[i assume this means the rants, and not art bc i havent mentioned art but… soon maybe. anyways didnt mean for this to be ~400 words but i compiled my thoughts so heres my in defense of dsmp shipping rant]

I think the 2020 (though. still probably prevalent now) dsmp fandom held such a moral high ground against the most normal fandom culture tendencies, but ESPECIALLY shipping. And it's holed together ALL ships in the dreamsmp. its combined the most mundane harmless ships with like, literal pedophilia. which is. insane?!?! and i feel like probably does more harm than good, by a lot…

and at this point, we’ve separated the characters from the creators SO MUCH that the hyper surveillance of shipping is so… not worth it anymore. the mental separation of cc! and c! dsmp only took until aboouuuttt half the players getting outed as groomers and abusers, and not when the story started to drift into being OBVIOUSLY FABRICATED and none of the characters having any personality resemblance to the creators anymore

i just think dsmpshipping shouldnt be so controversial. and this goes for like, all completely harmless ships. for some reason the only ones that were socially acceptable to openly romantically ship were the SUPER popular ships (gnf, quackbur, etc.) and the canon ones BUT ONLY IF THEY WERE ADULTS (quackity and his trillion lovers lmao, fwt, awesamponk, etc.)

and that last one really irks me. like you guys know shipping is not inherently sexual right? that its okay to ship fictional teens? and that its not automatically weird? like the way c!beeduo shippers were getting witch hunted back then was INSANE considering that they were canonically married and had a child (and never make me defend beeduo shippers, not bc of any moral reason, but bc they r kinda annoying /lh)

i dont know i just wish dsmp could be treated like a normal fandom, especially now that people are doing a full separation of character from creator, but it still feels like the shipping aspect is the one part that still faces an abundance of unwarranted scrutiny.

As many people have mentioned, Dream is very good about framing things to make himself sound right and other people sound unreasonable. But not a single video or post he has made so far can convince me that he is doing this with good intentions, because of the way he speaks towards everyone else involved and those he dragged in.

Now I mainly picked up on this with Tubbo and Tommy, but there are hints of it towards his viewers too: he speaks to us all like we’re children. The way a parent talks to a child they’re trying to gently reprimand, or the way a teacher talks about a subject in class. He speaks like we would never be able to come to these conclusions without his help and that he needs to guide us through it all or we’d get lost in the sea of information. And sure, plenty of his viewer base are kids, but the majority of people who would be watching this drama are fans from the Dream SMP era who knows all these people and remembers when they all used to talk and hang out. We may have been kids back then, but it’s coming up on half a decade since that server began; we’re not kids anymore. I myself started watching the DSMP when I was a underclassman in high school, I’m in college now. All the people he called the R-slur, the people who were offended and wanted an apology that he took days to properly deliver, most of us are adults. We can form our own conclusions, and we’re not an amorphous blob of opinions and views, we’re our own people.

This is especially bad when talking about it to Clingyduo, especially Tubbo. In his 3 hour stream he continually talks about Tubbo being misguided, and despite saying he has great respect for Tubbo and his opinions he skips context and actual criticism multiple times or, as Tubbo mentions, tunnel visions on one part of the criticism he can target and tosses the rest out with it when he’s done. He doesn’t give two shits about what Tubbo says unless it’s something he can use against the people criticizing him to make them sound disingenuous. With Tommy it’s worse, because when he’s not villainizing him beyond belief he’s using that condescending tone to talk about how proud he is and how he thought Tommy was special, which explains why Tommy felt so much pressure from him and like he owed him his success, or at least that Dream thought as much. He holds his approval over his head, like an abusive parent who just spent hours screaming in your face about how much of a disappointment you are before telling them “Of course I still love you.” It has the underlying tone of “you’ll make up for this slight, won’t you?”

And don’t even get me started about the DMs to both Tommy and Sarah. It’s fine to explain your feelings, but you’re not explaining them, you are blaming these feelings and reactions on them and telling them “You are the reason I’ve been suffering, it’s your fault for all of these horrible things that other people have been doing to me.” That’s not explaining your feelings, that’s guilt tripping and expecting an apology. That’s how long texts like that come across, that you don’t want the other person to be able to interject, you don’t want to make this a conversation, you want to drop your feelings and leave them to clean up the mess.

Dream’s a manipulative jerk, that’s all this has proved to me.

lol very good timing indeed. They are definitely interesting… first because their fight over c!Punz is hilarious XD But also the parallelism of c!Tubbo and c!Punz is cool.

They are both too loyal and supportive for their own good, enabling and helping their friend to make poor and detrimental choices. C!Tommy drags c!Tubbo into conflicts and things he questions, but even when he disagrees he still is right by c!Tommy’s side. And c!Punz sticks by c!Dream’s side even as he spirals, sticking to the plan even when things have clearly gone wrong. They would die for eachother and risk running into highly dangerous situations right along side their friend. Interesting, C!Punz and c!Tubbo on their own tend to be wholesome friends with everyone, but c!Tommy and c!Dream manage to pull them into chaos and conflict. Oddly, too they are both into bees which is cute (why are they not the bee duo?!…). There is also the parallelism of c!Tubbo betraying c!Tommy and sending him to exile and c!Punz betraying c!Dream and sending him to prison. And neither c!Punz nor c!Tubbo visit them while away in isolation. Oh and they are also all blonds lol. XD

Also I love qTubbo so far :D He's so smart and bold and yet still so lovingly pathetic at times. Not a wet cat but not bone dry. It's a breath of fresh air to see Toby playing a character so individual because, and I'm saying this as a HUGE clingyduo lover & cTommy pov main, it was so fucking tiring seeing cTubbo reduced to "Tommy's right hand bestie" or "silly traumatized depressed loner goat boy." There's layers to cTubbo that were so slept on by the wider dsmp community it makes me boil harder than pasta water. River Egopocalypse is the only person I follow who I trust with cTubbo. Precious cargo.

Really really hoping qTubbo gets done better by the community, all the ways his love for Create & factories, his love for the eggs, his curiosity about the island & Cucurucho, & his allegiances to other islanders could intersect to weave into a complex character with so much worth sinking your teeth into is SO exciting :D Toby said he's been writing lore ideas, I'm sooo hyped.
