On Ethan Winters and the Baker Family, I think that their perspective is actually incredibly interesting for the franchise. While the rest of the main characters (and a lot of the side characters tbh) did live fairly normal lives before they were drastically effected by bio-terrorism in some way, they were pretty much all still in law enforcement/protection shit anyway. Like, in one way or another they were going to be putting their lives on the line and probably be traumatized by their work at some point.

However, Ethan was just a dude. He was this random fucking guy from LA and completely out of the sphere of general potential threat like that. He happened to marry a lady who was working with bioweapons, and even then he had zero fucking clue on any of it until he was thrown head first into the deep end. The Baker family had genuinely zero connections to bioweapons pre Eveline. Maybe they were a bit dysfunctional, or maybe they were super normal.

That vulnerability of him not having any real combat experience or training and the fear of having one's life fall apart is part of what made 7 so scary for me. That and it was incredibly interesting to see what happened to the Baker Family as well. It's both horrifying and heartbreaking to think that they were just trying to help a little girl and their lives were ruined because of it. That one act turned their home into a murder den and their family into literal monsters, simply because they were trying to be kind.

I know resident evil isn't exactly a franchise that's well known for its explorations into trauma in any real way, and the focus is on people actively in the field since that's where most of the action and horror happens, but I think Ethan and the Bakers open up a really good potential for perhaps more civilian perspective. We're shown time and time again that this shit will destroy cities, and yet we don't really have a game that focuses on civilians. It would be a great source of potential for horror to maybe explore more of those perspectives. There are many many ways this could be done that differ from Ethan's initial experience in 7 that combine both that classic RE survival horror and action.

However, I'm very aware that this likely will not happen. Still, it's a nice thought.

auggie is literally the center of his world to be honest. like everything DOES come back to him. (←song ref) he’s very much everything in my mind. everything somehow correlates back to auggie. i love auggie. — he also lost his shit on a guy named ethan (so many ethans! not ajax’s ethan) and like everyone was bamboozled.

(he heard from cage that ethan and a few other guys pressured cage into drinking alcohol, and he confronted ethan about it. he ended up basically drenching ethan in alcohol. — he took a cup of alcohol from someone who offered it to him, asked ethan “you want a drink? you look like you could use a drink.” and splashed the drink at him. he barely hesitated to do so. he kept splashing drinks at him, definitely making his point that peer pressure does not feel good. his sarcasm and lack of hesitation to splash drinks at him really showed ethan what it might feel like to be pressured into drinking.)

uhh this ended up a lot longer than i intended it to be. that happens very often, that’s okay.

There are a good number of ppl who feel like Val and Liam are very canon which I honestly feel like has to do with how important of a character Liam ends up being for the first part of the story, the entire ending to the first half of the common route is dedicated to befriending him lmao, but I don't think very many ppl in a canon contest would actually vote him over Ethan or Sophie

I feel once they have way more content ppl will feel like at least Chandra will have more Canon-ness, Not sure about Opal because of how his route starts off but I think the villain redemption would be enough to get ppl to feel like he Should be pursued, but right now Opal is very "where are they going with this" and Chandra is just funny to people.

Okay dead reckoning spoilers ahead ill put a cut just in case also if you like the movie maybe don’t read either 👀😬 but if you do please read the whole thing or at least the last paragraph because that in my opinion is the most important thing i have to say

Before i say anything i know im in the wrong here, i have a really personal issue with the movie that i dont feel comfortable sharing but its one of the names used A LOT in the movie, so that definitely plays a part in my opinion whether i like it or not. That being said, usually i can ignore stuff like that, ive done it with other movies but there was nothing else to grasp my attention so i got stuck on things like that.

Also wanna say this first because i feel like it explains why i hate a lot of the things i do. I could really be reaching here but i think they’re trying to set up hayley as the new face of these movies and dead reckoning part 2 is gonna be the end for tom. She was the main character, Ethan was not. She was a part of 2 stunts out of the 3 big ones in the movie and Toms solo stunt (the cliff jump) was maybe a minute of the movie and correct me if im wrong but thats never happened before, Toms always had a big stunt thats just him that takes up a good, MEMORABLE, chunk of the movie, and that just wasnt in this.

