Okay, been at least 24 hours since the chapter release now but still stop reading if you dont want spoilers for One Piece Chapter 1060!

First, what everyone is talking about basically- can we PLEASE stop getting Sabo caught up in explosions?? Please?? Seriously?? The mans been through ENOUGH of these, how much explosion trauma from the world government until theyre satisfied!! He just keeps dying and its time to stop this madness, give him a break and an entire bottle of champagne!!

but surprisingly im not all THAT worried about Sabo.. theres a part of me that just KNOWS theres something going on there. Sabo made it out and got away, but got away from WHAT is my question?? At first when the spoilers came out, between the new pacifistas and the supposed thundering I started freaking out because I thought Enel was coming back. But now after seeing the chapter.. it looks a lot MORE like an ancient weapon?? I always thought the WG had uranus on their side, though I didnt know HOW to solidify that in my head since all the ancient weapons are supposed to be PEOPLE. Does that mean Imu is Uranus?? Or someone else all together, WHAT is going on here?? Especially since ancient weapons so FAR have had control over some kind of creatures: Podeidon -> sea kings

Yet, throughout all this, this chapter was SUCH a wild ride that my mind hadnt even been occupied by these by the time I finished it!! No, i was LOSING my fucking SHIT over Luffys dream!! Like YOUNG MAN what do you MEAN youve had another dream BESIDES being the pirate king and becoming the freest man in the world?!? MY BRAIN had been in SHAMBLES trying to figure OUT what the hell is going on!! But my panicking lasted a good 30min before I remembered.. Thinking about that, it would make sense if Luffys devil fruit, not long after Luffy had eaten it, sort of confessed that dream subconsciously to his mind only for Luffy to take it on and decide to make it come TRUE. And it makes SENSE, because imagine this seven year old telling you with such DETERMINATION that they wanted to hold a party with EVERYONE in the world??? Shanks would definitely laugh himself to tears over that, it sounds CRAZY but its so luffy and him being HIM.. Luffy could do it. Unite all the races and encourage a party- who knows, maybe the reveal of that dream is WHY Uta was now introduced, as someone who can also unite people through song. These are my thoughts and predictions so far, ALTHOUGH.. Zoro also bringing up not underestimating vivi like Luffy had done for Ace like. BRO

Age: Ageless (Appears 17)

Pantheon: Greek

Appearance: A young woman with long spiky bleach blonde hair, yellow eyes, fair skin, and often had small sparks going off around her body. She wears a wreath with a blue lightning bolt design on her head, a toga, sandals, and a often has a scarf made of clouds around her arms and shoulders that will change depending on her mood.     

Background: Asterope is the youngest among Zeus countless children, and seems to be growing into the most powerful. From a young age she showed great potential, displaying all of her father’s abilities and powers. She is the only one among her siblings able to properly wield her fathers famed weapons, Thunder and Lightning. Everyone thought that with her father stepping down at the leader of Olympus, and the previous Hera gone, she was a sure pick to become the new head of the Pantheon. 

Unfortunately for her, after the current Hera fell to Aku and was brought back as a goddess, Oberon supported her claim as leader instead, believing that she (and her father) were too arrogant and needed to be humbled. While this irked her, she didn’t put up much of a fuss, instead choosing to bide her time until she could take control and prove to everyone who the rightful ruler of Olympus should be. 

When she hears about Typhon’s son being on Earth, she hoped it would lead to Hera’s downfall. But after her father manages to finesse an agreement with Oberon and puts a hit on him, she sees a much simpler opportunity. She intends to take the young titans head, and then use the favor from Oberon to have Hera removed and take her rightful place as the new leader of the Greek Pantheon.     

Personality: Asterope is usually very confident, laid back, and haughty. With her being the most powerful offspring of one of the most powerful gods on Earth, she has little to fear and tends to look down on those around her. She believes that it is her divine right to lead, act, and do as she pleases. And she is more than willing to casually smite down anyone who would defy her. 

