I have said this before but me being self proclaimed number 1 Ryoma fan and that being possibly literal-bc even if this bro had fans before me I might’ve simply done the most for him by talking about him so much + being the first to write fics that are in depth studies on his trauma across canons-I gotta say if there’s one other character I rotate a lot that isn’t him it’s probably Kei. (Shocking it’s not Hayato even if I do think about him too- but it’s usually associated with Ryoma bc gays 🗿)
I’m not even exaggerating when I say Kei would be my favorite and only isn’t because she doesn’t exist in many other canons yet my brain rotates the endless possibilities of how to incorporate her. I’ve already written a fic where she’s in shin vs neo verse which worked surprisingly well but I’ve been thinking how universally she could appear in other things. (Whether it be fitting her into a idea of a possible Go team in New or just a new canon completely) I think what I’ve narrow it down to is that she could be like- in Michirus role? Like she’s the supporting female who isn’t a pilot but helps out the real occasionally which I think would align very well especially with the original manga role she has of being Hayato’s assistant. And even if Hayato isn’t grandpa mode yet he still very much is in Saotomes position at that point. Not sure if she’d Hayato’s biological kid to further parallel Saotome and Michiru given well Hayato already adopts the Go team and his wife is irrelevant LOL.
I have no idea if I’ll ever write this specific idea but I’m still- rotating it cause this is such a easy way to get around “picking between Sho or Kei as the 2nd pilot” since both of them can still exist even if one doesn’t get to pilot, idm my supporting females. (Granted there could always be like- plot line where Sho gets hurt so Kei is temporary pilot but I can’t remember if Getter ever really did this since “once your hurt your ass is basically replaced” lol)
#meg text#getter robo#au rambles#I think I rotate her so much because my friend and I talked about her relationship with Go#like it makes so much sense if among all the universal constants in getter one would be Kei is important to Go#granted the shift from “she’s my love interest” to “she’s my sister” will never not be so fucking drastic #also I get why in SVN she wasn’t there for time and idk where you’d fit her but man Kei deserves a more significant role#hence why I imagine her in Michirus role because even if she also had it ROUGH some iterations knew how to use her#also Kei already has a established relationship w gai mainly thanks to arma so- Sho deserves to speak with her too#they can be besties who rat out on the boys but still have high respect for hayato#granted I know the real reason why this hasn’t happened is because Kei is a minor character and “no proper go manga adaptation??”#at this point I don’t expect a anime but it be nice if Go team got used in a spin off bc we had a good run of OG team#I’d also want them to use arc in spin offs too but I understand their more- finicky characters to use#given their main thing is their actual descendants of existing characters and one of them is our first boyo (ryoma)#if you took out the bloodline stuff it make them feel redundant because you can just use go team for that#also honestly despite how mixed arc anime is for everyone they really don’t need to be in anything after this#other then wishing they get something with nicer animation but that’s what’s SRW is for#(also back to Kei I’m a bit upset she did not get a cameo in arc even if she’d probably look horrendous it was just salt in the wound)#(GAI LITERALLY SAIDS WHEN HE DIES IN THE MANGA HE SEES KEI WHERE WAS SHE WITH ALL THE GETTER GHOSTS?)#actually Michiru wasn’t there too so it was probably just woman erasure /hj

Long Rant Incoming!
I am honestly just exhausted with how the Sailor Moon fandom so often bashes the original anime, in particular when they do so by presuming bigotry of any kind on the part of the staff members.
Sure, show me a quote or an interview where they definitively say something and I will listen with an open mind.
But why does this fandom presume that, for example, AnimeRei’s interest in men was obviously changed from the MangaRei’s more negative attitude because of sexism?
Or that Usagi being naked in the last episode whilst Mamoru was in his Endymion armour was again rooted in sexism?
Or that old favourite that has now become oh so trendy again thanks to Cosmos, that the Starlights were physically male in the anime (as opposed to simply dressing as men and pretending to be men) because the anime staff were being homophobic. More specifically, that this change was implemented so that the UsagixSeiya relationship was ‘less gay’.
Let’s talk a bit about that shall we?
So....
The original 1992 Sailor Moon anime had two men explicitly in a relationship in season 1, Kunzite and Zoisite.
It had two women explicitly in a relationship in season 3, Haruka and Michiru.
It had a character in season 4 who, to my understanding (please correct me on this as I am not overly knowledgeable on the subject), was trans, Fisheye.
When you go beyond the explicit into merely very obvious subtext, Sailor Moon’s track record for LGBT representation gets even larger. The pair of female animators in episode 21. Fiore and Mamoru’s relationship in the R movie. The fashion designer and his assistant in episode 140. Sailor Lead Crow and Aluminium Siren’s relationship.
Not to mention the UsaRei ship:
Or the MakAmi ship:
It’d be weird for a show with this kind of track record (that was indeed a trailblazer in the context of the time) to suddenly got cold feet over another female-female relationship.
Now there are two counter arguments to this:
a) Most of the above doesn’t apply specifically to Sailor Moon herself, the UsaRei ship being subtextual for this very reason. In other words ‘its okay for side characters’
b) Sailor Stars was under new management. It is entirely possible said new management had very different attitudes towards female-female relationships
Let’s tackle a) first.
