I think the world can be too scary and chaotic sometimes and I like to make art and write things that make it a bit brighter! I don’t handle heavy angst well personally, so I prefer to give my favorite characters happy lives, with some hiccups once in a while of course! A thought for later: If you could dual class in gw2, what would you dual-class? For either RP, lore, shenangians or just ot make the most broken build ever? Maybe taking on the utilities of the second class? It's a nightmare in game design that I don't want to iron out now but shhhhh lets just assume you can dual-class specializations too okay

I would dual class Alex as an Weaver- Warrior, he's proficient in martial forms too.. Perzen would be an Tempest-Chrono mix, just for the additional support.

Faren alt would be a Virtuoso-Thief mix... Just because :D

Ford the doctor would be a Firebrand-Tempest mix probably? Both for his own lore and the extra shouts from Tempest would be great in-game too, I wager.

Even in present times, he would make some pumpkin soup or request it from Zane whenever he's feeling nostalgic or just needs some comfort food.

since it's out i can finally post my piece for @hws-anthology as well as the timelapse for it. as is arguably all my hetalia work, it's a love letter to my friend @pyrrhocorax 's fic Sendlingur og Sandlóa - i'll ramble a bit about how much it means to me, as well as the symbolism i wormed into this piece below the read more :)

i originally had two pages planned for this piece, potentially more - the fic is a good 74k words long and certainly not light on scenes i could and wanted to pull from, but various things led into other various things and one page was all i could manage, so i tried to cram in what i could, so here's that (in a rough, somewhat arbitrary order of focal points)

the opening chapter! the car is a framing device for the piece as much as it is for the journey the characters will take following that first chapter, so i wanted to use the car window/shapes as a literal framing device in my drawing

joi, shaky at best in his sense of self, sees no reflection in the window, instead there's a silhouetted raven to signify the search he must go on to find it

while not perfectly transcribed by virtue of wonky (plus an extra) line(s), the notes coming from joi's headphones are the opening to the song sendlingur og sandlóa, the fic's namesake, which a loved one kindly transposed by ear for me for the purpose of this piece

in a similar vein, the stickers on joi's suitcase are of a purple sandpiper and a ringed plover, the birds after which the song is named - here they are as transparents and in their original colours

i wanted to create a sliiight impression that joi is the one knocking over the chessboard, representing his repeated rejections of it (both physically, and the things it represents)

the chess pieces were also chosen specifically! originally i was going to use a black rook and a white pawn to match chapter 41, but for the sake of having alternating colours and the rest of my metaphors working (iirc) i swapped those colours around. that, and i wanted to match chapter 13's white king and black pawn - the black pawn stuck, the white king was colour swapped for colour cohesion reasons like the other's. (visual contrast was important to me, but the white queen blending slightly into the sky was okay for symbolism reasons) (there was also black king, white rook from chapter 3, so it all worked out anyway - there's a lot of chess in this story and i only had space for so many pieces and colours, basically)

speaking of which, the black pawn is for joi (chapter 13), the white queen is for halle (someone who, from joi's perspective, can go anywhere, vs joi's pawn, someone to be used -> see chapter 35 and perspective).

the king piece is falling (but hasn't quite fallen) between halle and henrik (chapter 3, 7, 13, though i most clearly thought of 19)

the person in the top right corner is eduard! i desperately wanted to include him because i think he's deserved it, and i considered a lot of ways of working him in, but i think an ambiguous silhouette that isn't Quite part of the main picture works better narratively

note also that he's separated from the other's through a red curtain, to represent the iron curtain (naturally) i wanted it to match ber + tino's part in some way, to sorta emphasise their similar foundations despite being split apart across places

the flowers at eduard's window are placed and chosen purposefully as well! orange/red zinnia's outside (for familial ties, steadfastness, friendship and remembrance) for what eduard puts out in to the world, then lily-of-the-valley for tino and cornflower for him inside to show what he wants to hold close :)

