January: An old OC I completely forgot about until making this. He's based on old radio like things :}

February: Played Person 5 Royal last year & drew Joker cos idk he's neat. Fun fact, the same day I fully finished the game was the day Storm & a Spring came out. Also while grinding in the game, I had his Bidding & VoaC covers on repeat. Which was a bit annoying to do since they weren't on Spotify yet & YT on mobile didn't have looping then.

March: The Hawaii Part ii album cover :} I did post that eventually but that's the time I actually made it. Had listened to TME a couple of months before then which got me into the album, so months later I drew it cos why not? [Also the month Vol.1 fully released on everything. What's funny is my gallery for that day was a handful of memes I saved at 4am before I fell asleep. And then the next image saved is when I woke up which was a screenshot of the whiteboard in TfaR lol]

April: First main Jash art !!! And its not even with any of the songs from Vol. 1 lol. I had his Moss cover on repeat again & now that all of Vol. 1 was out, I drew Heart in some moss. Or really in the image from the video.

May: Lil animation I made of Heart with the song Don't Hit the Lights! Link to my post & the song can be found here :}. Still really like the song & even the drawings. Might remake em eventually idk

June: Sky/socialc1imb's Clue AU! I like murder mysteries & this one was real interesting so I drew it a lot lol. Might remake that one or one of the others I made at somepoint? It'll be a bit later if I do but ye

July: A redraw of a HMS piece I originally made back in May, based on the Three Wise Monkeys thing. I like the idea of it so I keep wanting to remake it.

August: I honestly can't remember if I posted that art or not. Actually yea I don't think I ever did PFFT. It's one of the few drawings I did of myself this year & its from CJs Not Perfect cover [as you can tell by the lyrics on it]. Also one of the very very few vent-ish arts I made. I like the background more than anything but its still neat ig?

September: Art for one of the best songs ever. I love Fine, I'm Fine its so good & I listened to it for like 70% of the 20+ hours it took me to make the drawing. Still proud of it so there's the sketch I drew on paper, the one on my tablet & then the final versions.

October: There was a lot from this month due to Jashtober. I still like this one lot & it wasn't insanely rushed so I picked this one to show lol.

November: I have no idea why I made a fun lil soul. I was having an identity crisis over my art style & ig decided to draw the guy who is a walking identity crisis/j

December: Same as September. One of my favorite songs ever was covered & released, so I made a drawing like everyone else lol.

Spy:

Sphee: the newest of the new. A literal baby who has no idea how to play. Embodiment of an f2p and honestly very adorable to see in the wild. Adorableness scale: infinity/10

Spo: more experience than a Sphee, still rather new though an still pretty inexperienced. Adorableness scale: 9/10

Spu: a decent Spy that needs more training. Adorableness scale: 7/10

Spi: good Spy but lacks in skill. Adorableness scale: 6/10

Spa: very good at Spy though needs to get more convincing when disguised. Adorableness scale: 4/10

Spy: THE Spy, an absolutely great player, bested by only one other. Adorableness scale: 2/10

S: The ultimate lifeform, unbeatable. Gets ubered, might have pocket Medic. Adorableness scale: 1/10

Spycrab: hon hon hon funny french crab!!!! Adorableness scale: 100/10

Sniper:

Shiper: Totally new at Sniper, most likely only has the confidence to go for fully charged body shots. Adorableness scale: 8/10

Spipper: A tad bit more experience, but still not too good. Still most likely mainly body shots. Adorableness scale: 7/10

Snip: Getting more confident, probably using a different rifle now. Misses a lot though. Adorableness scale: 6/10

Skyler: Wowie, this guy's good! 99% chance this one uses bazarr bargain. Adorableness scale: 5/10

Sniper: The Sniper. Awesome at headshotting. Beware of them though. Adorableness scale: 3/10

Spisser: jarate. EVERYWHERE. TOO good. Adorableness scale: 1/10

Huntsman: STOP THE ARROWS! GO PLAY MEDIEVAL MODE!! Adorableness scale: 0/10

Medic:

Meem: New to Medic. Either tries to constantly recreate the Über scene in Meet the Medic or pockets no one. Adorableness scale: 11/10

Meddy-Man: has now discovered the art of pocket Medic. Soldiers and Heavies will abuse this new player's innocence. Adorableness scale: 10/10

Meedick: despises teammates. Innocence ruined. Adorableness scale: 4/10

Med: doesn't hate team as much. Nicer, more willing to heal. Adorableness scale: 5/10

Madic: HATES Scouts. Also might have become a woman by now. Adorableness scale: 5/10

Medic: Heals everyone equally. Pretty nice. Adorableness scale: 6/10

Pocketee: Pocket Medic. Turned to dark side. Adorableness scale: 1/10

Egg: Sets up sentry nests in strange places. Doesn't build teleporters. Uses mainly the pistol. Adorableness scale: 14/10

Fearfulneer: started using teleporters. Spies will target these guys because while they're easy to kill, they still provide a small challenge. Adorableness scale: 10/10

Howdy im here from the ask box open post you reblogged, i wanted to pop in and say i really like how expressive your art is! Most of my drawings are just doodles of lil circle heads so i dont know like anything about art that's like. anatomically-correct, haha, but i DO know about facial expressions and yours are soo nice! Its subtle enough it feels realistic but its still manages to be so expressive! I only scrolled through your art blog for a little bit cause the art you drew of ash and pikachu really stood out to me as like oh WOW that EXPRESSION i gotta make my ask about that wowie zowie! Theres just something THERE that makes it feel so much more ALIVE and like WOW look at the WIZARD of ART over here breathing LIFE into a TWO-DIMENSIONAL IMAGE

honESTLY expressions are literally my favorite thing to draw Ever!! :'0 I love the concept of cartoony expressions of course, but subtle or "realistic" expressions are what I have the most fun with ;0; unfortunately that probably means a lot of my art ends up looking kinda similar (or has a specific Mood about it; everyone i draw always looks Mildly Concerned lol), but I like to hope that's okay :0 glad u liked the Pokemon art!! that one was just a fun little scribble so it surprised me that so many folks ended up liking it, haha!

oh gosh anatomy is harddddd lol - so I feel ya on that! really the best you can do is just keep plugging away at it. I definitely don't feel like i'm all that great at it myself, but consistent practice with it brought me ahead of where I used to be! so don't stop drawing, you got this! :'D

Mha style quirks for h/etalia characters :) shhh....SHHH...quiet down...SHHH this is a secret

Francis: I think he’d have a quirk similar to Monoma’s where he can copy and use quirks as he fights after touching someone. He can use only one at a time but can ‘store’ five for 5 minutes each. I like to think of him pretending to be hurt in order to touch whoever he’s sparring with *cougharthurcough* to get their quirk. It’s kinda cheating but who cares! The only classmates that can really beat him are those who have quirks where they can shoot things at him or where they can fight from afar to do damage that way otherwise he’ll use their powers against them :0 the worst thing that could happen to him though is that he runs out of time with all of his ‘borrowed’ quirks and now he has nothing to fight with at all...uh oh. If a teammate lets him touch them then he’s fine :)

