original story concept: Wings of Atlas

aka me shoving my new OCs in everyone's faces for a few minutes. low and behold, my gang of losers:

so a wayward beam of divine insanity lightning struck me about four months ago in the form of the first genuinely coherent original story idea i've had in... basically forever and i am finally crawling out of my mad ornithologist lab to talk about it, if only so i have something to point to when i start tagging random innocuous text posts with the names of characters no one's ever heard of. this project is perhaps the most self-indulgent Autism Fueled venture i have ever gone on and it is so fun actually

the basic gist of the story is that local Teenage Bird Hater Selene accidentally gets isekai'd to a Greco-Roman/baroque-inspired city on a floating archipelago hidden in the clouds, inhabited by bird-worshipping winged people. there she befriends a strange one-winged fortune teller named Phoenix, who takes her in while she looks for a way back down to earth.

as a certified Bird Disliker(tm) for reasons she will absolutely not disclose, the idea of being trapped in this city with its strange bird-entrenched culture has got to be Selene's personal hell. but she's already made a few good friends and is learning a lot, so hey... if you ignore the castle surrounded by doves looming off in the distance, and the general poor sentiment surrounding corvids, maybe it's not such a bad place to be after all.

...until it turns out the king himself might have it out for her, much to the dismay of his son and loyal knight, Prince Helios and Captain Killian.

there is. A Lot more to it than that lol—and at least like 8 more characters i haven't gotten to drawing yet—but there's your elevator pitch. to explain the world a bit more, everyone has bird wings to fly with, their own Bird Familiars(tm), and rides around on pegasi and different species of griffin. the world consists of little islands connected by bridges, with the city developed vertically, and sort of resembles a fusion between the Aether mod in Minecraft and Zephyr Heights in MLP G5.

two - is a bit personal... it's how I feel and maybe I'm the only one, but for me it's that I'm terribly afraid of being perceived (that's why I'm on anon :'l ). Kä's community seems like a very tight and very talented group of friends mainly having conversations in the tags, and I often feel like if I don't have anything neat to say - then I'm just barging into a friends group uninvited.. even if I know it's completely unreasonable and not true. It's very hard to shake off the feeling that if I reblog too much, OP will look at me and think "ahhh this weirdo again". So I'd use likes instead, because mostly no one notices who gives likes so it's much easier, but then it seems everyone hates likes so I stopped leaving them too (´･･`)

i made that post because i'm just a small blog, so i get it, but then i saw art from -in my opinion- popular artists with several notes that are mostly likes, i thought it was just the kä fandom. I come from a huge fandom where 1k notes post are very common, and today i checked again and the proportion of rb and likes are similar (or worst? 200 rb and 800 likes 🥴), so... it’s just how tumblr works i guess

However, on tumblr what keeps a post alive are reblogs, but it’s fine if you don’t like something or just ignore it, we can’t expect to everyone to love what we do, but sometimes (more than i'd like to admit) i think “maybe is not good enough”. Personally, when people share their thoughts in the tags, it makes me so happy (I always read what people say on my art, it’s one of my favorite things to do, but i rarely respond because i don’t want to be annoying 💀...)

Being afraid of being perceived is something i can relate to, sometimes it feels like everyone here are friends but you... but tumblr is make for reblogs and silly tags, you can talk whatever, interactions are completely fine, rarely I've seen people getting mad because reblogs 🤔

just a question as a writer and seeing your writing. how long did it take for you to get more popular? for your work to spread around? it's been several months and I've released a few sfw and one nsfw work, and I get a lot more attention for that, but my sfw works get a little love. I've been asked to write another nsfw following the plot line of my first, but i feel little motivation to do so because I feel few people will see it and it takes me hours to write and polish n' stylize before I post. how do I spread it and feel less stranded?

i've been writing on this blog for about four years now so it's hard to recall exactly when my blog picked up, but generally, the more i wrote the more attention i got- and boy did i write a lot, if my izuku masterlists (yes plural) are any indication 😅

the best advice i can give you is to just keep on writing for your own enjoyment and use the right tags.

