Explanation for this:

Dangaronpa V3 is kinda meh to me so this is my au in which Rantaro and Kaede are the main protagonist and antagonist duo.

I also think the 3rd trial is a big waste of potential. They had such a cool idea in mind with the whole "Korekiyo confessed to one murder but not the other" but then in the end it's revealed he actually commited both and it's like.... ok??? You're telling me we could've had a trial with 2 murderers who didnt know about eachother's exsistance and that no matter what there would be a killed left among the survivors??? Anyways in this au I like to pitch the idea of Himiko secretly being the second killer who accidentally murdered Angie and although Korkiyo did kill Tenko his crime doesn't count as Himiko killed Angie before him.

There could've been fun loopholes I'm just saying 🙄🙄🙄

Also I think the dynamic between Rantaro and Kaede could've been fun to explore in a "Kaede wants to trust and believe her friends while Rantaro is aware they could betray them at any moment" kind of situation

happy birthday to my guy ever. horrors time babey

not much process discussion but there’s a sketch and some rambling utc

i struggle a lot with coming up for ideas for him cause there’s so much i wanna convey and so many ideas that i can never put down. i had a concept in mind but i ended up procrastinating and figured i wouldn’t have the time to execute it, plus the images i picture in my mind usually don’t end up being super correct anatomy/perspective wise so it’s hard to recreate what im thinking. it was much more complex than what i ended up going with and im trying to make some of my works simpler as well, as i feel like i tend to crowd a lot of imagery and symbolism together which makes it hard to digest.

i realized i haven’t done any drawings with strong yellow lighting before so i wanted to try it out. i think it turned out well but for some reason when i added the blood all i could think of was minions. its not even close to their kind of yellow idk what’s happening lmao. i’ve been having fun just letting my work be messy and it helps me loosen up and add more motion to the piece. the only problem is messy work = messy sketches and there were a lot of things i completely forgot when i did my flat colours on top of the sketch. like when i drew the hands he only had 4 fingers on each hand??? i even had a photo reference that i took myself LMAO but maybe i was just tired when i drew it. proportions were a real puzzle with this one, especially with the nose. i just couldn’t get the angle right… and dont even get me started on the teeth 😨 never drew those before!!

anyways i wasn’t thinking much on this one i just wanted to draw a gun. i’ve discovered i really enjoy drawing guns (at least revolvers.) so maybe more of those in the future

Chapter Three Culprits,,

I was gonna save these a little longer, but it's Mikan's birthday, so we have it a little sooner. Celestia's so detailed, which she pulls off well, but is such a pain in the ass to draw. She's very beautiful, tho. I think Mikan's is the weakest of the group. I feel like her pose and expression are the least interesting, but she's still cute. Kiyo is my favorite guy, I don't draw him as much as I want to. I like his expression, it's all in the eyes and his body language

Okay but now I'm thinking about the V3 cast and the fact that they were. Really quickly institutionalized because of what happened to Kaede and Rantaro.

I think that it's fair to say that a lot of the characters were or became reactive characters after chapter 1, which makes it not so great narratively speaking--but there is a reason why everyone just, kind of shut down and started to pretend everything was normal and fine and there was nothing wrong with their lives in the living hell they were forced to be in.

Kaede's attempt to kill the Mastermind, Rantaro's plan to thwart the mastermind--all of it was a prime example of "If you go against us, you will die next."

This is especially important to note because unlike the rest of the V3 executions, like in every other game, the first execution was done live/in front of the rest of the cast. Except with Kaede it was a spectacle of why you do not try to thwart the Mastermind. It's an effective way to snuff out any rebellion or unity.

So when the class learned that fighting the Mastermind would get them so brutally killed, they became so scared of their own reality that they escaped into a fake one--where they all ate breakfast in the mornings together, chatted like normal people, and lived their daily lives like this was just any other Tuesday.

They were bashed over the head with learned helplessness and they were conditioned into being the perfect little group of people to be in a killing game. They stopped trying to escape, they stopped trying to be defiant, they idealized escaping but never made any real plans after Kaede's attempt because if they tried, it would end in disaster.

That's also why Kokichi was scapegoated.

He didn't play along with their desperate fantasy for normalcy. He reminded everyone of the death and destruction that was behind them and in front of them and he continued to rebel ever so subtly. He tried, he really did try, but when you got a group of kids fearing for their lives so much that they give up on escaping because the first person to show rebellion ended up dead, it's really hard to make them unlearn that learned helplessness.

So they see Kokichi as the outside, the troublemaker. He's ruining their desperate attempts to lead normal lives in these hellish conditions, reminding them of the horror that they are trapped in a killing game with no real way out, reminding them that the next murderer could be their new best friend or even themselves, or the next victim could be either or, they react violently. That kind of reality isn't easy to face. So they reject Kokichi, the one ruining their only semblance of Normalcy, because he is pushing them to remember that their situation is far from normal.

And if they remember that, then their small threads of sanity crumbles with it. Because they were taught very quickly that rebellion ends with death--so if they try to live in reality, they have to face that they are essentially going to die in that hellhole whether they comply or rebel.

So there's no point in rebelling. They're dead either way. So why does this troublemaker keep pushing them? They don't want to be pushed. They want to pretend it's all normal for their own sanity. Why is he is insensitive? Why is he so cruel?

And that's why Kokichi ended up as a scapegoat--because everyone was so desperate for happiness and normalcy that they couldn't take the cruel reality they were living in.

Actually here's how I think Tenko would react after flipping everyone (written in the POV of Tenko):

Rantaro: It feels like he's carrying a heavy weight on his shoulders, he needs to be more open/honest.

Kaede: She's definitely burdened by something, but she also seems very determined so Tenko isn't too worried. Tenko will support Kaede any way she can!

Kirumi: Wow, Kirumi is so cool! But... is it really okay for her to handle so many burdens at once? Kirumi seems capable, so Tenko won't worry too much about her.

Ryoma: ...Maybe Tenko should invite Ryoma to do some aikido one day.

Angie: Angie... is confusing. Tenko doesn't sense that Angie is malicious but at the same time, Angie is more dangerous than she lets on.

Korekiyo: He's a very strong willed person, but Tenko also senses some dangerous vibes coming from him. Keep alert around him.

Miu: Miu needs to be more open and trusting. She's not helping herself by hiding behind crude remarks. Aikido should help!

Gonta: Strangely enough, Tenko doesn't sense anything negative, which goes against everything she knows. How... baffling.

Kokichi: This guy is a hazard to himself.

Kaito: This guy is a hazard to himself.

Kiibo: Not only is he literally heavy, it feels like Tenko has just flipped more than one person. Like, an audience worth of people.

Tsumugi: What the fuck.

Maki (before her reveal): Tenko senses Maki is hiding something... but she doesn't sense any bad intentions.

Maki (after her reveal): Okay yeah, this explains everything. Tenko wants to spar with her!

Maki (if Tenko survived and it's currently chapter 5): AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA
