i was playing whatsamusic earlier and i had a choice to make

i ended up picking El Scorcho. it opens with a line which tells you exactly why it fits the prompt(whereas Pink Triangle doesn't get questionable until the chorus), but it didn't get me questioned by the guy who's stream i was playing on(while Across The Sea probably would've gotten me questioned like "what the fuck is wrong with you")

i also briefly considered No One Else, but quickly decided against that one, as it's not autobiographical and i wanted to pick a song from Pinkerton specifically

funnily enough, the clip of El Scorcho that whatsamusic uses doesn't even include any of the questionable lines, so i had to say in the chat "i chose this song bc of the first line" and also tell them what the first line was lol

i hate how mainsteam fanfiction has gotten...why am i seeing acticles from vulture discussing fanfiction...why are people selling and buying fanfiction bound like books...why are people talking about and recommending fanfiction like they're books...why is more and more fanfiction getting published and those books getting turned into films...don't get me wrong i love fanfiction i still read it actively but there used to be a seperation of church and state as it were and now that seems to be gone

I think there's a real issue rising with regards to fanfic in which it is losing its main purpose, which is to entertain without serious criticism, because why would you apply serious critique to something that is simply made for fun and for (and this is important) NO. MONEY.

And a lot of it is written by! Minors!

I haven't written fanfic in 10+ years at this point, and I did write MOST of the fic I wrote (which isn't a lot) as a minor. It's far from my best work, and I wouldn't want to be judged on it the way I would want to be judged by work I publish as a professional author (and btw, I do hope to do that some day, and I do WRITE FOR MONEY RIGHT NOW, which means I am totally used to critique for things! I get paid! To do!).

I do have feelings about how we put fic on a pedestal, but I also genuinely think that we are fucking over fic authors (and to a lesser extent readers) when we're like "ooooh, look at this, so much better than anything published" and put some poor stranger's random lines on Twitter or Threads or whatever to be eaten up by the masses who do not read fic and don't know the etiquette. Because there are the people who uphold fic as Inherently Better, which I think is shitty, and there are people who would never admit that a beautifully written fic (and those exist) is beautifully written purely because it's fic, and will mock it to death. Which is also shitty.

The safe spaces are being destroyed and commodified, and sometimes the authors of the fic are complicit, and sometimes they're being used by people who commodify their fics without their permission through unauthorized book binds for sale, etc. A quick search on Etsy reveals dozens of Manacled binds, merch with fic quotes, etc. And while the author of that fic wouldn't be able to legally authorize that anyway because IT IS A FIC, I know for a fact that they wouldn't even have done this covertly because they have rewritten and sold Manacled as a book.

(And I also think that conversely, there is some gross dismissal of authors who begin with fic-to-books, because when that is done properly, there is a lot of work that goes into transforming the work. There is editing, there is critique, and I think you can see a lot of growth from authors who've been in the game for a while. Christina Lauren started out with a Twilight fic to book, and they've transformed their style MASSIVELY over time. Ali Hazelwood is really shifting in a big way. Do all authors put this work in? No. But to brush these uniformly off as if there isn't work and originality is... bleh.)

I'll be honest, I find it to be a real turn-off when Bookstagrammers recommend fics as books. Literally, I see them refer to them as "books". They're not. They're fics. There is nothing wrong with them being fics. That is still an art form. But it is a different art form, and it should be respected as that, and books should be respected for what they are.

I also want to add that for a lot of young fic authors especially, fic acts as training wheels. It was that for me. I wrote fic when I was a baby. Literally like, 12 and using a fake name online to avoid predators lol. And I wrote fic for historical shows when I was a bit older (but still quite young) because I was interested in writing historical fiction at that time (and I still am, but on the historical romance bent) and I was deliberately playing in a safe space where I felt I could experiment without having to do the heavy lifting that a historical fiction author often does. I could familiarize myself with the Vibe while playing in an existing world where readers knew the rules and I didn't have to sift through biographies and academic resources if I didn't want to. I didn't know how to do that! I hadn't been to college! I was a teenager!

It feels like that capacity for experimentation is being taken away as it's commodified. And frankly, we're also drifting into some pretty murky legal waters with some of this stuff, and like. I don't know. Ethics of marketing anything off the back of the monster that is JKR aside, is it really that *safe* for publishers to be using Dramione to market Dramione-fics-to-books when the author is an extremely wealthy loose cannon who could sniff the wrong mold and let loose some lawyers at any time? I don't know. Stephenie Meyer decided not to do anything (publicly) to address 50 Shades back in the day, but a lot of legit sources indicated that she considered it.

I just think that we're basically seeing fic fall into the world of capitalism, and while that's not something that NEVER HAPPENED before (again, Twifics were converted to books way before BookTok and Reylo books and Dramione books and so on) it's way bigger now, and I don't think it's good.

Also: This isn't even getting into the ethics of RPF, like the 1D fics, the Taylor Swift fics (I.... can't handle Taylor lyrics as book titles, and while I don't super care for her, I do think that's very much an invasion and not something I would intentionally do as a writer, sorry) and so on. I have read sapphic books that I'm fairly certain had TSwift inspo, and some of them were good books! And I actively try to promote sapphic books because they're underrepresented in the genre! But I won't lie, I feel kind of weird about those books sometimes because? Yeah, I see the blatant Taylor inspo, and I know that she's expressed discomfort with that, and specifically the Gaylor speculation.

