Event Info

WHUMPTOBER is a month-long, prompt-based creation challenge (think: Inktober, but whumpier). There are 31 Official themes this year - one for each day of the month - which can be used, skipped, or combined in any way you’d like. They are meant to serve as inspiration without being taken literally (e.g. you don't have to include the exact wording into your work). Additionally, there are 3 prompts for each theme. These are optional suggestions and can be used in conjunction with the theme, or as options/alternatives. We want to give everyone as much creative freedom as possible, as well as increase event accessibility for folks with triggers and squicks.

Creators can PRODUCE work in any media they choose, including but not limited to: writing, visual artwork, and photo/video/audio edits. Creators can PARTICIPATE as much or as little as they want (i.e. you don’t have to do ALL the prompts if you don’t want to) and prompts can be used in any order. They are also free to use even after the event ends.

When uploading Whumptober content to your blog, be sure to tag the with:

Unfortunately, due to the sheer number of participants in recent years, we cannot guarantee your work will be archived. A random selection of properly tagged posts from all genres will be reblogged each day.

Whumpers who produce content for 31 total theme days are considered event completionists and will be tagged in a masterpost at the end of the month.

Q. What kind of content can I make? Can it be NSFW?

This is a MIXED MEDIA event! You can write fic, post meta, doodle or paint, create a gif set or photo edit, link a song, or get crafty with video - anything goes. As for NSFW, make what you like, we just hope that you’ll tag your work accordingly so that others participating in the event can stay safe :)

Q. Do I have to do all 31 Days? Can I post early/late?

Participate as much or little as you like, and post whenever! Just be sure to tag your posts properly (ex. #no.11, #psych101). Combining prompts into one piece of work is okay, and posting late is as well so as long as it’s in October.

Q. What if I don’t understand a theme?

Send us an ask! We’re happy to help clarify. That said, the themes are entirely up for interpretation :)

Q. Can I combine Whumptober with other creation challenges?

Absolutely! That’s like shooting two whumpees with one bullet :)

Q. Can I upload/repost my whumptober content to other social media platforms?

Of course! We’ve created an AO3 Collection to archive any fics posted there. The archive can be accessed here. The blog is the official archive, so please respect the boundaries of any closeted whumpers in your social circle :)

Q. Can I use prompts to write a new chapter for an existing fic?

Yes

Q. An existing fic I am currently writing contains many of the Whumptober prompts, can I use it?

If you are actively writing this fic at the moment with the whumptober prompts in mind, yes. If it just conveniently checks the boxes, then please don’t. You can, however, add new chapters answering one or more of the prompts.

Q. What kind of characters can I write for?

Fandom characters, OC characters, human, furry, alien, cyborg, whoever you like.

Q. Can I use a prompt multiple times?

Yes, but it only counts once

Q. If I’m not comfortable with one day's prompts can I use a prompt of a different day as a substitute and still be a completionist?

Yes, but please do not use a specific prompt twice. We have also created an alternate prompts list that you can draw from [here].

Q. Where can I post my work?

Post where and how you want. You don’t even have to (cross)post it to Tumblr. Just keep in mind if it’s not on Tumblr we will not be able to add it to the blog archive.

Q. Can I start posting early?

You can, but this is an October event and wouldn’t it be more fun with everyone doing it at the same time? That being said, you can post early, but we won’t be reblogging any work predating October 1st.

Q. Do I have to finish a fic I started/can I post WIP’s.?

Yes you can post WIPs. And you’re not obligated to finish it in October for it to count towards being a completionist.

Q. Is co-writing allowed?

Yes, absolutely, and it would count towards being a completionist for both/all of you :)

Q. Do I have to create 31 standalone pieces to be considered a completionist or can I write one continuous story?

One continuous story is fine. The challenge is to write something for 31 prompts. If that’s spread over 31 fics or just one, you are still considered a completionist. (The same goes for every other media you choose.)

Q. Is there a min/max limit on word count?

There is no limit

Q. Can I combine prompts? Is there a limit on how many?

No limit and combine as many as you’d like.

Q. My interpretation of the prompt isn't whumpy at all, does that count?

No, sorry, but keep in mind that whump [see definition] is something very nuanced and different for everyone and emotional whump/angst is just as much part of it, as is physical whump and torture. So before you dismiss your idea, think about this.

Q. Can I start working on the prompts before October?

Absolutely! That’s why we posted the prompts a month in advance. We recognise how difficult it can be creating for 31 days in “real time”.

Yes, if you want your work archived on the blog. If not, feel free to use whatever tags you want.

This time I’m doing these questions!

Inspiration and Reading Questions:

1. How long ago did you start reading fanfiction? Writing fanfiction?

Reading: I’m not sure. Maybe 2011/2012

Writing: 2013

2. How do you spend your time when it comes to fanfiction? Are you primarily fic reader, writer, or a perfect 50/50 split of both?

It’s definitely both, but I wouldn’t call it a perfect 50/50 split. It varies. Sometimes I read more, but write less or vice versa.

3. Are there any fics that inspired you to write what you do.

Not really. I usually just write fics for whatever I want to.

4. Link your three favorite fics right now.

5. What are your fanfic pet peeves? Do they have a huge effect on whether or not you decide to read something.

I have a love-hate relationship with slow burn fics. Like I love them because give me the pining, give me the obliviousness, give me the amazing, sweeping first kiss, give me the angst, just give me all the delicious development that comes with finding common ground and falling in love. That being said, however, and I realize that I’m in the minority here, the hate part comes in when the story is really long, let’s 50+ chapters, and the story gets to chapter 50, but the romance still hasn’t started coming into play and I’m starting to just get sick of it because nothing has progressed to romance. Like there gets to be a time where too much is too much and usually, when that happens, it’s time for me to say adios! to the story.

6. How do you find new fic to read? Where do you primarily read fanfiction.

I primarily read fics on Ao3. I loathe FFN.net with every fiber of my being.

I usually just leave the Enjolras/Grantaire category open on and refresh it like three to four times a day for new stories to read.

7. Do you prefer to read short fics or long fics?

It depends on the ship, but I mostly like long fics.

8. How often do you reblog/comment on fics that you like?

I’m absolutely horrid at commenting (I’m working on getting better), but if it’s a story that I really like (ex. the three WIPs mentioned in question 4), I will comment every time there is a new chapter.

9. Tag 3 fic writers you think are underrated/unknown in the fandom/fanfiction community.

I have no idea. In my opinion, I think all writers are underrated and unknown.

10. What’s your favorite fandom, pairing, or character to read fic for?

Enjolras and Grantaire (Enjoltaire) from Les Mis.

11. How do you come up with your fic titles?

Through music or quotes. Sometimes one just comes to me, but mostly through music or quotes.

12. Tell the author your favorite fics title of theirs (not the fics, stricktly the title). Author: what’s your favorite title you’ve come up with and why?

I love all the titles of my fics, I can’t possibly pick a favorite.

13. Do you outline your fics? How much of a headache would someone get if they just look at an outline of yours without reading the fic?

I make some sort of outline, but I don’t think they’d really get much of a headache since it’s pretty much just a basic plot, maybe sometimes a little more than that.

14. Do you have personal word minimum that you hold yourself too? Why or why not?

Absolutely not! I write until I think I’ve found a good quitting spot. That can be 500 words or 20k words. It all depends on how I’m feeling and where my motivation is at.

15. Tell the author your favorite fics of theirs. What’s your (the author’s) favorite fic you’ve written?

Forever Was In His Eyes is my favorite with Begin Again as a close second.

Honorable mention because it pushed me out of my comfort zone: Beating of Our One Heart.

16. Do you research your fics? If so, how deep of a rabbit hole have you down by accident while researching?

I only research if the fic absolutely calls for it.

17. How obsessively do you sit and stare at your fic after you’ve just posted and wait for feedback?

On a scale of 1-100, 100. I’m not motivated by feedback like some writers are, but I do love to know if someone is enjoying my fic or not.

18. Do you have WIP that you keep telling yourself that you’ll eventually get back to, but deep down you know that’s probably lie?

Nope. Any WIPs that are unfinished, will probably stay unfinished.

19. Do you edit your fics after you write them, or do you prefer to just post and run (because it’s someone else’s problem now)?

