Hypnosis Mic -D.R.B.- Rule the Stage (Wicked Requiem VS Fling Posse)

Synopsis:

The day has finally come for Wicked Requiem to see who their first opponent will be in the Division Rap Battles. To their shock, the division they're going against is reigning champions Fling Posse. They know that the odds are stacked against them. At the same time in Shibuya, Ramuda Amemura has been ordered by Chuohku to do whatever it takes to defeat Edogawa as they are a major threat.  

Wanting to destress before the big battle Kaoru Shinozaki and Kanra Akemi head down to one of their favorite spots to relax. To their surprise, Gentaro Yumeno and Dice Arisugawa are there as well who at first glance confuse Kanra for Ramuda with Dice even asking her if she's related to Ramuda. Suddenly, they are surrounded by a gang who demand that Dice pay the debt he owes them or pay the price. The four of them then team up to defeat the gang. 

Meanwhile, in his studio, Ramuda goes through the files of Wicked Requiem given to him. To his horror the photo of the little sister he long thought dead stares back at him. Realizing that he was lied to about his sister's death leaves his studio in a rush. Running into Yuriko Kuromiya who warns him that if he tries anything during the fight, she'll make him regret being born. With his emotions already in a state of disarray Yuriko's words send Ramuda over the edge. He attacks her and the two begin to fight.

Finally, the day has come for the two teams to battle. Just before he is supposed to step on stage Ramuda is met by Ritsuko Okada who tells him Chuohku has given one last order. He is to capture Kanra and bring her back.  Failure to do so and his teammates will pay the price. Now with the battle just on the horizon, Ramuda must choose between his posse or the little sister who he failed to protect all those years ago.

There was a knock at your door. You were confused. You weren't expecting anyone this late at night. Who could it possibly be? When you opened the door, you mentally smacked yourself. You should've known better. Who else would come visit you out of the blue at this hour of the night.

Dice gave you a sheepish grin. "Can I come in?"

"Not smelling like that, you're not." You groaned and covered your nose. "Seriously, did you walk through the sewers to get here?"

He gave an awkward laugh and rubbed the back of his neck. "More like I woke up in the landfill, and on my way back to Shibuya, I walked through some sewers and back alleys with less than pleasant garbage."

"Why?"

"I needed to see you." He gave you pleading eyes as he dropped to his knees and clasped his hands before him. "Please let me come in! I want to sleep somewhere warm and have a hot meal and you're the best at both! Please, please, please, do me this favor and I'll pay you back tenfold, I promise!"

You groaned. You shouldn't indulge in his disgusting behavior. You should toss him to the street, like the stray dog he was. But you knew he would go and bother Ramuda or Gentaro, and you wouldn't hear the end of it from them if you did. So instead, you mentally cursed yourself out, and allowed him to enter.

"Take off your shoes and coat first." You said. "And then go straight upstairs. You're taking a bath before you even think about trekking any more of your filth into my place."

He gave you a mock salute. "Yes ma'am."

As he did as he was told, you purse your lips. You knew Dice. You knew that his baths were few and far between. You knew it was a bad idea, but you really didn't need him destroying your bathroom, not if you could help it.

You trail after him and before he shuts the bathroom door, you hold it open. He gives you a slightly worried smile. "What's up?"

"I'm going to help you."

He paled at your words. "No, you really don't have to-"

"Dice, I'm helping you, end of discussion."

"But..." He stopped when he saw your serious expression. He swallowed thickly before nodding. "Okay."

You entered the bathroom and began to turn the water on. You heard him undress behind you. You didn't turn to face him, trying to give him a modicum of privacy. When he alerted you that he was ready, you turned away and allowed him to get in.

You kept your eyes firmly on his upper body, allowing them to scan over his toned chest muscles. He seemed a little self conscious as he crossed his arms, but you rolled your eyes.

"It's nothing I haven't seen before, Dice. You take your shirt off all the time in the summer. And when Ramuda forces you to model for him."

"This is different." His voice is quiet, and a bit breathier. You don't comment on it. You want to save him some of his pride.

You instead get to work on washing his hair. Though you have to ignore what could be living in it, you are thorough with your washing. Your fingers work through each knot gently and you give him a small scalp massage as you do so. At first his posture is stiff and rigid, but the more you card your fingers through his hair, he begins to relax. He leans into your touch and you can hear him make soft sighs and whimpers. 

A sneaky thought enters your mind and you give an experimental tug on his hair. He lets out a noise that's a cross between a yelp of surprise and a moan. Just as you thought.

His cheeks explode with a blush and he tries to move away from you. "No fair."

"Sorry, I couldn't help myself."

"Just, hurry up, please."

"I will, I will." You then began to wash all the shampoo out of his hair. What was once a greasy, dark blue rat's nest, begins to lighten and soften under your touch. You've always loved Dice's hair. It was so pretty and matched his eyes. You wanted nothing more than to keep running your fingers through his soft hair. But there was still more work to be done.

