lovey dovey
“I used to hear Hola! and jump—Oh, gosh, I’m not racist or anything, I voted—“ Ashley adjusts her monogrammed scarf, looking at him with her new face. It’s the same, but different. Tighter, brighter, when her eyes widen her brows don’t raise and when she pouts her chin doesn’t dimple.
“Ashley.” Leon interrupts to get her back on track before it gets any worse.
D.C. does its best to dampen his mood, torrential rain soaking him to the bone, but you’re wearing these tiny winter booties that make his day a little better.
“I just bet, I mean I know Leon never tells you anything about Spain, or anything at all.” She waves her hands in a flourish, not a hair out of place. “I signed an NDA, I don’t know how long they last, but I’m sure it must be over by now, I don’t really believe in them to be honest–What is a piece of paper going to do? I mean, it’s not like the piece of paper knows who I’m telling.”
“She’s too little to know,” Leon says out of instinct. He takes the role of Daddy very seriously these days.
“Leon.“ You frown at him, it’s so cute he’ll think about it for hours.
“Sorry.” Is all he can come up with.
“Anyways, I wanted to ask about plans,” Ashley says, the exchange going unheard by her.
(If she’s not talking she doesn’t really seem to care about the conversation at hand.)
“Plans?” Leon doesn’t follow, and neither do you.
“Oh, you know.” She dabs at the corner of her lip with a handkerchief that matches her scarf, her lipstick leaves a pink smear on the edge of her cup. It’s heart-shaped. Fucking Cupid over here. “Haven’t you ever thought about babies, Leon? You’re pretty old now.”
That’s not her card to play. Shouldn’t he be asking her about babies? She’s only getting older, not many eggs left in her basket. But, y’know, that’s not very PC, and Leon really isn’t that bad. He’d like nothing more than for her to move at her own pace - it was hard enough seeing Sherry grow up, passing her off to a guy nearly ten years younger than her—And Leon is in no place to talk about age gaps, but guys are immature and stupid, he would know.
“Ashley,” he interrupts once more, though he has nothing to say at all. Marriage. Babies. Jesus Christ, you are the baby. He’s got jackets older than you.
“We haven’t thought about it—I mean, I ask him about it sometimes, but nothing serious,” you tell her honestly, the corners of your mouth drooping downwards in a frown.
You are one unhappy little girl and he is in for one hell of a ride back home.
“I never make plans that far ahead,” he says, rehearsed, before your soured mood runs off the edges of your face and into the rest of the room. Distemper in a dogfighting ring.
“Hm.” You make a noise beside him, knee bumping his under the table. It’s a touchy subject. An untouchable subject, actually, because he refuses to sit down and talk about it, he shuts it down immediately. You can’t make babies with a baby, that’s just plain wrong.
(But you can fuck said baby every which way. You can spit in the baby’s mouth and spank her raw. That’s perfectly normal.)
“The next time I see you, Leon, it better be at your wedding,” Ashley warns him, a burnt orange blazer draped over her slender shoulders as she primps herself up enough to face a camera or two. “I’m happy to help with, well, with everything, I have a lot of time and money to waste so don’t think you’re bothering me. Oh and another thing—Leon?”
“Yeah?” He shifts from foot to foot, the arm circling your waist drops to his side limply.
“You can call me anytime, you know that, right?” She stares at him, right through him with her big brown eyes. “And you know I can see when you’ve read my texts, right?”
Leon nods stiffly, he stands there like a fucking scarecrow when she wraps her arms around his neck.
“I know,” he mumbles into perfumed hair.
When you ask him, “Why didn’t you hug her back?”
He tells you, “I didn’t want to make you jealous.”
“I don’t get jealous.” That’s right. You’re a very self-assured little girl with your head screwed on right, he can’t go around telling such obvious lies.
“Dunno, just felt weird,” Leon admits, plucking the fuzz off your sweater to keep his hands busy, “haven’t seen her in a long time.”
“That’s your fault.” You walk ahead and he knows you’re pissed.
“Yeah, I know.”
The air crackles with tension, heavy enough to shift the layout of Leon’s home a little to the left—Or maybe you really have gone and done that without telling him, taking over his world with parts of your own - it wouldn’t be anything out of the ordinary. That’s got to be some form of gaslighting. He can’t even see the TV from this angle.
“Baby?” Leon calls out.
You poke your head out of the kitchen.
“Did you move my chair to the left or am I losing it?” He shifts in his seat, moves from left to right, leans back to try and understand what has gone on.
“You’re losing it, I moved it to the right.” You wipe your wet hands on your skirt, it borders on frumpy, makes your hips look even wider. He pretends that he hasn’t ever thought about knocking you up.
“Why, baby?” You’re testing his patience, being short with him, huffing and puffing and sticking your nose in the air.
“Because it looks better, but I can’t do it when you’re home ‘cause you never get up.” Carefully, you edge towards him, skirting around the room until you find yourself in daddy’s lap.
The weight is grounding, his hands find your hips in no time, fingers dimpling the fat as he squeezes down to ease whatever is going on inside of him. “You can’t stay mad at me, baby.”
“Yes I can.”
“Who’s gonna take care of you then, hm?” Leon asks, sliding his cold hands under shirt to grope your heavy tits. He pretends that he hasn’t thought about running his fingers over your lace bra to find milky wet patches. That he hasn’t thought about you, glassy-eyed and in desperate need of daddy’s help, pushing your leaky tits against his chest and begging him, pleading with him to take on the role of dairy farmer for the day.
“I can take care of myself.” You shrug. So cold, so cute. “But you, daddy.” You kiss his nose. “Without me, you can’t even remember to take your meds.”
That’s right. You did well without him. You didn’t need a daddy until you found the right daddy. You wanted a daddy so dearly, but you can take care of yourself just fine. You can pour your own juice and you can tie your laces and fix your hair just fine, it’s just better when daddy does it for you.
“True,” Leon mumbles, he kneads your breasts contemplatively, “but it’s good to ask daddy for things, I don’t want you getting hurt doing it on your own.”
“I have bandaids.” Comes your rebuttal.
“Baby, you’re being mean.” Leon’s voice verges on a whine.
“I’m not being mean, Leon.” You let yourself melt into him, fat tits spilling through the gaps in his fingers. His hands are small and there’s too much of you to contain. “Why don’t you want to marry me?”
That’s a loaded question. One he can’t quite answer because there’s no real answer and he doesn’t really want to answer it.
“You’re too good for me.”
“Oh my goood,” you groan, rolling your eyes so hard you age backwards, and it really makes you look like a teenager—A little girl—It makes him feel like your father. Not your daddy, but your father. And hell, he’s old enough to play the part.
“What?”
“It turns me off when you say shit like that, like ohhh I’m such a old loser, I can’t even get it up, baby, why are you even with me?” You do your best Leon impression, it almost makes him smile. “You literally want everyone to feel bad for you all the time, and you know what, Leon?”
“What?” Leon says again. He’s feeling parched. Lightheaded. Sick. Psychotic. Bad. Just fucking bad. Everything gets so bad when you’re not smiling at him.
“I can’t feel bad for you if you don’t tell me what’s going on—You don’t tell anyone what’s going on so nobody feels bad for you.” You stand up, his hands are left cold and empty. “Only you feel bad for yourself, you literally sit around all day drinking and feeling shitty about sitting around and drinking—You don’t even want to do anything anymore, you didn’t even want to see Ashley today! She loves you so much, she’s your friend and you can’t even text her back because, because… Well, I don’t even know!”
“Baby—“
“You don’t go to therapy and you forget to take your meds, and, and I have to remind you all the time and—“ You take a breath, your lips moving soundlessly as you count to ten. “I don’t mind doing that for you, I like taking care of you and I like when you take care of me—It makes me happy that you let me y’know do that…” You gesture to a stray pacifier on the coffee table. “And I love you, Leon, but it’s just like you never want to fix anything, you just want to stay like this and I don’t want that, Leon—“
“Babe–“
”I told you that I wanted to get married, I told you that it would be a problem for me if you didn’t want kids, Leon—I don’t want to be with you if you don’t want that with me, I told you that before we got serious and you said yes and now—“ You throw your hands in the air, cutting yourself off with a half-aborted sob and splitting his heart right down the middle.
“It’s not like that, baby,” Leon starts gently, pushing up out of his armchair so he can hold you like you need to be held, “I didn’t… It’s not you, you know that don’t you? You’re perfect, you’re a good girl, it’s just…”
“What?” You press your face into his chest, searching for comfort as you run your hands over his back. “It’s what?”
“It’s me.”
“Oh my god, Leon.” Your voice breaks, and you look up at him. For a minute it’s like you’re in soft-focus, like you’re a love letter gone yellow with time, sepia-stained and unspeakably tender and—and the reel is burning away because you’re too beautiful to last forever. You’re the most fragile little package, stamped to handle with care and he’s tossed you onto someone's lawn and you’re going to be plucked away by a porch pirate and—God, he’s such a fuck-up. “I can’t believe you just said that to me.”
Might be cliche, but it’s true. It’s him, not you. It’s always him. It’s why he’s been alone for so long. It’s not work, it’s not what happened in Spain or Talk Oaks, not even Raccoon City—Not mom, not dad, not Ada or Jack or Ashley or the fucking President, it’s not some grand, tragic circumstance—It’s just him.
“If I marry you…” Leon’s mouth dries up while he flicks through a mental Rolodex of excuses.
I drink too much. I’m depressed and probably bipolar. I’m infertile. You’re a baby, I can’t have babies with a baby. You’re too young. I’m too old. Especially for kids. I look like I could be your dad. I’m suicidal and needy and if we have kids what if you like them more than me? I work a lot. What if I put our kids in danger? What if I put you in danger? What if I’m a shit dad? What if you stop liking me after we tie the knot? You’re so young, you have your whole life ahead of you and you want to marry an old man? You should leave me for someone younger. Please don’t leave me.
All of it is true, although none of it is an honest answer to your question—The answer is quite simple really—Leon won’t marry you because he refuses to be happy.
“If I marry you,” he says again, eyes flickering from your eyes to your pout, “what will Sherry think?”
Your hands are in tight fists by your sides, bottom
lip trembling as you struggle to remain impassive—And he knows you like the back of his hand, like the veins in his dick—That wrinkled nose could only mean one thing. You’re not about to cry, you’re mad at him.
“Leon.” Your jaw tightens, grinding your teeth into a fine powder. “You know Sherry isn’t thinking about you, right?”
“How could you say that?” He asks, somewhere between hurt and confused.
“I’m just… Like, fuck, Leon!” You angle your face away from him, cycling through every stage of grief as you gather your thoughts. “It’s not about what Sherry wants or what she’s thinking or whatever, it’s about what I want and what you want.”
“But—“
“She isn't a part of our relationship, Leon, nobody is.” You tilt your head back, looking up at the ceiling and squeezing your eyes shut. Praying or doing a breathing exercise. “Like… Like you don’t like Jake and she still married him because he makes her happy, Leon—Why don’t you want to be happy with me, Leon?”
“I am happy,” he lies.
“Don’t lie to me, Leon—Do I not make you happy, is that what it is?” You look at him helplessly and he stands there with nothing to say.
“You do make me happy,” Leon insists softly, you’re the only thing that makes him happy. Light of his life, apple of his eye, the centre of his whole entire world.
“I just don’t get it anymore, Leon.”
Oh, god.
“I don’t… I made it clear that I wanted something serious, I want to marry you and I want to have kids with you—I don’t get why you would lead on me like that.” You cross your arms over your chest, bracing for his answer. “Has all of this been for nothing?”
To be entirely frank - Leon is being selfish.
He’d rather keep you in limbo than let you move on with someone else. He doesn’t want to think about you in bed with someone else, calling someone else daddy, letting them touch you and take care of you—It makes him dizzy, he’s getting jealous of a guy he made up in his fucking head. You’re the only good thing in his piece of shit life and he has no intention of letting you go—He really should, and he probably would if you asked him a year ago, before the D word but now—
Leon feels out of place.
If he’s not your daddy, then who is he?
“You’re just… You’re just freaking out ‘cause Ashley put it in your head,” Leon retorts childishly, “we don’t need a baby to be happy.” You’re the only baby he needs to be happy.
“Are you kidding, Leon?” Your nose is running and you wipe at your face with balled up fists. “Don’t make this about Ashley, you know that isn’t the problem—I really can’t believe you, if you're not serious about me then why are you still with me?”
Truthfully, he didn’t mean for all of this to go so far - then your toothbrush joined his, your Sylvanians found a nice spot on his mantle next to the potpourri, the whole daddy thing happened—
And all of that means that this is not a midlife crisis or a fling or a distraction.
It means that you’re his girlfriend, the woman he loves.
“I am serious about you.”
We just want different things, would be the right way to put it. It’s not entirely true, but Leon doesn’t know how to tell you that peace is unrecognisable to him. He doesn’t know what it feels like, it scares him, the finality of marriage and kids and all of these childish dreams he had so long ago—It’s scary, and it takes a lot and Leon could shoulder the whole fucking world if he had to and the whole fucking world is a lot. He’s done it before. Jesus Christ, he’s fought creatures that go beyond the scope of human understanding, but all of it comes to an end. Fights end. Missions get completed. Damsels are saved and monsters are slain and Leon gets home okay as he can be.
But this… Marriage. There’s no way out—Like, there’s divorce, obviously, but something about marriage is permanent. He can’t shoot a gun and get out of a marital dispute, and he can’t outrun a missed birthday because ultimately he has to come home to you.
Coming home to you sounds good. It is good. It’s the reason he bothers coming home after work instead of bumming around in bars like he used to. But, but, but it’s about trust and working together and while nothing will really change you’ll legally own him and he’ll legally be yours and that’s a lot of responsibility for someone so young to take on and technically you’re already doing all of these responsible things for him and—Marriage is just different, okay?
“I don’t think you are, Leon.” You blink at him slowly, sadly.
“I am,” Leon insists because he is serious about this. About you. He loves you and he knows that, but he’s fine with what you have now. Girlfriend-Boyfriend. Daddy and baby. “I am, baby, but don’t you think that we're moving into this too fast?”
“It’s been two years, Leon.” Another slow, sad blink, you look off to the side. “I told you I was dating to marry, Leon, I told you what I wanted, I want kids with you—And I’m sorry but you’re not getting any younger, if you’re just wasting my time—“
Something sharp and ugly takes hold of his chest. ”You just think I’m gonna blow my brains out before I give you a baby, that's all you want from me.” That isn’t what Leon wanted to say, but the room is getting too small and that struck a fucking nerve.
“Excuse me?”
Oh fuck. Fuck. Fuck. Fuck. A rotten sole-crushed peach, that's all he is, it’s true. And he doesn’t deserve you, but he doubles down selfishly. “You think I’m gonna blow my brains out before I give you a kid,” he repeats, “that’s why you’re freaking out about this now.” Leon’s so very talented at fucking things up. Paperwork, his liver, his entire fucking life.
“No… That’s not—Are you kidding me? Is that all you got from this, Leon?” You’re looking at him with these accusatory eyes and you’re not calling him daddy or tugging at the back of his shirt for attention. “How could you say that about me? Is that what you think of me?”
Leon would like to say no and he’d like to apologise, instead he fumes silently, teeth clenched so tightly they’ve started to ache. “C’mon, use your big girl words and tell me the truth.” He’s not very tall, but he’s taller than you - he looks down his nose at you.
“Don’t talk to me like that, Leon.” The shift in his behaviour is new, you’re used to his self-loathing, his laziness and reluctance and his general unlikeability, but this—Leon has never been mad at you, and he doesn’t want to be mad at you and he’s more mad at himself than he is you—But still, like, he looks mad at you and he can see the way you’re trembling, puffing out your chest and standing your ground to appear so much bigger than you are. It breaks his heart, he’s the worst daddy ever. The most dick-headed jerk of a boyfriend and you’re still here. Fighting for him, well, with him, you’re here and you’re fighting with him, that’s still something.
“Why not?” Leon tilts his head to the side, his face softening in faux confusion. “You like it so much, don’t you?”
God, maybe he’s not so normal after all, and you haven’t fixed him, and bad thoughts always come back, and if he was normal he wouldn’t be wanting to jump off every balcony and walk into every main road and disappear into bodies of water.
Leon isn’t normal. Big surprise.
He’s just starting to realise that it doesn’t matter how many people love him, it doesn’t matter how many medals he’s awarded, it doesn’t matter that he’s a treasure to some degree, an old gun worth keeping—None of it matters, Leon realises, none of it will ever fucking matter because he is who he is.
Leon is going to lead a miserable dogshit life because he can and he will and it doesn’t matter how many good or bad things happen to him, it doesn’t matter who he falls asleep next to - he’ll still feel shitty in the morning.
(At the end of the day, he’s a Kennedy, and no Kennedy has ever been particularly lucky.)
“I’m trying to be serious, Leon, and you’re acting like a child!” Your bottom lip quivers, and you’re probably wondering where your daddy has gone. “I can’t… I can’t believe you’re talking to me like that right now.”
Neither can Leon.
Guilt coils in his gut like a snake, constricting and hissing in the back of his head that he should know better, he’s so much older, he’s your daddy, and he’s meant to take care of you. That’s what daddies are for.
“I don’t want to… I don’t want to force you into this, Leon, I don’t want to make you marry me if you don’t want me—“ He does want you. He wants you so bad. “—I don’t want to force you to have kids with me if you’re not ready, I just wish you had told me before I moved in with you—“ The hurt that crosses your face strikes him right in the heart, teardrops beading your gossamer lashes.
“No, no, no, I’m sorry, baby,” he says softly, quietly, earnestly, not daring to take a step closer because he doesn’t deserve to feel you or smell you or touch you, “I want to be with you, I love you.”
“I don’t know anymore, Leon.” You look to him helplessly, blinking up at him with these big doleful eyes. “I don’t know what you want me to do.”
“I’m sorry, baby,” he says, equally as helpless, “I don’t know.”
He’s your daddy, he’s meant to know, but he doesn’t, so he just stands there like an idiot.
“I’m sad,” you tell him honestly, “I’m going to go upstairs now.”
Leon goes to follow you.
“Don't follow me.”
Leon goes back to standing there like a fucking idiot.

best friend!ino is such a desperate loser for you, and he’s hardly ashamed of it. always at your beck and call and ready to serve—need a wedding date? he’s buying a suit. need a night off? he’ll finish up any paperwork you’ve got to do. need to destress after a long day? use him like a sex toy until you’re satisfied.
you thought he was joking when he first offered. but you were pent up and he was looking you straight in the eyes and asking—no, begging—to be used by you. takuma, you realised very quickly, will do anything to please you.
and he loves knowing he’s making you feel good. with you laid out on clean sheets, his hair tickling the insides of your thighs as he makes out with your pussy like he’s in love with it, which he is. moans as he eats you out, watching you through his lashes for any sign that you’re enjoying the way his tongue feels lapping at your clit.
he’s messy, strings of spit connecting him to you as he pulls back to tell you just how perfect you are. so he can watch his fingers plunge into you, curl upwards and bring you to orgasm. he never makes you wait, never makes you beg—he’d rather die than deny you anything.
and if you let him fuck you, feel you from the inside out, he’s just as eager to please. lets you ride him, control the pace and timing and keep him in check because he gets overexcited and too rough and fast sometimes. he can’t help it, though, you make him restless.
how good you feel wrapped around his aching cock, tip red and sore and desperate to fill you up with him cum. he has to do anything to keep himself from cumming—anything to hold out long enough for you to use him to his full potential. god he wants to be good for you, he’ll bite his lip and do math in his head and think about anything but the way you sink down on him and move your hips in painfully slow rolling waves of melting lust and—
he doesn’t realise you want him to come undone until he’s emptying his balls inside of you with teary eyes and choked apologies. your smile, though, tells him that you’ve been given exactly what you want. because when you kiss his forehead and push him back down into the mattress, takuma is met with another roll of your hips and the dawning realisation that you’re going to overstimulate his poor cock until you’re bored of the way he fills you so fucking deep it hurts.
he can take it, though. even if he can’t—he will. anything to make you feel good.

hard times ❀ s. reid x reader
in which spencer reid doesn’t follow through one time, and you really hate that he has a psychology degree.
pairing: spencer reid x fem!reader genre: hurt/comfort tags: daddy issues. shoutout to the girls with inconsistent fathers this ones for you. established relationship. readers mentioned wearing makeup, a dress and heels. rational bf!spencer reid fuck i would hate a profiler bf. word count: 1.8k a/n: not a trauma dump fic not a vent fic do not read into this fic at all don't even start to speculate on my life and where these emotions came from they're all fake made up not real make pretend. no photos no aesthetics just me, a tumblr account, and a dream for this baddie.
In all your months of dating Spencer Reid, he had never forgotten anything. Not a date, not a work event. Or, at least, he's never forgotten to call. Even when you had been so busy one week you could barely spare him more than a ten minute phone call a day, he remembered what was going on in your life enough to be there for you.
A false blanket of security draped over your relationship, is what it is now.
A blanket he seemingly had no trouble ripping off you a random Friday evening, throwing it in a fire and watching it — and your trust in him — burn into dust.
Perhaps a tad dramatic for what was happening, but you were always one for theatrics when it came to your emotions. Usually, he welcomed it. He was (abashedly) similar, after all.
Not that he was even here to welcome it.
You'd looked pretty. You'd felt pretty. Past tense, for your shoes were strewn somewhere across the floor after throwing them in frustration, and your makeup was ruined after unwelcome tears had streamed down your face an hour ago. You had been ready for a dinner date you and Spencer had scheduled in only three days ago — penciled in, for you never knew what his work schedule was going to end up being.
You're not sure how long you sat in that one spot on the couch, mind going through every single possible scenario that could've happened between the text he sent you that morning saying he was excited to go out tonight, and the lack of his appearance this evening.
The logical conclusion is that he got too busy, and he forgot. But Spencer Reid's whole thing is that he doesn't forget. Oftentimes he considers it a curse. You never really agreed with him. Until now, it seemed.
The less than logical, emotionally driven conclusion, is that he actively chose to stay at work to avoid coming home because he didn't want to see you. Or he didn't actually want to go to dinner, and he didn't know how to tell you. Or his team offered to go out and he'd rather hang out with them instead of you.
Really, the reasons are endless, and any rational conclusion was lost on you. Mind swallowing you whole as you continued to stare off into space, visibly shaking and head beginning to pound from the crying.
A glance at the clock told you it was near midnight by the time you heard the door handle rattle and twist open, tired, puffy eyes blinking to adjust to the light filtering in from the apartment hallway.
"Hey. Why're you out here? It's late. I thought you'd already be in bed," Spencer rambles absentmindedly, voice so disconnected from you it only made the ache in your chest worse. As he flicks the light on and assesses the state of the apartment, he asks, "What're your shoes doing on the floor?"
You blink a few times. Was he pretending to be dumb on purpose?
You stand on cramped legs, stretching them for the first time since you'd sat unknowingly on the couch nearly six hours ago, dress bunching around your waist. You didn't bother to fix it.
Like a switch, he clicks, his bag sliding off his shoulder and falling to the floor with a thud, realisation settling into his features.
"Our date. Oh, God, I'm so sorry, angel."
"Yeah. I'm sure," you croak, voice hoarse as you pick up your shoes pathetically in front of him, the heels clacking together as you walk towards your bedroom door.
He calls your name, and after you make no effort to return to him, you hear his feet against the wooden flooring, carrying himself to you.
You're in the ensuite, beginning to take makeup off you probably should've removed four hours ago. It was stupid hope you held on to, anyways.
"You're upset. I know. It was awful of me to forget our date," he stands in the doorway, staring at you through the mirror. Even indirectly, you can't make eye contact with him.
"You forgot," you repeat back to him, almost dumbfounded. "You forgot?"
"Forgot isn't... the best word," his fingers dig into his eyes for a split second, and you watch him think. "I got caught up at work. We had a case, then we didn't have a case, then we did, so we started looking into it, and time just... escaped. From all of us."
"Time just escaped."
Your parroting wasn't doing much to further the conversation, and you watch as Spencer averts his gaze to the floor to take a deep breath, before his eyes land back on you again.
"It isn't the best reason, I know. But it's the truth," he says.
"Uh-huh," you mumble, discarding your cotton pads stained with your makeup into the trash.
"Can you stop being evasive?" he catches your wrist before you can return to the sink. "Talk to me."
"What do you want me to say?" you ask, almost earnestly. "It's okay that you forgot, Spencer. I won't take it personally at all, and things between us are just dandy!"
"I want to know what you're actually feeling," he replies, voice flat with his irritation, before he forces himself to soften it. "I can't reassure you if all I know is that you're angry."
"Hurt. Forgotten. Disregarded. Disliked. Irritated we're doing this in our fucking bathroom."
At that, he leads you into the bedroom, turning the ensuite light off. "Forgotten and disregarded are synonyms, so I'm assuming that's what you feel the most."
"You're the psyche expert," you mumble, bitterly.
"I'm not trying to be your psyche expert," he quips, and your heart sinks. "Why're you feeling forgotten?"
You stare at him, dumbfounded, for a beat. "Because my boyfriend quite literally forgot about me?"
"I didn't forget about you—"
"—No, you're right. You just forgot about the date that you literally fucking texted me about this morning!" you snap, voice rising in a way that makes you cringe. Yet, you can't stop it. "You! Spencer Reid! Forgot!"
"Don't yell at me, please," he takes a step towards you; you take a step back.
"Why did you forget? Did you choose to? Are you pretending that you forgot about it all to save your ass?"
"No," he pinches the bridge of his nose. "I didn't. I told you what happened. You're choosing not to believe me."
"How am I meant to believe that? It's a shit excuse—"
"—It's the truth—"
"—God, you can lie, Spencer! Men lie!"
He goes silent, as do you. You become trapped in an uncomfortably intense staring contest with him, as you watch his brain slowly tick over and decipher what you were saying, and come up with a response. Yours, however, splits open with your own self hatred. Disdain for what you had just said to him.
"Okay," he exhales, very slowly. "I'm going to tell you what I think, and you can tell me how right I am."
"You're going to profile me?"
He pauses. "I'm sure it'll come off that way. I'm not trying to," when you don't protest again, he continues. "I think you're less upset about the fact that I didn't come home for a date, and more about the fact that I didn't message you about it. I've not shown up for dates before. I've always contacted you prior to let you know. And I've promised I would always contact you if something came up that interfered with our plans. Ultimately, I said I would do something, and I didn't follow through. That is on me, and I'm sorry. What isn't on me, is how you're reacting. Which is childish, honey. You're acting like a petulant child, and I don't mean that as an insult, because I'm almost certain I know why."
Your silence is his cue to continue, but he pauses to collect his thoughts. Your lower lip is beginning to wobble, and he feels awful.
"You know how our childhoods affect us," he says, and the second what he's about to say to you clicks in your brain, your teeth clamp over your lip, and your eyes drop to the ground. "Reactions from parents to things we do, things others do, things they do, all builds up in our subconscious. Having a parent who didn't show up for you time and time again, built up in your subconscious. So yes, you're reacting to me not following through with something childishly. I will not take that back. But that reaction is not your fault. It's in response to a trigger, and the person in control of that emotional response is not adult you. It's the little girl who got let down by her father. I won't ever hold that against you."
Your sniffle breaks the deafening silence that follows his tangent. You allow him to envelop you into a hug, at which you break down into a fit of sobs akin to the ones from earlier.
"I hate you," you stutter out in between sobs, voice muffled by his chest.
"You can't say that while hugging me," he counters. It was true, as your hands had wrapped around his waist just seconds ago.
"I hate you," you repeat, punctuating your words with a poke to his back.
"I love you," he replies, instead. His fingers thread through your hair as he cradles your head with his other hand. "I'm sorry I didn't contact you about being busy."
You swallow the lodged sob in your throat with a hiccup. "I'm sorry I acted like a petulant child. And I'm sorry that my dad sucks."
"I'm sorry your dad sucks too," you feel him kiss the top of your head. "Have you eaten?"
"Mm-mm," you shake your head, and he pulls back, hands slipping down to your cheeks, catching the tears.
"Do you want to eat?"
"The restaurant we were going to is closed," you mumble.
"Maybe. But the Thai place isn't."
"I'm pretty sure it is," you counter, and his eyebrows furrow. "It's past midnight now."
His face falls, he waits a beat, before his hand drops to your own, and he's tugging you towards the door of the bedroom. "Okay. Fine. Well, the Spencer Reid Kitchen is never closed."
"I asked for pasta last night and you said the kitchen was closed."
"You asked at three in the morning," he deadpans, as you make yourself comfortable on one of the stools.
"The Spencer Reid Kitchen is never closed," you mock his voice from earlier.
"The Spencer Reid Kitchen rules are made by Spencer Reid."
"The rules should be lenient of Spencer Reid's girlfriend."
"Do you want pasta or not?"
"Yes," you quickly say with a firm nod. "Sorry."
He spends the first hour of that Saturday making you pasta; and making up the missed date.
your reblogs and replies are always appreciated ♡

