The Many Languages of Love - Friendship (LU in Healthcare)
Summary: Legend calls out for work. He never does that. So his friends check up on him.
Setting: Healthcare AU
Warriors frowned.
He was looking over the staffing sheet for the night shift to help the night charge nurse coordinate getting coverage, and the latest person to call out was… Legend.
Legend. The same guy who would work eleven nights in a row, who would come in half dead because he didn’t want to get an occurrence and leave the ED short staffed.
Something was very wrong.
Whipping out his phone, Warriors texted Wild first, knowing he was off. When he sent the message, though, it never indicated as delivered.
Wild was likely out exploring his namesake. Typical.
Twilight was working. Four should be awake after his night shift, so maybe he’d try him next. Sky was off too. He’d just seen Time, so he knew he and likely Malon as well were both here. Hyrule was off as well. Wind had school.
Warriors reached out to who he could, and Sky replied first.
He called out? Is he dying?
Idk, Warriors replied. But somebody should check on that.
I’m on it, Sky said.
XXX
The day hadn’t exactly been going the way Legend had planned.
He’d thought the cough was due to the weather change. Sniffles with the shift in temperatures was pretty normal. But when he’d woken up today, he’d felt like he’d been hit by a truck.
It made no sense! The patients he’d taken care of last night hadn’t even been all that sick! The only one who stuck out to him was that awful trauma that had kept him busy for six hours, and then the next hour of time he’d spent with the trauma patient’s family while working on the death packet paperwork. None of the family had been sick, had they?
His symptoms hardly added up. He felt exhausted, and was vomiting so often he could barely hold anything down. But yesterday he’d just had the sniffles like a cold or flu brewing. Maybe it was the flu, he wasn’t sure, but the respiratory symptoms were gone.
In either case, he was too weak to get off the couch, let alone go to work.
It sucked.
Worst of all, his stupid pride prevented him from texting anyone about it. Even though he knew damn well Warriors would get nosy once he saw that Legend had called out. He wasn’t sure whether to be relieved or annoyed about it.
He could take care of himself, and he didn’t want anyone else to get sick. His stomach churned as he thought, it’s a good thing Ravio’s travel contract ended and he’s somewhere else now, or I’d have to drag myself back to my room.
He missed that moron. Living alone was not new to him, but he’d gotten strangely used to having someone else around. Maybe he’d put the word out to get another housemate.
But he certainly wouldn’t do so right now, while he felt like freaking death.
His phone buzzed. It had been buzzing. He didn't care. He saw that there were texts coming in, but his head was full of cotton and he hardly had the strength to keep his eyes open and hydrate.
He should probably start an IV on himself. He'd hoarded enough supplies to do it. But they were all in his bedroom, and he was out here in the den on the couch. Could he even make it that far?
His phone buzzed again. Then there was a knock at his door.
Legend lifted his head from his pillow before plopping it back down and throwing the cover over his entire body, hiding himself from the world. Between his shift last night and how he felt now, he certainly didn't want to deal with people, didn't want to move, didn't want to think.
The person knocked again. Louder. Legend growled and burrowed further into his blanket. Eventually they would go away.
XXX
Ok, so hes not answering his phone OR his door??
What if he's like dying
Maybe somebody should call 911
Twilight stared at the group chat, brow furrowing. Warriors had started texting everyone together after people had passed messages to each other in worry, trying to keep things organized. Time and WIld had yet to reply, but everyone else had chimed in.
Well... except for Legend himself, obviously.
Twilight had been busy ambulating a patient, but he had a moment to sit, and no call bells were going off, so he replied. 911 seems a bit much. I can leave early and check on him.
But I'm already at his door and he's not answering. How are YOU going to check on him too? Sky asked.
I know what I'm doing, was all Twilight said before texting Sky privately, asking him to get some supplies for him.
Twilight glanced towards the manager's office. He could potentially leave early. He would get a write up for it, even if it was for a family emergency, but he didn't care - if Legend was legitimately ill, then he'd take the smack to the wrist. Hospital policies were stupid anyway. Besides, it wasn't like they could afford to fire him, with as short staffed as they were.