I edit, and then, I’m constantly editing after it’s posted. If I re-read one of my fics and spot a spelling mistake, I can’t just let it sit there, I HAVE to fix it. I am also currently in the middle of long and giant editing project to make sure all my stories are the best stories that they can.

20. What’s your favorite part about the fanfiction writing process?

Um...I, for some strange reason, love outlining. I love coming up with the sequence of events. How do the characters get from point A to point B. How does the story end.

21. What’s your least favorite part about the fanfiction writing process?

Editing and revising. Always.

22. Do you take fic requests? If so, for what characters and why?

Nope. I don’t get enough attention in my inbox to do that.

23. What’s your absolute favorite trope to write?

Forbidden love. I’ve always been such a sucker for this trope.

24. What’s a trope that you’d like to never hear about as long as you live, let alone write?

I’m sure that there are some tropes that I would never touch in a million years, but I can’t think of any write now.

25. Do you listen to music as your write? If possible, link your writing playlist.

I listen to music, but I don’t have a playlist. Most of time it’s just Taylor Swift.

26. What’s your biggest distraction when writing?

Um...if I’m watching a brand new TV show or one I haven’t watched in a long time, I’ll pay more attention to the screen then what I’m supposed to be writing. This goes for movies too.

27, Do you like to give your readers some warning of what might be coming or just slap them in the face with content at random?

I keep my fics under lock and key until they are finished. No one knows any details about them except me. The one exception to this rule was Beating of Our One Heart. I warned that that fic would feature a polyamorous relationship (something I have never written before) while I was working on the outline.

28. How do you deal with writing pressure (ie: pressure to update, negative comments, deadlines, etc)?

Well, the only pressure I usually feel is worry that people won’t like my story, but I think that’s normal for every writer.

29. Have you ever written for an exchange or event of some kind? Which one(s)?

I don’t write for events.

30. Post a snippet from your current WIP without context - no more than 300 words.

R (11:46 P.M.): I’m not sorry.

31. Of the characters your write for, which is your favorite? Has that choice been swayed at all by your followers/readers’ reactions to certain one?

I love writing Enjolras. I’m sure people who have read my fanfics find him to be OOC, but I don’t care. When I write him, he’s half me projecting and the other half is him being the righteous revolutionary that we know him as.

32. Copy and paste your top three favorite lines/jokes/sentences you’ve ever written. What fics do they come from?

I can’t pick three, I have too many favorites.

33. What do you like writing better: one shots or multi-chapter stuff?

It depends. I like writing both. I also really like writing one shots that are 30k+ and multi-chapter fics that are under 10k. It all just depends on my mood and what the fic calls for.

34. How much of yourself and your life experience do you put into your writing? What do you think your readers’ image of you is?

As stated above, I project onto Enjolras. How much, I’m not saying. I do put my likes and dislikes as the characters’. When I write children, I draw inspiration from my nephews. I use my high school class schedule as the characters’ schedule when I write high school AU’s. The jest of what I’m saying is that I have no idea what my readers’ image of me is.

35. How much has writing fic changed your life?

It’s become my escape when things get too difficult or stressful.

36. Are they any fics or fandoms you’re embarrassed to have written or been apart of?

I’m not embarrassed by it, and I never finished or posted it, but I started writing a Sound of Music fic. I don’t remember what it was about, though.

37. Give an update on your current WIP - if you have one, give a sneak peek to a title or idea that you have and would like to write.

My current WIP is almost done. I just have to finish writing more scene.

38. What does your writing process look like? How chaotic is it on a scale of 1 (very tame) to 10 (you can’t handle this kind of chaos)?

It’s very tame, so 1. I write my stories in order of events, if I don’t I get confused on what’s happen. I start by writing an outline, and then I write and I edit (multiple times) before I post.

39. What’s something about your writing that you pride yourself on?

That I write what I want to. No comments can really influence the story (unless it’s a consistency thing) because I write the whole thing out before it’s posted.

40. How did you come up with the idea for [x fic]?

41. What’s your most popular fic (with the most notes on Tumblr, most hits/kudos on Ao3)?

My most popular fic based on hits: Somethings Are Meant to Be.

My most popular fic based on kudos: The Enjolras Guide to Weddings and Love.

42. Asker: pick three of the author’s works. Author: rank them 1 (the best) - 3 (the worst) based on whatever criteria you want - this could be something totally random that isn’t quality related ( like simply ranking fics based on how many trains appear in them) have fun!

43. Talk about a positive experience with fanfiction or the fanfiction community that you will always remember.

Every comment that I get, especially if I get it when I’m having a bad day, is like a little ray of sunshine for me. Again I’m not motivated by comments or feedback, but I can’t deny that receiving it is like a cherry on top of a delicious hot fudge sundae.

44. Ran about something writing related.

How long it takes to write. I wish I could just connect some sort of machine to my brain, and it would just churn out the words for my fics and they could be done a lot sooner. And that fanfiction could come before homework and life, but alas it can’t.

The Sex Contract - Chapter 18

A/N: Due to the overwhelming request I have followed your encouragement to bring back one of my older stories. This was back in a time where OCs were everything and writing one chapter in each main’s point of view was the trend. I hope that even though I have edited this drastically, that you can appreciate this story comes from my older style of writing. I definitely still read this often and find it enjoyable so I hope you will too.

Chapter 18 – Kaia’s POV.

It was irrational and fully based on emotions but Kaia promptly decided she couldn’t stay anymore. She took one look around her and went straight for her luggage bag, hoisting it up onto the bed and started to messily pack her belongings into it. The tears soon came and her stomach was eating at itself with guilt. Kaia knew she couldn’t take it anymore; she couldn’t be here watching Changmin live the way he was, remaining oblivious to how she felt. Kaia knew she could tell him but the reality of that was harsh, it was impossible for Changmin to date her. Kaia’s only option was to get out of this contract and hope one day that their friendship would return.

For now though, she needed to escape. After finishing her packing, she tried to quietly depart the apartment, opting to carry the heavy luggage bag so its wheels didn’t sound across the wooden floors. Kaia made it to the front door, and after slipping her feet into her shoes, she opened it. Once out in the hallway, she briskly made her way out of the building, hoping no one had heard her departure. With a final look up at the complex, Kaia wiped away her tears and started dragging her luggage down the still bustling sidewalk. Her pace dwindled, and she eventually found a bench to sit down on. Kaia didn’t know what her next move was. If she went home now, she would be in trouble for not finishing her report of TVXQ’s trip to Japan. However, her front row journalism would be difficult to achieve considering she had decided to avoid Changmin. Lowering her head, she let out a defeated sigh. The contract had damaged so much and they had both been oblivious to the destruction in its path. All the little comments Yunho had been making clicked in her head, and Kaia wondered why the warning bells hadn’t gone off earlier. He had been able to see the outcome before anyone else.

Pulling out her phone, Kaia was slightly relieved that her departure hadn’t been detected after all. Dialling a familiar number, she listened to it ring a couple of times. The recipient cleared his throat before answering. Taking a shallow breath, Kaia played with the handle on my bag. “Jae, I have to leave Tokyo but I hope we can meet in Korea sometime.”

“Tell me where you are? Are you at the airport?!” He was suddenly alert and Kaia grimaced, wondering if it had of better to just text the Korean. Smiling, she knew that there would have been no way to escape Jaewon easily either way. “Kaia?!”

“I’m sitting on a bench on the sidewalk. But I could meet you at our Starbucks?” she answered after a bit and could hear that he was moving quickly around his room.

“I’ll be there, don’t leave until I am, okay?” The phone call clicked off and Kaia slowly got to her feet, heading to the coffee shop she now knew how to get to without little trouble. By the time she reached it, Kaia was surprised to see Jaewon already sitting inside the coffee shop, his dark eyes relaxing when he caught sight of her. She was slightly taken back by his reaction but smiled never the less. Making her way over to the table, she sat down and scooted her luggage bag as close as she could.

“Sorry for getting you up out of bed, I felt I should let you know that I’m heading back to Korea,” I explained and Jaewon nodded.

“When do you leave?”

