After a day and a half of traveling, he finally decided to come back, realizing that seeking the world's pleasures while escaping from his problems wasn't going to solve anything.

The blue hedgehog looked worse than ever. Under his eyes hanged black bags, which was very unlike the always-napping hero. He seemed to be distracted, gone, missing his natural sense of awareness.

Yes, he was back, but was he really here?

Lost in his mind, Sonic couldn't help but think about his future. A place where he was reunited with Tails, where he had solved everything, as promised. The feeling was unfamiliar to Sonic, he was too used to living in the present, though, it was comforting. He wanted to stay in that thought and ignore his whole surroundings, but he knew he could not do that. He had to figure out what to do.. and fast.

Can you blame him, though? His introverted intuition was the one thing keeping him together, almost in one piece. Almost.

my mythology pet peeve is when someone describes a scenario in which they keep nearly getting something and then having it snatched away, and everyone's like "one must imagine sisyphus" no!!! one must imagine TANTALUS!!! sisyphus = being made to perform a pointless, aggravating task over and over without ever making any progress. tantalus = being offered a glorious reward only for it to vanish as soon as you reach for it. they are NOT the same
