If you'd be willing to, id love to see you do that "What you keep in mind when writing this character" meme for Charlie, Vaggie, Alastor and Adam.

Pick a character I’ve written and I will explain the top ~three to five ideas/concepts/etc I keep in mind while writing that character that I believe are essential to accurately depicting them.

Charlie simply Does Not understand the core of the problems in Hell. This isn't a slight- it's just part of her raising. She doesn't understand how addiction starts- she's only ever seen addicts. She doesn't understand what gets people into Hell- she's only ever seen people once they're there. She's trying, obviously, but she fails miserably often- I like to remind people about the play she did with Angel Dust and Sir Pentious. She thinks the problem with drugs is that they're sold to kids- which is fucked up, obviously, but I doubt Angel was peddling drugs to schoolyard kids in his lifetime- and not that drugs themselves destroy lives. She doesn't comprehend the morals that are pushed in religion but is trying desperately to emulate them to get her people into Heaven.

I personally view Charlie as someone who's faking it with her good girl act a little bit. She's overhyping her kind and sweet nature because she's trying to present herself as a Role Model to the guests in the hotel. She's uber polite to the point of being a doormat because she wants people to look up to her and follow her lead. She forgives Pentious and tries to speedrun getting everyone to trust him. She KNOWS Al is sus but constantly tries to validate his feelings while turning him down. We see hints of her more natural state peek out when she's alone or angry- yelling at Valentino, being rude to Alastor in her room, telling Susan to fuck off, etc. She strikes me as a grindset millennial who thinks she needs to be Uber Peppy and Sweet around kids.

Charlie's been alive for over two hundred years. She's been around the damn block! So you can REALLY play around with what she's done, tried, etc. I personally hc that Charlie had a pretty solid partier phase and has tried every drug at least once. She doesn't admit to it now bc she's embarrassed about it, but it could actually help her connect more with her guests if she did. Rip.

Her People come first. Constantly. People tend to conflate Charlie's use of the hotel as an attempt to redeem Hell, but she's literally just trying to get some of her people into Heaven to save them from slaughter. She doesn't ACTUALLY give a hoot about Heaven's ideals, just tries to follow them to SAVE PEOPLE.

This is a hc so it doesn't count but I have this silly hc that all Exorcists were pre-built with the scripture in them so she can rattle off bible verses on the fly.

Vaggie has a LOT of military trauma, and she's not dealing with it AT ALL. Vaggie's not changed much since falling from Heaven- she still believes wholeheartedly in what she's doing, and will always put herself last to make that goal work. Her goal has just shifted from extermination to Charlie.

FULL OF LONELINESS, dear god. Vaggie has no friends and that's not an accident. She doesn't pay much attention to anyone beyond Charlie. She's so stymied by self-hatred that she just. Doesn't have the ability to make that first step and talk to other people. Her entire life revolves around Charlie's wishes and scrabbling desperately for her own redemption from the sins she's committed for Heaven. I'm really hoping we start unpacking some of that now that she's been exposed.

People try to make Vaggie this kind, sweet, nanny-type character. She's more like a drill sergeant. She's that meme of shouting mental health at people. She doesn't know how to connect to people in Hell and is therefore forced to just. Yell at them until they listen to her. It's her go-to copium.

She's awkward and clumsy when trying to talk to ANYONE who isn't Charlie. Take Carmilla. She's extremely respectful of her at first. Then she yells. Then she haggles.

EGO EGO EGO good lord the fucking ego on this man. I need to stress this because it plays in literally every aspect of Alastor's character: he believes he's more powerful than literally anyone else. He assumes he can just beat Adam (THE FIRST FUCKING MAN EVER!!!) after a seven-year absence where he's had little to no crime activity to keep him up to snuff. He starts a pissing party with Vox on live feed bc what the fuck is Vox gonna do to him, send a camera to spy? He takes care of Mimzy because he likes being the Big Strong Powerful Demon who goes through lines of enemies like butter. He shakes Lucifer's staff with one hand and then rubs said hand on his jacket out of pure disgust bc being leader of Hell is NOTHING to him.