He tried to ignore the anxiety building up in his chest. He hoped he was right when he said not to call 911.
When he reached Legend's apartment, Sky met him at the door, holding a small leather pouch. "This is what you wanted from the ranch, right?"
"Yeah, that's it," Twilight replied before grabbing it and opening it. All his lock picking tools were there, and he nodded to himself.
Sky glanced over, eyes widening. "Oh, you have one too?"
Twilight blinked, looking up at Sky. "What?"
His friend smiled innocently. "It's nothing. Can we get inside now?"
Twilight stared a moment longer before shaking his head. Legend could be dying for all they knew, he had to focus. He quickly picked the lock, opening the door, only for a bolt to stop it as soon as he attempted.
Cursing under his breath, Twilight tried to push another tool through the opening to work the latch off the hook.
"Whoever you are, I'll fucking cut you," a hoarse voice threatened quietly, not sounding threatening at all.
"Legend!" Sky called. "Legend, it's us! Are you okay?"
"What the--Sky??"
"Ledge, open the door or I will," Twilight ordered, growing agitated.
There was an incoherent string of curses before a loud thud rang across the way. Sky called out to Legend, who didn't answer.
Twilight had had enough. He kicked once, twice, and the door swung open, latch flying off the frame. He and Sky rushed in to find Legend, pale and sweaty, half collapsed and tangled in a giant comforter, eyes wide with both alarm and annoyance.
"You broke my fucking door!" Legend wheezed before groaning and putting his head on the ground.
"I'll fix it," Twilight answered easily, hauling his friend over his shoulder. "Let's get you to bed and figure out what's happening."
"What the hell, Twi, put me down--"
Sky smirked, relieve his friend was alive and awake. "You should be used to this by now after Time had to carry you out of the ED."
Legend's pale face grew even whiter. "That son of a bitch talked, didn't he, I'm gonna--"
"Enough, save your strength," Twilight interrupted. After he settled their friend in bed, he knelt down to be at eye level with him. "What happened? You look awful."
"Well, now that my door is destroyed--"
"Legend."
"I don't know!" Legend squeaked before moaning, squeezing his eyes shut. "I just feel like shit."
"Well, don't worry about it now, we'll take care of you," Twilight said gently.
Legend puffed out his cheeks to argue before giving up.
Twilight and Sky rotated being by his side and taking care of the apartment, which was a disaster - Legend had been working the last four nights before falling incredibly ill. He never spiked a fever, but he threw up whatever they tossed his way.
"G-gonna n-need an IV," Legend mumbled, exhausted. "Twi... can you...?"
"No," Twilight immediately shook his head. "No, the last time, I--Malon was--no."
"Do you have a drill?" Sky asked. "I bet I can figure out an IO."
Legend glared at him. "You are not drilling into my bones."
"We'll get Wars--"
"Just let me die."
"Legend."
"Where the fuck is Hyrule."
"I'm right here."
Sky and Twilight turned to see Hyrule walking into the room.
"Wait, I swear I locked up," Sky noted.
Hyrule shrugged. "I came in through the window."
Twilight stared. "We're on the fifth floor."
"Yeah?" another voice asked as Wild traipsed into the room. "And?"
Sky shrugged. "I mean, it works."
Twilight chewed on his tongue, opting to thank God they hadn't died rather than chew them out at the moment. "Ledge needs an IV."
"Oh, okay," Hyrule said easily. "You got supplies or do you need me to get some?"
There was a knock at the door as Legend spoke to Hyrule, and Twilight sighed, rising to answer it. He hadn't paid attention to his phone, so when Four and Wind almost barreled him over, he yelped in shock.
"We've been texting, dude, what the hell," Wind snapped. "Is he dead, is he okay, what is--"
"He's sick, but he's stable," Twilight reported as he steadied himself. "I took his vitals, they aren't terrible. Blood pressure's a little low, but not worryingly so. Heart rate's rate at the edge of tachycardic. He's probably dehydrated."
"We should take him to an urgent care so he can get some IV fluids," Four said firmly.
"Hyrule's giving him fluids now."
"He--he is?" Wind's eyes widened. "Wait I wanna see! I never get to see IVs started!"