“I just booked a flight whilst coming over here, it leaves at five-thirty AM.” Kaia sighed and gave a weak smile. Jaewon eyed her curiously.

“Did something happen with that musician you’re here with?”

She shook her head. “Not much, I just can’t hack this lifestyle. And to be honest I actually miss Seoul.”

“You’re running away.” He raised an eyebrow at her. “And you like the guy you came with, but he obviously hasn’t noticed you like that so you can’t handle living his lifestyle when he won’t live yours a little too.”

Kaia blinked, wondering how Jaewon had picked all that up without her even mentioning it. She let out a little laugh, hoping it didn’t sound as phony as it did to her own ears. Kaia pointed at Jaewon and wagged her index finger at him. “Have you been watching Korean dramas, Jae? This is the real world, I wouldn’t even dream of thinking I could get with Ch-- my friend.”

“Well, I’ll miss ya, its been fun having you tag along with promotions. You will keep in contact right? So many people say they will, but then never do.”

“Jaewon.” Kaia smiled warmly and nodded. “How could I forget my hero? Course I’ll keep in contact.”

“Email me your home address,” he instructed and she looked at him weirdly. He smirked and leaned over the table towards her. “So I can come stalk you.”

“You would,” Kaia replied with a chuckle and he laughed with her. She sighed a moment later. “Thanks for everything though Jae, I-”

He shook his index finger. “Don’t make the mood sad again, or I will worry and press you for all the details.”

“Alright, I promise. After this drink, I should make my way to the airport though.”

“Well, let’s make this drink last,” he said with another laugh and launched into conversation.

By the time Kaia reached the airport, the comfort of Jaewon’s company was slowly wearing off. She kept checking her watch for the time and not because she was worried about her flight. She had worked out that Changmin and Yunho would wake up half an hour before the boarding time and although she had estimated it nearly impossible for either of them to make it to the airport, Kaia was still paranoid that they would try and respond before she left for Korea.

Now, who’s the one thinking of Korean drama scenes? Kaia thought in attempts to calm down. She even let out a little laugh; the idea of Changmin coming after her did seem highly unlikely. But there was a tiny part of her, foolish to even think of it, that wanted him to realise her feelings and to chase after her. Sighing heavily, Kaia knew that would never happen. Even if he wanted to, he wasn’t just Shim Changmin, but Choikang Changmin, one half of TVXQ. The idea became depressing as the time went by. Blinking back her tears, Kaia tried to focus on something to make the wait speed up. After sending a text to Keith and Sungra about returning home, she attempted to play a game on the device and failed to play it correctly. Eventually frustrated, Kaia shoved the phone in her pocket, folding her arms across her chest.

Looking up at the overhead screen, Kaia noticed the plane was open for boarding and got to her feet, heading for the boarding gate. The hostess bowed at her lightly and she handed over her ticket and passport. Kaia barely listened to what she had to say, her eyes looking around the terminal. It was busy, as expected of any airport, but within the sea of faces, she didn’t see any familiar ones. Kaia almost laughed out loud at her foolishness and took my passport back before heading through the doors. She didn’t stop walking until she was in the lounge, taking a heavy seat on a cushioned bench. Kaia regulated her breathing, trying to wrestle with the scolding her rational mind was giving. Just as she was calming down, Kai heard her phone go off, and she froze for a moment, before scrambling for the device in her pocket.

Unlocking it, she was instantly let down when she saw it was from Jaewon. Kicking herself again, Kaia opened the message and blinked several times. Her frazzled mind re-read the simple sentence several times before she took a really good look at it.

Jaewon: Kaia, I really like you. I hope we can meet up in Korea soon. Jae x

“What is up with today?” She murmured as realisation hit that Jaewon meant he liked her more than a friend. She couldn’t help but smile, imagining how awkward he would be feeling and fretting over getting a response. She realised at that she liked him too. Although Kaia was so wrapped up in her feelings for Changmin, rational thoughts started to occur. She enjoyed Jaewon’s company and found him attractive. He was available to give her more time of the day than Changmin ever would. And he didn’t want her for just sex. The idea of Jaewon’s confession became more appealing by the minute and she was soon grinning, wondering how she should respond. Kaia hesitated for a moment, knowing that things could get tricky for her if he found out about Changmin.

He’s unattainable. You could be with someone who wants you for more than physical needs. Kaia smiled as the thought firmly stamped out her doubts and texted Jaewon back, telling him she was looking forward to meeting with him again.

She boarded the plane with a new resolve to her needs.

“Where are the tears eh? Here I was expecting a friend who looked like a mess after the text I received telling me to come and pick you up four days ahead of schedule.”

“Thanks for the welcome home Keith,” Kaia mentioned as the man who had stepped forth to hug her pulled away. She gave him a strong look. “You’ve lost weight.”

“Fretting over you being in Japan, of course.”

“Hah.” Kaia glanced around her friend and blinked a couple of times, noticing for the first time that Sungra had accompanied him to pick her up. They shared a look before she lurched forward, Kaia’s arms soon clinging to Sungra’s petite frame. Kaia started to cry, a wave of nostalgia hitting her. She had missed Sungra more than she had realised.

“I’m sorry,” Sungra said as the tears slowed down and Kaia looked at her best friend and shook her head.

“No, that’s my line, I’m sorry I was such a shit friend. I should have told you, I was just-”

“Scared that I’d put you into a difficult position, I know.” Sungra smiled. “You were right not to you know, I probably would have asked you to let me meet them just once.”

“Can we still do that?” Keith asked with a grin and Kaia shoved him playfully. “No I’m serious; I’d love to say I met a God.”

“Shush you, let Kai relax first before we ask her for all the goss.”

Kaia groaned and started rolling her suitcase to the exit. “Do I really have to? It’s bad enough I have to face Minah and tell her that I’m unable to finish my job.”

“Minah already knows you’re back in Korea too.”

Kaia gasped and looked at Keith, clamping her eyes shut and stopping in her tracks. Sungra laughed heartily. “Kaia Ashton, you will forever be the most dramatic person I know.”

“I don’t want to get fired from two jobs!” Kaia wailed and then cringed as she felt both of her friends grab an arm each.

“First, we’re going to get some decent coffee. Secondly, you are going to tell us everything this time. No details are to be left out, understand?” Keith and Sungra were both looking at her sternly and Kaia sighed, nodding her head.

She just wondered how she was going to explain the mess she had left behind.

PART 23 - Where Are We Going? (Part 1)

Riley spent an hour and a half getting ready for the rehearsal. It was a good distraction from thinking about her relationship with Liam. . She had decided she wasn’t going to think about it tonight. With Liam gone, she was going to focus on spending time with her friends and celebrating Bertrand and Savannah’s soon to be wedding. She looked herself over in the floor-length mirror. She had chosen an elegant green dress for the night’s festivities. She had been obsessing over how she looked for the last twenty-minutes. Savannah had casually mentioned that there’d be a few members of the press at the rehearsal tonight as they’d be doing an article about the wedding. She’d be lying if she didn’t admit to being a tad bit nervous with the news about the press’ presence. Savannah had assured her that they’d already been told they were not to harass her; otherwise they’d be removed from the estate. That did little to alleviate her worries. They were the press after all . . . freedom of speech and all that jazz . . . she doubted they’d heed the couple’s warnings. She just hoped that they’d be civil and wouldn’t mention the trashy article that had been published in the newspaper last week. Things had stayed relatively calm in scandal land, and Riley had hoped to keep things that way.

She wandered down the staircase, searching for Andy or Maxwell or anyone really - anyone to help lighten the tension brewing inside of her. The estate was already bustling with activity. Caterers were moving hot plates and large buffet tables into the ballroom. Staff members were decorating various parts of the estate with beautiful floral arrangements. The Beaumont Estate had been transformed into something out of a bridal magazine. Riley had design-envy. She’d done her fair share of weddings in New York, but nothing of this magnitude. Everything was absolutely stunning.

She ambled toward the courtyard still searching for her friends. The courtyard was where the rehearsal and subsequent cocktail party was going to take place. Bertrand and Savannah had spared no expense for their wedding celebration. That much was clear. Not that she should have been surprised; everything leading up to the big day had been phenomenal. They deserved it, of course. The road to their happily ever after hadn’t been easy, and to celebrate it as grandly as they were, was well-deserved.