Again, really don't want to sound anti-fic here. I think that fic, in its purest form, is great. (Okay, I do think RPF fic is weird, but I'm not gonna look at the 12-year-olds who wrote 1D imagines back in the day with a harsh eye because... we do things when we're 12.) But dude, it has GOT to be its own thing.

Btw In this chapter Logan might seem a little mischaracterized, but bare with me, you’ll understand it in a few chapters. I promise.

Chapter 08

The week after, Logan started showing up to more training sessions, but Charles had made it a point to train you individually. It was a good excuse—plausible, even—but you knew the real reason. He couldn’t stand seeing the two of you together. The way Logan’s confidence seemed to grow every day only made it worse. Charles’ jealousy was palpable, though he tried to hide it behind his usual calm demeanor. But you noticed. Of course you noticed.

When you finished training that day, you were about to leave the mansion, but Logan stopped you. He was leaning against the doorframe, his arm casually blocking your path, a smirk playing on his lips.

“Wanna go somewhere?” he asked, his voice low and rough. “You’ll like it.”

You raised an eyebrow, intrigued, and nodded. He led you to his car, and you didn’t ask questions as he drove. The destination turned out to be an abandoned industrial block. It didn’t look dangerous, just forgotten, but it piqued your curiosity. You followed him as he guided the way, climbing stairs and taking an old elevator until you reached the top floor. What you found there surprised you—a makeshift boxing ring, an old couch, and a small kitchen area. It was raw, unpolished, and completely unexpected.

“What is this place?” you asked, looking around with wide eyes.

“An old ring I used to fight in,” Logan said, his smile easy and open. “Wanna try?”

You couldn’t help but smile back, amused and a little excited. You climbed into the ring with him, his tall frame towering over you as he stood across from you. The tension between you was thick, but it wasn’t uncomfortable. It was charged, electric, like the calm before a storm.

“So… how does this work?” you asked, trying to lighten the mood.

“When I play, there are no rules,” he said, his tone teasing but with a hint of danger. “But since you’re a newbie, I’ll give you the benefit—I won’t use my mutation.”

You smirked, deciding to test him. You focused your mutation, trying to control his breathing, but it didn’t work as well as you’d hoped. He breathed irregularly for a moment, but he didn’t falter. You cursed under your breath and decided to go for a more direct approach, landing a playful punch on his chest. The two of you started sparring, trading light blows and dodging each other’s moves. It was fun, almost like a game, but there was an undercurrent of something deeper—something neither of you was ready to name.

“Just so you know, I’m being gentle,” you teased, dodging one of his swings.

“I’m not the person you should be gentle with, kid,” he shot back, his grin widening.

The playful banter continued as you traded punches, switching between offense and defense. At one point, you tried to immobilize him, climbing onto his back. But when he reached to pull you off, you both tumbled to the floor, landing side by side. Both of you burst into laughter, the sound echoing in the empty space. But then your laughter faded as you looked at him, really looked at him. He was beautiful when he laughed, his face relaxed, his eyes crinkling at the corners. It was a rare sight, and it made your chest ache in the best way.

Logan noticed your sudden silence, his gaze shifting to meet yours. His expression softened as he saw the way you were looking at him—like you were memorizing every detail of his face. He sat up, leaning closer to you, and before you could say anything, his lips were on yours.

The kiss was soft at first, tentative, as if he was testing the waters. But when you didn’t pull away, he deepened it, his hand cupping your cheek as he kissed you with a hunger that took your breath away. You kissed him back, your hands tangling in his hair as you sat up, straddling his lap. His hands roamed your body, pulling you closer, his hips grinding against yours in a way that made your head spin.

He groaned, his hands slipping under your shirt to unhook your bra, his fingers teasing your breasts as he kissed you harder. You could feel his erection pressing against you, and the heat of it made you moan into his mouth. But then, just as quickly as it had started, he pulled back, his breathing ragged as he looked at you with a tenderness that made your heart ache.

“I wonder if it’s too soon to make you mine,” he said, his voice rough as he played with a strand of your hair.

“Wasn’t I already yours when we met?” you replied, your voice soft but teasing.

He smiled, pleased, but then his expression turned serious. “I’m sorry for ignoring you for a bit,” he said, his tone apologetic. “But I gotta be honest with you. I come from the—”

You cut him off with another kiss, not wanting to hear excuses or explanations. It didn’t matter where he’d been or why he’d stayed away. All that mattered was this moment, the way his hands felt on your skin, the way his lips moved against yours.

But then he stopped again, pulling back with a frustrated sigh. “It’s too soon, y/n,” he said, his voice strained. “I came here with a mission. I can’t—”

“Then why did you bring me here?” you asked, your voice tinged with frustration.

“Because I missed you,” he said simply, his eyes locking onto yours.