Alfred: Uhhh Al can hulk out kinda but his quick is called ‘rodeo’ cause he becomes like...a bull. Like his upper half gets huge and he just fuckin bulldozes people down with no mercy. He holds back in training just cause he doesn’t want to hurt his friends cause he WILL cry if he does lmao but if it were a real fight he could easily knock someone out. He can carry his classmates with ease, lift heavy things without breaking a sweat, that kind of stuff! Pretty much the ultimate himbo of his class :) but he isn’t stupid he’s very good at coming up with strategies. You better go see him play football. It almost isn’t fair that he even gets to play cause he’s so strong but he tones it down to ‘play fair’...as fair as it can be :)

Laura: Laura is pretty much made of rubber! If she jumps off of a high surface she’ll bounce, if you hit her she’ll bounce back, if you shoot her she bullet will bounce back too but leave a bruise. She is definitely hero material! She can easily save people from crumbling buildings or from things falling on them cause she absorbs the blow. Her speed and punches arent fantastic but when whoever she’s fighting with gets tired after trying to punch her over and over, she can win with a few well aimed blows! Her weakness is heat for sure, she’ll start to melt kinda which is pretty painful so if fire is involved, she keeps her distance and works on crowd control

Vlad: (tw blood) Vlad can manipulate blood and wounds, which is a very scary quirk to have. If you don’t have wounds he can’t really do much other than lower or raise your blood pressure which is scary either way it if you have a cut or scrape he can manipulate it to turn into a huge gash that’ll bleed out quick. At the same time, he’s good to have on your team cause he can close wounds too and stop bleeding from occurring, it goes both ways. The only downside is that he has to be within a few feet of the person he wants to damage/heal so he has to get a bit too close for comfort. With his friends, he’s very kind and nurturing though!!! If you got a paper cut he’d fix it right up for you!! At the same time, he’s also gotten in trouble for widening other people’s paper cuts or skinned knees on purpose just cause he didn’t like them lmao

Arthur: Art is also dangerous, his quirk is that he can shoot acid out of glands on his wrists. (Yes Spider-Man is my inspiration here). He can shoot it a few meters! And it’s potent too like it’ll give you chemical burns if it touches you. He keeps his wrists bandaged up at all times unless he’s training or fighting just in case acid leaks out by accident. He’d feel terrible if he hurt someone like that, he did it to his mum once and flipped out even though it wasn’t a big deal to her. Art’s little brother Peter made him thick, fabric cuffs for his wrists with minion fabric...he wears them when his family comes to visit. When he fights or spars with classmates he is always annoyed when Francis borrows his quirk cause he’s terrified that he’ll hurt someone by accident. Art himself took a long time to effectively figure his quirk out cause it’s so strange, he knows that that frog slurper has no clue how to use it!!! Ugh!

Michelle: Michelle can essentially melt herself or parts of herself down into a liquidy sludge. She can move around as the sludge too. She can go through cracks in the ground, under doors, through the tiniest crack in a wall to get into a building, through vents, you name it! Her quirk is very helpful!! If an enemy stepped on her while she was in goop form, they’d slip and fall! Or if she gloop-ified her hand and stuck it in their eyes or face they’d be blinded and she could fight like that!! Her quirk isn’t really something she can use for hand to hand fighting but she’s still a useful teammate!! A scary looking side effect of her quirk is when she cries, her tears are just goopy green sludge :0 yuck. I mean- not yuck!!! Cool!! Haaa...

Antonio: Toni is pretty much Mrs Incredible. He’s stretchy and go a big ass so. Uh huh. He is a fantastic fighter, he knows his abilities well and the way he maneuvers himself around in whatever shape he’s taking always looks so practiced even if he’s literally a triangle or a parachute. He tangles enemies in his arms or sucker punches them from meters away (uh huh we’re using meters) and gosh dang!! He’s a hard hitter!! He is excited to be a hero :) he’s also a fantastic friend cause he can reach high places, unlock your car from the inside by sticking his hand in there, he can be a trampoline, dude whatever. His favorite pass time is tapping Arthurs shoulder in the hall from alllll the way down the hall from him with his long elastic arms lol. The amount of pranks this guy can pull is unlimited

Lovino: Lovino inhereted laser eyes from his father. His laser eyes are super powerful, he can cut through metal like cars or a person if he wanted to. He has the potential to be a great hero he’s just afraid of losing his freedom cause as a hero, the public eye is always on you. He joined the hero course with his brother because of the pressure from his grandpa so he’s very cold to his classmates cause he doesn’t really want to be there. Of course there’s a few that grow on him and he makes friends...shocker. Eventually, and you can already see it starting, he’ll have scars around his eyes from his quirk. His grandfather has it and his father had it too. The heat his quirk generates burns his own skin when he uses it so he tries not to use it outside of training and fighting. He wears sunglasses inside so people don’t look at his eyes...He’s a bit self concious about it even though he has very beautiful eyes :(

Feli: Feli did not inherently laser eyes instead he inhereted hypnotism. His quirk is weak compared to Lovi’s but as he’s gotten older, he’s strengthened himself a lot. If you look him in the eyes, he can make you do what he wants for a few minutes. He can only control two people at a time and he has to be close to them to do it but wowie, it can be scary to fight against him cause either you have to close your eyes or you just can’t look at him while you fight. Feli isn’t much of a fighter himself but if he can make others do it, he feels better about it lmao. He also wears sunglasses inside to avoid accidentally hypnotizing someone, he’d feel pretty bad about that

Roma: ^^^ Feli and Lovi’s grandpa who raised them. He was part of an original European pro-hero group. He, and his sons, all have eye related powers. Roma has laser vison, which Lovi inhereted. His other sons had some variant of laser vision amd X-ray vision. Feli’s hypnotizing eyes are a mix of his fathers eye related quirk and his mother’s hypnotizing quirk. Roma trained Lovi a lot but became frustrated with his grandson’s temper so he focused more on Feli. He loves his boys very much because they’re all he has left. All three of his sons are deceased and they didn’t have kids. Feli and Lovi’s dad was the eldest and his wife fled after his death. Roma is always smiling for his boys and the press but inside, he is still grieving. His laser vison is very powerful but it’s given him scars around his eyes, which itll eventually do for Lovi too. Lovi’s power is strong like his grandpas but Roma believes that his grandson is lazy and that he just isn’t training hard enough.