She tends to spend most of her time lounging around and being waited on by her servants. Occasionally she will find ways to kill her boredom, whether it be humiliating her servants or hunting beasts (or people). She is somewhat sadistic, preferring to toy with her enemies before finishing them off just to show them how much more superior she is to them. If she gets too bored she’s not beyond falling asleep in the middle of a fight, both to pass time and rub salt in the wound to her opponents. She becomes angry when someone doesn’t play along with her games, and equally so when her prey doesn’t break quickly enough. 

She has a very black and white view about her status and position. That she’s the strongest and most capable, and therefore the best suited to rule. If anyone aside from those she considered her betters (her father, Oberon, etc) disagrees, they’re wrong by default. She believes that as a goddess she shouldn’t be questioned or challenged, and expects her servants to follow orders without delay, unless they want to face her divine punishment.  

Powers and Abilities: As the daughter of Zeus, Asterope is able to control and manipulate thunder, lightning, wind, and rain. She typically only uses the first two in combat, but will use the others to alter the terrain to her advantage. Typically she will call down lighting to to strike whoever is opposing her (she typically tones her power back so she can see how many times she can strike them before killing them) 

She uses thunder to blast enemies, not only hitting them with devastating force, but affecting their hearing as well. She uses wind to boost fly and boost herself, and rain to allow her lightning to affect more of the area around her. When she gets serious, she will charge herself with lightning, increasing her speed, power, and durability. 

She can summon clouds around the battlefield to strike her enemies with lightening or rain down or boom thunder at them. But her most threatening ability is her power to turn into lightning itself, moving at blinding speed and too fast for most to even keep up. While she can’t properly use her other abilities in this form, she is able to move through people, usually striking them in the heart for a killing blow.  

Relationships (if any): 

Zeus: Her father felt immediate pride at how strong his daughter was from birth, and spoiled her every chance she got. He constantly told her how she was “A child worthy to be his true heir”. He is one of the only people who she’ll listen to or heed advice from, and genuinely respects and cares for him. She intends to do his name justice among the realms of the gods by usurping Hera and reminding everyone their line is truly in charge.    

Hera: She has a strong dislike for Hera, believing that someone who once had “The stench of mortality” is unfit to lead gods like her. While she doesn’t directly go against her rules, she openly speaks out and against her whenever they’re among the other gods. Once she takes control of the Pantheon, she intends to give her a lower ranking position to reflect her “true status”.

Servants: She treats most of her servants as just that, servants. But a select few, the ones who are the strongest among them and perform her bidding, warrant her respect and are the closest thing she has to friends. She considered them hers, and is personality insulted when someone strikes them down. 

Brontes: Her giant pet eagle who is often seen lounging around with her. She pampers it and treats it better than most people. It’s immortal and a divine beast. It was hatched and mothered from the same eagle that ate the liver of Prometheus.

Asterope smiled as she walked past Hera, who didn’t look at all pleased. “Enjoy your precious last few hours as the Supreme Goddess of this Pantheon Hera. Once they're over, I assure you I will be making some long needed changes…”

Trivia: Asterope’s personality is partly based off of Enel from One Piece.

Never in his existence did he wanted to stop the time as he did now. You, fully drenched by the rain, with all of your clothes sticking to your body and being as see through as possible. Your black bra being visible through your white shirt and your skirt being a little pulled up, sticking to your thighs.As you were breathing hard, you tried to calm down and remind yourself that Enel is not going to attack you. Sanji realized that your behavior was off and approached you slowly, still keeping a distance, "What happened? Oh geez, oh yikes. I’m obligated to say Seu’ku ‘cause he’s my guide. I still feel very attached to Amarok as well, but I think I’m going to have to go with Keet– the Lord of the Seas, who waged war on humans to the point where they had to call down the Thunderbird for assistance. I’m apparently blood of his blood after all, but I’ve always been drawn to him especially.