You Always Come First
(No matter how upset I am)
Zayne x Reader
summary: you and zayne have a small spat over you neglecting your health. as a result of it, you decide to sleep on the couch, not wanting to bother/upset him even further. randomly waking up in the night, you notice you’re no longer alone on the couch and do everything you can to get the doctor back in bed before he’s sore for his shift tomorrow.
tags: not proofread!, hurt/comfort? (i didn’t rlly include the hurt part of it so im not too sure), fluff, literal sleeping together, caring n sweet zayne (when is he not), self indulgent per usual
a/n: bro tumblr is REALLY testing my patience. why is it so dumb with everything i try to post. it’s literally why i haven’t posted a fic in a while. i can’t take this much longer i may crash out soon. anyway, as always hope u enjoy! (⁎˃ᴗ˂⁎)
side tangent: i actually have been so obsessed with caleb. it’s actually a problem. i have been loyal to zayne this entire time and i’ve been playing since release, but caleb is REALLY testing it. lord i’m a sucker for the protective n caring childhood friends to lovers trope (¯―¯٥) (id expect a caleb fic soon tbh if tumblr wants to stop hating me and making my life so difficult)
the fight was stupid. you were neglecting your health once again not taking your medicine, not resting, and ignoring doctors specific orders. zayne often could never say no to you, he always spoiled you and gave into any of your requests. the only time he was stern and stubborn was when it involved your health, that he doesn’t and will never budge on. you often lacked care for your health, pushing it to the back burners of your mind and often calling zayne dramatic saying “you knew yourself and your limits”. something zayne wasn’t particularly fond of. he confronted you about your recent negligence of your health and both of your stubbornness in your beliefs led to an argument.
it’s been an hour or 2 since it ended though. zayne left to your shared bedroom, most likely to do some work, while you stayed out in the living area, trying to distract yourself from the anger turning to sadness and guilt in your heart. you ended up deciding to just sleep on the couch tonight not wanting to bother him after an argument. you grabbed an extra pillow and thin blanket from a nearby closet and put on a random show so you wouldn’t have to fall asleep listening to your own thoughts. soon enough you were able to relax and fall into a slumber.
you don’t know how long it’s been since you fell asleep. you hear the tv still on as you slowly wake and become aware of your surroundings. once you can see clearly, that’s when you realize you were laying on top of zayne previously using his chest as a pillow unbeknownst to you. he has been peacefully sleeping on the couch with you for who knows how long. as you sat up in a panic you also notice a thicker, softer blanket, one you have preference for, falling off of your shoulders. instantly guilt is washed over you as you look at zayne, who is a somewhat light sleeper, somehow still deep in his sleep. you swallow quickly as you build confidence to wake him up.
you lean closer to his face which was awkwardly propped up by the couch’s arm rest, a position that you couldn’t imagine to be anywhere near comfortable. you lightly tap his shoulder and call his name trying to wake him up. soon enough he does, opening his eyes to see you staring back at him, the faintest smile appears on his face at the sight, almost forgetting of the spat you two shared earlier. before he could even say anything you scold him:
“why are you here? i was sleeping on the couch tonight. you have work early in the morning go back to bed and go to sleep.”
“couldn’t have you sore in the morning” he answers calmly releasing a small yawn in the process.
“neither can you! you have a long shift starting early tomorrow. i’ll be fine just go back to bed.” you quickly rebutted trying to push him off the couch, something that you didn’t have the strength to do, but nevertheless you persisted.
“i can get through a shift with an achy neck, however you can not.” he replies as he softly grabs your hands that are trying to shove him away back to bed.
“i know i’ll be fine. i’ll live to see another day. now go back to bed already!” you say. your voice getting louder as you’re starting to get frustrated trying to break out of his soft grasp.
“will you be joining me?” he asks softly not letting go of your wrists that keep trying to fight against him.
“no, i’m sleeping on the couch!” your voice raising above the tv still playing in the back illuminating the room.
“then it seems like i shall too” he states as he frees your wrists and pushes you back onto his chest, laying the blanket over you both.
before you can even think of a response zayne wraps his arms around your torso and closes his eyes to fall asleep once again, to which you quickly flick his chest to wake him back up. he opens his eyes again and looks down at you with an unamused expression.
“why won’t you just let me sleep here alone?” you ask in a tone he can’t quite place, nevertheless he can hear the slight amount sorrow that came along with it.
“i already told you, i can’t have you go into work tomorrow with a sore neck and back.” he says closing his eyes again despite your wishes against it.
“if you don’t wish to be with me tonight then i’ll sleep on the couch and you can take the bed” he continues. his arms involuntarily tighten ever so slightly around you showing how much he doesn’t want that.
“but i also told you!!! you can’t sleep on the couch, you have a few surgeries to complete, and you have to be in your best shape to do so.” you try to push up against his arms wrapped around you, another pointless action.
zayne sighs and opens his eyes again to look at you before speaking.
“well then you have two options. one, we both move over to the bed to sleep. or two, i sleep here and you sleep over in the room. my job isn’t physically taxing compared to yours, im not allowing you to go in if you don’t have a proper rest.”
he looks tired. you study his features before you respond to him. taking a moment to look at the eyebags under his eyes and a slight frustration growing in his face from this back and forth.
you sigh before answering “then to the bed we go”
a soft smile appears on zaynes face as he begins to get up. his neck slightly sore, but he wouldn’t reveal that to you. although it’s against your wishes, he lifts you up having you hold the blanket and pillow as he carries you back to bed.
he sets you down on your side of the bed, thinking you won’t necessarily want to be close with him tonight. not before tucking you in and kissing the top of your head whispering his love and goodnight wishes. as he gets into bed you turn to face him. once he fully lays down you scootch closer to him and grab onto the hem of his shirt. he instantly understands what you want and pulls you towards him, pressing you to his side as he wraps his arms around you.
he kisses your forehead once more and whispers
“we will continue our discussion after work tomorrow. goodnight, i love you.”
too tired to argue with him anymore you just nod your head against him replying quietly mouth squished against him making your words barely audible.
“goodnight, love you too”