Wind dashed into the room, leaving the other two and giving Four just enough time to warn him, "Wars is coming up, he just had to park the car. Time and Malon are on their way."
Twilight nodded, listening as Wind chatted and checked on Legend in the bedroom.
By the time he got back to the others, Hyrule had taped his successful IV and was running a fluid bolus into his friend. Twilight sighed, sitting on the bed, watching Legend squirm uncomfortably and try to rest.
Eventually, the entire group was there. They cleaned the apartment, they relaxed in the den and watched a movie, rotating in and out of Legend's room. When the initial fluid bolus was done, Legend's relief was visible.
"You certainly were thirsty," Wild noted. "You feeling better?"
"Still nauseous as hell, but yeah," Legend reported. Then he smiled, looking at all of them. "I... I'm sorry you guys had to come here. But... thanks."
Twilight tipped his head to the side. "That's what friends are for, Ledge."
"Yeah," Sky agreed. "But Twi did totally wreck your door, so we decided we'd take you to the ranch to stay there for a while."
Legend's eyes widened, smile fading. "What?"
"Okay, so we're good to kidnap him now?" Wild asked, glancing at Time.
Time checked his phone. "Malon says the room is ready, yes."
"You little--you guys--you're all assholes--"
"Now, now, Legend, you said you were thankful," Warriors tutted.
"I hate all of you," Legend grumbled, though there was absolutely no bite to it.
"Relax, we'll bring your stuff too," Four assured him. "It's best to be somewhere where others can help you."
Legend said nothing, growing grouchy and exhausted. This work stretch had been longer than most, and he could still hear the family members crying over their lost loved one, could still hear the red alarms. He was beginning to wonder if he was even truly sick at all, having never spiked a fever or been around anyone with similar symptoms. Either that, or his immune system just crashed after...
Well. He didn't know. Heavy stress could lead to illness, but...
Whatever. He would never admit it, but he was grateful to be going to the ranch.
But he knew, he knew he would never hear the end of it once Warriors found his pet bunny.

Version with blood under the cut
Don‘t make Hyrule angry or you’ll have to face the consequences. (Based on my eyecolor hc where his eyes get golden when he’s really angry)
I don’t know what happened to Legend, I just wanted to draw angry Hyrule doing magic 😉

Hi!!! It’s the speedrun anon that talked about Wild fighting Ganon with a pot lid and spoon :3
I am so happy you wrote a lil series on my idea!!! It really means a lot ❤️
I had another idea, because I’m crazy—in the Linked Universe comic, when Twilight gets hit by Dink and is basically dying, I was thinking about his wound and how they treated it…
Since it takes place in Medieval times, how clean was the actual wound before Hyrule started healing it?? A fun idea I had was: Ikesai!Reader using modern medicine to help treat Twilight (and the others as they traveled)
Pain meds, Neosporin, bandaids with fun patterns on them—maybe even a first aid kit if they knew they were going somewhere dangerous. Reader would treat small cuts and they’d heal quicker overtime without using magic. It saves a lot of time, energy, and money for the group; Hyrule doesn’t have to use his magic as much, potions aren’t wasted on smaller wounds, and none of they’re wounds are infected!!
I feel like the climax of reader using these methods would be Twilight’s injury; they ask Wars to go to the nearest bar and grab the strongest alcohol there, they ask Legend for a needle and some fishing line, and ask Hyrule to using magic to numb the pain of the wound.
Unwrapping Twilight’s bandages, with alcohol and needle in hand, Reader begins to sew up Twilight’s wound. It’s crude and disgusting, using only found objects and most likely mead to sterilize the needle and fishing line. Most would leave the room, but Hyrule would have to basically sit there and watch this random person sew up a wound like they were fixing a tear in fabric.
Once the wound is sewn up and cleaned, it looks a lot better than it did before. There is still the strange magic surrounding the cut but at least it’s closed up now. Reader’s hands are bloodly and smell like mead, but at least Twilight’s wound isn’t making him bleed out.
It healed quicker once Hyrule began to use healing magic on him again, the dark magic around the wound is in a more condensed area so it’s easier to dispel. The only problem…is that Reader has to take out the thread, and this time, Twilight’s awake.