I didn’t like it at all. Up until the airport i loved the movie, i really liked the way it was shot, i liked the mi1 callbacks, i really liked ethan and ilsa and everything was good, i could ignore the AI plot (which i knew i wasnt gonna like going into it i hate AI villains) and just watch the movie but after the airport i started to not like the movie anymore. During the fiat car chase i realized i was gonna really not gonna like the movie. That was one of the three big stunts of the movie and i hated it, it just felt really rushed and there were so many characters who i didnt know and didnt know why they were there, WHICH IS OKAY i love not knowing things thats part of my brand im all about that but it just did not work here, sometimes not knowing anything about character works and other times it doesnt.

I dont remember a lot from the middle chunk of the movie, i wasnt enjoying it but trust me i was trying. Not even benji and luther made the movie enjoyable and to top it all off ilsa died and im getting mad again but that was one of the worst deaths i think ive seen. If shes not actually dead then thank god but also im sorry mcq but awful writing unless something got cut because she was free? She was dead? There was no bounty on her head anymore, that was why she “died” at the start of the movie and correct me if im wrong but she really didnt need to be in Venice with her face showing either. It really feels like she just died so hayley could be in the spotlight with ethan and there were too many characters so they had to get rid of her along with benji and luther who arent dead but may as well be with their 10 minutes of screen time.

But all of this i can look past, i dont like the plot? whatever, thats not why i, personally, watch mission impossible movies, i watch for the stunts, i wanna see tom cruise do some crazy shit but i didnt even get that. Im really mad about the lack of stunts in this movie i feel insane idk if anyone else is complaining about this but i didnt like a single one of them. Im so let down and i hate that im so upset over something like this but i am. Thats the promise thats being made when you go see these movies and in my opinion they didn’t deliver. All the fighting was really good i loved the fight in that tight alleyway with ethan and paris but i hated the car chase, the cliff jump could’ve been better? i dont even know what to say about that one tbh, and the train, ohhhhhh the train, i dont even wanna talk about the train, i was trying so hard to like it i wanted it to redeem the whole movie for me but it just didnt, i feel so bad but it didnt and im so disappointed.

Rating Scream Killers

spoiler warning for some of these. You could leave this post bc of spoilers. Kind of Ironic Most killers in Scream usually wear flannel which might be on purpose lol.

Billy Loomis: 10/10. I sound so biased lmao but hear me out. It was so obvious it was him but I think it was made on purpose so that they wouldn’t assume it was him because of how obvious it was. So like he planned this pretty smooth and I found that quite intelligent. And somehow convincing Sidney he wasn’t the killer when the evidence was there? Also intelligent. So a pretty good ghostface. Good kills

Stu Macher: 10/10. Also as clever and intelligent. He had some good kills. You can kind of tell who killed who and stuff. He was a funny character in general and really brought out that psychotic so well and even up until the end was like humorous. His death quite funny so bonus for that

Mickey Alteri: 8/10. His motive was kind of dumb but he was good and stuff. Not much to say about him but yeah.

Nancy Loomis: 8/10. Mickey did more but she did successfully kill Randy so, I gotta give credit. Her motive kind of reasonable. but ironic since she abandoned her son. Psycho just like her son. Like they say, Apple doesn't fall far from the tree.

Roman Bridger: 10/10. I’m just giving people 10/10 here lmao but like unpopular opinion he was a GREAT ghostface. Most had to have a second but he did this well on his own. And actually could change his voice to others instead of just like how Billy and Stu did. Mastermind behind it all which was a plot twist am I right? Stu and Billy couldn’t have done it without him. Though his motive also kind of dumb and pointless. Still, super intelligent.

Jill, 10/10: Idk, she was SO good and i definifely found her to maybe the most evil Ghostface, Sounds weird considering Billy and Stu BUT She was willing to kill her own cousin for fame and the way she played Charlie was lowkey kind of funny.

Charlie: 6/10, I found him funny and like had good kills. Still, was an easily manipulated kind of guy in my eyes, But overall, Decent.

Amber: 5/10. Ruthless for sure, and good kills. Only Killer to ever successfully kill a main character(excluding Randy). But like, dumb motive. Also lowkey kind of obvious she was a killer.

Richie: 1/10. Give him one point for not being obvious. But like, what did he even do lol. He didn't really kill and really had nothing I could give my opinion on.

Quinn: 5/10. Really did Nothing. Besides like I guess almost kill Gale. Points for Not being really obvious. Motive was just a repeat of Scream 2 tbh. I liked her character.