While his eyes were still closed, you began to lather up a loofah and began to scrub him down. He yelped again at your touch, but you quietly shushed him. His eyes bore into yours as you carefully and expertly scrubbed his arms, neck, back, and chest. You didn't go any lower, again, trying to save him some pride.

"Do you want me to do your legs or do you have it covered?" You asked sweetly.

"I'll be fine." He muttered. As you stood up to leave, he reached out his hand to grab your wrist. "Um... thank you."

"You're welcome. There will be spare clothes for you outside of the door. You can change into them when you're done."

And with that, you left to get him some clean clothes to wear. You took his dirty clothes and instantly shoved them into your washer with as much soap as possible. After setting the clean clothes out, you went into your kitchen and began to make him a nice warm meal, just like he wanted.

As you finished up your cooking, he came out in the new clothes, and his hair dry. You gave him his meal, which he devoured in seconds. You then allowed him to sleep on the couch, giving him an extra blanket and pillow.

"Good night." He said as you headed for your room.

You paused and nodded to him. "Good night. And if you'd like, I can give you another bath in the morning."

Saburo Yamada

"Is it bad to say that I see Saburo-kun as a mix between Yorii and Elliot? Not to say I don't love my younger brothers, because I do. But if you took Elliot's intellect and combined it with Yorii's arrogance, you'd pretty much have Saburo-kun. ...Although I don't know how much of his personality can be attributed to arrogance. When he isn't putting himself on a pedestal, he's putting his oldest brother, Ichiro-san, on one. It's good that he cares much for his older brother. He and I are of the same mind on that. But he should be careful that his love for him doesn't grow into worship."

Rio Mason Busujima

"I don't venture to Yokohama much, unless it's to get something to eat. After seeing how that city is run and much less the team running it, I don't really care much for that place. Rio-san would have to be the main exception. Elliot's told me that he helped when he ventured into Yokohama (I wish he would have told me he was going there, by the way). He seems... okay. A stark contrast to his teammates. ...Still, I have to wonder how Elliot can eat this man's food. I got on Yorii for throwing it out when it was for Elliot, but... perhaps next time, I can get Elliot to put it somewhere else..."

Dice Arisugawa

"I don't mind the Shibuya team all that much, but this guy has to be the one member of the team that I dislike. He spends so much time begging for money, only to go and waste it in a casino with hopes that he'll somehow "strike it rich". I'm holding out hope that he matures with age and grows out of this mindset, but... well, if he winds up dead someday, I'm not going to be surprised."

Doppo Kannonzaka

"I love Yorii, but I really wish he'd stop teasing Elliot so much. He says its his way of 'toughing him up', but I don't think so. Lately, he's been comparing Elliot to Doppo-san from Shinjuku. He says that if Elliot doesn't start fighting back against the idiots at school who bother him, then Doppo-san is who he will eventually turn into. ...While I won't say Yorii-kun is wrong, he could have phrased it a different way. But I suppose that's Yorii for you..."

Rei Ayamado

"...This man feels me with bad spirits, which is ironic since I already have a malevolent being inside of me. Both Elliot and Yorii think they've seen him before, and... I don't know why, but I get the feeling I've seen him, as well. I don't know what it is about him that makes me feel ill at ease, but... I don't like it. Rio Mason Busujima 

“Rio Mason Busujima, also known by the MC name Crazy M. Subject is the 3rd member of Yokohama Division’s MAD TRIGGER CREW and a former naval officer of the Special Extermination Operations Unit. Subject still speaks and behaves as if he were still in the military. He currently lives in the woodlands of Yokohama. Also, it is also my personal opinion that his food is not as terrible as others make it out to be. Reika brought some back once and the taste was interesting, to say the least. Data concludes he is not much of a threat but precautions should be taken against his rap ability.”

Dice Arisugawa 

“Dice Arisugawa, also known by the MC name Dead or Alive. Subject is the 3rd member of Shibuya Division’s Fling Posse and an avid gambler. Subject has a severe untreated gambling addiction and often begs his teammates to lend him money.” Kanon chuckles. “I wonder what goes on through Tohoten’s head when she sees her son? Tohoten is not who I would describe as bursting with motherly love. Although she seems to somewhat care for him considering she ordered the clone to keep an eye on him. Data concludes he is not much of a threat.”

Doppo Kannonzaka

“Doppo Kannonzaka, also known by the MC name DOPPO. Subject is the 3rd member of Shinjuku Division’s Matenro and a salaryman with E.L. Medical Co., Ltd. Subject has no notable characteristics to the point that is his most notable characteristic. However, caution should be taken around him as he becomes unstable when pushed far enough taking his anger out on whoever has wronged him. Although I will admit he is strong in his own right as he is a major reason as to why Shinjuku won the 1st D.R.B. Data concludes he is not much of a threat but precautions should be taken against his rap ability.”

