uhhh at the risk of sounding incredibly sam-centric (which i admittedly am) i honestly don't think about him too much. i think in some ways he also falls victim to the dean-phenomenon where the fandom that primarily engages with him has made me less willing to interact with him because i just. don't really enjoy their takes.

though, as i've said before, i do find memory-alteration storylines to be particularly interesting/close to genuine horror, so i do enjoy engaging with meta/fics about cas' experience with that, even if i don't have too many original thoughts about it. i do have particular seasons of cas that are my favorites, probably be s6 & s9-10 at the top of that list, because there is just soo much sam & cas potential and i really do love their duo so much <3 as much as people talk about cas learning about humanity from dean, i think he learned a lot from sam as well (thinking about their convo in 09x11) and i love the evolution of their relationship.

okay so. overall!! and i’d love to know your thoughts on this logan….. i firmly believe that satoru is the type to love one single person for the rest of his life. he never moves on from them. once someone has earned his love and nestled their way into his heart they’re there to stay. (and i’d argue that it’s kinda supported by canon yk… satoru hanging on to his memories of youth/suguru no matter how much time passes :’3)… so!! yeah!!! i definitely think he’d stay in love with his bestie forever, even if he knew fully well his feelings wouldn’t be returned. that’s just my take though!!!

i thinkkkk the tricky part is just. how satoru feels about it. a part of me wants to say that he handles it decently, that he’s happy just to be around you… but i think it’s also natural for him to feel a little empty about it all. bc he truly is!! a loverboy!!! deep down he yearns so badly for intimacy :(((( satoru is just such a pro at isolating himself and i think it gets worse in this kind of scenario. he loves you but does keep a certain distance i think…. to make it easier for himself and also so he doesn’t mess anything up for you. but he can never keep himself away for too long……

ok so we’re circling back to sugu now. i think satoru would handle the situation a lot better if suguru and you were together. my stsg-infested brain just can’t imagine an au where he isn’t at least a little bit in love with suguru…. and i think seeing two people he loves and trusts with all his heart be together doesn’t bother him nearly as much as it would have if you were with a random third party. there’s this One quote i like from . um….. a voice actor. of a character. in… ohshc 👉👈 AND I JUST THINK IT FITS IN THIS SCENARIO OK…….. :’3

I think Kyoya is very much in love with Tamaki and with Haruhi. He’s very much in love with the both of them. And I think it matures to a point where he would much prefer to see the both of them together than him with either one. Because they make more sense together than he makes with anybody else.

i think that’s sort of how he’d feel!!! there’s a kind of maturity there that satoru has imo. and since he’s so close to both of you, he doesn’t have to worry about being pushed out of your life (which might be his biggest worry in a scenario where you’re together with a random third party)…… so. yeah!!! would it be angsty? yes ofc. but i rlly do see satoru as a mature character, and also often selfless!!! he just respects you and your choices so much :(((

……….. what i will say. is that if you happened to get together with someone who didn’t treat you well. he would Shut That Shit Down instantly <3333 we love angry protective satoru !!!!!!!!

although it wasn't necessarily a bad thing for a date to be early, barton thought, in this scenario... it likely would've been better if regulus had shown up at his home at the agreed upon time. he was sweaty and still sort of out of breath from a run whenever he had come face-to-face with reg after all. though he wasn't mad, of course; barton was just a bit embarrassed when he'd found that his daughter had already let the other into the house once he entered it. this was because the doctor wanted regulus to only see him when he was at his best, all dressed up and smelling nice as well; but barton was probably the furthest thing from being that at that moment in his opinion.

he just remembered almost running into the bathroom after he told reg he just needed a little time to wash up, and that then he'd be out, as well as ready to go by 5:00. this would give him a little extra time to do what needed to be done: and by that, i mean barton was willing to scrub his skin raw if that's what it took just to make sure no remnants of his exercise clung to his person anymore. a sigh left barton's lips then as the scent of rain water — albeit an artificial one, originating from his body wash — permeated the air. tonight had to be perfect or barton might just throw away his chances of getting even closer to reg than he already had.

he may have become a little spaced out after starting to hum along to a tune. barton was going to get his shampoo when he felt something brush across the small of his back. he gasped a little in shock and turned around right at that moment. now, until barton realized it was regulus, he was ready to strike at whatever the thing in question was that touched him. but upon seeing it was reg, his stress had eased just a little bit. a breathy laugh had escaped from his lips, and out of sheer cheekiness, he decided to give the other person a gentle hit on the shoulder even though reg wasn't a danger to him. ❝ oh, my god. you know... whatever happened to saying 'hello,' hmm? you almost gave me a heart attack there! ❞

barton appeared to need some time to comprehend that regulus's presence there suggested that the other might have wanted him, in some capacity. a fake, thoughtful murmur escaped his lips and as he stood up, curiosity raised an eyebrow. barton's eyes traveled from reg's feet up his face as he placed a palm on his naked chest. ❝ but ahh, i suppose that can be excused for now. i am all for fooling around a bit with a handsome man like you. we've got to keep things quiet, though, alright? and i can think of one or two ways we can do that. ❞

The clock had just struck midnight. The day now the 28th of June. Which, to Denki, is an incredibly important day... as its his best pal Sero's birthday! With eyes incredibly wide and a brain that goes at millions of miles per hour, Denki was sat straight up in his bed. Energy drink in one hand (which he probably shouldn't be drinking) and his slightly cracked phone in his other.