Ethan: 7/10 I sound so baised lol but like he did more. But still, quite annoying and kind of obvious which is why he doesn't really do high for me. HOWEVER, He did good pretending he was like this sweet guy and stuff. Probably only became ghostface for his father.

Detective Bailey: 7/10. He could've fooled me. I didn't see him being Ghostface, Maybe one of his victims. Did more than Quinn hence why he is higher. Reasonable Motive? But like I said, repeat of Scream 2.

Plus, Richie isn't someone you should kill over, he really isn't all that.

obviously. no one is surprised by this. i appreciated the immense wife guy energy Ethan had, and i thought he was a well-written and generally interesting character who made good choices when he had comparatively few but. ya know. he's also a cop so :/ also no one can compare to my specialist little guy

The Mute/ Terrance Swaino

OK so this was the hardest to decide. if we're talking about fuckability? the mute, 100%. imo, this is jon's hottest look. i said what i said and i'm not taking it back. (those curls... the scars... the tattoo... the way he is so expressive without saying a single word.... 10/10 The Hottest). If we're talking about the writing of each character, i honestly liked them equal amounts? again, i loved seeing how someone can be a compelling main character of a film with only their facial expressions, and i think if you had taken out this character it would've been a different film entirely, which is so important and so cool. i also liked how we got bits and pieces of his presumed backstory, but not all of it -- unless i missed something, i would honestly have loved to know more about his background.

Swaino is interesting if i look at him as kind of a commentary of masculinity--the youngest kid with four older sisters, kind of stupid but obviously very committed to his different families. the balance of homophobic and effeminate that he struck was interesting, and i think there's some really interesting commentary there about homosocial vs. homoerotic and how straight men try to strike the balance but don't necessarily succeed. 0/10 for fuckability tho.

Griff/ Julian Kaye

no comparison, on any level. Griff was Not my type in terms of hotness, whereas i think Julian ranks 3rd for me for jon's hottest looks. also, Griff was just a dick, whereas Julian was an interesting written character. I understand why they cancelled the show, but i still wish we would've gotten another season tbh :/

finally found the time to watch generation loss and oh??? my gosh!????? i love ranboo’s stuff and i already had high expectations from hearing all the buzz about it but this totally blew me out of the park in a way i didn’t expect at all.

go watch it, even if you aren’t into ranboo it’s a great thing on its own. it starts a little slow but that’s on purpose!! just trust the process, as they say <3 (i’m using that in the wrong context i know but shhhhh)

anyway time to scream about it in an essay long post because i’m so incredibly normal about this series and not being a horror/arg nerd about it at all nope no way why would you think that ahaha.

[spoilers ahead! there’s only three episodes, all up on their vod channel and about an hour each! it’s so worth a watch!!]

okay, so, episode one was nothing like what i was expecting right off the bat.

i’ve seen the stuff on the actual genloss channel, and i figured it would all be sort of that vibe. imagine my surprise upon seeing ranboo sneeg and charlie being a little bit silly in a cabin in the woods (and also christian hell? for some reason?). i stuck through it, though, no matter how taken aback i was. it was so worth it in the end, but i’ll get to that later teehee <3

the cyoa aspect was cool! i wish i had been there to see it live, because i’m the biggest sucker for choice based stories and arg-style games.

not much more to say abt ep1, to be honest. just know that it’s definitely a completely different vibe than what you’ll probably expect (ranboo said this was on purpose!!). oh also i love squiggles he is everything to me. a little guy. a blorbo even. even if he uh, did turn out to be evil like i originally suspected.

ep 2! this one was almost equally silly in nature, but you can see the “cracks” begin to show a lot more in this one. (“why is cracks in quotes?” you may ask. well, iykyk, and if you don’t, watch episode three.)

the puzzler was great, i think it was hilarious that the mask was basically just how he looked anyway. the beginning was a good hook, i genuinely thought we were getting into the juicy stuff when ranboo was locked in the chair.

when he found charlie, i’m ashamed to admit that i didn’t expect charlie’s guts to be slime. that’s his thing. he’s a goopy gushy guy. i should’ve known. anyway. the part where the “illusion” starts to break and the slime turns to blood for a moment?? DELICIOUS. SO GOOD. MWAH.