—🌾 Anon (I’ve never named myself in anonymous I hope that’s okay :))
Yay! My first emoji anon :D Sorry this took so long! I got way too carried away learning about medieval medicine lol. I kind of skipped right to when Twi's injured because it was already 2k words long and an intro would have most likely doubled the word count askdfsl.
“Shit. Shit. Shit.” You chant it like a mantra. The entire way back to the village. The entire time it took to drag Twilight off Epona and up the stairs as Time arranges your lodging with the innkeeper.
“I’m fine. It’s just a scratch.” Twilight tells you for the fifth time. He still seems cross that he was benched from the fight, but his voice has much less bite behind it now.
You’re losing him.
“It is not ‘just a scratch,’ Link!” You scold. You can feel tears prick at the corner of your eyes. The use of his real name seems to bring him back a bit, but his eyes are still too unfocused for your liking.
Too much blood. He’s lost too much blood.
You remove one of your hands from his side, where you had been trying desperately to apply pressure to the wound. Your entire hand is soaked in blood.
“Press down here, okay.” You move Twilight’s hand to where yours had been, only taking your other hand off when you’re sure he’s properly applying pressure. “Don’t stop, okay? I’ll be right back.”
Before he can answer, you bolt out of the room and back down the stairs. You run headfirst into Time.
“Woah! Careful,” he says. He looks at your hands, covered in blood past the wrists, and winces. He holds up a pile of white cloth. “I got bandages from the innkeeper.”
“That’s not going to be enough.” You scrunch up your nose at the bandages. They looked clean, but you doubt they were properly sterilized. The one drawback to having fairies and potions magically heal everything is that these people had absolutely no idea how to treat a wound without them. “Go to the kitchen and get vinegar and honey. And see if the innkeeper has any silk thread. If not, try whatever craft store equivalent you guys have.”
Time can only watch as you take the bandages from his hands and rush back up the stairs. After a quick stop to wash your hands, you practically sprint back to the room.
Twilight is still conscious when you get back, thank Hylia, but he doesn’t turn his head to look at you when you come in.
“I’m back.” You tell him as you kneel next to the bed.
“Don’t sound so worried. It’s not like I’m going anywhere,” He smiles. “You were only gone for 30 seconds.”
“You were coughing up blood, Twi!” You peel his shirt away from the wound and quickly press some of the bandages Time had given you against the wound. It would have to do for now. “That means that the thing cracked your ribs and one of those ribs punctured your lungs.”
“I’m pretty sure the fairy took care of that.” He winces as you press even harder against the cut.
The blood won’t stop.
Before you can descend into hopelessness, the door bursts open. You jump at the noise, and turn to see Hyrule in the doorway, with Four close behind. They both look out of breath.
“So it’s true… it really is him.” Hyrule gasps. “I think I can help.”
“Fairy didn’t do anything.” You sigh, removing one of your hands to wipe the hair away from your face. The color drains from the two heroes' faces when they see the blood.
“I have a life spell.” Hyrule’s palms glow blue as he hovers them over Twilight’s body.
Nothing happens.
His brow furrows as he tries again. He thrusts his hands forward.
Nothing.
“No!” Hyrule cries. Twilight seems to have finally passed out from the blood loss.
“Crap,” you mutter. “Where the heck is Time with that thread and antiseptic.”
“Here.” The old man in question pushes past Four, who seems to be clinging to the doorway for support. He hands you a bottle of vinegar, a jar of honey, and a spool of silk thread with a needle stabbed into the side.
“Great, thanks.” You nod at him. “Rulie, keep that spell going if you can. The wound may not be healing but he had some internal injuries that I want to make sure won’t be an issue. The fairy stopped halfway through and I’m not about to do DIY surgery to remove shattered rib pieces from his lungs.”
Hyrule presses his lips together in a thin line and nods. His hands glow once more as he performs the life spell. You peel away the bandages you had been pressing against Twilight’s side.
“Sorry, buddy. This is going to sting,” you apologize, then pour the water from your canteen over the wound. The old blood washes away, only to be replaced rather quickly by more from the cut.