Yao: An original pro-hero who teaches young heroes now. He is more of a college level teacher but he does stop in to highschool level hero academies to substitute teach. His quirk is manipulating the dead. He can bring back three ghosts at a time and get them to use their quirks in a fight however, Yao becomes somewhat powerless as he controls the ghosts and admittedly, it takes a lot out of him to fight. But he’s still insanely popular cause watching him fight is mesmerizing, his skill and technique is so clean and practiced! He does demonstrations at hero academies to encourage students to be confident in their abilities as well as to never hold back in a real fight.

Gilbert: I envision Gil and Lud having quirks similar to Tenya and Tensei Iida. Gilbert has engines in his arms, making his punches bone breakingly hard omfg. He is Ludwig’s biggest fan, he’s always pushing him to be better, to train harder to fight harder. He’s always proud of him no matter what. They’re only 3 years apart and Ludwig is like a foot taller than him but he’s still a big brother!!!! Gil is very reckless so a hero career may not be something attainable for him just because he doesn’t listen and he often makes split second decisions that can/will get himself and others hurt. The plan is to start a hero trio group with Fran and Toni once they graduate but again, who knows how that’ll go

Ludwig: Like his brother, Lud also has engines but his are in his legs, making him insanely fast. He isn’t a fan of fighting hand to hand so he’s more likely to kick the shit out of someone or run around grabbing people to get them out of a dangerous area. Ludwig is only in the hero course because of his brother and he’s slowly coming to terms with the fact that he may not want to be a hero. That’ll change once he gets more experience in the field though! He’s never had so many friends before now, being surrounded by so many wanna-be-heroes encourages him more than anything! As he grows, he gets stronger and TALLER than most of his friends which is a shock to everyone. Ah yes...a growth spurt. Congrats nerd.

As for Czechoslovakia I have a looot of headcanons—

First of all he has 3 brothers, Austria, Hungary, and Weimar, who were all raised by Reichtangle and Austria-Hungary

Both were abusive, especially Reichtangle, and the abuse was mostly focused on Czechoslovakia as Reichtangle didn’t consider him a true son of his

He eventually got away from his family and became a pilot like he’d always dreamed of, fighting in both WWI and WWII before his plane was sabotaged and he crashed, which is what led to him being captured by TR (who’s actually Weimar but possessed by a demon, which is a whole different story)

He was eventually reunited with his family, Yugoslavia and their children (all the former Yugoslav countries, Czechia and Slovakia) but Yugoslavia had cheated on him after “believing he was dead” and left Czechoslovakia to take care of the children alone when he can’t back

As for the Mafia AU— gosh that’s an old one lmao

That story mostly focused on Czechia and Slovenia, Slovenia cane from a mafia family so didn’t really have a choice in joining— while Czechia worked for pretty much every criminal in town— Italy, the leader of the mafia, was the closest thing he had to a main boss though

Czechia lived on the streets, constantly doing drugs and drinking which is why he didn’t have the money for a home, all his cash went to one of those 2 things

While Slovenia clearly had money, and took a liking to Czechia so helped support him and eventually let him stay with him

Both of them eventually made Italy angry by not following his orders so they eventually had to leave town, barely managing to escape without being caught but successfully blending in their new home and living a normal life

Goal #1 Spend More Time Doing What I Love

Red alert people, RED ALERT. It was 6 degrees this morning when I woke up. SIX!!! That.Is.Chilly. The Girl and I were going to walk Lucy on the beach this morning but those plans have been scraped. Gaaaa. I think if its 6 degrees outside, all bets are off and you can most certainly declare it a pajama day. Whos with me on this?

Goal #2 Garden, Garden, Garden

Garden are done for the year. Yipee!

Goal #3 Plant an Orchard {Calling it Quits on this one.}

Lemon baby #3 is on the way and we are patiently awaiting her arrival.

Goal #4 Gussy Up the Potting Shed Done!

I gussied up the potting shed at our old house, but I would like to add some sort of potting station to the backyard here somewhere, but Im not sure where I would put it yet.

I did come across this photo on Author Susan Branchs Instagram page though of a picture she tooth at Colonial Williamsburg. Isnt it cute? I think I need one of those.

Goal #5 Grow Enough Extra Vegetables, Eggs and Flowers to Earn $1500 at my little roadside vegetable stand.

It was totally my intention to grow a ton of fruits and vegetables to sell at the farm-stand when I made my list of goals for 2019 last winter, but then we moved. So, that whole goal was sort of a bust. I do miss it though.

Goal #6 Finish Every Single Unfinished Rug Hooking Project in My Pattern Bin + 10 Things from back Issues of Magazines/Books Ive Been Meaning to Make.

While I didnt add any new finished hooked rug pieces in my Etsy shop this past week, I did hook 4 totally new rugs {1 of which will become a kit and 2 will be offered as patterns} as well as hand dyed a bunch of wool {that I was able to get listed in my Etsy shop}.

I have decided to go back to my old schedule of only listing new hooked rugs items on the first Friday of every month for next year as it seems less stressful to me. It allows me more time to hook, rather than stopping every few days to take photo, write up description and then post a single piece online. Doing it all in one big swoop seems less chaotic to me.

39 down, 13 recipes to go. We tried 2 new recipes this week. 1 was a dud and the other I will share on Tuesday. And its a good one!

We finished the roman shades for the kitchen nook and kitchen window. I plan on taking a break from making roman shades for the next month so I can finish making kits for my Etsy shop and paint out the entire kitchen area as well as finish a couple of art projects for the walls.

Goal #17 52 Dates with the HH {44 down, 8 to go}

The HH and I went on 2 date days this past week and one of them was to the Sabbathday Lake Shaker Village for their Shaker Christmas Fair and it was so overwhelming, we left after 5 minutes.

Overwhelming in the sense that although we could tell there was going to be a lot of people at the event by the distance we had to walk to the village, what we werent expecting was that once we walked in the doors of the trustees office {where the craft fair was being held}, it was SHOULDER to SHOULDER.

Like, being at a rock concert crowded. The HH didnt even make it 2 feet in before walking out and it took me nearly 5 minutes to get from the entrance and through 3 rooms and back out the door again without even being able to look or pick up anything it was so crowded. It was nuts. And totally not in the calm, welcoming Shaker spirit and all we wanted to do was leave. And so we did.

I do want to go back though at some point to visit the museum, but it will have to be an ordinary weekday with nothing on the event calendar, thats for sure.

Hunger Games Tarot Deck

Guys. I want to design a Hunger Games tarot deck. I think it’d be a fun project. I’ve spent some time deciding which characters, events, and symbols to cast as each card of the Major Arcana and the court cards for the suits. I’ll put my matches with explanations under a Read More. If you like the Hunger Games, like Tarot, or like both (wowie!), let me know what you think, what your first impressions are, etc. 

