#/lighthearted still love this show

Every once in a while I will randomly remember a childhood show and this time it was Lab Rats. Went and watched some clips and part of the first episode and wow- the amount of abuse trauma ABC would have if this wasn't a comedy show aimed at kids-

I think a lot about how common it is for Raph to be the one to have direct focus put on him when Leo gets into all his near death experiences.

Like, when Leo is thrown off a building, it’s Raph who’s right there jumping after him, not even thinking about the consequences to himself when he does. When Leo almost gets skewered by the Krang, Raph’s right there to take the blow and send Leo to safety without a second thought. When Leo’s being strangled to near death, it’s a Krangified Raph doing the job, doing exactly what Raph would never, ever want to do. When Leo is telling Casey Jr to close the portal, it’s Raph who tries desperately to convince Leo otherwise.

Likewise, Leo is consistently very single minded when Raph gets forcibly separated from them. Both when in the sewers and by the Krang, Leo is dead set on finding Raph first and foremost.

I also think it’s interesting that during each of Leo’s near death experiences, the lightheartedness of his words during them goes directly hand in hand with both how close Raph is to him physically and how much danger Raph is also in in that moment. From a literal “I told you so” as Leo’s falling away from Raph to a soft joke about how “hero moves” are Raph’s style - both of these are on the more morbidly carefree side and both of these notably take Leo farther away from Raph and, in turn, have Raph not in immediate danger.

On the other side of things is the apology from Leo, heedless of the danger he himself is in as he seriously and genuinely speaks to a Krangified Raph face to face. Then there’s Leo’s freezing and desperation as Raph takes a hit meant for him and sends just Leo to safety, leaving Raph himself behind. Both of these involve much closer proximity and Raph being directly harmed - these together make Leo much more vulnerable in his words and actions, something not even the threat of death can make him.

These two care about each other so much, and they’re way too much alike for their own good.

was just thinking about how amazing it is that weird wonderful world and ghost files exist at the same time from the same company. you have the same minds, the same hosts, the same team and yet the shows are like day and night. www reminds us of the wonder and whimsy and joy all around us while ghost files showcases the world's darker side in its tragedies and horrors. and that they're able to execute both shows each with its own finely-tuned aesthetic and its own little universe is really a beautiful display of how much Talent and Love exists at watcher and it's so so special.

Multiple interpretations and implications exist simultaneously and the writers know that. It’s honestly insulting to assume they don’t.

oh yeah no i'm aware of the point of this au being that their personalities are more or less the same, just the roles they place in the story. i just forgot the word 'redeemed' and was unsure how to word it without it being to clutter-y. i usually try not to swarm inboxes with my ramblings😅

this point is actually what fascinates me in your au so much! like, it gives so much room to play around with, yet still stays true to the show :) IT'S SUCH A GOOD AU!!

if i'm understanding right now, you are/were asking how wander gets redeemed, or how it would go down when he does (sorry if that's still not really your question)? because i have plans i cannot share with you lest my enemies (the creatures in my brain that keep me from actively doing anything) try to strike me down... but the event would be ermmm Power of friendship, to be as vague as possible, and it would have to do with the strength of the bond between meteor and peepers and esp the bond between sylvia and wander..... i want to say more but i cant without spoiling what im cooking......

Zuko is gruff and imperfect in his attempts to show kindness, and yet fighting comes as easy as breathing. I love fics that tackle that awkwardness, that stumbling kindness, but don’t portray it in that way that makes Zuko just seem hopeless, and actually explore it. He wants to be kind. He wants to care, but he’s lived a life where that is few and far between.

We’ve seen zuko fight in all different ways, with bending, with swords, with knives, hell, even hand to hand. And yet, he stumbles over his words when Jin flirts with him, offers Li only a knife - a tool of violence - to show he’s thankful, pushes Jet away the second he reaches out when they meet on the boat. He steels that man’s swords from him out of revenge and selfishness and steals Song’s ostrich horse rather than face her and the truth. He robs the rich man on the highway, and lures a secret police officer into an ally to frighten him into spilling information.