Not paying attention, she turned a corner outside and bumped into someone. “Oh, I’m so sorry,” she started to say, a glimpse of redhead caused her to bite her tongue. She braced herself for the storm of screams that would surely follow. When none occurred, she mustered up enough courage to look up at her. “Olivia, it’s nice to see you again,” Riley paused, waiting for the inevitable snarky retort.

Instead, Olivia greeted her with a tight smile. “Lady Riley, that green dress looks quite lovely on your skin tone,” she said politely, a bit too much teeth still bared.

Riley was startled. Had Olivia actually paid her a compliment? “Oh . . .” she stumbled over her words. “Thank you so much,” she murmured softy, inclining her head toward her direction.

“Don’t look surprised,” she said impassively. “Drake told me I’m supposed to be on my best behavior,” she narrowed her eyes at Riley. “For Savannah’s sake, I said I would, but that doesn’t mean we’re friends,” she snapped back.

“I would make no mistake on that,” Riley nodded, raising her hands up in defeat. “I’ll happily take cordialness over friendship with you any day.”

Olivia lingered, which alarmed Riley. Hadn’t she just said that they weren’t friends? She eyed the redhead suspiciously. “Was there something else?”

“I saw Liam before I left the palace today,” she said quietly, looking around to ensure that no one was within earshot.

“Oh,” Riley paused, unsure where she was going with the conversation.

“He seemed happy,” she said honestly.

Riley smiled lightly.

“Considering he was gone for an extended period of time, and upon his return he’d looked happier than he had in years, I’m assuming you’re the cause?” Olivia asked, looking her up and down.

Riley blushed. “I’d like to think we made each other happy,” she shrugged.

Olivia’s eyes darkened a bit. “Are you going to break his heart again?” she asked sternly.

Riley blanched. “What?”

“Am I going to have to endure watching my oldest, dearest friend be torn to bits over you again?”

Riley hesitated. “I thought we were being cordial,” she murmured.

“We are. If I wasn’t on my best behavior, I’d have you cornered somewhere with my finger in your face,” she said coolly. “I just need to know that you’re not going to hurt him again.”

“I don’t want to hurt him again,” Riley said quickly. That was the truth, after all. She had never wanted to hurt him.

“That’s not the answer I’m looking for,” Olivia said, a slight sneer threatening to break through her calm face.

“That’s the only answer I have for you, Olivia,” she said honestly. “We’re still figuring things out, okay?”

“Hmph,” she murmured indignantly

She was miffed. She made that pretty clear, but Riley could care less. She could play the same game. “So, speaking of relationships . . . how are you and Drake doing?” she asked, a slight insinuation in her tone.

“I’m not having that conversation with you, of all people,” she sneered.

“Hey now, you get to play twenty questions about my life, but I don’t get to ask you about yours? What kind of reciprocity is that?”

“Don’t assume to know what’s going on between us, just because of your friendship with him,” she hissed out. “We know where we stand with one another, and that’s all that matters,” she huffed.

“Really? Because I think your relationship is probably the worst kept secret at court,” Riley smirked, “But okay, we can play the don’t ask, don’t tell game, Olivia,” she shrugged. “I need to find Andy. As usual, it’s been a pleasure,” she sighed, as she went back into the house.

Olivia was left mouth-gaping in the courtyard, still stunned that Riley had the audacity to speak to her that way. So much for being cordial, Riley thought to herself.

As she walked back into the house, she noticed that there were far less staff members rushing around. Clearly, it was getting close to show time, which meant that people would start arriving soon. She really needed to find Andy and Maxwell. She needed back up when it came to dealing with any little courtly or media-related issues that developed.

She felt someone grab her elbow, maneuvering her over to the staircase. “Where have you been?” Andy fumed at her.

“I’ve been butting heads with Olivia, you know the usual,” Riley shrugged. “She got critical, I got critical and sarcastic. It was a mess. I’m sure I’ll hear about it from Drake later,” Riley mused. “Why, what’s wrong?”

“Oh, nothing, just the fact that Maxwell wants me to introduce me to everyone he knows,” she said in a panic.

“What?” Riley said, confused.

“He wants people to meet his girlfriend. Me!” She sat down on the steps, her hands shaking.

“And that’s a problem because?” Riley still wasn’t following. Just a few days ago, Andy had been over the moon about being his girlfriend. Now, she was freaking out about it.

“Because I’m going to mess things up. Apparently, that’s what I do. I say the wrong thing . . . or use the wrong utensil . . . or greet someone the wrong way,” she sighed. “I can’t do anything right,” she said sadly.

“Andy, you’ve got this. You’re endearing,” Riley said encouragingly.

“According to you. According to Bertrand, I’m a thorn in his side that won’t go away,” she huffed.

“He did not say that,” Riley eyed her pointedly.

“He didn’t have to. He tried to quiz me on fork etiquette this afternoon, Riley. Fork etiquette.”

Riley cringed. “I take it that it didn’t go well?” Riley shouldn’t have asked, because she already knew the answer.

“He looked at me like I was a moron. My mom went to Julliard, my father went to Berkley. I come from good genes, Riley. Yet, he gives me this look like I’m some unworthy peon,” she grumbled.

“Do you want me to talk to him?” Riley asked sincerely.

“No . . . that’s not a good idea. Not today at least. Or tomorrow of course,” she sighed. “Am I being ridiculous?”

“No, you’re not,” Riley assured her.

“How did you survive this, Ri?”

She opened her mouth to respond, but she couldn’t. Had she survived? She put on a good act. She was pretty good at faking it, but did she really survive court? She’d run away . . . and upon her return she had done everything in her power to avoid any sort of uncomfortable court experienced.

“I . . . I honestly don’t know,” she whispered.

“I don’t know if I can handle the constant scrutiny,” she said honestly. “I’m the kind of girl that lounges about all day eating junk food. I don’t know how these ladies have their “a game” on around the clock.”

Riley hummed in agreement. “I know, but at least you’ve got Maxwell, and he’s definitely not like Bertrand when it comes to this sort of thing. You know that right? Maxwell doesn’t care about court propriety and the like. What I do know is he cares about you quite a bit. Why don’t you just focus on that for right now, yeah?”

Andy nodded uncertainly.

“Let’s go find your guy so that we can get this party started, huh? Maxwell makes everything ten times better. Promise,” she smiled reassuringly.

True to Riley’s word, Maxwell did make everything better or at least distracted from the worry that was on both women’s minds. When they found him, he was setting up a very elaborate champagne display with a very large sword resting at its side. It looked as if he were preparing for one of his champagne fountain tricks.

“Maxwell, I thought Savannah said no swordplay . . .” Riley trailed off. “This very much looks like swordplay.”

“I honestly don’t think she meant it . . . did she?” A look of concern flitted across his face, but only for a moment. “Of course she didn’t mean it. This is magnificent,” he looked on his creation proudly. “It isn’t a Beaumont party without some swordplay.”

Andy looked on bemused. “What’s going on?”

“I think we may be witnessing the motive behind Maxwell’s murder,” Riley whispered tersely.

Andy’s eyes widened. “Should we stop him?”

“I’m not sure he’d listen,” Riley shrugged honestly.

An hour later, as guests started to gather in the entryway, Maxwell announced his gift of a toast in Savannah and Bertrand’s honor. Bertrand’s face during the entire exchange could be described as pained . . . not for fear of what was about to occur, but in the fact that he had to restrain himself from throttling Maxwell in front of all of his esteemed guests. Savannah, although she had been the one to nix the entire idea, looked on intrigued about the entire set up. He executed the breaking of the champagne bottles flawlessly as guests looked on in reverence. The champagne flowed freely into the set up of glasses that he arranged just perfectly.

Photographers snapped photos and were riveted by the performance. Riley later overheard Bertrand speaking to a reporter from the CBC.

“Why of course, Maxwell has always been a bit on the theatrical side, but my goodness, was that show not just amazing? Leave it to my brother to wow a crowd,” he said with a broad grin on his face.

Riley couldn’t help but laugh. It was such a typical Bertrand reaction. As long as the image was positive, he’d embrace it.