0.           The Fool – Prim

o   Like the Fool, Prim represents innocence and embarking on new journeys in uncharted territory. She grows and matures through the books like the Fool does through the story of the Major Arcana. She protects and is emotionally supported by her animal companions as the Fool has his dog in the traditional card. She quickly learns the skills of medicine (the Fool as he represents personal growth) and takes the risk to become a medic on the front lines without fear.

I.               The Magician – Cinna

o   Like the Magician, Cinna represents creative power and the ability to manifest ideas of the spiritual realm in the physical realm. He can do anything, and his art speaks with a higher message. He is optimistic and a man of action who chose to take on a difficult District for his designing because he knew he could transform it.

II.              The High Priestess – Mags

o   Like the High Priestess, Mags represents wisdom, serenity, and a link to the subconscious/spiritual side. She protects and guides Finnick and Annie in District 4 and then Katniss and others in the Quarter Quell as a grandmotherly figure. Due to her speech impediment, she is not always understood in verbal communication, so she communicates in other ways, often in leading by example. She has the energy of a higher plane. The High Priestess also can represent a life change and reminder to not take things for granted, like when Mags sacrifices herself and Finnick loses her. This moment is also a puzzle-like sign to Katniss that the rebels are helping her even though she is not consciously aware of it.

III.            The Empress – Effie

o   Like the Empress, Effie represents beauty, abundance, and femininity. She becomes a motherly figure to Katniss and Peeta over the course of the books. She is nurturing and caring for them. The close bond she and Katniss eventually form and how she is missing through most of Mockingjay only to return at the end, seemingly spending the whole time in the wilderness on the run on her own, is like the new ideas and ways of being represented by the Empress because it is unexpected for her character in the beginning. She is creative and vibrant in her self-expression.

IV.            The Emperor – President Snow

o   Like the Emperor, President Snow represents authority, and rigid structure. He has a family he provides for and protects. He is pragmatic and manipulative, using any means to achieve his ends, and he has successfully held the presidency for a long time. He also has his mundane passions like the rose garden. He is of high status and requires a lot from people in order to be impressed. Reversed especially, the Emperor represents an overly dominating leader.

V.             The Hierophant – President Coin

o   Like the Hierophant, President Coin represents group conformity and tradition. Reversed, the Hierophant highlights the restrictive nature of tradition. Coin’s rule of District 13 is like a religion with strict rules and lacking in individuality or frivolity.

VI.            The Lovers – Finnick and Annie

o   Finnick and Annie are the one uncontested, overtly loving, soul mate-type couple in the books. The Lovers represent good communication, which Finnick and Annie have, as well as trust, strength, and confidence in a relationship. The Lovers also represents choices, choosing whether to stay in a situation or leave it, and that is a choice Finnick and Annie have to make every day when they are put into difficult situations where their love becomes a tool to be used against them.

VII.          The Chariot – Johanna

o   Like the Chariot, Johanna represents conquest and control over one’s life. While Finnick chose to stay with Annie despite the difficulties it brought him, Johanna chose to go. There is no one left that she loves, but she is free and in control of herself. She is determined and disciplined, training for the Capitol invasion in Mockingjay even though she is still recovering from being tortured, even training in the rain despite her hydrophobia. She becomes stronger by overcoming every challenge thrown her way.

VIII.         Strength – Gale

o   Like the card, Gale’s strength is a controlled strength. He is passionate but patient. He has drive but also compassion. He has both physical and mental strength, which empowers him to be a good leader. He works by hunting and mining to provide for his family and Katniss’s when she is in the 74th Games. He helps train Katniss, Peeta, and Haymitch before the Quarter Quell, and he helps 800 District 12 citizens survive the bombing. He led people to break down the fence at the weak point and keeps them alive in the wilderness for three days. He is a rebel leader in District 13. Strength as a card represents the balance of an animalistic nature and taming your inner beasts, and Gale has a truly balanced sense of strength.

IX.            The Hermit – Haymitch

o   Like the Hermit reversed, Haymitch begins the books as the representation of withdrawal and isolation. He is lonely. But over the course of the trilogy, he becomes more of a hermit by positive choice. Not withdrawing in order to not be hurt, just because it is more comfortable in the quietness. He is Katniss’s Mentor in and out of the arena, guiding her through life’s challenges by offering words of wisdom and sparking introspection.

X.              The Wheel of Fortune – Reaping Ball

o   Like the Wheel of Fortune, the balls of tickets at the Reapings represent chance, luck, and destiny. It is a weighted chance and unfair due to the economic incentive of tesserae, but so is life. And no matter how many times a name is in the ball, it has at least some chance to be selected. Anything can happen. And every year, the names change, but the balls are the same, and ever-present, representing the circle of life. The Wheel of Fortune also represents a turning point and when reversed can represent bad luck or a lack of control.

XI.            Justice -  President Paylor

o   The only just and fair president Panem has had in a long time, Commander Paylor, like Justice, represents balance and an awareness of the long term affects of decisions. She can see clearly the state of Panem as a country because she is from the Districts. She is not biased by a Capitol or District 13 view, but knows the truth of District life and the needs of the people. She is able to rule with just law.

XII.           The Hanged Man – Peeta

o   Like the Hanged Man, Peeta is the king of self-sacrifice. Almost to a fault as would be represented in the reversed Hanged Man’s martyrdom and delay. Peeta is rather shy in the beginning. He holds himself back into order to support others from the shadows. He’s a person of words, not action. He willingly sacrifices himself, valuing Katniss’s life over his own.

XIII.         Death – Rue with flowers

o   Like the Death card, Rue and her death scene represent transition and the cycle of beginnings and endings. She was so young and full of bright potential, but she died as the Games’ audience knew she would, as the rules of the Games mandated. There is no escaping Death. Her death scene, as Katniss made it in a memorial and as it was televised, sparked a transition in District attitude. It incited people to rise up and avenge her, to fight against the Capitol and take action. It is a turning point, the beginning for the rebellion in the Districts.

XIV.         Temperance – Katniss

o   Like Temperance, Katniss represents moderation and patience. Katniss is adaptive to her environments and circumstances. She gathers information before taking action and can take that action in a mindful way. With friends both in District 12 and the Capitol, she is a bridge between the higher and lower planes. She understands the needs and fears of people and both sides. She is at peace in the quiet forest and likes things simple and functional. Temperance also represents a life change following a re-evaluation of your priorities, which Katniss goes through as the revolution grows, her goals changing from protecting herself and her family to protecting all of Panem.

XV.          The Devil – Caesar

o   Like the Devil, Caesar Flickerman is the embodiment of the Capitol values of materialism and excess. He is overly made up with flashing outfits and hair. His face is altered with cosmetic surgery, which seems even more compulsory in Capitol culture than our own, tying into the Devil representing addiction and bondage. Caesar and the rest of the Capitol are bound by their shallow culture, unwilling to take the risk to escape it even though they could. Like a vampire, Caesar profits off the sensationalization of the Games and the stories of the Tributes being sent to their deaths.