#character name x reader #fandom x reader (example tags: #izuku midoriya x reader #bnha x reader, and variations like #midoriya izuku x reader #izuku x reader #deku x reader) usually do the trick.

i avoid general character or fandom tags (ex: #izuku midoriya #bnha) cus not everybody wants to see reader inserts.

beyond that? try to make some friends in your fandom, and they'll usually spread your stuff around in turn.

and yeahhh nsfw stuff generally gets noticed more than sfw works unless you're a dom!reader writer like me haha. shorter works like drabbles and short thirsts also usually get more attention than longer fics in my experience.

Hi sorry asking anonymously because I'm super embarrassed but how do you have conversations with people on this site? How do you interact with people?

Well okay I've had various different blogs on here over the years so I've done the whole "aggregating mutuals" thing from scratch multiple times and honestly it all just comes down to not being afraid to chat with people directly I think. The best thing to do is really just find blogs that have things in common with you and ideally are already kind of "chatty" (as in making personal/conversational text posts relatively frequently, writing thoughts and opinions in the tags of posts they reblog) and then...chatting with them. Reply to their posts in a friendly way or comment on their tags when you reblog the same post from them. You can also send them asks directly with a thought or question or compliment or something but that feels a little more pushy imo lmfao. Not inherently bad, it's just that I think most people who have been here for a while are used to getting random asks from strangers that are alarming or unpleasant so seeing a notification in your ask box can be foreboding 💀 And idk talking in replies/tags just feels more casual to me. Inside voice. An ask is kind of like someone coming up to you and sticking a microphone in your face and less like actually speaking to someone on equal terms.

There aren't hard rules or anything tho and if you're on here long enough you'll probably get used to um. The "etiquette." Which isn't even universal in the first place lmao. The only things I would avoid are like. Reblogging someone's post and commenting directly on the post itself unless you're already friends (very alarming. Who are you and why are you stealing my post.) and just generally acting overly familiar but that obviously goes for real life too. Don't expect most people to follow you back instantly either btw and it's not like an insult if they don't. It just depends on the person? Some people will see a blog with similar interests who seems normal and just follow back instantly regardless of whether you've ever spoken directly, and some people might wait until you've interacted with them a few times before they consider following back, and some people may just never follow you back if they're not interested in what you're posting. It's not about you personally 😭 And some people have a looooot of followers already and therefore a looooot of people trying to interact with them, and so you might just get lost in the crowd. Some people also have been here long enough and had enough bad experiences that they just never follow new people, or even block new people who try to follow them. Just remember none of it is personal 👍 They don't know you any more than you know them. Be normal and kind and you will survive 💖

1.historical or futuristic

a rule of thumb about getting to know me and my writing is i’m not a fan of writing things that are TOTALLY in the realm of our reality. i will write fanfiction and i have (1) story where it’s fully set irl with nothing crazy happening but i’m just not a fan of being historically accurate. i’d rather get inspired by history and make my own shit based off of, or just be generally futuristic or removed from a time that can be recognizable.

2.the opening chapter or closing chapter

this is hard bc i kind of don’t like doing either. however i have written more preemptive endings than beginning sequences and i enjoy being able to tie everything up with a bow based on all that history established in the narrative before.

3.light & fluffy or dark & gritty

if i had to pick i’d pick dark and gritty simply bc extremely light hearted stories do bore me fjfjfjrj. it reminds me of a conversation i had with my religious mother once where i said i think the concept of heaven is boring simply because once you’re totally removed from struggles and hardships it becomes difficult to find the value in happiness and good times. i don’t want people irl to struggle for shit they don’t have to (like food or shelter or safety or whatever) but learning to work towards goals that you want and having roadblocks or hurdles you have to overcome really makes you appreciate when you get there imo. so as irl, i apply the same logic to my storytelling. if there isn’t shit the characters have to overcome then what’s the point of the story lol.

i will say this with the fact that i do enjoy thinking about and talking about characters being happy and fuwa fuwa, and i don’t typically like writing bleak or dire endings, but i think some struggle is important. builds character (literally).

4.animal companion or found family

to keep this answer short i’m just not that attached to animals personally. i think they’re cute and should be preserved and taken care of but i don’t wanna do it so i don’t put them in my stories like that.

5.horror or romance

definitely both but i really like injecting my work with horror. horror romance itself is a great genre lol so like. would rather not pick but i think horror slightly edges out.