It’s okay to portray side characters in same sex relationships
First of all, Usagi was attracted to Haruka in episode 92. Even after she discovered Haruka was (in her eyes at least) a cis woman she still regarded her as attractive and desirable, usually blushing whenever Haruka flirted with her and being all too happy to dance with Haruka in episode 108.
Isn’t it a little weird to argue it would be bad for Usagi to be dating another woman when there wasn’t a world of difference between how Seiya in the manga and Haruka in the anime were framed and presented to the audience.
The main difference was that in the manga Seiya was explicitly pretending to be male and therefore would not have corrected anyone’s presumptions that she was a man, which is exactly what Haruka did at the end of episode 92 when Usagi and Minako discover Haruka is not a cis boy.
Whilst we might argue that the character of MangaSeiya would have presented herself differently had she not needed to disguise herself, from a narrative POV if the anime had stuck with Seiya being biologically female she would have had to maintain that disguise for the overwhelming majority of episodes anyway. In other words, she would have been presenting herself as a cis male the entire time outside of Sailor Senshi fights.
Second of all, the anime was still explicitly shipping Usagi and Seiya even after the big reveal in episode 188 where the Senshi and Starlights discover one another’s identities. In fact, episode 189 has Minako explicitly state that the Starlights are in fact girls:
Now, whilst Minako regards this as a dealbreaker for her own romantic affections for the Three Lights, Usagi is still obviously conflicted about her feelings for Seiya. This culminates in episode 194′s famous “Am I not enough?” scene and their conversation in episode 195 where Usagi lets Seiya down backstage and he kisses her goodbye on her cheek.
Before episode 194 the show was going hard on this ‘star-crossed lovers’ imagery and ideas, with the Starlights and Outer Senshi trying to pull the pair apar. Seiya even communicated to Usagi at night whilst she is in her bedroom , which imo is deliberately evoking Romeo and Juliet. Moreover, the animation frankly framing the pair in a romantic light, with plenty of blushes and soft lighting liberally appearing all over the place.
Sure, on screen you have a biological woman and biological man. But the show has explicitly stated that that Seiya is not a man, or at least from Usagi’s POV that isn’t the case.
Now one could argue that this is nevertheless reductive. After all, you still have a female role assigned and a male role assigned in the relationship. But again...how different is this really from Haruka and Michiru who are present and as explicitly romantic as ever in Sailor Stars?
In terms of ‘presenting’ as male or female Haruka and Seiya are in the same boat 99% of the time (the 1% is for episodes involving bathing outfits or other forms of partial nudity). Most of the time Haruka visually presents as (for its day) typically masculine until she assumes her Senshi form where she presents as more typically (again, for its day) female. The only difference between the two characters is that the viewer intellectually knows that Seiya has a penis that becomes a vagina whereas Haruka always has a vagina. But since in both cases we never see those particular pieces of anatomy it is a moot point.
So the argument that ‘on screen’ Usagi is not being shipped with a woman is irrelevant. To all practical purposes, from a purely visual POV she might as well have been shipped with someone just like Haruka. It didn’t make it ‘more acceptable’ at all. In particular when you consider the show heavily implies that Seiya’s male body was nothing more than a guise assumed on Earth for the sake of their mission. So, had anyone been extrapolating forwards Usagi and Seiya potentially forming a long term relationship, Usagi would have been in a relationship with someone who was biologically female anyway.
Third of all, the ‘side character’ argument falls apart when you consider HOW popular Uranus and Neptune were. In Animage’s 1995 poll episode 110 "Death of Uranus and Neptune!? Talismans Appear" was voted the most popular episode. A major reason why SuperS was so unpopular was because the Outer’s were absent, which is why the very first episode of Sailor Stars practically revolves around them. Hell, exempting Usagi, of all the Solar System Sailor Senshi, Uranus and Neptune are the last ones standing, dying in the third to last episode of the entire show.
This isn’t even mentioning HOW prominent they were in season 3. Like, sure, they weren’t the MAIN characters, but until Hotaru shows up, they were by far and away the most important characters in the show just behind Usagi. Sailor Moon S as a whole is ostensibly one great big ideological debate between Usagi’s idealistic philosophy and Haruka and Michiru’s more hardline realistic philosophy.
To codify them as ‘side characters’ in the context of season 3 is akin to describing Mamoru or Chibi-Usa as side characters in the manga. That is to say, the difference between them and Usagi is a matter of mere degrees. Are we in all seriousness arguing that those degrees make the difference between how okay it is to present characters as part of female-female relationships? That’s rather ridiculous isn’t it?
Let’s move on to point b).
The new management didn’t like same-sex relationships
Yes. It is entirely possible that the new management had very different attitudes towards female-female relationships than the people in charge of the prior four seasons of the show. Thus the representation present in the prior four seasons doesn’t excuse season 5 of being homophobic in its decision to make the Starlights biologically male.
You know what else is entirely possible? That there were any number of other reasons for that decision apart from homophobia.
Again, I’m willing to listen with an open mind to anyone that has a statement or an interview or something like that from production staff members that might support the above interpretation. But in over ten years of being a Sailor Moon fan I have yet to see anything that implies this rather damning motivation on the part of the production staff. At which point why is anyone at all just presuming the worst faith interpretation?