Alastor does NOT like touch. People tend to disregard that (Cough AndHimBeingAroAce Cough) to make him more like Stolas. They want this antlered fucker to be touchy-feely to make him more intimidating on paper. He Does Not Touch. Alastor allows two (2) people to touch him; Rosie and Charlie. I'm 95% sure Charlie is just him gritting his fangs and allowing it to avoid arguing with her (he wants her to view him as a Good Friend Always so he can manipulate her). Frankly, I think his lack of touch IS scary- imagine a scene of him delightfully sipping tea. Someone says something that hits him just the right way. He's across the room and grabbing onto their arm like a lion does the leg of a zebra. He's NEVER done this before. He's NEVER grabbed someone like this before. You'd KNOW you're fucked.

Alastor is upfront whenever possible. He does not hide shit unless it's EXTREMELY beneficial to him. He won't admit he has a deal bc that makes him look weak. He won't admit Carmilla killed an angel without getting a deal first. Otherwise he's very brusque and often quite happy to be honest- he openly tells Charlie that he enjoys the suffering of sinners at the hotel, he eagerly explains why he's always smiling to her, and he's excited to remind Angel that he CAN make people stay at the hotel against their will. He's not hiding shit.

PETTY ASS BITCH. Alastor is EXTREMELY petty. He adopts Charlie just to piss off Lucifer. He starts a media war with Vox just to remind him that he's the better performer. He decides not to destroy the Eggs because one (1) of them managed to get a bit of info for him. He was willing to film an actual commercial as long as he never had to touch another tv. Alastor's whims blow around in the wind and he just pretends he's totally normal and in the right about it all.

Adam doesn't respect women. According to Lilith's version of events (if they're accurate, of course), he never did. He wants to control women and get them to do whatever he wants. It's why he clicks so well with Lute- Lute is a single-minded killing machine who never disobeyed him or argued about his wishes. The ONLY time Lute ever cut him off- when he almost revealed the exterminations in public- he got very upset, and she joined him later in lording it over Emily's head to make up for it (even tho she clearly respects the Seraphim).

That said, Adam DOES seem to have some level of stopping point. He's evil, but he's not vindictive. He gives Vaggie an out to avoid revealing she's an angel (and only seems to have done it bc Sera commanded him to shut Charlie up somehow). He chides Lute for being too bloodthirsty. None of the attacks from the Exorcists were cruel before the events of the show- they were swift and calculated. He enjoyed killing people, not torturing them.

Adam believes, first and foremost, that he's Important. And why wouldn't he? He was the first man ever made. He had two wives made for him who BETRAYED HIM for Lucifer. He's sired the entire fucking Earth. The bible dedicates a great amount of time detailing his family lineage; and when he dies, he's eventually given control over a legion of super soldiers. All of that has cumulated in a massively overinflated sense of self. He specifically mentions being pissed off that a girl was into the drummer of his band and not him, but caveats that she later did have sex with him, so you'd think that'd be what he wanted. But it's not. He wanted her to only look at Him. Because he's fucking Adam.

People tend to point and laugh at Charlie for being a "theater girl", but I got MAJOR theater kid vibes from Adam personally. His robe is specifically made to look like rock and roll gear. He seems VERY proud of his band. He sends the Exorcists to attack with a song note, and sings off-handedly here and there in the show ("What up, baby!") to the point it feels like he's just as bad, if not worse, than Charlie about running down the street belting out lyrics.

It’s quite common for a city elf to have no valaslin. I didn’t receive one until I was well into maturity. You are correct in that every elf has a choice to obtain one, but it has brought me closer to our culture and religion; however, with the current ongoings, that might change. 

While Rook seems like an admirable person, I ask that you stay cautious around her. Irelin and I spoke with Lace while they were looking for you and learned Rook was asked to take a ‘leave of absence’ from her duties in the Necropolis. She made a call without considering the consequences. And while I know you’ve worked on your impulsiveness, habits die hard. Not to say she wouldn’t be a good ally or friend, but please look before you leap.