halle and joi are the only characters with their eyes open - halle looks towards the viewer/author/reader/joi, while joi looks away all together. if you've read the fic (which i assume you have because i can't imagine this is interested to read otherwise) you probably don't need me to explain why that reflects their roles in the story

similarly, every character apart from the brothers is turned towards another in some way (eduard does not count when his flowers do, and his role in the story is based around that disconnect partially anyway) tino towards ber and eduard (and hana, i guess), ber towards tino, henrik to halle, halle to henrik (though he looks away - his values are elsewhere even when they are together). joi, at best, looks at his own reflection in the window

the colour scheme, while arbitrarily picked from gradient maps based on what i felt "fit" has been approved by the author as being very "SoS core"

all that being said, i can and will now talk about my personal relationship with SoS, so unless that interests you i imagine the post is done now! thank you for reading :)

the first comment i posted on SoS is dated 2nd November 2016 - logging into my old account i can see i bookmarked it on the 31st August that same year, so i can safely assume i first read or at least found it then. a month after my first comment, i posted another on a different account, pouring a few bits of my heart out and the author responded! we went back and forth a bit and eventually talked (i think) via tumblr for a little, but the majority of our conversations were via skype for whatever reason (we didn't call, just texted). it was a lot of me looking for writing advice, insight to their work/process/skill, talking about The Brothers and talking about psychology/the brain on a general and personal level. i think if i read our conversations back now i'd cringe, given that i was an awkward, fumbling 16 year old, but i dont think anything else wouldve been fitting given the subject matter. eventually our conversations fizzled out and we stopped talking for years, but i'd go back to SoS routinely and cry.

in may of 2021, i posted another comment during what in hindsight was definitely another relatively minor mental health episode - i think it was half trying to emphasise how important the work was to me on the off chance pyrr saw it, and half a bid for connection since i had no idea if they even remembered us talking. i assumed nothing would come of it, and for about a year that was true - until pyrr responded after all in february of 2022 - i'm happy to say we've been talking consistently on discord since then. i feel a little weird speaking too intimately about our friendship as it is now since it's not just my story to tell (though pyrr, if you're reading this) (i'm sure you are at some point) (you're welcome to talk about it however, i just didn't want to without consulting you) but i can say with some certainty that it's at least a little bit my fault that we have a sequel now - cementing my place as official number #1 fan and validating the me from almost 8 years ago in a way i don't think either of us processes well.

it's here that i feel the need to talk about my other dear friend, @hws-lceland , who i'm grateful to have met through the zine's discord server. i'm sure they're reading this too, and a lot of what our relationship means to me is stuff that's probably a bit too vulnerable for either of us to speak publicly, but i *can* say that i love them very much, and i'm really grateful to have someone else to understand, and that he read SoS for me. i thought he needed it, and i hope i was right

sendlingur is...endlessly important to me. i'm aiming to not write an essay here (a goal i think i've already sorta shot in the foot) but i think it's important for me to talk about some of this a little loudly, all the same. my writing has changed because of the series - remeeting with pyrr and showing them some of my more recent work was interesting since it was apparent even to them the influences i'd taken (to be fair, in one section i explicitly asked and did borrow a format of theirs, but this goes beyond that). when i was 16 i asked my mum to read the fic in a desperate bid to be understood. i've cried reading the fic many, many times. i've signed off letters and poems with my switched around version of i'm sorry / thank you / i love you (i swap the first two around) many, many, many times, including in a close friend's wedding gift. SoS has very sincerely changed my definition of love. the name halle is a part of my abstract mindscape. id already considered changing my name to johannes anyway and this fic certainly didnt help. i've gained a friendship of 7 and a half years through it. i've gained another newer one now, too. i am not well. i wasn't well then, reading it, and it hasn't fixed me (i am worse, now, arguably), but it healed something, or at least made me feel understood. i could go on, and maybe sometime i will (there were so many things i wanted to include in my piece and pay homage to!), but for now i will thank anyone who took the time to read all this (again), and say that i look forward to experiencing the sequel

Writing update 17/01/2025

HI EVERYONE!