XVI.         The Tower – The Bombing of 12

o   The Tower represents a sudden disaster leading to a major change. It represents physical destruction as well as a realization of truth that throws you from a place of comfort when that comfort was built on something false. District 12 was a home but it was never really safe. Its demise was terrible, but those who survived were freed and able to find a new home in District 13 and in the revolution.

XVII.       The Star – Katniss as the Mockingjay

o   Like the Star, Katniss as the Mockingjay represents hope and inspiration. She is renewal in that she calls for an overturning of the old, stagnant, corrupt government of the Capitol in favor of one run by the people. She gives people the spirit to stand even in the darkest and most miserable of times. She gives herself hope, even, in that she did not believe she had such an effect, but she really does. By persevering through struggle, her image transforms Panem.

XVIII.      The Moon – Lavinia the Avox

o   The Moon is a card of illusion and insecurity. It is fear from the past projected onto the present or future. Katniss blames herself for Lavina’s capture by the Capitol. She and Gale did not help Lavinia and the man she’d been with in the woods outside 12, but the truth is that they could not. Katniss fears Lavinia holds a grudge, and the memory haunts her. “You never forget the face of the person who was your last hope.” Katniss has to get over that guilt and get over her fear of inaction lest it distract her in the Games. Lavinia herself is also a great mystery as we do not know who she was before attempting to flee, why she fled, who the man was, or how they knew about 13 if that is where they were going. Peeta also covers for Katniss’s recognition by saying she looks like Delly Cartwright, a deception.

XIX.         The Sun – The Buck Outside 13

o   Katniss and Gale are the first hunters the woods outside District 13 ever experience. They approach a large buck, but it does not fear them. It does not know to fear them. It has lived its life in peace. With the sun shining on it, it is a symbol of vitality as well as positivity. It is pure. Hunting in the woods with Gale is also the only time Katniss ever feels herself, relaxed, and happy. District 12 is gone, but she is able to have that experience again in District 13, representing how the warmth of the sun can be found wherever she goes, even after hardship and loss.

XX.           Judgement – Commander Boggs

o   Like Judgement, Commander Boggs represents self-reflection and Katniss’s inner calling. He works for Coin, but he can see her deviousness and helps Katniss in her mission to kill Snow even though it is not Coin’s plan. He is mature and a good judge of right and wrong. He allows Katniss and Gale to get away with putting themselves in more dangerous but more effective situations while filming propos, putting up minimal resistance when they disobey Coin. When he tells Katniss of Coin’s true motives behind sending Peeta to kill her, but reassuring her that he will see to it that she lives a long life, he brings her to the full understanding of her role as the Mockingjay while also reminding her of the worth of her life. She can’t keep sacrificing herself for the cause or for others. He is representative of rebirth and an epiphany moment when he names Katniss in charge of the Holo.

XXI.         The World – A Victor’s Wreath

o   The World represents the completion of a journey, accomplishment, and personal growth. It is fulfillment of goals worked hard for. A Victor goes through so many trials and hardships between training and the Games, but once they have their crown, they can relax. The nightmare is behind them, and they can live out the rest of their life in peace, having learned and grown from their experiences. Victors later become Mentors. They travel around Panem in their Victory tour and return regularly to the Capitol. They pass on knowledge to the next rounds of Tributes.

Cups  - Emotions - Water

        Page – The Prep Team

o   Like the Page of Cups, the prep team (Venia, Flavius, and Octavia) are showy, flamboyant, and have a keen sense of style. They are emotionally vibrant, being greatly excited to be dressing Katniss before the Quell announcement and crying over her afterward. Their role in Katniss’s life causes her to think heavily on her emotions and attitudes about people in the Capitol. They are childlike from Katniss’s perspective and eager to please, always wishing to make Katniss look her best.  

        Knight – Finnick

o   Like the Knight of Cups, Finnick is the intersection of Fire and Water. He has a magnetic charisma and bright personality, but he is also extremely protective of those close to him and a romantic. He puts on a show and comes off as a peacock, but underneath it all, he is actually very clever. He is aware of people’s motives and goals and uses words moreso than swords as his weapon.

        Queen – Annie

o   Like the Queen of Cups, Annie is associated with the ocean and tides, often lost in her own head. Like the tides, she has her highs and lows. She gives the impression of being somewhere far away in her mind and not totally present in the moment. Through Finnick, she knows everyone’s secrets. She’s beautiful, loving, dreamy, and mysterious, though easily distracted and, although very likable, can be isolated without Finnick to help her feel at ease around other people she isn’t close with.

        King – Mr. Everdeen

o   Like the King of Cups, Katniss and Prim’s father, Mr. Everdeen, was a man who valued intelligence, the arts, and communication. A teacher, he taught Katniss to hunt, to craft bows and arrows, and to swim. Crafting bows and arrows requires great precision and technique. He was a singer respected by the mockingjays. And he was a lover and good husband, good enough to earn the love of Mrs. Everdeen and for her to leave her upper-class life to be with him. As Katniss works to keep her family alive, her father’s memory is her guide and her rock.

Swords – Thought - Air

Page – Wiress

o   Like the Page of Swords, Wiress has an eye for natural order and can discern fine details of a situation, like noticing the chink in the forcefield in the Training Center. She is dreamy, flighty, and easily distracted, often trailing off in the middle of sentences. But she is a genius and inventor and can focus when needed. Her energy is both awkwardly anxious and calmly assuring.  

        Knight – Thresh

o   Like the Knight of Swords, Thresh has great integrity and a sense of righteousness. He is a strategist and does well for himself in the 74th Games until Cato kills him. His values are important to him, but so are his end goals, so he spares Katniss’s life in honor of Rue but makes it clear that this is a one-time deal. He shows more by his actions than his words. He has a noble energy and is young but rugged. If he has fear, he does not show it.

        Queen –  Enobaria

o   Like the Queen of Swords, Enobaria is an accomplished woman who won’t let you forget it. She sharpened and guilded her teeth to be reminiscent of how she won her Games. To be a Victor, one must be both physically strong and skilled as well as mentally sharp. Unlike the other Victors, Enobaria smiles and looks enthusiastic when the Tributes of the Quell join hands at the interview, showing an underlying disposition for kindness, though at other times, she is mostly serious and focused. Her presence fills a room with authority and dignity. She knows who she is and is proud.

        King – Beetee

o   Like the King of Swords, Beetee is intellectual, inventive, and deeply involved with science, mathematics, and philosophy. He is compassionate and considerate. When he designs new weapons for Katniss and her team, he takes each person’s needs and personality into account, not just what would make a good weapon but what would make a good weapon for them. He is objective and fair with a grandfatherly energy.   