6.hard or soft magic system

eugh this is hard bc all magic is good magic to me— however i think soft magic is a bit more flexible which i like. semi-hard magic systems are usually where i’m most comfortable because i like having established overall guidelines for how magic works and who can use it or what it entails but i don’t like getting into the super nitty gritty spell type shit bc that’s more video game land aka practical application. stories are more about the aesthetic and about the vibe so some flexibility is good :)

7.standalone or series

i am incapable of writing stand-alones every time i try it always ends up bigger than i planned. i have some standalones in the works tho that won’t be getting any bigger i know for a fact (they’re contained and i have self restraint occasionally) but i love being able to worldbuild and plan to my hearts content so series is more fun lol.

8.one project at a time or always juggling two+

9.one award winner or one best seller

i like scifi but i tend to gravitate away from it bc it tends to require more hard/practical application—as in i feel pressured to have a legitimate reason why shit works as it does bc it’s more technological than fantasy where i can say “shit happens just cuz.” i think a sweet spot for me would be if i can learn how to chill out and do more fantasy-scifi hybrids but i have no clue how to do that yet LMAO.

i enjoy both, but i picked setting bc i think with how this question is worded it means characters physical appearance and that’s lower down on my list. i like describing characters emotions and headspace more than what they look like lol.

i’ve never gotten to that point but the idea of being so happy with something that i don’t have to FULLY rehaul it is a lovely fantasy.

HAHAHAHAHAHH oh, anon you've opened up the biggest can of worms😈

SO one thing to get out of the way is that I do NOT have an ear for lyrics. My partner makes fun of me for it, frequently. But given I started writing a bard-centric fanfic, I wanted what I included to make sense in some capacity (esp with the WIPs I haven't published yet for reasons people will hopefully see before I die).

Writing has been very hard atm so I don't have one song I've been focusing on for You're At The Top of My Lungs. But! I do have songs that I've been listening to for WIPs and also some fun stuff for future chapters that have already been written for YATTOML.

So...for the WIPs? It's still Very loosey-goosey atm AND this song literally just came out but "The girl, so confusing version with lorde" by Charlie XCX has been on repeat the past few days because it's a bop but also because I've been associating with a Modern AU with Gale x Tav but they WEREN'T childhood friends beforehand. The lyrics have nothing to do with it, but the song feels linked to them, now. It be like that sometimes.

Similarly, for YATTOML a song that accidentally became attached to a chapter is Femininomenon by Chappell Roan. I'll probably mention it in the chapter notes once the chapter is posted, but I have yet to decide if I'll put it in the fic's playlist or not. Again, lyrics have nothing to do with it but there's a lot of action in this particular chapter where the flow and energy of Femininomenon just fits.

Lastly, there's a Modern College AU that I've been trying to solidify that I have an entire album that's...perfect. But if I had to share One song it's Love by Hana Vu. I recommend her whole album, Romanticism to everyone. I like imagining that Poppy could have written this album, it fits her so well.

anyway...that's ONE question lmao let's get to the others.

🩷 Pink: Do you find a certain character (or characters) easy to write? More difficult -- and if so, do you avoid writing that character (or those characters) when possible?

Honestly? I have a hard time writing most of the rest of the party. I think I've said this in an AO3 comment or tumblr tags or something but I find it very difficult to Not start every sentence Karlach says with "Hey Soldier!" and every sentence Astarion says with "Darling." This can be fixed if I go on youtube and watch dialogue videos for all the other characters but I just...don't. Maybe the lack of Lae'zel in my fic also shows how idk how to write her 💀. I try to include the group as best I can because Gale x Tav doesn't happen in a vacuum but I definitely avoid writing the others lmao. I just want to listen and stare at our resident wizard hehe.

🤍 White: What's a fanfic scenario or idea you'd like someone else to write so that you can read it?

Gods. Hrm. So many of the scenarios I have in my head are so Poppy x Gale centric that I can't imagine other people writing them. But generally I would love more Modern AUs. There's a lot of Gale x Tav bg3 story/game playthrough fics out there and (if I can share a hot-take) an over-saturation of them. A little ironic/hypocritical coming from someone writing one of those very fics but ah whatever. No shade at all to anyone trying to write those fics, please please do it. The best thing I've done for myself this year is start writing about my Tav and Gale. Get those words out. Post it. Keep writing and keep posting. Don't let one millennial on the internet tell you what to do lmao.