Riley, Andy and Maxwell mingled for the rest of the time. She recognized a few people from court who she interacted with during her social season, and they politely greeted her. Thankfully, she hadn’t found herself in any sort of uncomfortable situation with the press, for which she was very grateful. She didn’t think she’d be in the mood to deal with any of that tonight. Just as she was about to suggest they get another drink, Maxwell spotted someone across the room. He grabbed Andy’s hand before turning to Riley.

“If you’ll excuse us, Riley. I want Andy to meet by Great-Aunt Mildred,” he said quickly, leading Andy off in the other direction. Andy’s eyes looked at her pleadingly, but Riley just shook her head at her friend, waving her off.

Riley picked up another glass of wine, when she spotted Drake out of the corner of her eye. He was approaching her fast and looked none too pleased.

“Did you harass Olivia this afternoon?” He said angrily.

She raised an eyebrow at him. “Hi Drake, I’m fine thanks. How are you doing?” She smirked as she took a sip from her wine glass.

“I’m serious, Lawson. She went on and on about how you verbally attacked her in the courtyard earlier.”

Riley snorted. “Really? Olivia Nevrakis needs you to fight her battles for her? So much for crushing one’s enemies huh?”

“Come on Lawson. I’m catching enough flack as it is. She said you were bombarding her with questions about our relationship,” he explained.

“I did not harass her. It was the other way around. She started getting all defensive about Liam so I gave her a little taste of her own medicine.”

Drake closed his eyes, miserable. “What did you do?”

“Nothing that she didn’t do first,” she snipped. “I just asked her about your guys relationship is all,” she shrugged. “I didn’t realize she was going to run and tattle on me,” she shook her head in disbelief.

“Lawson, will you just leave it alone?”

“What? I didn’t say anything that wasn’t true,” she exclaimed. “Look, I’m not one to be handing out advice. I mean, my own life is pretty screwed up, but I’m just saying if you care about her . . . if you love her . . . why the hell are you beating around the bush? Just be out with it. Love each other. Cherish each other.”

“I’m not exactly marriage material, Lawson. The set up we have going on is fine. We’re not hurting anyone,” Drake tried to brush her off.

“Except maybe yourselves,” she said honestly. “You know what I would have given to be able to have a public relationship with Liam. Don’t you realize how fortunate you guys are?”

“I never really thought of it that way,” he shrugged.

“Why the hell wouldn’t you want to shout it from the rooftops if you could, Drake?”

“I don’t have a title,” he said simply. “That’s all anyone would ever look at. The commoner with the Duchess. And yeah, that never mattered to me before, but when you have somebody like Olivia . . . it’s kind of important.”

“A title is a title, it doesn’t determine who you are as a person, Drake. You of all people should understand that. Besides, if it mattered that much, why is she even with you? And don’t say it’s just about the fooling around, because we both know it’s more than that.”

He bowed his head in defeat. “Anyone ever tell you that you’re annoying when you’re right?”

Riley smiled in victory. “Maybe once or twice,” she winked at him, and as she was going to say a bit more, she felt a tap on her shoulder.

“Lady Riley, you’re looking stunning this evening,” Liam murmured from behind her. “Drake,” he nodded at his friend.

“Liam,” she said in surprise. “I didn’t think you’d be attending tonight.”

“And that’s my cue to go find Olivia,” Drake said. “Thanks, Lawson. I’ll catch you later,” he waved as he went searching for his redhead.

Riley and Liam nodded as he left, their attention turning back to one another. “Francesco was kind to me tonight. He didn’t chatter my ear off about sports or the like,” he chuckled. “Figured I’d take my chances and see how the Beaumont rehearsal was going,” he said. “How’s everything going?”

“Well, the rehearsal lasted all of ten minutes, and then it turned into just another Beaumont party,” she laughed. “I’m really glad you came,” she whispered.

“Me too,” he winked at her.

They walked around the courtyard, chatting quietly, careful not to draw too much attention to themselves. They found themselves in one of the corners of the courtyard where they firmly planted themselves. Thankfully, no one seemed to pay them any attention.

“So, why aren’t you off mingling? Usually I wouldn’t have the luxury to see you until much later in the evening,” she asked, seeing that there were many noblemen and diplomats that he probably should schmooze with, at lease for the sake of propriety.

He glanced over, shrugging slightly. “I’m not in the mood for idle small talk,” he said, taking as sip of hi scotch.

She frowned noticing that he wasn’t able to meet her eyes. “Liam, don’t lie to me,” she said sternly.

He inhaled a deep breath. “I get to see these people all the time,” he said coolly. “I ran into Maxwell this morning as I was leaving . . . he reminded me that our time together is growing short.,” he explained.

“Oh,” she paused taking a sip from her wine glass. “You’re talking about me going back to New York.”

He frowned, giving a slight nod. “We haven’t talked much about what happens after you leave . . . if there’s anything after . . . I just don’t want to squander any more time than I already have.”

“Oh, Liam,” she said sadly. She wanted to reach out to him, to pull him into her arms and tell him that she had the same fears; that she, too, was worried about what was going to happen between them. She can’t. Not here, there were too man prying eyes. People from court, members of the press. Even them talking to openly could be misconstrued. One wrong picture with the right story could cause another scandal to break. She didn’t want that added worry on his mind. “Do you want to go somewhere to talk?” she asked.

He looked around, checking to see if they’d be missed. “Yes, but perhaps you should go on ahead and I’ll follow after,” he nodded.

“My room then?”

He nodded, walking off toward the opposite end of the courtyard.

It took around fifteen minutes before he came to her room. She was certain he did a quick round around the courtyard to assuage any indication that they’d be meeting with one another.

“Hey,” she murmured nervously as he knocked at her door. She couldn’t pinpoint why she was feeling so nervous. It was just Liam after all.

“Hi,” He whispered as he entered her bedroom.

“So, let’s talk,” she said softly. “What’s bothering you?”

He hesitated for a moment, almost as if he had suddenly regretting coming into he bedroom. He stared hard at her for a moment, before finally clearing his throat.

“I know you didn’t come back for me, Riley,” he acknowledged. “I also know that you had no intention of letting me know you were even back . . . and I can’t help but wonder if Bertrand hadn’t told me about you being here . . . would we even be at this point? Wondering what we’re going to do about us? Wondering about the future?”

Riley looked at him carefully. He looked so vulnerable, so uncertain. That wasn’t like Liam at all. He always came across to collected, so self-assured. It was hard for her to take this Liam in.. “Liam . . . I know what you’re saying . . . I didn’t not want to see you . . . I was scared to see you again, because I knew what would happen. I knew this would happen, but now that it has, I’m so happy that we found each other again,” she said honestly. “I was confused before . . . and honestly, I’m still a little confused. Not about my feelings for you. I love you . . . but the future . . . it scares the hell out of me. I don’t know what to do,” she said honestly.

He ran his hands through his hair. “So what do we do then? Play it by ear?”

She shrugged. “Well, at least we’re not alone in this conundrum,” she said wistfully. “I’m sure Maxwell and Andy are having just as difficult of a time discerning what they’re going to do in the next few days.”

“Maxwell’s thinking of marrying her,” he said simply, catching her off guard.

She nearly choked. “W-what?”

“Bertrand talked him out of it course,” he explained. “Lectured him about propriety and how grossly negligent it would be without a proper period of courting,” Liam smirked. “Leave it to Bertrand to knock any sort of romance out of the situation,” he scoffed.

“Good God, don’t do that to me.” She put her hand over her heart. “I could have died right here, Liam.”

“You don’t approve of them marrying?” Liam asked, a bit surprised by her reaction.

“Marrying . . . no. Definitely not,” she shook her head vehemently. “Of course I approve of them being together. They’re great for one another, but marriage . . . that’s a big commitment,” she emphasized. “They’ve just met and they’re still learning about all of their little quirks. Getting married . . . that’s a forever kind of deal, you know what I mean? I just . . . I don’t want either of them to get hurt,” she said sincerely. “Besides, Andy has her future to think about. She’s in grad school, working on her thesis. She’s got all of these amazing plans for her future. I don’t’ want her to forget about all of that because she made a guy.”

“Are you talking about Andy, or are you talking about yourself?” He asked with a pained expression on his face. ht here, Liam.”