Pentacles – (Mockingjay Pins) – Money – Earth

        Page – Madge

o   Like the Page of Pentacles, Madge is a comfortable presence. She is highly educated, and as the Mayor’s daughter, she has access to additional resources like piano lessons and information about the politics of other Districts. She is open to different sorts of people, befriending Katniss when others were intimidated by her, and understands relationships well. Her comment to Gale about looking nice for the Capitol on Reaping Day was unclear in if it was a joke or sincere, but its intentional ambiguity in her tone shows how she understands that her being Reaped is unlikely but not impossible. She’s aware of the imbalances of their culture.

        Knight – Cato

o   Like the Knight of Pentacles, Cato has a plan for success and is determined to see it through. As leader of the career pack, he takes on a lot of responsibility but is comfortable with it. He’s a natural leader though a little bossy. He is protective of those close to him. He goes about things in the simple, traditional way, the way he was taught in his Career upbringing. He was raised for the Games, so he knows how to win them, with pragmatism and hard work.  

        Queen – Portia

o   Like the Queen of Pentacles, Portia is one to take care of those in her charge and deeply connected to her partner, Cinna. They work on the Parade outfits together, working through the night and bouncing ideas off each other. She is a woman of luxurious style. She is most involved during major festivities as Peeta’s stylist. Outside of that, she is still encouraging and reassuring to him in a motherly fashion.

        King – Plutarch

o   Like the King of Pentacles, Plutarch is a businessman who sees the big picture and works towards his end one step at a time. His sights are set high, and he has the personality to fit in with Presidents Snow, Coin, and Paylor, working his way through the ranks and maintaining a high position even as rule of Panem changes hands.

Wands – Arrows – Fire

        Page – Cressida

o   Like the Page of Wands, Cressida is creative and visionary and really knows what she’s doing. She knows exactly how to shoot a propo, from script to setting to shot angle to editing, for it to deliver the intended message. When she makes something, it is of the highest quality. Compared to other Capitolites, she is down to earth. She is a rebel who left the Capitol even though she was not in immediate danger; she was just inspired by the Mockingjay and saw the corruption and restriction of the Capitol, which did not mesh with her free spirit.

        Knight – Darius

o   Like the Knight of Wands, Darius is bold and wild. For a Peacekeeper especially, he is audacious, telling Katniss he’d trade a kiss for a squirrel, but that was a deal because his kisses are worth two squirrels. He is high spirited, but this can sometimes get him into trouble as he does not always consider what is best for himself, like when he tried to protect Gale from Thread’s whipping and was made an avox for it.

        Queen – Hazelle Hawthorne

o   Like the Queen of Wands, Hazelle Hawthorne keeps a sense of harmony around. She is incredibly resilient and patient, raising her children after her husband’s death all on her own, and keeps a realistically positive attitude. She is a mediator, accepting food from Katniss even knowing Gale is too proud to take the help but does so in a way that keeps the peace. Even through poverty and hardship, she is elegant and poised.

        King – Mayor Undersee

o   Like the King of Wands, Mayor Undersee values the words of his people. He worked to make District 12 a safer, more harmonious place by decreasing public punishments for crimes. He seems to ignore the existence of the Hob and regularly buys strawberries for Katniss because he is aware that many more of his people would starve to death without such bends of the law. In this way, he is progressive and generous.

Journalism!Taehyung

so taehyung is basically like THE photographer for the newspaper. Like he’s always at all the events all the time and like every athlete and club president knows him

he always has a camera bag with him, to catch anything that could happen like oh? u say wrestling is having a match right now in the gym?

taehyung’s on it

people are always like “how do u make it to literally everything” and taehyung is out here with a huge smile like “i just love watching all the cool things that happen in this school! lemme tell you hoW COOL oUR S CHOOL IS”

and he’ll go on long tangents about everything he’s gotten to document and do photo essays of and the cool pictures he’s edited and he’s just a big ol’ cutie who’s fascinated by everything and wants to show the world every cool thing that happens

he’s probably cried bc some of his photos couldn’t fit on a spread and the editor in chief was like “all these pics are good but like we can’t put everything in...” and he’ll just be so sad that he couldn’t showcase everything but he’ll be like I’ll find a way! and he’ll stay after school for hours editing and try to make everything work while keeping a flow

and when he gets  it done he’s like “seE? it works”

and everyone on the staff just loves this big ol puppy!

and like ur probably staring at him a bit too much while he’s taking photos because he just looks so happy and he’s glowing and you’re like “wOwie” but then he just like looks your way and gives u this big boxy grin and you awkwardly look back at your camera and keep shooting but your heart is like !!!

and like u keep kinda stealing glances at taehyung but ur friend jimin is talking to you over the headset and telling you to pay attention because your shots are wacky and you’re like “s-sorry,,,”

after the game you go to get food with jimin and your heart is still kinda fluttering bc wow! a cute boy! smiled at you and you’re telling jimin about it but he’s like “lots of people go after taehyung :/” and you’re like “oh :/” so you kind of give up on it

fast forward about a week and you’re like stressing about a video about the communications department that you still haven’t finished and oh god the final draft is due the next day but you still need one more interview, but your last person bailed on you so you’re like

running to find someone to get an interview with

and you’re definitely starting to panic

and u run into someone and accidentally knock them over and you’re like ‘oH god i’m so sor ry”

and u just hear like the cutest and m ost angelic laugh

and u look down to see who u knocked over and it’s taehyung and you’re like “oOh no”

and you’re a blushing mess and you just keep apologizing to him and honestly you sound like you’re so overwhelmed that you might cry and taehyung is like

o h,,, my god,, please don’t cry

so taehyung is just like “hey it’s okay I’m fine!” and he gives you that boxy smile and your heart

and you finally calm down a little but you’re still like “o h god i still need an interview” and taehyung is like “for what? :0″ and you’re like “i gotta get a last minute interview for my video over communications...”

and taehyung is like “hey! i’m in journalism and that’s communications! i could help you out!”

and he kinda drags you back to the broadcasting room and sits himself down in the interview chair and you’re still kind of starstruck by him and also how he’s just,, so forward,,,,

but you get your interview done and taehyung just has! so many interesting things to say and you can tell he’s super passionate about what he does! and it’s exciting

at the end you get an amazing interview and you’re relieved that it turned out so well and you keep thanking taehyung and he’s like “it’s no problem! i’m glad i could help” and he’s always so smilely and you keep staring at h is, fa ce,,,

even though you finish your video, you guys just keep talking about journalism and getting news out and you end up sitting there for like an hour just being like wow! journalism and he tells you about how he wants to become a part of something big and show the world how cool everything can be and how not everything is terrible and it’s just so

heartwarming

eventually he’s just like “hey! we’ve been at school for a while how about we go get food? i really like talking to you!”