The sword slipped from her grip unexpectedly. She hadn’t meant to let go and the sound of it clattering on the palace floor is disconcertingly loud in the cavernous chamber. Tav stares at her empty palm for a moment, dazed and exhausted.

The battle for Avernus had been fierce and bloody. And long. Time moved differently in the Hells and with no sun or moon it felt even longer. Has she been fighting a day? A tenday? A year? Swallowing, hardly aware of the taste of ash and blood, Tav stood straighter and shook her head as if surfacing from a dream. She had to focus.

Where was Raphael?

Her heartbeat began to pound in alarm. Her breaths came in shorter bursts as alarm slipped into panic.

They had won, hadn't they? The violence of the encounter between Zariel and Raphael had shaken the foundation of the entire palace. When Zariel had fallen the entirety of Avernus had felt it in their bones as her hold was released. Like a grip on your heart that you didn't know was there until it was gone.

So where was Raphael?

Shaking off the ugly sense of foreboding that clawed at her, Tav swept her sword off the floor and stepped nimbly between the corpses she had felled.

The palace was so quiet. After Zariel had fallen there had been chaos as her army splintered; her chain of command trying to maintain some sense of control while hordes of hellish creatures seized their sudden freedom and ran. Not all had fled however, the scattered bleeding and smoking bodies attested to some infernal loyalty still at play within Zariel’s ranks.

Or, Tav thought grimly, perhaps they wanted a chance to seize Avernus for themselves.

Beneath her boots the polished stone of Zariel’s palace was filthy and the deeper into the beast she roamed, the more smeared with blood and bile it became. At last she approached the throne and nearly sagged to the floor in relief.

Raphael, enormous in his ascended fiend form, sat on Zariel’s throne. Around him lay the bodies of those he had sundered. It could have been a hundred or a thousand carcasses, Tav wove through and around them without seeing them, her eyes fixed on her quarry.

He sat somewhat awkwardly and the closer she got the reasoning became more apparent. Large gashes littered his frame, several still bleeding sluggishly. Standing on the dias of the throne Tav paused to inspect him more carefully. His eyes were dim with exhaustion, when he exhaled the air wheezed from between his jaws bordering on a whine. Across his chest a wound so deep she could see the black of his bones had her stomach clenching in horror.

“Raphael?” Her voice felt too small and too human to be uttered in this place. The devil hardly seemed to notice her, his eyes drawn down, expression almost...lost.

At his feet lay the corpse of Zariel herself, a ruin of torn flesh and bones.

Drawing closer Tav placed a hand on her lover’s jaw and with a snap of his neck he was looking at her, hellfire thrumming in his veins.

When he took her in he sagged, eyes shutting. “I forgot,” he began, his voice a rough growl, more beast than man in this form. The words slithered into her mind.

Her reserves were depleted. And even now, with his body tattered, Raphael held more power in his claw than she would ever hold in her entire body. But it physically hurt her to see him so flayed and so she mustered her will and pressed a spell into his flesh, ignoring the way her vision swam and her body trembled.

“What did you forget?" she asked.

“Raphael?” She prompted when it seemed he was only going to continue staring at her.

He shook his mighty head. He transformed into his cambion form, the heat of his magic a balm to her frazzled nerves. He glanced down at Zariel but though that's where his gaze was fixed, in his eyes she saw him travel still farther away.

“I forgot how she could get in your mind…manipulate what you saw. I–” The cambion frowned. “She showed me visions, I watched you fall in battle.” His lip curled in a snarl. “A hundred times, a thousand. Every fiend she sent at me had your face…I thought I–”

Tav grabbed his face before he could look away, before he could hide how the idea of her demise had distressed him. She shushed his protest and pushed her face to his. This close she could just barely smell the cherries under the blood and smoke. It brought a smile to her cracked lips.

“I’m here,” she soothed. He moved, and while she expected her surly lover to push her away or brush her aside he surprised her again when instead his arms encircled her and tugged her closer.

Straddling his thighs and sliding her arms around his neck Tav felt the last of her strength give out. Her already blurry vision darkened but strong arms tightened around her, holding her to his chest securely.