Here are some good faith interpretations for why the Starlights were biologically male:
- Making them biologically male could raise a bit of intrigue on the part of the viewers. Even if they figured magic was the reason how they could change from male to female, they’d still be enticed to watch to see the process in action. Which would be even more intriguing compared to four seasons of transformation sequences where girls simply put on new Senshi outfits.
- Making them male made it easier for writers to generate the show’s all important filler episodes and opened up more storytelling opportunities.
If the Starlights are biologically female it would mean either scrapping episodes or scenes where the Starlights are involved in partial nudity. Case in point, episode 178 where Luna is revealed to have taken a bath with Yaten, episode 183 where the gang vacation at a lake and are in their bathing suits, episode 184 where the gang see Seiya getting out of the shower, or even episode 176 where the Starlights are in dance outfits which naturally are tight fitting and therefore do not leave much to the imagination.
Perhaps these instances could have still happened with the Starlights as biological females, but it would have been trickier and required a lot more strategic thinking on the part of the overworked writers who were on a deadline. Making them male frankly just made their lives easier
- The anime staff might have simply believed that the idea of three women disguising themselves as men and maintaining such a secret amidst becoming super star idols, attending high school, etc was simply unconvincing, too big of a suspension of disbelief.
- Making them biologically male might have been a ‘creative flex’. What do I mean by this? Simply put it is not at all uncommon for people adapting a piece of media to throw something in of their own invention.
This might happen out of boredom on the part of the people adapting the source material (it can potentially be dull merely replicating something) or it could occur due to ego (see the majority of modern MCU films and TV shows that change no end of things from the comic books).
Ego, unfortunately is all too common amongst creative people, especially those who have made it professionally into the entertainment industry. There is a desire by many to put their stamp on a work, even if it is not a work of their own creation per se.
This may well be the root of several other changes between the manga and the anime too, regardless of whether those changes have anything to do with gender, sexuality, female representation of other such issues.
- Making them biologically males who transform into biological females, in the eyes of the production staff, might have been more avant garde and progressive towards the LGBT community as it rendered the characters as arguably trans or gender fluid characters.
- And finally...it may well have just been a mistake. The manga and anime were produced simultaneously but also at very different paces, the manga releasing monthly vs the anime’s weekly schedule.
Between Takeuchi’s busy production schedule, not to mention however else she was involved in the (by then massive) Sailor Moon brand, it is entirely possible that she either hadn’t decided upon, or simply miscommunicated her ideas for the Starlights, thus resulting in the anime staff misunderstanding her intentions or extrapolating them to be biological men in their civilian forms.
Indeed, Takeuchi herself misunderstood the Starlights in the anime as she apparently missed the dialogue that implied they were biological females who used magic to become biological males for their mission on Earth. She instead got upset that they were men who were Sailor Senshi.
Now, I came up with the above off the top of my head and don’t have any hard evidence in support of any of it. Which means they all carry just as much weight as the ‘obviously it was bigotry’ interpretation.
And, once again, I have to bring up the fact that Sailor Stars features Uranus and Neptune in a relationship and arguably even ramps up their flirtations compared to season 3. So, kinda weird that they’d include one female-female relationship in season 5 but would be apprehensive over another one.
In conclusion
Can we as a fandom please just fucking STOP automatically presuming the worst of the original anime and its production staff?
Seriously, its really, really, really, really WEIRD!
More than weird though, it is simply unfair.
It is unjust.
It is hateful, even.
Which is particularly ironic since this is a franchise literally built around a character who stands for...well...you know...

Tadaima, Okaeri Ep 9 Stray Thoughts
Last week, Hikari faced his fear of dogs after getting encouragement from both of his dads because he wanted to befriend the neighbor dog. Masaki and Hiromu went back to see Masaki's uncle, because healing is a process, and Hiromu and the Kazuhiko came to an understanding: Hiromu and Masaki have been through a lot, but they just want to build a peaceful space for their family.
Oh my god we're bridging from Hikari's love of tomatoes with the new kid's hair.
"She was born before yesterday." Well he's not wrong.
I was wondering when we'd deal with an omega child. I wasn't certain if they'd do that with Hinata.
It's a bit fast to be letting a new neighbor babysit, no? Even if he reminds you of your wife?
Wow, look at my gay dads being real with each other about the situation with the neighbor rather than lying and playing games. I love these men so much.
I totally get Masaki wanting to provide a space for a kid who maybe experienced some of what he felt.
I like the way the show is playing with perspective to make Michiru look especially small when he was scared and missing his dad.
This moment also feels earned from the previous work about Hikari trying to be a grown up. It's actually a really sad story inside of this adorable show about grief and loss.
Hikari breaking that moment with the comment about snacks was beautiful.
I was hoping we'd get to see Yuki today.
I am dying laughing at these twins showing up and scaring the shit out of these poor kids.
I am still so in love with Hiromu and Masaki. I really love that Hiromu was able to ask about his concerns and be a little bit jealous. It's also funnier because Hiromu gets more jealous of Hikari's friends. I really love them creating a space in their home for the kind of world they'd like to live in. I actually couldn't take many notes because I was so focused on the episode itself.

All stars movie idea:
Big gathering of precure, big enemy. Enemy turns all the cures that were reformed villains or brainwashed back into those villains, or if the cure had defeated dark cures or dark cure equivalents, it turns them into them. A whole lot of cures are now in enemy mode and now the rest of the cures gotta deal.