teen pregnancy series - steve harrington part 1

Steve Harrington x female! reader
Main Masterlist
Teen Pregnancy Series Masterlist
Steve Harrington Masterlist
Summary:
You find yourself pregnant with your best friend Nancy’s boyfriend’s baby after a drunken mistake.
Part 2
Warnings:
Smut (18+), unprotected p in v, oral sex (f receiving), pregnancy, angst, sort of cheating but not really
Word Count: 11.7k
A/N:
I have worked SO HARD on this fic y’all. I really wanted to post the whole thing (27k words) but tumblr wouldn’t let me. So here we have part 1! Part 2 will be out tomorrow! I also want to give a big shoutout to my bestie @punkrockmlchael for the banner and for my friends and beta readers @glassbxttless @lesservillain @fizzing-imagines @the-witty-pen-name!
‘King’ Steve Harrington never paid any attention to you until he started dating your best friend, Nancy Wheeler. It had been a surprise when he asked her out - you, Nancy, and Barb had been quiet and stayed off to yourselves. You were a tight knit friend group, but certainly not popular. So when Steve asked Nancy out, you and Barb had been skeptical.
“Are you sure he has the best intentions?” Barb asked. “Because it’s Steve Harrington. He goes through girls like crazy.”
“Agreed,” you added. “I’m suspicious.”
“Guys, he’s actually really nice!” Nancy always defended him. “And it’s not even that serious. We just made out once…or twice.”
You and Barb exchanged a look. You didn’t really believe Steve had changed. You feared your best friend was going to get her heart broken, badly.
“What do you guys have in common anyway?” Barb asked. “He’s not, you know…exactly an honor student.”
“Barb!” Nancy scolded with a laugh. “He’s actually really sweet and funny. And a good kisser.”
You and Barb got lost in a fit of giggles at that. It was the first time any of you were having any kind of experience with a guy. The three of you were always overlooked by the guys of Hawkins High, but you didn’t really mind. There were more important things than high school relationships. It was a little exciting, though.
“So is he your boyfriend yet?” You asked, a teasing smile on your face.
“No,” Nancy said, blushing. “I don’t know if he-“
You were all surprised when Steve came seemingly out of nowhere, wrapping his arms around Nancy and making her squeal as he lifted her off the ground. It was sickeningly sweet.
“Steve!” She mock scolded him as he sat her down, and she playfully slapped his chest.
“What? I haven’t seen you in forever,” Steve said, suave grin on his handsome face.
“It’s been like 2 hours,” Nancy laughed.
“Tell me about it,” Steve said, pulling her in for a kiss. You and Barb looked away, feeling awkward.
Finally Steve acknowledged the two of you, giving you both a polite smile. “Sorry. Can I steal Nance for a few?”
Before either of you could say anything, Steve was leading a giggling Nancy away, leaving you and Barb alone.
“I just hope she doesn’t forget about us,” Barb said.
—
“Steve wants us to go to Tina’s halloween party,” Nancy said at her locker before lunch. You and Barb exchanged a look.
“All of us?” You asked, skeptically.
“Yes, all of us,” Nancy said, attempting to reassure you both. “I wouldn’t want to go at all if you guys couldn’t come.”
“It’s not exactly…our scene,” Barb said. Her brows were furrowed as she pushed her glasses higher on her nose. “I don’t know if they really want us there, Nance.”
“Who cares?” Nancy said. “We should just go and be stupid teenagers and have fun for once.”
It took some convincing, Barb more than you, but finally you agreed to go together. You picked out a costume - a short, sexy red dress with devil horns on your head. You thought about someone maybe being interested in you at the party - you had to admit to yourself that you were a little jealous of Nancy’s relationship with Steve. It got lonely, sometimes.
Steve was picking all three of you up. Your house was the first on the way, so he picked you up first. You felt nervous as you walked down the driveway and got into the passenger seat of Steve’s car.
“Hey,” he greeted you, giving you his usual charming smile. You definitely understood what Nancy saw in him - Steve was handsome. “You look great.”
“You too,” you said, and he did. He and Nancy had gone with a couples costume - Risky Business - and he looked very good. He had a pair of sunglasses stuck in the front of his black shirt.
You mostly rode in silence on the way to the Wheeler’s house, Steve’s radio playing softly in the background. When Nancy came walking out of the house, Steve’s face lit up, and something in you sunk as you climbed out to slide into the back seat.
You felt a little better when you picked up Barb and she joined you in the back, making you feel less like an awkward third wheel. She was dressed like a librarian, which was honestly very normal for her.
The party was already in full swing when you arrived. You and Barb trailed behind Steve and Nancy into the house, following them straight to the punch bowl. Steve made a drink for all three of you. Barb took a tiny sip of hers, making a face. You tried yours, but it wasn’t too bad. Strong, though.
The party was less painful than you’d feared. You mostly stayed off to the side with Barb, drinking on your own. You watched the partygoers dance together, including Steve and Nancy, and you longed to join them. But you couldn’t bring yourself to.
At some point you lost your friends, leaving you standing in the kitchen alone. Nancy and Steve had disappeared into a bathroom, Nancy wiping at a big red punch stain on the front of her shirt. You’d watched them go, wondering what happened between them.
You continued sipping at your drink, watching the party rage on around you. The alcohol was making you less self conscious and more loose, but you still couldn’t bring yourself to join in. You wished you could. You wondered what it would like to be popular, or even to just be a normal teenage girl.
It wasn’t long before you spotted Nancy again, drunk as hell and angry.
“Where are you going?” You asked her as she drunkenly stormed through the party with Jonathan Byers and Barb trailing behind her.
“Home,” she slurred, stumbling over her own feet. You were too drunk to properly question it, simply watching as she left with Jonathan and Barb in tow. Jonathan seemed sober, at least. No one asked you if you wanted a ride, too. You figured you would ‘enjoy’ the party a little longer, figure out how you were getting home later.
You turned around and walked right into Steve Harrington.
“Sorry,” he mumbled, looking way more upset than the last time you’d seen him. He looked like he might have been crying, his eyes red rimmed.
“Hey, what’s wrong?” You asked, looking him over with concern.
He shook his head. “Nothing. It’s…it’s nothing.”
“Doesn’t seem like nothing,” you said softly. “Do you want to talk about it?”
Steve considered your offer. He didn’t know if he wanted to talk about Nancy right now, but getting back to the party didn’t sound like much fun either. He also didn’t really want to go home and be alone. “Sure. Okay.”
That’s how you ended up alone in a bedroom with Steve, sitting awkwardly next to each other on Tina’s parents’ bed. Steve sighed, rubbing his hands on his thighs.
“Me and Nancy…I don’t know,” he started, like he couldn’t find his words. “I know she’s your best friend. I’m not trying to say anything bad about her. I love her. But I think we might be over.”
“Why do you think that?” You asked softly. You knew Nancy really liked Steve. This was their first real argument, and it seems like it was a big one.
“She just…” he sighed again. “She said we’re bullshit. What does that even mean? That she doesn’t love me?”
“I don’t think that’s true,” you said. “Nancy really cares about you-“
“But does she love me?” He gestured with his hand then let it flop onto his lap in defeat. “I don’t know. I don’t think she does. I don’t know why she would.”
“What do you mean?” You furrowed your brows at him. “Why wouldn’t she?”
“Because I’m…” He gestured again, like he didn’t know how to articulate what he was trying to say. “I’m me. I’m an asshole. I’m dumb. I care too much about being popular. She’s too good for me.”
“Steve, that’s not true,” you said, laying your hand over his. “You’re an incredible person. I mean, sure you have a reputation, but since you’ve dated Nancy I’ve gotten to see some of the real you, and…I like the real Steve.”
He slowly looked up at you. “You do?”
“Yeah, of course I do.” You smiled gently. “I like the real Steve a lot.”
Steve’s eyes searched yours. His gaze darted down to your lips for only a second before meeting your eyes again. Then he leaned in, pressing his lips to yours.
You were shocked at first, your eyes going wide. But you quickly melted into his kiss - it felt so right. Steve moaned against your lips as he deepened the kiss and you grabbed onto his shirt, pulling him closer to you. The kiss turned heated fast, Steve’s tongue slipping into your mouth and pressing against your own. Your tongues danced together in a sloppy rhythm, your kisses hungry and desperate for one another.
His hands trailed under your dress, feeling the smooth skin of your plush thighs, one hand sliding between your legs to tease you through your panties. You gasped - you’d never been touched there before. It was new, exciting. You were wet already, and Steve could feel it.
“Wet for me?” He mumbled against your lips, nipping at your bottom lip and making you gasp. “I can feel you.”
You blushed deeply, feeling ashamed. What if he didn’t like it? What if he thought it was gross?
He didn’t seem like he thought it was gross. He seemed like he liked it. He pressed against something that had you moaning against his mouth, your grip on his shirt tightening.
“Have you ever been touched before?” He asked, hand slipping beneath your panties. His fingers traced between your folds, collecting your wetness on his fingers before he started rubbing against that bundle of nerves again.
“No,” you admitted, your voice shaky. “Never.”
“I’ll be gentle,” he promised. “You’re so pretty, you know that?”
You didn’t know that. No guy had ever said that to you before. You thankfully didn’t have to say anything because Steve pressed his lips to yours again, kissing any words away. It felt weird to have his tongue pressing against your own, the way his hands grabbed at you, like he wanted you.
“Can I take this off?” He asked quietly, pulling at your red dress. You heart thundered in your chest, wondering what was going to happen, if you were really about to lose your virginity to Steve Harrington. Who was your best friend’s boyfriend - or, used to be.
You nodded, and Steve smiled, pushing you back onto the bed. He climbed over you, slowly kissing from your legs upwards as he pushed the dress higher and higher. You were shaking, nervous even through the haze of the alcohol. But his touch was so nice, it felt so good, you wanted to keep going.
He pushed the dress over your head until you were left in nothing but your bra and panties, suddenly horrifically self conscious. You crossed your arms over your body on instinct.
Steve gently grabbed your arms, moving them down. “You’re beautiful,” he said. “You don’t have to hide from me. I love your body.”
He sat up then, removing his shirt. His chest was muscular, and he had a lot of chest hair. It was hot, manly. You rubbed over his chest, feeling the ridges of his muscles, the skin beneath your touch. He shivered on instinct, a low moan coming from his lips.
You could feel how hard he was from where he was pressed against your thigh. He grinded against you, moaning, and you felt scared - he seemed big. You didn’t know how you were going to take him - you’d never taken anybody before, and Steve seemed like an advanced place to start.
He reached behind your back and unhooked your bra, removing it completely. His lips found your nipple right away and you let out a mix between a gasp and a moan - it was unexpected and new, but it felt good. Steve sucked on it, running his tongue around it, making you arch your back into his mouth. His hand played with your other nipple until he switched, giving them both attention.
When he was done, he kissed down your chest and stomach, back down to your panties. He hooked his fingers in the waistband, looking up at you. “Can I?”
You looked at him. “Can you what?”
Steve chuckled. “Taste you?”
You didn’t really know what he meant by that. “Um, sure?”
Steve smiled at you, then he pulled your panties down your legs. You felt infinitely more exposed now - no one had ever seen you there before. There were a lot of firsts tonight. Steve spread your legs, and you would have been embarrassed if he hadn’t groaned at the sight.
He lowered himself between your legs, and you gasped loudly when you felt Steve’s tongue between your folds. He groaned again as he began to devour you, sucking at your clit and running his tongue over it.
The feeling was like nothing you’d ever experienced in your life. You moaned uncontrollably, hands shooting down to tangle in Steve’s hair. He moaned against your pussy as he ate you, loving every moment of it.
Steve was grinding his hips against the bed, his cock rock hard and aching beneath his pants. He lapped up every bit of wetness you gave him, you were the sweetest thing he’d ever tasted.
“Christ,” he moaned against you, truly burying his face into you and breathing in your scent. “You taste so good. I can’t get enough.”
You were losing your mind. Pitchy moans spilling from your lips, body writhing on the bed. Whatever he was doing was incredible, it made your body feel like it was full of electricity, a coil tightening deep in your belly.
“Steve…Steve…” you moaned, pulling on his locks. You started grinding yourself against his face, desperate for more more more, desperate for him to never stop. You thought you might die if he did.
You felt something pressing against your entrance, making you jump. “What…what are you…?”
“Jus’ getting you ready,” he hummed against you. “‘s okay?”
You were too out of it to think much about it. “Um…yes.”
You gasped loudly at the intrusion of his finger pressing inside you. You’d never even done this to yourself before, the feeling completely foreign. Weird, but good. He slowly pumped his finger in and out of you, you were so wet there was hardly any resistance.
You were so lost in the pleasure he was giving you that you barely noticed when he began pushing a second finger inside. But suddenly you were even more full, his fingers curling deep inside you and pressing against something that had you moaning his name even louder.
“Steve! Oh, fuck-“
“That’s it,” he moaned against you, “just like that. You gonna cum for me?”
You whined in response, shaking hand tightening in his hair. He chuckled, moving back to suck on your clit again and sending you reeling. He pumped his fingers faster and faster, your back arching off the bed as your vision began going white.
“Oh, god- fuck! Steve, ohmygod, holy shit-“
Steve put his all into it as your orgasm hit you, working you through the most mind blowing experience of your life. How was he so good? You felt like you’d died and gone to heaven.
“That’s it, baby, cum f’me,” he encouraged you, but as the orgasm intensified you began grinding against his tongue, shutting him up happily. He moaned against you, sending vibrations through your clit.
He rode you through it until you couldn’t take it anymore, until you were pushing him away and he was grinning with the confidence only King Steve could possess. You suddenly understood the nickname.
He kissed up your body, working his way back up to your lips. He quickly undid his pants, shoving them and his boxers down his legs. You were right - he was huge. He wrapped a hand around his massive cock, slowly stroking it as he looked down at your body.
“Fuckin’ beautiful,” he slurred, and he wobbled a bit as he sat up on his knees. The room felt like it was tilting back and forth, like you were on a boat. It was not helping the nausea building in your stomach.
Steve spread your legs, settling himself between them. He grinded his cock through your folds, coating it in your wetness as he nipped and sucked at your neck. “Y’ready?”
“Uh…yeah,” you said, holding onto Steve’s shoulders. It made you feel safer somehow.
His thick tip pressed against your entrance, and you let out a loud gasp as he pushed through, stretching you around his cock. Your nails dug into his back, making him hiss as he slowly pushed deeper inside.
“Fuck. You are so tight.” His breath was coming out in huffs of hot air against the skin of your neck, quiet moans beginning to spill from his lips as he bullied his cock further into you. “Shit. You can take it. I know y’can take it. Just let me in, baby.”
You tried your best to relax your muscles, trying to just lose yourself to the feeling and let Steve have you. It was starting to feel good, the deeper he filled you the more full you felt. It was unlike anything you’d ever felt.
Steve moaned loudly into your neck once he bottomed out, pumping into you shallowly a few times before he pulled farther back, slapping his hips into you. You let out a mix between a gasp and a moan, your eyes squeezing shut.
“You okay?” he asked, but it was obvious in his expression that he was desperate to keep going.
“I’m okay,” you said. “You can keep going.”
Steve smiled down at you before pressing his lips to yours again and setting a quick pace fucking into you. The sounds of your skin meeting and the bed - Tina’s parents’ bed - creaking from Steve’s movements filled the large bedroom. You worried people would be able to hear you from the hall.
“That’s it, that’s it,” Steve praised, his fingers digging into the plush of your thighs. “So good f’me. You’re such a good girl, aren’t you, baby?”
You whined in response, brain complete mush as Steve fucked you and the room spun around. You closed your eyes, hoping to calm the situation.
Steve pushed your legs up higher, pressing your thighs into your body and spreading your legs wide. This allowed him to get way deeper than before, and now he was letting out desperate moans, losing himself in the pleasure of you.
“Shit…I’m gonna cum,” he said as his thrusts became sloppy and fast, his cheeks, neck, and chest flushing red. “Fuuuck, I’m gonna cum. Fuck, are you gonna take it, baby?”
“Mmhmm,” you hummed, not even processing the question. There were no thoughts of condoms, no thoughts of pulling out even. Neither of you thinking, Steve neared his release inside you, holding onto you tightly.
“Take it, take it,” he cried out, biting down on your neck as he let out one last guttural groan, spilling his cum into you, every last drop as he rode out his high. You held onto him, feeling all of him.
Steve’s chest was heaving with his breaths as he pushed up on his arms, placing a kiss to your lips before he pulled out, collapsing on his back. You didn’t know what to say. You just laid there for a few minutes until Steve eventually rolled over to the side of the bed, standing and pulling his clothes back on. He tossed you your dress and you used it to cover your body, suddenly feeling self conscious.
“Let’s get you home, yeah?” he said as he slipped his shoes back on. “It’s been a long night.”
—
The next Monday, Steve and Nancy walked into school hand in hand. Your heart stopped in your chest at the sight, guilt eating you from the inside out. You tried not to get sick over it as you went through your day, until you got to talk to Nancy and Barb at your lockers.
“He came to my house with flowers,” Nancy said, smiling. “He said he was sorry and he didn’t want to be without me.”
“Aww!” Barb said, hand over her heart. “That’s so cute. He really cares about you.”
“Yeah,” was all you could add, because you knew you were the worst friend on the planet.
You were even more surprised later that day when someone grabbed your arm on the way to lunch. You turned to see Steve, looking at you seriously. “Can we talk?”
You hadn’t seen Steve since he’d been inside of you, you know, taking your virginity, a couple days ago, and that was the only thing going through your mind at that moment. “Um, yeah, sure.”
Steve led you down the hall and into the library, opening the door for you to one of the study rooms. You followed him inside and he shut the door, turning to you with an expression that told you how stressed out he was.
“Look,” he said, “about Tina’s party - what we did - I’m sorry. We shouldn’t have done that. I…really care about Nancy, and I don’t want to hurt her. I want to be with her.”
You just listened to him speak, his words only intensifying the ache in your chest. You knew it was coming, but it still hurt. You didn’t say anything, waiting for Steve to continue.
“I just don’t want this to get out,” he said slowly. “So…is it okay if we keep this between us? Never to repeat or be talked about?” He looked at you hopefully, praying you would keep the secret.
“Oh,” you said. “Sure. I won’t tell.”
“Awesome,” Steve said, breathing out a sigh of relief. “You know, it would just hurt Nance if she knew. And it’s never going to happen again, so there’s no point in her knowing, right?”
You weren’t sure you truly agreed, but you nodded along anyway. “Okay.”
“Good.” Steve smiled softly at you. His large hand rubbed your upper arm. “Thanks for understanding.”
The rest of the school day was extremely awkward - at least for you. Nancy and Barb were totally oblivious to what you’d done, and Steve was acting like he barely knew you.
You wondered if this was something he’d done before - taking girls’ virginity’s and then acting like it never happened, leaving them behind. When you slept together, you hadn’t exactly thought you and Steve would be together after (well, you were drunk so you weren’t thinking much at all), but you didn’t think he’d just go back to Nancy like nothing happened.
Something about it stung.
And they stayed together. This wasn’t the fling you had originally warned Nancy it might be. They seemed really into each other, which was really unfortunate for you, because you realized something that left you horrified.
You had developed feelings for Steve Harrington.
You always thought it was bullshit when they said in church as a kid that every time you have sex with someone you give a piece of yourself away, but you had truly given Steve a piece of yourself you couldn’t get back. But he hadn’t done the same for you.
Maybe it was different for guys? Or maybe you were just an idiot who fell for her best friend’s boyfriend after having sex with him.
It was hard to look Nancy or even Barb in the eye at all. Steve may have been able to forget what you did, but you couldn’t. You had betrayed your lifelong best friend. How were you supposed to keep this to yourself? You didn’t deserve their friendship.
Of course Nancy noticed your extreme self loathing - she was always perceptive. Steve’s just lucky he was better at lying than you.
“Are you okay?” She asked you after school one day while you and Barb were studying in her bedroom. “You seem upset lately.”
Oh, god. It was going to come out. You were going to blow it.
“I’ve just been kinda sad,” you said. “Just…stressed with college applications coming up.”
“Oh yeah, me too,” Barb said, a weary sigh coming from deep in her chest. “I’m worried I don’t have the grades. I want to go to Emerson with you guys, but I don’t have an extra curricular either.”
You were grateful as the conversation easily transitioned into college applications and the upcoming test in Mrs. O’Donnells. Your brain was elsewhere.
Not only were you consumed with guilt, but also the memory of Steve all over you, his hands, his mouth, his cock-
“Are we still having our movie night this weekend?” Barb asked a bit later as you were all preparing to leave.
“Oh,” Nancy said sheepishly, a blush rising to her pale cheeks. “Actually, Steve planned a surprise date this weekend. I’m not sure what we’re doing, but…” she giggled. “I don’t know. He might want to do more.”
Your head snapped up then. “You guys haven’t had sex yet?”
Nancy blushed even deeper. “No. I’ve been nervous. I want it to be with the right person at the right time. But I think we might this weekend.”
You felt sick. Not only had Steve slept with you before Nancy - your best friends couldn’t even know you’d lost your virginity - but now he was probably going to actually have sex with her. You wanted to say something, to stop it, but what could you say?
Nothing.
So you watched Nancy gushing about Steve and pretended it wasn’t killing you inside, pretending like you didn’t have feelings for him and never had. You were pretty good at pretending, after all.
—
It had been two months since the hookup when you started getting sick. You assumed it was a stomach bug at first, to the point that you let your mom take you to the doctor - only to get the biggest news of your life.
“You’re pregnant,” the doctor said, and you were suddenly grateful you’d told your mom you didn’t need her to go back with you.
The news had sent you reeling. There in the doctor’s office, your head spun, your vision dotting like you might pass out. Because this could not be happening. There was only one potential father, and he couldn’t be, he was with Nancy, you couldn’t do this-
The doctor gave you pamphlets on your different options, which you hastily stuffed into your bag. You weren’t ready to tell your parents about this yet. When you walked out of the office and your mom asked what the doctor said, all you could say was “Nothing, just a virus.”
“Did they give you any medicine?”
Yeah, a prescription for prenatal vitamins. “No, mom.”
Your mom looked worried. “Maybe we should go somewhere for a second opinion, you’ve been so sick it’s not normal-“
“Mom, I’m really fine,” you attempted to assure her. Please, you were not ready to come out with this yet. To anyone.
“I’m just worried,” she said, pushing a strand of hair behind your ear. “I don’t want you to be sick.”
“I promise I’m okay.” You gave her the most encouraging smile you could muster. “I’m feeling better today already.”
That was not true. You were getting sicker by the day, the “morning sickness” (more like all day sickness) kicking your ass. You knew this was your fault, but you still found yourself mad at Steve. Both of you had drunkenly agreed to sex without a condom, so it wasn’t really fair to put the blame on him, but when you were on your knees in front of the toilet for the 15th time that day, you didn’t care much about fair.
You were utterly panicked over the idea of being pregnant. What did this mean for your future? College? Falling in love one day? What guy your age wants to settle down with a step kid?
You considered abortion, but ultimately decided not to. Adoption was also considered, but you figured this was your baby, and you wanted to keep it. You felt bonded to it. Like whatever came, you were in this together.
What about Steve? How would he feel about this? Not good, you could imagine. He was still going strong with Nancy, and-
Oh god, Nancy.
She would never forgive you. Your friendship was over. You ruined everything. Barb would probably hate you, too. You would be friendless, boyfriendless, and pregnant.
Great. Good decisions, you thought to yourself.
You kept the news to yourself for weeks. You couldn’t bear to tell a single soul. Who could you tell? No one would be happy for you. Every person you had to tell would end in disaster.
It was weird, seeing Steve with Nancy, happy and like you never even existed, while you carried his child. You felt an internal longing towards him, like maybe the baby knew who their father was. Which was crazy, because it was still only cells working to become a human being.
You had your first ultrasound before you told anyone. You borrowed the car and drove yourself, stomach in knots as you waited in the waiting room. The ultrasound itself was uncomfortable - you always thought of them like they were in the movies, the little wand on your belly, but they explained that this early they usually do an internal ultrasound, which is just as unpleasant as it sounds.
You watched as the image showed up on the screen. The tiny little vaguely human shaped blob, wiggling around in there - inside of you. Alive. The tech took measurements, and you even heard the heartbeat. It took your breath away. You wondered what Steve would think if he knew, if he’d been there to experience it.
The tech said you were 9 weeks pregnant, due in July, which lined up perfectly with Halloween night. Not that there were any other possibilities. She printed you a bunch of photos, showing the tiny baby from multiple different angles.
As you left with the photos clutched in your hand, you wondered how long you had before you were forced to come clean about this. Not long, you figured. Would it be better to just come out and say it now?
No. You weren’t doing that. You were not ready for that.
Going to school with this secret held deep inside was a lot already. It felt like everyone who saw you knew, even though that was impossible. Like it was written on your forehead.
Having to face Nancy and Barb was even worse. They treated you just like normal, like their best friend, meanwhile you were hiding the biggest secret possible beneath your sweater.
Seeing Nancy with Steve was even worse. They were so happy together. You knew they had to be sleeping together by now. You were nothing but a distant memory, a cheap hookup, another one of King Steve’s conquests.
Except that wasn’t true. The baby growing in your belly proved that. This was one hookup he’d never forget.
—
When you were 13 weeks pregnant, you noticed the smallest bump in the mirror. It took your breath away as your hand rubbed over it, the firm mound of your stomach seemingly popped overnight. This was bad. This meant you were out of time.
You dressed in a loose sweatshirt and leggings, which was not your usual style whatsoever. Nancy and Barb immediately noticed something was up when you met them at your lockers.
“Are you sick?” Nancy asked, reaching for your forehead with the back of her hand like your mom.
“A little,” you admitted. “I’m just not feeling great.”
Nancy looked at you sympathetically. “Maybe you should go home. I can bring you some soup after school.”
You shook your head - “I can’t. I’ve already missed too much school.” Between the days you’d missed with your morning sickness and the days you’d have to miss for appointments, it was woefully true.
Nancy still looked concerned. “I’m just worried about you. You look rough. I don’t want you being sick at school-“
She was cut off with a squeal as Steve came up behind her, wrapping his arms around her. He whispered something in her ear that had her giggling before he turned to you. His brows furrowed like he was thinking something, but he didn’t say anything to
you.
“Ready to get to class?” he asked Nancy. He’d taken to walking her to every single one of her classes. It would have been sweet if not for your current situation.
“Oh, sure,” Nancy said, closing her locker. She turned to you. “You’ll let me know if you feel any worse, right?”
The guilt ate at you. Yeah, Nancy, thanks for caring about me, I’m just sick because I’m carrying your boyfriend’s baby. “Yeah, I will.”
Steve gave you another lingering look before he walked off with Nancy, arm wrapped around her shoulders.
It was later that day when you caught Steve alone. You approached him quickly, taking your chance before you could talk yourself out of it. “Steve. Can I talk to you?”
There was a certain dread on his face that almost made you wonder if he already knew what you were going to say. “Um. Yeah, I guess.”
You found yourselves back in the library study pod you’d had your first conversation in, which felt…poetic. He looked like he’d rather be anywhere else, fidgeting and uncomfortable as he leaned against the study table. his gaze darted around, like he didn’t want to meet your eyes.
“What did you want to talk about?” he asked. He was ready to get this over with, whatever it was.
“I…” you thought for a moment about what the best way to break the news would be. You realized you probably should have planned your words, that would have made this a hell of a lot easier.
Steve looked at you expectantly. He didn’t want to say get on with it, but at the same time…. “What is it?”
You fiddled with your bag strap, feeling sick to your stomach. “I’m pregnant.”
Steve just looked at you like he didn’t even hear you. He just blinked. Then, finally, a grin spread across his face, which had you confused.
“Ha, ha. Good one,” he said, bowing his head as if he respected the joke. “You had me scared for a minute there.”
“Steve, I…” you tightened your grip on the strap of your bag, wishing you were anywhere but in your current situation. “I’m not joking. I’m being serious.”
His smile dropped immediately. He started sweating, feeling like his shirt was too tight and he couldn’t breathe. His head was spinning. He leaned on the table for support. “No. You’re not.”
“I am,” you said, frustrated at the way Steve seemed to be choosing to not understand or believe you. “I’m pregnant, Steve. For real.”
He shook his head. “No. No way. It’s not mine.”
You jerked back as if you’d been slapped. “What do you mean it’s not yours?”
“It’s not…there’s n-no way it’s mine,” he said, his voice shaking as he stuttered over his words. He scrambled desperately in his own brain for any way out of this, anything that would disprove his involvement in all of this, but he came up with nothing.
“Steve, you’re the only person I’ve ever had sex with and you know that,” you hissed at him through gritted teeth, having gone from scared to pissed off that Steve really had the nerve to deny this baby.
“I don’t know, maybe you hooked up with someone after me. I wouldn’t know. And then you come telling me it’s mine because my family has money? Well-“
“Are you serious?” You raised your voice slightly, making Steve look around in a panic as he tried to shush you. “You know it’s yours. And you’re really accusing me of wanting your money? I don’t give a fuck about your money. I just thought you deserved to know you’re gonna be a dad.”
Steve paled. “I-I…there’s no way, there’s-“
“I know this is a lot to take in,” you said. “Believe me. I know.”
“Can you prove- can you prove it?” he asked, but it was obvious he was just scared, grasping at anything that would make this go away, anything that would make this not real.
You lifted your sweatshirt. The bump was obvious, perfectly round, and not at all in a ‘maybe you just gained some weight’ kind of way. Steve somehow went even more pale, and you suddenly worried he might pass out.
“Shit,” he hissed. “I- what- how far are you? How long have you known?”
“I found out a month ago. I’m 13 weeks.” You fished the ultrasound photos out of your bag, handing them over to Steve. His hands were shaking terribly as he took them from you, looking over the distinctly baby shaped blob growing inside of you, and sure enough your name was printed at the top.
“How…how many weeks are there? In a pregnancy?” Steve asked, feeling like a total idiot.
You didn’t treat him like one. “40.”
Steve let out a rush of air. “Okay. There’s time. Okay.” He ran a hand through his hair, messing up the style that probably took him an hour this morning. “What…do you want to do? About the baby?”
“What do you mean?” you asked. “Like, do I want to keep it?”
“Well…yeah,” he said. “Do you?”
“It’s too late for an abortion,” you said. “But…I had decided I wanted to keep it. Him or her. I couldn’t…I don’t think I could carry a baby and give them up.”
Steve nodded slowly. It wasn’t what he was hoping to hear, but what he expected to hear. He understood, in a way. He didn’t love the idea of an abortion or adoption either. “Okay. Um. What happens now?”
You didn’t know either, to be honest. “Well, um…do you want to be…are you going to be involved?”
“With…the baby?”
“Yes, Steve.”
He looked around, took a deep breath. “Well, like. It is my kid, right? So…I’m not going to abandon it. Or you. I’m not…I’m not like that, I swear. I own up to my shit.”
“You just tried to tell me I was lying about it being yours for your money-“
“Okay,” Steve said, holding a hand up, “I get it. I’m sorry. I just panicked, okay? This isn’t exactly great news right now.”
“What about Nancy?”
Those words were like a bomb dropped in the tiny room. No one said anything - it felt like all the oxygen had been sucked out, like a vacuum. No one knew the answer to that question. What about Nancy?
“She’s going to kill me,” Steve finally said, burying his face in his hands. “Fuck. She’s going to break up with me for good.” He began rambling, his internal monologue spilling from his mouth without filter. “And what about my love life? No girl is going to want to go out with me with a kid on the way. No girl is going to want to go out with a dad at our age. And my parents? Jesus, what a fucking disaster-“
“Steve,” you said, cutting off his frantic rambling. “Calm down.”
He nodded, taking a few deep breaths. You’d never seen him so worked up. “Yeah. Okay.”
“We’ll take it one step at a time, okay?” you said, wondering how you ended up being the one comforting him. “We have time. There is a rush, but we have like 6 months. We…look, Steve, we’re gonna be okay, I think.”
He sniffled, and you wondered if he’d started crying. “Have you told your parents?”
Silence. “No.”
Steve nodded again. He ran both his hands through his hair this time, a nervous laugh spilling unprompted from his lips. “Oh, fuck. We are fucked.”
The bell rang, signaling the start of the next class you were now officially late for. You subconsciously rubbed a hand over your belly, adjusting your sweatshirt and high waisted leggings back to cover it as well as you could. Steve watched you, his eyes locked on the bump the entire time.
“Can I…feel it?”
The question caught you so off guard, you thought you might have imagined it. “What?”
“The…your stomach?” He felt so awkward. “Can I touch it?”
You blinked at him. The question was so out of nowhere, the last thing you expected him to say. “Oh…sure?”
You lifted your sweatshirt again and pushed down the waist of your leggings, exposing the skin again. Steve walked towards you hesitantly, extending his hand. Finally he reached you and placed his hand on your stomach.
His hand was so big, the entirety of the bump fit beneath his palm. It felt weird to have him (or anyone) touching you like this. Steve had a look of awe on his face, his thumb caressing the firm skin. It was a tender moment, one you didn’t expect.
“It’s really real, huh?” Steve said quietly, almost to himself. “There’s really a baby in there? …My baby?”
You smiled gently. “Yeah. There is.”
Steve stayed there for a minute longer, just feeling. When he finally pulled away he didn’t say anything, just lowered his hand and watched as you readjusted your clothes. Just watching you.
“I guess we better get back to class,” you said. “We’re late.”
“Yeah. You’re right.” Steve laughed humorlessly again. “But I don’t think it matters much anymore. College is out the window.”
You hadn’t even thought about that. That made you feel sick, the idea of throwing away all the hard work you’d put in throughout your years in high school. Watching Nancy and Barb go on to Emerson without you. Not that they’d want you to come with them, anyway. They were going to hate you soon enough.
God, Nancy and Barb. How were you supposed to tell them? Hey, Nancy, I have some news - I’m having your boyfriend’s baby. You felt the panic rising in your own chest now, for about the millionth time since you’d found out. Steve stepped forward, a hand on your shoulder.
“Hey,” he said, “it’s okay. Calm down, it’s…it’s not good for the baby. We’re gonna figure this out.”
His words surprised you, the way the tables had turned. He took deep breaths with you as you calmed yourself. “I just don’t know what we’re gonna do. I don’t even know where to go next. I’m-“
Steve said your name, grounding you to the moment. He pushed your hair behind your ear, eyes roaming over your face. He wondered if you had been this beautiful all along, or if you being pregnant with his child made you even more luminous.
“It’s gonna be okay. I’m gonna take care of you. Both of you. Okay?”
You just nodded, stray tears escaping down your cheeks. “Okay.”
You had to trust him.
—
It was gym class that fucked you over in the end.
You had managed to get out of class since you’d started showing, with excuses about your period and headaches and stomach aches. But eventually your gym teacher got tired of it.
“You’re changing into your uniform and you’re running with us today,” she said. “No excuses.”
So you changed in the bathroom stall, which was already strange enough. You waited until the rest of the girls had left the locker room, including Nancy and Barb, before you walked out and stood in front of the mirror.
Oh, god.
It was worse than you thought. The bump was clear as day below your shirt, perfectly round beneath the soft thin material. You looked at your reflection in horror, smoothing your hand over it, wondering if there was anything you could do to hide this. But when your gym teacher yelled through the door for you to hurry up, you realized you were out of time.
It was coming out. Now.
You walked out of the locker room with your arms crossed over your stomach. You had never felt more exposed in your life. The girls were all sitting on the basketball court stretching, laughing and giggling with each other. You approached Nancy and Barb and slid to the ground next to them.
“Are you cold?” Nancy asked, immediately giving you a strange look. “Because I have a sweatshirt in my locker you can-“
You were about to take her up on that kind offer when the teacher blew her whistle, calling everyone to line up. You joined the rest of the class, and she gave you a look. She called your name - “Arms down. What are you doing?”
You felt like you were on stage with a spotlight directly on you. Every girl in your class was looking at you, wondering what the hell you were doing. You had no choice. You lowered your arms, and there was a collective gasp.
“Holy…shit…” Tina said, not even attempting to hide her laughter.
Nancy said your name softly, and you turned to face her and Barb. “What…” Nancy said, looking at you wide eyed and shaking her head like she couldn’t believe what she was seeing. “What did you do?”
It was fight or flight, and your brain decided for you. You turned and sprinted back into the locker room, tears falling immediately. You were sobbing by the time the locker room door slammed shut behind you, but it opened again seconds later.
Nancy called your name again as she and Barb hurried to your side, wrapping their arms around you. You wanted to push them away. You didn’t deserve their comfort.
“How did this…” Nancy began, but she was at a loss for words. “Who…when did you…”
“I’m 14 weeks,” you sniffled, wiping at your eyes. “It was…Halloween.”
Nancy gasped. Her and Barb exchanged a look. “Why didn’t you tell us? Who was it? Does he know?”
Your hands were clenched into tight fists. “Yeah, he knows.”
“Who’s the father?” Barb asked again, since you hadn’t answered Nancy either time she had said it.
What could you do? It was time for the truth to come out, ready or not.
“It’s…” you drew in a gasping breath, choking on your own sobs. “It’s Steve’s.”
The room went silent besides the sound of your crying. No one moved. No one dared to move. It was like the calm before the storm, the peace moments before the tornado rips the roof off the house.
“Steve?” Nancy said finally, looking at you like you were dumb and had said something completely outlandish. “Steve…Harrington? My Steve?”
Her Steve.
“Yes,” was all you could say, your voice barely a whisper. “It was…Nancy, I’m so sorry. You have no idea how sorry I am. It was at Tina’s stupid party, after you and Steve had that fight, we were talking and- just- one thing led to another, and-“
Nancy held her hand up, stopping you. Barb just looked between the two of you, her expression one of absolute shock. Nancy’s normally calm face had been replaced by a mask of pure fury, rage and disappointment and hurt. Betrayal.
“You…you slut!” Nancy spat, and she might as well have slapped you in the face. You recoiled, jerking back as if she had truly struck you.
“Nancy, I-“
“I don’t want to hear anything else you have to say,” she said, standing to her feet. Barb looked between the two of you before she stood, too. Her side chosen.
“I can’t believe you,” Nancy said. “You were really that jealous? You couldn’t stand the thought of me having a boyfriend - of me being with King Steve Harrington - so you had to jump in the middle, huh? Take him for yourself?”
“Nance, that is not it, we were both so drunk-“
“But you knew it happened,” she said. “You knew it happened, and you both made a fool of me. Pretending like you hadn’t…fucked each other, like everything was fine between us, like you weren’t keeping the hugest secret in the world.” She shook her head. “You know what? You two deserve each other.”
She turned them, leaving the locker room and going back to class with Barb following behind her. You stayed there on the floor, alone. You pulled your knees to your chest as close as you could and sobbed, burying your face in your arms.
You cried, and cried, and cried. But you had no right to feel like this. No right to be hurt. You were the one who fucked up. You really betrayed your best friend.
You were the scum of the earth.
Lunch was right after gym, and you didn’t know what to expect. You knew you weren’t going to be happily sitting at your table with Nancy, Barb, and Steve. But on your way to the cafeteria, in the deserted hall, you caught Nancy talking to Steve.
“Do you have something to say to me?” she asked him, her face just as angry as the last time you’d seen her.
“What?” Steve asked with an awkward chuckle. “Babe, I have no idea what you’re talking about-“
“Don’t call me babe,” she snapped, making his eyes go wide. “There’s nothing you think you should tell me?”
He noticed you then, standing off to the side. His wide eyes landed on you, then dropped down to your stomach. He looked back at Nancy. “Oh, fuck, Nance, listen-“
“No, you listen, Steve Harrington.” Nancy pointed a finger in his face, her own twisted in pure fury. “No one treats me like a fool. You think you can go around, fucking whoever you want, being as reckless as you want, then come to me with flowers and lies and act like nothing happened? Like you didn’t fuck my best friend?” Her voice broke at the end of her sentence, and your heart felt crushed in your chest. You realized the gravity of your fuck up - the cherished lifelong friendship you’d lost.
“Nance-“
“Don’t.” She looked up, trying to stop the tears threatening to fall. “I don’t want to hear it. Whatever excuse you have for me, I don’t care. I don’t care that you were drunk. What you did is beyond forgiveness.” She turned and met your eyes again. “For both of you.” When she looked back at Steve, there was resolve in her eyes. “We’re over.”
Steve watched, dumbfounded, as Nancy turned and stomped towards the cafeteria. He felt helpless as he watched her go - the potential love of his life, at least that’s how it felt - over one, stupid, massive mistake. He turned around and punched the locker with a loud “Fuck!”, leaving a large dent in the grey metal.
You approached him cautiously, not sure what you should do, if anything. He turned to you with tears welling in his brown eyes. He looked devastated. You felt guilty about that, too.
“Steve, I’m sorry.”
He shook his head. “Not now.”
You watched helplessly as Steve stormed off, leaving you alone in the hallway. You really were alone. Completely.
—
You had pretty much resigned yourself to the fact that your life was over. No friends, no boyfriend, the father of the baby possibly not involved. You didn’t know if you could trust Steve to stick around like he said, especially with the way he had left you earlier.
After school, you had to call your mom to come pick you up. You made up a lie about Nancy having a doctor’s appointment, and your mom told you she’d be there after work.
With time to kill, you ended up in one of the study pods again. You flipped through your physics textbook, no homework to be done. You had nearly fallen asleep when the sound of someone walking in startled you.
You looked up to see Steve, giving you a sheepish look as he settled into the small space. “Hey,” he said.
“Hey?” you said back, cautious of whatever he had come to say. With the way things were going for you, it couldn’t possibly be good.
“I just…” he sighed. “I just wanted to say I’m sorry, about earlier. I shouldn’t have stormed off and left you like that.”
You shook your head. “No, it’s okay. I’m sorry about…Nancy.”
“It’s not your fault. Well, not any more your fault than it is mine.” He huffed a short laugh. “We both knew this was coming, though, didn’t we?”
You supposed you did. It didn’t make it any easier.
“She was my best friend since kindergarten,” is all you could offer. Then, like a dam breaking, you burst into tears. You covered your face with your hands as you sobbed, wishing you could undo everything.
“Hey, hey,” Steve said gently, wrapping his arms around you. He pulled you into a tight hug, his large hand rubbing your back soothingly. It helped, surprisingly. You knew you were soaking his polo shirt. “You’re okay. Breathe for me, alright? You’re okay.”
You tried to breathe slowly, following the slow up and down of Steve’s chest. Eventually you were breathing with him again, slow and steady. “Good,” Steve said, and even the rumble of his voice through his chest was soothing. “Can’t have my baby mama freaking out on me.”
You couldn’t help but laugh a little. Steve was good at getting you to smile when it felt like you never would again, that was for sure. He put his hands on your shoulders and pushed you back slightly to look at you. His face was etched with worry as he took in your puffy bloodshot eyes. “I mean it, you know. It is going to be okay.”
“What about Nancy?” you asked, lip wobbling as you thought of your former best friend again.
“Nancy…” Steve sighed. “I hope she’ll come around. You know, things won’t be the same, but…”
But she might not hate your guts, you finished the thought in your own head.
“You’re not upset that she just broke up with you?” you asked.
“Of course I am,” he said, letting out a sigh. “But you’re my main concern.”
“Me?” You were taken aback. “Why me?”
Steve let out a disbelieving laugh. “Really?” He placed a hand on the bump, an affectionate gesture. “That’s my little nugget in there.”
Something about the way he said it sent heat to your cheeks. It was the most affection you’d received from him since you told him. And it was…nice. You hadn’t had anyone to be excited about this with you, to talk about the future and baby names and whether it would be a boy or a girl. You wouldn’t have any friends jumping to throw you a baby shower or anything, but maybe Steve could be that support for you.
“Yeah,” you said simply. “It is.”
Steve smiled softly at you. “I’m not gonna let anything bad happen to either of you. I hope you know that. You have my word, and I don’t go back on my word. I was a boy scout.” He held up a salute. “Scout’s honor.”
You laughed. It was incredible to be feeling lighter than you had in months. Steve had that effect on you, somehow.
“I may not know how to be a dad,” he said, “but I guarantee I’m going to be the best one.”
—
Steve kept his word. He stuck by your side. It didn’t take long for the news to spread around the entire school - not just that you were pregnant, but that it was Steve’s, and that he and Nancy had broken up.
Nancy was still furious. You hated that you had dragged her into this with you, that the whole school was laughing at her for being so clueless. It wasn’t her fault and she didn’t deserve that.
Steve didn’t let anyone say anything to you. The first time Tommy tried to give you shit, Steve punched him in the face. Somehow, they were still friends.
Steve walked you to every class, carrying your books for you and not letting you lift a finger. You sat with him at lunch, ignoring the dirty looks from Carol. You didn’t think you’d ever be able to be friends with her. That was okay with you.
He started picking you up for school and bringing you home. Usually your parents weren’t home in time to see him, but on this particular day, 16 weeks into the pregnancy, they were.
“Maybe you should come inside,” you said, looking at Steve with your brows furrowed, worry etched in the lines formed on your face. “Meet my parents. Maybe…maybe we should tell them.”
Steve took a deep breath. “Look, parents usually love me, but I’ve never had to tell some I got their daughter pregnant.”
You laughed lightly. “Yeah, well…I figure we have to.”
You climbed out of the car, pulling your sweatshirt back on. Steve followed, placing a hand on your back as you both walked up the sidewalk to the front door. When you entered the house, the smell of pasta greeted you instantly. Your mom was in the kitchen and your dad was sitting in his recliner, watching TV.
“Hi, honey,” your mom greeted you without looking up as you walked in. When she finally did look up, she let out a little “Oh!”! at the sight of Steve. “I’m sorry, I didn’t know we’d be having company tonight.”
Your dad looked over, suddenly interested. He eyed Steve, like he was thinking or he knew him from somewhere. “Mom, Dad, this is Steve,” you said, hands in the pockets of your sweatshirt. You could feel the bump beneath your hands,
“Hi. Steve Harrington,” he said in his usual charming way, moving to shake your mom’s hand first and then your dad’s.
“Harrington?” your dad asked, eyebrows raised. “Are you related to Richard Harrington?”
“That’s my dad,” Steve said, his cheeks turning red. You wondered what Steve’s relationship with his dad was like.
“I work for your dad,” he said. “Have since before you were born.”
“Oh,” Steve said awkwardly. You cringed - that was going to make this whole situation even more uncomfortable.
“So what’s the occasion?” your mom asked with a smile as she put the lid back on the pot. You hated that you were about to ruin their good mood.
“Um…Mom, Dad, I have something I need to talk to you about.” You gestured between you and Steve. “Something we need to talk to you about.”
Your mom was instantly concerned, your dad suspicious. “What about?” she asked.
“You might want to sit down.”
That made their worry even worse. Your dad turned the TV off as you and Steve took a seat on the couch, your mom coming in to sit on her chair. “Okay…” she said, “should I be scared?”
“Yeah,” you admitted. Your dad reached over and grabbed her hand. You looked at Steve, who gave you a soft reassuring smile before grabbing your hand. He squeezed it, and you squeezed his back. You took a deep breath and looked back at your parents. The guilt ate at you. “I’m pregnant.”
There was only silence. Your mom covered her mouth with her free hand, tears coming to her eyes. Your dad looked dumbfounded, neither of them knowing what to say.
“And…Steve is the father?” your dad finally asked.
“Um…yes, sir,” Steve said, blushing furiously. Because wasn’t announcing a pregnancy basically telling people ‘hey, we had sex!’? There was only one way we got here.
“Oh, jesus,” your mom said.
“Are you intending to marry her?” your dad asked.
It went silent again.
“S-sorry?” Steve stuttered, his eyes wide.
Your dad looked angry now. “Are you planning to marry my daughter? Make an honest woman out of her?”
“I…I-“
You knew your dad was traditional, but you didn’t expect him to demand you get married. You were only 18. You and Steve weren’t even together.
“Dad, come on,” you said, pleaded. “Don’t do this. It’s humiliating.”
Your dad said your name sternly. “You don’t understand how serious of a situation this is, clearly. Your reputation is going to be drug through the mud. Both of you.” Your dad looked between you. Steve felt as if he was being scolded by his own father - no, that would be worse. “You need to get married. Be together for this child. I know the Harringtons can take care of you.”
“Dad!”
“Look, we’ll revisit this,” your mom said, drawing everyone’s attention. “What’s important right now is this baby. Do you have a doctor? Have you been going to appointments? Taking prenatals?”
“Yes, yes, and yes,” you said.
“No, I’m not done-“ your dad interrupted, but your mom cut him off.
“No more. You’re stressing her out. It’s bad for the baby.”
“Stressing her out?!”
“Steve,” your mom said, ignoring your dad entirely. Steve was grateful for the interruption. “Are you planning to stick around? Be a dad?”
“Of course,” he said instantly. No hesitation whatsoever.
Your mom smiled. “Good. That’s what matters. We can talk about marriage later.”
Steve paled again.
“This is ridiculous,” your dad said. He stood, walking over to the phone on the wall. He angrily dialed a number, then pressed the phone to his ear.
“Dad…?” you said, dreading whatever he was about to do. “Who are you calling?”
He ignored you. Then, finally- “Mr. Harrington!” he greeted the man on the other line.
Steve looked as if he might pass out. You gripped his hand tighter. “Dad, don’t do this. Please don’t do it like this.”
“Mr. Harrington,” he said into the phone. “Did you know your son is at my house? With my daughter?” A pause. “Yes. Well, apparently, we’re going to be in laws.”
You closed your eyes, the embarrassment and dread physically painful. Steve was nervously bouncing his leg so hard the whole couch was shaking. Your mom stood up, trying to talk some sense into your father, but the damage had already been done.
Your dad held the phone out towards Steve. “He wants to talk to you, son.”
Steve walked over to take the phone like he was walking to his own execution. His hand was shaking as he took it from your father’s hand, then held it to his ear. “…Dad?” He held the phone away from his ear as you could hear the man screaming from where you sat across the room.
“Dad, listen…I-yes, I did, but it-…yeah, I was seeing Nancy. It’s a long story. I-…she’s not a-…okay. Yeah. Okay. See you at home. Yeah. Bye.”
Steve hung up the phone, looking completely dejected. This had gone way worse than you expected. Steve was horrified. You felt guilty once again, that you were putting Steve through this and that you had let your parents down. They didn’t even know about the whole Nancy’s boyfriend thing yet.
“I gotta go,” Steve said to you, looking apologetic and sad. He put his hand on your upper arm, thumb caressing it over the material of your sweatshirt. Then, surprising you, he put his hand on your belly. He smiled down at it affectionately. “Bye, lil’ nugget.” He looked at you again. “See you tomorrow.”
Even with Steve gone, the tension in the room was still high. Your mom was looking at you like she couldn’t believe her baby girl was doing things like having sex and getting pregnant. Your dad looked at you like you’d disappointed him greatly. You didn’t know which was worse.
“Why don’t you go upstairs and freshen up for dinner,” your mom finally said, forcing a kind smile onto her face.
“Okay,” you said. You were grateful for the excuse to get out of this room. You hurried up the steps, heading into your bathroom to pee for the millionth time that day and then take a shower. You stared at your body in the mirror when you got undressed - it was weird, the changes it was going through. You looked so different already, and it wasn’t even halfway through yet. Almost, though. That thought was terrifying.
After your shower you blow dried your hair, then walked into your bedroom wrapped in a towel. You collapsed back onto your bed. Your back hurt, your feet hurt, and you still weren’t even that big yet. God, how embarrassing will it be to go through graduation super pregnant? You hadn’t even thought of that. The whole school watching you knowing what you did. And Hawkins was small. This would follow you forever.
You dressed in a t-shirt and comfy pants, brushing your hair out and doing something with it. You didn’t have the energy to put in much effort. You didn’t even put on any makeup before you went downstairs, taking a seat at the table and putting a serving on your plate. It was still tense, like you’d interrupted a heated conversation. You didn’t want to put stress on your parents’ marriage, too. You had already caused so much collateral damage.
After dinner, you waited. And waited. And waited. Finally, just as you were starting to doze off, the phone next to your bed rang. You snatched it off the receiver so fast it barely had time to make a sound.
“Steve?” you said quickly, praying it was him and that he was alright.
“Hey,” he said, his familiar voice bringing you a weird sense of peace. “Are you okay?”
“Me?” You couldn’t believe Steve was worried about you first amidst all of this. “Are you okay?”
He sighed deeply. “Yeah. My dad is pissed. Both my parents are furious.”
“Oh,” you said. “I’m so sorry, Steve.”
“Hey, it’s okay. It’s not your fault. But, uh…they want to meet you.”
You froze. “They want to meet me?”
“Well, yeah. You’re having their grandchild.”
When he put it like that, it sounded so much bigger. You put a hand on your stomach, rubbing in circles around it. “Okay. We can do that.”
“It’s not just to yell at you, I promise,” he said with a slight chuckle. “They got that out of their system with me tonight I think. They just want to know you. They want to be involved with the baby.”
“Okay,” you said again. “Um…when?”
“Friday maybe?” he asked. “You can ride home with me after school.”
“Alright.” It was quiet again for a while. “I’m glad you’re okay, Steve. How are you feeling with the whole…Nancy stuff?”
He sighed. “It sucks. I’m not gonna lie to you. I miss her. I miss her, like, a lot. She won’t even look at me. It hurts.”
You felt terrible. “Steve, I’m so sorry. This is such a mess.”
“Yeah, it is.” You could almost hear a smile in his voice when he spoke again. “But it’s not all bad. I’m…kind of excited to be a dad.”
Your eyebrows flew up. “Really?”
“Yeah. I always wanted to be a dad.” A beat of silence. “It’s earlier than I wanted, sure, and I’m not even sure what we’re going to do, but I know that we’re having this baby and I’m going to love them and be the best dad. Better than my dad.”
His speech made you feel fuzzy inside, your heart beating hard in your chest. You hadn’t thought about the good parts yet. You’d been too stressed with Nancy, Barb, your parents, Steve’s parents, college…maybe being a mom wouldn’t be so bad.
“You gonna coach little league?” you asked, smiling. You felt giddy, like a teenage girl kicking her feet and talking to her crush. Only, you didn’t have feelings for Steve like that.
“Oh, yeah,” he laughed. “I am! I’m looking forward to it. I played baseball, basketball, I was the captain of the swim team…”
“Wow. I knew you were a jock, but I didn’t know you played so many sports.”
“Good at them, too.” The pride was evident in his voice.
“Are we gonna have a little sports prodigy?”
“God, I hope so.”
You laughed. Steve made you feel a way you truly didn’t understand. It was like butterflies in your stomach, goosebumps on your skin. You remembered what it felt like to kiss him, to-
“What if they’re more like me?” you asked. “Will you be disappointed?”
“Like you?” he said. “What, smart as hell? No, of course I wouldn’t be disappointed. I’d be so proud to have a genius kid.”
“Genius?” you laughed. “I am not a genius.”
“You’re super smart.” A pause. “Our baby would be lucky to be like you.”
Your heart beat harder. “Steve-“
“Oh, shit. I gotta go. My parents grounded me and put me on a curfew.” He scoffed. “I’ll see you tomorrow.”
“See you tomorrow.” When you heard the click of him hanging up the phone, you felt disappointed. Like you missed him immediately. Your fingers itched to call him back.
You made yourself turn off the lights and get into bed instead. Your head was plagued with thoughts of Steve. You couldn’t think of anything else. You had visions of him holding a newborn baby, playing with a rambunctious toddler, playing baseball with a kid, smiling with a teenager. You had a whole life ahead of you with Steve. You, Steve, and your baby.
You wondered if it would be a boy or a girl. You didn’t know if you had a preference one way or the other. As cliche as it was, you just wanted a healthy baby. You felt like you needed to grow up fast now. It wasn’t just you you had to worry about, you had to think of this baby all the time now, first.
You thought you liked being pregnant. It felt nice to carry the baby with you, to be so impossibly close to them, having them inside where they’re safe. Despite the morning sickness (which had thankfully come to an end), you would maybe miss being pregnant after having the baby.
You drifted off eventually to those thoughts- feeling content.