“Rest,” he said. “Rest, you foolish mortal. I’m here.”

Emotions are an interesting question for Nahida. She definitely feels a lot, very strongly - but, she tends to compartmentalise those emotions away and rationalise her way through most situations. This can be useful, such as times where she's needed to make decisions under pressure...but it also leads to her applying that same rationalisation to how she feels about what the Sages did to her. All those years trapped in the Sanctuary, she convinced herself that this was something that simply had to happen and its effect on her didn't matter.

Which is why that moment in the Archon Quest where she was finally able to feel and express her anger over what happened to her is so so important. And even after being freed, she's still working on feeling safe enough around her friends to actually open up about all this.

2. Depends on the fic. Elemental is largely planned by events and beats. Most of the AU stuff is chapter to chapter just because of how those plots come to me

11. Need to actually remember their names lol. i think, not in any particular order, its Call of Argus, Swords and Ice, and What You Are. There are some scenes in those three which I really love, lightning in bottles as it were

16. Today I had ideas for the Offspring, F1, and Bandits and Sheriffs and wrote precisely part 1 of one of em :). Just mostly cause sitting in front of the tablet was torture today

20. Facial and eye emotes, actually just emoting in general. It’s difficult for me to write dialogue or conversation in general without also seeing the physical movements of characters. So a lot of eye rolls, scoffing, and movement usually comes into my writing that way.

21. Yeah naturally, I was afraid of doing so for a while just because I’m too aware how sporadic my thought processes can be and how that can be a bit much for others. I think I can manage it now though, so its a possibility.

24. Responses to your work means nothing or comments don’t mean anything. Like every comment you get which is negative is not necessarily a personal attack but the worst thing to do, and I’m very bad at this, is internalizing negativity. Like I got a fairly well mannered and constructive feedback comment not long ago but the only thing I saw in my head from it was how little thought went into the story of the fic and how little actually mattered in the story because of how I wrote it

25. None of them, I think my work gets the most attention it properly deserves

26. Elemental is the obvious answer, it’s 600k of alternative situations, character interactions, and story. It’s a love letter to RWBY I hope in the best way because of it.

40. I mean any scene which resonated with someone who enjoyed reading it. I’m horrible with thinking and remembering my own writing so I honestly have no favourites. But hey if someone does do a thing for anything I make then they will get their own thing in return of me and my undying love

41. I reread a lot more than I think. Mostly cause I forget things a whole lot. But if its someone else’s work I will make a point to read and re read, my own is a different story

54. Publishing. No, I joke. I think it’s writing dialogue or interactions between characters who haven’t necessarily had them. Like Offspring is a good example, how does Cinder and Yang interact when in this condition versus another? And I mean the response to the fics, why else is it to write something than to make other people happy?

55. I mean this when I say it but Cinder has to be the one I love to write but also hate writing. She is very difficult to pin down when it comes to voice, internal dialogue, or reasoning I feel. Because in a lot of ways she can easily both be the power house she is or want to scheme something. She’s charismatic and also easy to be angered. It’s why in Elemental and dialogue she has I have to think about her phrasing forever lol.

65. I mean a little spoilery for Elemental, but I am really looking forward to Winter finally thinking she is capable of protecting Cinder and Weiss without needing to choose between them.

There is a hole in Nahida's life.

A gaping, bleeding wound in her memories; like the imprint of a shadow of something that is no longer there.

If you cut a branch from a tree and take that branch from the forest to use as firewood, it is not removed from the world entirely. The smoke of its burning stains the sky; the stump where it once grew remains to its host tree; even the depressions in the ground caused by its fall will not be entirely lost to time. And even when fresh bark covers the wound, when the grass below springs back and the winds disperse the smoke, that tree will never be the same as it was.

So it is for her.

A question haunts her every step, tantalizing in its incomprehensibility: why was I crying, that day, after purifying Irminsul? Why did I feel like I'd torn my own heart out and crushed it to ash? Why did my First Sage look at me with such horror in their eyes, and later hug me like they were afraid I'd shatter?