“What are you doing?” Time asks when you pick up the needle and thread.
“Stitches.” Is all you say as you hold the needle over the candle on the nightstand. Hopefully the heat will disinfect it somewhat.
“You're just going to… what, sew him back together like a torn shirt?” Four looks ready to puke as you begin sewing the wound. Time looks away, trying to ignore the faint sound of the needle sliding through bloody flesh. Hyrule can’t seem to look away, gaze locked on your hands.
“Magic isn’t working to close it,” you grimace. “This is how we close large wounds back home.”
“I know you said you didn’t have any magic where you lived, but this…” Hyrule swallows, hands still over Twilight as he casts the life spell.
“I think I’m going to be sick.” Four covers his mouth with one hand as you continue your work. “I’ll go see Epona is comfortable or something.” He rushes down the stairs so fast you’re surprised he doesn’t trip down them.
“Eh. Probably for the better. Too many people in here probably isn’t a good idea right now, anyway,” you cut the thread, satisfied with your stitches. They looked almost professional, with nice, even spacing. But you would have time to be proud later. Time to make sure infection didn’t get in there.
“How long will he be out for?” Time makes a point to look only at your face as he asks the question. Maybe he should leave, too. Watching you couldn’t be good for his health.
“Hard to tell. He’s lost a lot of blood,” you explain as you pour the vinegar into the honey and mix it together. “Do fairies and life spells fix blood loss?”
“I have… no idea,” Hyrule lowers his hands. He looks exhausted. He must have expended every last bit of energy casting that life spell for this long. “I don’t think I’ve ever seen a wound bleed this long.”
“Great,” you groan. Hopefully the magic could deal with the blood loss like it dealt with broken ribs and punctured lungs, because there was no way to tell anyone’s blood type here and you did NOT want to play roulette with a blood transfusion.
“What are you doing?” Time asks again. His voice is tense as you begin spreading the vinegar-honey mixture over Twilight’s wound. You have half a mind to kick him out of the room right there, but he’s technically the family of the patient. Still, if he was going to breathe down your neck the whole time you wouldn’t have much choice.
“It will keep out infections. The vinegar and honey are really good at keeping bacteria out,” you wipe your hands off on your pants, trying to get as much of the honey off your hands as possible before reaching for your canteen again. You wash your hands again, just to be safe, before reaching for the pile of remaining bandages.
“Bacteria? What’s that?” Hyrule asks.
“Very, very small organisms that can cause infections if they get into the wound,” you sigh. You don’t have the time to explain germ theory to them right now. You wrap the bandages around Twilight’s abdomen as tightly as possible. Vinegar-honey oozes from under the bandages, and even now, you can see the deep red of Twilight’s blood seeping through.
Crap. This was going to be a long night.
The next few days pass in a blur. Check the wound. Change the bandages. Try to measure Twilight’s heart rate with just your hand and a watch (his pulse seems okay. Hyrule’s spell must be dealing with the blood loss). Shoo people out of the room. Check the wound. Change the bandages. Try not to fall asleep.
When you’re not watching over Twilight, you’re taking care of an exhausted Hyrule. Using the spell so much for so long was taking a toll on him. He looked about as tired as you felt.
Still, Twilight was improving. Most of the color was back in his cheeks, and he kept waking up to say random depressing things before passing back out. Maybe that's why you finally let yourself drift off into sleep, sat on a stool and slumped over the side of the bed.
The feeling of someone rubbing your hair wakes you.
“Y/N?”
Your eyes snap open. Twilight is awake. He’s propped up against the headboard of the bed, his fingers threaded through your hair.
“Please tell me you slept while I was out,” he laughs, but his smile doesn't reach his eyes. He’s worried about you.
Hey! That was your job!
“You scared me half to death!” You sit up and punch his shoulder. Now that he’s finally awake, you have an earful and a half to give him. “What on earth were you thinking, sprinting towards that thing!?”
“Ow,” he chuckles.
“Don’t worry. The old man and the captain already chewed him out,” Wild snickers from somewhere behind you. Looking around, you see the entire chain scattered about the room.
