So, a changeling is sort of like a p-zombie?

(For the unaware, “p-zombie” stands for “philosophical zombie”. It’s a thought experiment in philosophy that describes a being that’s outwardly identical to a human, but does not have a consciousness; that is, a p-zombie does not think whatsoever, although it looks like it thinks to an outsider observer. There’s a whole wikipedia article on it that explains the concept better than I can!)

They don't exactly think, as in "I dont want this" "I like that". But, Changelings do have a form of "Consciousness". It's just that their consciousness is more like a series of commands or tasks than actual formulated thoughts.

Timmy's Changeling has a very advanced "consciousness". It can predict future actions and reroute its tasks to pick only the best options for its situation.

We fill their heads with static to ensure that the Changeling does not form thoughts about anything. Thoughts leads to opinions, and opinions leads to incorrect actions. A proper Changeling should have more static in their mind than a TV screen on a defunct channel!

Wooooooooo here's the design for Zuko in his villain era in S1 in my Last Air Keyholder AU - big sci-fi story in a megapolis where gangs of firebenders race using bending to boost speed. Zuko is one of the best ones in the world (mostly because he wastes time and energy practicing as he has nothing better to do, seeing how his father tasked him with finding the lost Avatar). Aang gets woken up by Katara and Sokka from a cryo pod deep underneath the city, 1000 years after the last airbender was seen.

The biggest difference in design is that unlike how he was forced into this hairstyle in canon series, here Zuko chooses to wear it this way. I think that would be an interesting situation. Each bending style has a key holder and a symbol, the firebending one looks like a dragon spitting lightning if you squint! Based on what I researched, looks like Zuko defaults to using Hi-Low unrockered design for aggressive inline skating. He used to suck at this too and would often fall backwards. He wears a special overcoat and jacket with a sewn-in assistive technology that lets him fire lightning without damaging his own body. Iroh finances all repairs for Zuko's equipment. His uncle may not be the owner and head of the strongest enterprise in the world like his father, but Iroh still owns an entire skyscraper at the outskirts of the city.

But when the Avatar actually appears, they engage in chases across the megacity at breakneck speeds. Aang, however, doesn't use any technology other than his airbending! And firebenders were told that their bending is at the top of the pyramid and that's why it outclassed and pushed out all other benders who are now in a much smaller number compared to them.

A Link to the Stars Ch. 2 Sneak Peek

Here’s a little blurb from the second chapter of the Legend of Zelda sci-fi AU I’m writing based on the work of @coffebits!! Can’t wait to post the full thing!

“C’mon, Ganondorf!” Another kid yelled. “It’s his first day, let him be.”

Ganondorf grinned at Link when they were face to face. Or, more accurately, face to chest. He cracked his knuckles. “Exactly why I need to teach him a lesson about respecting his elders.”

Link raised his chin and glared up toward Ganondorf’s nose. He wasn’t scared of him. He had faced down bigger bullies than this boy countless times in his life.

Ganondorf’s voice was low when he bent down toward Link. “Gonna keep ignoring me, cupcake?”

A beat. Then, “No.”

A smile split Ganondorf’s lips. “Then why won’t you say anything?”

Link tilted his head to the side. “I try not to waste my time talking to morons.”

Ganondorf didn’t even wait a second before swinging his fist toward Link’s face.

In the end, Link emerged with a split lip, a broken rib, and a black eye. Ganondorf had been rendered unconscious.

They were both assigned bathroom cleaning duty for the next month.