Rei Amayado 

“....Rei Amayado, also known by the MC name MC MasterMind. Subject is the 3rd member of Osaka Division’s Dotsuitare Hompo and self-proclaimed conman.” Kanon is silent before she speaks, however, her next words are laced with a burning hatred. “Subject is an arrogant vile creature who deserves to die a long and torturous death. How Chuohku hasn't gotten rid of him I’ll never know but mark my words the next time I see him I won't hesitate to snuff him out. Data concludes that all precautions should be taken against him.”

“It's because of you that I am like this…” Kanon stares at the conman’s photo for a long while before erupting. “YOU BETTER PRAY THAT I DON'T GET MY HANDS ON YOU AMAYADO! HAHAHAHA! BECAUSE WHEN I DO, OH WHEN I DO THERE WON'T BE ANYTHING LEFT OF YOU! YOU’LL PAY FOR TURNING ME INTO THIS MONSTER!” 

Hitoya Amaguni 

“Hitoya Amaguni, also known by the MC name Heaven or Hell. Subject is the 3rd member of Nagoya Division’s Bad Ass Temple and a lawyer. Subject is known for taking on any case for the right amount of money. However, he hates bullying and is willing to represent victims pro bono. So, what is Hypmic?

Hypnosis Mic -Division Rap Battle- (ヒプノシスマイク-Division Rap Battle-) is a Japanese multimedia project, based off rap and hip-hop, created by King Records under their EVIL LINE RECORDS label. (Hypmic Wiki)

Set in the vague future after World War III, the Party of Words, led by Otome Tohoten, takes over Japan and sets up base in Chuuoku. Outside Chuo Ward, Japan is split into different divisions. All conflict under this administration must be settled, not through physical violence, but with use of Hypnosis Mics, which are specially designed to be able to affect people's nervous systems.

Each division has designated representatives (a group of three) who take part in the Division Rap Battle every year, where the winners get money, power, fame (we got it all), for their divisions. There are six divisions as of now, but we only care about the one for the sake of this poll!

TLDR: All conflicts are now solved via rap battles that physically hurt you because anime tech. Every year, the DRB takes place, which is basically a big state-sponsored rap battle tournament.

Most Hypmic lore and story content can be found through the drama tracks that King Records releases, but there's also a manga and a stage play.

Okay, now that that's out of the way, who is Ramuda Amemura?

(spoiler-free version) He's the pink one on the left. Ramuda Amemura, MC Name easy R!

The optimist sees the donut, the pessimist sees the hole.

He's the leader of Fling Posse, which is the representative group of the Shibuya Division. Aside from that, though, his main thing is that he's a fashion designer who's really popular!

He's very cutesy and uses that to his advantage, but he has a little bit of a "dark" side. It seems like he doesn't take things very seriously, but he puts focus into the things that he finds interest in! Previously, before Fling Posse, he was part of a group called The Dirty Dawg (comprised of four members, not super relevant to the poll, but very relevant to his character).

He can usually be found with a lollipop or two in hand (as you can see from the image), and it's referenced in his first solo song as well (Drops). He is very pink! What's his deal? Well... we'll go over that in a bit. Because there are so many spoilers.

Next up, who is Dice Arisugawa?

(spoiler-free version) He's the green one on the right, with the Komaeda jacket. Dice Arisugawa, MC Name Dead Or Alive!

Live the life you love, love the life you live.

He's a member of Fling Posse, basically got chosen and picked up by Ramuda. He's a gambler who always finds himself with empty pockets, and he doesn't really have a permanent home.

He's kind of rough and tumble, and a lot of times can be simple-minded, but he's generally got a good heart and is just trying to live his life! He's dogboy and catboy equilibrium. There's this scene where Ramuda and Gentaro (more on him later) are both just kind of. Circling him and nya-ing. And he's like, what the fuck.

He isn't a fan of stability and routine, and finds the thrill of the gamble much more appealing. If he doesn't have money, he'll bet anythingn else he has -- including his life.

He can usually be found with his lucky dice! He uses them to make his decisions, and he basically also used them to decide whether he would take up Ramuda's offer to join Fling Posse.

What is this Fling Posse of which you speak?

Wow, I'm so glad you asked! Mild spoilers ahead, but nothing insanely plot relevant, and it's stuff you'll be able to find after like a cursory search.

Anyway, I think it's important to talk about Fling Posse because it's a vital part of both of their characters. Aside from Ramuda and Dice, there's actually another member of Fling Posse -- Gentaro Yumeno, MC Name Phantom. He's a funny guy, but I won't talk about him too much. Important things to know is that he's a writer and he likes to tease a lot, particularly Dice, because he's gullible.