And I’m currently writing the last chapter of Family Antics because I want it done, but then I may, in the next few months, start dabbling with the modern AU as like... a palate cleanser for KidNami, so people can take a break from all the violence and darkness and general awfulness they have to endure in Amber Curse, and enjoy some cute fluff and flirting and mutual pining. Yes, mutual pining. I’m gonna let Nami actually fall for him on her own terms in it, thus why it will be moderately healthier. So, if people have an interest in cutesy fluff that goes from friendship to crush to stupidly acting on their feelings and then panicking and then getting pregnant and then panicking again, then I will totally write it. Eventually.

Well, judging by the fact that everything I write has Nami as a character, I would say her. I just enjoy writing her. She’s so dynamic and has so much potential and depth of character that kind of gets ignored by some people, and I just love peeling at her layers and playing with her character. And I always feel like the world is so much more vibrant when I look at it through her eyes. There are a lot of extremes. The beauty in the world is magnificent and poetic and comforting, and there is just so much optimism there. And then the uglier sides of the world are terrifying and dark and heavy, but still countered with this resilient sort of optimism that she has forced onto herself (thank you Sagittarius mama for telling her to never stop smiling, lol). She, to me, is this precious beacon of hope and forgiveness and life, and then she can be a total snarky, greedy, manipulative little shit, and I just love her so much for all of it. She is my child now. I have adopted her.

Also, obviously, Kid is another favorite. He’s also very dynamic and unpredictable, and we don’t know a lot about him, but I’ve always felt that a good chunk of the fandom mis-characterizes him all because he’s got a temper. They don’t look at the root cause of that anger, they don’t look at his poignant insights regarding the world and government, they don’t see the cynical, emotional man that I see. Some cast him off as dumb, more brawn than brain, when he’s shown that he can think tactically, he can control his temper when he needs to, he can sit and observe and think critically about the world around him. And to me he’s a deeply creative soul. He loves music, he loves working with his hands. His best friend is a fucking drummer in his spare time. Like, he is very creative and there are a lot of aspects to him that remind me of myself... Even the temper, something I struggled with a lot at some stages in my life. Law is also a favorite (no shit, right?). I’ve been trying to find his voice again, but getting in touch with his darker emotions and psychological disturbances has really helped. This boy has issues. He is precious, and so emotional, and so loving, but this boy has seen too much shit in his life and it has left him deeply damaged. As much as I love writing fluff for him and letting him be happy, I have found that it is so much more fun letting him be his problematic, sadistic self.

5) character you were most surprised to end up writing

I’m gonna say this is a tie between X Drake and Enel. Probably more so Enel. I never imagined that I would have a plot that could utilize him as well as Amber Curse, but there he is. Even more surprising, I’m thinking up stuff to write from his point of view in that story. That man is so fucking twisted and screwed up, but, to be fair, he makes some good points from time to time. If he would cut it out with the attempted genocide/mass murder shit, I might enjoy writing him more.

Drake I figured I would have a reason to use him eventually, if only because it’s fun writing interactions between him and Law, but I never thought I would write things that give him more depth and flesh out his character so much. I adore the shit out of him, though. I call him my son, but we are the same age... which is also why I adore his so much. He is an actual, full-fledged adult, trying to cope with all these teenagers and young adults, and sometimes he just wants to sleep, but noooooo Trafalgar Law exists solely to be a thorn in his side. But yeah, never thought I would write so much for him, or that I would fall in love with him as much as I have.

All hands are needed on deck when it comes to the future power needs of the world. And all hands should be digitised and ready to pitch in to help each other.

These are some of the thoughts of Vera Silva, chief technology officer at GE’s Grid Solutions business. Silver sat down recently to answer some questions over the biggest challenges looming both in the generation sector and throughout the grid.

Digitisation is the one thing that both conventional and renewable players agree on. We’re already seeing the impact in smart grid and grid edge technologies. What role do you see it playing in power plants over the next year specifically?

Vera Silva, chief technology officer, GE Grid Solutions

“About 70% of the US grid’s transmission lines and power transformers are over 25 years old and the average power plant is over 30 years old. Aging infrastructure coupled with the integration of distributed energy resources (DERs) at the distribution level will require significantly more advanced grid applications like lifecycle asset performance management (APM) and grid services to optimise asset operation, maintenance and replacement. The rise of digital solutions calls for the entire value chain – from generation to consumption – to be optimised to operate more efficiently and economically.