His words hit you like a punch to the gut, raw and honest in a way that left you speechless. Before you could respond, he pulled you into a hug, his head resting on your chest. It was intimate, vulnerable, and so unlike the Logan you thought you knew. You wrapped your arms around him, your fingers tangling in his hair as you held him close. His body pressed against yours, warm and solid, and for the first time in a long time, you felt safe.

So I recently finally acquired a Playstation 5, which means that, in addition to things like finally being able to play the Burning Shores DLC for Horizon: Forbidden West (highly recommended game series, btw) and Maquette (which I've had on PSPlus for a while now and have wanted to try), I get to actually play Dragon Age: the Veilguard (hereafter referred to as Veilguard because the definite article shouldn't be there if you ask me).

And my hot take for Veilguard is that...I'm actually enjoying it so far.

Just finished recruiting all my companions, and while this might not be the exact game I wanted, I'm not mad at it. There's only one real gripe so far.

But the stuff I like?

There's actually a lot of little things that remind me of the previous games, not the least of which is hearing minstrels as I walk through the hubs, playing the tavern songs from Inquisition. And I'm pretty sure the background music in the character creator switched to Inquisition music when it was time to recreate my Inquisitor.

Just how lovely and plentiful the hair options are. No more do I have to put up with three styles of crappy pigtails and twenty flavors of bald!

It has an appearance option for clothing so I can keep "wearing" the same set of armor even as I switch to armor with better stats.

There's mantling (aka when you grab on to the edge of a ledge and pull yourself up in games, which the Inquisitor couldn't do but Rook can, making platforming a little more forgiving).

Interrupted party banter resumes after the interruption is resolved!

There's no trash loot that I have to manually move to my sellables category. Anything that's meant to be sold goes to "valuables" automatically, and everything else is gear I want to keep anyway because finding more copies of it upgrades it and adds bonuses, so even early gear can still be useful later on due to this system.

It has a photo mode that lets me hide the characters so I can pull my old Horizon stunt and just take screenshots of the pretty scenery (I foresee my computer wallpapers getting swapped from the Horizon photography to this in the near future).

I can use companions' traversal abilities without them needing to be in the party! (No more needing to always bring a mage and a warrior and a rogue with me just in case I run into something only that class can interact with.)

Sure, there are small things that bug me. It'd be nice if characters had better animations in conversations (Neve sits very stilted, with her hands tucked in her lap, no matter what she's saying or who she's looking at, for instance), for one. Or if I didn't feel like I was always running out of gold right before finding an upgrade to an item that I actually wanted (seriously sometimes the shops are a little too scattered).

But the only real gripe, one that I sincerely hope they fix with a patch in the nearish future, is the romance lockout for Lucanis early on.

Because you see, not too far into the game, you're made to choose between Minrathous and Treviso to defend against a dragon. Neve and Lucanis insist you choose theirs, and you send two companions to aid one while you and the remaining companion go to the other. Whoever you don't go to aid becomes Hardened.

That's all fine. I don't mind decisions like that.

The problem is that if you choose Minrathous, Lucanis is locked out as a romance option. This doesn't happen with Neve. She's still romanceable if you chose Treviso, it just takes a bit longer, apparently. Not only that, but Lucanis will still romance Neve, even though he won't romance you.

It's the lack of parity that bothers me.

Ideally, a potential patch would unlock Lucanis's Hardened romance. Failing that, they should lock him out of romancing Neve, and/or lock out Neve as a romance option if you chose Treviso, to match locking out Lucanis for choosing Minrathous.

But so far, that's the only real gripe. I'm still having fun with this. It still feels like a Dragon Age game to me so far.

Hey Quinn,

I'm gonna be honest, I completely forgot that I put my info on that site. I'm not even sure how you found it because it must have been years old. Suffice to say, your letter was a bit of a surprise. Not that I'm complaining! It actually came at the perfect time. Oddly enough, I also just graduated and am planning on going to Gotham University in the fall. We can be buddies!

Besides, it's nice to hear from someone who isn't one of my brothers. They have a unique ability to pester the living hell out of me and I'm running out of non-relations to talk to.

So, official new best friend, I guess I should tell you a bit more about me too. I’m doing a double major in business and computer science at GU. A bit less noble than your career, sadly, but I’m mostly just doing it to help - Bruce - my father (it’s complicated) with his business. He doesn’t want to run it forever and I’m the only one of my brothers with any real interest in running a company. If I’m being honest though, I'd much rather just focus on the computer side of things and do something fun. Your video game sounds awesome and I seriously hope you'll let me play it one day.

I can also relate to your whole only child thing. Back in the day I was technically an only child too. Well, for the first half of my life at least. It's a really long, kinda traumatic story so I won't bore you with the details. But overall I get it. You don't have to worry about stereotypes here, just be yourself!

On to the questions!

Q: Why are you looking for a pen pal?

A: Well like I said, I actually forgot that I put my info on that website. It was so long ago, I think it was before I was even adopted. I probably did it because I wanted a friend, or at least someone to talk to. My childhood was, in a word, really lonely. I was a bit naive and probably hoped that by writing to someone I could fill some of that gap and find someone to connect with. (is this too emo? This might be too emo.) Anyway, back to the present. Now I’m just excited about the idea of starting school with a new friend - You're totally right about the ice breaker thing btw, we're going to have an awesome story. My other friends either live far away or are also going to out of state schools. How dare they abandon us like that?