Yet, he blanched at Song’s easy compassion and at Li’s parents offer to let him stay. It’s the easiest thing in the world to leave Jin behind, to leave Li behind, to fight Jet in the streats in Ba Sing Se. It’s easier to steal and fight and scream. It’s easier to fight for survival than ask for someone’s kindness. After all, he wouldn’t know what to do with that.

One thing I love about Sons of Garmadon is how it puts Ninjago in a darker tone simply by changing your perspective of the series. Seeing Harumi’s backstory shows the victims of Ninjago’s villains, and makes you wonder if other citizens died from other Ninjago finales. It puts the show in a much darker light as you ponder on the perspectives of civilians during important battles

The whole season focusses on the masks we wear, but it’s not just Harumi wearing a mask. It was the entire series. Ninjago will always be a lighthearted show, and the series returned to its original lighthearted tone with the Wildbrain seasons. Yet it’s season 8, and by extension the Oni Trilogy, that shows a different mask to Ninjago by changing our viewpoint of one of the show’s most iconic seasons. Hence why Sons of Garmadon is my favourite season of the whole show

I have a big google doc thing where I keep track of media and stuff (putting everything in loosely ranked categories), which is mostly just for my own reference so I know what tv shows I've already seen before, etc. and I never really look back through it, typically just a quick "okay, watched two movie in the past 8 months, need to quickly slap them somewhere in the lists. okay. done. save document. exit". But today I was actually reading through some of the old notes and there are like... MULTIPLE places where my comment is basically "It would have been good if it were about elves" or "I wish there was a fantasy show made in this same style" or "It's well made, but I just keep thinking about how I would like it more if everyone was an elf or was in old 1700s costumes" or etc like...... lol.... Most biased media ranking system on earth blatantly made by someone with an extremely hyperspecific range of narrow interests. It'd be like if a food reviewer only had 5 foods they actually liked, so they'd just go to a pizza place and be like "eh, the pizza was okay, but I just think it would be better if it was cereal instead. :/ ...2 out of 10"

I like it when old people have romance plots in media. Divorced parent gets a new partner and their child loves them. Widow re-marries and finds happiness with their new spouse. Old gays finally able to have their dream wedding and live their lives openly. Elders finding love in a nursing home found-family style. Just. People older than 30 falling in love and having fulfilling relationships is what I mean. Because all I see ever is divorce plots and grief and loneliness because apparently you can only ever be happy and have fun as a teen/young adult. The moment you hit a certain age you stop being elegible for the role rom-com protagonist. It's a little discouraging tbh. I want to see that change.

as i'm working on my interview questions for my buddy cole documentary i just had to make a side-by-side "before and after" of these two interviews related to buddy cole's presence in the amazon revival because wow look at that contrast.

first interview was from while the troupe was still writing the amazon sketches and the second is from while they were filming. gee i wonder what could have changed things??? why did we go from scott saying he'd written eleven buddy cole monologues to refusing to talk about buddy cole when prompted? why was bruce's anecdote about scott's buddy one man show delivered as a reason to get excited in the first half but with literal tears in his eyes in the second half? why did scott go from a very vocal participant in the interview in the first half to "just here to look pretty" in the second half? (spoiler alert: it was amazon completely censoring buddy cole)

i rewatched these interviews so i could write specific questions about promoting the amazon show but after watching that last clip i literally just had to lay on the floor listening to motion sickness by phoebe bridgers like jfc scott deserved better

First of all, I loved this episode sm!! I getting better at accepting the differences between this and the books. Second, I could not get over Percy wearing JEANS in the summer time. Like Ik some people do but like rly?!?! Wearing JEANS for your quest that you know is going to be outside?!?

sometimes replacing an emotion with a perhaps-equally-worse-but-for-different-reasons emotion works (even if its not healthy. we're not getting to healthy right now we're getting to what Works). today i was so pissed off about how the day was going and i felt so guilty for the kitties that i haven't been able to feed yet that day that after i cooked i just got into the car and drove to get cat supplies. and i didn't feel anxious as i usually did when i drove, and that is because i felt Angry instead. and it helped move things a lot

i understand how people fall prey to using anger as a motivator now. my mind was empty except for getting cat supplies and getting out.

at least i got to go to the bank today, so i'm able to make donations that i haven't been able to recently. head in hands. so, you know. silver linings