“Over the next year, large, centrally-located power plants will be supplemented with new, renewable energy sources connected throughout the transmission and distribution system. We’ve already seen some impacts in smart grid and grid edge technologies, but as we move towards a growing network of interconnected grids, we’ll begin to see a new digital grid of the future emerge. In turn, smart sensors and advanced software and control will soon play a vital role in providing greater efficiency, reliability, and cost-effectiveness for grid operators, owners, and consumers.”

What piece of the power generation mix is more likely to enhance digitisation than others?

“The changing generation mix has been one of the most visible trends across the globe. Renewables are growing and poised to enhance digitisation significantly. Over the past five years, US generation sourced from non-hydro renewables (particularly wind and solar) has nearly doubled, from around 5% in 2012 to almost 10% in 2017 according to Deloitte. The rise of solar PV and wind power in places like Europe, Mexico, India and China is bringing unprecedented importance to the flexible operation of power systems in order to keep the lights on. While we’re seeing an increase in renewable sources, nuclear, coal and gas-fired technologies will remain an important component of the electric power mix in certain geographies as they give backup capacity and flexibility.

“The future power generation mix is moving towards a diversified one comprised of all fuels and technologies, and this mix will gradually shift towards distributed renewables as their cost competitiveness continues to improve. With the help of digital technologies along with other technology innovations, the future grid will also evolve to meet this change by effectively integrating diverse electricity sources from both fossil fuels and renewables. The convergence of cheaper renewable energy technologies, digital applications and the rising role of electricity, as a key vector to reach carbon neutrality, is a crucial vector for change. Low carbon electricity will be essential for meeting many of the world’s sustainable development goals.”

EVs seem to be on the rise, yet GM drops the Chevy Volt. Will infrastructure rise enough over the next year or so to make EV adoption ever more feasible? Please give examples of projects.

“One powerful trend driving the global energy landscape transformation is the growth of electrification. According to the IEA, electricity will play a key role as a vector of the decarbonisation of transportation. This in turn will lead to the mass adoption of electric vehicles. In fact, EV sales are projected to rise 27-fold by 2030 from 1.1 million today, leading to dramatic cost decline for battery packs that will ultimately result in cheaper stationary storage applications, according to Bloomberg’s NEO Outlook 2018. This will drive an increase in electricity demand and require a grid infrastructure that follows. Infrastructure to support this growth won’t happen overnight, but rather rise gradually. There are currently projects in progress to manage the accelerating EV adoption, such as the California Electric Vehicle Infrastructure Project (CALeVIP) which aims to install sufficient charging infrastructure to support the state’s goal of up to 1.5 million plug-in EVs by 2025. This trend is also observed in Europe with large utilities such as Enel and EDF launching ambitious electric mobility plans and new businesses for the next decade.”

What are the major HVDC projects around the world coming to fruition? And in the US?

“The North Sea serves as the largest area of offshore wind, and HVDC technology is increasingly being used to bring that power onshore. Because of that, we’ve seen the most activity in Europe, with interconnector projects in the United Kingdom, Scotland, Norway, Belgium, France, Italy and Germany. Germany is currently leading in this offshore application and GE has further demonstrated this through our DolWin3 project. There are also some pending projects in the UK, US and Asia. In the US in particular, we see existing HVDC installations being upgraded as well as some new projects emerging in the Northeast for both interconnector projects and offshore wind. Lastly, South Korea is also an area where a number of new HVDC projects are coming to fruition.”

Renewables seem to have a transmission challenge domestically. Speak on that and how it might be resolved in the near future.