NIKKI’S SUDDEN SWITCH IN HER INTRO ON THE CAROUSEL????? so good. everyone’s acting was incredible tbh especially in ep 3, i’m so happy. the silly death dialogue from ethan was great (until it wasn’t. iykyk, i’ll get to it), too. THE HAT BIT??? WHERE THEY REPROGRAMMED SNEEG??? AAA?????? so in love with this episode, it was the perfect transition to the hell that is ep 3.

okay so. ep 3. where do i start omg. i guess at the beginning, that makes sense.

i was really excited to finally have a name for hatch! honestly, even though my villain-senses were sounding off all sorts of alarms in my head, i was fooled for a short while as he was guiding ranboo. learning about the drones was interesting, too. lots of good lore built around the company and those guys! very cool ^^

WHEN RANBOO WENT AGAINST THE AUDIENCE AND CHOSE THE YELLOW CODE. IM RUNNING OUT OF WAYS TO EXPRESS MY EXCITEMENT AND AWE,,,,, UHHHH YIPPEEE???? I GUESS????? that was the thing that really set me off about hatch being maybe not so great. good stuff!!!!

ranboo finding the streamers pretty much locked in those mall restaurants!! AND CHARLIE DOING AN ACTUAL STREAM DURING IT!!!!!! gah, this series is so cool!!!!!! them constantly on the run from the drones and security (TERRIFYING monster, btw, i love when evil dystopian corporations have monsters as security <3) was so wild to watch. i don’t think i’ve been that anxious for the main characters of a series for quite some time.

them seeing the cabin set. ohhhhh my gosh. and then charlie dying (? presumably) at the hands of security before ranboo hits the button to stop everything. graaagh i ate that UP. again i’m running out of ways to express my love for this series lmaoo.

the “ending.” oh my goodness the fakeout “ending.” i was so thrilled, so happy for ranboo i let my guard down and was like “yes!!!! evil bad guys stopped woohoo!!! get this guy some rest and therapy!!!”

and then they bowed.

when i tell you i GASPED. like it was my fault for not checking the time on the video and having my guard down but i GASPED.

hatch letting the audience choose if ranboo lived or died. hearing ranboo scream and beg to be set free, and then beg to die…. i genuinely teared up. despite the rather grim choice to have them die, i think it was for the best. though i do wonder what would have happened if the votes stayed 50/50….. if anyone knows if ranboo has talked about that anywhere, do let me know! if not, i’ll shoot them an ask about it, because i’m sure it would’ve been interesting.

anyway, this series was so much cooler than i ever could’ve imagined. i was already invested in the stuff on the genloss channel, like i mentioned, but seeing the project for myself and getting to watch this incredible series was breathtaking. i’m a huge nerd for dystopias and horror, and ranboo somehow nailed combining them both with great comedy and a great story.

and i’ve heard it’s been nominated for an emmy? or something???? that’s literally so cool!!!! i wish ranboo the best of luck in future projects, genloss was a fantastic watch and i can’t recommend it enough <3

So yesterday I saw someone wishing that Ada would take someone under her wing at some point and essentially have a sidekick for a while. At first I was like, no Ada works alone.

But after having slept on it... I kinda want that now? Like, maybe a game where you play as Ada as she's training someone to be like her or something during an outbreak (you could also play as the new person but I really want Ada to be the star of her own game).

Obviously I'd want them to be portrayed as platonically as possible, but I want to see how Ada interacts with different people. Maybe even to the point where Leon is only brought up in dialogue or something. Or shows up at the very end.

Alternatively, I would love to see her have to work with some of the other RE characters to see how her dynamic is with them.

What do you think of this and who (if anyone) would you like to see her teamed up with (willingly or unwillingly)?

I'm partially to seeing her around either one of the Redfields (with this whole thing taking place after re6). Could have a lot of interesting drama and maybe an eventual understanding of each other.