It's been a while but I just wanted to give you guys all a little update on what I've been up to in the past few months.

Chapter 3 is now at around 4k words without a code and honestly I have no clue what I'm going to call the chapter yet. I know that it'll come to me eventually but I just really want to give it a name.

I'll be releasing the teaser for Chapter 3 soon on my patreon and then it will be up on here about a week later so make sure to look out for it!

I made the decision to split cut down Chapter 3 to half of it's original length simply because of how long it was going to be and make what would have been the latter half of it Chapter 4. However, if the word count for Chapter 3 doesn't reach 10k words minimum I will most likely move a few things around to make sure it is still a full length chapter.

I'm aiming to get Chapter 3 out before April because I have exams coming up from Late April-June so I will be taking a break so I can study and make sure I get good results. After that I will begin work on Chapter 4. To be fair I might do a little bit of writing over the exam period but I won't be doing it officially so I will not be doing updates over that period of time but I will make sure to answer any asks I get when I have the time!

I will also hopefully have enough money to commission character portraits of both Tino and Tina during my break so if I find an artist I will get them done.

Enough of me rambling on anyway. See you in the future!

it was a beautifully arranged library meeting -- meticulously placed decorations with various literary characters; adding into atmosphere of immersion. dainty fingers ghosted above titles, each one more fascinating than the last -- unsure where to start, or even begin. 'ah, may I help you? -- smooth, soft tone inquired; as gently slender fingers graspled with a particularly intriguing cover, handing it to the the girl. 'oh my god, this seems perfect -- I had no idea this even existed, really- thank you!' -- she smiled; flipping across pages carefully, nodding. 'you're welcome' -- seemingly mysterious figure smoothly faded back to the crowd, leaving faint note of intrigue -- amaranthine eyes studying every single little movement further out; helping others with their concerns.

yet something about . . . you. certain kindness; peculiar gratitude -- made lukas very interested.

it was another day -- seemingly so. bland in the never-ending existence of routines, diplomacies and documents. with a smooth, calculated step -- tino approached one of his favourite coffee shops in stockholm -- cozy, quiet place for work. glass doors opened -- him merely stepping inside, when a particular individual caught his attention. her. soft, tiny form -- hunched over scattered notes, trying utterly best to decipher complicated material. it must have been challenging -- judging by how intense expression blossomed. lukas definitely mentioned someone over usual rambles on the newspaper-written politics. tino was a known fan of his coffees -- but in much sweeter way -- just like him -- latte with whipped cream and if he was feeling extra fancy that day – with various syrups, and other variety of assortiments.

in the silliest way -- sticker-decorated laptop made him raise his eyebrow -- how entire rainbow of certain hobbies were represented.

this little declaration sparked curious interest in that particular someone; yet his eyes kept darting away -- obvious shyness taking better of him; considering how focused girl looked. with a smooth click -- tino settled down porcelain cup with cherry drink, clearing his throat -- carefully approaching. he really, really put uttermost effort to be seen as an gentleman -- embarassment betraying the best of odds, in a way.

girl gazed up -- flushing in an instant due to entire absurdness of the situation. a young guy, with softest, sincere expression actually paying attention? of course -- she deemed to possess such strange, out-of-the-box personality (or any other questionable qualities) -- this interaction... feeling unreal.

‘hello, um...-- well... this character looks really cool-– if i may ask, where did you find stickers for your laptop?’

how did you get woven into nordics . . .?

in all honesty -- after a kind, pleasant conversation in the coffee shop -- tino happily invited luna into their inner circle -- to spend a peaceful evening amongst... his friends. 'oh, yeah, of course! this sounds lovely -- next tuesday, 6 pm -- right?' 'ah, niin // yes, of course // -- you may have my phone number -- call us anytime!' 'i will! have a lovely day!'