Most of the Modern Gale fics I've seen are professor Gale x student Tav. Granted, I don't expand my reading horizons into many other relationship combinations (I read some Bloodweave here and there) but that's the go-to Modern AU because his good ending in bg3 is Gale becoming a professor (and professors are HOT!!). It's why I'm excited about my Modern College AU. I've very recently been inspired by The Season by Linnetagain and have been considering Actor Gale x Musician Poppy for that aforementioned "Modern AU with Gale x Tav but they WEREN'T childhood friends beforehand" I've been thinking about with Charlie XCX in the background. I have a hard time with making other Modern AU situations happen because of reasons I'll get further into in the next ask I have in my inbox (coming shortly) but in short, Poppy is a Very Very old OC and she has Always been a musician. I have a hard time inserting her anywhere else.

No no not mad at you sorry 😅 just frustrated in general. Because it has been happening since 7.4. Just the other day I went into the Ryan tag and the first thing there was a gif of Buck and Tommy Kissing. Eddie Diaz is being tagged in posts about how soft and great Tommy is with Buck. Buddie tag here and ao3 is being flooded with posts about Tommy. I saw one yesterday tagged Buddie and it was how the poster hoped they would get to see a ton of scenes with Buck Chris and Tommy, eddie not included. I told someone else this the other day that was confused why more and more people seem to be “snapping” at Buck Tommy Shippers, it’s because tagging exists for a reason. And we are all thrilled for canon bi Buck being confirmed finallyyyyy after all these years. But not everyone is a multi shipper. Which is fine. And not everyone is a solo shipper. Which is also fine. And the first few days after 7.4, a few incorrect tagging posts not a big deal. But here we are two weeks later and it’s still happening. ao3 stories are being labeled as Evan Buckley/ Eddie Diaz and then they are buck Tommy stories. They are being labeled buddie and pre relationship and then nothing even hints at romantic about buddie in the stories. It just focuses on Buck and Tommy. Here on tumblr the Buddie tag is getting influxed with I ship Buddie still BUT and then it’s an essay on why Tommy is so great and why everyone should think so to and if they don’t your suddenly phobic posts. Or posts about how people need to stop making bi Buck about Eddie while they then in turn make it all about Tommy 💀. Neither post however is actually about Buddie. So the growing frustration is coming from now even the people who are completely neutral about the Tommy of it all and still waiting for Buddie and just trying to enjoy the ride, now suddenly can’t seem to curate their experience because people won’t tag correctly. Every tag it’s becoming essentially shoved down people’s throats of how great Tommy is. And isn’t Tommy the best. And Tommy and Buck are so great and so in love and it’s the best thing ever. Like they had 1 bad date, and 1 kiss. Which again for the die hard Buck and Tommy shippers more power to ya. I am genuinely happy you get to experience this. But for the people neutral on this specific relationship or just not vibing with Tommy in general, trying to go into the buddie tag, or the Eddie Diaz tag, or the Ryan tag every day for two weeks and not seeing those tag related posts anymore and instead seeing Tommy Tommy Tommy I’m sure you can see where the frustration comes from and why it building and more and more arguments are breaking out. Buck and Tommy have to my knowledge their own tags and I don’t know if buddie shippers are going into them and doing the same thing there in which case my point stands for them as well to stop doing that and tag correctly. This got way wordier then I meant to and I have no idea if it makes any sense 😂 but basically

TLDR version: not mad at you specifically OP but would really like people to start tagging correctly again so people who want to see specific tag related posts can start seeing those again.

The Rooster one is solidly set in a star wars fix-it verse where everyone lives and goes on fun little adventures + anakin is a good dad but also the octopus one is pure Horsemen fluff and cuddling on the couch for movie night so the choice is difficult to make

I'd like to say my cadence is pretty proficient. I have to work for it, but when I try I can make my writing pretty rhythmic and that's super fun, especially when writing angst or scenes with poetic tones

this is super specific but I have a hard time pacing the descriptions and general imagery throughout a scene. Usually I get so caught up in the introspection of the character that I forget to mention what time of day it is or where they're having this particular conversation or how they got from point A to point B