and you’re like oH wow okay yeah that sounds like fun

so you guys gather all your stuff and taehyung takes you to this cute little cafe and he just takes your hand and is like “this place is really nice! i like to edit here”

and you’re like yo u are h olding m y hand

but you just let him because even though you’ve only actually talked to him for like an hour you’re just really comfortable with him? so you just let him

and y’all order and sit down kind of in the back corner and he’s just all smiles and good times and you have a really fun night with him!

he’s just a big ol sweetie

but you kind of tell yourself to not get in too deep and you're kind of like “he’s probably just,,,, nice to everyone, it’s fine, it’s okay”

he takes you home at the end of the night and he’s like “hey! lemme give you my number so we can hang out more!”

so you hand him your phone and he types in his number and he fuckin puts his name in as taetae with the cutest dog emoji and you’re like

after this, the two of you become really close friends. he always takes you to events and if u need help with an interview he’ll always be there to get people to come and it’s just an all around good time

one day taehyung texts you like “hey, wanna go to this cool art event ;)” and you’re thinking that it’ll be an event that he wants to photograph so you’re like “yeah! sounds like fun” and taehyung sends you like a million heart emojis with a message that says “i’ll pick u up at 5″

(which at this point you’re probably super used to the emoji spam)

so you get ready in something kinda casual and wait til 5

and boY does he show up at 5

you get a text and it’s like “hey! im here” and you open the door and he’s all dressed up with like a nice button up and hes holding flowers and you’re like “w hat” and he’s like.., .,., h ey

and you’re wearing shorts and a tshirt and you’re like “taehyung,,,, im so underdressed also,,, why,,,”

and taehyung is really cute and blushing and he’s like “i ve liked you for a while now,, and i thought you,,,,,,, knew,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,”

an d at this point you’re both like blushing and kinda awkward but it’s cute you’re cute

you’re like “why didn’t you tell me that this was.. a date”

and taehyung is just lik e “i thought the emojis made it clear!”

so you’re like “okay let me dress up a lil nicer then” but taehyung grabs your hand before you can go inside and he’s like “no! you look perfect let’s go”

and he drags you out into his car and drives out into the city to this little art gallery and he takes you out to dinner and it’s really cute you guys do that thing where you brush hands when you’re walking and eventually taehyung just takes ur hand and gives you the biggest smile and you’re like ye ah i’m so dead for this bo y he s so dam n cute

you two are at a little park next to a pond and it’s getting pretty late, but you two are just laying on the grass and no one is around and the stars are out it’s so cute

and you’re all blushy and it’s cute trust me this is adorable

and whenever the new issue of the newspaper comes out you’re like “chECK out this AMAZING NEWSPAPER that my BEAUTIFUL and TALENTED BOYFRIEND, KIM TAEHYUNG, worked on” and taehyung will do the same like when he sees you on the broadcast he will 100% start screaming like “LOOK AT HOW AMAZING MY SIGNIFICANT OTHER IS”

Saving A Piece Of Her Legacy: Blue Diamond

I don’t think anyone was expecting an appearance from Blue Diamond, certainly not this soon in the Bomb if she were to appear. But my god did she appear, and my god is she gorgeous

Shout out to those killer diamond-shaped pupils

The most startling information we learn from BD’s musing is her connection with Pink Diamond, however brief of an idea we got from it. BD is openly weeping over what we’ve now been told is PD’s grave, and Greg questions if the two were close. Her response: ‘Very’. Even Blue Pearl, obediently bowing to her Diamond, looks up a bit at the question. You can choose to interpret that as her also wondering the answer, or thinking more along the lines of ‘bitch are you seriously asking if my Diamond was close with Pink Diamond’

‘They were the cutest couple in the galaxy humans are so dense’

She’s both surprised and touched that Greg, a human, is able to relate to how she feels. Remember that gems in general see themselves as a superior being; humans are just another species out in the galaxy whose home planet they conquered. They occupy, decimate, and discard planets on the daily. It’s unlikely they take much time to consider the planets’ inhabitants on their level in any capacity. Rose didn’t. It took Greg for her to realize their significance as something more than a plaything. And by the way BD reacts to Greg understanding the feeling of losing someone precious, she doesn’t consider it often, either

Clearly the Diamonds were all aware of the plan to destroy the planet, in Yellow Diamond’s case even looking forward to it. But BD is hesitant. She expresses regret, that perhaps humanity doesn’t deserve such a fate. Though we aren’t aware yet of her role in the war. Up until now it was safe to say she was on Homeworld’s side physically, but this episode has cast doubt on what her true feelings were on the matter. Maybe she was always in PD’s corner in her heart, and simply couldn’t muster up the courage to abandon the security of Homeworld as well. Maybe she didn’t believe the Crystal Gems would win the war, and didn’t want to be on the losing side of things. Maybe the war would have ended much more quickly if the CGs had a Diamond on their side. So many maybes

The Gems and Hesitance

Once again the gems learn too late that promising to be open and honest with Steven but not following through has extreme consequences. I understand that they’re only trying to protect him, I really do. The revelation that his mother murdered someone is a lot to process at any age, much less at 14. Rose was not perfect, no matter how they speak about her, no matter what picture Greg paints for him. She did what she needed to in order to preserve the planet, her life, and the lives of her friends. And they didn’t want Steven to have to deal with the pain of knowing that, to carry that burden the way they do

But on the flip side of this, Steven is absolutely right when he says he has a right to know these things. It’s all or nothing. They cannot build up her memory as a flawless being without accompanying it with the very real mistakes she made and the rash actions she took. I’m not saying they should have dropped the ‘your mom killed a chick’ bombshell on an 8 year old; I’m saying they should have humanized Rose to Steven. He feels like she sits on a towering pillar, unmovable, unflappable, a legacy he can never hope to reach let alone surpass. And this has done horrible things to his confidence and his perspective of her, going so far as to admit that he feels like a bad replacement for his mom in the gems’ lives, and that he has complicated feelings about her in general

And then recent events began chipping away at Rose’s pedestal. The illusion of perfection that Steven (and the audience) had seen her as is being destroyed, starting around WNTT and progressing up to the revelation of her shattering PD. And Steven hasn’t been able to cope. The gems, his trusted guardians, are now up for questioning again. Rose has become the ultimate culmination of his butterflies (from Mindful Education). Her pillar is crashing down. She will cease to be the definition of perfection, of goodness that Steven built her up to be, and when your definition of everything good is proven to be false, what can you turn to? Humanity is flawed, he’s learned this firsthand. Gems are flawed as well. The Diamonds are far from perfect. Steven cannot cope

