Tumblr media
A funny feeling took over her upon hearing his name. "Matyr." She couldn't help but test it out on her own tongue, confirming how the odd sensation flourished inside her. As if there was some sort of power tied to his name and to the act of speaking it.
Filing those thoughts to be examined later, she took the offered card and glanced over it for a second before safely storing it away. "It surely doesn't happen often under these circumstances, but..." Angel wasn't one to lie for the sake of pleasantries in the first place, but their meeting felt significant in a way she couldn't quite pinpoint just yet. "It was nice to meet you." As nice as a shady alley allowed.
Meeting someone powerful who wasn't hostile towards mutantkind didn't happen every day. It would be nice to remain in good terms with him, but if that wasn't possible, being aware of him and his line of work would be useful too. "I'll keep in touch, handsome."
"Sounds like a fair deal." He didn't like the idea of tracking some poor kid down and having to drag him away for who knows what sort of punishment by the law. Being Matyr, he wasn't blind to the fact that not everyone was so welcoming of mutants and that not every cop would treat them the same as everyone else, regardless of what powers they had.
Or, conversely, if it didn't even reach that point and broke out into an all-out brawl between human police and mutants. Either way, nobody walked out of it well and the god certainly didn't want to be in the middle of it -- - or part of the cause. He would get a few extra names to add to the punishment list, but that wasn't exactly what he was looking for.
Tumblr media
"Just what I was thinking." He agreed with a nod of his head, rummaging through one of his inside jacket pockets to find one of his own business cards, the name 'Matyr Han' at the top with his details below. "Swap you, Angel." He smoothly smiled cheekily, taking the card as he held out his own in return. "Name's Matyr."

Drives me insane that people categorise Martyrs (2008, French Ver.) in the same bracket as A Serbian Film. Like, did you not see the love baked into the movie? How love is what ultimately moves the plot to where it ends up? How it is the core message the film wants you to come away with?
Vague spoilers under cut
It shoves in your face the concept that pain and suffering is a woman's birthright. We are "predisposed" to torment that, given the right nudge, can turn into enlightenment. "Matyrs" or rather, a "Witness" to our enduring trauma, and the movie shows you that it's wrong. It's flawed, and evil and cruel.
Women who become Matyrs do so in SPITE of their pain. They are fuelled by their love of something, someone, and find peace in it. Anna's love for Lucie, her deep empathy and kindness to those around her is what ultimately frees her from suffering.
And yet, the film is careful to express to us witnesses, that those who become "victims" instead, are not deserving of vitriol or hate, or fear. They have personhood and value. They are not lesser because they "failed" in becoming Martyrs, rather that to try and engineer the Divine, results in meaningless suffering of innocents. Anna became a Martyr because she had the tools in which she could find meaning past her torture. She had her memories and love of Lucie, her innate desire for the betterment of everyone she came in contact with and the knowledge of "why" she was forced to endure inhumanity. The countless "victims" did not have that. They were women who were vulnerable, alone, and to them, their agonies had no meaning to it past simple sadism.
Love brought Anna to follow Lucie, and end up falling into the wrong hands. And Love guided Anna past it.

As soon as Logan had spotted the stone, he had a feeling it would be dearly missed, so he made it a point to get it back to the man who dropped it. Though he proved to be on a mission presently, he somehow gained his attention and tried not to chuckle at the exclamation the stranger let slip at the sight of the rock.
Tumblr media
The blonde was not one to find offense at the way the rock is snatched: things like this sometimes held high emotional significance in people. He nods with a soft smile at the thanks. "You're welcome." Honey brows furrow slightly at the extra comments, though. "No, I don't need money. I've got something similar to that at home and I thought it belongs with you than in someone else's backyard." Thoughts flit to the worry stone on the shrine back home on his bookshelf, his Mimas stone as Melanie coined it. "Don't let me keep you, it seemed like you were busy."

So one of the biggest things I've taken from this is that Reigen Arataka could not beat Light Yagami in a verbal spar because Reigen is only ever able to out-argue reasonable adults

"I used to walk with a sprig of lavender in my pocket—smelling it I could go to almost any other point in my life, which I believe was as close to time travel as anyone’s come. I’d like credit for that."

"How fond are you of this client?" Probably not that much if he was passing on that type of information to her, but still. Better to ask and be sure.

Only in asoiaf fandom would someone call the descendants (Starks) of the original colonizers (First Men) as indigenous.
Just because the Andals colonized the original colonizers, it doesn't make the First Men indigenous lol.
The Children of the Forest are the only indigenous people of the Westeros. And no one else.
And the First Men committed genocide against the CotF.
Yes, George's writing about CotF is deeply problematic. But saying that they're not human enough to imply they're not indigenous; is a real life justification colonizers have used (the Natives look too different, they worship the wrong Gods, their way of living is wrong) to defend their actions (and genocide).
Just because the Andals did something similar to them to what they did to the CotF, it doesn't make them indigenous.
It doesn't matter that the First Men adopted their Gods.
Hypothetically, if the rest of Westeros adopted the Old Gods, it won't make them indigenous either.
Just like the Dornish are still considered of the Rhoynar, even after they adopted the Seven. (To be exact, the present Dornishmen are both Rhoynar and Andals.)
*sigh*
Signed by a very tired women of color who grew up in a former colony.

To say Logan had an internal sigh of relief flood through him would've been an understatement. Often times, nowadays at least, he usually refrained from any form of confession, even if it's something small such as this. Something more subtle. But he couldn't deny it, not even a little bit. He'd seen Matyr work, seen him exhausted, and the blonde had a rather strong pull to him, to want to help him bounce back on his rough days or see that smile as often as possible. And to see one so soft now, so...genuine in authenticity, it made his heart flutter.
Tumblr media
The hand on his knee is not shaken away or ignored, either. Rather when he seems to notice the other growing a tad nervous, Logan grows wary. While he is not one to outright run, he is easy to spook, so to speak. Given what he'd already been through when thinking of confessing, well, while this is nowhere near that situation, he still feels a rush of butterflies. His hand finds and settles atop Matyr's for what comfort it may provide. "I'm listening...surely I've heard worse before." He tries to add with a soft smile. "Take your time, I'm not going anywhere."