I think a general idea people had was actual jake. especially since re6 seemed to be setting up a few stories afterwards but since when re6 was released it was.. errr not as good as they were hoping.. that's why everything was kinda pushed to the side when they did re7.

i would've loved ada to work with someone. and i do hate how the hunk character was added for re6. it's actually unplayable sometimes because only ada can open doors etc.

i would love ada to have her own game. especially since she's more popular than one of the "main four" of resident evil characters in japan, you'd think they'd put more effort into giving her content. and before people get pissy, we've only had remakes. no new ada content.

i'm still salty over like plague doctor ada in the concept art for re8 village and then she was REMOVED FOR CONFLICTING SCENARIOS. i would've loved an interact with her and ethan where she's like "you just remind me of someone," :OOOOO

i'm not the hugest fan of chris. and i don't really like ada with claire either tbh. it doesn't make sense unless they were forced to work together which is fine, and conflict is fine but i just wouldn't really be interested for either of them. just cause ada was there lol

considering media literacy is dead, and people still think that ada "did things" to chris' team. it would be interesting to see her working with chris for sure, i just think that there are probably better stories to tell. and also i think chris has had enough.

uff wow, uhmmm im amazed how the newest chapter always manage to be more intense then the previous one, damn ethan and eden are rly something else wow the make up sex was so good tho.. t was nice seeeing them in 100% in their egos, but like based on the last part... are yn and hee okay? will they talk at all about the whole fight ? cuz damn they both said some fucked stuff

love i'm so glad you love the story and the characters, it melts my heart. Right now, HHP still has quite a bit of chapter, and even when the main storyline ends, i have a few drabbles of like events that occur in between the major ones within the story that involves all the characters, but of course mainly focuses on Heeseung/Ethan and y/n and Eden.

And yes, Heeseung and Y/n are good, the details of their peacemaking will be in the next chapter. Basically, the whole scenario between Ethan and Eden took it out of them. Because obviously it's their bodies, and in a way, this chapter pretty much shows that Heeseung and Y/N were both so angry by the whole Tiff thing, that they took their anger out on eachother, but had their alter egos fight their battles for them essentially because as i try to outline in the story, they pretty much go full or near full Ethan/Eden mode when they're triggered. (not gonna lie this chapter made me think of pokemon, like "Eden! I choose you!")

Although this was the first time Heeseung went full Ethan. After everything that had transpired, the effects of the rather intense makeup sex took it out of not just Ethan/Eden, but Heeseung and Y/n too, thus the panting and recovery. But the holding hands part at the end shows that Heeseung realizes that he could have done better in handling the Tiff situation (oddly enough, it was Ethan that made him realize that) , and y/n understands that she was upset and took her distress out on him, yet Eden was her support system by letting her know that "its okay to bite back" because as she and pretty much everyone else knows by now, y/n has a very soft and gentle nature. In a way, the alter egos for both, Heeseung and y/n, are there to not only to express the darker, sinister, and rough sexual nature that Heeseung and y/n normally dont display, they're also protective and defensive over their softer sides. In a way, i kind of look at them as familiars to Heeseung/yn. But a good fluff discussion between the two is going to explain it all in the next chapter :)

This was the chapter that really made me love Eden. She's just...the true image of feminine strength. Like she loves and caters to her man, she stands by him, but will not, absolutely WILL NOT take shit from no one, even Ethan (when he is wrong). She is the true Queen.

ACTUAL CHARACTERS ALL THE WAY!!!! I don't really understand the blank slate thing because it's... Not me. I can connect with characters more when they're their own people and I can start to understand THEM and how THEY establish themselves in the narrative, if they're just blank it feels lazy and like the developers expect me to do the work they should've been doing...

Like, tbh even the 'blank slate' characters (like link, Mario, chrono...) All have personality cause THEY DO THINGS I DON'T DO..? And I'm glad in loz and Mario that they've leaned more into the characters because like. It's better...

Like PERFECT example of that is re7 vs re8, Ethan was supposed to be a kinda blank slate but IT SUCKED because he HAD A PERSONALITY but it was BAD because they tried to make it a non personality so every time he actually said or did something it was somehow ALWAYS exactly what NO ONE would say and took players out of it. They seemed to have learnt from that cause he was more spunky in 8 AND I LOVE IT. IF HE SAYS OR DOES THINGS THAT *I* WOULDN'T PERSONALLY DO I CAN STILL ENJOY IT WITH A GRAIN OF SALT CAUSE THAT'S ETHAN WINTERS AND NOT ME!!!!!!!

Any game that has a floating island LMAO. I really love how elegant and beautiful the kingdom of zeal is, it just blew my mind as a kid the first time I played.