Which leaves a stunning total of three teams unaffected (Grace went down bc Dariuzen was reformed- "he always was a parasite", and Dokidoki have to deal with Regina. Heartcatch aren't in mirage forms, but Dark Precure is back and that's their problem): Maho girls, Tropical Rouge, and Star Twinkle.
Maho is on damage control. La Mer is busy kicking ass, and Summer is trying to melt two frozen hearts and one angry dessert lion, and the other three are just as busy.
And the Star Twinkle girls come up with an terrible idea. As Cosmo wasn't transformed as she was never really a bad guy, they come up with the idea of making a fake villian cure in order to sneak into the villian's base and try and rescue some of the other transformed cures. With the help of Aiwan, and the reappearance of Bakenyan, Madoka becomes Luness, a moon princess with the power to turn people to stone. Ofc no-one can refute what she's saying, and they manage to hold the bit long enough to retrieve some of the cures, like Grace and Amour.
Other snippets:
Twilight back on her "You're not a princess," bullshit, and promptly getting her ass kicked by three princesses (Muse, Princess, and Majesty), before getting fish-slapped by future Queen mermaid Laura La Mer who is annoyed that Twilight is tormenting Cure Mermaid. (Twilight makes a comment about Laura not being a proper princess or queen too.)
Unlovely is back and is causing havoc, along with dark Cure Tender and Queen Mirage.
Michiru and Kaoru are back and bad
Preme is also back but doesn't seem to be inclined to fight
Heart, Peach, and Prism take their reverted Cures on one-on-one because they know they can get through to them.
Milky Rose actually gets to fight the yes5 dark cures in her cure form. She defeats dark Dream easily, but wavers at Dark Aqua
Berry and Sword vs Aqua and Beauty
"Hooray hooray everyone!", Some random dark cure: "thank you!" :) Yell: "I'm not cheering you on!"
Cure Chocolate nearly gets taken out by weird chocolate kingdom Coco
Marine loses rock-paper-scissors-water to Bad End Peace. Gets zapped.
Black and White have had their hearts frozen again, and this time their sights are set on the rest of the precure. Who don't realise what happened at first. Heartcatch and Healin Good find out what's going on.
A whole lot of team ups, working out who they need to get through to, and who they can just fight
Need Gelato and Amour to help get through to Siren (music)
Fortune flips Eas' fortune telling bit on her by telling her fortune instead.
Prism kinda realises that dark Cure Sky is kinda harmless, so long as no-one is trying to hurt her.
Michiru and Kaoru probably cause the biggest end game sort of problems out of all of them (them and Black and White), and everyone needs to pitch in to fight them at the end, and get through to the real enemy, some reformed form of darkness
Power of friendship, true hearts and precure to save the world
Preme doesn't really do anything but points out to the bbeg that this is kinda what the precure do, so there wasn't ever any point in fighting in the first place

steeples my hands. hello all. i'm thinking about asunaro's perception of maple again
...& it's honestly a bit funny how hiyori's supremely fucked up the majority of his relationships with the other asu-agents simply through his manipulation of maple - especially as, within asunaro, artificial intelligence is commonly seen as a reflection of humanity, if not human in their own right (which they try to prove through the death game)
{ MEISTER }
LISTEN... mr. chidouin's generally shown to be very loving and affectionate (arguably overly so) with sara (and even kai!), i cannot believe he doesn't feel similarly with mrs. chidouin. whatever issues they share, i'm firmly of the belief that he insists on the idea he's doing the best for his family because he so openly and genuinely loves them and wishes for their success, or to otherwise mean something in the grand scheme of asunaro. seeing one's love be programmed in and repeatedly manipulated/discarded like this, beyond that of its intended gimmick, is an immensely uncomfortable situation. don't get me wrong, mr. chidouin has indubitably manipulated kai and imposes on sara. however, he imagines for kai that it is worth the harm because it's cultivated a better life for him on the whole. he's groomed them into these set roles out of care, with the thought they have the strength to carry these mantles in this recreation of the hades incident - but hiyori does not care for maple's place in the death game. the only reason hiyori interacts with maple at all, this outdated iteration of dolls, is due to his own fear. mr. chidouin cannot sympathize with this. he had accepted kai into the family fully-aware of the fact that if kai discovered his true identity, he would surely resent or kill him - he's an assassin still! - but he was more than willing to put his life on the line if it meant he could provide a better ending for the satous who had survived the assassin's trial... and, eventually, he wanted to know kai on a much more personal level. kai, like maple, was built for the ultimatum - but kai was granted love where maple was continuously denied it. what love she held was utilized as a barrier rather than an emotion worth actually fostering. there would be no betrayal in 'crossing that line' of killing hiyori, nothing in it to make it a fault of hers. unlike mr. chidouin's peace with the knowledge his leverage over kai is fragile, hiyori would die an uneventful death at maple's hand if she finally wrangled free of his control. there is nothing honorable in that, and his selfishness brings only disgrace to the ultimatum.