“HVDC technology is one solution to resolving domestic renewables transmission challenges. Over the next few years, deployment of this technology will be important to connecting new wind and solar resources to the grid as well as supporting their integration by efficiently moving them over long distances. HVDC systems in conjunction with flexible AC transmission systems (FACTS) and synchronous condensers are key technologies enabling greater grid stability. As more cities look to convert to clean energy sources, we’ll need to have transmission systems in place that are capable of carrying electricity over long distances. These technologies will allow major population centres far from the source to easily make the transition to renewables. In Europe HVDC is playing an increasingly important role to reinforce cross border interconnection – helping to balance generation and demand over larger areas and enabling a better share of resources and smoothing wind and solar intermittency.”

Microgrids certainly seem to be the answer to resiliency, although a very expensive one. Where will the investment in global microgrids (especially in developing areas) come from and why?

“Microgrid systems can be used to optimise the dispatch of electricity on demand and improve resiliency. They also allow better utilisation of local resources such as small-scale photovoltaic panels or windmills. They enable a combined energy optimisation on a territory to aggregate and allow local flexibility in the areas of demand response or storage. Microgrid systems work to improve grid resiliency and energy availability to deliver electrification of critical infrastructure to remote communities.”

Everyone wants electric power everywhere. Renewables are exciting for some, while others need it whether it’s the sun, wind or gas and rocks beneath the surface. Might global electrification be a door to keep all sources viable, including coal and nuclear?

“Absolutely. The existing electricity system will continue to shift from one that is based on centralised generation – with transmission and distribution moving electricity to consumers – to an integrated and hybridised network that orchestrates distributed, digitally-enhanced, and low carbon technologies providing reliable, affordable and sustainable electric power. This will include energy technologies across the spectrum including renewable energy, gas turbines, steam turbines and nuclear, among others.

“As recently as 2000, Europe and North America accounted for more than 40% of global energy demand and developing economies in Asia for around 20%, according to the IEA’s World Energy Outlook 2018. However, rising incomes coupled with population growth in urban areas in developing economies will completely reverse this situation, pushing energy demand up by more than a quarter by 2040. As energy demand grows, every possible mix of generation will be needed to support global electrification.” SEI

I absolutely love your X drake and Nami sibling fan fictions and headcanon. Im hoping if Oda does a moon arc that he will join with the straw hats since his interest are Astrophysics.

Ehehehe, I’m so glad when I hear people like that headcanon. I honestly say (and I will probably be condemned for this) that I will take Drake and Nami being siblings in canon over literally any one of my ships being endgame. Like, I need that familial relationship, it would just be so damn adorable (at least it is in my head).

As to the rest of that... DINOSAUR! ON! THE! MOON! I REPEAT -

Yes please. Oda make this happen. I imagine there’s some old B level sci-fi flick that addresses this very scenario. Was Godzilla ever on the moon? This feels like a good Godzilla plot.

Also, you’d have Drake and Franky probably nerding out the entire time figuring out how to get to the moon (Nami probably makes a casual mention of Enel’s ship and what she saw on it - she’s gotta remember that, it was a ship made of fucking gold and powered by lightning). Then when they get to the moon you got Enel there (hopefully he’s still there) with his new robot army thing, thus further exciting them because technology and weapons and space stuff. Meanwhile Robin finds the ruins and glyphs that Enel found and spends a whole day reading them while the boys are playing with robots and talking astrophysics. Nami’s just trying to avoid Enel (at one point she’s probably on Drake’s back telling dino-bro to get moving because she saw lightning and she does not want a repeat of Skypeia). Enel has to eventually find her, though, cuz I need to hear his opinion on her latest climatact and weather manipulation abilities. I mean, that man was actually a little impressed that she could defend against his lightning with her first climatact that, as we all remember, was like 50% party tricks in the beginning. Just imagine his opinion now that she can call a whole storm and control lightning, too. Might legit ask her to join his crew and without putting her through a damn gauntlet to prove her worth (though he’ll probably still try to hurt her friends, because he’s a dick like that).

Kid probably needs to be in this arc for the robots, too, but likely won’t be and will be so damn jealous and pissed off for missing out on moon robots.

I am totally down for a Moon arc, doubly so if Drake is dragged along for the ride. XD