“Good,” you flop your head back onto the mattress. Your eyes still ache from so many sleepless nights. “How long was I out?”
“Nearly half a day,” Legend snickers.
“Crap,” you groan. Twilight’s bandages should have been changed hours ago. “Did anyone change the bandages? Please tell me you washed your hands before. Oh, and did you apply the antiseptic?”
“Easy there, doc,” Warriors places a hand on your shoulder. “The wound has pretty much closed thanks to you and Hyrule.”
“WHAT?” You bolt upright again. “It should have taken at least a week, maybe two!”
“Magic finally started working on it while you were out,” Hyrule explains. Great. Just great.
“Then I need to take the stitches out,” you press your knuckles into your eyelids, trying to dispel your pounding headache.
“Stitches?” Wind asks.
“They sewed him back together like a garment,” Four grimaces.
“But then shouldn’t the stitches stay in and keep him… together?” Sky peers around your shoulder as you unwrap the bandages. He gags when he sees the cut, which was now just a long red line across Twilight’s stomach and lower chest. Wind tries to elbow his way to see as well, but Sky stops him.
You get up to wash your hands, and when you come back, Twilight is poking at the stitches.
“Don’t touch it!” You swat his hand away. “I didn’t make my own antiseptic for you just so you could infect the cut after it’s mostly healed!”
“You really did just… sew me closed,” he sounds shocked.
“Yep. Now hold still,” you carefully cut each stitch, removing the thread, small beads of blood forming where the stitches used to be. He winces at the feeling. Time watches closely, knuckles white as he grips the footboard of the bed.
“Woah. All that was inside his skin?” Wind stares dumbfoundedly at the pile of knots you removed. You nod, and keep working.
“There,” you sigh as the last bit of thread is removed. “Just keep the area clean and you should be good.”
“Do you do this every time people get hurt in your world?” Legend raises an eyebrow.
“No. Stitches are just for bigger cuts,” you explain.
There’s a moment of silence before Wind speaks up.
“Can I get stitches?” He asks excitedly. A chorus of nine voices responds.
“No!”
Notes:
Vinegar has antiseptic properties, while alcoholic drinks do not due to their low alcohol percentage. Honey, an ingredient found in mead, has some antiseptic properties, meaning mead also could be used to disinfect a wound, but a combination of honey and vinegar seems to be more effective.
Today, most stitches are made of synthetic fibers. Fishing line is also made of synthetic fibers, like nylon. However, in the medieval period, fishing line was most likely made of nettle-hemp. Today, fishing line would be a great material for stitches. However, I think silk, which is still occasionally used today, might be a better option (silk was also used to make fishing line, but it seems only after the industrial revolution got started).
Also, stitches don’t hurt coming out. I had stitches in my foot (a pretty sensitive area) as a kid. I also have an incredibly low pain tolerance and an intense fear of needles. You can kind of feel them pull, and if you’re squeamish you might freak yourself out, but it definitely doesn’t hurt. Although, I once heard of a doctor that didn’t undo the knots, thus pulling the entire thread of knots through the skin, which would absolutely hurt like hell, but that was because of his incompetence lol.
I made it so reader doesn't see the magic around the cut, as I think isekai and modern readers would have a harder time noticing it. We don't have magic, so we would probably not recognize it if we saw or felt it. It is still very much there.

Ooo thank you for the fic rec with Wind and Legend. What a sweet premise. I read the first sentence and right off the bat it opens with how Wind can see ghosts!!! I'll have to give it a read!
Love a queered into oblivion Legend let's gooOOO!!! xD Yes to everything! (and TAZ: Balance!!! It's such a good story! I've listened to it like three times through.)
Jumping up and down over your art, Perry aaaAAA!!! >:D
Hi Ray!! Hope you're doing fine ^^
Kinda random question, but I guess Wind is your favourite Link so, do you have headcanons for him?!
And if not, who's your favourite blorbo? >:·3
(no pressure to answer this ask tho hehe!)
Hiya Perry!