Fundraising for the Canadian Cancer Society
[ALT: A screenshot of the fundraising page for the Canadian cancer society, featuring the DashCon 2 logo]
Hey y’all!
I’m Avis, the co-founder of DashCon 2, and I’d like to write something a bit more personal than our updates usually get. I want to start off with a huge thank you to all of you, from our mailing list to our tumblr followers. It’s genuinely insane that so many of you wanted tickets that you crashed Simpli Events and sold out 550 tickets in less than 20 minutes. Simone and I initially conceptualized DashCon 2 as a 300-person event, so we’re utterly blown away by just how much attention we’ve received.
Honestly, planning and expanding DashCon has been wild. We’ve always been a small, tight-knit team, and I’m really proud of just how far we’ve gotten. Especially because I almost left the project just a few months into planning.
My mom was diagnosed with cancer last August, and it threw a lot of my plans into uncertainty. It wasn’t the first time she’d battled cancer, and I know too well how hard it is to focus on anything in the face of the inescapable terror of losing her. This is why it means so much to me to announce that DashCon 2 is running a fundraiser for the Canadian Cancer Society. You can donate to our fundraiser at https://fundraisemyway.cancer.ca/campaign/dashcontwo. All donations from this page go directly to them, we couldn’t use any of it if we wanted to.
Thankfully, my mom is now once again cancer-free, but that doesn’t erase the many ways cancer has impacted my family, and the families of many people on the team. Nearly half of all Canadians can expect to be diagnosed with cancer in their lifetime, and the Canadian Cancer Society does incredible work to fund research that actively improves the lives of cancer patients. My mom is probably the strongest, coolest, and kindest woman I know, and the Canadian Cancer Society’s work is part of why she’s still alive.
Please, if you couldn’t get a ticket, or if you think we’re a scam and didn’t bother, give the Canadian Cancer Society any money you would’ve given us. We’ll be auctioning off merch, ball pit balls, and more in an official raffle, but we encourage you to give directly if you can. Given that our venue fees are paid, we can’t think of a better use for seventeen thousand dollars. DashCon 2 wouldn't be happening without our community's immense outpour of love and support, and we consider it our responsibility to pay it forward.
Moving onto somewhat lighter matters, unfortunately, we won’t be selling any more in-person tickets for DashCon 2. We’ve always wanted DashCon 2 to be a local convention first, and despite all the attention we received, we had trouble gauging how well our following would translate to actual attendance numbers. I’m really sorry that so many of you couldn’t get a ticket, but for now we want to focus on making sure that we run a fun, safe, and accessible event for 500 people before we move to a larger venue.
However, all hope is not lost! We’ve thrown ourselves into expanding our plans for virtual DashCon 2! We promise we’ll start selling tickets soon, but for now I can tell you that we’re planning to run a great selection of virtual panels, stream some of the larger in person-panels, and maybe even stream a duel (if such a thing occurs). A portion of all virtual ticket sales will be donated to the Canadian Cancer Society.
Thank you once again for all your support. Again, you can find our fundraiser at https://fundraisemyway.cancer.ca/campaign/dashcontwo.
Thanks for everything,
Avis | DashCon 2 Co-Founder

Zutara, romance novels, and the female gaze
Okay so I’ve been thinking about the female gaze a LOT so I checked out a subreddit about romance novels, despite never having read one. I came across this meme (which was initially a Tumblr post and then got posted to Instagram and then to Reddit and I’m now bringing back to Tumblr — Internet telephone, pls never change):

And…what is The Southern Raiders, if not a platonic grovel? Katara’s pain is central to the episode. It’s central to Zuko. Zuko asks Katara what he can do to make up for his betrayal; she demands the impossible. He reads between the lines, cockblocks her brother to get the necessary information, and then waits outside her door overnight (which he also did for Iroh, the one person we know for sure he loves). He basically makes himself a receptacle for her rage, and he holds space for her by coming with her on her revenge quest and carrying their bags and not saying a damn thing about what she should and should not do beyond like…asking her to rest. And obviously the grovel works! She forgives him and then they’re thick as thieves, bantering and fighting and saving each other’s lives, etc.
On a different note, I’ve been told that enemies to lovers is one of the biggest tropes in romance novels, similar to YA lit and fanfic. Here’s something else I found in the romance novel discourse:

And…yeah. In TSR, Katara really does show Zuko her worst self, because she doesn’t feel the need to perform for him. She doesn’t feel the need to perform moral perfection OR cold blooded vengeance. She bloodbends in front of him and he just goes with it. She doesn’t kill Yon Rha and he just goes with it. He doesn’t treat her any differently afterwards. Maybe they talk about it off screen, but I kind of like the idea that they don’t, because Katara doesn’t need to explain anything. And it’s so interesting, because some people in the ATLA fandom have a totally different read on TSR. They think Zuko was encouraging Katara to get revenge (by what, keeping his mouth shut?), and that Aang is the one who acts as her moral compass. I believe that either Bryan or Mike said in the DVD commentary that Aang is the angel on her shoulder the entire time. And this interpretation does make sense if you see it from the male gaze, where Katara as an object of affection is acting in an angry, irrational, threatening way. But if you see it from the female gaze, you recognize that actually it’s probably the most emotionally taxing experience Katara has to go through, and she doesn’t owe it to be nice or perfect to anybody. Katara’s formative trauma literally comes to a head, and she has to make a decision — no, a discovery — about who she is in relation to the tragedy that defines her life and even her identity (as a waterbender, as a parentified child who becomes the mom friend, as a genocide victim), and she’s accompanied by someone who trusts her judgement and validates her feelings.
I’m not saying TSR is explicitly romantically coded, but when it conforms so well to romance novel tropes…is it any wonder that so many people thought “yes this is her man?” And then he takes lightning in the heart for her and reaches for her when he’s literally dying, I will never be normal about that either
#Zutara#Katara#Zuko#the southern raiders#Pro zutara#anti Bryke#I guess#I swear I’m not a Bryke anti but I feel like they just don’t get#The female gaze#and the fact that Zutara is so female gaze is kind of an accident and I find that fascinating#atla fandom critical#The southern raiders turned me into a Zutara shipper#one ep away from the finale#Zutara meta#My meta

Agatha All Along Episode 5 Theory: Why It’s Weird and Short
So Episode 5 was by far the shortest episode we’ve had so far for the series. It feels different from the other trials so far which causes it to feel…scrambled in a way. Now you could blame poor writing for the craziness of this episode (along with the abrupt ending), but I usually reserve that judgement for after a series ends.
Here’s what I think is going on. SPOILERS AHEAD!
Agatha’s trial being in this episode was a bit of a surprise, but let’s be real, the show is called Agatha All Along…do we really believe that our favorite dramatic sad backstory mommy issues-filled witch only gets ONE episode for her trial?
The Ouija board makes the objective for this task clear: Punish Agatha. A task that some of the coven clearly have no qualms carrying out. But let’s think about the sequence of events after that message is delivered.
The coven tries to tie up Agatha which fails after Agatha becomes possessed by her mother. Agatha’s mother says Agatha must be left behind which causes her to freak out. Alice tries to save Agatha which results in Agatha accidentally(?) killing her. Agatha is only stopped when Teen says her son’s name and the door to escape opens after Teen says Goodbye on the Ouija board.
Notice anything?
Agatha is never *technically* punished by her coven. Each trial so far involves a task that 1. is specific to one witch’s ability, 2. involves a clear objective that the coven eventually recognizes and reaches together, 3. ends with growth, both power and character wise, of the witch/coven. This episode feels off because the formula is off. And the formula is off because none of it’s real.
Episode 5 IS Agatha’s punishment. Every trial has stirred up unwanted tragic memories from the witch it’s related to. It is no coincidence that this episode hits every. single. one. of Agatha’s problems.
It starts with an Ouija Board - Agatha has killed a lot of people, not all of them on purpose. We already know Agatha loves to pretend to not feel anything, but now she is forced to directly interact with her victims.
Punish Agatha - The coven turns on Agatha surprisingly quick to carry out the trial and surround her while she is on the floor…just like her old coven betrayed her. She fears betrayal.
Evanora Harkness - Self-explanatory, she not only forcefully possesses Agatha (which could tie in to fear of lack of control thanks to Wanda), but tells her she was born evil, something that Agatha looks devastated to hear. Mommy issues galore.
“I’ll be good” - upon hearing that her coven may leave her behind, Agatha freaks out and begs for them to not leave her. Fear of abandonment.
Alice’s Death - Agatha seems horrified after killing Alice with her powers (just like she killed her mother and coven in the past), and the rest of the present coven, especially Teen, are horrified by her actions and don’t believe her.
Nicholas Scratch - A devastating name to hear. And his voice calling to her is just the cherry on top.
And after she leaves the trial? Teen turns on her using magic similar to Wanda’s and then throws Agatha off the path to kill her. And Rio is suddenly nowhere to be seen? Another tumblr user made an interesting point that the aspect ratio doesn’t return to normal like it usually does after a trial. Because all of this has been the precursor to Agatha’s actual trial.
This may be all in her mind and it’s up to her coven to help her, guess we won’t know for sure until next week.

⤕ Masterlist ⤕ Also on AO3 ⤕ Playlist

The scepter was lifeless yet again when you took it in your hands.
You didn’t really want to, scared of it starting to burn once again. Now that adrenaline had completely ran off, you understood that Alucard was right; you had, in fact, some sort of fever. Your forehead was covered by a thin layer of sweat and you felt unexpectedly hot, given the chilly night air. Your limbs also felt strangely weak as if you’d done some tiring exercise.
And your chest…
You remembered how your chest – your heart – seemed to burn with these three dead vampires, too. Burning you from within.
You wondered if you’d have burned with them if you kept holding it for much longer.
To your great relief, nothing strange happened when you touched the scepter again. It was exactly on the same spot you had dropped it.
Alucard knelt down near the burnt bodies. Smoke still steamed from them. He had a deep, serious frown in his face.
“Did you read the inscriptions of the scepter out loud?” He asked. You shook your head.
“No.” You looked down as Alucard got up and approached you again. “I didn’t do anything. I was just… scared. And angry.”
Alucard observed the scepter with the same frown. He touched the sun symbol softly.
“It’s still warm.” He mumbled to himself. “This scepter, for some reason, seems to be reacting to your feelings.”
You lifted your gaze to his face for the first time in a surprised expression.
That made a lot of sense.
You were frightened when you first held it. Your head was running with similar intense emotions when this strange reaction happened again. Maybe he was right… the scepter needed to be fueled by strong emotions to release its magic, whatever it was. Perhaps it didn’t even need to be you specifically, but anyone going through something similar.
You inhaled before asking – and Heavens, were you tired of asking this same question over and over again:
“Do you have any idea of what might’ve happened?”
You weren’t brave enough to look down at the corpses again, but Alucard got the message.
He sighed and closed his eyes for a moment; his shoulders dropped a bit as he crossed his arms. He looked frustrated.
“I hate not knowing what’s happening as much as you do,” he confessed. “But this doesn’t feel like Speaker magic, although we’ll have to check with a real Speaker before jumping to conclusions. And it’s not fire, either.” He pressed his lips together in a thoughtful expression. “It is Sun. The scepter either has the ability to somehow store sunlight, or it can replicate it.”
You nodded. There was no other explanation: the vampires burned as if they were, indeed, standing under the sunlight. You had seen Richter’s fire magic; although it was unnaturally blue, his flames weren’t different from regular fire. They burned, but they didn’t provide light as much as the scepter did at that moment.
Alucard held his chin. He looked at nowhere in particular.
“Sekhmet is the daughter of the Egyptian Sun god, Amun-Ra. She’s related to the Sun in many ways.”
You looked down at the scepter again.
“Do you think this belonged to her?”
He narrowed his eyes. “It doesn’t look Egyptian. You didn’t find it at the Egyptian gallery, either. Though it might not mean much, since the palace wasn’t all too well organized.” He dropped his arms to the sides of his body once again. “Didn’t you say you were translating the writings to our alphabet? Can I have a look at it?”
You hesitated.
The paper was safely folded and stored inside the pocket of your vest. It was the first thing you took from the floor as soon as you stepped into the alley. You wrote it with the intention of Alucard reading it in the first place.
And yet – you didn’t want to show it anymore. At least not at that moment.
Your mind was burning, and it had nothing to do with magic this time. You were overwhelmed by a number of different things; the strong emotions you felt, this new discovery involving the scepter, the sheer frustration of not knowing exactly was going on with you…
...And the hug. Heavens, the hug.
You had stopped crying. Adrenaline had ran off. Now you could think with clarity – and the more you thought about the intimacy you shared with Alucard mere minutes ago, the more embarrassed you felt. Not because you didn’t like it… well, perhaps you felt this way because you liked it.
Why were you feeling that way? It wasn’t the first time Alucard witnessed your vulnerability first hand. Oh… in fact, that was the reason. He had witnessed this vulnerability too many times in the span of 24 hours.
You felt weak. You felt like a nuisance. You felt like a child that had to be taken care of constantly.
That is not how you wanted Alucard – or anyone for that matter – to perceive you. But how could that be different when all you did the entire time you’d met them was getting hurt?
You desperately needed to avert his attention elsewhere. You needed him to stop looking at you for a moment, to focus somewhere else; you wanted to slide away from his view, to be nothing but an afterthought at the back of his mind. His gentle gaze burned. His soft touch burned. His scent which already permeated your clothes burned. Everything about him burned.
It burned in a different way than it did with Drolta or Erzsebet, however – because you didn’t hate him. Not at all. Alucard had shown nothing but respect and worry towards you.
And yet, it burned anyway, was overwhelming anyway, and that was disorienting. That was scary. You didn’t feel like you had the right to like it.
So you avoided his gaze once again and held the scepter tightly.
“Did everything go well with the Revolutionary Commune?” You asked in a quiet voice.
“...Yes,” Alucard clearly did not understand why you changed subjects so suddenly.
You nodded. “So I think this can wait for now. Can’t it?”
Alucard hesitated once again. “Ruby…”
“Please.” You reunited all of your will to not sound fragile anymore. You were tired of being fragile. “Erzsebet and her army are coming to Paris. This entire city needs to prepare. I know you already wasted way too much time with me. We should focus on what’s more important now.”
“You’re not a waste of time, Ruby.”
Your heart tightened.
Please, don’t be so kind to me. Don’t make me feel this way right now.
“B-But I’m right anyway. You know I’m right. Whatever is going on with me or this scepter – it’s not relevant anymore, not now that they retrieved the mummy.”
He kept silent for long seconds, which made you hold your breath with apprehension. Finally, Alucard sighed.
“Alright. We should go.” You almost sighed in relief. “Their headquarters have plenty of accommodations where you can rest in–“
“No!”
You finally looked at him again. You didn’t expect to blurt that out like this, but it escaped anyway. Alucard quirked one eyebrow up. You already felt heat creep in your cheeks.
“I don’t want to rest, I want to help. I’m not tired.”
He tilted his head to the side only slightly. A tiny, not-so-focused part of your brain remarked that this little quirk of his made him look like a curious owl. “You haven’t slept properly in three days and you have a high fever.”
“You haven’t slept, either. And the fever’s cooling down.” Why did they still insist in worrying about your physical condition? You shook your leg impatiently. “There must be something I can do, right? Anything.”
Anything to stop me from thinking about my healing condition and my unknown past and this strange scepter and my fear of being taken by Drolta again and remembering my old scars and to stop myself from wishing you’d hug me again right now and never let me go.
Alucard didn’t look sure about that yet.
You felt apprehensive and nervous and impatient.
You scooped the floor with your eyes quickly. Stepping away for a moment, you grabbed something on the floor before running towards him again.
You lifted the red string to his eye level.
“Do you still have yours?”
Alucard blinked. Then, he let another tired sigh and… smiled. That tiny smile he let slip when he thought you were acting funny.
He took his piece of red string from inside his coat.
“Care to help?”
You leaned the scepter on your chest, letting it go for a while, and took the string in your hands. You tied it around his right wrist while remembering that he could tie it himself very well – he had shown he could before – but chose to ask for help anyway and- well I guess this doesn’t mean anything.
Alucard tied your red string around your right wrist, too.
He held it softly for a second longer than necessary.
“If you feel anything strange, let me know.” Alucard asked. You nodded.
“I will.”
He patted your shoulder softly. “Come on.”
You followed him shortly, relieved that he wasn’t looking at you anymore – and, at the same time, desperately wishing he was.