luna happily waved away, leaving coffee shop; soft smile blossoming upon champagne lips. ;; 'so... you have 4 roomates? what- how does it work... exactly?' 'luna, well, it is complicated, you see--' -- before tino could flaunt a sheepish smile, looking for the explanation, leading girl through the corridor, his hand ghosting above the waist as a mere precaution... door flied upon with unflauntible wham -- way-too-happy mathias budging in the doorframe. 'look, what the have here! our cutie patootie -- lukas has been talking about you non-stop! c'mere!' -- luna giggled, picked up ever-so-easy into way-too-loving bear hug, carried away. 'o-oh, stop! ahahah! bollocks -- hahaha!' -- soft giggles echoed across apartment; as tino smoothly closed the door -- kicking shoes a bit too hastily -- coat left over on the rack. 'mathias! helvetti! // hell // you don't treat our friend like that! fuck-' bernwald merely raised his eyebrow at the noise -- returning to fill out related government papers; clicking study shut. ruckus was not entertaining. this is going to be a long evening. ;; bitter coffee notes blossomed, filling up the air with false sense of decency -- luna comfortably settled down close to the mathias. 'wait... it is actually really nice to have... relationship like that, or something along those lines. well, I am not lucky as you all' -- unspoken sadness swirled between irises; as floor would provide any sense of comfort. 'hey... what do you mean? you can talk to me, y'know' -- he scooted closer; wrapping hand around in such unspoken gentleness, as if provide comfort. 'I live alone, uh... I may only dream of something like . . . that' -- she gestured; bitersweet laugh following. 'This is pathetic, why am I even--' -- unwanted tears simmered; expression knitting over inner turmoil. 'And what if I told, darlin'... that maybe you could stay? I like you, Tino also does -- and we have a spare room to follow -- what about that?' -- honey-sweet words with even sweeter embrace; tears wracking entire body in the chaos of the feelings. 'Shh... it's okay, I'm here, you're safe...'

He even freakin adopted Lloyd with Zyro and treats Kai as his rebellious baby brother

The only one he wasn't as close with is Nya and that's only because of his thalassophobia (fear of large bodies of water) that was caused by the time he was stranded in the middle of the ocean in a small boat and nearly drowned

And this man is technically a cyborg due to the chip in his brain that allowed him to record and create maps of wherever he is and summon holographic screens around him

(Gender Neutral) Headcanons ~ A/N ty!! omg first nordics request! Be warned. I do not know these guys that in depth. So. theres that/. Also noirmally i wouldnt write minors but considering iceland is hundreds of years old and only physically 17 im making an exception

Berwald is a man of few words, so he’d adore a S/O that can ramble on for hours and hours. It’s awkward when it’s quiet… and he’s not going to be the one breaking the silence.

Anyone who doesn’t find him intimidating would make him so happy! Even when he’s being arguably very scary… it’d break his heart to know his S/O was afraid of him.

If you value family as much as he does (which is a LOT,) he’d love that! He spends a lot of time with his family and would like to start one with you, so if you didn’t like family, that’d be a problem.

Weirdly enough, he prefers people that are more plain and average. At least on the outside. He’s quite bland himself (or at least, that’s how he sees himself) so he doesn’t want to have to match your energy.

Someone who’ll indulge him in his fixations. Who won’t ask too many questions when he goes on a week-long chair-making binge, barely coming out of his woodshop.

Tino is a surprisingly particular man when it comes to dedicating himself to a romantic partner. He’d want someone chill, not too talkative, but not too awkward. Someone whose soft and cuddly, but not afraid to stand up for themself.

He often misspeaks, so if his S/O was not forgiving and understanding of those kinds of things, that would make things difficult.

Like Sweden, family is very important to him! He visits with his own a lot, so he would love to do the same with his S/Os! If they have a difficult relationship with their family, he’ll understand, but it’ll still be hard for him to keep it out of his mind.

Someone who is positive! Constant sarcastic comments and debilitating remarks towards others just make him feel sad… 

He doesn’t like doing very exciting things often, so a partner who is very comfortable with nothing more than domesticity would be perfect! What else would you need besides a nice home and a cute garden to tend to with him?