{ EMIRI HARAI }
seeing how easily someone's emotions can be toyed with on a surface level, enough so to dissuade their original personality, does not inspire confidence, to say the least! & definitely not after being faced with grieving her lover. if she did join asunaro in the hopes of reviving him, the sight of this completely destroys that hope; she bears firsthand the proof that love is only something to be manipulated by those in power in asunaro. she doesn't even have the work she was once so proud of - what she has left of herself are... these scattered pieces that were incompatible when moving from civilian life into asunaro's clutches. where, if you peer too close, you'd inevitably find a weakness; which is implied to be the cause of this persona of hers. never allowing anyone near enough to recognize what lays beneath, otherwise she'll be discarded just the same because... she, like mr. chidouin, did have a loving relationship. and seeing the destruction of her own reflected in another innocent person who is unable/unaware of the utter grasp asunaro has on her is repulsive; regardless of her personal beliefs on whether or not AIs are "human enough" - to program one is to put in faith that they are. to then go so far as to rid the choices crucial to being human... hits a bit too close to home, aha.
{ MICHIRU NAMIDA }
as one who is evidently very firm in her belief that her creations are perfect & that AIs are practically interchangeable with humans, i'm sure her opinions on hiyori's treatment of maple are. less than ideal for Workplace Civilty. to say nothing of the implied idea that they work closely together with AI development (hiyori specifically crediting any of ranger's success to michiru's ability alone) and thus michiru has had personal contact with maple to see the effects of hiyori's treatment... michiru's already spent much of her life feeling suppressed. asunaro recognized she was unable to fully flourish in her previous workplace and offered her a place where she could do away with ethics in the chase of something larger than her, in the name of humanity - but seeing what hiyori's imposed upon maple just drags back all of those unwelcome feelings. it's horrifying - though she knows she can't speak on it because she doesn't have seniority on the maple project, nor does she have a place on floors four/five where this gimmick would take place. the most she can do in the meanwhile is comfort maple. indulge that humanity where hiyori refutes it. but even if she comforts maple, she cannot remove that tie to hiyori keeping her subdued. she feels terribly complicit. michiru particularly loves the AI creations because they resemble the best of humanity in her eyes; for hiyori to discard maple like this begs the question of his dedication to asunaro's projects at all, not to mention it seems needlessly cruel. he's neglecting her without even taking interest in the pain she endures at his behest - there's hardly any reason. and that's the worst of it. michiru, as most asunaro does, believes in the idea of 'the ends must justify the means' -- and in maple's case, hiyori lacks that vital rule.
{ GASHU SATOU }
it's... complicated. gashu resents the hiyoris on the idea that their methodology is reprehensible, having been victim to it himself, and yet recognizes the necessity of having a department of asunaro dedicated to extortion to keep public relations stable. of course, this means their pride is unfortunately not without basis. for their work, they are rewarded, and maple is the piteous pinnacle of that. gashu has created ranger in the hopes of replicating the children he wished to save, whereas maple's creation has no such purpose beyond the implied "let's see how incorporating emotions will work for future artificial intelligence" - a stepping stone in something larger, rather than a project in its own right. but while she could've been laid to rest once their technology moved forward, sou hiyori had the power to deny her that. he forces a role upon her for the death game without accepting the burden that entails - it's irresponsible and a clear indication of his assumption that the world must fall in line with his every whim. hiyori demands maple accept her fate in the ultimatum so he needn't accept his own death; never need experience that utter lack of control he exercises freely over others. to gashu, hiyori does present the worst vices of his family. he almost pities him. almost.
{ RIO RANGER }
ranger and maple have fought over their respective favored person. i know this to be true. maple points out that gashu's intentions aren't entirely in rio's favor, instead the shadows lingering in his creation. maple recognizes the emotional weight behind some of the things he says to ranger where rio is quite literally unable to comprehend them. she will critique gashu's desire to constantly have rio 'prove' himself to his creator (...even as she attempts to 'prove' herself to hiyori, it's easier to recognize in another) -- meanwhile, rio gets annoyed with maple and how content she appears with her current programming, with letting hiyori crush her personality in favor of giving her something tantalizingly out of reach: a new feeling. the dolls endure a monochrome world unless they have something to incite those feelings. maple is more fortunate than ranger in this sense, but is still left with the high that only hiyori can grant her. ...and rio gets angry. it's aggravation on her behalf, but he doesn't have the capacity to understand that, instead blaming it on the idea she's incompetent and far too reliant on humanity. but even if he doesn't share the appeal of humanity, he doesn't only use that as a point in their arguments - rather demanding to know that if that's what she wants, then why the fuck are you letting that asshole stifle who you are? letting him control your every move? but of course, sometimes after an argument with maple, he's left irritated with hiyori. even if he can't recognize why, the reality of the matter is that maple wasn't the true source of his anger. hiyori also shares a fascination with humanity which ranger feels he's infected maple with, to flaunt the unachievable to her as justification for why she'll never be enough for him. ranger initiates these loaded conversations to try to get maple to learn to fight back for herself instead of his sake. and sure, rio doesn't fight gashu, but that's out of respect. instead, maple's become so... blasé about her treatment, and is far too hopeful that there's anything she can do to have hiyori's eyes on her alone. maple's already proven herself to ranger and earned some semblance of respect (in physical capability + rio's... somewhat envious of her larger range of emotion, though he mostly mirrors the curiosity he knows michiru & gashu use when he asks). but, to rio, she'll never be 'enough' to anyone if she's not allowed to accept that she's a doll who is capable of so much more than he's limited her program to; she doesn't have to remain stagnant and subservient to be something worthwhile. rio's changed, and his father still praises him. if hiyori's worth half the shit he spits, he'll do the same for her. the majority of this is speculation, admittedly. but i like to think rio's always felt defensive over the dolls; it's just that the ways he does are. difficult to recognize. with the limiter on his emotions. there's an inherent understanding there.