In less than two hours, the peaceful Parisian night descended into chaos.
Multiple guards ran through the streets on horseback, spreading the warning in loud voices, awakening the citizens from their sleep. Windows and doors were opened, confused and dazed heads peeking from them, trying to understand what was happening. The urgency of their voices made hearts beat faster and apprehension fill the air. Husbands locked their wives inside their houses; mothers tried to calm down their scared children.
Their message was clear: every healthy man was being summoned to defend the city.
Soon, the Place de la Concorde was packed with a confused crowd. They wore a strange mix of pajamas and coats to protect them from the chilly night air; most faces, still puffy from sleep. Confused and anxious conversations hovered over the crowd. Mere hours ago, the last king of France had been executed on that same square. The platform of the guillotine was still set up. No one expected that another historical – and apocalyptical – event would unravel so soon.
At last, Robespierre stood up on the platform, and the entire crowd went silent. You didn’t know exactly who that man was, but he was certainly very respected.
“My brothers and sisters,” he started, his voice rising over any other. “I summoned you all here tonight to bring appalling news. Yesterday, we won one more battle against the monarchy that chained us under their feet for years. Today, we face another great enemy. Our city is being threatened by foreign forces that want to lock us in chains once again…”
You doubted this Robespierre had any idea of who Erszebet Bathory truly was, but he wasn’t far from the truth… at least when it came down to you. The most positive side of you hoped the Vampire Messiah would forget about you now that she retrieved Sekhmet’s mummy (as morbid and wrong as it sounded), but another part of you was almost certain that she wouldn’t… be it for a plausible reason or her plain possessiveness over you. Erzsebet didn’t like to lose anything. She was like a spoiled kid who never let go of her favorite toy… and you’d been Erzsebet’s favorite toy for as long as you could remember.
You zoned out for a moment, not paying attention to much of Robespierre’s speech. Every pair of eyes was focused on him. Men and women, curious teenagers, homeless children – in fact, there were homeless people of all ages… their eyes filled with growing apprehension and fear of the menace the man on the platform described. If Erzsebet and her court succeeded, there were little chances of hope for them. Erzsebet would rejoice in their fear. She would bathe in the blood spilled. She would murder the ones she deemed unattractive and feed on the women she deemed attractive; she would “share” with her court. She would turn the ones she deemed worthy into vampires against their will. The men would either serve as entertainment or as slaves for manpower. Then, the ones that survived would learn to not fight and not scream and not cry.
You knew the patterns very well.
No one should go through any of that. As much as you wished peace for yourself, as much as the incoming battle frightened you – the mere idea of being anywhere near Erzsebet or Drotla again and the understanding that they could and would take you back if everyone failed made your limbs go cold -, there was another feeling growing within you, too.
Anger.
It had always been there. Every second in Erzsebet’s presence was torture. You never respected her. You never felt any sympathy for her. You never thought she had any sort of quality at all. You knew that there was a time when your quarters were a literal cell in her palace’s underground, your clothes were rags, your food was just bread and water if there was any food at all. When you became docile and Erzsebet granted you privileges – a proper room, good food, beautiful gowns and jewels, compliments and compliments – your anger towards her did not decrease one bit. You never felt blessed or thankful over any of those “privileges”.
You were always so busy trying to simply survive the torture that this fire didn’t have time to spread. Three days away from them was all it took for it to burn in every corner of your soul.
You weren’t just angry. No, you hated her. Hated them. Every vampire from her court was as awful as her. You hated their smell and you hated how they had no respect for human life and you hated their pompous attires and parties and you hated the fact that you had to sit and watch as they killed hundreds of innocent humans in front of you, not having the power to do anything to stop them.
They had to pay.
You weren’t as strong as Annette or Richter or Alucard. You didn’t even know how to hold a bayonet or wield a sword. And yet, if there was anything you could do to help these people defeat her army, then you would.
“…We will not subject to anyone who wants to imprison us!” Robespierre boasted. The crowd cheered; fear and apprehension were replaced by rage and motivation in front of your eyes as the man’s speech progressed. Fists raised in the air, screams and whistles of support popped here and there. “We will not allow any self proclaimed queen to sit on a throne atop of us again! We will not allow anyone to take our liberty away from us!”
Robespierre made a long pause, eyeing the crowd in all directions. It seemed that everyone held their breaths in anticipation.
Then – he raised his fist in the air.
“This self proclaimed queen will feel the taste of our iron and the weight of our freedom! Woe to the one that stands in our way. We will fight!”
The crowd exploded in cheers.
More and more fists raised in the air, mirroring their leader. Vive la Révolution!, they chanted.
You had to admit – Robespierre was great at giving speeches. You felt motivated yourself.
A sigh by your side caught your attention.
Alucard didn’t look very impressed. His golden eyes were as hard as stone. Underneath the severity of his expression, you also saw a slight hint of annoyance.
“What’s the problem?” You asked hesitantly.
Alucard took a second to answer. He narrowed his eyes.
“I just don’t appreciate hypocrisy.” It didn’t look like he wanted to elaborate on that statement. “Come. We have to act before the heat of the speech vanishes.”
Indeed – the “heat” of the speech spread like true fire through the city, being carried by anyone that witnessed it. The Revolutionary Army took the lead, its generals reuniting to trace defensive strategies.
And yet, none of these generals seemed to have the same level of authority Alucard had.
You watched from the back of the room, almost hidden (yes, you said you wanted to help, but at that moment you were the only woman present in the middle of soldiers and that was quite uncomfortable because you attracted a lot of attention for some reason) as all these generals listened to anything Alucard had to say. You didn’t know exactly what the white-haired vampire had done to gain their respect so quickly, but apparently, his first introduction left quite the impression.
Alucard was soft spoken. He didn’t raise his voice in any moment, keeping the same usual quiet but deep and husky tone – and that seemed to be much more effective than screaming, because it forced everyone else to be quiet. Whenever he spoke up, silence filled the room. It seemed no one had the courage to argue with him, though everything Alucard proposed was highly intelligent and you’d have to be a fool to disagree.
You doubted any of these men had been in the presence of a vampire before. Probably never talked to one, at least. However, it seemed that everyone understood that they weren’t talking to a simple man. Standing in the middle of these humans, it became even more clear how Alucard stood out, and not just in appearance. That was the intellect and way of speaking of a person that had lived much, much longer than the human brain could process. It seemed that everyone could feel it, even if they didn’t know Alucard’s true age. He exuded quiet authority, unyielding and highly intelligent. Once again, it reminded you of a mountain. It is silent, has been there for thousands of years; no one can move it.
Alucard looked very noble.
You remembered Richter’s words at the forest. Well, he does look like a prince.
You were glad his attention wasn’t upon you at that moment. You wouldn’t have been able to hide your awe very well if it was.
Around an hour later, the soldiers left the building to spread the strategies. What they needed the most, counting on the collaboration of every citizen:
Salt.
A lot of salt.
Sacks, boxes and buckets of salt were brought to the streets. The army provided weapons – swords, knives, rifles, gunpowder, bayonets and even cannons which were carried to the entries of the city. Every weapon should be wiped with salt.
You busied yourself with that.
Without asking permission, you knelt down in front of a crate full of swords, pulled a bucket of salt closer and started the process of applying salt to the blades. Then, you put the “salted” ones into another empty crate.
It was an obvious task, but it ended up calling more attention than you expected… maybe because, again, there weren’t many other women around the headquarters of the Revolutionary Commune. Most women and children were being led to the outskirts of the city or locked inside houses that had basements as part of the evacuation tactics. You vehemently ignored the looks sent in your direction and just kept working.
Some moments later, you noticed that a young man started imitating you. He sat on the sidewalk and took a crate of weapons himself.
And then another man joined.
And then an older woman.
You heard her husband try to shush her back home, but she sent him an annoyed look.
“I won’t sit down and watch everyone fight. If there’s something I can do, then I’ll do it.” She retorted. He wasn’t brave enough to argue with her any further.
You were glad someone else shared this feeling.
It seemed to awaken some sort of camaraderie in that street, at least. Before, only the men that intended to fight were busy with the preparations. Then, you started to notice more people joining in; women and elders. They brought water, food, fruits, helped carrying crates from place to place.
Hours went by. You busied yourself with many other tasks after all the weapons were ready. The situation was beyond serious, but it was… nice. It was nice to be so busy doing something that you didn’t notice hours passing by. It was nice to help others. It was nice to not feel so useless for once. Under imprisonment, you didn’t have much to do other than sleeping. You weren’t used to this feeling of being so focused on a task that you could somehow brush your worries to the farthest corner of your mind, at least for some hours.
The sky got clear, but there was still much to be done. You only stopped for some minutes to eat an apple before going back to work.
“Aren’t you tired, mademoiselle?” One of the soldiers asked. He was probably around Richter’s age, which made you remember him and hope he was safe – but the similarities stopped there. This boy, Henri, was shorter and not even close to being as muscular as the Belmont. Curly ginger hair fell over his forehead; his fair skin was peppered by freckles.
“I’m fine. Thank you for worrying,” you dismissed politely.
“Are you sure?” Another young soldier asked; his name was… Charles? Yes, you thought that was it. His hair was black and he was a tiny bit taller than Henri. “You’ve been working the entire night, mademoiselle. You should rest.”
“I don’t get tired easily,” you dismissed again, smiling awkwardly.
“Do you want water? Do you want to eat?” Another soldier asked… what was his name? You didn’t remember this one. “Please, if you need anything at all, let me know.”
“L-Let me know, too,” Henri, the ginger, intervened. Why did he send this other soldier a slightly annoyed look? “Actually, I asked her first.”
“And? I’m just worried about mademoiselle’s well being.”
“I am more worried than you are.”
“I doubt it.”
You slipped away from them quietly before they could notice.
Well.
The men here seemed to be very eager to protect you.
All the attention you were receiving was awkward. You weren’t used to so many people wanting to talk to you. Especially not men. Erzsebet never let any men get too close to you for some reason. The guards that kept your quarters and dragged you to places weren’t allowed to talk to you.
These soldiers were… nice in an odd way.
But you couldn’t bring yourself to consider the intentions behind their kindness, because every time you looked at them, you thought of how low their chances of survival were.
You knew Erzsebet’s forces. She had many powerful vampires under her control, not to mention the night creatures. The Vampire Messiah herself was enough of a threat; whenever she summoned Sekhmet, it seemed that air got heavier, as if the atmosphere around her submitted to her power. You couldn’t even imagine how powerful she would be after reuniting with the second half of her soul…
The human forces, on the other hand…
A bunch of civilians wearing soldier uniforms didn’t make them real soldiers. And in between the soldiers, there were barely any warriors. Warriors have expertise in real battle. Warriors carry in their eyes and in their postures the readiness to kill – not because they like it, but because they understand that in order to keep, sometimes you have to take. A real warrior is easily spotted in a crowd.
Other than Alucard? There were barely any.
You doubted many of these men had ever killed a chicken, let alone a vampire.
You tried to be positive, but it was impossible as you distributed more uniforms on the street and analyzed the “soldiers”. A big line was formed in front of you. Smiley man after smiley man. You handed them the uniforms, trying to smile back, but it was quite impossible. Not muscular enough. Not enough callouses. This man is frightened. This man has no idea what he’s getting himself into. This man has awful posture. This man won’t last a second in the battlefield. This man… why did he wink at me?
It was so, so bad.
Maybe if the city had time to actually prepare, to reunite a real army instead of counting on its citizens last minute… maybe they’d have a chance then. Hell, you were trying to be positive, trying to not be frightened, but it was getting hard…
The sound of someone cleaning their throat caught your attention.
You lifted your gaze once again to an unknown man. He was short, wore simple clothes and had a lot of hair missing… but a kind smile adorned his features – kinder than most of the men that stood in front of you, actually.
You forced yourself to smile back and handed him another uniform. The man took it in his hands and inhaled.
“Mademoiselle,” he started, and it somehow caught the attention of the other men that stood nearby. None of them had really spoken to you, just resigning themselves to saying ‘thank you’ and leaving the line. “Y-Your efforts into helping all of us and your kind smile will be what fuels my courage in the battle to come.”
Completely taken by surprise, you froze and stared at him for some seconds.
“Uh… thank you,” your smile got awkward again. Why was everyone looking at you? That wasn’t very comfortable. “I-I mean– I am glad to be an incentive for you to fight, b-but your biggest motive should be to protect your freedom, isn’t it?”
The man got speechless for some reason.
Oh. Maybe I should’ve kept my mouth shut.
You already felt your fingers shaking and your heart beating faster with embarrassment–
“Beautiful!”
What?
Another man behind in line said loudly. Why were his eyes glowing as he looked at you?
“Beautiful words!” He started clapping.
What?
“You are right, mademoiselle! What encouraging words!” Another man boasted.
“We are fighting for the liberty of our country!”
“Vive la Révolution!”
And then they were all chanting with their fists in the air.
You stood there with your mouth opened, not understanding what the hell just happened. Beautiful words? Weren’t you stating the obvious? You just wanted to take his attention away from you. Why did they all get so excited all of sudden?
What was wrong with these men?
But then, a familiar voice caught your attention, making you forget about the entire embarrassing situation completely.
Richter’s voice.
You turned around to see him and Annette approaching at fast steps.
Immediate relief washed over your body.
You looked around. The line was still pretty long… oh! There was Henri. You waved at him, and the boy approached like an excited puppy. “Would you take my place? Thank you,” you didn’t wait for him to reply, however, not did you notice that the other men waiting in line didn’t really like that you ran away from your position.
You met each other on the sidewalk.
“Are you guys okay? Did you get hurt?” You blurted out immediately as soon as you got close enough. Both of them looked tired, but other than that, no injuries.
“How are you asking that?” Richter seemed to be in disbelief. “Last time we saw you, you were bleeding to death. Are you okay?”
You instinctively looked down at your own body and extended your arms, as if to show them that there were no wounds.
“I’ve healed,” you said with simplicity. Because it was that simple, and you didn’t understand why they didn’t understand that yet.
It didn’t seem to ease any of Annette’s guilt.
That was what you wanted the least.
The girl in yellow dropped her shoulders, the corners of her mouth turned downwards.
“I am so sorry, Ruby,” her voice was somewhat shy. “Because of me, you got hurt. I… I should’ve been more careful…”
She looked up at you again when you rested your hand on her shoulder hesitantly.
You weren’t good with physical touch, but that seemed appropriate at the moment.
“That’s not what happened.” You started in a calm voice. In fact, that was the most level headed you’ve ever heard yourself… where was that coming from? “I jumped in front of you because I didn’t want you to get hurt. I did it. There’s nothing to feel guilty about.”
Annette seemed a bit surprised by your actions. Well, you were surprised, too. But it seemed to ease whatever she was feeling, even if just a bit; she managed to offer you a tiny smile.
Richter put his hands on each side of his waist and looked around with a frown. “The city is in chaos. What happened?”
“Robespierre called for all citizens to join battalions in their neighborhoods.”
This new voice startled you slightly.
You hadn’t noticed Alucard approaching. You knew he was close – in fact, he stood somewhere around you the entire time; Alucard himself was too busy, but he was always somewhere in your field of view, although you didn’t really interact the entire time.
“Legions of volunteers are taking positions around the city,” he concluded. It was interesting how his voice became just a tiny bit less dull now compared to when he talked to soldiers or other unknown people.
“Do you think they’re ready for what’s coming?” Richter asked.
Alucard hesitated.
You exchanged a knowing look.
They weren’t. He knew it. You knew it. But… that was all you had for now.
He looked back at Richter with his eyebrows slightly turned upwards. “...An impassioned speech can make even the weakest man believe he’s brave.”
There was no better way to describe the current situation.
Richter and Annette eyed each other. The Belmont boy seemed to hesitate for a moment and cleared his throat as if building up courage – and then you remembered that the last time he saw Alucard, they weren’t exactly on good terms.
“So… I know things didn’t work out at the Louvre, but maybe all isn’t lost.”
Alucard quirked one eyebrow up. You held your breath in anticipation.
“I have a plan, and I think it’s going to work,” it was Annette’s turn to speak.
“If we work together,” Richter concluded.
The white-haired vampire observed them in silence for some moments, while the three of you looked at him in anticipation back.
Finally, he closed his eyes for a moment and nodded.
“Very well. What’s your plan?”

The Tailleur de Jordan was a small establishment you had hidden your scepter the night before, just two streets away from there. As the citizens were being evacuated, places like that were empty and ready to use. It would be perfect for what Annette needed to do – though it immediately filled you with worry.
“That was what the spirits were trying to tell you?” You asked.
Annette nodded. “...I believe so. It’s difficult to be certain about anything, but this is the best chance we have.” Alucard unlocked the door and stepped aside. Annette walked in first. “This will do,” she stated after a quick look.
The tailor shop was small. It had a couple of chairs, a large windowsill, a table, a desk, cabinets filled with all types of fabric in multiple colors, threads, needles, scissors… it had somewhat of a cozy atmosphere. You hoped whoever owned it was somewhere safe – and you hoped they’d survive the incoming battle to take this place back.
As the two men pushed furniture from the center of the room, you rushed to find Annette some chalk. When you turned around to hand it to her, she was eyeing the scepter with curiosity. It was leaning on a table in the corner of the room, exactly where you left it.
She looked at you with one quirked eyebrow.
“...It’s hard to explain,” you said.
Annette shrugged and took the white chalk from your hand.
She knelt on the floor and started to draw an intricate symbol you’d never seen before. It resembled a fleur de lis, though it was much more complicated. After she finished, she put the chalk aside and sat in front of it with crossed legs.
Then, she took a deep breath.
“My soul may be away from my body for a while,” she explained quietly.
Richter folded a piece of fabric and placed it behind her, offering Annette a gentle smile, before sitting by her side on the floor.
“Just in case.”
She reciprocated his smile.
You sat down on a chair in the corner of the room beside the scepter, watching the entire scene in silence. Alucard stood near them in the other side of it.
Annette looked down again. For the first time, you saw a hint of fear in her eyes… and you felt fear for her, too. She was going to walk into a path where no one could follow or help her. She’d be truly alone in this – and if she failed, then you’d really have no chance. You already knew the “army” out there was hopeless.
“Cécile always warns that our souls mustn’t get lost in the spirit world,” she explained in that same quiet tone.
“What happens if they do?” Alucard asked.
“...I will never wake up.”
Richter gasped.
He rested his hand over hers. And then… it was happening again. That intimacy they shared that made you feel like an intruder. It seemed that, in these moments, they were alone – but in a delicate, pure way; it wasn’t as if they were ignoring you and Alucard. They were simply… too lost in each other to care about anything else.
It was beautiful to witness, in a way.
“We’ll be here. Don’t be afraid.” Richter’s voice was barely a whisper. “Maybe it’ll help you find your way back.”
They exchanged a final sweet look before the Belmont moved away.
Annette inhaled deeply. She pressed her hands together in a praying position and closed her eyes before chanting something in a language you didn’t understand.
She chanted a few times. Her voice got slower. She opened her eyes – but they seemed empty.
“Annette?” Richter called.
She stopped talking. Her body stopped moving. Her chest moved almost imperceptibly – the calm breathing of someone asleep. Her eyes were opened, but she wasn’t seeing anything anymore.
Her soul was gone.
It was a chilling sight to witness.
Richter held her hand. He knew she wasn’t there anymore, but he kept repeating “I’ll be here” anyway.
The care he had for her was deeper than you first assumed…
You crossed your arms and rested your back on the chair. It wasn’t going to be a fast process. So… there was nothing you could do but wait.
Wait…
And wait.
A part of Sekhmet’s soul must be in the spirit world, Annette had explained. If I find it and retrieve it, we may have a chance.
A third part of Sekhmet’s soul…
If Annette was right, than it’s impossible that Drolta didn’t know about it already. She was the goddess’ priestess, after all. Could it be that she tried to retrieve this third part of Sekhmet’s soul before? Maybe it was impossible for her, as it was a spiritual journey, not physical. Perhaps that’s why she didn’t succeed and kept looking for Sekhmet’s mummy.
Time went by. Minutes turned to an hour. Richter walked from side to side nervously, biting his nails, while you and Alucard didn’t move or talk at all. After a few more minutes, Alucard approached and leaned on the wall beside you with his arms crossed.
“You should try to sleep for now.”
You looked up at him and shook your head.
“I’m not sleepy.”
He sent a side eye at your blatant lie. “I’ll repeat it. You haven’t slept properly in almost four days.”
“You haven’t slept at all in almost four days, either.”
“And I can keep awake for much longer. How about you?”
...You’d never been awake for this long, actually. He got you.
You sighed and crossed your arms, sinking in the chair even more. “I don’t want to sleep. What if something important happens?”
“He won’t be quiet about it. You’ll wake up in no time,” Alucard said jokingly.
“I heard that,” Richter almost pouted. It seems he didn’t really like when both of you chuckled at him.
You dropped your voice to a whisper, hoping Richter wouldn’t hear you from the other side of the room.
“Don’t be mean to him.”
Alucard paused.
You had the strong impression he wanted to roll his eyes but held himself back. The white-haired vampire sighed and tilted his head to the side.
“I won’t if you sleep for a bit.”
It was your turn to let a deep sigh. “No promises.”
“No promises on my part, either.”
He sent you a last lighthearted look, the hint of a smile on his lips, before walking back to the windowsill.
The thing is, your eyelids were heavy. But you genuinely didn’t want to miss anything. One week ago, your life was basically a long, confusing sleep; it was the first time you’d been awake for so long, experiencing so many new things – good and bad – and it was the first time your mind was so clear. No memory lapses, no confusion; you knew where you were all the time, there were no blank spaces in between events. You didn’t want it to go away. If Alucard could keep awake for much longer, you could too, right? Maybe your brain would heal the sleep. Maybe if you pushed a little longer you wouldn’t feel tired anymore–
Pitch black.

“Come back here!”
You run around the alleys after that little rat. Heavens, why does ??? have to be so disobedient?! Although he’s screaming, you’re pretty sure he likes being chased like this. He loves pissing you off for some reason.
But his legs are much shorter than yours, and without much effort, you grab him by the collar.
??? looks at you with the round eyes of a scared pup.
“What are you doing here?!” You hiss, crouching down to get to his eye level and holding him by both arms. “I told you over a hundred times, you’re not allowed inside!”
“I was curious!”
“I don’t care!” ??? shrieks at your loud reprimands. You can’t bring yourself to soften; he has to understand that his actions have consequences once and for all. “There are places you’re not allowed to get in! Do you want me to get into trouble because of you?!”
??? crosses his arms and looks down, pouting. “I-I just wanted someone to play with!”
You huff and roll your eyes. “Oh, please. You have plenty of friends. You can’t fool me with that.” He sticks his tongue out at you; you ruffle his hair violently in return. “Go back home right now. And if I catch you here again, I’ll hang you by your feet and let you dry in the sun like a peace of meat. Did you understand?!”
“You’re annoying! I hate you!”
??? runs off. You gasp out loud, outraged.
“I’ll kill you when I get home!”