Q: What are your interests?

A: I'll take your word for it about the questions, I don't even remember my login for the website to check. I promise I won't tell you how incredibly handsome and charming I am in real life, lol. (Can you say lol in a letter? I’m gonna do it anyway). Anyway, interests. Well, I kinda hinted that I'm a computer nerd already. My brothers would tell you that I constantly have my head in my laptop, which may or may not be true. I wish I was more of a reader like you, but I think that gene skipped me. I don't have the patience to sit still for that long. Other than that, I'd say I like finding new ways to be active. So far I've tried three types of martial arts, gymnastics, and yoga. I tried running once and immediately ended that. It's an awful hobby, 0/10 do not recommend. And last, but probably most important, would have to be coffee. I think my body has adapted to absorb it into my bloodstream. I might actually need it for my continued survival. If you ever need a recommendation for a cafe in Gotham, let me know though. I’m pretty sure I've tried them all at this point.

Q: If you could have any superpower what would it be?

A: I love your answer, but I have SO many logistical questions. Like, would you still age if time slowed? Are other people aware of the change in time? Do you stop it locally or everywhere at the same time? I feel like research needs to be done about this. I could write a whole paper on it. (sorry, nerd, remember?) As for me, I actually have two answers. The fake answer that I usually tell people is flying. You'd be surprised how much this question actually comes up in my life.I usually say that it would be so fun to fly like Superman and get everywhere faster and blah, blah, blah. But my real answer - since we're being honest with each other here - is that I think powers are overrated. I mean just look at Batman and Robin, they get along just fine without any supernatural help. Heroes like them show their strength through their training and dedication. That's the real power.

Ew, cringe, I just read that back and it sounded so lame. I'd rewrite it but I'm actually out of paper - the truth it is. I kind of went through a big superhero phase when I was younger - I guess it’ll never stop following me. If my brother Jason ever saw this I would never live it down.

I'm also incredibly sorry for my handwriting, it will be a miracle if you can read at least half of this. Surprise surprise, I usually tend to stick to keyboards. Maybe in the future we can email? It would be faster and maybe I'd be able to delete some of the cringy stuff I write without having to start the whole letter over again (which I definitely didn't do at least twice).

do you have recommendations for rpgs? i have only played bg3, dragon age, and mass effect. also nothing is more important than romance to me sorry to serious people

yess! this post from the other day is a good starting point (and i think op has some similar lists on their blog) but here are a few that would be good to get started with if you want to branch out:

(btw, these are only games i've played - there are a few i see recced a lot that i haven't gotten around to yet lol)

divinity: original sin 2 - you've probably heard of this if you're into bg3, but it's worth trying. the gameplay is very similar, except it doesn't use a d&d ruleset or have any animated cutscenes. there are romancable companions, but they work differently to bg3 in the sense that you have to choose your party composition early in the game and stick with it, which is fun for replayability imo. i don't think the companions are as interesting as the ones in bg3 either but they all have interesting stories that run parallel to the main plot

pathfinder: wrath of the righteous - wotr is another crpg, imo it can be a little hard to wrap your head around at first compared to bg3, but once you're past the learning curve it's really fun. the writing and companions are all really interesting and it's great for letting you roleplay as a wide range of characters and moralities - some of the romances go deep into sicko territory which is great for me personally. there's a ton of reactivity as well, each "path" (your specialisation) has its own set of quests and will affect your relationships with companions. nobody will love you if you become a lich :( . the main issue with the game tho is it's bloated and long (i've literally never finished a run because i get distracted 80 hours in) but it's worth the time you put into it imo

baldurs gate 1 & 2 - these games are kind of dated but if you can handle dao, you can probably manage them? it took me a few tries to get a feel for the first one, but once i got into it i played through both games without stopping lol. they're real time with pause like origins and only the second one has romance (though the ee version adds romancable companions that appear in both games which is fun).

pillars of eternity 1 & 2 - honestly, i'm not super into these games but other people really like them and i understand why. they're a really good modernisation of the original baldurs gate / infinity engine games with a narrative that lots of people are into. the first game has no romance and is real time with pause, while the second game will let you romance characters (some of them reappear from the first game, so i guess you can treat it like a realllly slow burn) and play either real time with pause or turn based.

disco elysium - okay, there's technically no romance but it's so good that i'll rec it anyway. it's a crpg but has no actual combat, the writing and story are really unique and it's just a great experience to have.

enderal: forgotten stories special edition - this game is really hard to recommend because it makes me sound crazy but please hear me out. this skyrim mod is maybe one of the best games i've ever played. if you have skyrim special edition you can download and run it for free, mechanically it runs pretty much like skyrim but the writing and story are insane. the romances are also good, there are only two main ones but they're very tied to the plot.