#i'm sorry for the long ass post i just really like the asunaro cast. did you know :'] <3#hough. i tried my damndest to keep hc out of this (except ranger & maple. bc that imagined dynamic Kills me) but i'm sure it bleeds in a bi#enjoy...! i hope. i like talking abt them aegehehe#jestersvaguely#yttdposting#yttd meta

"What did Yachiyo think of Fumi leaving Siegfeld?"
I imagine that Yachiyo predicted that Fumi would leave Siegfeld, or, at the very least, thought it was obvious in hindsight. Yachiyo is an especially observant person and probably saw Fumi's downward spiral; from these she easily figured out it had something to do with Shiori. Yachiyo likely thought it wasn't her place to intervene or simply did not know how, because she was still somewhat emotionally detached from people back then.
Emotionally speaking, it probably went something like "whoa, things got that bad for her in the end, huh? Hope she'll be okay." As a stage girl, Yachiyo had no stake in Fumi (the same way Shiori or Akira would have stake in Fumi) because Yachiyo was still trying to discover herself and what she wanted, but she definitely thought of Fumi as someone uniquely worth respecting and admiring. And when Shiori came along, Yachiyo probably figured, "Fumi-san must weigh a lot on her mind, I should watch over her in her sister's place."
Of the Edels, Yachiyo is the most supportive of Fumi's new life at Rinmeikan (Michiru is probably second). She wasn't the least bit upset that Fumi left, she was just worried for her, and seeing her happy and pursuing her passion once again is all Yachiyo needs to be content. Whereas others from Siegfeld have had more complicated feelings about Fumi, Yachiyo is entirely happy to watch and see how Fumi's changed for the better.

Thought about how given I’ve written so much for getter and rotate enough in my brain I could make hypothetical “how to write this characters” post if those even exists until I remember the factors of:
<the status of the tags doesn’t warrant a lot of writers as is and the only person to ask me this was a irl <I don’t wanna be gatekeepy even if I wouldn’t put my bias into it <who the fuck would it really be about besides ryoma and maybe hayato bc honest to god just grasping the team dynamic of the getter will make you be able to understand each individual pilot <I doubt myself I even write 100% in character despite what I’m told 💀
#meg text#getter robo#fanfic rambles#this came about because I’m so particularly picky about how ryoma is portrayed and while I haven’t seen many awful interpretations#my brain loves to imagine scenarios where someone writes him quirky and I feel myself die inside#for awhile I hated how SRW wrote him but on reflection he’s good! just armas plot never being adapted is a off put#like it’s nice they show him not being just a angry dude because they be more flanderize but it’s weird that it’s ARMA#(even if yeah he has more then four friends this time but it’s still weird)#as for hayato i remembered I thought I had no grasp of his character until I realized “wait I write him not repressing”#*pokes mr Jin with a stick* if canon won’t explore all your emotions I WILL#but these two fucks aside while everyone has their own depth yeah its- just a matter of team dynamics#like obvs go and arc team aren’t copy n paste of OG but they fall under similar traits and intended parallels#the only character I remember I struggled to write for a bit was arma!go but the key thing is to make him not speak a lot#which depending on your story it’s nice to have a weird quiet dude in the flow of a giant conversation 💀#but for characters like- Michiru who isn’t new?? Go crazy#flesh her out however the fuck

comforting his s/o during their period hcs ; shirou ogami
requested by ; anonymous (25/01/24)
fandom(s) ; brand new animal
fandom masterlist(s) ; here
character(s) ; shirou ogami
outline ; “Hii! Figured id send in a quick request since the bna fandom is dead asf. anyway can I ask for shirou ogami x fem! Reader, period comfort? I didn't see anything in ur rules about period stuff but if your not comfortable with it can you just do sick? Tyty!! (Sorry so long)”
note ; this isn’t 100% comfort based and focuses mainly on shirou trying to help his partner cope with their period but there is a good bit of fluff in there so hopefully this fits the quota haha ^^ — i also tried to keep this as gender neutral as possible but please let me know if there are any bits that aren’t quite up-to-par with that
warning(s) ; general period related discomfort, but mostly fluff!