I don't think a video game can ever be perfectly realistic cause there will ALWAYS be limitations, and by trying to fight against it by striving for hyper realism just suckkkkkkkkssssssssssss. That's not to say I hate realism and will never enjoy it, but I really think games that have a stylised art direction and really lean into it stand on their own a lot better

Hmmm. Honestly I'd want to recommend something like Mario Galaxy or Spyro 2 because they demonstrate the kind of action and platforming game styles that are pretty easy to understand as a new gamer, but also in fun ways! It's hard to give a rec if someone has no experience and no preference, cause I like to base recs on people's tastes so I'd hopefully be recommending a good one lol, but I think if someone had never played anything before and played galaxy or s2 it'd be a good base to figure out what things are appealing without the games being too overwhelming, yknow?

Billy Loomis: truly the OG and the man with the plan. I'm a lesbian and I also know I SHOULDN'T be thirsty for him but there's something about how deranged he is while still thinking things through so well that kinda does it for me!

Amber Freeman: oh my god she's an idiot but she's just like me for real!!! Probably my favorite sequel ghostface honestly. Plus she killed that man??? Who we all thought was unkillable????? Soooo...

Stu Macher: did you really think he'd be any lower? He was impulsive and kinda ruined the plan but he had the spirit.

Charlie Walker: fucking moron who got played hard but his kills were enjoyable and also if I'm being real estrogen would have saved her. Literally put down the knife and transition instead, Jill isn't going to love you bbg.

Sam Carpenter: Only one kill but you know damn well she wanted more and honestly the ability to have done it, IN THE MASK, with the hallucinations begging her to do more, and still stop once it wasn't self defense? Yeah okay queen you're an icon.

Danny Johnson: technically a spinoff character but I'll include him since he wore the mask and used the name!! I love Danny but also he's a creep and doesn't really feel emotionally like ghostface to me. But he's cool ig!! I'd watch a movie with him in it.

Jill Roberts: Look she's a bitch but her plan was GOOD. Honestly it's only plot armor that made her lose. She planned it well and I'm impressed with her even if she's sick and twisted.

Sydney Prescott: Barely counts tbqh but also she did do it so I'll give it to her just for being a badass, since everyone below this is at least kind of disappointing.

Jason Carvey: second best opening kill in the franchise, VERY slightly beating out the opening kill for Scream 2. I'm sad we never really got to know him and I do think he should have had a chance in that fight.

Quinn Bailey: All 3 of the main Scream 6 ghostface killers kinda suck but she sucks the least, mostly for that fight scene with Gale! She kicked ass there and I'll give her the point for it.

Ethan Bailey: He still sucks and is bland as a character but had two VERY cool sequences. (The ladder sequence which was the kill that made me saddest and most uncomfortable and the train sequence.) Bland though.

Debbie Loomis: didn't even really get her hands dirty except the once and then it was one of the best characters in the franchise so I do hate her a bit for that but also her plan was well orchestrated and her fall guy was well picked.

Jamal Elliot: Look I don't like the TV Series at all but honestly he had a good arc and a good motive and some okay kills given it was for TV. Would I have preferred him in movie? Definitely. Was he even close to the worst killer on this list? Nope!

Micky Altieri: I do not believe this guy exists tbqh. He is so deeply unbelievable as a character that he ruins the immersion for me. Some good kills but his motivation and characterization flip makes no sense.

Roman Bridger: Why would he be higher tbh. None of his plans worked even with as Machiavellian as he's supposed to look, his retcon is stupid and takes the weight away from previous movies, he's incompetent and also like why would you get involved in a film franchise about the crimes you caused to be committed? I feel like it's so sloppy and the person masterminding ghostface can't be sloppy. Also the kills in this movie suck.

Detective Bailey: Boring character, twist visible from miles away, I did not trust him even from the poster, and his motivation makes him despicable. Hate him.

Beth: Literally a caricature of a ghostface killer. She would be at the very bottom if I didn't hate Richie with the passion of a billion burning suns.

Richie Kirsch: literal actual pedophile. Like canonically. He groomed a 16 year old lesbian (maybe she's bi in the final cut?? I know in the original script she was explicitly a lesbian but maybe they changed it to make Richie look less bad idk) into doing this and I'm glad he's dead actually.

