I mean, we kind of gathered that from the trailer but it’s even better in context of the actual scene with everyone arguing - Actually, no, you know what? let’s give all of them credit here. They all voiced conflicting opinions and were also communicating honestly with one another, listening to each other, remaining self aware, supporting each other and agreeing to compromise even if they didn’t entirely agree with each other, and that’s quite frankly amazing considering how stressed and exhausted all of them are right now. The theme of the volume might be distrust, but the kids are doing alright all things considered - “But that’s how Salem got this far, by dividing us! We have to stick together.” Ruby’s sounding an awful lot like Jaune in vol4 about splitting up the group. Gee it’s almost as if someone recently reopened old wounds of a tragic loss in her life that affected her deeply and never properly healed, and that’s made her fear of losing others close to her all the more heightened or something - “ What about Mantle?” “Oh I’m saving Mantle. Because I actually believe we can do this” Nora I LOVE YOU - “I can get Pietro up to Amity to repair, but that doesn’t answer how we’re getting all of you up to Atlas” “I might actually have an idea for that” !!!!! *me opening a door* Oh? Willow Whitley time? Willow Whitley help with plot time??? I don’t actually know what they’d do and she might be referring to Klein or someone or something else entirely but I don’t care I just need to SEE THEM - Ironwood’s whole scene was bone chillingly brilliant and such a good condensation of his character. - Winter has a ponytail. That’s it that’s all that matters everyone go home. - Also yup, I knew it, with Ironwood spiralling off the deep end means Winter’s slowly realising that she traded one controlling authoritarian parental figure for another, but because of being so heavily conditioned by him and never forming a proper support network outside of the military means she’s going to have a very hard time breaking away. - I’m not like... sure what Winter is going to do this volume. It takes place over 48 hours and it still seems like she’s recovering in hospital. Most likely laying the groundwork for the conflict between her and Weiss judging from the OP, which we might get into if it’s her Weiss was thinking of going to for help. Still not sure though. I’d like it if Winter got to have a nap though, someone needs to get a good rest around here. Please Winter, get some godamn sleep, for your sister’s sake if not your own - Man I’m really getting some major Daisy/Basira vibes from Harriet rn and it’s actually making me more invested in her character than I was previously (props to anyone who gets who I’m referencing) - The new opening is um. A LOT. Like I can’t summarise everything and I’m sure plenty of people have already done an analysis of the opening already but there’s just. A lot of shit going on. Mostly my brain is just going “brrrrrr head empty only Schnees” when thinking about it, again the growing suspense and conflict between Weiss and Winter as they continue down their respective paths that are going to collide at some point, (also hot damn I love Winter’s new outfit, it feels less stiff and proper, with the red worn more prominently on the outside) Whitley seeming confused, confirming my hopes of him coming to a crossroads and rethinking his relationships with his family. Comparing that shot with him and Willow in the v8 OP and the shot of him and Jaques in the v7 OP feels to me like it’s showing his feelings and relationships with his parents. With Jaques he’s pushed to the background, indifferent, passive, resigned. With Willow he’s closer, but he looks more confused and worried, like he’s not sure how he feels about her. Which fits, since before he likely ignored her and now he’s alone with her he’s forced to think about how he feels about Willow. RWBY V8 CH1 Thoughts3

- Props to Jaune for pulling everyone together before they all pulled apart. I mean, we kind of gathered that from the trailer but it’s even better in context of the actual scene with everyone arguing