Fling Posse was established to take part in the first DRB. Their thing is kind of that they're the guys who do things because why not? Living their lives. Leading the lives they want to live. Note the character quotes from Ramuda and Dice. Gentaro's is also similar, "Life is desire, not meaning." So, they're vibing.

Ramuda was the one who gathered them, but before that, they were all strangers. Like, they didn't know each other, but Ramuda chose them for a reason. So. Awkward. They didn't know each other very well, and all three of them have their own things about getting close to others, so they were distant at first, veiled beneath light teasing and surface-level connections. Ramuda is distant for story spoiler reasons, and Dice worries about being tied down to Fling Posse.

But, eventually, they're able to get closer. Hang out. Although there are still some secrets they're keeping, they're comfortable with each other.

They lost the first DRB, got eliminated in the first round against another group, and it kind of hit them a little hard. Ramuda was pretty hung up on it in particular. but they got together and resolved to work harder and do better. Winning is the goal they have in mind now for "next time".

And, yay! They won the second DRB! ICONIQUE BEHAVIOR. Also, very significant for more story spoilers, which I'll go into in the next part.

So, what's their deal?

!! SPOILER WARNING !! Mostly, this part deals with things that happen between the first and second DRB. When these story beats were initially made known, the fandom EXPLODED. So, yeah. IMO, it won't really impact your enjoyment if you know these things before getting into Hypmic, but if you're sensitive to spoilers, then here's your warning.

(Note: I don't remember when everything got announced relative to other announcements, but all of this did happen in some order.)

Okay, so Ramuda's thing is that he's a clone. Literally, grown in a lab, in a bunch of test tubes. There's a picture of it in the manga which I won't post for copyright reasons, but just trust me, it was insane. There were always theories about it but it getting confirmed was a whole other thing. Anyway, surprise! He was created by the Party of Words to act as their tool, basically. And there's a lot of them. So many Ramudas.

Ramuda wasn't born a human and is reliant on the special lollipops he has to live. The lollipops are supplied by Chuuoku. And. You might be able to see where this is going.

Because Ramuda genuinely grows to care for Fling Posse, and he cared for TDD too, and he wasn't made to care for things, see? He was made to just be Chuuoku's tool. And so he's defective. And Chuuoku decides to just leave him to die.

And. There's this really fucked up drama track where Ichijiku (one of the women in the Party of Words, who is the right hand woman of the Prime Minister, Otome) tells Ramuda that he's just going to be left to die, and Ramuda starts begging for his life, terribly heartwrenching, and Ichijiku kicks him. Anyway.

He wasn't born a human, but he is human, and he wants to continue living this life, his own life, one that is dictated by himself and not by the government.

Now, where does Dice enter this? Well, fun fact! DICE IS OTOME'S SON. HIS MOM IS THE PRIME MINISTER.

Otome does seem to genuinely care for him still, but that's neither here nor there because she was about to infinite tsukuyomi a bunch of people in the most recent drama tract.

Actually, it's less relevant than you'd think, but still, that was insane. He was born as a rich kid, so he knows piano, violin, some other languages than Japanese, insanity. My favorite silly trope. Anyway.

Dice and Gentaro are the ones who find Ramuda, and Ramuda tells them the truth, and Dice and Gentaro choose to stick by him and support him.

It's one of the reasons why they're so determined to win the second DRB, because it's the most straightforward way to be able to make sure Ramuda survives. As the winners, they'd have the right to demand some things, which would include medicine for Ramuda to survive.

Ramuda and Dice are both very similar. They both divert suspicion and lower guards by virtue of seeming harmless. Just a cute fashion designer and a puppy-like street rat. They're both hiding big secrets. They're both smokers!

They were basically brought up to have the same ideals as the Party of Words. Dice is literally the son of the prime minister. And yet, both of them choose to live their own lives, divert from the paths that were laid out before them. And, yes, it's full of hurt and pain and suffering. And a chance of death. But they're able to find people who support them, and they're able to find each other.

And maybe they could survive without each other. Dice would get along just fine gambling, Ramuda wouldn't have to deal with all this messy getting attached and being left to die business. But they like to hang out and be together, and they like to care for each other, and they're better for it. Dice gets serious, genuinely cares about something more than just gambling and food and the thrill of life. And Ramuda finds something of his own, something that was creates by the orders of the Party of Words but something that he has turned into his own safe space.

Around Fling Posse, Ramuda is able to put away that mask of bubblegum cheer that he always keeps on, and allows himself to just sit in the silence and do fashion design, which he genuinely loves. Around Fling Posse, Dice is able to be silly and mess around, knowing that there will always be a place for him here regardless.

Genuinely, they make me so fucked up. They care about each other deeply, but they don't pry into open wounds. They would die for each other, but they continue to live for each other. God. Um. So, yeah. Hope you enjoyed that ramble!