Reviewing horror movies I watched for the first time this halloween season

(I'll keep updating this post as I watch more. Also I'm going for the classics here, if you have recommendations feel free to tell me)

- The Blair Witch Project: 7/10

I guess watching it in cinema when it came out must have been so good and I appreciate it for the originality. It's great at portraying the fear of being lost and haunted and shit and i wasn't bored for a single minute. But idk i guess knowing everything that happens in it before even watching it made the plot kinda... meh lol

- Friday the 13th (1980): 5/10

Had I not known who the killer was maybe it would've been surprising and I would've liked it better. But it's just y'know a product of its time and it's alright i just didn't like it very much, it's clumsy and funny at best and at its worst it makes murder seem boring. I have yet to watch the sequels because from what I've heard they're better.

- Evil dead (1981): 7/10

Really good! Love the plot, but most of the main characters are so dumb i just got angry sometimes. The practical effects got a good laugh out of me sometimes but overall it's really impressive. I had watched Evil Dead: Rise before this one. That one I found better because it improves on the mistakes of the original, but you have to appreciate the source material because it's already pretty fucking good.

- Sinister: 8/10

When it comes to the haunting subgenre this one really nails it. I've deducted a few points because it's pretty cliche, most horror movies with little kids tend to do the same thing and this one rarely escapes those tropes. But the ending was impressive and I liked it a lot. Plus Ethan Hawke playing a dad. Do I need to say more?

- Scream (1996): 10/10

Was it really supposed to be a horror movie and not a gay romcom? Anyway........ It's a classic and it deserves that title. Fucking awesome. Perfect characters. The main girl is not dumb. Great ending. I've watched it like five times in a week. Am not doing okay.

- Scream 2 and 3: 6/10

Okay I think it's pretty safe to assume from now on the series is hardly even trying to be a horror series. As comedies, these are great. The meta elements always get me. But they just lack the spiciness of the first one. Tbh would only recommend if you got time to spare otherwise you wouldn't be missing much.

- I know what you did last summer: 9/10

Exactly my cup of tea. It's a shame Julie is SO. FUCKING. STUPID. But I loooooove me some who done it horror. It's sort of a distant sibling of Scream so if you liked that you'll probably like this one too.

- Poltergeist (1982): 9/10

Really great. It's a classic for a reason. It nails everything right on the head. Love the metaphor behind it too. It's just not exactly my type of thing so yeah...

- Scream 4: 7/10

So far I found this to be the best sequel. The "reboot" thing works well, but Emma Roberts' performance annoys me deeply idk. Everything else was very entertaining idk. Still kinda mid comparing to the first one

- Signs: 10/10

I think a close second to horror/murder mystery/slasher to me are these apocalypse/end of the world type of movie. And this one is probably the best one I've watched so far. I don't even get scared watching movies anymore but this one made my heart drop to the bottom of my stomach. Also the family drama makes me really emotional lol. This movie does everything right, loved it. Is it even horror? Idk, but I liked it a lot.

SLIGHT SPOILERS FOR SCREAM 6 NOW SO FOR ANYONE WHO HASNT SEEN IT YET KEEP SCROLLING:

I really liked the beginning and end scenes the most. At first I was like “Damn. That’s new” when I thought they just straight up revealed the new killer but it was even better tbh. That whole “Who gives a fuck about movies?!” line too was just soooo good. Perfectly delivered (as usual).

And I like Sam’s character even more now. I thought she was cool in Scream 5 and the whole “daughter of a serial killer” concept is interesting but what makes it better is her clearly being a bit.....“unhinged” as well, so to speak (honestly got chills when she was in the costume and they played the ghostface theme when she appeared behind Bailey). I also liked that this movie paralleled Scream 2 a bit (Scream 1 & 2 are my favorites but this one is close).

My only complaints were 1.) ethan being a killer. I felt it was too obvious....plus I like cute, dorky characters so I felt a little betrayed ngl. 2.) Ghostface definitely should’ve had the shotgun more. Cause let’s be real, ghostface coming at you with a knife isn’t actually THAT terrifying esp considering how is always easily beat up (Gale literally used a book to hit him at one point 😭). Ghostface with a shotgun though??? Pretty terrifying tbh. And finally 3.) I was salty that the only one from the “friend group” that died was (of course) the asian girl.....as a fellow asian girl it just made me a bit salty lmaoooo (the death scene itself though was very well done and brutal too).

And imo ghostface may not really be the “scariest” horror movie villain/killer/slasher, but to me he is definitely one of the most ICONIC.