skyrim...?: if you haven't already played skyrim and you want to get it for enderal then it's also worth playing anyway. it's my horrible wife that poisons me whenever i try to divorce her but it's a fun experience. the romance is pretty shit but there are some good mods with romancable companions (i like gore, he reminds me of marcus lol). it has a lot of the same issues in its writing as dai does, but the world is designed so well that i can play for hundreds of hours just doing my own thing and ignoring the main quest

there are LOADS more but these are just a fun starting point based on liking bioware and bg3, hope you enjoy!

well rlly my first piece of advice is !!!! only play … if u have enough time . in your life . 😭😭 bc mysmes is a pretty unique otome game in the sense that you play the story in real time, meaning you have to check the app throughout the day and participate in enough chat rooms to avoid a bad ending (<- there are tons of these btw). no matter the route, it’ll take you eleven days to complete the story ! :3c i’m pretty sure you can’t miss more than 50% of the chats each day. and they pop up consistently every few hours or so! you cannnn use hourglasses to get chat rooms ’back’ after they disappear, though i wouldn’t recommend doing that since they cost money … they’re pretty cheap though so it’s up to u !!! just be aware that this game is infamous for ruining sleep schedules LMAO .

hmmmm also ! on the topic of bad ends, each route has like … seven ? endings in total and most are bad! (they’re generally rlly fucked up or crazy BHDJJS some are just sad though….) the ending you get depends on your story choices but also how active you are. to get a normal ending you need to make the right choices and keep your activity fairlyyyy high (again, 50% each day is probably enough?), and to get the good ending you need to do those things and invite enough guests to the rfa party (<- this will make sense once you play the game LMAO .. there are guides that’ll give you the ’correct’ guest responses, so i’d recommend using those :3c)

i think that’s it … i hope i’m not overwhelming u BHSHHSHS IT’S A RLLY FUN GAME . flaws aside. Okay so my insights about Alien: Romulus.

I've been a fan of the xenomorph franchise since 1997 when I first saw Alien Resurrection. It also made me a massive fan of the gorgeous and sometimes deeply disturbing surrealist art of H. R. Giger - to the point that I have his art tattooed on my skin (no, not the usual xenomoprh or the Li painting variants but a less known pieces called Vignettes).

So, back to Alien Romulus from someone who loves the franchise.

In short: Overall a solid 7+ / 10 from me despite some big flaws. If you like xenos; watch it!

Things I liked:

Solid story. Some say that it's a remake of the original Alien film, but I disagree. What did you expect? It's an Alien film. This is what Alien films are. All of them. I love it. 1. Someone is stupid enough to get an embryo inside a human. 2. Mayhem ensues. 3. A third stupid someone finds the place deserted (and this is where the story begins) 4. Mayhem ensues, again. 5. Final girl scene. Tell me this isn't the basic skeleton behind each and every Alien film. Good. Now can we just enjoy this predictability that's part of the fun?

As someone who's also read all the audiobooks and dramatisations made for the francise that are unconnected to the films plus the original Alien 3 script dramatisation (which is amazing btw, has Lance Henriksen and Michael Biehm playing Bishop and Hicks, warmly recommended listening), this film is a solid expansion of the universe. It explores the franchise universe from its own point of view - even though it includes several nods to the previous films. In my opinion it wouldn't be as good if it didn't have those touching points to the other films and apparently to the games as well.

Gripped my seat so tight that my dog found it uncomfortable to sleep on my lap XD The horror and thrilling parts were exquisite. Perfect execution.

Practical effects in 2024? HELL YES. I need to watch it again just to marvel at them again.

Perfect execution of set design that followed the original designs of the 1979 Alien film. Spot on. Absolutely adored the choice.

With that, including nods to Giger's original, overly sexual designs - perfection. I saw someone complain about it and I thought that they must've not ever checked Giger's art. That's exactly what it is. Call me a freak, but I loved the choice.

Loved the design of the grown xeno hatching from an egg. Every film brings a new fracture of info of the xeno growing cycle into light.

Andy!!! Hello? What a beautiful character. An A++++ performance from the actor. I honestly first thought based on his facial expressions that he was done with CGI. I was amazed when I realized that it was a real human being acting. Mind blown.

Now, things I didn't like in the film and that were big ones.

Showing where the xenomoprh problem originated and wreaked havoc on the space station - a BIG BIG minus. Part of the enchantment of these films is to learn with the characters what happened. I don't want it to be told to me as the very first thing in the film. Very disappointing choice that took part of the anticipation and horror away from the start.

Why were the face huggers in the fucking freezing pods? I have questions: - couldn't they just freeze the real eggs or were they running out of space on a fricking huge space station? They could've just stored them in a cargo container outside the station in space, in the fucking cold that would've taken care of the freezing. - who the fuck did the job of taking the facehuggers out from the eggs??? When the egg opens, the facehugger wakes up. I need an explanations - Overall: why there weren't any eggs??? They're part of the FUN.

WHERE WAS THE QUEEN WHO LAID THE EGGS???? I need her in EVERY ALIEN FILM. E X P L A I N !!!

They showed just one corridor leading to the hive? BORING. Show me the whole hive because it's always the only way out. Except this time and...dissapointing.