I'll give it a shot whenever it feels appropriate for the character. Though if the language in question isn't one I'm proficient in, I tend to just skirt around using it. I'd rather write the necessity for it out of the equation than miscommunicate. Single words is fine most of the time, since those have the easiest meanings to confirm and I'm less likely to make a grammar infraction

i used to adore panic from my early to late teens and still listen to the first four pretty often but i just can't for the life of me get into pftw & the three singles. idk if it's cause i don't like urine as a person or if his songwriting is genuinely just awful imo but i can't stop hating on it <3 also i keep seeing people say the new one has pretty odd vibes?? like po was actually good & imaginative idk what they're on about. or maybe i'm just a bitter old person now lmao

tbf i only got into panic right when 'they' were starting the too weird era and even when i was most into them i wasn't *that* familiar with the band's history/drama but no i think ur right lol i don't think he's ever rly been a great songwriter what he's had, however, is a lot of luck and talented ppl in his corner he could hide behind (bc the frontman is always gonna be the center of attention regardless of their involvement in the process)

ryan was always the one responsible for the theatrical/creative aspects and the lyrics in the beggining and you could tell bc there was a shift when he left but it was still pretty good bc of jon's (i think? correct me if i'm wrong) and pete’s involvement in vices. then around that time i think dallon joined, and we know he's a pretty good songwriter and artist in general, and someone else said it best in the tag that too weird was basically repuposed brobecks he didn't release and he carried most of that album on his back ...beebo piss basically just showed up and sang. i quite liked that one but i can't listen to it now bc remembering how shit beebo piss is and my hatred for him vs how much i love certain songs makes trying to listen feel like i'm a demon trying to enter a church lmao 💀

then doab you can tell he was more involved bc it was MIIIIIILES from what the 'band' used to be and a lot more focused on like, lyrics-wise living large and the pursuit of fame, money and drugs with a bunch of high notes so you'd think it was amazing (and my 15/16 y.o ass thought like half that album was THE SHIT for how it sounded) less creative both in lyrics and imagery and more in line with what was popping off at the time instead of going against the current

but like literally with pftw (which even when i was listening to him still i thought was just the cringiest and most try-hard name) is when it really starts to show he's literally just bad lyrics and high notes in a trenchcoat bc dallon wasn't there anymore and there was no one to hide behind so he had to do all that shit himself. i s2g the only time i listened to that album in full, a bunch of songs fused together in my subconscious bc they all sounded SO SIMILAR i knew they were different but they were just....eh i don't remember being super blown away by any of it and it was by far my least favorite bc it was just. SO pop. i simply couldn’t even bring myself to listen to that silver lining song bc the lyrics and the singing were ATROCIOUS like.....oh my god. yeah...

i haven't listened to any of the singles from this album except for a clip of the newer one to see how bad it was and....it wasn't just bad...it was *REALLY* bad. there's this massive post that compares his newer stuff to rejected imagine dragons and i think that's kinda generous bc imagine dragons might not be 'amazing' but at least they're consistent and the vocals/production is alright. even before for mr piss if the lyrics weren't great he could hide behind good vocals, decent production or talented band members but now even his voice, the star of the show, now sounds so strained from all the drinking and smoking that he can't pull those same notes he used to as his 'one trick' so it's straight up unsalvagable because there's nothing going for it like 'oh the song isn't great but the lyrics are good' none of that. it's just ALL bad now.

i've seen ppl say 'oh but he wrote some songs in po and those were good it's bc he has a lot of cowriters' but it's like. if he was actually good on his own he wouldn't need them and working with them wouldn't make the music worse. i think he's gotten way too comfortable over the years with other ppl doing the work for him and letting fame get to his head and he's no longer capable of making anything good bc he's not that person he used to be (and even then idk if he was v good as a person...)*edit: he's also surrounded by yes men and enablers (Idk if that creepazoid Zack is still around...)*he's been beating a dead horse for years after everyone that made it what it was (good, unique,etc.) left and thinking he was too big to fail. now no one's interested in his music anymore bc not only is he shit, his music is shit too. u kinda almost have to wonder how he managed to push everyone away. he should have taken the L and let the band name go years ago but he knows he's nothing without it and anything he can do on his own will never reach that level so he's living in a shadow thriving of the nostalgia of times long gone but it's just starting to not cut it anymore and people are starting to really see it, i think.

also i absolutely from the bits i have unfortunately seen, don't think it resembles po in any sort of way: it's not folksy, it's not imaginative it's just more sterilized top 40 friendly pop that sounds like 50 other artists and you could tell me anyone else made and i'd be none the wiser. there's no heart it in but it's sure to do well.....delusion is one hell of a drug ig