You woke up with a soft gasp.
For some seconds, you were completely disoriented. You blinked several times, trying to understand what was happening.
Oh.
You were exactly on the same spot as before. Sitting on the wooden chair. A long, soft fabric was put over your body, serving as a blanket.
...You ended up sleeping, after all.
And for a long time.
You knew it not only because your body ached from sleeping while sitting in a hard wooden chair – your neck was especially painful –, but because the Sun was gone. Judging by the height of the moon in the sky, it was already a little over midnight. It brightly illuminated the entire tailor shop through the large window, bathing it in silver light; one candle was lit over the desk, but it wasn’t really necessary.
You massaged your neck, frowning, and looked to your right side. Richter was sleeping over the desk right beside you, snoring softly and drooling a bit. It made you chuckle. Annette hadn’t moved a centimeter. You wondered if she’d feel pain when she “came back”; not moving for so many hours, not drinking water or eating…
“You should sleep a bit more.”
Alucard’s quiet voice reached your ears and immediately made you shiver… for some reason. He was being quieter than usual as to not wake Richter up or disturb Annette.
The white-haired vampire was comfortably sitting on the windowsill with his arms crossed, one of his legs over the wooden platform. The usual serenity adorned his features. Moonlight bathed him directly through the window, making his hair look like strands of pure braided silver. His long eyelashes cast a soft shadow over his golden eyes.
You rubbed your eyes and forehead. Of course, you were trying to brush the sleep away, but you also were trying to pretend his sole image didn’t make your stomach feel funny.
“I already slept too much,” you whispered back.
Alucard observed you in silence for some seconds. He pointed at something with his finger; a basket with some apples right beside Richter’s head.
Sure. You needed to eat. You haven’t had lunch at all. You held one of the apples and took a bite.
You munched in silence for some moments.
A silent battle took place within you.
You… wanted to approach him. You hadn’t really talked the entire day, too busy in your tasks to have a moment – and as stupid as it was because, well, he’d been near you the entire time, you… missed him. But you didn’t know if you should approach him at all. What if Alucard didn’t want to be disturbed? There was no reason for you to leave your spot in the room.
The hesitance only got worse because now, every time you looked at him, you remembered the hug. It was so comforting at that moment… why did you feel so embarrassed of yourself about it now? Alucard took the initiative to hug you first. There was nothing wrong with that, was it? Wasn’t it common for friends to hug each other? Well, you never had a friend before, you couldn’t tell if it was true...
Were you his friend in the first place? Did Alucard consider you a friend?
The truth is… you felt that something shifted in your “relationship” with him since that hug, even if it was all just in your head. You couldn’t tell exactly what. Maybe you were acting like a fool. Alucard probably didn’t stop to think about it even once.
You took another bite.
Alucard wouldn’t be mean to you, would he? He hadn’t been until that point. Not even once. So, why were you hesitating?
You gulped and got up from the chair.
Still holding the blanket, you crossed the room, tip toeing to not make much noise. Your eyes were glued on Annette’s immobile figure, both because you didn’t want to touch her by accident and because you didn’t want to make eye contact with Alucard yet. You knew he was watching you.
You sat on the other side of the windowsill, facing him. As the window was large, it was a considerable distance, which made the situation a bit less awkward for you. You put both legs over the windowsill and brought your knees close to your body, covering them with the blanket.
The only sound filling the room was of Richter’s soft snoring and your quiet munching.
It was peaceful. You didn’t expect you’d feel any peace in the hours that preceded the hell that would unleash upon the city. It was even a bit ironic how beautiful the moon looked that night.
After finishing eating the apple, you placed the stem aside and stayed in silence for some more minutes.
It took courage to speak up.
“Do you think they still need help out there?” Your voice was quiet.
Alucard didn’t take his eyes off the window.
“We already did everything we could to help them.” His deep, husky voice sounded even more soothing than usual for some reason. It was truly admirable how relaxed he could be in that moment, considering what awaited you in the near future. “They have all the instructions. They’ll know what to do.”
It was kind of him to include you in this. Your “help” wasn’t as significant as his; Alucard not only gave instructions, but led the entire defensive strategy. But you decided not to feel bad about that… not at that moment.
You put your hands over your knees and adjusted your posture a bit better.
“...Can I ask you something?”
Alucard turned his gaze to you for the first time, nodding.
“What did you mean back there at the square? When you said you don’t appreciate hypocrisy?”
The white-haired vampire exhaled softly; his expression got a tiny bit tense. You were under the impression he was expecting you to ask something else…
“That whole speech about liberty.” He started. His voice became more serious, a slight hint of annoyance once again. “It’s all surface level, you see. Very selfish. They talk about fighting for freedom whilst still keeping colonies under their power, refusing to let them be independent.” Alucard’s eyes landed on Annette. “Annette’s home country, Saint-Domingue, is one of these colonies. They are currently battling for independence over there. Annette herself was a slave; she had to fight for her own freedom.”
You widened your eyes and immediately looked at her as well.
Annette used to be a slave?!
Suddenly – many things about her started to make sense. The mark on her right hand… her words to you at the forest; “I understand how you feel”, she said. “Those people… they keep haunting you. On your sleep, or even when you’re awake”, she said.
“To be truly freed is to not be afraid.”
You tightened your hands on the blanket. Annette… she really could understand you better than anyone else. And she still came to this country to fight for the people that wouldn’t fight for her…
“Why did she even agree to help them?” You wondered in disbelief.
“She understands that Erzsebet will become a much bigger menace to the whole world if she’s not stopped in time.” Alucard tightened his eyes. “The people of France, like Richter and Maria, aren’t wrong for fighting against the monarchy. But it’s the leaderships of the Revolution that are hypocrites. If it’s not liberty for all, then it’s no liberty at all.”
You looked at Annette again.
She was so much stronger than you imagined… not only because she was a powerful witch or because she was, at that moment, wandering alone in the spirit world; Annette had a noble soul. She was strong enough to overcome her fears and fight for herself.
You wondered if you’d be like her one day.
You wanted to be like her.
To be truly freed is to not be afraid.
Well… if you wanted to be like her, you’d have to overcome your fears, too. And your hesitancy.
You hugged your own legs and stared at the fabric of the blanket, gathering the courage to speak these next words out loud. If you spoke them, they would become more real. A part of you was scared of that fact.
“I… I think I have a son.”
Alucard immediately whipped his head at your whispered confession.
Although he was visibly surprised, he didn’t say anything, waiting for you to continue.
“...Or a brother. I’m not sure.”
The white-haired vampire narrowed his eyes; he was the one that seemed to hesitate now, choosing his words carefully. “What makes you think that?”
You scratched your head nervously and frowned. “This dream I just had. I barely ever dream about anything… my sleep is usually empty. B-But I dreamed of this little boy that looks like me and…”
And I loved him.
I loved the little boy I saw in my dream with all my heart. I missed him the moment I opened my eyes and realized he wasn’t real.
You gulped, passed your hand over your face again. “Or maybe I’m still emotional over what happened to Oliver. I don’t know.” You shook your head, immediately feeling regret and embarrassment for admitting something so personal. Why would Alucard want to know about that anyway? “F-Forget about it. Just a dream, right? I guess it’s not important…”
“If it’s important to you, then it’s important.” Alucard held his chin and looked down, pensive. “Perhaps your memories are coming back in the form of dreams.”
It was a bit amazing how Alucard could reassure you with a blank expression on his face – as if he didn’t understand the impact his words had on you. You looked down at your knees again, that familiar heat already increasing on the back of your neck and cheeks.
“I-Is it common?” You tried to act like his words didn’t make you feel even more emotional.
“I’m afraid I can’t tell. I’ve… never suffered of memory loss before.” He shrugged. “But the mind works in mysterious ways, especially if we consider that your memories might’ve been taken away by magic.”
You exhaled and grabbed some strands of hair at the top of your head nervously again, as if trying to forcefully grab a memory from your brain.
“Why can’t I remember relevant things? Or at least straightforward things?” You whined to yourself. “Small, useless things come to me, but nothing that could help me find out who I am.”
Alucard leaned forward slightly, seeming interested.
“What type of things do you remember?” He asked softly.
You hummed.
“...I can’t call these things memories. They’re more like… things I know. Like…” You pressed your lips together. “I know the difference between a poisonous mushroom and an edible one. No one taught me that, I just know it. Or… there’s many animals I know of, though I don’t remember ever seeing them before. And…”
You looked out the window towards the sky. Alucard watched you with curiosity.
You pointed towards a specific star.
“That’s Mars.” Alucard looked subtly surprised. “Right in the middle of the Gemini constellation. Pollux, Castor…” You searched for something else in the sky. “And there… Betelgeuse, Bellatrix... the Orion constellation. And right over there–“ You pointed a bit downwards. “That’s Jupiter, in the middle of Taurus. And that star right beside it… it’s…” Your frown deepened and you hummed, trying to remember its name. “It’s…”
“Aldebaran.”
You looked back at Alucard.
He had the tiniest of the smiles on his lips.
“Yes. Aldebaran.” You confirmed, unable to hide your tiny smile that mirrored his.
“That’s why you look at the night sky so much? You were remembering?”
Oh.
You didn’t know Alucard paid attention to that.
You averted your gaze from his, trying to hide your shyness. “M-My point is: why do I remember these small things, and nothing more relevant… like where do I come from or my real name?”
Alucard leaned his back on the wall once more and looked out the window. You watched as serenity took the lead over his features again – being accompanied by quiet sorrow. That was new. You hadn’t seen him show an expression like that before.
...He looked quite vulnerable at that moment.
“My father… was many things,” he began, which immediately surprised you and locked all your attention over him. Alucard was finally letting one more piece of information about him; these moments were rare. You cherished them deeply. His voice was featherlight, mirroring the quiet vulnerability of his expression. “A scholar, a philosopher, an alchemist… and he was also an astronomer. He was passionate about the stars.”
A small sad smile appeared on his lips.
That was another new expression.
That was the same man that led an entire room full of generals with unyielding authority; the same man you’d seen kill vampires ruthlessly. A real warrior. And yet, at that moment, locked inside this small tailor shop with no more witnesses other than you, Alucard was letting himself be fragile for a moment.
Perhaps it was inappropriate of you to think this way – but at that moment, with the silver moonlight kissing his saddened image, he had never looked more beautiful.
The intricate paintings you’d seen at the Louvre did not compare to him.
“He taught me all about it when I was a child,” Alucard continued softly. “Constellations. Comets. Planets… I never forgot any of it.” He closed his eyes for a moment before looking down. “What I mean with that is… I don’t really use this knowledge in my life other than to know the seasons of the year. Some magicians are benefited by the positions of celestial bodies, but they don’t affect the type of magic I use. And yet…” He finally looked up at you again. “This knowledge isn’t small or useless to me; because it was taught by someone I loved.”
For some reason, you felt your heart ache at his words.
Of course, you understood what he meant; he was trying to help, to change your perspective, to not deem that your simple “knowledge” was useless. However, what you noticed the most was the quiet sadness in his eyes, the quiet longing. You remembered, once again, the fact that Alucard was centuries old. Still, he visibly talked about his father with some sort of affection. Longing.
...He’d been missing someone for centuries?
But you remembered, once again, that his father was Dracula. The name that evoked primal fear in you; the vampire that, according to Richter, almost wiped out mankind. He must’ve been as dangerous as Erzsebet or even worse. Even so, Alucard seemed to miss him… it made the whole situation so much more painful.
Did Alucard have to kill someone he loved…?
Why did it make you so sad?
Maybe it wasn’t that serious to him; maybe it was a scar that had already healed long ago. Maybe you were being too emotional again. But the simple idea of Alucard having to go through something so horrible ached. You… you wished there was something you could do for him. If you could comfort him the way he comforted you so many times.
...You wondered if he’d mind if you came closer. If he’d be surprised if you draped your arms around his shoulders; if he’d push you away if you made him rest his head on your chest, the same way he did to you yesterday. You wondered if he’d appreciate if you held him like that; if he’d like if you caressed his hair, tangling your fingers on his silvery strands. You… you wondered if it would make him feel a bit better. If he’d sigh, if he would cage his arms around your waist and reciprocate it.
You didn’t just wonder it; you craved it. Because as much as his touch and his gaze and his eyes burned, you craved that burn. It wouldn’t hurt you – at least, not in the ways you were used to.
It was scary.
If you were a little more brave, you would’ve moved. You would’ve made your imagination come true.
...But once again, you were reminded that there wasn’t time for any of that.
You felt a cold shiver run your spine, which immediately snapped you out of your trance. What surprised you, however, is that you weren’t the only one; Alucard also frowned and immediately straightened his posture, putting both feet on the floor again.
Both of you turned to Annette.
Both of you watched in quiet shock when she started to float in the air, keeping her meditation position.
Both of you stood up.
“...Is this normal?” You whispered.
“I don’t know.” He whispered back.
“What do we do?”
“There’s nothing we can do.”
“I should wake–“
“No.” Alucard held your arm softly before you took one more step. “Let the boy sleep. There’s nothing he can do, either. He’ll just be even more stressed.”
You gulped and nodded, sitting on the windowsill again and hoping that whatever battle Annette was facing, she’d be strong enough to win.

Hours went by. The sun raised in the sky again – and with him, apprehension beyond words.
Before, Richter was the only one walking from side to side and biting nails; now, you felt like a pile of anxiety yourself, watching as Annette didn’t send any sign that she was close to coming back. Two hours ago, she had gasped for a moment as if she was underwater; after that, her expression went back to being blank and she stopped levitating, her body slowly getting down on the floor again.
No more reactions after that.
The streets were packed with soldiers once more. You looked out the window and back to her nervously. What if she got lost in the spirit world? What if she never came back?
Even Alucard was beginning to show hints of anxiety. He chose to stay in the same spot by the window, but his eyes wandered outside as well. He had taken responsibility over the entire operation, after all. Despite what he said past night, you knew he also worried for everyone.
You stopped beside him with crossed arms. Richter couldn’t stay still for a moment. The three of you watched Annette in silence.
You didn’t want Richter to hear your question. Hell, you didn’t want to voice that yourself – but it had to be asked at some point.
“Alucard, what if… what if she…” you whispered; yet, you weren’t brave enough to finish that sentence.
What if she doesn’t make it?
Alucard understood anyway.
“We’ll fight.” He replied with simplicity. “There’s nothing else we can do.”
You closed your eyes for a moment. Annette never coming back… Erzsebet possessing the true power of Sekhmet… all the unprepared soldiers out there… you were experiencing the worst case scenario. You wished there was something else you could do. Anything to help her.
Minutes went by. Minutes. Minutes…
You… started to feel a strange weakness in the pit of your stomach.
Your legs felt wobbly. It wasn’t due to hunger or anxiety this time; you knew it. This sensation was familiar – albeit much weaker than the other times you had felt it.
You gasped and turned around to face the window.
“No.” You whispered in disbelief.
Alucard and Richter were surprised by your sudden reaction; then, they focused on the window as well.
On the sky.
The sun was beginning to be covered by a shadow.
Slowly, the sky got a sickening red color as the eclipse progressed; sunlight was starting to vanish. You heard rushed voices and screams out there, people running on the streets, locking themselves inside their homes, soldiers yelling orders. A sentiment of fear grew almost palpable over the whole city.
Alucard’s suspicions were right.
With the second half of Sekhmet’s soul, Erzsebet did not need you anymore to summon an eclipse.
You already knew he was most certainly right, but you foolishly tried to be positive. Maybe she won’t be able to summon an eclipse anyway.
All your thin hopes were shattered.
It was impossible to ease your aching heart or calm your shaking hands. The eclipse was the bad omen that indicated her approach. Was Erzsebet close by already? Was her army marching near the borders of Paris?
You couldn’t take your eyes off the window anymore or shut your loud mind – and that’s why you didn’t notice Richter calling Annette behind you.
Suddenly – heat.
You turned around in a jump in time to see Annette being involved in golden light.
Richter was sent flying back and hit his back against a cabinet. Wind made everyone’s clothes and hair sway; you had to protect your eyes with your arm to not be blinded. It became hot hot hot hot inside the atelier; you felt goosebumps roam your skin, your stomach drop, a certain dizziness – the effects of standing near so much power.
Finally – the light diminished. You put your arm down slowly and opened your eyes.
A shocked gasp escaped past your lips.
Annette levitated in the air some centimeters away from the floor; her hair suddenly got longer, her braids cascading over her shoulders like a beautiful lion’s mane. She wore an ancient Egyptian red attire adorned with details in gold. Her closed eyes were painted with blue and red kohl. She had a golden aura around her; the temperature inside the atelier increased significantly.
She carried so much power that the air trembled.
“...Annette?” Richter called hesitantly – but you already knew, and he knew as well, that this wasn’t Annette anymore.
“Where is she?” she spoke; her voice was distorted – beyond her normal voice, there was another female voice speaking upon it, too.
Annette finally opened her eyes. They looked like ponds of pure melted gold; her pupils, vertical like a cat’s.
“Where is this Erzsebet?” she demanded with the authority of a queen.
No… not a queen. A goddess.
Annette wasn’t in front of you anymore. Sekhmet was.
It made all the tiny hairs in your arms and at the back of your neck raise; your breath got difficult. This sensation was familiar – you had witnessed Erzsebet being possessed by Sekhmet’s power before. And yet, it felt slightly different now. The fear wasn’t accompanied by menace or cruelty. It felt more like witnessing a raging tornado coming towards you.
Annette had succeeded.
Great, this was great. Your chances in battle increased significantly with such a powerful ally; more importantly, Annette was alive. Maybe the goddess had possessed her body for a while, but it meant that her consciousness was still there somehow, maybe watching everything in the back of her mind…
Annette– Sekhmet extended her arms, watching everything with a high chin.
“My three souls must be rejoined and the cosmic balance restored,” she said in that same chilling, proud tone. “Though this mortal vessel might be too fragile for the souls of a god.”
Richter tightened his fists; sweat dripped down his temples. You’d never seen him look so worried as in that moment. The Belmont boy stepped forward.
“We will lead you to her. Erzsebet is coming to this city.”
Sekhmet did not show any reaction. It was a bit unsettling to see Annette’s face carrying that ferocious, yet soulless expression–
But then, she laid eyes on you for the first time.
Her gaze was piercing. It made you feel exposed for some reason; as if she was able to see inside of you, inside your soul.
Her eyes scanned your face, then laid on your chest for some moments.
Sekhmet frowned like a feral cat.
It was the first facial expression she showed.
“She must not be close to me.”
You froze in place, absolutely speechless.
W...What?!
Both Alucard and Richter looked from Sekhmet to you rapidly, as shocked as you. What did she mean? Why couldn’t you be close to her? She– She didn’t like you? Did it have anything to do with your involvement with Erzsebet? What was the problem?!
“Don’t make me repeat myself, human,” Sekhmet hissed again, this time addressing Richter; the tailor shop trembled at her anger. Alucard was the only one that didn’t flinch or move. “Where is this Erzsebet?! Lead me to her!”
Richter looked back at you one more time, sending you an apologetic look. The goddess was impatient – and it wasn’t a good idea to make her wait, especially while she inhabited Annette’s body. No one had any idea if it’d be harmful for her to be possessed for so long.
The Belmont boy gulped and walked towards the door, unlocking it and walking out. Sekhmet followed him, levitating out of the atelier.
You stood there, shell-shocked, not knowing how to react.
Alucard’s touch took you out of that state.
He put both hands over your shoulders, blocking the sight of the floating goddess out there and forcing you to lock all of your attention on him. Severity weighed on his features; he had an accentuated frown, his jaw was tightened. And yet, he somehow still looked down at you with care.
“It’d already be best for you to keep out of sight,” his tone indicated that he was not willing to debate this.
You tightened your fists, your shoulders dropped. You knew he was right regardless of Sekhmet’s demand. You knew you didn’t know how to wield a sword or a rifle; you knew you’d be useless in battle. You weren’t a powerful magician or a warrior like these two. You weren’t even like the civilians in uniforms out there – they’d be more useful than you.
But even so… even so…
Alucard cupped your cheek softly.
Maybe it was the fact that you weren’t in panic as you were before that made his gesture burn right away. It burned burned burned much more than Sekhmet’s hot power out there; it spread warmth through your body, made your chest tighten. Heavens, it burned so much; his caring gaze, his gentle touch, his sweet smell… everything burned–
But oh god – how you wanted to burn in this fire.
The rushed voices and steps out there got muffled. It seemed that time itself slowed down for a moment while you looked into each other’s eyes.
“I’ve failed you two times before,” Alucard said in a smooth, yet determined tone; his thumb caressed your cheek gently. “I promise I won’t fail you again. Erzsebet and Drolta won’t get anywhere near you.”
You didn’t know what to answer.
Alucard was the first person to ever stand up for you; the first person to ever protect you, to make you feel safe. Yes, maybe you were being too emotional. Maybe you were letting your emotions take the lead instead of sanity. But how could you not feel this affection towards him in situations like this?
You believed him. You trusted him.
You nodded.
Alucard managed to offer you a small smile. He let go of your cheek and held your wrist softly, passing his finger over the red string. He still wore his.
“Remember.” He patted his finger over it. You nodded yet again.
When Alucard stepped back, the world started moving at the normal pace again. The noises became clear. The city was loud now – and you felt incredibly cold.
He sent you a last significant gaze before turning around and leaving the atelier, closing the door behind him.
And then – you were alone.
Minutes went by. You walked from side to side with crossed arms. The city was painted in an eerie red hue due to the eclipse; you saw many soldiers running through the window. You tried to calm down, control your breathing, focus on a single thing– but fuck, you couldn’t. Not anymore.
You hoped Alucard, Richter and Annette were safe – especially Annette. You hoped everything would get solved fast so the goddess could leave her body. You hoped Richter would find the strength to fight. You hoped Alucard would succeed in his strategy. You hoped the civilians out there, courageously wearing uniforms and standing up to fight for their families, would survive; as many as possible, at least.
You hoped there was something you could do.
You sat on the windowsill and leaned your head on both hands, gripping your hair nervously. You couldn’t help but shake. You knew Alucard was right; you didn’t want to get hurt or to cross ways with Drolta or Erzsebet. He was being rational. He was correct.
But even so… even so–
Your thoughts got interrupted by the sound of an explosion.
The floor shook. Multiple screams echoed in the night, followed by shots. More explosions – these were somewhere near, probably a few streets away; you heard more distant explosions too. Cannons being ignited.
The battle had started.
You got up again, unable to control your anxiety. More screams more shots more explosions more earthquakes. The sky lightened up with different colors – blue and red and yellow – for a few seconds. Your heart raced, sweat already covered your forehead, your fingers trembled. Pure chaos had unleashed upon the city.
Erzsebet and Drolta were somewhere out there fighting.
This perception frightened you, made you want to dig a hole on the ground and hide there forever. You couldn’t be seen or caught by them – death felt like a more merciful future, but you couldn’t die, and that was the problem.
At the same time, another feeling increased. Burned.
Anger.
And urgency.
Everyone was fighting out there. Everyone was contributing somehow, putting their lives on the line. Humans against vampires and night creatures; they were much more courageous than you were. All of them were risking their fragile mortal lives. You were reminded of how easy it is for a human to die – while you, with this strange healing condition, were hidden there, too scared to get hurt.
You were tired of feeling useless and even more tired of feeling scared.
Fuck, there should be something you could do! Anything actually useful. You held your head again, once more hating your stupid empty brain, wishing you could find a relevant memory despite what Alucard said before–
Your eyes stopped on the scepter.
It was in the corner of the room exactly were you left it. You weren’t brave enough to touch it again.
You stood there and stared at it.
Explosions. Screams. Earthquakes. Shots. Multiple steps. Everything had a red tone to it. You kept your eyes locked on the golden artifact, the symbol of the sun; you stared and stared and stared and–
You remembered.
Once again – it wasn’t exactly a memory. It was more of a feeling; a knowledge. The scepter seems to be reacting to your feelings, Alucard said that time. It shone and burned the three vampires alive as if they were standing under the sun.
You somehow caused this reaction.
And at that moment, something deep within you told you that you could make that again.
You could make it bigger.
Your fists tightened. You gulped and straightened your posture.
Alucard told you to keep out of sight. Sekhmet said you shouldn’t be near her.
But you looked out the window and saw these soldiers running with rifles in hand; the fragility of their lives didn’t stop them from fighting. Maybe there was something you could do. Maybe you could help them somehow in a truly effective way.
You crossed the room and held the scepter; it was cold, lifeless. You’d find a way to make it work again – you had too. You stood in front of the door, your hand hovering over the doorknob. It was shaking.
You closed your eyes for a moment.
You were scared. You were frightened.
But Annette’s voice echoed in the back of your mind:
To be truly freed is to not be afraid.
You opened your eyes, turned the doorknob and ran out of the atelier shop – stepping into the red chaos.

URGENT: FUNDRAISING FOR BREAST CANCER TREATMENT (heavy necrosis)
She has been hospitalized for a while with a family member taking over her blog.
Donate here!!! (some pictures of blackened hand)
Mar 5 10:44 PM
Edit “ they need $2.1k usd and i think at the moment they only have somewhere between $200 usd and $300 usd.
NOTE: I just learned that gogetfunding is not mobile optimized, or maybe not even possible to use on some mobile? If this is the case for you, please bookmark until you get to a desktop and set a reminder alarm on your phone or some other way to remind yourself.
Making this because despite many attempts to spread the campaign, I think people are seeing the large number of notes in original post and thiking its well funded. It is not. Nothing has changed for a while despite the attempts at spreading it around.
For @hell-bent-in-a-fever-dream
be warned of medical images in source Some sort of necrosis
Hell-bent is a very nice person, and needs our help. Her breast cancer has spread to her arm leading to nasty blood clotting and necrosis. She has been hospitalized for a while with a family member taking over her blog. She needs money or else her treatment may be cut off!!
Vetting posts (and explanation why not using gofundme)
@kyra45 the scam buster For anyone wondering, this is the original post... someone made a fake campaign stealing pictures from hell-bent, and Kyra45 tracked down the stolen pictures to original source.
@c-u-c-koo-4-40k on Tumblr(23) vetting and explanation why not using Gofundme You may know c-u-c-koo-4-40k for their good work boosting various Gazan campaigns. Hell-bent cannot use gofundme as the country they reside is not one that has access to it. Hence why they are using the site above.
Donate here!!! (some pictures of blackened hand)

alex can’t post the pictures of what their arm looks like now because it will get their account taken down. that’s how bad things are. but i’ve seen the pictures and i can vouch for how dire their situation is. they need life saving surgery and their go get funding is barely crawling up. please. reblogging is always helpful, but PLEASE, if you have anything to spare, please donate. this is so fucking urgent i’m begging you. please help my friend.
They might stop giving treatment any moment, we need to start getting money again to pay!
Mar 5 10:44 PM
Edit “ they need $2.1k usd and i think at the moment they only have somewhere between $200 usd and $300 usd. this operation could truly save alex’s life. she’s getting the arm amputated which is gonna greatly improve her chances of getting better. but treatment could stop at any moment because they haven’t been able to pay. a concern i have is that the go get funding doesn’t always work on mobile, and people aren’t typically motivated to go on desktop. any recommendations are welcome and your help is endlessly appreciated. i really hope you’re taking care of yourself too. and please know that you’ve continuously been a big source of hope for vin.”
Had a informative conversation.