“You don’t approve of them marrying?” Liam asked, a bit surprised by her reaction.

“Are you talking about Andy, or are you talking about yourself?” He asked with a pained expression on his face.

1. Is there a story you’re holding off on writing for some reason?

I have 10+ fics either mostly done or heavily outlined and I just don’t want to post them. I’m not super active in any fandom anymore so I know none of the fics are very good and I just don’t care enough to put them out there. They’re all fluff or humor or smut.

2. What work of yours, if any, are you embarrassed about existing?

Eh, I’m not embarrassed about any fic I’ve written because they all meant something to me at the time, even the weird one with alien sex.

3. What order do you write in? Front of book to back? Chronological? Favourite scenes first? Something else?

Mostly chronological, I guess. When I get an idea, I just start writing as fast as I can if the outline is developing in my head. I want to get down all the ideas I have, whether or not only a fourth of them make the final cut. That helps with the chronology and then all the little dialogue snippets I come up with as I go along. Once that’s done, it’s easier to go back to the beginning and fill it all in.

4. Favourite character you’ve written?

I love writing Riario from Da Vinci’s Demons and Gustav from Tokio Hotel.

5. Character you were most surprised to end up writing?

Gustav, definitely. And Grimmjow from Bleach.

6. Something you would go back and change in your writing that it’s too late/complicated to change now?

Sometimes I get a hankering to go back and edit stuff to make it tighter but I’m too lazy. The only fic I’ve ever done that to is Thick as Thieves because it got weirdly popular for about a minute and every time I looked over it I found things I wanted to fix, particularly over-explaining and over-describing things. So I gave it a trim and hope that it reads a little better now.

7. When asked, are you embarrassed or enthusiastic to tell people that you write?

The only people who know I write fanfic are online friends and I’ve had generally positive reactions from them. There was only one fandom I can think of that really looked down its nose at fanfic but I told them right off I was writing so they could judge me all they wanted.

8. Favourite genre to write?

Comedy, fluff and action. I break out in hives when I read or think about angst. And I always argue that there is a big difference between drama and angst. Drama is necessary in anything that isn’t a total fluff or slapstick comedy ficlet, but drama is good. I just can’t handle angst where everything bad happens and then more bad happens and then there is an unhappy ending.

9. What, if anything, do you do for inspiration?

I’ve been reading a lot thanks to Amazon Kindle’s freebie program thing and oh boy, does it make me appreciate good fanfic even more! Also it really helps to re-watch or re-read the source material for the fandom I want to write in. That usually brings up some more ideas for fix-it fic or adding on a scene here and there. Or suddenly realizing all the UST there was between two characters that I didn’t see a decade ago.

10. Write in silence or with background music? Alone or with others?

I have to have background noise, preferably the TV set to sports or sitcom reruns, something I won’t be paying attention to. I live alone so there’s that, but if I’m somewhere with a long wait, I’ve been known to write smut at the hairdressers and fluff fic at the garage waiting for my oil change.

11. What aspect of your writing do you think has most improved since you started writing?

I think my fanfic has actually gotten worse since I started posting on AO3. I feel like I hit a plateau during Teen Wolf days and then actually went downhill with characterizations and writing style. I lost the showing part of the stories and started getting lazy and relying on the telling.

12. Your weaknesses as an author?

Plots, omg, what are Plots???? I just don’t have the energy, time or creativity to come up with and execute any multi-chapter, intricately plotted fanfics. I admire and kiss the feet of fanfic authors who do. I’m madly jealous of you guys! Also lately the telling rather than showing thing, as I said.

13. Your strengths as an author?

I don’t have any. I guess I’m reasonably good at clean copy—spelling, grammar, punctuation.

14. Do you make playlists for your work?

Nah, I don’t listen to music while I write. But I do have a list of songs that reminded me of the DVD bandfic whose title I honestly can’t remember at the moment...it’s the longest title I ever made but it cracked me up at the time. Every time I hear one of those songs, I immediately think of those guys. I never shared it because it’s a weird mix of 80s and 90s hair bands, some 2010s pop and a few contemporary Christian songs whose singer was my voice model for Riario.

15. Why did you start writing?

I’ve been writing pretty much as long as I can remember, but the first time I shared it was in seventh grade when my two best friends and I started writing a book in a spiralbound notebook we passed back and forth. Now we would call it a self-insert fanfic, but we didn’t know anything except we were having a great time. Then they both left our school and I fell out of touch with them for the most part. I kept writing because I could make the world I wanted on the page so I could re-read it.

16. Are there characters that haunt you?

Canon characters that haunt me are Riario because he has layers hidden under his layers wrapped around his layers and canon did him so wrong. I still feel a lot of sympathy for Derek from Teen Wolf and want him to have a happy ending. Now I’m starting to feel a lot more feelings about Bleach characters.

17. If you could give your fledgling author self any advice, what would it be?

Write what you love. Read all the things, everything, every genre. Which is weird because I’ve done both of those things and … I haven’t turned out all that great. So I guess it would be to practice more, write all the time and don’t let yourself get lazy and complain you have no energy to write, you lazy fuck.

18. Were there any works you read that affected you so much that it influenced your writing style? What were they?

I think Elizabeth Peters influenced my writing style in the past 18 years since I discovered her. Although I don’t write fanfic in the first-person, she is a master of the unreliable narrator as well as creating characters who are lively and complicated and burst off the page (which I don’t do). But her use of language and her style is wonderful, and I see glimpses of that sometimes but not often enough. Her humor is the one thing I strive for too. Also Terry Pratchett for his use of humor and satire and his brilliant way of turning everyday, common things on their head. I once wrote a fairy tale kind of fic for a prompt fest and the prompter compared it to Discworld, and I walked around with my chest puffed out for days.

19. When it comes to more complicated narratives, how do you keep track of outlines, characters, development, timeline, etc?

Ha, I don’t write complicated things. But my outline process serves me pretty well when I do attempt longer fic.

20. Do you write in long sit-down sessions or in little spurts?

I prefer long sit-down sessions. Once I get in the groove, things seem to roll better. If I have to keep getting up or getting distracted, it sucks.

21. What do you think when you read over your older work?

“Hahaha, I can’t believe you answered a kinkmeme prompt where the two main characters were lions in a zoo and they humped.”

22. Are there subjects that make you uncomfortable to write?

Angst. I won’t write rape or sexual violence. No non-con. No major character death. I know there are other things but I don’t run into them because I only stick to the stuff I like.

23. Any obscure life experiences that you feel have helped your writing?

All the time. I’ve pulled from my professional life more than once. I wrote one fic based on a very bizarre week that happened to me and everyone thought it was very wacky and hilarious. It wasn’t at the time and I did change the ending to give it a happy resolution, but I can look back now and merely grimace. I guess it was pretty funny.

24. Have you ever become an expert on something you previously knew nothing about, in order to better a scene or a story?

No, I’m the opposite. If I write an AU fic, I try to set it in a world or scene that I’m already familiar with because I’m lazy. I did do some Renaissance research when I was writing for Da Vinci’s Demons.

25. Copy/paste a few sentences or a short paragraph that you’re particularly proud of.

We have been insuring our Audi with the Co-op, who I've generally found to be reasonable. However, now we have a problem. A couple of months ago we bought a van with the intention of replacing the Audi with the van. But the van needed some work doing on it, so we took out a second insurance on the van with the Co-op, so we could still drive the Audi. At the time, I was disappointed to be told that we could not have a No Claims Bonus on the van, as they said it could only be applied to one policy at a time. But they gave the clear impression that when we cancel the Audi insurance, we could then transfer the NCB to the van. The Audi has now broken down, so we want to cancel its insurance. However, yesterday when I called them, they now said they cannot transfer the NCB to the van as it would be being transferred 'mid-season' to a different car policy. They said they could only have applied it to the van if we had changed the original Audi's policy to cover the van, instead of taking out a different insurance policy for the van. This seems ridiculous. Surely, we are entitled to our NCB?! Why should it matter that it is mid-season or not? I explained that if I cancelled our insurances with them and went to another company, I would be given a NCB on the van so why won't they give it to me. They agreed! I really don't want to change, as I don't trust other companies and the Co-op seem more ethical than others. But this seems so stupid. To get round this silly rule without changing company, I'm thinking of cancelling the van insurance and changing the Audi insurance to the van, ie. do what they said I should have done in the beginning. Zevran originates from Dragon Age, a world of war, politics and darkspawns, and I will not discount the integrity of the world for your comfort, unfortunately. 5. Do not force a ship on me. I love shipping as much as the next person but I tend to take things slow and I will not turn this blog into an exclusive blog for anyone. I multi-ship aggressively and do it based on chemistry.

