a warm smile adorned doran's face as his son entered his chambers. "i think we are due for a little celebration," he declared, a nod directing a servant to uncork a favored bottle. pouring generous glasses for both, doran settled into his seat, eyes filled with pride as he regarded his son. every step of the way dante had surpassed any expectation he might have for him. and every step he surprised him in a different way.

"it seems you're settling well into your role in the court. i've received nothing but commendations for your work. i'm very proud of you, you know," he expressed, lifting his glass in a toast. there were moments in a father's life when he glimpsed at his son and felt an overwhelming sense of pride, a hope that he might surpass him, learn from past mistakes, and evolve into a better man. but there was something about being a son of an uller that added a new layer. knowing at any moment a knife could be driven in your back by the very son you are so proud of.

observing dante now, there was no premonition of betrayal.

"as everything falls into place here in sunspear, i believe it's time to ponder future plans," doran proposed, leaning forward to replenish dante's drink, it seemed like they might need it for this conversation. "i know i'll sound like every father out there, but... i think it's time to discuss marriage." the words lingered, loaded with a blend expectation, and the weight of tradition but also the hope that he may already have someone in mind.

something ive noticed while reading dantes inferno is that there seems to be a lot of italians in hell

After the hurricane recovery is starting in the states and the damage is so bad in some places, they're either gone or don't have a single road left into town.

The power outage map for the states affected is honestly astounding. I actually know friends in southwestern Ohio that had a tornado/cyclonic thunderstorm from this system knock their power out.

Some places might not get power back for 2+ weeks.

The western half of North Carolina, where the Appalachian mountains are, is so badly damaged that some news stations are warning from any travel, and to consider every road closed until further notice.

Asherville is so damaged there seem to be almost no major roads left in or out of town.

The flooding from this storm is devastating and has destroyed entire towns and wiped some off the map. Damns and other infrastructure are failing all over the affected areas.

Until the flood waters recede sometime in the next few days, we won't have a full scope of just how badly people have been affected, nor will we have a final death toll.

Oh also, apparently the governor of Tennessee has not declared a state of emergency despite several places being catastrophically inundated. Instead he's done this, which is pissing a lot of people off.

The major reason Dante and Vergil's rivalry works better than almost any other take on the trope is because the games are totally self aware about how dumb and immature the whole trope is and they lean way the hell into it. Like yeah, there's real stakes, turmoil and emotional wounds between them that drive their eternal conflict but at the same time it's pretty obvious that the real reason they fight all the time is because they're both just the biggest goddamn children on the planet.

It really is just playground bickering elevated to apocalyptic proportions by sheer virtue of them both being demigods.