DESCENDANTS: The Rise of Red! (or the REAL hidden story in the movie + what’s gonna happen in the sequel THEORY!)
So we ALL watched the movie right? We ALL thought the plot sucked and the movie ended abruptly with a underwhelming climax?
WELL HERES WHY WERE WRONG!
So I did some really deep thinking, and I figured, these writers can’t be THAT stupid? The director can’t be THAT idiotic, lame, and boring? That would just embarrass Disney, not to mention all the well respected actors that are in this!
So I thought hard. I thought hard and I thought long. Like hella long. And I tallied up all the plot inconsistencies, all the weird explanations, all the very specific lines in songs, and I did it. I fixed descendants rise of red! I FIGURED IT OUT!
So!! Here it is! What TRULY happened that crowncoming night! And what going back in time actually did!
(I intentionally put a keep reading so if anyone wanted to avoid spoilers they can)
So! Now that we’re under the keep reading. Anything spoilerly can be said!
So first things first. The biggest theory everyone is saying.
ELLA DID IN FACT POISON BRIDGET!
Yes! I said it! We all thought the movie was leading to this! So it was underwhelming when it was revealed it was Uliana and her crew were the origins behind the prank.
OR WERE THEY?
We all saw that once they opened the book; they were frozen. Because they were ‘bad’ and Merlin’s security system was set into place.
And many of you came up with the giant plot hole that this would have happened REGARDLESS of whether Red and Chloe interfered.
AND YOUR RIGHT!
This sole reason, is why the group COULDNT have done it! Not only were they frozen, but they couldn’t read the recipe, and were properly sent to detention, ergo exonerating them from being at the dance! Meaning their was literally no way they could have been behind the prank!
So with them being withheld from the dance, who could it be? Who was the one person who was originally at the dance, but now no longer could be? What was the one actual change that Red and Chloe set off?
ELLA. AND THE VASE!
We all see that when the two go into Ella’s house, Chloe knocks over a Vase. Breaking it. Lady Tremaine GROUNDS Ella! Meaning that she COULD NOT go to the dance!
This DIDNT happen originally! Meaning Ella DID go to the dance in the original timeline! Which is proven when Cinderella (I’m calling Adult Ella, Cinderella) talks to The Red Queen (I’m calling Adult Bridget The Red Queen) about how the prank being pulled was wrong. She had first handed knowledge of the prank. AND she told Chloe she fell in love with Charming at the dance.
But! Since Ella is the only difference in the two timelines in regarding to the dance, this is PROOF that she was the one who actually pranked Bridget, NOT Uliana and her crew!
So here’s what I think happened!
Ella, who saw Bridget being bullied about the cupcakes, and saw Uliana take all the cupcakes. And promptly being threatened by Uliana. Decided to bake Bridget something to cheer her up. However Bridget literally has all of the cookbooks in auradon. As shown. So she snoops around and finds Merlin’s cookbook! (Because it’s also shown she’s okay with breaking the rules if it’s for a good cause. From her get our hands dirty song!) and double and, the book WOULD open for her because she is a good person. AND she was doing it for a good reason!
she flips through the book and finds some simple blase recipe that cheers Bridget up. Maybe gives her cool hair (Red hair??). Something simple but sweet.
However. While doing this, she happens to see the Monster food recipe. She doesn’t look at it for long of course. Just enough to remember it’s a thing.
BACK TO BRIDGET!
Now! I swear to whatever’s out there that the person who played Chloe said there was a queer character in Dedcendants 4. I can’t find it now but it was some tumblr or insta post. I know cause I immediately told my friend afterwards.
Anywho. I think Bridget is the queer character! We see in the movie her only friend was Ella. Not only that but she YEARNS for someone to care about enough to ask her out (in a romantic way like charming just tried to do for Ella) Ella, who again. Is Bridget’s only friend. And ergo, shows her love no one else does, IMMEDIATELY asks her to go to the dance with her! (Might have said as friends in the other timeline too. Who knows)
But! This only makes Bridget’s crush on Ella even BIGGER. And she falls in love with her! She probably thinks they might have a chance!
This is also somewhat proven by The Red Queens song ‘Love Ain’t It’

Title ; Love Ain’t It
Red : “With all the Grief you’ve experienced”
Red (Speaking of Cinderella) : So you Knew her?
The Red Queen : I saw through her. Cinderella and I were classmates in a way.
(Notice how she uses Ella’s mocking name after she has time to recover from the interaction. She said ELLA originally when she caught her off guard. Also. The line. I SAW THROUGH HER. It’s a double edged sword. Saw through her fronts. Saw the hurting girl inside. Saw through her LIES saw the mean girl behind)
Proven by the next lines
The red Queen : I spent way to much time in this place
So I had to escape
the people might smile
but their two faced, too fake.
Girl was relentlessly bullied and betrayed by someone she loved
And Ella Knows it.
Cinderella : Some people act mean at first, because their too afraid to feel
[the reverse is also true]
Cinderella : Look hon. Back in high school, a mean prank was played
And ever since that fateful day
She was never the same, it’s quite a shame.
So the Red Queen sings a whole song about how Love isn’t it. And we ALL KNOW that her only connection to love as a kid was through ELLA. meaning Bridget HAD A CRUSH on Ella. Was IN LOVE. With Ella.
So. How did Crowncoming originally happen you ask?
Here’s my theory
Ella and Bridget go to the dance. They are happy! They have fun. Bridget falls further in love with Ella. Meanwhile. Ella falls in love with Charming!
Her and Charming hit it off. And Ella starts to feel loved and appreciated for the first time in her life.
Then, Bridget performs her ‘Shuffle of Love’ dance. All the attention is on her! Even Charmings.
Ella feels robbed. She feels jealous. She feels angry that her friend is stealing the one good moment she is finally having to herself.
And so she briefly remembers the spell. And in a moment of error, she either A. Remembers the recipe already and makes the recipe. Or B. Re-Sneaks back into the office to see it. However I’m going with A because the book wouldn’t have opened again for Ella because of her bad intentions.
Whichever way. Bridget eats the baked treat. (I think it was a cupcake. Ella could have lied and said it was from the earlier batch)
And then. IT HAPPENS! Bridget is turned into an ugly terrifying monster. Everyone LAUGHS at her. Everyone makes fun of her
And Bridget, who is confused, understands only ONE person could have done this to her. She looks at someone she was in love with. And just sees Ella and Charming laughing. Laughing at her. Bonding over laughing at HER.
Bridget runs off. In tears. Broken inside. With an equally broken heart.
Maybe if Ella had immediately realized her error and run after her she would have turned out differently. But no. It is proven that Ella stayed at the dance and stayed with Charming. They wouldn’t have had the chance to fall in love if she left.
So Bridget. Spends the rest of the night terrified. Looking like a monster. And being laughed and screamed and made fun of everywhere she goes. And not only that. But her ONLY FRIEND. Her CRUSH. Someone she TRUSTED did this to her
Now THIS! THIS is something can break a person. This is something that can change their views on the world. On humanity itself. She was a kind girl. Was kind to everyone no matter how meanly they treated her. But through it all, Ella was her rock. Her friend. Her secret love. Someone who was good and kind through it all.
But she betrayed her. Tbe one nice person betrayed her. Showing that being nice doesn’t do it. Being nice does not mean good things happen. Being nice doesn’t is worthless if this is what it gets you. Everyone is two faced. And the only thing that’s real. The only thing she CAN feel. Is hurt. And pain. And fear. And so that’s what she swears to become. That’s what she swears to do. Be mean and cruel and heartless so she never has to feel all this pain ever again. So her eventual DAUGHTER never has to feel this again. It’s better to be alone and feared. Then alone and broken.
Ella probably realized the error of her ways the next day. But as she said. It was too late. Bridget was never the same.
This Explains why they had so many odd interactions. The raw feral burning chemistry between them. All the odd phrase. Why The Red Queen would be okay sending her BEST FRIEND to death. Why she would be okay killing her. And taking over auradon. To Her? Cinderella is the one who made her this way.
but also part of her still remembers. Still cares. It’s why she gave her once chance to kneel to her. (And as we’ve noted in the books and movies. She doesn’t give ANYONE else a second chance. She punishes I’m immediately and harshly)
And so! With all of this happening. Theirs gonna be some catylist in recent times. The Red Queen might be nice now. But something will have changed. Ella never went to the dance. (She clearly fell in love with charming somewhere else cause otherwise Chloe would have disappeared) but something happened when she wasn’t at the dance. Something that caused another problem. And THATS gonna be the sequel to this movie. Descendants : Rise of Red part two.
(as we’ve seen the official script for the movie is literally called Descendants : Rise of Red part one. MEANING they wrote it with the purpose of being part one to either a sequel or a threequal)
And THAT! Ladies and Gentleman, is what I think the REAL plot behind Descendants : Rise of Red is! A movie that is not idiotically not thought out at all, but really something so secretly genuis is blows your mind!
Hope you enjoyed!

NSFW Alphabet with 1x1x1x1
A/N: Well Folks, I finally have came out with the masterpiece some of y’all have been waiting for now, I worked extra hard on this (as usual…) and I’m exhausted 😭🙏 but I think I’m proud of this and now I’m gonna go eat wax candies and stay off tumblr to process what the hell i just wrote 🥰. Enjoy!
⚠️Warnings: Smut smut smut smut anddd smut, it’s smut folks what do you expect? Anyone can read this but please be responsible to since i dont control what people can or can’t do.

A = Aftercare (what they’re like after sex)
• With 1x for this, it really depends on the aspect of it.
• The aftercare can be either more traditional with cuddles, praises, cleaning up…
• And I feel like he would enjoy just being cuddled up in your arms while you whisper sweet praises in his ear.
• And of course, he would also do the same to as long as he was comfortable enough doing it, he likes to hold you in his arms and clean you up.
• However, that’s if he’s feeling up to being all sweet and everything, especially if the aftercare is in private or public.
• Most of the time, including at the start of your dating he would mostly just roll off of you and fall asleep, and never speak about it the next day (unless you do).
B = Body part (their favorite body part of theirs and also their partner’s)
• 1x takes a lot of pride and care with his hair (with him being in his betrayed form). His hair means a lot to him..!
• 1x definitely loves it when you play with his hair, especially during sex since your able to get a few or more noises out of him. And just you tugging at his hair proved to him how good he makes you feel.
• For you though? I don’t think he couldn’t pick a favorite body part from you, unless if he’s held captive and had a gun pointed to his head, he would say he loves seeing your neck down to your lower back covered in his love marks.
C = Cum (anything to do with cum, basically)
• Jeez, this man is so gross when it comes to cum, NF it doesn’t even matter how far he goes about it either.
• 1x is careful whenever he decides to finish inside you, he does not wanna father (another) child at the moment.
• However, it makes him feel… something whenever he sees his cum inside you, your realese mixing with his own, it makes it send shivers down his back.
• Oh, and he would be so teasing about it too, he’ll even push down on your stomach just to see some of it spilling out of you.
• But, if he’s not finishing inside of you he’s either cumming on your face/body or in your mouth, he just gets more hard when he sees his cum on your body.. your just so beautiful when your like that!
• No matter where his cum is, wether it’ll be all over your body, in your mouth, inside you etc.. there will always be no more sight any prettier than seeing you painted with his cum.
D = Dirty secret (pretty self explanatory, a dirty secret of theirs)
• His dirty secret is that he keeps souvenirs of your belongings whenever you are with him, whenever you guys had you adventures he likes to steal a few of your things or keeps sake whenever he doesn’t see you
• And whenever he’s really needy for you, or he just misses you, he pulls out a box full of your belongings, with one of your underwear’s and starts sniffing it (and jerking off to it) to feel comforted by your scent.
• He even has a couple of photos saved when he’s taken pictures of you during your little… sessions.
E = Experience (how experienced are they? do they know what they’re doing?)
• Bro has literally -0 experience with anything that has to do with dating, especially if it’s sex too.
• And once he started dating too, he was (obviously) still inexperienced, so you would have to guide him and his movements though it all, but he can get the hang of it after doing it a couple times.
• Once he gets the point of it, and he knows what to do, he’ll never leave you unsatisfied.
F = Favorite position (this goes without saying)
• At the start, he would want any positions where you are taking the lead, since he would be inexperienced the first time.
• Those positions would most likely be cowgirl at the start, where you would be able to get on top of him and start riding him.
• And when he’s on top, he’ll take any position that’ll make him fully in control, where he can manhandle you while he pounds away into you, and where you can’t squirm away from him.
• He’s pretty much open almost all the time to experiment different positions, he may be a little hesitant if it’s something he isn’t used to.
G = Goofy (are they more serious in the moment? are they humorous? etc.)
• He’s never silly during sex, and I don’t think he will ever be goofy, and if he actually is it’s pretty rare
• He’s not joking around about it because he wants to focus on his pleasure, and very importantly your own, and he wouldn’t be able to at least be a little bit silly because of how good you make him feel everytime.
H = Hair (how well groomed are they? does the carpet match the drapes? etc.)
• In my opinion, I don’t think he’s that well trimmed at all, but he doesn’t let it get wild though so he cuts the hairs every once in a little while.
• And, he also genuinely doesn’t mind what you have down there either, you won’t ever hear him judging you for it at all.
• But, if you ever wanted to tell him to take better care of himself, he’ll definitely listen to you if it makes you feel comfortable enough.
I = Intimacy (how are they during the moment? the romantic aspect)
• 1x is not good at expressing himself with words much, but even though he doesn’t do well with that, he is amazing at being able to show how much he adores you though his actions.
• And sex is one of the ways he’s able to express intimacy with you, be close to you.
• He loves being able to touch skin with you in anyway, it’s like he wants to mold into you to become one, and he’s so cuddly towards you during and after sex.
J = Jealousy, do they get jealous easily?
• 1x is more possessive than jealous per say, he wishes he didn’t get so possessive over you because he knows he can trust you but it’s rooted deeply because of people betraying him, and he’s mostly scared of you leaving/betraying him to (which you would never!).
• He will never share you with anyone else, not in any lifetime.
• When he gets possessive, it’s usually when someone else is stealing your attention, and who he deems as a threat to your relationship. he’ll most likely drag them somewhere without you noticing and killing them off.
• In a result, this usually ends up with him fucking your brains out to the point where you can only whimper and scream his name.
• And he places marks all over your body, just to give people a small reminder of who you belong to. It gives him a huge power boost.
K = Kink (one or more of their kinks)
• 1x is the type of person who really, REALLY enjoys anything that’s rough and hard, where he’s able to pound himself into you wildly that you won’t be able to walk for the next week.
• He LOVES degrading you during sex, but after it’s over he makes sure to comfort you and praise you after, because he does still care about your mental health overall
• He also enjoys being praised, I feel like it really makes him feel more loved, and he’s able to feel safe and not be on guard all the time, being able to let go and enjoy.
• He gets a huge ego boost whenever he’s able to make you cry from overstimulation, begging him to slow down. It makes him feel so good because he can feel like he’s in charge.
L = Location (favorite places to do the do)
• Usually, he likes to do it in private, like in the bedroom or in the living room… WITH the curtains closed, he doesn’t want anyone else to hear your heavenly noises that come out of you’re mouth, those are only for him.
• But, if it’s in public he would like it if it was semi-public, like doing it in the closet or someone’s bedroom, he gets excited whenever he thinks of the fact that someone may come in on the both of you doing it.
• But in the end, it’s where you and him feel more comfortable doing it after all.
M = Motivation (what turns them on, gets them going)
• For 1x what gets him going is you, just yourself being you, especially if your the one flirting and getting him all riled up.
• He doesn’t have a huge sex drive, but when it comes to you it can be really high, you just have to tease him, just do anything to get him going.
• You can even just wear his clothes and he’d get a hard on, and if your on his lap he can easily manhandle you just where he wants you.
N = No (something they wouldn’t do, turn offs)
• 1x doesn’t have any limits when it comes to you, but to name a few he doesn’t like hurting you in any way, shape or form.
• But, as long as your comfortable he’ll try anything you want as long as you consult with him.
O = Oral (preference in giving or receiving, skill, etc.)
• He enjoys receiving more than giving… not that he doesn’t wanna give you oral it’s just because he’s not that good at it at the very beginning
• You would have to guide him how to eat you out/or suck you off… And that will take a bit of time and practice.
• But once he gets used to it he’s a champion at it! And he will never stop until your legs are shaking.
• When he is receiving, you make him feel like he’s somewhere dreamy, where he can lose himself in you.
• You are able to make him feel so good, he tugs at your hair as he watched you go down on him, it is truly a beautiful sight before his eyes to see you on your knees for him.
• He may thrust into your throat after a little bit if he’s getting frustrated, he can’t help it when your giving him head!
P = Pace (are they fast and rough? slow and sensual? etc.)
• In my opinion, he’s really fast and rough, he’s able to get his frustrations out on you, and the man genuinely needs some relief from all the problems he’s carrying.
• But, if he’s feeling up to it he’ll go slow, enough to rile you up and beg him to go faster.
• It’s not just for your own enjoyment but his as well, focusing on you is just part of the process.
Q = Quickie (their opinions on quickies, how often, etc.)
• If it’s really urgent, as in like you riled him up to much, then yes, he will do a quickie with you even though he doesn’t really like them much.
• He likes taking his time with you at home, not where your in a rush, so quickies will only happen if it’s urgent for the both of you.
• And if it’s in public, he’s gonna have to find a private or semi-private area for you and him. To get off quickly, he does not need to be caught by anyone.
R = Risk (are they game to experiment? do they take risks? etc.)
• 1x for sure likes trying out new things that’s no lie.
• And yet again, he will do anything that your comfortable with so the experience is good for the both of you.
• When you try new things with him to experiment, it makes him feel happy inside to know that you trust him and your safe with him.
S = Stamina (how many rounds can they go for? how long do they last?)
• He doesn’t have a super high sex drive, so it’ll usually take him at least 2-3 rounds for him to be done, he gets overstimulated fast if the rounds go for more than his limit.
• And during these rounds, he lasts a little longer than most to finish, as he seems like the type of person to enjoy dragging it out.
T = Toys (do they own toys? do they use them? on a partner or themselves?)
• Not before you came into the picture, if he had to get off he would just use his hand, he never owned any toys.
• But, if you decide to get some toys for yourself, including for him he would really mind, but toys do not make him feel good, you make him feel good.
U = Unfair (how much they like to tease)
• 1x is more of the tease than you are. He enjoys to see you get riled up and turn into a mess in front of him.
• Hearing you beg for him has such an intense turn on for him.
• He loves to tease you where his fingers brush over your underwear where you need him most but he won’t give you exactly what you want.
• Seeing your body squirm and trying to get him to where you exactly need him makes him chuckle a little and thinks it is the most cutest thing ever.
• Generally, he just adores teasing you, he loves your reactions.
V = Volume (how loud they are, what sounds they make, etc.)
• He’s not exactly the loudest person per say, but he has the volume in him.
• He knows exactly how you react whenever he groans or grunts in your ear.
• But the better ones is where your able to get him to moan or whimper.
• And usually, he’s not too quiet he never shuts up ever, even if it’s not during sex he’s just a huge talker and loves to hear himself talk.
• He has a list of pet names for you, and knows how you react to each one of them, he uses them to dirty talk in your ear just to see you blush.
• 1x loves hearing you, your moans and whimpers are always pushing him to the edge of his end.
W = Wild card (a random headcanon for the character)
• 1x is surprisingly very easy to get noises out of him, you just have to please him really good, or tease him and your able to get noises you thought you would most likely never hear in your lifetime, and you’ll be able to get him submissive for you.
X = X-ray (let’s see what’s going on under those clothes)
• 1x is definitely bigger than average down there
• He has more girth than length though, but he’s still big and long.
• You’ll also be able to point out some veins whenever his sick is hard, he definitely has big dick energy.
Y = Yearning (how high is their sex drive?)
• Again, his sex drive is not that high, but since he has a list of penh up emotions like frustration that’s where his sex drive goes through the roof.
• And he’s able to let go because he’s with you and your able to make him feel like his life is not difficult and not all things are truly bad.
• 1x will always be yearning for his partner on any way, even if it’s just though cuddles, he’s secretly a simp and a fool for you.
Z = Zzz (how quickly they fall asleep afterwards)
• If your in his or your own bed it’s always very tempting for you both to fall asleep, especially for 1x since he’s the person who usually just sleeps after sex.
• If you guys had a longer session you’d both be too exhausted to do any aftercare until you both gotten your sleep
• 1x loves the cuddles after sex, being in your arms is so comforting after everything, and he loves hearing sweet words being whispered into his ear from you.
• And he thinks to himself that he has the most precious thing ever (you), and he’s able to be happy again.

Im just… over and over again rereading the Rung one you wrote…. Like.. the sheer distrust. I feel that on a bone deep level. "No one’s that nice without an ulterior motive" GOD. I've learned that too well. I just... I gotta hold that one in my teeth and knaw. I hope maybe Rung can get some more love sometime? (Also lord I hope Everything is Alright hits ao3 lmao Tumblr is dogwater for navigating)
Yeah, his human doesn’t trust any kindness
Everything is Alright is on AO3, I’m just terrible about remembering to update there

Anything For You Pt 4
Rung x Reader
• “Here we go. Energon for me, nutrient rations and water for you.” Pretending to be asleep with the blanket over your head, you hear him vent softly. Probably not buying the act, but you’re not sure you can force yourself to choke down another of those dry bars. You’d tried dipping it in your water, but it had come apart and become an even less appealing, gritty slurry. “You have to refuel even if you don’t like them,” he adds, placing a servo on your blanket and sliding it off of you. And you’re not winning this round of tug of war as he gentle tugs the blanket away.
• “Humans eat, we don’t refuel,” you mutter, staring at the what the aliens generously call food. And he’s smiling at you, expression almost indulgent like he thinks you correcting him is cute instead of annoying. There’s a nearly overwhelming urge to throw the bar at his head, but you’ve tried that before and it doesn’t seem to phase him at all. He just takes whatever abuse you throw his way in stride, that smile firmly in place. Just keep trying and trying to run him off but it makes you feel guilty. Like being mean to a puppy.
• “Right you are,” he says as you scowl up at him. So prickly and mistrusting. And he’s gone from curious about why you’re that way, to obsessed over the short time he’s had you in his care. Needs to unravel your secrets, get you to open up to him so he can help you. “I can always try to ask Ratchet to augment the flavors, but we don’t perceive taste like you do from what I understand.” Those eyes narrow as you lean to grab the bar and pick it apart with your fingers. Knows he has to keep an optic on you because you’re not above pretending to eat and hiding the things when you think he’s not looking.
• “Don’t bother.” Odds are good he’ll somehow make these things taste worse. Aware that he’s watching you like a hawk, there’s no choice but to eat the gritty thing. As much as you’d like to refuse, it’s not worth starving since it’s nasty, dirt bars or nothing. It’s not like he actually cares about you, it’d probably just look bad if you keel over in his care. That must be it. Keeping you alive is about saving face, he doesn’t actually care.
• “We don’t have to be enemies, you know,” he says with a frown. “I really do want to help you.” And your eyes narrow at him, instantly suspicious. He’d give anything to know what’s going on in that head of yours. Because he’s almost positive you’ve been hurt before to be this wary of him. Of everyone. “I’m not going to push, but if you’d like to talk to me, I’m here.” Rolling your eyes, you eat your ration bar. But at least you didn’t throw it at him this time. It’s progress.