the longer you two are an item, the better shirou gets at predicting and anticipating your menstrual cycle (or, if you’re more irregular, at noticing symptoms and behaviours that indicate that you’re going to start your period soon)
whilst he is kept extremely busy by his work and can’t always be by your side to take care of you in as hands-on a way as he might prefer, he does make sure that you always have what you need — and that includes practical things (like pads/tampons/cups/period pants or whatever else you use) as well as your usual comfort foods and cravings (e.g. keeping the fridge and cupboards filled with as much sweet/sour/savoury/craving food you could possibly need)
in the mornings, before he leaves and right as you’re starting to wake up, he makes sure to prepare a hot water bottle for you to help with any cramps — and he also always makes sure that you’re stocked up on any medications you need (be that for pain, nausea, or other symptoms or conditions that are exacerbated by your cycle)
tries to answer any texts/calls from you as soon as possible just in case you need something from him — even if it’s something as small as picking up your favourite takeout food on his way home — and is always apologetic if he misses something or forgets to respond for one reason or another
has never, and will never, get annoyed at you if you bleed out onto the bed or get any blood on his clothes — he just shushes you, tells you to get up and have a shower or something, and then goes and puts everything in the washer
bit of an aside, but he’s absolutely the type of boyfriend to put his coat over you to hide any stains on the back of whatever you’re wearing (be that a skirt, shorts, pants, or a dress) if you start your period unexpectedly or leak out of whatever you’re using to catch it — doesn’t even bat an eye but will let you know what’s happened so you can go and sort yourself out with a change of clothes when you get home
becomes a bit more protective over you during this time but he doesn’t quite realise that he’s doing it — it’s down to instinct more than a conscious decision, that desire to covet and care for you as his mate, but it’s still very sweet to witness
he’s a bit of a mother hen when it comes to your health in general, particularly when it comes to illnesses and other such conditions since it’s been so long since he’s gotten sick at all, and with your period that side of him gets turned to 11 — he goes so far as to ask the women in his life (melissa if you’re a beastman and michiru if you’re human) for advice to help you deal with your periods since, evidently, that’s not something he’s ever had to worry about until now
(he would ask you but he’d rather just make things easier for you without putting you in that awkward spot so early on in your relationship — that conversation come later, though)
(thankfully they’re both very patient and understanding when he seeks them out, but michiru will absolutely use that interaction in the future to prove how good of a friend she is to him)
if you’re trans masc and having a period contributes to any feelings of dysphoria then shirou is going to do his best to try and help you through it — whether that means altering his language, not making a big fuss about your cycle, or anything else that you ask of him he’s happy to do it so long as you make it clear to him (he’s no mind reader, after all, and only wants to help out)

Some other people found out from the teaser that Saki has a ring on one of her fingers, likely a wedding one. It doesn't seem like any of the other girls have rings, so she might be the only one in this sequel that is married, initially at least.
My hope is that she's married to Mai, or Michiru, I'm not picky, but it's most likely to a man.
Off the top of my head, there are two possibilities from the original Splash Star. The first is Mai's older brother, Kazuya, who Saki is very clearly crushing on throughout the season, but it seemed more like an unrequited love a young girl might have for an older boy the same way in Cardcaptor Sakura where Sakura has a crush on Yukito.
The other option is Kenta, the boy that Saki occasionally banters with, and he also seems to crush on her a few times early on, but as the season progressed, their "romance" didn't really develop, like Saki never really saw him as anything more than a friend. I wouldn't be that opposed to him being her husband, since he's not bad compared to some of the other guy love interests in this franchise later on.
They could also just make up a man for Saki to be married too, and it's not like that's unrealistic, you don't always end up marrying your childhood friends/first love. In my opinion, that would feel a bit odd, because OtonaPre has about a 10-20 year timeskip from when we last saw these women, so to start off with Saki married to someone we know basically nothing about, feels a bit cheap, unless there is enough backstory to make it work. Even so, it's still up in the air how many episodes OtonaPre has, so I'm not sure they'd want to spend too much time laying the groundwork for that potential new character.
Moving onto Mai, it would be really sad if Saki was the only one of the two who got married. Like, for better or worse, in Splash Star, Saki is shown to be crushing on guys, while Mai didn't get as much development regarding romance, other than acting like a third wheel for Saki's endeavors. I don't recall Mai ever falling in love with a guy, in fact, you could say she was in love with Saki instead.
Similarly, in the original Futari wa, Nagisa was the one who got most of the romantic development. Hell, in Max Heart, Honoka barely got episodes focused on her while Nagisa had several where she tried to vie for Fuji-P. Should they be in OtonaPre, and although I don't want it to happen, Nagisa would probably end up with Fuji-P. It would be such a shame, because one of her traits in the original anime is that she's popular with the girls, even getting love letters from them. She exclaims how she'd rather be popular with the boys than girls, but in a later episode, she says that if Honoka was a boy, she'd be in love with her, which I think does a good job at hinting towards her closeted feelings. I really detest the trope where romance between girls is seen as a thing to "grow out of," like it's just a schoolgirl fad.
Regarding Honoka, they don't really give her much in hetero romance. There are like, three guys that I can think of that only maybe could be paired with her, barring another new man they invent. The first is Fuji-P's friend/teammate, Kimata, but he barely interacts with Honoka at all, and I would hate that, because it would feel like a "consolation prize" if Nagisa ended up with Fuji-P. The second is Kiriya, the former Dotsuku Zone denizen who infiltrated their school to try and defeat them, only to end up developing a strong bond with the sisterly Honoka, but I never really saw this as a budding romance, especially on Honoka's end. Plus, Kiriya basically dipped by the end of the original Futari wa, and didn't even show up in Max Heart, so it would just feel like an afterthought if they paired them together with that missing development. The third option is Nagisa's younger brother, Ryouta, who has a crush on Honoka, but, lmao, that's really just played as a joke.