This isn’t to say he won’t come to terms with this. But what would truly help is the gems being honest as they promised they would, telling him what he wants to know (in a careful, controlled way) rather than keeping everything a secret and risking him learning things in their rawest form, no buffer. Because time and time again, that’s how he’s learned things. Amethyst’s origins. Garnet being a fusion. Pearl’s position in Homeworld society. Rose killing PD. Learning these types of things the way he has is scarring him. He learns where Amethyst came from, and he immediately has to watch Pearl and Amethyst fight. He learns that Garnet is a fusion through her being forcefully broken apart. He learns the purpose of pearls on Homeworld from Peridot treating Pearl like dirt. He learns Rose shattered PD from a ruby who later proceeds to nearly kill him. If he had learned these things in a calmer manner, through a family sit down with tea and hugs, he would have been better off. Certain things would still be hard to handle, but he would know that the gems were here to support him, that they love and care for him enough to intrust him with such information

And they do, my god do they love and care for him. They love him enough to keep certain things a secret until a special occasion (Garnet’s plans to tell him about her being a fusion on his birthday). They care for him enough to keep the painful things about their past a secret, because they don’t want to burden him. Pearl and Amethyst don’t want him to know about their pasts because they fear it will mar his view of them. They don’t want Rose to seem like anything beyond perfect so her memory is preserved for him. They do what they do out of love, not malice. I discussed this whole thing very briefly back here so I consider all of the above some further context on that, coupled with another several handfuls of episodes and plot under my belt

(Rereading that made me realize that the gems still have a lot of progress to make on this front)

Misc Bits

Garnet fearing being seen by BD is a startling reminder that Homeworld is still not aware that the Crystal Gems are around. Peridot never sold them out to YD. Jasper hasn’t been in communication with Homeworld since her arrival. Their existence is still quiet and a secret. But it looks like that’s not going to last for much longer

Pearl’s continued negative reaction at PD’s death being mentioned is extremely concerning. She keeps curling up. Her hands cover her mouth and she shakes. Garnet looks to her in concern during Back To The Moon, and outright states this episode that the topic upsets her. I’m fully convinced Pearl was witness to PD’s death and has some PTSD from it; it’ll be interesting to see how she played into that event, whether as strictly a bystander, or an active participant

The fuckin color choices in this show are phenomenal, I go on and on about this all the time like in WNTT and MG because I just adore the way the show handles color but let me bring it up again. The contrast between the pink and the green in this entire scene and Steven’s ‘dream’ is so pleasant to look at, add in the gentle gray and pinks of the mountain and the pale blues and whites of the sky and my god do the art directors know what they’re doing

Wowie it has been a while since I last put together a manga review. Honestly, I missed this, it has been too long. I have not held back on reading manga, just, finding time to write and to write something half decent has been somewhat of a challenge.

This is the second time that I am reading Ultimate Venus and once again I am left with certain impressions that are hard not feel. This is not a spoiler free review, but not an all-inclusive review either. There is enough spoiler, which will give away quite a bit of the story, although quite a bit of it is guessable and obvious anyway.

About:

When Yuzu’s mother dies she becomes an orphan and is afraid that she will be on her own and is aiming to earn enough money to move back into the apartment that she had been evicted out of, the one she had shared with her mother. Until then she needs to find a place to sleep. Settling on a park for the first night, she is shocked when a guy disturbs her. He claims to be her grandmother’s secretary and that she needs to go with him. What will happen when Yuzu meets the grandmother she has never met before? Will she be able to keep up with her grandmother while not falling in love with the secretary?  Or will she fall short not meeting their standards and does she really want what they are offering?

My Thoughts:

This was a quick read which was completed in one sitting. It’s not a hard or complicated read by any stretch of the imagination and is quite clearly a harem romance. It followed the pretty basic plot line with a plain (but is actually gorgeous) girl, hot guys falling for the girl as they embark on multiple love triangles while the girl only sees the one guy and that one guy has a tormented past making it so that he can’t be with the girl. Oh yes, did I mention they have met before?

Okay, on a serious note, I am just commenting on a general story pattern here, not bashing it. When I am in the mood, I really enjoy those cliche plot lines and I have now read this manga twice and in two different moods.

I enjoyed the art style throughout the manga. The story’s pacing was decent even if it was a tad predictable. Although, there were some twists and turns that I genuinely did not expect or see coming.

As for the actual characters, I like how they were done. Each added their own dimension to the manga and I love some of them while loathing others. I always love it when I am made to actually care for a fictional person.

Yuzu has a lot to deal with and the way she does handle it all just goes to show that she is a strong character. She grew quite nicely throughout the manga but the ending kind of ruined her growth for me. In the end, all her progress and growth was basically cheapened and just made it seem as if she had been ‘moulded’ rather than have had her own personal growth.

My favourite character: The neighbor

Surprisingly my favourite character is really a minor character who had so few scenes and was really only there to help the plot move from A to B. Yet his concern for Yuzu is genuine and he had no ulterior motives at all. Plus, his facial expressions and reactions were just so cute.

My least liked character: The Grandmother

Her selfishness was to the extreme. Her actions and choices I still can not accept. Even though at the end were simply explained away as ‘for her granddaughter’s sake’. She had no contact with her daughter or granddaughter at all until her daughter had died and her granddaughter literally had nowhere else to go. She plotted to set up Yuzu and Kagami right from the very beginning, assuming that it was her place to set up challenges just to make their bond grow stronger. The grandmother went as far as to force Kagami to marry her. Seriously, what the hell. She drove the two of them into a corner again and again and kept hurting both of them. All in the hopes that they would connect and rise above all the trouble and somehow make all of it work.

Really, I can not see this as a loving grandmother. In order to break her granddaughter’s connections to the past, she ordered that the remaining things that Yuzu had from the time she lived with her mother, be thrown away. How callous can one be? She ordered it because she felt that Yuzu was too attached to her mother. A mother which had just died not even a month previously. Plus she arranged for three potential marriage partners for the poor girl, but wait, they were never serious partners, no, they were just there to create a trial for the duo to overcome and strengthen their bonds with one another. Once again, how cruel? Not just for the duo, but the ‘fiance’s’ and their families who got caught up in it just to be fodder for someone else’s scheme. Yet, as mentioned previously, Kagami was always the intended partner, so really there had been four candidates for the arranged marriage. Thus, with Yuzu arguing the arranged fiance’s and then it all being okay because her grandmother had been scheming to set her up with the one she loves. That is just not okay.

In the end, all is not only forgiven but entirely forgotten as they embark on their happy ending, with Yuzu showing concern for her grandmother’s health letting her know she is not alone.

I don’t get it. It baffles me to no end. The end left a lot to the imagination as a lot of things were left unresolved. It was short and sweet, and I did enjoy some of the over the top antics. It is perfect for that cliche fix that is craved every now and then. Yet, on the whole, it left much to be desired.

Would I recommend it? Uhmm, very selectively but on the whole, not really, since there are a lot of other great reverse harems to read. Have you ever read Ultimate Venus?