Lukas… is not a skilled communicator. Whether he likes you or not is often unclear, and it’s difficult for him to think through what he’s going to say. So, all he needs is something that can put up with his anti-social behaviour, basically.

He often is at a loss for how to properly express his true feelings, so his S/O has to be comfortable with him randomly coming up to them and smothering them with physical affection. 

Someone who isn’t uncomfortable speaking up for the both of them. He’d adore an extroverted partner!

He prefers people that don’t require him to adjust himself too much… he has no aversion to changing for you, but he’d prefer a partner who isn’t… abject to his normal behaviour. He’s a thousand years old, you know? It’s hard to teach an old dog new tricks…

Anyone who enjoys impulsive decisions. Be prepared to be unprepared when he wakes you up at 2 am to get pancakes and drive across the country to see his family. But don’t worry, his impulsive decisions are always the more fun ones.

Emil would love someone who's a lot like him! A little immature, a little hot-headed, sarcastic, and absolutely awkward. He’s a very specific type of person, and he’d like a partner to be that type as well.

Someone whose sensitive and emotional would work well with him too. He finds it cute, plus he can relate. You’re just a little better at actually expressing his emotions, rather than bottling them all up.

Speaking of which, he’d prefer someone who isn’t too afraid to speak their mind. Someone who refuses to talk things through, preferring to just be passive-aggressive and non-confrontational, would just stress him out.

Anyone whose unique! He finds himself quite plain, so he would love getting into your interests. You’re both young, why not do fun impulsive things? He wouldn’t have the courage to do it without you anyway…

Oh boy. Mathias is not particular in the slightest way when it comes to partners. He would date anything or anything that can consent. Basically, if they haven’t killed anyone and you aren’t a complete asshole, he’ll love them.

Despite that, he still has a few preferences. He’d find someone who’s awkward and needy just absolutely adorable. Like he is absolutely ecstatic to be a “they asked for no pickles” boyfriend.

But getting along with someone super sensitive would also… not be easy. He can accidentally be a bit brash in his humour, so he’d love someone who just laughs along instead of taking it personally. If they’re bothered by his loud, sometimes crude, behaviour, it’d just break his heart!

He’d prefer a partner that trusts his judgment… more than they probably should. He can get stubborn, so if they aren’t also too stuck in their ways, that’d be for the best. 

Most importantly, he’d prefer a S/O that loves his family just as much as he does! They’re gonna have to spend a lot of time around them, after all.

It's a home away from home instance! An actual home! That we can decorate and our other characters can be inside (?? I don't remember I was busy-)

Like.. what if the commander/wayfinder just doesn't feel like their hometown/home instance is their home anymore? Things have changed so much, people know where they're from... Living out in the wilds is probably where they might be able to find peace. A place only their close friends would know.

(Unless this was all in the trailer and it went -zip- over my head because I watched it half asleep)

the reason i'm rambling today is that a recent streak of bad luck lead me to be extremely reclusive both irl and online, and although i try tricking myself into thinking i find my situation comforting and familiar, i know it's actually ruining my mental health lmao... it's not easy but i wanna try being more socially involved, reaching out to people, letting them know i like what they do n stuff

Uhhhmm- First and foremost, I do wanna clarify that I respect anyone's differences in ships! Even if I don't ship it, I do think that everyone deserves to be respected for their ships [unless is like.. fucking weird.... proshippers...]

THAT BEING SAID! I don't see them working at all? I see Vox as a jealous man. He sees Angel as an obstacle-- an attention stealer... yknow? I'm a StaticMoth shipper myself and I like to think that Vox has this odd- complex. I think because of his time period and him possibly never considering himself to be gay while he was alive; finding a man he could possibly have a romantic/sexual relationship with and that man returning his advances is puzzling to him. I'd think that he'd get easily jealous over the idea that there's someone else who has caught Tino's eyes. [IM RAMBLING SORRY]

That being said; I personally don't see them having any chemistry- and I drew a silly little doodle! So!!