“OK but I should be able to get a book, too,” Sarah said, holding Ellie’s hand as they walked into the bookstore.
“Baby girl, you do not need to get anything else to weigh your suitcase down,” Joel said. “We are here for your mom, not so you can shop.”
“But it’s a bookstore!” She pouted. “In New York City! I need a souvenir!”
“She’s got a point,” Anna said. “We are here for a book tour, it only seems appropriate that she gets a book.”
“Easy for you to say,” Joel said, holding the large, heavy door open so the girls could head inside. “You’re not the one who’s gonna have to haul her luggage around.”
“Well duh,” Anna said, patting his chest with a smile as she went by. “That’s what my sister married you for. What’s the point of a husband if not to do the heavy lifting, hm?”
Joel rolled his eyes but smiled all the same as the four them made their way into the massive bookstore in the heart of the city.
The ground floor was packed, a line of people weaving through what looked like a sea of stanchions, all working their way to the back of the store.
“Are you here for the author event?” A frazzled looking employee ran up to Joel, her eyes wide. “Because I’m afraid we’ve had to cut off the meet and greet line…”
“Oh, uh, no,” Joel said, still not used to this part of being married to someone who was famous. “Well… yeah, we are, but…”
“She’s my mom,” Sarah beamed proudly.
“Oh!” The woman smiled, visibly relaxing. “She mentioned she was expecting her family, did you want to go say hi?”
Normally, Joel wouldn’t want to disrupt things. But he hadn’t seen you in person in months, him needing to stay at home to keep things chugging along with the business and look after Sarah while you did your tour. You might be busy signing autographs and taking pictures with fans but he couldn’t resist being able to see you somewhere outside his phone screen, even for just a second.
“That’d be great,” Joel smiled.
“Come on,” she said. “I’ll get you through the crowd.”
And there was definitely a crowd. He might have been overestimating things because he was so damn proud of you but it seemed like hundreds of people had crammed into this bookstore, all of them holding copies of your books and craning their necks to get a look at you.
“Great turn out today,” the woman said. “I don’t think we’ve had this many out for a signing in a while. We knew she’d be popular but even so, we weren’t exactly prepared for this much!”
“They have good taste,” Anna smiled.
Joel found himself stretching to see you as they got closer and closer to the back of the store, knowing you were just out of sight, beyond this press of eager fans.
He saw you before you saw him, smiling as you handed a book back to someone after you signed it. You were behind a table, a cardboard cutout of you to one side and a giant cardboard version of the cover of your latest novel on the other and Joel couldn’t help but marvel at you, at everything you’d made.
Unlike your last book, Joel had read this one early. You’d shared it with him not long after the two of you got together, the ending uncertain in that version.
“I think I’m going to change the second half,” you said, nose crinkled, as the two of you sat on his couch, your feet on his lap and your manuscript in his hands. “It just doesn’t… I dunno. It doesn’t feel right.”
“I’ll leave that to you, baby,” he’d said, giving the arch of your foot a squeeze. “But I thought it was incredible. Really.”
You’d beamed at that, damn near glowing. But you rewrote the second half and Joel loved it even more then. You took the book from something that was full of pain and longing with an uncertain ending into a journey alongside the characters as they found their way through all that pain to reach something beautiful at the end.
Joel didn’t know much about books but he loved it. He loved that he knew how the future looked with you in it, how right things seemed now, and he treasured the physical manifestation of the fact that you felt the same.
“Mom!” Sarah called when she saw you and you looked up from the table, smiling somehow even wider.
“Hey baby girl!” You said, your agent stepping in to put a pause on the meet and greet line as you got up. Sarah ran forward, almost knocking you down before you even had a chance to fully get out of your chair and you caught her with a laugh.
“Alright, let’s take it easy,” Joel said as Sarah stepped back. “She’s got precious cargo, can’t be too rough.”
“A little hugging never hurt anybody,” you said as Joel reached you, pulling you in for a hug and putting one hand on your swollen belly as he did. You kissed him, deep and long. “I missed you.”
“I missed you, too,” he said, stepping back to take a better look at you, his hand still on your stomach. “And her.”
You smiled, nuzzling closer to him, your hand covering his as he cradled your pregnant belly.
“You might feel her, she’s been on the move today,” you said. “Think she’s been excited to see her daddy.”
He smiled, your stomach bigger than the last time he’d gotten to see you in person and, while he’d convinced you to send him a picture every day that you’d been gone, it was another thing entirely when you were right there. Just as he was marveling at you, the baby inside you moved, a little foot catching his hand, making him gasp.
“There she goes,” you laughed a little, your hand moving to be alongside Joel’s. “Just bouncing off the walls today.”
He laughed, blinking back tears as he held you.
“Well I’ll be damned,” he said reverently.
“Sorry to break up the reunion,” your agent, Stephanie, appeared, putting a hand on your shoulder. “But we need to get back to it.”
“Think they’ll have you here too long?” Joel asked, looking at the crowd still waiting to see you, fans craning their necks to get a better look at you.
“Not sure,” you frowned, looking back over your shoulder at the press of people. “But I can see if…”
“Don’t worry about it baby,” he said, cutting you off. He tugged you closer, pressing a kiss to your temple. “I just want to make sure you’re gonna be feeling up for anything after this. This is your moment, your tour. You gotta do it right.”
“But it’s your birthday,” you said, looking back to him, your brows knitted together, and Joel laughed.
“We’ll keep ourselves busy,” he said. “We got all weekend to celebrate me turnin’ the big 3-6. You go take care of all your adoring fans.”
You smiled at him in that beautiful way you had, that started slow but spread until it made your whole face shine.
“I love you,” you said, kissing him.
“I love you,” he said. “And I’m so fuckin’ proud of you.”
Joel, Sarah, Anna and Ellie went to the kids section to keep Ellie occupied and Joel couldn’t help but smile at how far the two of you had come as he watched his niece toddle around with his daughter.
Things had moved quickly once the two of you finally understood what you meant to each other. You told Sarah the next day, Joel picking her up from school and bringing her home where you were waiting for them.
“Aunt Goldie!” She’d yelled when she saw you, dropping her book bag unceremoniously by the door before damn near tackling you. You caught her, laughing. “You’re here!”
“Hey kiddo,” you gave her a squeeze. “It’s so good to see you! I missed you.”
“I missed you too!” She said, stepping back as Joel cam up alongside you. She looked between the two of you. “What are you doing here?”
“Well,” Joel said, suddenly feeling nervous. Sarah loved you and wanted you in her life but what if this was a bridge too far? What if she hated him for possibly fucking up the one stable female presence in her life? But he looked at you, at the warm comfort that was your face, and smiled a little. He took your hand and took a deep breath before looking at his daughter. “You know how much Goldie and I care about each other and how much we care about you.”
“Yeah,” she said, an edge of suspicion in her voice.
“And how much we all love being together,” Joel continued. You squeezed his hand tighter.
“Yeah,” Sarah said again, still sounding skeptical.
“We decided to make that official,” Joel said. “And be a family.”
“Wait, so… you guys are together now?” She asked, looking between the two of you. “Like… together together?”
“Yeah,” you smiled, looking a little hesitant as you did. “Is… is that OK with you?”
“OK?” She gaped at the two of you. “Are you serious? That’s the freaking best!”
You laughed and Joel smiled and the two of you hugged Sarah and he had a moment where, for the first time in his life, it felt like he was exactly where he was supposed to be. The three of you went out to dinner that night - a celebration of sorts - and he was so happy that he didn’t even make a comment when you stole one of his French fries and dipped it in Sarah’s milkshake.
Things were simple after that. So simple that Joel was almost skeptical because nothing in his life had been as easy as you becoming a part of it in this way. But, he supposed, maybe that was just proof that this was what was supposed to happen.
You all but moved in the next week, bringing your cat and your books and the posters Joel had admired in your bedroom. Your asshole of a husband was surprisingly cooperative, the two of you finalizing your divorce in a matter of months. Joel dove into the work of starting a new business just as you were starting to work through your new book, rewriting and editing and it felt something like coming to life to watch you do what you did best while it finally seemed like he was really making something of himself.
The two of you had been together for more than six months when, one evening, he could tell you wanted to talk to him about something. You were folded into the corner of the couch and gnawing absently on your lower lip, fingers twisting around on themselves as you largely ignored the movie you were watching.
“You gonna tell me what’s on your mind over there or do I gotta guess?” He asked once Sarah had gone to bed. He saw you move to brush his concerns off but he beat you to it. “Don’t tell me that it’s nothing, I can tell it’s something.”
You scrunched your nose but sighed, unfolding yourself from your place on the couch enough that he could pull your feet onto his lap. You clutched a pillow tight over your stomach.
“You have to promise not to freak out,” you said. “Or read too much into it.”
“OK,” he laughed a little. “Try me, baby.”
“Well,” you sighed. “I… I have an appointment next week with my OBGYN.”
“Ok…” he said, watching you closely, rubbing a gentle circle on the arch of your foot with his thumb.
“My IUD is due to be replaced,” you said. “And… They’re good for five years and when I made the appointment last year, I was just planning to get another one but… I guess I just… I know what you said, back when we got together, what you said you wanted with me but that was kind of heat of the moment and… Should I get another one? Is it too soon to even talk about that? Maybe it is, but… It’s totally OK if you just don’t want more kids or if you just don’t want them with me or…”
“One minute, baby,” he said, picking your feet up and setting them on the couch.
“But,” you protested, sitting up and frowning and he laughed a little.
“Will you stay put and hold that thought?” He asked, brows raised. “Just gimme a minute.”
He went to the bedroom he shared with you and opened his sock drawer, digging around to the back of it to find the small, square box he’d put there months ago. He opened it, looking down at the shining diamond in the gold band he’d found at an antique jewelry store just a few weeks after the two of you were really together. He knew asking then would have been too quick - hell, you were still fucking married at that point - but he wanted to find the ring he would give you, he wanted to have it so that, when the time was right, he’d be ready. He smiled a little at it, going back to the living room to find you still in your corner of the couch, pillow still clutched tight to your chest and your eyebrows drawn together.
“I’m sorry,” you said quickly. “I know that it’s only been a few months, we really don’t need to figure this out any time soon, really, it’s fine, I’ll just get another one and…”
He ignored you, going down on one knee next to you and opening the box so it was facing you. You gasped and sat up straight, pillow forgotten off to the side, hands covering your mouth.
“Joel…”
“Goldie Girl,” he said, watching you closely. “I’ve spent my whole life in love with you and I don’t plan on changing that any time soon. So I’m asking you if you’ll let me love you, support you, take care of you, make memories and babies and a life with you. I tried living without you for way too long and I never want to do that again so I’m hoping you’ll say yes to this so I don’t have to. Will you marry me?”
There were tears in your eyes but you nodded, quick and hard, before throwing your arms around his neck and practically tackling him, laughing wetly as he caught you as best he could while holding tight to the ring box. He laughed, too, holding you close.
“That a yes?” He asked, pulling back from you enough to look at your face, memorizing the way your eyes glistened and how you smiled so wide it was like you were shining.
“That’s a yes,” you said. “Yes, yes, yes, every minute of every day, yes!”
It’s not like Joel had thought much about his wedding in his youth but it was hard to imagine a better day than that one. It wasn’t huge but it was thoughtful and beautiful, with your families gathered together just a few months after Joel asked for your hand. He got to hold you and dance with you under string lights and flowers in his backyard and you were beautiful in your white dress, your eyes shining and your smile bright. You looked like you on your wedding day this time, not like you were just doing what you felt like you were supposed to do as a bride and he knew, beyond a shadow of a doubt, that no one had ever loved their wife as much as he loved you.
The two of you started trying for kids as soon as you got married. Your honeymoon was just a long weekend in Mexico because Joel couldn’t afford to really take time away from his new business but he was happy for the chance to spend any time at all tangled up with you by a beach, coming deep inside you as much as possible as the two of you tried to grow your family together.
But it didn’t take right away. The two of you spent months trying - and Joel was more than happy to do plenty of trying - before it stuck.
“Don’t get your hopes up,” you’d said, kissing Joel before you got out of bed the morning you took the pregnancy test. You’d taken early detection tests a few months in a row at that point, all of them coming back negative and he could tell it was getting to you because you’d resolved to stop taking those tests and just wait to get your period. But you were two days late now and he couldn’t help but be a little optimistic. “It’s probably nothing.”
“Well,” he said, giving you another kiss. “If it is, we just keep trying. I sure as shit don’t mind that part.”
You snorted and went to the bathroom, Joel picking up his phone to distract himself while the two of you waited for the test results. You always stayed in the bathroom after you peed on the stick. He’d hear the water run and the sounds of you rustling around the bathroom before the timer on your phone chimed and then there were a few more minutes - time where he was pretty sure you were trying to handle your disappointment on your own because you still seemed to think he’d find your emotions inconvenient at some point - before you emerged, empty handed, eyes and lips downturned. Before too long, he heard your alarm and he started reading an article on his phone, trying to give you space, when he heard the door to the bathroom open. He frowned, setting his phone face down on his stomach and watching you. The test was in your hands and you were staring down at it as you walked, slowly, toward the bed.
“Goldie?” He asked, sitting up a little straighter.
“It’s positive,” you said softly, still staring down at the stick before lifting your gaze to his, your eyes wide. “Joel… Joel, it’s positive.”
“Holy shit,” he said dropping his phone to the mattress and moving quickly to the end of the bed. “You serious?”
“Yeah,” you laughed, your voice a little wet, turning the test around and showing it to him. “Yeah, I am. Joel, I’m pregnant.”
He laughed, too, something inside him swelling to the point of bursting, like all the happiness you gave him couldn’t be contained. He grabbed you and kissed you, rising to meet you and holding your face in his hands before tugging you to him. You straddled him, dropping the test to the comforter, your cotton nightie bunching up around your hips. Joel looked down your body, his palm coming to rest over your womb and your hand met his, your fingers warm and soft against him.
“Our baby’s in there,” he whispered reverently. “We made that.”
“Yeah,” you said softly. “We did.”
You rode him there on the bed he shared with you, the place you’d conceived your future child, not bothering to separate enough to get fully undressed, just tucking your panties to the side, your arms draped over his shoulders and your forehead on his, noses brushing, his eyes on yours and he’d never felt more like he was exactly where he was supposed to be than when he came inside you that morning.
He had, of course, been hands on immediately. You were growing his child, after all, after you’d spent more than a year supporting him as he got the business off the ground, the least he could do was… well, everything else. He drove you to every appointment, kept a running note in his phone to make sure he knew what snacks you’d been craving lately so that the house was well stocked with whatever you and the baby wanted, rubbed your feet and your back every night. He always liked taking care of you, anyway. He liked that you didn’t need to open doors around him or ever need to pump your own gas because he kept an eye on your gas gauge and filled up your car before you’d need to but that carried even more weight now. You were the mother of his children, you’d already given him so much and now you were giving him the entire world. He would happily spend the rest of his life trying to give you as much as he could, even knowing full well that he could never, ever, make up the difference.
When you’d left for your book tour two months ago, though, he’d been an anxious mess. He’d tried to hide it as best he could but knowing that you were going to be far away and dealing with everything pregnancy threw at you without him there to make it better made his stomach knot and his chest get tight.
He did what he could to prepare, establishing more of a relationship with your agent so he could just text or call her to check in on you and get an honest assessment of how you were doing. He had the list of everywhere you’d be for your events, the names of your hotels and bookstores where you were holding signings and universities you were doing readings. He made a habit of calling ahead to the hotels and having them put the DoorDash order he sent of all your current favorites into your room before you got there. He always tuned into the live streams of your events, even if he just had it on the background while he helped Sarah with her homework or made dinner or got caught up on work, luxuriating in the sound of your voice as you told the story you’d poured yourself into for so long to your crowd of adoring fans.
He ended every night on video chat with you, staying on until you fell asleep, your iPad propped up on the pillows next to you, his set where your pillows would be if he wasn’t wrapped around them because they still smelled a bit like you. He traced the outline of your sleeping face with his eyes and, while he wanted more than anything else to be beside you so he could touch you - actually, really, touch you - he was so damn proud of you. You’d worked so hard, you’d made something amazing, and you were sharing it with the world. He could handle being away from you for a little while if it meant you got to have the success you more than deserved.
The end of your book tour, though, had seemed like a perfect storm of opportunity. It had been a few years since he’d gotten to take Sarah on a real vacation and then there you were, with plans to be in New York City on his birthday as Josh, Ellie’s dad, was slated to play a show the same night. He couldn’t not jump at the chance to see you a little sooner and spend some time with you, Sarah, Ellie and Anna.
“Why don’t you go ask him?” Sarah said to Ellie, who was holding a book up at her. “Here, I’ll come too.”
Joel tried not to smile too broadly from his spot on the bean bag he’d settled into, a place where he could look over the railing separating this floor from the ones below so he could watch you sign autographs and take photos while keeping an eye on the kids. Sarah let Ellie lead the way, the two-year-old girl toddling deliberately toward him with a book in her chubby fingers, her brown hair in little pigtails and her small face serious.
“Unc Ole,” she said, not quite able to say Uncle Joel yet, as she held up the book. “Wead.”
“What do we say?” Anna chided gently as she picked out some picture books from a nearby shelf. Ellie just looked at her, her little eyebrows drawing together as she thought about it and Anna laughed a little. “Please. We say please, kid.”
She nodded at her mom before turning back to Joel, holding the book up again.
“Wead pwease,” she said. “It’s got a dinosauw!”
Joel tried not to laugh at the fact that, while the letters L and R tended to trip his niece up more often than not, she’d damn near mastered the multi-syllable word dinosaur.
“Course kiddo,” he said, adjusting as best he could in the bean bag so Ellie could clamber onto his lap. She settled in there, finding the familiar place she always seemed to, resting her head on his chest as he arranged the book just right so he could read the words and she could see the pictures. “How to be a T-Rex, good pick baby girl. You want to be a T-Rex?”
“Yah,” she nodded once, firmly.
Joel chuckled.
“You’d be a good one,” he said. “Alright, let’s see how you become a T-Rex…”
He read Ellie picture book after picture book, the woman who’d brought them to see you coming to check on them and bring the girls snacks so Ellie didn’t get cranky and, eventually, he watched through the railing as you got up from the table, stretching your back and talking to your agent before going to find him. You noticed him watching you and even from up here, he could see you smile before you gave him a little wave and walked a little faster to the escalator, like you were just as excited to get to him as he was to get to you.
He met you at the top of the escalator and you smiled when you saw him there and you damn near tackled him the second you were off the escalator, your arms going around his neck as you pressed yourself close to him. He held onto you, nuzzling into you and breathing you in.
“I missed you,” you said, voice muffled in his shirt.
“I missed you, too. So damn much,” he said, kissing your temple before pulling back from you. “How was the signing? Your fans get enough of ya?”
“They’ve had plenty,” you laughed, kissing him once, quick and firm with an edge of heat to it. “But it was good. Ready to hit the town, birthday boy?”
He smiled.
“Ready.”
***
You’d never been happier to see Joel.
It had been two months since you’d gotten to really see or touch your husband and, even though you knew it was irrational, part of you was afraid it would be different when you saw him again. But it wasn’t. It was just like it had always been: you and Joel, perfect together.
You weren’t sure what to expect when going on tour but it hadn’t been this. You’d been reluctant to act too excited about the tour - or, more precisely, what the tour meant for your career - around Joel. What if he felt the same way Gale did? What if your success fostered resentment in him or he just thought having a wife who had to leave home for a few months at a time every time a new book came out wasn’t worth the trouble? What if you got home and he didn’t love you anymore?
Instead, it was the opposite. Joel made it obvious, the whole time you were away, that he loved you, missed you, thought you were worth the trouble. He found a way to take care of you, even from across the country. The two of you talked every night, texted every day and you spent the entire tour ready to be back home with him and Sarah not out of obligation or fear but because that’s where you belonged. You were sure of it.
But, now that Joel, Sarah, Ellie and Anna were with you, you were in less of a rush to get home.
The five of you left the bookstore - Joel talking Sarah into slimming down her new book selections to just two - and took the kids to get ice cream, Ellie clambering onto Joel’s lap, ice cream smeared over her face as she snuggled into his chest the way she had since she was a baby. You watched him laugh, ignoring the way she messed up his shirt as he held her close, letting her twist the wedding band on his finger and toy with the watch on his wrist to keep her entertained. The way Joel had been like a father to your niece - even when her own father had stepped up in ways you hadn’t expected - made your heart ache. It seemed impossible that you would get to go through life with this man, someone so caring and strong and good. It was like you’d gotten away with something you couldn’t ever have deserved. But he was yours.
“You’ve got everything under control, right?” You asked Anna a few hours later for what was probably the millionth time as you all got ready to leave the hotel.
“Oh my God, yes!” She laughed, Ellie on her hip. “I promise, I will only let Sarah smoke a little pot and have one beer. Two, max.”
“Yeah Mom,” Sarah smiled. “Just two beers, that’s all.”
“Alright, I deserved that,” you rolled your eyes and pulled Sarah in for a hug, pressing a kiss to her temple before releasing her. “You promise to be good for your aunt?”
“Yes,” she rolled her eyes. “I’ll stay close, no going off on my own, my phone stays on and I won’t take any drinks or anything like that from anyone I don’t know.”
“And you’ll text when you’re back in the room?” You asked, brows raised.
“Promise,” Sarah said. “You guys really don’t have to worry so much, I’m not a little kid anymore.”
“Oh I remember bein’ 14,” Joel said, his arm slipping around your waist. “This one wasn’t there to reel me in yet, found all kinds of trouble. Need you to take after your mama and keep your nose clean, kiddo.”
“I’ll make sure you won’t need to bail me out on your birthday,” she smirked. “Swear.”
“Well in that case,” Joel said. “We’ll see you three in the morning.”
The two of you watched them get into a cab before walking hand in hand to a restaurant not far away, fingers laced and bodies close.
“Still can’t believe Sarah’s old enough to be goin’ to concerts like that,” Joel said. “At least rock concerts.”
“Not sure it counts since she’s going with her aunt to see her cousin’s dad play,” you said. “I think if there’s a toddler with you at the concert, it’s less extreme.”
“Guess so,” Joel said with a laugh. “Anna had those ear covers for Ellie, right? Concerts are loud…”
“She had them,” you smiled a little. “Don’t worry.”
“Kid already don’t listen,” he said, trying to sound annoyed but failing. “Can’t have her going deaf on us too just because her dad is some rock star…”
The two of you had dinner and, as you sat across the table from Joel with a mocktail in your hand and your foot tracing up and down the inside of his leg, you found yourself thinking about the dinner that had helped set all this in motion. Back before you knew how he felt about you, back when you were hoping you could move on from the way you felt about him, back before everything had fallen into place just the way it seemed it had always been meant to, you’d sat across from your best friend and rifled through the rubble of your lives together, searching for some path forward that would lead you beyond the wreckage and to something that was worth having. So much had changed since then and you smiled to yourself, laughing once, making Joel look up from his menu to look at you.
“What?” He asked, brows raised.
“Nothing,” you shrugged, still smiling. “I was just remembering the dinner we had when we gave each other our lists.”
“Oh God,” Joel laughed, shaking his head a little. “Damn, seems like a lifetime ago now.”
“Doesn’t it?” You said. “But you know… I think we accomplished our lists.”
Joel laughed again but then thought for a moment.
“I think you’re right,” he said. “Haven’t thought about that for a minute but damn, we really did.”
“Sarah has now had several pool parties,” you said. “You’re back to playing at the bar a few nights a month…”
“Playin’ seems like an overstatement,” he said and you scoffed.
“Please,” you waved him off. “You have fans and you know it.”
“Started the business,” he said, ignoring you. “Get to design my own projects all the damn time now. Got your divorce good and finalized…” He lifted his left hand, flashing his wedding ring at you, making you laugh. “Sure as hell finished that book, too, Miss Two Time New York Times Bestselling Author.”
“Thank you, thank you,” you said, giving a little bow from your place across from him. “And I definitely feel like I’ve been there for Anna plenty over the years. Oh, and I have not one cat but two thanks to Swiftie and Puck.”
“Think I’m proudest of the last goal, though,” Joel said, earnest now. “Because when I put on my list that I wanted a stable relationship… What I really wanted was this with you. Didn’t think I’d get that, not in a million years, but it’s what I wanted and goddamn, baby, if I’m not thankful for it every damn day.”
You pressed your lips together for a moment, worried you might cry if you tried to speak.
“Yeah,” you said quietly, at a loss for words. “Me too.”
For Joel’s birthday, you’d gotten tickets to a nighttime architecture tour of the city and you smiled, watching your husband’s face light up as guide walked you through the different eras of the buildings and how the skyline had changed over time. The girls were still at the concert when you got back to your room - Sarah sleeping in Anna and Ellie’s room for the night, anyway - and the two of you took advantage of the privacy.
Joel undressed you slowly, reverently. His hands ranged over you gently, tracing over where you’d grown in the time you’d been apart.
“Fuck you’re beautiful,” he breathed, watching you with wide eyes as he knelt, naked between your legs. “Never thought I’d be able to want you any more but damn, seeing you carry our baby… wanna get you pregnant again right now. Don’t care that it’s impossible, I’m gonna damn well try.”
You laughed a little as he kissed over your body, starting at the base of your throat and going down over your chest, your stomach, hooking his fingers around the top of your panties - the last fabric still on - before sliding those down and off, too.
“Again, hm?” You teased but only a little, already breathless with want. “One baby isn’t enough for you, you need two?”
“I need as many as you’ll give me,” he said, working his shaft with one hand and tracing your slit with the other. “Don’t think there’s anything I want more than making a family with you, baby.”
He gently spread your sex open and pushed inside, the hand that was teasing your most tender place slipping up your body to cup your pregnant stomach, making you moan as he sank into you.
He worked you slowly and gently to start, your bodies quickly becoming reacquainted after months apart. Even though yours had changed so much since the last time you’d been with him, Joel still knew you, better than anyone else had ever known you he knew you. He knew exactly how to touch you, hold you, press into you to make you come around him.
“Fuck, Joel,” you keened below his touch when he made you come for a third time, tears pricking at your eyes from overstimulation. “I… I can’t…”
“It’s OK baby,” he said gently, his body curving over yours as he settled deep inside you. His breath was ragged against your skin and your thighs clutched tight around his hips. “I’ve got you, I’ll take care of you. I’ll always take care of you and I know you got one more in you, you can give me one more. Been so long since I got to make you come like this, you’re not gonna hold out on me now are you?”
“No,” you whimpered. “But…”
“I’ll get you there,” he said, already adjusting his angle so he was fitted inside you just so, his head flush against the most sensitive parts of you as his skin was pressed tight against your clit. “Don’t worry, I’ll take care of you.”
He did, working you slowly and passionately, his hands ranging over you, holding your swollen breasts and growing stomach and spreading hips. He kept his eyes locked on yours as he did, your last orgasm building over time until it was a tight knot at the very core of you, your back arched and fingers pressing into his skin.
“Come for me, baby,” he whispered. “Show me just how much you missed me when you milk my cock dry, come on.”
You cried out, your orgasm taking hold of your entire body, rippling out from your center to every inch of you, muscles fluttering and heart pounding.
“Fuck, there you go,” Joel groaned, sounding a little crazed and desperate himself. “Oh fuck, so pretty when you’re coming on my cock, feels so goddamn good, fuck!”
You felt him throb inside of you, the first pulse heavy and hard as he emptied himself into you and, for just a moment, it was like nothing else in the world existed outside of him and how much you loved him and the pleasure he gave you and you gave him.
“Jesus,” he said as he collapsed, half on top of you half beside you, breathless. “I can’t go that long without touchin’ you again, think I might die if I come that hard every time I get you back.”
You laughed a little and trailed your fingers up and down his bare back.
“Guess we’ll just have to stay close together then,” you said. “Darn.”
He laughed back.
“Guess so,” he said, sitting back from you just enough to slip out of you and you could feel his come slip out of you as he fell beside you on the bed. You snuggled into him and he kissed your forehead, his lips lingering on you. “Though if it is possible to get a pregnant woman pregnant again, we may have just done it.”
You snorted but pressed closer to him, savoring the feeling of his skin on yours, back in his arms where you belonged.
The next morning, you met the girls in the hotel restaurant for breakfast, the five of you taking your time before leaving to take the kids to the Statue of Liberty to be proper tourists when Sarah’s eyes lit up, looking at a table nearby.
“Mom!” She said excitedly, tapping your arm from across the table. “Mom, look! She has your book!”
You looked where Sarah nodded but quickly looked away as the woman looked at the dust jacket and at you.
“Lots of people do, kiddo,” you smiled. “But that is cool to see now and then.”
You finished breakfast and, as you were making sure everyone had jackets and room keys and everything else, the woman Sarah had pointed out to you came over, smiling sheepishly.
“I’m sorry,” she said. “I wasn’t trying to eavesdrop but… this is you, isn't it?”
She showed you the inside back flap of the dust jacket, the panel with your photo and a short bio, just your name followed by words that made your heart swell when you’d written them out: lives in Austin, Texas, with her husband, daughter and two cats.
“That’s me,” you smiled a little. “Thank you for reading, I hope you’re enjoying it.”
“Oh, I love it,” she said. “It’s almost like a sequel to your first one, like what would have been possible if Eli hadn’t died and it just… it’s making me hopeful that something worth it is out there, you know?”
You swallowed the little pinch of tears as Joel’s hand found your lower back.
“Yeah,” you said. “I do.”
“Would you mind signing it?” She asked, holding out a pen. “If it’s not too much trouble?”
“Of course,” you said, taking the pen and the book from her. “What’s your name?”
“Rebecca,” she said, smiling.
You flipped past the title page that said Golden and your name to the dedication page, another set of words that had been some of your favorite that you’d ever written:
For my Eli. Thank you for pulling me out of the past and for giving me the brightest future.
You penned your name - still your maiden name, for publishing purposes - and wrote Rebecca, wishing you the most golden tomorrow before handing the book back.
“Thank you so much,” she beamed.
“No problem,” you smiled back and watched her go before turning to help Anna and Joel load up Ellie’s stroller.
“Alright,” Joel said, clapping his hands together once and looking around at everyone. “We ready to go on an adventure?”
You smiled, looking at the man who you loved so much it almost hurt, who knew you as well as you knew him, who had given you everything you could have ever hoped for, the same man you’d loved since you were 15 years old. You’d be ready for anything with him.
“Yeah,” you said, leaning into him. “I think we are.”