11. Most of my replies will not contain icons. I personally don’t see the point of it, especially since I’m looking for writing, and less of how beautiful your character’s face is. I also don’t want to steal art from artists who work on their artwork for long hours and don’t want it reposted elsewhere.

12. Zevran is not a morally upright person, and he will/may hurt your character, given the appropriate conditions. I play him quite honestly, and if my personal take on him is not something that you can accept, that’s alright. But do know that I will not make him a ‘nice’ person for anyone’s sake.

13. Feel free to bring up smut from to get-go. I appreciate directness and with Zev especially, sex is a common thing. That said, it doesn’t all have to be about sex. Think of other possibilities. Do they share a common motherland? Enemy? Target? Or is your character looking to hire him for a contracted kill? Feel free to talk to me about anything under the sun because I literally have pretty much no triggers.

"Fine. But only for a little bit," he responds while giggling at your sudden transition from a pouty face, to an extremely excited one.

You, being the quick learner that you are, had soon perfected the little trick and called your mother over so you could both show-off. "Mommy! Come look at what my new friend taught me!"

"Hmm?" Your mother looked up from her book to watch you guys. You both successfully landed as she clapped and laughed at your scared face when you had almost lost your balance.

You turned towards Barry as your mother informed you that you'd have to go home soon. "Thanks Bear!" You were grinning from ear-to-ear as you continued, "I had so much fun today and meeting you! I couldn't ask for a better friend!"

"No problem, Y/N! You'll come back tomorrow, right?"

"Yep!" You exclaimed, popping the "p."

"Bye-bye!" You and your mother both responded.

You had kept going to that park, every day, just to spend more time with your newest friend. In fact, the end of summer was drawing nearer, and your family was planning on moving, tomorrow, on account of your father being promoted. You didn't know exactly where you were moving to, as you tried to tune out their voices everytime your parents talked about moving. You hated the thought of leaving. Leaving your hometown, friends, close family, and hiding spots was too much for you. But, you couldn't really do much about it, seeing as you were 6. So, instead, you went around and got pictures of your favorite spots and people, while your sister/brother tagged along, to make sure you wouldn't get kidnapped, this is L.A. for Pete's sake.

At last, you ended up at your favorite park. You immediately smiled as you saw Barry waiting for you on the swings. "BEAR-BEAR!" You screeched, as your brother/sister sighed and you took off towards the swing set.

"Y/N/N!" He yelled back, jumping off the swing and bracing himself for your daily tackle-jump on him.

Your sister/brother chuckled, turning their camera on and taking a couple pictures and you and Barry fell on the grass.

You both sat up and immediately fell back over laughing. You eventually stood up and posed as your sibling took pictures of you both. After all the fuss was over you and Barry sat on the swings one last time before you would leave. "I'm going to miss you so much, Y/N," Barry said, slightly tearing up. "I don't want you to leave..."

"I don't want to either," you were tearing up as well, but tried not to show it. "Just, pinky promise you won't forget me?"

"Pinky promise."

You hugged each other for a bit, then, wiping your eyes, stood up. "Y/N! Time to go! You still have to finish packing up your books!"

"Coming Y/S/N!" You yelled. "Bye-bye forever Bear..."

"Bye-bye Y/N/N..." He whispered, holding back tears, as you walked away. Away from your favorite person, knowing you'd never forget how much this boy meant to you.

That night, you had finished packing and ended up crying yourself to sleep. Your father had come in to wake you up at 3:40 a.m. They had finished packing everything, except everyone's sleeping bags and suitcases of essentials and clothing, into the moving van. You rolled up your sleeping bag, tossed it into the back of your families mini-van, grabbed your suitcase, and jumped in the truck, falling back asleep as you left your old life behind.

~Fast-forward to when you are 18, moving out of your small home in Minnesota, and moving back out to California, L.A. specifically, to start college~

You sat in your living room, surrounded by clothing, books, supplies, and photo albums. Sighing, you looked up at you mother. She laughed, "how about I pack this stuff in the suitcases, and you pick which photos you want."

"Really? Oh my gosh, thank you so much!" You exclaimed falling backward onto your pile of photo books. "Ouch!"

Your mother laughed even harder and you shot her a death glare. Picking up an album without removing your glare, you looked puzzled at it. "Mom, were all these from when we were in Cali?" You questioned, flipping through the pages.

"Oh, I almost forgot about that album! You can have it, it's mostly you anyway."

You looked back down, then stood up. "I'll be back in an hour, okay?"

"Alright, just don't forget bug spray, it's in the bathroom!" She shouted as you walked towards the bathroom.

That was just like your mother to read your mind and know where you were going. Then again, it's the only place where no one bugs you (minus the actual bugs).

After applying bug spray, and grabbing some sweats, you began the trek, up the hill, to your treehouse. You dad had helped you build it when your family first moved to Minnesota. You immediately claimed it as yours, and that's the way it has stayed for 12 years.

Climbing up the worn ladder, you stopped at the top and turned around. This gave you the perfect view of the just-beginning sunset. ‘Perfect!’ You thought as you finished your ascent into the small room. Sitting at your small desk, and giving yourself another breathtaking view of the setting sun, you switched on your small battery-powered lamp and opened the book.

As you slowly turned the pages, one-by-one, memories flooded to the front of your mind. Tears started flowing as you saw pictures of your siblings, parents, friends, family, and events. Wiping your eyes, you flipped to the last page and saw one single picture. It was you and a small boy... what was his name? He seemed so familiar, yet, you couldn't remember his name.

By now the sun had completely sunk. You shut the book, turned off the light, and left your treehouse, back towards your house.

When you walked in, the scent of your favorite dinner filled your nose. Smiling, you walked back to the living room and placed the album in one of your suitcases.

~Timeskip to after you graduate college because I haven't even been through it and I don't know what to write xD~

"Thanks for watching everyone, next time on (Y/C/N)" You waved goodbye to everyone and ended the video. "WOOP TIME TO EDIT!" You screamed, knowing no one would hear you.

You had started this whole YouTube thing, as just a hobby back in your second year of college. It gave you something to keep you busy, considering you breezed through assignments and classes, and you were creative enough to keep the channel going and growing. You were currently at 2.6 million subscribers, gaining about 450,000 more a week. After you had graduated college with a bachelor's degree in I/D/H. You had decided to just stay in L.A. to continue your channel and see where life takes you. But now, being a full-time YouTuber, only uploading twice a week, you had a lot of free time. As much as you loved spending that time playing video games, you needed something more challenging, more..... exciting.

So, the next day, you were flipping through the area's newspaper. Maybe there would be an ad for you to earn a little extra money?

Suprise, surprise, there was! "Experienced editor needed for video making. $---- per week, call Suzy at, xxx-xxx-xxxx for details," you read to yourself. "Hmm, why not? I could do that!"

You immediately grabbed your cell and dialed the number. She picked up almost instantly and you talked for about 10 minutes, then, set up a Skype interview. Suzy sounded so excited to hear from someone, like, this position was needed A.S.A.P. or something. She also said that you sounded like the type of person they were looking for, so that made you extra happy!

~Timeskip to a week later, an hour before the interview~

You looked at the clock. 4:30. The interview was in an hour and you were so excited, that you had started getting ready 2 hours ago. Being extra careful with your outfit choice and make-up. You were wearing black jeans and converse, as well as a Legend of Zelda sweatshirt and your lucky watch. You had only done your eye make-up, considering you felt your lips looked fine the way they were. You quickly put your H/C hair into a messy bun and turned on your favorite show.

Soon, it was 5:25. You jumped up and grabbed your laptop, pulling up Skype, and making sure you looked alright. At exactly 5:30 sharp, the ringing starts. Putting on a smile, you answered.

