have any control over what the characters do, they’re not mine. But I do have control over my OCs.

(Psst- if you wanna see those OCs, I’ve since moved to the Invader Zim fandom, and am working on a HUGE fic series for it. (It’s not published yet- I’m working on it behind the scenes.) Those OCs I’m talking about star heavily. Here’s my blog, if you’re interested. I kinda wanna do some metaposting for that fandom, too, but I’ve no idea where to start. I love the Irkens, though, haha. Anyway if any of you happen to like IZ and have a meta-question for me... the askbox IS open!)

Anyway. This got really long. But misogyny in fandom is a thing, and the article does call it out well. I just get frustrated that people immediately assume malice. It really is such and adorable little question, and it makes me flattered and overjoyed to know that you are interested in a Modern AU revolving around Korbin and are curious about what he would be doing in such a scenario!

That really means a lot, and you are, as always, very cherished and highly appreciated! Now, to answer your question, I believe it would be easiest if I answered it in two ways~

Firstly, if Korbin existed and lived in our current timeline, I believe he would enjoy the comforts of animation. Considering the fact that he tends to be very childish in nature, and tends to have that kind of mindset in general, I can easily see him enjoying a combination of both Western Animation, as well as Japanese Animation from time to time.

Would he be the type to get overly excited whenever a new animated Disney film comes out? Absolutely! Would he end up dragging both of his siblings to the premiere and make certain they not only gets the special tub of popcorn, but also the free posters and other little childish trinkets? You know it!

Would he stay up late watching reruns of old school cartoons such as Scooby Doo, Loony Tunes, and Tom & Jerry, but also enjoy the occasional nineties classics such as Batman, Gargoyles, X-Men and even lighter ones like Dexter’s Laboratory, Johnny Bravo, or Animaniacs? Without a doubt!

Korbin would also unironically quote early season Spongebob Squarepants related memes, much to his brother’s chagrin, and would regret absolutely nothing. He would also enjoy indulging in certain Anime series now and again whenever the curious urge arises. His favorite series being, unsurprisingly to anyone who knows him well, Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood.

Now, as for whether or not Korbin would use the internet to spread his meme related madness to the unsuspecting… he absolutely does, and quite repeatedly within the events of my Sims 4 related adventures with The Knight, The Emperor, and The Assassin!

Most of the time, you can very easily catch him stealing away Martin’s computer and trolling the forums, or causing drama, or just attacking those with out of date memes that he still finds hilarious.

…Even when said brother is meant to be sleeping in preparation for work the next morning. Whoops. But you know what they say! High quality memes wait for no man, and as you can see from the above, there are even times when he is feeling particularly devious, and brings Lachance into the fold to help create a stir, and then share a laugh at the expense of those fools who are too easily bothered by the smallest possible thing.

So yes, my dear sweet TKTEATA!Anon! Korbin most certainly is a creator and user of various memes, and oftentimes logs onto certain social media, or internet forums to torment unsuspecting souls with the very best he has to offer!