My favorites go like this! >:D
(Hyrule and Wild are fighting for 4th with Hyrule at a lead lol. He's grown on me since getting to know Zola! xD )
I can share some headcanons for all of them! (I got excited getting an ask from you so I drew a couple things and wrote a lot ashgfjsdfs. The post got long so I'll thrown in a read more somewhere.)
Four
Reading buddies with Twi. They tell each other about what they're reading. Sky and Wind like to listen and ask questions.
Pegasus boots + Roc's cape = some pretty impressive jumps (eight-foot vertical leap Griffin McElroy meme.) He's only outmatched by Rulie. Four and Legend should compete to see who has the greater horizonal distance.
Four loves purple sweet potatoes! It's sweet, umami, filling, and how often do you get to eat something that's purple? It's kind of an expansion of/inspired by a hc + art by w1lmutt. (imo Four's a fan of purple food in general. Four and that one girl from Tarrey Town are the biggest fans of Wild's monster cake recipe.) Set Four up with a purple potato right off of the fire and he's doing great. (Do you think he could have a potato cooking on the side while working at the forge? in like a dutch oven? put the potato in the forge!!!)
The name of the forge is the Four Element Forge (which I first read in blueskullcandy's fics! ("Alone Together" I think?))
Four has a cat! Tongs the Benevolent has my whole heart. (Tongs is also the creation of blueskullcandy @fuckit-hero-of-trains. Hi Train! Here's a little fic of them meeting x. here's art I made of her x. here's Train's tag for her x! More!)
Four with headaches / migraines. There has to be some trope about inflicting the clever/thinker character with head hurty and I'm here for it with Four. Any pain can make it difficult to think, but having that pain be concentrated to the head is more poignant, idk xD something to impede a strength of his. I also think that Four having migraines that are worsened by light is poetic, as being hurt by light gives him something in common with Shadow.
(Four with a headache with Tongs and Twi helping <3 )
Thoughts on the Four Sword's abilities: Can the elemental magic infused into the sword be tapped into and does it still have the ability to make ghost / prism refraction copies?

(img from IGN)
cont. In Minish Cap, as you power up the White Sword with the elemental stones, you're able to summon copies of Link. However, Link can only do this over specific tiles, the prisms run on a timed meter, and if they're hit they vanish. It's like a magic meter! I headcanon that Four isn't great with magic himself. However, if the prisms are summoned by magic, then what if it's Four channeling his magic into the White Sword to get that to happen. (also, maybe he's been relying on help from the tiles or Ezlo.) At the end of Minish Cap, he put the sword back and that was that. At the start of FS/FSA however, something changed when he pulled the sword, causing him to split fully. Maybe the sword needed something different from him. Maybe he was so frantic about Zelda being kidnapped and needing to defend himself from Shadow that he poured too much magic into the sword and it changed him. Maybe the sword's power upgraded. Whatever happened, he no longer has access to the prism ability of the Four Sword and instead splits, with splitting not being a drain on his magic. Four has just assumed that the prisms is an ability the Four Sword no longer has. Put the Four Sword into the hands of someone else with magic, though, and this isn't the case! (or maybe it's a scenario with an earlier iteration of the sword.) I have a scenario in my head where Four is separated from it in battle and Wind picks it up. Wind channels some magic into it on reflex for a spin attack or something and the prism copies pop up much to EVERYONE'S SURPRISE. Wind would think it's So Cool. Why haven't you shown us this before??!! Meanwhile Four just, honestly didn't know it could do that anymore. Cue Four Sword show-and-tell because what could be the harm (Four doesn't have to tell about the splitting thing and maybe the chain can help him learn about the copies) Wind, Legend, Time, and Hyrule can pull them up with ease. Put the sword into the hands of Hyrule or Legend who are more familiar with magic, however, and I think they could tap into the elements infused into the blade. Each of the copies channel a different element: being wind, fire, ice, and stone (with the Four Sword itself being Light.) Hyrule's able to move the copies around independently of each other but it takes a lot of focus. Legend on the other hand is better with the elemental stuff but he can feel there's something more to the Four Sword. Like, "Four, the magic well in this item is pretty deep / unstable. I don't want to tell you how to use your items, but careful not to put too much into this." Four: *wtf wtf wtf.* Or Legend would try pushing the boundaries of the sword, start going weird and flickery, and would be hastily stopped by Four.