Grabbing his shirt he messily dressed himself, chucked the empty monster can into the bin and slammed open his door- without thinking, no thoughts about his classmates who were trying to sleep. Surely some of them would be up anyway- so who cares! Plus, it's Sero's birthday right now and that's what matters.

Just as he was about to get to the end of the corridor he realised he forgot the key part of his surprise for Sero. He quickly dashed back to his room, grabbed the surprise and ran the fastest he has ever ran his entire life. Plenty of gasps for breath and multiple pants for air as his figure leaned against Sero's door.

"Sero! My dude, open the door- right now!" Rapid knocks, an unusual amount of knocks (however, for Denki it could be considered a normal amount) made the door shake as Denki shouted for his friend to open the door. Whether he was asleep or not, Denki didn't care- its his birthday! He should be awake and celebrating. Not sleeping. "I got you a present! You gotta open it- you're gonna love it!"

Readied up, Denki held the party popped in his hand with the little string in his other. Mentally preparing himself for when the birthday boy opens the door. Yet.. perhaps it should be Sero preparing himself. With Denki stood behind his door- shaking from the excitement of popping the party device in his hands.

Catching the Record of Lodoss War OVAs on some channel's "animidnight" block was a formative experience for young me, and its design choices were scarred into my mind as the fundamental fantasy aesthetic. Which, uh, didn't exactly make me an odd one out anywhere because it hews closely to the ISO fantasy mold (and indeed helped make the mold).

"Record of Lodoss War" (I'm using quotes to indicate the literal phrase) is one of those odd-ball translation choices that ended up being iconic, just ever so slightly nonsensical, it stuck in the minds of kids like me that watched it young. A transliteration of the Japanese is Lodoss-tou Senki. -tou just means island; "senki" could credibly be translated as (and this may shock you) 'war record'. It's a specific term in Japanese that refers to the record an officer or attached scribe kept of the battles a military force took part in ("battle chronicle" is also a good translationand by metonymy is used for "military history"). As you might imagine, it's still popular in manga and novel names.

It started out as, not quite a novel, but a "RePlay", a record of the events of a table top RPG campaign, published in a magazine (Comptiq focused on computer games, but apparently content was content, and Lodoss got hugely popular). The mid-eighties predecessor to Critical Role, basically. It did really well, which makes sense, given that the dungeon master and the players were all published writers (the DM would publish what's called the first domestic Japanese high fantasy novels, Rune Soldier, in the same setting). It started out in D&D, but would also be played in Tunnels and Trolls and RuneQuest. In 1989, they ended up publishing their own set of rules, called Record of Lodoss War Companion, and later, Swordworld RPG (2.5edition came out in 2018!).

A series that was inspired and distilled a lot of the concepts that were and would remain popular in high fantasy settings in both Japan and America and then probably inspired another generation of iterations when the anime came back to America.

Some day maybe I'll watch the anime again, it finally got an English Blu-Ray remaster in 2017. I've read the manga and some of the novelizations in the mean time and, to be honest, they were pretty middle of the road, nostalgia notwithstanding.

A 2D exploration platformer with RPG elements (levels, stats, different bows and weapons to equip).

Briefly: a beautiful game. No flaws, but nothing that stands out either.

This game is beautiful. If you like the pixel aesthetic at all, I think you'll also love it. Critical hit in my visual sensibilities. It looks like Symphony of the Night looks in my nostalgia painted memories. The only note: it doesn't exactly take any risks, design wise, but if it did, that wouldn't be very true to the source material would it?

The music works.

Combat is pretty fun, if a bit easy. There are seven elements, you get wind and fire options for your basic attacks, and spells and special bows for the rest. Swapping elements changes your resistances too. The different types of weapons (long sword, knife, two-handed, spear, and throwing) offer some variety, as do the attractive designs. That said, for a melee based game like this, I prefer slightly more technical and challenging combat. Hollow Knight's a good example of my sweet spot, and Blasphemous is also well in my strike zone.

Movement is basically okay. You have to feel like a badass when you leave an after image trailing behind you. The wind element comes with the ability to hover (move slowly in mid air at up to your maximum jump height above ground or water), and they do a couple fun things with that. Other than that, it's all pretty straight-forward, which is a little disappointing.

They do some fun occasional fun puzzles with the archery.

Individual room design was fun sometimes, but the overall map design was lackluster. Yet another victim of the trend where leadership says, "Adding metroidvania tag increases sales, so do it," and design can only respond, "If we take a linear game, fold the map up in a spiral, and occasionally make you back track, that makes a fun exploration experience right?" It's been done worse but it's still not great.

This sort of game tends not to have a lot of story, but what there was was pretty good. One of those cases where the writers have a "twist" in mind, but did not intend for the player to be confused about it at all, just the character. The dramatic irony still makes the pay off satisfying.

It took me about 12 hours to 100%. It's on PC for 20$, which might be worth it. The Switch and PS4 versions are full price games, which is faintly baffling for a game so short, no matter how pretty and nostalgic.

And that's why I've shared so many words with my dash over what's ultimately a decent game; because of the anchor its series dropped in my heart in childhood.