In fact, I think the anime actually portrays Honoka as being mostly uninterested in boys, despite being popular with them. She rejects all of their advances, says that if she were to go out with a boy, there'd need to be mutual respect, which implies that she doesn't feel respected by them and thus doesn't even consider them. There's also the fact that she admires Nagisa's popularity with the girls, which I feel hints at something a bit more about her romantic desires. I could go on here, but I hope this gets my point across.
To sum it up, Saki ending up with a family while Mai doesn't would create such a disappointing incongruity for these two women who were very intertwined in the anime we watched them in. The same is true of Nagisa and Honoka should they also appear. I would rather none of them end up with any romantic conclusion (thus leaving it up to interpretation) whatsoever than only some of them having it.

Read a post the other day that was pretty standard and not at all unreasonable writing advice, talking about what they called "positive and negative trait pairs" which is not what I would have called it but more on that later.
Anyhow, they had a list of trait pairs, things like loyalty-blind obedience, bravery--recklessness and I didn't think anything of it. Then I saw it reblogged with like...a rebuttal? Saying that those things were cliche/tropey. And they like to mix it up a bit and they fucked around with the list and showed I guess how fun they are or whatever.
Don't misunderstand me, I think a character with paired intelligence--recklessness is a cool idea! I think that can be a really fun thing. Or empathy--impulsivity. Honestly I could just argue that both of these are Lena.
But the mistake is, what those pairs in the ORIGINAL list are, are not, "Ways to come up with a guy" and for that reason I would not have called them 'positive-negative trait pairs"
What they are, is a way to ensure your characters have TEXTURE, by showing you the natural outgrowth of a positive trait, into a negative one. I think this is a REALLY important thing for people to think about, when they are thinking about fleshing out a character into a fully fledged human being.
So i genuinely had to do this with Angela, who was at some risk of becoming Saint Ange, which is never a thing I want to do with a character. I don't like Saints, they aren't real. So Angela is compassionate and generous, with a deep sense of empathy. She's a genius and has been since she was a child. Great, all wonderful traits, with the capacity to do amazing things.
Let's pull those out all the way, in order to give her flaws. So she's compassionate, she wants to help always. Let's have her be a touch fucking naive, easily taken in my people's shows of remorse, because she so deeply believes in the ability of people to change and do better. Her generosity of spirit means she lacks boundaries, she will run herself ragged and then it becomes other people's problems to help her when she neglects herself and breaks down because SHE won't say no, won't say she has to rest. She becomes a burden by virtue of wanting to be all things to all people. Her deep empathy means she is overwhelmed by the enormity of suffering. Her genius has been what people prized her for her entire life, and what if she is constantly trying to live up to that standard? What if all this combines to make her into a disaster who can barely take care of herself if there's not an immediate crisis on, THUS making her a problem to be babysat by the people who love her?
TA DAH YOU HAVE A FULLY REALIZED HUMAN BEING. I could do this with every character I've written with any depth: Michiru is so high born as to be unreachable, unable to reach down. Lena is so very brave, and so very funny, and so impulsive and unserious. Minako is charisma defined, a born strategist, but even she's not sure where the manipulation stops and the person begins. Fareeha is disciplined and principled, and finds that stone sometimes sinks in a storm.
This is true of human people! It's true of me, it's probably true of you.
But anyway, it was so frustrating to me on everyone's side, because it's so important to THINK about the traits you give a character and how they can be bent to the good or the ill. That's not CLICHE, that's NATURAL PROGRESSION.

Idk if you ever made an AU about it, but how do you picture Haruka and Michiru's families? There's no canon info about them, just love seeing Sailor Moon family headcanons :)
I would love to know more about their families too, tho for now all my hcs are based on mah brain and some other people's hcs I borrowed a bit from (I'll give it back! hehehe).
Alright, I see Michiru's family as being a vast network of wealth and success. Not joking they'd be like the modern day Rockefellers, both in influence and wealth.
Michiru was born as one of 5 kids to Mr and Ms Kaioh, her being about the second eldest. She grew up surrounded by luxuries and privileges, but also haunted by the need to achieve perfection. She always strove to excel past excellence, both for her parents, but also for herself, thinking receiving such achievements would bring about some happiness her way, but almost none followed.
It all felt so empty, her trophies, their compliments, their smiles, their souls. The more she achieved, the less human she felt, almost like an object to be paraded around for everyone to admire.
She doesn't hate her parent and siblings, but she fairs taking a step back and focus on her own life was the right choice. She still visits them occasionally.
Haruka was almost the total opposite. As Michiru's family would be considered the perfect nuclear family by most, Haruka's is the definition of dysfunctional.
She grew up in utter poverty, with a struggling alcoholic mother and no real father. Her mother was a constant switch between an incredibly loving and sweet mother to an uncaring shell of a woman. Haruka loved her and she still does, being almost blind to her mother's faults, remembering mostly the good times. She also would see on occasions her grandmother. She was a sweet and caring old woman. She was incredibly disappointed to see how her daughter's life turned out and angry at her for dragging Haruka into it.
She passed away when Haruka was kid. Her mother was later killed by a drunk driver when Haruka was late in her teens. (My hc Haruka na Michiru are around their early to mid twenties.
THESE COULD BE SUBJECT TO CHANGE. NOT WRITTEN IN STONE.