Acid blood not speading in zero G? It does get force to move from the impact of the bullets, thus it should still spread more violently in zero G and not just stay in place. Especially since in zero G it has nothing else but air that resists it's movement. My mind couldn't buy that.

They already did the humanoid white skinned xeno/human hybrid in Alien Resurrection. They could've invented something new.

Rook's CGI? If I can clearly tell something is CGI while watching on a large screen, it's badly made CGI. Rook was supposed to be a physical, remaining part of a synthetic. They made incredible practical effects for the xenos for this film and already Aliens had great puppet for broken Bishop. Why not go with a puppet instead? It would've been amazing. (To anyone who says they didn't like Rook: watch the original Alien. He IS a piece of shit. You're right in not liking him.)

Hi, I'm dumb so forgive me if this question has an easy answer; is there a viewing order for Revstar? I'm trying to get into it, but I have been putting it off because I couldn't tell where to start

I assume you just mean the anime, but since there are also a bunch of stage plays and spin-offs and a gacha game, here's an overview and my personal opinion on a good viewing order:

You should definitely watch the anime first. It's only 12 episodes but it spends so much time developing each and every character and making you truly feel for them, plus it's the most experimental piece of media in the franchise and where the Utena influences are the most visible, so it's a treat to watch. I don't know if it's an unpopular opinion or what, but the stage plays didn't do nearly as much to develop the characters or their relationships with each other due to the obvious time constraints, so if that's your first run-in with the franchise you'll probably be disappointed

3 OVAs which take place during the finale and which I didn't know existed for the longest time. They're short and sweet and have some good character interaction, though you don't really have to watch them

I know there's a manga prequel with nine chapters introducing each of the nine girls + a bonus chapter that takes place after the finale. I haven't read it though

Rondo Rondo Rondo: it's a movie recapping the series from a slightly different perspective and including new scenes. You don't have to watch it but I'd still check out the new scenes on Youtube at least, especially the one after the end credits which is a direct lead-in to Gekijouban

Gekijouban Revue Starlight: the sequel movie. Absolute masterpiece, required viewing, budget was off the charts, elevates the series to new levels etc. etc.

As for the stage plays, again, I recommend watching them after the anime if you're interested. Doesn't really matter if you watch them right after the anime or after Gekijouban because the stage plays have their own plot that is only tangentially related to the anime, but they do have to be watched in a specific order:

As for the gacha game, I don't play it but there's a lot of content which cross-references either the anime or the stage plays so I'll just direct you to this post (meant to just share the original one but Tumblr won't let me click on the original post to get the link) which also includes a guide about the viewing/playing order. Overall I think you could start playing after watching like, the anime + Gekijouban + possibly the first two stage plays?

PLEASE don't feel threatened by all of this btw. You can just watch the 12-episode anime and Gekijouban and be perfectly fine 'cause everything else is just extra. I've only watched the anime stuff and the first four stage plays I mentioned 'cause the gacha game and later stage plays add too many characters for me to keep up with

Kellington’s Games Played 2024

So unfortunately this year I didn’t play at least 10 video games I’d never played this year. Yes throw tomatoes at me. I was too busy playing some of the most exciting ones. Regardless, I still look forward to this every year SO!!!

#8 Kingdom Hearts 3: I want to say I had fun with this one but honestly I really didn’t :/… It does NOT live up to KH2, while a lot of the gameplay was pretty good, it mostly felt just super repetitive in a bad way. There’s a lot of cute moments though. The Monsters Inc level was definitely the most fun and most creative imo. I always love seeing Sora, Donald, and Goofy though. My sillies :). Still had some fun, just wasn’t it for me. 5/10..

#7 Baldur’s Gate 3: Ugh I spent almost 300hrs on this game. It has so many glaring issues, but I wouldn’t have played it so much if I wasn’t having fun. I’ve been playing 5e since I was a teen, it’s far from my favorite TTRPG, but still holds a place in my heart. There was a lot of fondness at getting to see all my favorite monsters in such a large scale game. However, this game sucks in so many ways. Sooo many glitches, such a weak story, and god so much more that’s so much worse. However I still came out the other end with some love for it. Wyll’s by far my favorite character in this game, he’s funny and witty and I just liked going through his story and being his bestie. The main appeal of this game for me was definitely using D&D combat in a few new and interesting ways. Also multiclassing has never been more fun. I can’t confidently recommend this game, it’s got some really REALLY big issues, most that other people have discussed much better than I have. Do not put this game on a pedestal, it doesn’t deserve it. 5/10.