Wind
He and Aryll meow at each other! >:3c He meows during a side-quest and I want an excuse for him to do it more often. I think he and Aryll are very much the type to make weird noises in greeting.
Cartography and navigation buff! Phantom Hourglass has you marking up the map so I think it's something Wind's good at and enjoys. Celestial navigation is in there too. Beyond using the stars to navigate, I think he's into star stories. Each constellation has a story that Wind is happy to retell. He wants to collect as many and their variations between eras as possible.
Wind has to admit that Twi, Sky, and Wild's pumpkin soup is pretty good (not as good as Grandma's, but still pretty dang good.) He got a pumpkin sprout in Sky's era and it lives in one of his bottles. Its name is Soup!
Fandom headcanons I've picked up that I'm fond of: Wind can see ghosts, Wind needs new shoes and isn't super jazzed about all this walking, Wind's family shield is passed down from Four, Wind is scared of / intimidated by large birds which opens up storytelling opportunities with Sky's loftwing, (honorable mention to the WW headcanon that Link's nearsighted due to him squinting in cutscenes. I don't hc it for LU Wind but it's neat to see it picked up! (ex: Wind from Linked Maze!))
Legend
I love Sister_Dear's writing (@sister-dear hi Sister 😳) and my interpretation of Legend reflects that. (here's Sister's list of Legend headcanons lol) (Keso's art is a big influence as well.)
Legend with arthritis / chronic pain in his hands/knees. It's just nice to see nods to it. Legend massaging his hands, or using a cane (louieeeee!), or grumbling about the weather. There's a headcanon that goes along with it that he has rings which lessen the symptoms.
Legend as poly and bi for Marin and Ravio. Courtesy of Wolfy (@wolfy1298) and this comic.
Genderfluid Legend. I like Sister's bullet-point, "Goes by ‘he’ but feels fairly ambivalent about the pronoun. Doesn't like to present as overly masculine. (Either a case of Legend being all ‘fuck gender roles’ or his Hyrule just having different gender norms.) Likes putting on dresses and makeup when the opportunity arises, doesn't like to do his hair." That! But I like to add that Legend will swap pronouns as well on what feels best. Hand-Me-Downs by That_G3_Obsessive (@that-g3-artist 👋) is a favorite of mine and has beautiful representation of genderfluid/queer Legend. Legend figures Wind could use some better fitting clothes, and shifting through Legend's wardrobe leads Wind to ask about the dresses there.
(has Taako from The Adventure Zone vibes going on in presentation and snark. Love me a bunny toothed GNC gay elf wizard twin who has a secret they don't want anyone to know and who's done with this shit. Please appreciate Taako thank you yippee yahoo!)
(Tried drawing Taako to mixed results but I think Legend would dig his vibe!)
I tried to throw in a number of hcs~ideas that are more personal / that I haven't had the opportunity to show through fanwork yet. To be fair, sooo many of the headcanons I have for the chain though are an amalgamation of things picked up from the fandom (I could go on with Legend and bunny mannerisms or Four with portal sickness xD ). There's a lot of really great work put together by so many people. It's wonderful to get to be a part of it!
Thank you for the ask Perry!!! >:D
#linked universe#keep#you drew it in two hours??? that's faster than I was able to 'xD#I'd also love to see everyone's hero rankings >:)#hehehe I do like yours better where Roolie and Wild are sharing the platform xD#maybe mine could have a continuation where they start laughing over the ineffective and awkward tussling#and Rulie pulls Wild up#eeeee >:D#YOU DID A SWEET POTATO COMIC AUUH??? AAAA????#(also thinking about the similarities between Taako and Legend is what got me thinking that Legend might take inspiration from Taako#I wonder who else in Hyrule Leg would find that in?#comradery in Warriors and Hyrule. War's confidence and Hyrule's honesty. maybe not even pieces he'd like to pick up#but things he admires in general and that inspire him to be more himself. idk xD something like that. something to think about )#lu legend#lu four#lu wind#lu hyrule#lu wild#lu fic#lu headcanons#lu fandom#lu hero rankings