~Timeskip again because I've never had a Skype interview~

"Well, thank you so much for letting me have this interview!" You say, glancing at the time, 6:15, and noticing she was wrapping up.

"No problem! You are so much fun to be around," she laughed. "Honestly, in my opinion, which is the most important right now, you should get the job. Your personality is perfect, you like the same topics we do, we are able to hold a convo together, AND I feel like we will be friends soon!"

You blushed as she complimented and chuckled at the rest. "So I got the job?" She nodded, "Thank you so much, Suzy! I can't wait until I meet you all in person!"

You were ecstatic, and, by the looks of it, so was Suzy. "So you accept! Hooray! I'll send you the Grump Space address and you can start on Monday!"

"Thanks! Bye now!"

"Bye!"

The call ended and you jumped up and down on the couch until you were too tired to continue. Monday was 3 days from now. That'll give you plenty of time to watch some of their videos to get the gist of what you were in for.

*BEEP BEEP BEEP BEEP* *BEEP BEEP BEEP BEEP* *BEEP BEEP BEE--*

"Urrng," you grumbled, smacking the snooze button on your alarm.

You lay in your bed, staring at the ceiling, trying to wake up. After about 3 minutes, you rolled over to grab your phone. Turning the cell on, you realized what day it was, and practically jumped out of bed. You rushed to the bathroom and hopped into the shower. You began to sing some songs that popped into your head. Luckily, no one else lived with you.

After practically screaming 3 songs, you got out of the shower and started getting dressed into your favorite red sweater, as well as some high-waisted jeans and matching sneakers. You quickly checked your already-done nails for chips. Surprisingly, they still looked flawless. You still had an hour before you had to leave, so you spent a good 20 minutes perfecting your hairdo.

After you were satisfied with your hair, you sat down to do your make-up. You put on a shade of red lipstick that matched your outfit and started working on your eyebrows. When they looked fabulous, you started working on your eyes.

By the time you were done with everything, you still had 10 minutes left. You quickly spritzed some perfume on yourself and grabbed your bag. Sighing, you spoke to yourself, "Might as well get going. Better early than late!"

You grabbed your phone and lucky earbuds and walked outside into the crisp, cool morning. You smiled and went to start your car. The box full of essential items was already in the backseat, a result of being nervous and prepared last night. In the box were items such as perfume, your travel make-up bag, Pokémon figurines, your favorite book series, several potted plants, various office supplies, and a picture frame holding the old picture of you and a small boy.

~Time hops into the future are easy escapes for authors~

You pulled up to the Grump Space, as Suzy had called it, and shot a text to Suzy telling her you had arrived. You got out of your car, grabbed the box, and started towards the door. As soon as you arrived at the door, it opened, revealing the gorgeous creature that was Suzy. "Y/N! Welcome! I was worried you wouldn't show up!" She giggled, holding the door. "Come in, come in! I'll show you your desk."

Giggling at her statement, you walked inside and realized that you were the only ones here. "Uhm, Suzy? Where is everyone? Did I show up too early?"

"No no no, the guys are always late. Well, except for Arin, I make him come with me."

At the sound of his name, Arin walked out from the kitchen, carrying toast. "Oh hey Y/N! Welcome to the Grump Space! Did you eat breakfast yet?" He offered a piece of toast towards you, which you gladly accepted. He walked over to, what you assumed was, his desk. While taking a bite of your toast, Suzy lead you over to an empty desk. Your desk.

She opened your box and helped you set up your little workspace. Before she could see the picture, you quickly put it face down on your chair. When you were both satisfied with the way the desk looked, she noticed the photo frame on your chair. "Oops, I guess we missed something!"

You gasped and reached out for the picture, but you were too late. She picked it up and stared at it for a while. "Y/N, this is so adorable! Is that you? Who is this little boy? I swear I've seen him before..."

"Do you know who he is?" You asked without thinking. Realizing what you said, you immediately looked down, blushing. "I-I mean, yeah... It's an old friend and me when we were younger, living here in L.A."

"You don't remember his name?" She asked, obviously puzzled.

"No, for the life of me I can't. I remember that we met the summer before I moved to Minnesota, but that was all the way back when I was 6. I've had that photo for years now, and I still can't remember his name."

"Awe I'm sorry Y/N. I can help you try to remember, though, now that you work with me!" She looked cheery again, which made you light up again as well.

"Oh thank you, Suzy! That would be great!" She set the frame on your desk as you continued, "I'd love to meet everyone else first, though. I've been binge watching videos to get myself pumped and ready to edit, for the past few days."

"Really? So I hired a fan," she chuckled.

"A slight one," you grinned.

"Well, I guess it's less work for Barry, then."

"Yup, I even watched his tutorial on GrumpOut, so I know pretty much all I need to, already!"

"That's perfect Y/N!" She squealed and hugged you.

Just then, a tall, fluffy haired man walked in, singing. Behind him, walked in a shorter, bearded man. "Dan! Barry!" You shouted.

Dan stopped singing, and they both turned to look at you. Locking eyes with Barry, he smiled and you slightly blushed. He seemed familiar. And not because you knew him from the videos.

"You must be Y/N, the new editor!" Barry said, still holding eye contact.

"Wait, I didn't know we were getting a new grump?" Danny turned towards Suzy, quite confused.

"Dan, I told you guys all last Friday. That was the day I interviewed her, remember? I even showed you guys some of her videos!"

Quickly facing Suzy, you asked, "you showed them my videos? Is that how you knew I was, quote, perfect for the job?"

"Yup! Your videos were Barry-approved," she laughed.

You turned back to face Barry and he winked at you. "Well, welcome to the team!" They all started clapping, as Arin walked in cheering.

Then, a groggy, blue-eyed man walked in. Looking up, everyone stopped. "Did I miss something?" He questioned as everyone started laughing.

~Another timeskip to when peeps are recording and Barry is giving you a quick run-down at his desk~

"Annnnnd, that's about it! Seeing as you already knew most of that, we have some break time."

"Really? Oh, 'cause they're recording and what-not." You headed over to your desk to grab your phone.

Your desk was just off to the right of Barry's, just in case you would need any help. He turned towards your desk as you spoke up again. "Coffee run?" You suggested.

He nodded, but his eyes were locked on your desk. Following his gaze, you noticed he was looking at the photo frame. You turned your head back towards him, to find him now staring at you. "Is that you? Like, in the picture?"

You smiled, "yeah, it's me and an old friend, here in L.A., from before I moved when I was six. Before you ask, no I don't remember his name, and yes, I'm trying to find him because he was kinda my first love..."

"Y/N..." He turned back to his desk, quickly opening drawers, looking for something.

"Yes Barry?" You were a little confused while you waited until he found what he needed.

Smiling, he pulled out a small, photo from the top drawer. Before you could see it, he spoke again. "So, you're looking for your first love, too?"

You nodded, and he continued. "I met my first love back when I was six, she moved away, though, and I wasn't sure where. The day before she had to leave, we spent almost the entire day together, and her brother/sister took a picture of us. A week later, I got the picture in the mail, and I've been looking for her ever since," he noticed how confused you were and showed you an exact copy of your picture.

You gasped and jumped up. You both hadn't noticed, but as Barry was telling the story, everyone else had started listening from various spots in the room. Barry stood up and you ran to hug him. He seemed surprised at first, but quickly relaxed and spun you around. "Barry I've been looking for you for years!" You squealed.

"Y/N I can't believe I finally found you!" He responded, equally as excited.

You both stayed hugging each other until Suzy tapped your shoulder. You quickly parted and noticed everyone else in the room. Barry blushed as Suzy spoke. "Well well Y/N, I guess you really did need my help to find him," she laughed.

"Thank you Suzy, thank you, thank you, thank you!"

Looking around the room, Arin and Dan smiled and winked at you, then walked back to the recording room. Ross yawned and said "congrats" before turning towards his desk, and Suzy turned to walk upstairs. "So, how about that coffee run, love?" Barry looked at you, still blushing.

You smiled, equally as red, and grabbed his hand. "I'd love to, Bear," you winked at him.

You both left the building to get ready for the first day of your finally satisfied life.