#6 Kingdom Hearts 2: SAURRRR fun! Definitely my favorite KH game! This one really really endeared me to KH as a franchise and especially Sora as a protagonist! Also Cloud and Yuffie are there. Still no Barret so I have to dock points off. As fun as this game is, I can’t speak toooo highly of the story because Christ is this franchise confusing. I AM playing all the games btw.. or well.. watching some of the less fun ones :P. So I’m not missing anything, this series is still just over complicated as hell. Nonetheless I love visiting silly Disney worlds with Sora, Donald, and Goofy. These games are sillyyyyyy and that makes it all worth it :) 7/10

#5 Sonic x Shadow Generations: RAHHHHHGGGGGGHHGGHH SHADOWWWWW! Well firstly let me say I’d never played Generations before now, it’s such a good one, I love love love the levels, really good. But we already know Sonic Gens is good. SHADOW GENS FUCKING KILLS!!! God can Ian Flynn ever miss? Shadow’s story has always been deeply important to me, y’all KNOW how much I love Maria. This game was full of lots of wonderful moments with Team Dark and Shadow’s family, adore adore adore!!! And of course I’m over the moon to see Black Doom again. The real only reason this isn’t a #4 is because it was short but sweet. I would’ve loved to have seen this game closer to the actual size and scope of Sonic Gens. But it’s just got a couple less levels. Also no Westopolis so points off for that. However all the levels we DID get were WONDERFUL!!! Overall this game was LOVELY!! I highly recommend it if you haven’t played it yet!!! 8/10

#4 Final Fantasy VII: Rebirth: Debated a lot how high up this game would go. Story kinda pissed me off, but it was so fucking fun, so insanely beautiful, that I just can’t help but putting it any lower on this list. The team attacks are what sold me on this one, they’re so fucking cute and insanely fun, they did a lot to put a new spin on a classic gameplay wise. UNFORTUNATELY.. Story kinda sucked ass. Get Zack outta here. However, POINTS BACK FOR FUN AND SILLY BARRET AND YUFFIE MOMENTS AND AERTI MOMENTS!!! Also the dates were super cute and fun, Barret date my beloved. And most importantly… BUGENHAGEN!! WE GOT MY FUCKING SILLY OLD GUY!!!! ALL IS WELL AND RIGHT WITH THE WORLD WE GOD BUGENHAGEN WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!! Anyways. Overall, can never live up to the classic.. but still a 8/10.

#3 Hi-Fi Rush: RAHHHHH THIS GAME OWNS!! God the characters are so fucking fun, the music fucks insanely hard, and the level design is SO FUCKING FUN!! Not to mention I’m a sucker for fully 2D animated cutscenes, that shit fucking owns. Chai is such a fun protagonist, love this silly guy. Peppermint and Korsica are some of the characters of all time. And I LOVE this game’s exploration of disabled characters and corruption in the medical industry. All with music and levels that completely kick ass. So glad this game got on PlayStation finallyyy. 10/10 Kellington would recommend!!!

#2 Hades 2 [Early Access]: FUCK HOLY SHIT THIS GAME IS SO FUCKING FUN RAHHHHH!!! If TFS hadn’t come out this year this would’ve been an EASY GotY. I fucking adore the leveling system, character design, combat, and level progression. Points off for Arachne not looking like a spider though. Insanely badass to have a really cool lesbian protag so points back for that. Leaving my thoughts on Hades 2 at a 10/10!!!

#1 Destiny 2: The Final Shape: Well well well, look what ongoing video game won “Cloud’s GotY” once again, surprise surprise. Anyways JESUS FUCKING CHRIST. Talk about knocking the ball out of the fucking park. THIS WAS SO GOOD!! It’s definitely the best of D2 if not the best of the entire franchise. Insanely beautiful level design, invoking storytelling, and FUCK YES PRISMATIC SO FUCKING FUN. To wield Light and Dark abilities at the same time just fucking owns. I haven’t stopped using Prismatic even once since it came out (RIP Chaos Reach). A beautiful beautiful ending to my favorite game of all time. Perfect, I only wish Lance had been here for it. 100/10

i'm actually not a big one to go back and watch games in their totality (mostly because they're harder to find the older back you want to go/if they were on other networks), but i can recommend some games that have some real 1634 vibes based on the highlights i've seen!

for games i watched last year, they only played about half the year together and considering auston was injured for a large portion, his output was a bit lower and less dominating. i think the best ones off the top of my head were 11/30/22 vs san jose where auston had a goal and then everyone at the end, including auston, was trying to get mitch the puck so he could extend his point streak with an empty netter. i also think the 02/26/22 vs seattle was fun where the top line of bunts auston and mitch were reunited for a bit and netted a couple goals. you could see how happy they were to be back together for a bit.

ANY game where they've scored a hat trick is fairly impressive and usually has good highlights. i actually just watched mitch's only career hat trick 02/26/22 vs detroit last week which was so much chaos and so much fun... super high scoring. auston hat trick games with lots of mitch assists (not counting the last week) include:

12/01/21 vs colorado

01/31/22 vs new jersey

also it seems that any game in the second half of the 21-22 season is worth watching, just bc auston was chasing so many records, and that top line was dominating the league so hard... happy happy fun times, i need to go watch some of those tbh. i have a feeling 23-24 is gonna top it but KNOCK ON WOOD.

some random oldies i'd look into are 01/01/17 vs detroit which was the centennial classic and both of them scored... 11/18/17 vs montreal.. leafs dominated, one of the first times auston and mitch played together and auston got 2 goals with mitch assists.... 12/23/19 vs carolina... high scoring game and mitch and auston basically save the day. the highlights and cellies are INSANE.

and i'm sure there are lots lots more and there are DEFINITELY more to come. hope this satisfies you or provides you with some stuff to look up!!! happy watching!!! if anyone has anything to add, feel free.

people are saying that about volo huh? man he’s such an experience bc the fundamental rules of the game (or of singles i should say) are messed up there. there’s a lot that’s different in your favor and a lot that’s different in his. the turns system is unique with the strong and agile style thing making it possible to go multiple times in a row (and to get hit multiple times in a row.) the fact that there are no free switches in between your opponent’s pokémon so you can get punished for ohko’ing somebody by having him send out the perfect counter that immediately goes first. the fact that max revives are very easily attainable in this game. the fact that not only is giratina A Thing, but that when playing for the first time *you don’t know about that.* the only way to be truly prepared for giratina is to stall and take the time to heal your team toward the end of volo’s fight which feels kinda cheap. barring that you either have to be very overpowered or very lucky

i struggled when i first played even when using a ton of items and having brought four legendaries (probably bc i was a noob). but on my next replay when i had more experience and a real team i was still fighting for my life, even with items. but i did a no items volo challenge for my most recent run and it was a fresh nightmare that came down to very good luck on my part for the final shot. all three times i remained strictly on level and honestly isn’t the game way more fun that way? i’m also thinking i should go no items or at least limited items from here on out. and a strict level cap

It's mostly YouTube comment bragging I've seen people say that about volo in, but yeah, it's really silly. Couldn't have said it better myself! The way pla is balanced is honestly so cool, and the dread I felt so many times with battling him and he stacked up enough agile and priority moves to get like three turns in a row was painful 😭 not to mention the obscured status! Hoo boy, that REALLY made giratina a pain.

What I find really funny is I beat volo's regular team first try and even when I was liveblogging I mentioned that I was sad it wasn't harder, even if I only had a couple pokemon still standing.

... Then giratina happened 😂 I lost to his first phase sooooo many times on subsequent attempts after that, think I ended up having to swap out my hisuian lilligant for an alpha sylveon and trained that up from scratch just to have a reliable counter for spiritomb.

Anyway yeah, it's soooooo much more fun to stay on level! If I'd just ran in overlevelled there's no way it'd have stayed in my head for as long as it has, it's probably my favourite pokemon moment of all time as it stands. No items is definitely really fun in Pokémon in general, I love having to think hard about team order, items and status moves to give myself the best shot of staying alive 😭 tempted to also try a level cap when I play violet, bc shiny hunting and BBQ grinding made it way too easy to accidentally overlevel (accidentally got my hydrapple to level 100 half way through the epilogue, woops)

If you have access to emulation btw, I'd highly recommend luminescent platinum! Idk if you've heard of it or not but it's a really cool bdsp mod with a few cool story changes, properly scaled pokemon and a massive overhaul to every battle in the game (as well as expanding the dex by A Lot). All bosses have several rotating sets of teams they'll use at random that are fully competitive and there's an option in-game to set hard level caps that increase as the story goes along, and stop you levelling up at all once you reach them. It's really cool! Think I'm up to victory road in that game, should really get back to it haha

You know I’m a Doctor Who fan, and have been for a loooong time, but I am really feeling a side of fandom for the first time.

I mean, I knew it was there. Look at the reaction to the Whittaker era. I was no fan of Chibnall’s writing tastes (good ideas, but….), yet I mostly kept quiet for fear of being lumped in with the ones freaking out only because it didn’t fit the gender and race up they were used to. As someone delighted with the increased diversity with the Doc and friends, but crushingly disappointed by the actual episodes, it was awkward. Like, “Look, I’m not enjoying it but NOT for those reasons” calls for something other than the polar opposition understanding so common online (and the real world?)

Anyway, so it’s a “new” era. Surely it would be safe to wade into fandom opinions again, especially because the RTD/10/Donna era had been so popular. Nostalgia would win out, at the very least for this short little 60th revisiting….

Honestly I mostly try to just block people and stay out of arguments. Arguing with people about fandom issues just makes me have a bad time and I'd rather spend my time online enjoying the things I like instead of getting heated over them. I've been part of tumblr fandom for over 10 years now, so my points of view on fandom drama are much more in line with older fandom.

I don't touch the "proship vs. anti" stuff with a 10 foot pole because I think both sides of the argument have been watered down to mean absolutely nothing. Antis have a different definition of what "proship" means than proshippers have, and proshippers have a different definition of "anti" than antis have. So at this point, to me, it's mostly just an argument about semantics, and that gives me too much of a headache to participate in. I stopped using twitter because of it since tumblr, although still not perfect, is a lot better.

My main point of view on most fandom drama boils down to: I can tell the difference between fiction and reality, but if you are someone who can't distinguish that line then it means you shouldn't participate in fandom for your own safety. At the end of the day, our brains all work differently, and we have no right to police others because of how our own individual thinking works. Block and move on, if you stop having a good time and it begins to effect you irl, maybe fandom isn't a healthy choice for you.

ANYWAY! The game is super fun and I totally recommend it! I'm actually not a fan of video games (normally I just watch lets plays) but I really enjoyed playing through the two chapters that are out so far and I can't wait for more to come out!! Hopefully you get a chance to play it!!
